Lovely, relaxed and friendly salon. Jack spent time to assess how my hair fell naturally and chat about what I wanted to achieve. He then gave me the best cut I have ever had, taking a lot of time and care. My hair falls back into shape perfectly after washing - no blow drying or product needed. Exactly what I wanted. Thank you. And the coffee was great too!

This place really is unique. Very calm and chic interior, with dim lighting, cool music, plants, stylish Japanese cups for your tea. But more than that, they really take their time - to get to know you and what you want from the experience. I started with a bonding/conditioning treatment with Charles (who is absolutely lovely) and, rather than sitting in the salon while it developed, I went into the tranquil back garden and sat in the sun and read my book. I then had a haircut with Jack. I was slightly nervous as my hair is thick, long and layered, and can be hard to cut. But he considered it from every angle and approached it almost like an artist. He cut it wet first and then a second time dry - sometimes with me standing up, sometimes sitting down - so he could get every detail right. I ended up with a fabulous wavy do, with lots of body and volume, which is what I'd asked for. I did doubt whether it would look quite as good when I tried to do it myself but I've washed and dried it today for the first time and honestly, whilst I usually spend nearly an hour blow drying it, I just rough dried it with some product for body, and it fell just right. So pleased. I'll definitely be back. Thank you all!

Lovely friendly salon. This is a little oasis of tranquility & I would highly recommend it for an all round great experience. Seiko has literally transformed my colour today - she is excellent and really knows what she is doing. I’m extremely happy with the results & have had lots of compliments already! I now have a plan for moving forward to manage my increasing greys and also look after my hair.

I’d been going to the same hairdressers for over 15 years after numerous hair cut disasters, but since moving to Brighton I decided to finally bite the bullet and try elsewhere. Seiko exceeded all expectations. She was attentive and understood the needs of my hair fully. Jack has been cutting my hair for over 10 years in many different salons, so lovely to see him settled in his own place. I’ve been stopped on the street asked who cuts my hair after a visit to Jack. He is brilliant. A lovely salon with a garden, loads of green plants. Can’t recommend Japonica enough.

But Jack and Kitty really made me not regret getting my hair cut short this time! They gave me a new hairstyle that I'm really happy with, and the whole experience at Japonica is just so pleasant. I had a wonderful experience a Japonica. I hadn't had my hair cut professionally for more than 10 years and I was slightly apprehensive as my hair is very long and I didn't want too much of the length removed. I really appreciated how understanding and meticulous Jack was with my hair and I'm so pleased with the result. I also had the Bond Rebuilding and Nourish Treatment and it made my hair feel fantastic and healthy - it smelled wonderful too! The team are all lovely, welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere is so relaxing. I would recommend to anyone and I'll definitely be coming back in the future.

I found Japonica while looking for an organic salon in Brighton, after a terrible experience at a different salon. My hair had been bleached and damaged and I was absolutely heartbroken. The team at Japonica were so kind - they squeezed me in as soon as they could for a consultation and reassured me that they could help fix the condition of my hair. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the atmosphere - great music, no harsh lighting, incense - after my terrible experience at a previous salon this really helped to set me at ease. I saw Charles for my colour and all I can say is that he saved my hair. When I arrived it was dry, broken, unmanageable and had been bleached within an inch of its life from its normally natural glossy brown colour. I felt confident from the moment we started talking that Charles knew exactly what he was doing. He talked me through the colour options and took all of my worries into account, and also suggested different options for how we could go about fixing the damage. He was so kind and reassuring and we had a lovely time chatting while he worked. When I left I walked out with shiny, chocolate brown hair in a condition I didn’t think was possible! Im so glad I found Japonica and can’t rate them highly enough.
