Wow! I decided to change banks and opened an account with Starling. I completed the simple process of requesting a switch. The whole process took 5 days and all my stop orders and direct debits were transferred seamlessly.
The communication throughout was excellent.
The app is simple to use, with very useful information and features to help manage your account.

I am happy about my choice to set up an account with Starling Bank. The whole transfer process was very easy, they literally did everything for me. I never had any incoming payments missing. Also, I absolutely love the feature which is showing any outgoing money or income going/coming in the nearest future. Like a breath of fresh air banking with Starling. They tell you in time to help you avoid charges. A perfect account for travelling, no foreign exchange charges and a good exchange rate.

This is my new bank of choice now. I love everything about it. The app is easy to use, they answer the phones very quickly and are a pleasure to be with. All my deposits and withdrawals are done at my local post office around the corner from me. Cheques are deposited by taking a clear picture of it with the app. Try them, you won't be disappointed.

I wanted a no nonsense bank account that I could access wherever in the world I might be!
The bank offer fee free withdrawal from cash machine in the local currency. The machine operator may charge a handling fee, but you get the days bank rate for exchange purposes. You can also use the card as a Mastercard charge card. Any deposit or withdrawal is confirmed immediately in the app so you know what is happening in your account instantly! I can honestly say I think Starling Bank is brilliant!

I have trouble describing my old bank ShatWest without swearing. Starling has been great, current account switch was easy, opening the account was easy, they have great functions on the app. I’ve contacted the bank a couple of times by email and I’ve had a timely personal response, and they have always been very helpful. My old bank used to just pass me round from pillar to post. Also starling bank let me buy crypto which a lot of other U.K. banks are trying to stop you from doing.

There are some features that are a big improvement on my previous bank such as notifications when invoices are paid and cheque deposits. And the search facility has been very useful whilst learning to navigate the app.

What a breath of fresh air! I have banked with various banks I various countries, and always ended up having a negative experience after empty promises were made. I eventually got tired of needed a minimum balance in my business account in order to avoid ridiculous bank charges AND a monthly fee, so I switched to Starling. I'm so glad I did.
No charges, no minimum balance, no needless paperwork, no hassle. The app is intuitive and helpful, as well as easy to use and (it looks) secure.
If you have a small business and don't need to network with your bank manager, then I strongly suggest switching to Starling. You get a bank card for the business, and the app is great. You also don't need various savings account to set money aside, as you can do so in the app while all the money technically stays in one account.
I've been at Starling a few months now, and so far it's been a pleasant experience, which is more than I can say for most other banks.

Really impressed with Starling Bank and the service. Love how easy it is to set up and manage an account. Love being able to manage money easily using the app and online banking. Really like the features such as Saving Spaces, categorising spending, Kids/teens account. Makes the mainstream banks look like dinosaurs. I would like to see customisable spending categories. If they can be done for Business accounts, why not personal accounts?? Also think the cost for kids/teens accounts should be lower/free. Appreciate these users will not be putting lots of money away, but surely it's a good way to attract future customers?

The bank account I use every day is one I opened in the 1960s, though the name of the bank has changed a few times since then. Now, though, that cheques and cash are getting less and less and we're into contactless payments for everything, I worry about the times when the bank's IT system goes belly up and my life grinds to a halt.
For me, my Starling account just keeps a pot of money for me as a backup for the next time this happens. For that reason, apart from putting money into it for rainy days, my Starling account gets little day to day use.
That said, though, I'm impressed and very pleased with how it works for me.

Since changing over to Starling business from Barclays there are some features that I really like and one that frustrates me:
1) Easy to split expenses into categories, giving a good overview of the allocation of funds to each type of expense including percentages.
2) No charge for electronic bank transfers from customers. This was a key motivator to moving to Starling business as I receive a lot of small bank transfers from customers every day.
3) Card locking/unlocking at the flick of a switch on the app.
4) Pin reminder on the app in case the pin is forgotten
The only frustration I have had with this business account is that despite my business name being registered as the name of the account, customers must enter my full name instead of the business name when making online payment. This caused initial confusion and requires extra information to be given to hundreds of customers because of this rule.
Please change this Starling so that customers can pay using the business name instead of my personal name.
I have still given this service 5 stars despite this as everything else has been excellent and easy.

