Reviews of Ginger Pig
B. N.
Took part in the butchery class Saturday night and had a brilliant time.
The butchers were amazing. Funny, charismatic, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. We all started pretty shy but by the end of the night(and a glass of wine down) I felt relaxed and ready to give it a go at home.
The shop itself is easy to find, beautiful to look at and be in, and a treasure trove of top quality meats, condiments and knives.
Fully recommend this shop and the butchery course, I went by myself but I think it would be amazing with your partner as well.
N. G.
Attended the Beef butchery class last night. Fantastic hosts, extremely knowledgeable, delicious food. An outstanding evening, I would highly recommend to anyone.
J. F.
OMG - the pork belly I just had from the lunch counter puts the restaurants I have eaten at lately to shame. Amazing - it was so good!! Tasty, juicy meat full of flavour, and crunchy crackling too. All I need now is apple pie and custard for dessert but alas it is a butchers and not a restaurant. (Maybe it should be) Whatever magic place they are getting their meat from, I know I will want to get it from here in the future.
B. L.
Some of the most lovely butchers in London. Alongside quality meats, fair prices. Definately worth every visit.
M. C.
Visited in order to do an evening butchery course; I couldn’t recommend it more highly.
The course was well delivered, and very fun. I learned a lot and had a very enjoyable evening.
As you would expect, the meat was absolutely superb, and they were very generous with portions and indeed with wine...
The butcher shop itself is a great place to get high quality aged beef at a reasonable price - totally trackable from farm to plate!
W. L.
We bought merguez, pot pies and cornish pasties...so delicious. They sell marvelous aged beef!
T. R.
Probably the best hidden gem to pick up lunch in London. I’ve tried their quiche, sausage and lamb rolls, as well as their lunch box by weight. Everything is absolutely amazing and delicious, well worth the price. I gladly make a 30min walk here several times a week just to get this delicious and fresh meal. Btw their lunch box is very affordable as well. I couldn’t give enough compliments for this place. Prepare for a small queue on weekends.
E. N.
As good as a butcher and a deli can get!
sausage rolls are very tasty like almost all the cooked stuff. only mildly negative note are the scotch eggs which sadly have a firm hard boiled yolk.
But then the sausages properly minced and seasoned, and the ribeyes, beautifully marbled and the T bones.
Top quality butcher and service

Went for a weekly shop at Ginger Pig for a change from my favourite local butchers. While they have some nice meats, they don't display all their prices (some items had prices, some didn't) which is a major turnoff for me and the prices were slightly higher than my local butcher (for a similar quality).

Short Story. Probably the best piece of meat in my 59 years of life. Long story. Found myself in Marylebone at lunch time so popped in for a sausage roll. Forget your 5 a day, one is lunch in itself or cut it in to two with a bit of salad, big enough at £4. However, on the way out I spotted these Veal loin chops. Temptation. Not cheap but looks great. Not cheap and I have to feel slightly guilty as I know that a person on a budget can live for a week for the price of this chop. However, every now and again we deserve a treat. The next bit is all me. Brought to room tempature for an hour or so, seasoned, seared in a hot pan for 2-3 minutes on each side, popped in to a pre warmed hot oven of 200 degrees for 10 minutes, out and rested for 5 minutes. It just looked fantastic and didn't disappoint. It was so tender and actually crumbled under the knife. Yes crumbled but firm and so moist. The ageing was perfect. Enough to add flavour but not overpower the meat itself. Every bite was a jtreat. Only a quality butcher could provide a piece of meat to this quality. Worth the trip, even if you aren't in the area :)
j. e.
Best butcher in the area. Also great place to buy takeaway food or quick lunch
E.
Excellent butcher. Unfaultable. Friendly, knowledgeable butchers who always offer my dog some bones to take with him.
I don’t live close but if I ever have guests, and I want us to eat well, I make the trip.

