Reviews of The Quality Chop House
S. A.
This restaurant quickly became on my partner's favorite place to go for lunch. We go there whenever we have guests visiting us from oversea and we always have a great time. Starters, main courses and deserts are all delicious and it's a pleasure to try different things each time we go. Our most recent visit was a few weeks ago for lunch, and as always we enjoyed every second. The service is impeccable and the staff is very nice and friendly. I strongly recommend you try this restaurant.

We reserved the private dining room for a Sunday feast! Everything was perfect, starters, main, sides, and dessert… deliciousness from first to last bite! portions are very big, we brought home a lot of food. Service was also very good. Would recommend 100%!

Loved it. 12 years and still going I had wanted to visit this place for years and it didn’t disappoint. A 9pm booking, we arrived on time but had to wait as they were rammed. We were happy to wait and once sat in pew style benches, the waitress apologised. It took a while for our order to be taken but again, she was apologetic and offered us free cocktails which wasn’t expected but a nice touch of good service. The food was incredible with croquettes, beautiful bacon that melted in the mouth, perfectly cooked steak, pheasant and woodcock … paired with a delicious bottle of red. You can see why it’s lasted for so long.
If you like your meat in a classic setting - go!

An institution. Laser focused on quality and service. Had an outstanding birthday dinner here.
Bigac steak tartare, best fillet I've ever had and olive oil ice cream. We'll be back.
A. N.
Delicious and fresh food, eveything was well cooked. We had the mussels , pork chops with 15hr chips , and an amazing chocolate ganache with Clementine ice cream. What a winner combination!
C. O.
Apologies for the terrible photos as they're not represemta of the quality of food we had in the slightest!!
Hands down one of the best gastronomical experiences I've ever had in London.
The interior is dark and intimate, perfect for a cost dinner amongst friends and family. I went with my little sister to celebrate her university admission and between the two of us we had four snacks, a main and of course, a chop, which is a must have. And the standard confit potatoes, which were the best spuds of my life.
The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, so if you're looking for recommendations, they are quick to help. Highly recommend!

We had a fantastic meal the The Quality Chop House.
From the moment we were greeted by Hannah (sp) we requested to sit outside without a problem.
Hannah was clear in her recommendations and explained what were the popular dishes.
We started with the green fig, stracciatella, friggetella and honey salad. The dish was well balanced and provided a great start to the meal.
While we didn’t request for the starter dish to come before the snack, it seemed they knew that it made sense to start with the lighter dish of the two we ordered.
We followed this with the mangalitza and smoked eel black pudding with burnt apple purée. This was a strong flavour yet a dish with a variety textures. The small pieces of fat were amazingly tasty
For mains we had the mangalitza chops, succulent slices of fatty pig 🐖 cooked perfectly.
And the black face lamb which was succulent and had a depth of flavour.
We had a couple of glasses of wine too which went perfectly with the meal.
Highly recommend this place if you love meat, quality service and great wine.

Amazing ambiance and food. A great place for meat lovers with all dishes cooked to perfection.

One of the best steak I’ve had in my life! The meat just melted in my mouth! I would definitely recommend this place! I can’t wait to come back…

This is my favourite place for a Sunday roast, a must go! Delicious snacks, starters, mains and sides with a range of tasty dynamic wines in a fun bustling atmosphere. The staff are super friendly, welcoming and knowledgable making the whole experience a 10/10. The same can be said for any other day of the week too, the menu varies and it's always a wonderful treat.
J. L.
Can't believe it took me so long to try this place out! We went for lunch and had a few snack/starter plates. Amazing flavours. I'm still dreaming of the croquettes and confit potatoes. Staff are also really friendly, helpful, great service. Would recommend!

Great, except for the meat, which was pretty much the reason we chose the place. We celebrated our anniversary and a congratulations card from the entire staff waited for us on our table which was lovely. Cocktails and wine were excellent and the starters were wonderful. But when it came to the main event, 800 grams bone-in sirloin steak, the meat was rough and quite tasteless. That can of course happen, but we weren't asked once if everything was ok, even after leaving half of it on the plate. We didn't want to make a scene and stain an otherwise lovely night, so just left a bit disappointed and will not return. We paid over 200 pounds for the meal (2 people).

