An excellent place to hire a good bike and trailer for to cycle around the island. A friendly and dedicated couple run this iconic Millport bike hire and kids toy store and it's a joy to see it in such great hands. The male owner has an engineering Background and has all the bikes well maintained and had the bikes and the trailer for my kids all safely set up while providing excellent advice in handling the bike and avoiding and mishaps. The toy store was also a brilliantly stocked store. Absolutely amazing place and I hope this store goes from strength to strength for many years to come.

Was a busy wee day when I got to millport today for hiring bikes but loved the way these guys got it all sorted for everyone. My bike was great and staff were lovely. Definitely friendly and ask you may get.x Thank you.

Absolute A+ service here. I brought my bike along to be repaired on a very busy, sunny day. The place was hoaching with people renting and returning bikes and it looked like the lads ran a tight ship and were very organised getting people catered for and on their way. After waiting to be seen there was a lull in customers to they fixed my bike there and then, it really only took them minutes to do. What I would have been rinsed for £-wise and waited days for elsewhere was taken care of in minutes for £15. I'll never take my bike anywhere else now!

Makes is a Millport institution, I hired my first bikes there over 40 years ago.. Back after a long break we hired two electric and two kids bikes and went around the island. My only constructive criticisms would be ; It's a little confusing at the door, little barriers were outside with some people queuing there, some wandering inside, staff in and out, where do we go. and it felt a little expensive at £60+ to go around the island, leisurely pace but we didn't even stop at Fintry since it was shut! Finally one of the kids bikes was really end of life, I've thrown away better, it got us around the island but it's ready for the bin.

Still the best place to hire a bike in Millport. The change of ownership a few years back has been a welcome improvement to this popular island store and the must-do cycle round the island experience. The new owners clearly know and are passionate about bicycles. There’s evidently been an investment in some new stock with retirement of the more worn out bikes that used to mean a bit of pot luck as to whether the gears worked or not! The new electric bikes are brilliant and make light work of the few uphill sections like that just before arriving (anti-clockwise) at Fintry Bay. Cheating, I know! Actually, the circular road is not as level as it seems from the car ride between the ferry and Millport town. Anyway, congratulations to Mapes and its owners for a great job well done. Visiting Millport wouldn’t be the same without Mapes. P.s. other bike hires are available- but why settle for second-best.

Many years since I have cycled and as an OAP I wondered if I was fit enough , the staff in the shop could not have been more helpful finding a suitable bike , I was tempted to ask for an electric bike but felt a real sense of achievement when I completed the road round the island , a great day out

I hired 5 bikes from here today for myself, my wife and our 3 children. The staff are so friendly and helpful. Our daughter absolutely loved their amazing dog Pablo. The bikes were great quality, so much better than we were expecting and at great prices. If you're planning a cycle around the island then look no further than here, 5 stars.

Loved biking around the island - Bike was in good condition and (after my request) I got a lovely padded seat with springs! No extra charge but if you want a helmet just remember ask for one :)

First time visiting Millport in over 15 years and the reception from the whole team was out of this world. They are the friendliest people out there and being from Scotland myself, I know how friendly we can be. The whole team ensured everyone was fitted with the correct bikes and professionally especially given the amount of customers they had to get through due to the weather. Highly recommended to hire your bikes from this family shop and will definitely hire from again when I visit Millport again.

I dont often write reviews but after my experience at Mapes I felt I had to. Scott the owner was so friendly and helpful to us going out his way on a really busy Saturday to make sure we could have a family cycle round Millport. He promised to call us when the four wheel drive bike was back in which he did. All staff were so courteous and well mannered even though they were really busy. Went today with my family, wasn't sure on what to hire due to having a 3 year old, with some talking to staff inside we decided on a mini quad for us, the employee brought it out front for us, explained carefully on how to work it. My daughter loved being on front, but not long after we started the wind and rain came on, and she wasn't enjoying it, and covering her face, we took at back after half an hour roughly, the what I think is manager, told us, to leave payment as my daughter didn't enjoy it as much. It was such a great gesture, and was much appreciated, the bike shop also had a toy shop attached run by same folk, went into to have a look and it was great priced, I've work in retail for 10 years, and the prices were same you would get in a chained stored. In saying all this, would definitely recommend millport for a day trip and when visiting, Definitely hire from here for future visits

Got recommended this place by a sibling. Staff were very friendly and quick. They checked seat heights and made sure we were happy with our bikes. We also collected helmets which they provide to us during our bike rent, free of charge. However, I'm only giving 4 stars as most of our group's tyres weren't fully pumped up which made it more difficult than it should to cycle. Overall was good and I am looking to come back.

Went to Millport on a Sunny Saturday afternoon - despite being exceedingly busy, great welcome and promptly served. Didn’t book in advance (thought oops when I arrived) asked for the Grand Tourer (4seat) As we were family of 2 adults and 2 preschoolers. The bike was already out for hire but was advised they would take my number as was due back soon and call when ready. Had a stroll on the beach and then received the call - collected and given a demo for safety and off we went. Great few hours taking in the sights and stopped off for lunch. Lots of people asking where we got it as other bike hire place don’t have this one. Fantastic day out on the island and Mapes were 5 stars ⭐️ thank you we will be back soon!

Fantastic day out in Milport. First time hiring electric bikes from Mapes of Milport. We cycled around the full island and up to the top of the summit without breaking a sweat . They are amazing . Great service we highly recommend them .

Had a great family day out in Millport today! Hired bikes from Mapes of Millport. So easy to find as right on the front where the bus drops you off. We hired two adult bikes, one with a kiddie cab for our four year old, who although likes cycling does get tired quickly so this was a great way for us all to get round the island. Although Mapes was busy we were served really quickly. Our bikes were great, well looked after and the kiddie cab lovely and clean. It just reminded me how much I actually enjoy cycling. Our four year old loved her kiddie cab and was like the Queen of Sheba being transported round the Island. Very reasonably priced and quick, friendly service. We will definitely be back and will go to Mapes!

Brilliant 5 star service. Needed some bats and balls for the table tennis at work. Sent a message asking prices and received a message by return. Ordered them, went to collect today and they were behind the counter ready for me. Fantastic service even when the shop was full of customers. Well worth a visit and prices to beat majority of high street.