Oh my god. What a place. Having German blood in me and being a natural carnivore this is heaven and home in one. Fantastic meats mixed with wonderful veggies and really good potatoes. The pies are brilliant, Sausage rolls etc. The comfort and joy connected with this food is just amazing. Top quality and portions. Where do you get that. If only they had a couple of tables outside, I would go even more often. I just don't like taking food back to the office so much. Nearby Paddington Street Gardens is a good option.
D. L.
Possibly the best butcher in London. Meat from traditional breeds farmed using the best methods. You can taste the difference.
T. C.
The sausage rolls are the gold standard that all rolls should be judged now until the end of time. Their rolls come in pork, beef and lamb and I can assure I dream of them all, even now sitting in my office. I heard the pulled pork and Cornish are excellent, and someday I will try it. But I have yet to get over their sausage rolls.
M. D.
Hands down best butcher in the neighbourhood and possibly best in all of London. The quality of all meats and poultry are off the charts and the staff are all incredibly knowledgeable. The price is on the higher side but worth every pence. Highly recommend the lamb chops they serve if you like lamb.
N. S.
Best butcher in town! Always fresh meet and poultry. One can also grab a great lunch box here, which consists normally of 4-5 different types of roast meet, chicken, roast vegetables and salad. Very friendly and professional. Highly recommended!
C. F.
Went on the pork course experience. Very friendly. Great detail. Lots of fun and very educational. The dinner was amazing and took home a massive joint.
P.s. sausage rolls are incredible. Never had anything like it.
R. I.
Very good quality meat, but it is on the pricey side. The lunch counter is amazing great food and generous portions, it is very popular with the local office workers so be prepared to queue! The sausage rolls are out of this world!
O. O.
Ginger Pig is the only proper and decent slaughterers in London. And all the meats that they sell are surely in good quality and fresh. The sausages that they sell are very tender and good to taste. And also he bacon, they used young pork in making this and it didn’t shrink when you cook, which only implicates he the meat has a good value. The staffs are very knowledgeable of all the products that they sell.
G. Y.
A great place to stop for lunch, they do roast boxes most days for around £7 and that will be enough food to last for 2 meals. They have a range of meats that you'll be able to choose from, and you aren't limited to one. Add to that carrots, potatoes and salad and you're away.
Hot pies and sausage rolls are available as well as some other cold pre-prepared food which is all decent enough.
They have a butcher counter as well but it is EXPENSIVE, and not just a little expensive... Make no mistake, their meat is very good quality but unless you have the taste buds of a god, it's not necessary to buy from here, you can get as good food elsewhere for a much better price. Of course you are in Marylebone and pay a premium for it, but it's just a little over the top...
G. H.
Did a butchery class at the Ginger Pig in Marylebone (Moxon Street) - it was a gift from a family member. It was really good. Really educational, fun, engaging and of course delicious when you get to eat it all at the end with an accompanying glass of wine. Also got a beef rib to take home! Would highly recommend to anyone... (apart from vegetarians!)
S. D.
The Ginger Pig is probably the best butchers I've been to in London, everything I've ever bought from there has been really tasty. The beef is well hung and the chickens have lead a happy life. My one gripe is the price, the last time I went, the blackboard outside read "chickens £8.50" little did I know that it was £8.50 per kg. It was probably the best chicken I've had but the fact it cost me over £20 made me feel a little sick.
Expensive chicken aside, The Ginger Pig is brilliant, great meat, great sausages and some great pickles.
M. M.
come hungry. The £6 lunch box is frankly a thing to behold, they keep on piling in meat, 'tatties' and more. really it can feed two people. Alongside the selection of scotch eggs, sausage rolls and epic pies, whats not to love.
over in the butchers side theres every cut of quality meat you could want, so if you're cooking at home they will get and prepare the meat you need, rather than the usual supermarket stuff. You'll notice the difference and its not expensive.
T. A.
Sausage roll is absolutely FAB! And the Lady working there is so friendly and caring! 10!
A. P.
Excellent meats, good pastries from the deli counter
v. d.
My husband absolutely loves the pies from this shop. They really do melt in your mouth. We had the giant saussage rolls last week which were so nice. They were huge and tasted delicious.
M. S.
I am privileged to have this as my local butcher. It's clearly one of the best butchers in the world, serving the likes of the Hawksmoor and other absolutely top-end meat restaurants in London.
The shop is small, but do not let that throw you. They have almost everything, and with a bit of notice they can get you more than anything.
The meat quality is top-notch. Before I had a pork chop, filet, sausage, or lamb chop from here, I didn't really know how they were supposed to taste when I cooked them at home. Turns out, I'm an awesome chef when the ingredients are this amazing.