We had an amazing lunch at The Quality chop house. We wanted to order just the Quality Chop set lunch but we got clearly carried away 😄😄 we ordered three starters, the parmesan hash-cod's roe snack and the short rib croquettes were absolutely fantastic. The cut of pork chop was absolutely delicious and the cornish ray was very good, just a little bit too salty for my taste. Overall a 5 stars plus experience!!!!
A. K.
Have been many times, and never disappointed. Food is always interesting, varied, satisfying and seasonal.
One of the only places I make sure to leave room for dessert.
A. T.
The fried potatoes are the highlights. Hard and crispy shell. Must order! Mangalitza chop is very fat, didn’t expect that, but flavor is good. Asparagus starter is also good.
M. I.
Best steak I’ve had, I think ever, certainly in London.
Great atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful.
All beautifully presented.
Sides bang on.
The fois gras late was superb, as was the braised green side.
Steak was aged, cooked, cut, and seasoned perfectly.
Try the olive oil ice cream
D.
One of the best restaurants in London. Highest quality of food with an innovative menu based on the classics. A quality lunch set menu for £25 if you want to spoil yourself.
Lovely staff to boot.
V.
An excellent meal, topped off with with warm and attentive staff.
✅ Lamb ribs
✅ Smoked cod roe
✅ Bone-in ribeye
✅ Cofit potatoes
A definite go-to and go-back-for-more!
K. H.
Superb service & Huge portion, I almost didn’t manage to finish my plate and the last time I didn’t finish my plate was in 2008. Also, I love these potatoes, what are these? Why haven’t I eaten them before?
j. c.
We had the set lunch menu. Absolutely incredible meal, not a single fault. Drinks were also amazing and the service was top notch. Will be a go-to when visiting the city again.
D. R.
From the moment we walked into The Quality Chop House we were at ease with the friendly staff greeting us and being super attentive (not overbearing!) Our waiter had great knowledge of both food and drinks on the menu. Everything we ordered was incredible. The confit potatoes and olive oil ice-cream are both absolute must order! Thank you for such a wonderful experience, the staff were honestly amazing.
L. S. S.
Had a really nice meal here but I want to quickly start off with a couple of things that are not so great. Firstly, the seats at the restaurant are not the most comfortable. They are benches that have really straight back and narrow seats that you find at some pub/restaurants. It does add to the atmosphere and wasn't the end of the world for me. The second thing was that the time for our seating felt a bit short. We ordered our food shortly after arriving and had to pay our bill the moment we finished our dessert. Considering that we went with the xmas set menu this seemed rushed. If we had ordered off the a la carte menu we would have taken longer to order.
Now, with that settled the meal it self was really good. This was my first time here so the Xmas set menu was a really good choice. It had a good selection of some of the nicest things on the menu that gave a really good sense of the standard of the restaurant.
With all the earlier reviews it's fair to say that possibly the best thing about The Quality Chop Shop is the consistency. The food we got was what you can see from all the photos.
R. W.
Wonderful shop for high quality veg, meats, oils, cheeses, breads, nearly everything really. Best butcher in London. I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the staff during lockdown. Our at home meals have been elevated. In 2020 they expanded the produce selection 💯💯💯 highly recommend
W. M.
One of those restaurants in London you have to make the time to go to. I don't know how it's taken me so long. The food is suited to sharing if you're into that but would also be perfect to keep to yourself.
The snacks and starters could make up the meal by themselves, but it would be a shame not to go for a chop or steak as well. I think the wine selection is pretty great, but the inclusion of a few more natural wines would be welcome. A very minor complaint though and I'm sure it wouldn't bother most people.
B. S.
At the absolute top of its game - for me, probably the best & most consistent restaurant in London
C. L.
Delicious! A steak house is all about the quality of the steak and the indulgence and variety of the sides and small plates. Both were excellent and with so many things to try and lovely service it’s a great experience.
S. H.
I’d been meaning to visit QCH for a long time and finally got round to it a few weeks ago with the family. My only regret was not going sooner