Starling Bank App User
So far, Starling Banking has been a great bank to use. The app seems to work seamlessly and is user friendly.
The user receives info on all transactions with a categorized breakdown, has a spare change saving function and allows easy payments to other family, friends and services. Apple Pay works really well with the iPhone. A card is issued however I rarely use it as it’s easier and safer to use my device.
Starlings security and safety features all seem to work well so I feel my money is in safe hands.

They really assist you when you need them. I got help from them when mistakenly I had turned on auto payment. The pending payment was refunded back to my account from the seller after talking to them!

The benefit, travel FX and less or fairer costs for spending abroad as well as interest on credit balance which is much more than what most conventional banking accounts offer.

Best thing I did when I chose Starling Bank when I had to switch from Tesco Current Account. The Euro account used in conjunction with the sterling account is especially useful when travelling abroad as it gives an excellent exchange rate and can setup Euro direct debits.

Top class bank and services - happy to see Starling appear more and more in the media, because it deserves it. Near total control over your card - you can lock it instantly, or prevent it from being used at an ATM, block gambling purchases, block online payments, increase your contactless limit to whatever you like; its phenomenal. You can also round up purchases and put the change to a safe place. I also get a text every time any activity happens with my account. If you're with one of the bigger banks and are thinking about switching - go for it! Starling won't disappoint you.

Have only recently moved my banking to Starling. So far I have been very happy. The only thing is that you can only withdrawer money from a Post Office ATM. Not a major problem though.
They did manage to recover a payment for me quite quickly when I was cheated by a retailer. And I do love that I can attach invoices, emails etc to a transaction, meaning that I have everything I need in 1 place.

Amazing customer service, superb app and speedy switch.
I moved my accounts over to Starling slowly, setting up my own account to start with so I could trial it. Had the account setup and a card within 48 hrs!!
Have used the card with no issue at all, I even forgot my login details and the security feature for getting back into your account is amazing. Although it says it can take up to an hour it is more often than not faster.
The roundup feature is brilliant as it helps to save that little bit of cash that you wouldn't notice on every little transaction.
I have now moved my Joint account over to Starling using the SWITCH service and what Starling refer to as a "Full" switch and I was told of 1 standing order they couldn't move, however they told me who it was so I was able to set it back up, everything else moved over with no problem.
I enjoy the fact that you can live chat with customer service from within the app so you don't even need to phone them if you want to check on something. Not having had any problems this seems like a great feature as I hate listening to annoying hold music.
I had my doubts however there is a reason they have been awarded Best Bank at the British Bank Awards in 2018, 2019, 2020 and now in 2021.

I was going to transfer my Current Account to Starling -- it is so easy to access my account on my phone! But twice now when trying to pay the rent and make a large payment for a new rented flat, I have been BLOCKED & had to wait 2 hours or more for the payment to go through (depending on how many people are before me in the queue). Payments require a human being to visually REVIEW them, and this holds everything up! I will NOT transfer my account now.

I love this bank account. It’s easy to see how and where your money is being spent. I feel safe in the knowledge that should my account ever be comprised I would know via a notification that money had gone from my account. I like being able to block my card should I ever lose it. I have just signed up for the kite card for my 12 year old and can see what he’s spending and when, i can also lock his card should the need arise. Don’t really like the £2 a month fee for the kite card but on balance feel it’s worth the money. Haven’t had to use customer service as I’ve had no problems as yet.

It is early days for us with our new business account ,but so far the service has been excellent and is mddtig iur expectations.As an SME the one problem we have is the failure to allow our professiknal accountants direct access to our account so that it can be integrated with the HMRC approved SAGE accounting package. This has caused some inefficency in our operation. Hopefully this will be overcome shortly.

I made two Starling bank accounts at start. One for British Pounds and other for mine euro savings. Then I was victim of scam on my old bank. I did ask for full switch in Starling. Whole process was smooth without any hassle. Again only one problem was on old bank. I did ask for assistance on my Starling app and they did really extra mile for me. Its so easy to use, they helped with application which only took a few days and the self identification process was easy - we had one glitch - but we emailed helpdesk and they helped us (!), then the App works seamlessly on 2 phones and also the PCS. As a senior person I still like to keep my monthly statements on paper & now I’ve conquered that I am perfectly happy with the account.
I particularly liked photographing a cheque & it was magically delivered into my account.
Another big plus is their connection with The Post Office, this wasn’t an option with my last bank.