Finally, they almost solely stock British rare breeds, and they rear the animals themselves (most of the time). You can read all about their practices in their cookbooks.
The only downside of this near perfection is the price. It's not exorbitant, but it's a bit more than, say, Waitrose. My suggestion: if you need to decrease your portion of meat (always healthy) to get this quality, that's a tradeoff well worth making!
S. R.
Excellent food... this is where Nigella Lawson goes for Sausage rolls, which I cannot recommend enough. The original is the place to start, but the other flavours are worth checking out as well.
Not exactly a sit and eat kind of place, but it's the best food on the go you can find.
J. P.
This is the place to buy meat in Borough Market, and in my opinion London. If you want to impress guests with a serious chunk of good quality animal, this is the place to come. The sausages and pies are excellent. If you need any help, the staff are very knowledgable and happy to assist.
F. C.
You can buy tasty sausages and fresh lamb meat from "Ginger Pig".
Don't hesitate, prepare your oven and cook the delicious meal.
I usually make nettle soup, too. And the dining experience is excellent.
S. S.
A great butchers! There is another one in Marylebone I believe and they offer butchery courses from about 150 pound. The sausage rolls make for an excellent snack to feast on while doing your shopping in the market.
P. G. F.
very helpful staff and best steaks. Price might be slightly higher thank in a supermarket, however it really worth it! ask them for bones and other leftovers to make stews and broths...best ones! staff in borough market and victoria park are really kind!
S. T.
We always get our Christmas meat from here. Good value for such high quality and great staff. The deli is heaven for my husband who cannot resist a sausage roll or pork pie...
K. T.
Sausage roll the size of your head!!! And only for £3.50 is a great deal. It is hot when you get it so let it cool a bit. You don't even need sauce, the flavour of the meat is perfect on its own!
M. R. T.
one of the few places selling perfect veal escalopes. on the pricier side but worth the money. knowledgeable staff who actuually look like butchers. good selection of grass fed beef, so if you are all about paleo, that's the place to go.
D. N.
When I lived in Marylebone, I spent a lot of weekends picking up food from the Ginger Pig. Their pies are amazing and the sausage rolls are so good that they gave me meat sweats. One is plenty, but best if between two.
N. A.
Adore this place! Knowledgable staff, wonderful quality meat, and - if you're so minded - I recommend their meat courses. Pricey, but it also includes a nice cut of meat that you get to take home (having prepared it yourself) as well as a delicious meal with with wine.
S. G.
Amazing selection of meat. Superb quality. Reasonable price when you consider how good the product is.
C. W.
Professional service. Pork pies, scotch eggs and sausage roll are very good. Usually a short queue at lunch compared to other hot food places. Highly recommended
J. C.
Butcher's store for buying a wide array of meat, prepared food, prepared meat pies, and various speciality food items. Their hot lunch box is more than I can usually eat by myself but the leftovers are delicious.
L. S.
Really good quality meat and not too expensive. Really friendly staff who are happy to help. Also serve lunch during the week for £6.50 you get a large serving of quality roast of a selection of meats with veg oil etc
O. A.
By far the best quality meat you are going to find in Borough. Every time I am in town I hit it up. They have a great cookbook too so pick it up!
C. L.
The sausage rolls are fantastic, a little large, but that's good too. Get your food before 11 unless you like cold food because it will all be gone
S. S.
And aside from the meat, Ginger Pig also offers some condiments, like salt, seasonings, and other to give some spice to the meat. The price is a bit higher, but really worth the price that you pay for the safety and freshly meat that you eat. Truly a great place that you must visit.
B. M.
I just love this place. Can’t stop myself from coming back. Lovely guys running the shop, really care about the food, and just delicious meat.
a. j.
Stunning sausage rolls and sausages. The scotch eggs are very nice also.
B. V.

e. r.
Not only serves some of the best sausage rolls I have ever tasted it also does a brilliant lunch box which is crammed full of meat and veg so is well worth the £6
R. A.
Since they closed the Waterloo location this is the most convienent and the best. I only buy my steak and prime meats from Ginger Pig. The best steak and bbq restaurants in london can’t be wrong.

I come here almost every weekend for our ingredients for dinner and we’re always impressed by the service and the quality and taste of the meat. Thanks guys!
S.
It's fresh meat, Really good. But I think the meat is less quality than before.
I baught a box of 4 eggs. One of them was broken and the egg dried inside...
J. H.
Really enjoyed our lunch here ( it’s by weight, reasonable price), and very yummy sausage roll!
H. B.
Not selling pork pies for at least a month at all locations - so check back with them end of Feb 2019. Wasted a journey there to find this out (my fault I should have phoned)
S. H. S.
Must-have sausage rolls! Very filling, juicy and meaty yum, all for four pounds.
T. N. V.

(Translated) I ate sausage and scotch! The sausage pie is very peppery, but it does not smell like meat and it is so delicious! It is enough to substitute one. And the clerk is very kind and kind. I do not think he'll be okay with Scotch!