This place really lived up to expectations. Top quality cooking with top of the range ingredients. Service was welcoming, friendly and faultless
I was so impressed that I returned the very next day for their Sunday Roast which was even more formidable. So many places promise a great roast dinner but very few deliver. This is one of the best I’ve had. I’ll be returning again this Sunday
Highly recommended
A. L.
Incredible meat which melts in your mouth! We received a voucher from friends and absolutely loved this place. Friendly and prompt service. Simple menu and all very tasty!
S. P.
Today we 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 got here and it was everything we dreamed it would be. Not just the food, which was absolutely stunning but we were so well looked after by Ettie who served us with a smile that a mask couldn’t hide.
The confit potatoes totally lived up to the hype as did the beef mince on dripping toast - just what the doctor ordered. Maybe.
Not forgetting the treacle tart and olive oil ice cream combo - a knockout.
Cocktails were fab, they had orange wine on the list and the shop next door was full to the brim with deliciousness. Love love love.
i. m.
Loved every minute. The staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. We all had the Sunday roast and it did not disappoint. It was my birthday and the staff had all signed a card for me, lovely touch. Happy I found this place and I look forward to coming back
S.
The most fantastic meal. The food was incredible and the staff so so knowledgable, yet not stuffy or overbearing. Absolutely perfect.
The olive oil ice cream is a must!
J. P.
I don’t even like Yorkshire pudding but theirs was so good we ate it all. The grouse was perfectly cooked and the complements were good too. The pork was quite rare but very tasty. And the chocolate ice cream with olive oil was to die for. Wines were good and very value for money too.
Service was excellent: accommodating, thoughtful and friendly.
Definitely worth it!
P. B.
My happy place. The food is always top drawer. Impressive wine list. Incredibly welcoming. If you have never been, you absolutely must.
P. S.
Pre theatre meal. Staff went out of their way to make sure we were well fed and out in time. Food excellent - service the best.
J. J.
Yesterday my daughter brought me here for the first time. It was the best roast dinner I’ve had out ever. The service of Rahul was impeccable and his knowledge of food and wine was excellent. Plus incredibly caring. Thank you
R. H.
Great private room for hire, excellent service and the food is exceptional. Simple well cooked high quality meat with delicious sides.
Y. R.
This restaurant has authentic but somewhat quirky and cool atmosphere. I loved their interesting dinner menu so much that I came back for Sunday Roast within a month which was even better. See photos which speak for themselves. Friendly and knowledgeable service, good wine list and very high quality food. What else do you need?
A. G.
The food is excellent, with many references to St John restaurant , you should definitely try their game dishes (for me they are the best in London when it comes to game).
I would give 5 star if they had a little bit more reasonable pricing as you can end up paying more than £50 per person for a decent meal and 2-3 glasses of wine.
H. S.
Ate in the cozy front section where there are long wooden benches. Excellent value lunch menu with a range of British classics such as mince on toast, pork chops and trifle. Not a huge choice, but everything sounded delicious, and everything we ate was so tasty. The confit potatoes are as good as everyone says. Great service. Highly recommended.
A. R.
The food is delicious. The steak is the best. Great atmosphere. One of the best restaurants in London.
A. R.
One of the best places to get your meat. The Quality Chop House is quite rightly named, boasting a modernised 19th century butchery with an intimate dining setting.
Started with lamb croquettes served on a bed of mint mayonnaise. They were crunchy and savory, with the flavor of the lamb nicely complemented by the sauce.
This was followed by a perfectly cooked enormous pork chop topped with a sweet-savory sauce. Perfectly seared on the outside with the fat cap having a bit of crunch, and the meaty flavor coming in with a hearty finish. Delicious!
The pork chop was nicely paired with "pink fir" potatoes, which were these batons that were thinly sliced partway, and roasted until they had a delicious crunch yet creamy interior.
Finished the meal with their Madagascan chocolate ice cream, made even more rich by a vanilla custard and olive oil. Best way to finish a delicious meal!
Will definitely return!