I joined Starling earlier this year because my fiancé and I wanted to set up a joint account to manage our finances. We weren't sure whether to go with Starling or Monzo, but we sided with Starling because it has a better web-based offering, plus it has been rated the UK's best bank for the past few years. Creating the joint account was quick and easy and using the app has also been very easy to this point. We received our physical cards within a day or two of signing up, and we could use Apple Pay immediately.

1. The online version is not as good as the app, and business users do not want to do everything on the app - so please improve the online experience.

This bank is Great But one feature they don't have which bothers me is you/I cannot add funds directly from my main bank (HSBC) I need to withdraw cash from ATM then go to post office ask them to add otherwise it's salary directly into starling which I don't want to do Please add that feature direct bank to bank transfer on the App.

I find it really helpful to be able to put money into different 'pockets' and leave it there until needed. I like having the control at my fingertips. The Starling banking structure is really good. After a bit of a scary start, when I thought that I was losing control if my finances, - which I wasn't, - I am now very happy with how this bank operates.

I’m short, I believe that this bank is the best challenger bank in the UK at this current time. I think it is because of its amazing modern app, saving time on finances each month, helping manage your money better, offering what other high street banks cannot.
For an in-depth review, the app itself is really easy to use. I have heard that it isn’t that intuitive, however, I believe differently, download the app, follow the instructions, account set up is very fast and then simply explore. It takes 10 minutes to do. The only improvements I can think of, repeated places to find things. For example, I can find my banking details in at least 4 places. I also find, I’ve just seen something, and later that day I will try to find it again, and I seem to get lost again.
The payments system is great, instant transactions make it really good. You can see your transactions, even if they’re pending. Unlike most high street banks. Managing finances has never been easier.
The total amount spent in a day and in a month is really useful, instead of counting every transaction, I can see exactly what I’ve spent without having to do anything.
The security of the app is great. I personally like how the app locks itself after a couple minutes of not being used whilst you’re still on it. Another, is when you swap apps, sometimes it will lock you out, just in case someone takes your phone when they shouldn’t or some other reason.
I personally don’t have children, but they have a teen account which is great, I was considering using Starling Bank when I was 17, but never got around to it. They also support a children’s card now. Which is great, I am going to make one for my nephews and nieces just so they can experience how money works and teach them money management on days out. It will help me track it to make sure they’re not over spending and I can control their card at anytime.
Speaking of controlling cards, having the ability to freeze your card instantly is so helpful, it’s so fast to do too. Where for my HSBC account, it takes maybe a couple minutes to log into the app, then navigate to the card, then freeze it. There is another feature, if your card gets blocked due to fraud or other reasons, if you know it was you, you can quickly unblock the card by the press of a button. Unlike having to call your high street banks, answering excessive security questions, and then finally, getting it unblocked.
I don’t need to type any more, these are just some of my favourite features and I highly recommend this bank to anyone looking for an alternative to high street banks. Thank you for reading this! I hope you choose Starling Bank.

Love how you can create a spending a plan with Starling. It has helped me a lot with my finances. Really making believe I was "just with the wrong bank" before. A few times my account balance has been wrong with £75 extra money in my home space that was then removed and a couple of days later and it being overdrawn in my home space with no money being said to be taken out. Not much but a few pounds that would add up to a lot over time. The feel good factor of the spaces and the sense of having my money under control means I am comfortable looking at it and checking it when these glitches occur. I have only been with them a month so am monitoring it and will move if the glitches continue. I hope they don't!

Had account for about 6 months now and it’s fantastic. I first thought that the alerts you get for every transaction was starting to get annoying but we lost a card without knowing and someone started to spend on it. Got an alert and knew it wasn’t us, opened app and locked cards straightaway and got an alert a few minutes later that another transaction had been declined. Messaged Starling and they great. It was passed to there fraud team and a new card sent out straight away and our case resolved within a few days.

Tell you a real experience: if you got a real question or issue you will NOT any any real service. You would not be able to call through, and you will not be chat with a helpful person. For past few days I opened an US dollar businesses account but my client cannot pay me with ICH routing - they just need to know the Swift/BIC code, and I tried many approaches over many days just can’t get through to a useful person to get it. A”Daniel” in the chat told me twice Starling Bank USD account doesn’t have IBAN or Swift number. How untrue could it be.
Until today finally I figured it out myself by trying a test payment to this account, and found it’s a bank registered in Jamaica, having a New York Address shown in its Account Details. Starling even charges 5 pounds a month for this.
That’s going to be what you get from this sort of App Banking. Be prepared mentally and know what you are expecting on wo you got an issue.