Top class British – fabulous Sunday roast, great wine selection by glass or bottle (mostly French, some Grand Cru by the glass), nice tradition decor in a 150-year old shop, with upscale casual atmosphere. A gem!
B. P.
I have visited QCH a couple of times and I've never been disappointed. The potatoes are a must if you are going to order meat. Don't skip on the lamb and pork chops.
C. K.
Really high quality British cuisine. Its simple food done well, service is excellent and the atmosphere is unique. Big points for being extremely seasonal and changing the menu daily.
j. e.
Amazing shop and even better service. What a great team!!!
R. B.
Remarkably good plates... small, but satisfactory. We appreciated being allowed a table during a busy time of evening.
Fantastic food, though the service felt a little clunky and rushed. Probably would've been better to dedicate a single server to our table instead of feeling pressurised into hastened second drinks by two separate waiters. Had to give up the table soon after that.
Good food experience, although unnecessarily brief.
R.
Lovely evening celebrating my birthday in the private dining room. The food was great, elevated home cooking done really well. We were really looked after by our lovely hostess. A fantastic evening but I feel it’s slightly too expensive for the set menu and the food we ate.
R. P.
The best Sunday Roast I’ve ever had, and wouldn’t be surprised if this is the best in London. Decadent, luxurious, every mouthful packed with flavour. Perfect service too.
R. L.
If you are really really hungry, the food there will be much much enough for your hunger. However, wait time is toooo long. Food taste is delicious. Service is kind and warm.
E. W.
Absolutely amazing food and great dining experience. The wine list is fantastic and their wine bar next door has some great little bites. Recommend the guinea fowl dumplings, venison and steak!! 5 starsss
P. P.
It is quirky, historical and yum British food. If you have friends from out of town then take them here for something different in a cool London neighbourhood. Recommend having the potatoes with chops.. if you are a fan of mince it is fabulous, rich, cooked down for hours.
A. D.
Good quality meat. We had a couple of starters (bread and butter, the cod’s cream then Sirloin and the lamb, potatoes and cabbage. A glass of wine and a couple of beers.
W. T.
Food is amazing and service to match. Georgia who look after up was a superstar making we was watered, fed and laughing.
J. S.
This review is for the shop not the restaurant. Bought a 3kg beef brisket from these guys. Butchers were helpful and friendly offering up advice on the prep and cooking. Meat was superb dry rubbed overnight and cooked over eight hours, which was the longest we could bear to wait. Nice thing is that the shop is connected to the kitchen so you can actually try before you buy as well! Highly recommended.
D. P.
Sunday lunch with top quality food and attentive service.
Snug seating
Central London prices

First time back post lockdown... It's still got all the style and charm it has always had. And if anything the good has got even better. Fantastic service. Fantastic atmosphere. Perfect for every occasion
C. K.
QCH has been one of my favourite restaurants in London ever since it opened. The venue itself is a beautiful mix of traditional British chop house (think high sided banquettes and benches) and an European brasserie/bistro. The food is ingredient led, with a huge emphasis on provenenance and the very highest quality. Thankfully Shaun the head chef does little to mess with the natural flavours and seeks to heighten the inherent qualities of each ingredient rather than mask them or confuse them with a multitude of unnecessary showy techniques. The food is rich, hearty and bold - but something really rather special. Perfect for a weekday date night or an anniversary. Prices reflect the high quality but on receipt of the check you feel you've gotten a real bargain.
R. C.
Excellent local butcher and shop selling cakes, savouries and hot sandwiches during the week. Also sells coffee beans, some vegetables and juices. The staff are amazingly friendly and the butchers are very helpful with their cooking tips. Their salted caramel brownies are also divine.
A. C.
Gorgeous food prepared with great ingredients, great location and super friendly staff! Would recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
J. H.
Been coming to this fabulous restaurant for years and the food and wines on offer are consistently remarkable. Sunday lunch is always a favourite and has to be the best in London. The staff are awesome and the atmosphere laid back but buzzy. The booths mean you have plenty of room and don't feel squashed in. Coming here is a real treat. They also deliver! Not cheap but worth it for the quality.
K. T.
We had a fantastic meal. The chops were great and so were the potatoes. Would definitely recommend this place to any meat lover!
R. R.
The food from here is absolutely amazing! I would highly recommend this place. The service was outstanding too. My partner and I had a lovely evening and will definitely be coming back again.
D. P.
I love this shop.
It has great produce( meat, cheese, bread & vegetables. It's a bit pricey but really worth it and highly recommended!
a. h.
My husband's favourite restaurant in London. The meat is top quality and tastes amazing, but the other dishes are just average. Seating arrangement isn't super comfortable...
v. m.
Excellent all round experience. Accomodating staff, high quality food, nice ambience
M.
Sunday lunch
Pros: Nice place, ok staff, lovely beef on Sunday lunch, lovely Tourine starter.
Cons: very expensive for what you get on the Sunday lunch plate: very poor veg selection (just a small bowl of peas, carrots and a corn on the cob), food plates were removed too quickly from the table- while I was still chewing.
For the price, Sunday lunches elsewhere are much better value, in my experience.
M. V.
Great meal, fab roasts but seating is pretty uncomfortable for a long sitting
A. N.
Our Sunday lunch was fantastic from start to finish. Food was so superb I had to get their cookbook.
If you book a table outside, you can bring your dog.
W. N.
The confit potatoes and cods' roes are the signature dishes here. Don't miss out the meat dishes too. Staff are helpful and know the menu well, great restaurant overall.
K. G.
Fantastic meal from start to finish. The food was exceptional, the gorgonzola starter especially. Great wine and service too. Will definitely be back!
R. M.
Simple and quality meals here. Staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I'll definitely will return. And I really like the vintage interior.
F. C.
Amazing beef brisket, caramelised onion and pickle sandwich.
Z. Z. N.
Such a cute place with quality food, impressive vintage vibe and great ambience! Would love to go back again some time very very soon
D. M.
Exceptional wine list and amazing food. Loved the croquettes and the turbot. Great, friendly service.
C. H.
Actual perfection! Welcoming lovely set lunch and the treacle tart is exquisite!
F. L.
Something to be said for having a fatty 400g mangalitza pork chop alone on a plate sitting on grade 2 list benches.
S. M.
Foodie hot spot! Such a great little deli full of high quality meat, carefully curated local food products, and some of the most delicious baked goods and best sandwiches in London. I buy something every time I pop in here and savour it!
M. G.
We just enjoyed an excellent lunch at the Quality Chop House. The menu had the kind of options where it is hard to choose. The meat was cooked to perfection; as were the sides. The staff worked as a team and there was clear pride and understanding of the food being served. The descriptions of the dishes were spot on. They also judged their customers well and responded with good humour. We decided to share a treacle tart and custard pudding and my beloved suggested that she should have a bigger spoon. The staff were unable to oblige quite as requested but I found that my dessert spoon had been deftly replaced by a teaspoon! We would definitely eat here again, and on a regular basis. Thoroughly recommended.
A. M.
Our third time eating at The Quality Chop House on Sunday 4th October, and first time trying the Sunday Roast Menu. Possibly the best roast dinner we have eaten out at a restaurant. There were five of us in total, with four of us having the lamb to share and one having the roast pork. All dishes were cooked to perfection, and the portion sizes of both the meat, roast potatoes and vegetables were extremely generous (we ended up taking some home). A slightly more expensive roast than you might expect to find at your average pub/restaurant, but the set roast menu price for either two or three courses, coupled with the quality and quantity of food, makes it very good value.
As always, the service was excellent and friendly, and although the hospitality trade are going through extremely tough times at the moment, with capacity restricted etc., it is great to see a restaurant pulling out all the stops in order to offer customers a great experience. It is also really evident that the staff really care about the customer experience, and care about the business. We will be returning (again!).
H. C.
Just received a home cooking kit as a gift (the closest thing to a takeaway this place can do if you live on the other side of London) - Beef cheek, confit potatoes, rhubarb and custard crumble. The food was incredible, delicious and indulgent, looking forward to visiting in person post lockdown! My compliments to the chef!
b.
Recently reserved the private dining room for 11 people, for a special family event. It was truly spectacular; the room is beautiful and the service was great. But the food... is amazing every time. The only problem with this place is that you have to have a lot of will power not to completely gorge on the starter selection & save room for the piles of delectable meat. Highly, highly recommend, can't wait to come back.