Just recently moved to Starling. Primary reason was for instant notifications of activity on your account, and "heads up" notifications day before anything due to leave account. All spending can be allocated to a category of your choice, enabling monthly review of where money goes. Plenty other cool features also.

This new bank is brilliant, having banked for years with the tired old high street clearing banks, with their patronising attitudes, and each one with their word perfect terms and conditions, they might as well all trade under the same name, however Starling is different, individual, and now probably the best bank in the UK.

It was very easy to open a sole trader bank account (you need to open a personal account first). The ID checks and verification was not difficult. I love the spaces feature where you can save money in different "folders". This will be very helpful when I have to reserve earnings to pay the taxman instead of being shocked by the tax bill at the end of the year. Overall I am very pleased. The debit cards that came in the post were very stylish, and yes that matters, too , because it indicates that the company is very forward looking and do their market research well which I take to mean they listen. Having said that, as I'm a new customer I haven't had the experience yet of needing to talk to their customer support. But honestly I was on the phone for hours for my current high street bank, so at worst it will be the same at this point.

I changed from Santander because during lockdown they told me I couldn't have a contactless card unless I closed my basic account and reapplied for a 123 account, which could take over a week. Within hours of applying to Starling I was accepted and had Google pay working with a virtual card on my phone and within 48 hours I had a new contactless card.
Their service had been commendable and whenever I have needed anything I've contacted them in the chat service and had my issue resolved within a couple of days.
They're the best bank I've ever dealt with. Also the function they have in their app to round up everything you spend to a separate space is fantastic at Christmastime!

Having been with RBS (OneAccount) for many years, decided to move across to a more modern online bank. Love the interface, ease of use, immediate updates on spending, and notice of upcoming payments. Really good compared to the slow and cumbersome OneAccount. All available through mobile phone. Excellent. A few of areas for improvement 1) Would be good to be able to define your own payment categories (so you can see what you spend your money on), rather than these being pre-defined. 2) Joint Account should have same functionality as personal account e.g. bill splitting in a restaurant. 3) Payments should not be refused if there is enough money in 'Spaces' to cover payment. A/C should just be shown as overdrawn.

Having being with RBS since 2004 I recently took the bank swap to the co-operative Bank, what a mistake. Found out afterwards they the co-op don't have business account support by app, and it can't be integrated into accounting software.
After a little research opted for starling bank, applied on Sunday morning, by the evening I'd got a personal account, business account up and running, also integrated into Freeagent seamlessly. With the bonus that it's immediate updates so I don't need to wait for bank feeds overnight.
I get notifications immediately if any transaction in or out.
By the Wednesday I'd received my bank card, which was impressive as it was also a bank holiday on the Monday

I think this is a great banking service and seems to be technologically much more advanced than the traditional big names in banking in terms of transaction simplicity, message updates, aap features, options and user interface. However, i have a regular transaction issue and the customer service has no idea of what to do. Their backhand team has taken over a week now and yet no update. When I read some reviews from some other customers as well, i am seeing random but regular issues like account access, money transfer issues, etc. So while this seems to be a very good app, i am no longer inclined to consider it in the same league as a traditional bank in terms of service and trusting with my money.
Update: I had followed up with team starling for 4-5 times now in about 7-8 days. After continuous pestering, the issue was solved in one of the chat sessions i was having with the customer care. I believe the problem was with a security alert or a small configuration change that had to be done by the backend technical person, but it just took them a long time to have someone look at it in the first place and hence the delay.
Update: been a user for just under 3 years now. Overall happy with the simplicity with service. Upgrading review from 3 to 4 stars.

Very simple app, easy to use banking, the different spaces for money are a great idea but the best is the automatic round up & save is great, when you spend Starling automatically saves the difference into a spare space, contributing to saving for a rainy day

I have just opened a personal and business account with Starling Bank. I am slightly concerned reading reviews that a lot of accounts are frozen and funds are withheld. The set up was very easy and I didn’t have any issues. I am hoping that when the cards arrive that I will be able to activate them easily and transfer some money into the accounts without hassle.
I am hoping my husband and I can transfer our accounts after never ending problems with high street banks.