A.
A beautiful lunch with my parents.
They had the short tasting menu and I had a vegetarian version of the short tasting menu.
The food was delightful and the staff treated us very well. Every course was very well thought out and different to the last in style and flavour.
The front door is impressive but can also be mistaken for a wall. The interior is delightful.
K. L. G.
Good steaks and confit potatoes
The trout tartare is a bit "light"
Friendly staff
S. R.
Great food, ambience and service. A little on the high price end for what’s on offer, but you won’t be disappointed.
P. C.
I am very excited to try out the incredible selection I’ve just purchased! Superb experience with your cooking tips included!
W. K.
Rather impressed with the starter of croquettes and brown crab. Confit potatoes do live up to its hype - golden crisp shell encasing soft layers inside. Main of mince on toast had amazing flavours, but were too heavily seasoned. Great quality food and friendly, professional service - lovely experience!
Z. P.
Honestly one of the best places I have eaten in London. Classic food concepts created in a fresh modern-day version, not only are the main items of each dish amazing, the side dishes are where the magic it at.
Impeccable service, extremely attentive. I was celebrating my birthday and the attention to detail went as far as to have a personalised birthday card signed by staff to meet on arrival. The way the floor staff work cohesively it a great credit.
It is great to see that a menu reflects ingredients sourced locally. The anniversary banquet menu was fantastic and the reccomend wines to go with were also.
Thanks to all staff for a great evening.
J. C.
The QCH delivers once again. I had originally booked a table for next week for my birthday but because of the lockdown wanted to get one night out before the misery set in. After requesting a table a week earlier the team were happy to oblige. We sat at the counter in the window which was absolutely fine. There was a lovely birthday card signed by the whole team waiting. Such a lovely gesture. Our server was great. The food? What can I say. The croquettes were delish. My main of pork chop with the signature confit potatoes was divine. All finished off with rice pud, plum jam and hazelnuts. Thank you all for a great evening. Jan
J. B.
Delicious food and great selection of drinks. Service also very good.
A. A.
Great food. Game particularly good. Waiters easy going. No much spacd for pudding. We have been a few times and always enjoyed it. Try the offal chicken as a very reasonable bite. Take it as a starter. Large selection of wines a big on the expwnsive side on that front. Overall very good!
E. s.
Really enjoyed our lunch here (steak out to help out is a great deal - plus the starters and wine ;) ), the food is great and the atmosphere and decor is really great for the slightly special lunch. The only thing that was a bit disappointing is that service was a bit lacking in any emotion, we felt a bit like we weren't valued unlike some of the gushing receptions others around us got, maybe this was due to us having the deal
M. B.
I had heard good things about the Quality Chop House. But so often, the hype around a place isn't matched by reality. In fact it can often detract, raising expectations. Not so with the Quality Chop House. It fully lived up to the billing and offered a quite simply excellent lunch. Everything was impeccable and delicious. The famous confit potatoes and mince and dropping toast were both phenomenal. The wine is great. The starters fantastic. Set in a unique, listed interior, this is an atmospheric and all round great British meal.
J. P.
Ah, beige. Beige food, elevated to an art. From the rich brown game ragu to the golden confit potatoes, to the pale pork flesh, the whole gammut is here. The smooth mid-tan of the liver parfait on the dark chestnut of the rye bread and the spectrum of mottled browns all across the plump partidge. The ceiling is cream, the walls are cream, the floor is brown.
In a moment of weakness, someone decided to paint the walls of the gents in what I can only describe as 'blood aubergine', but that aside, it's perfection. This is meat for people who are serious about meat. It's not meat with a twist, or meat as part of a balanced diet, or meat smothered in an innovative sauce. It's meat flavoured meat. Very good meat, cooked very well, and put on a plate for you.
In addition to very good meat, the service was calm and professional, the cutlery, glasses and plates were excellent and the wine list was reliable. I might perhaps suggest the steak knives could have done with a few more seconds on whetstone, but that's about all.
The menu is short and to the point. I think it may have been technically possible to feed a vegetarian here, but I've no idea why you would want to. This is not Hawksmoor, and about as far from Gaucho as you can get. Quiet people sit on brown chairs and banquets tucking quietly into plates of brown delicious meaty food. This is not for showing off. It's for quietly sinking in a meat induced haze. Recommended.
C. O.
Outstanding, detail-focused-but-not-too-fussy food, very good service, beautiful room. Best meal in six months.
For a visitor to London, this is an ideal place to have a big meal while in town, if you like forward-thinking and clever food. The meat/chops are good, but for us it was the incredible snacks and starters that made the meal.
S. S.
One of the proudest restaurants in London- great food, made with love and care.
True to their name, the menu is always honest to the season, ensuring extremely high quality ingredients and meats. You will be shocked by the fullness of flavours, even apparently ordinary dishes tantalise.
The deli next door used to be a bit more interested, but the butcher is always on point. Great for a takeaway snack. Try the homemade crisps with the smoked cod roe.
Take them next door to the wine shop for an afternoon pit stop.
P. B.
Loved this place. Food was amazing, especially enjoyed the Smoked Cod's Roe and the Mangaltiza Black Pudding. Pork Chop was great too. Lovely venue with a nice atmosphere
I.
The meals that I have had for my past TWO birthdays at The Quality Chop House, are still some of the best meals I have ever eaten. Everything sounds perhaps slightly unusual, and not always necessarily something I would enjoy, and yet I end up loving every single thing I try. Don't see myself going anywhere else anytime soon, see you next birthday!
L. A.
Had a brilliant Sunday roast here (beef). Good value for 3-courses and food was excellent. Vegetarian main course was somewhat less impressive than the roasts (so would potentially stay clear of that one). Tables are a bit pokey, but adds to the charm and old-working-men’s-club feel of the place