I have left my previous bank (First Direct) after 30 years and have been tremendously impressed - almost excited - by Starling Bank.
The app on which you control your banking is fantastic. It’s intuitive, 100% user friendly and you are utterly in control. I love the real time notifications that come through for every transaction made.
My only criticism is that Starling don’t issue cheques. I still use cheques about 6 times a year and I do hope they will address this gap.

How much information does this bank require. I've set up a limited company but not started trading yet. It's a new start up, no customers as yet so I can't supply invoices or signed contracts. Business plan is basic. I've waited over a week and no account set up yet. I will probably try Tide online banking as their set up seems a little easier. I don't want to borrow money, I just want to start trading. Not happy

First of all, the process for opening a business account was quite long, but was successful. They have asked for a lot of proofs about my business, but I think they have the right to do it, as long as you don't have nothing to hide!

I have to say Starling make the whole experience different, from how you apply for an account, receive your different looking bank card to how you handle money. I’ve read some of the reviews about frozen accounts, but from what I can see it looks to be genuine fraud prevention which has to be a good thing. I’ve only had the account for a short while, originally to make use of the free usage abroad. Had to use customer services yesterday for the first time and was happy with the outcome. Time will tell if the issues with frozen accounts turn out to be genuine but my experience so far is excellent.

Banking with Starling is so convenient. Everything is just straight forward. I can see my spending instantly, I can increase/decrease my overdraft whenever I like. I can lock my card if I misplace it. I can deposit cash at any Royal Mail Post Office. The app is super easy to us, and customer support is quick, friendly and efficient. There are so many great things about banking with Starling Bank, when compared to my traditional “bricks and mortar” Building Society, Starling wins hands down. I haven’t fully switched and make Starling my main Bank (but I use them the most) because I believe that it isn’t frugal to keep all my money in one bank.

Love my Starling accounts! App so easy to navigate, real-time transaction notifications, fast and easy to transfer between my account, my husbands account and our joint account. Fast payments between other banks too so great when I want my son to withdraw cash for me on his way home - just transfer to his account and text him to tell him to stop off at a cashpoint (saves me the trouble of having to go out!). I love the design of the app, the great customer service and the physical card design. Using the card abroad too is great. I’ve had no problems at all. The deposit service at any Post Office branch has also been super.
If you’re looking for a modern bank then Starling is for you.
I just hope that as it gets better and the word spreads they don’t change too much or lose their excellent customer service. I have faith though!

AMAZING bank, been with them since August 2018 and never looked back. I love the instant transaction notifications on my phone and the warnings that money is coming out the next day. My girlfriend is also using Starling bank and she said she was warned on the morning that there was not enough money to pay a bill, she transferred the money needed and the bill was taken out immediately.
Not had any problems with them so not tried customer services. The sign up was so easy, I have an account, so does the missus and we also have a joint account. We don't get charged fees on transactions abroad either. All round fantastic bank, 5/5 stars from me!

After opening my personal account with Starling when they were a new and up and coming online bank, I immediately knew they were going places. Their sign up process is quick and easy and I was up and running in no time. A little while down the line, I realised there was no need to stay with my high street bank so I completed the switching service. Starling made this incredibly simple and easy. Their app is user friendly and easy to navigate. They’ve really thought about what banking is and having pending transactions to see means I’m never late for a payment. I would recommend them to anyone.

After N26 left the UK I scrambled to find a replacement bank. Thinking I wouldn't find anything comparable I first tried NatWest (disaster I'm afraid). After that failed attempt I am pleased to report that Starling is everything I hoped for.

Absolutely fantastic. I switched over to starling last year, and since then, my wife has joined and we also have a joint account with then.
Not once have we had any issues, and the few questions we've had, we're all answered promptly by customer services. Worth noting as well, is we have always got through to someone in a matter of minutes. Never have we been on long holds to get through.
Never again will we consider traditional high Street banks, they simply can't touch the standard set by Starling!

Since opening a starling account I have shut my other bank account down. I use it on a daily basis and it helps me keep an eye on my finances at a click of a button, the app is great and I have never had any issues with it. I have only queried something once via the chat option and everything was cleared up in 5 minutes so I had peace of mind.