We really weren't impressed, the chicken dish at £25 per head plus service was barely warm, even at second attempt and no alternative or discount offered when we mentioned again, the waiter just didn't seem to care. The broccoli with duck egg sounded nice, but again wasnt hot and not anything special to taste. The bread and cheese went very well together, but we had to pay for two dishes to make one nice one! The wine was nice, but I felt priced a tier above where you would expect for this type of restaurant. We didn't find the seating comfortable, but the restaurant does have character. Food generally particularly pricey for me mediocre quality.

This place is superb. I had the middlewhite pork chop which was absolutely delicious. And the slab of bacon to start was also amazing. It's really nicely done inside too... Feels old school and somehow luxurious and simple at the same time. Great date place. Great for foodies. Not so great for vegans! And probably not too easy with young kids as there is bench seating and it's quite tight.
R. G.
I had an excellent meal here. Pheasant with chestnut mushrooms, salsify and hazelnuts was delicious. The wine we had, really good. Each dish was well put together, using good quality ingredients and cooked beautifully. The service was also good; friendly without being over bearing. It was a bit pricey, but this is London and you can get worse for more.
J. D.
Very rich and flavoursome food. Mozzarella starter was delicious and swimming in olive oil so very indulgent. The confit potatoes were perfectly cooked. The steak was too rare for me and all the food was very oily and rich so only for special occasions. Friendly staff and nice little place for a special lunch.
J. W.
Horrid benches to sit on. Expensive. Underwhelming roast dinner.
However the meat was sensational and the service excellent.
G. R.
What an amazing restaurant, highly recommend. Simply delicious. The rib eye was just perfect as we're the triple cooked (maybe 5x cooked?!) chips. Will be back.
J. G.
Wonderful food in a great setting with very personable table service. We, a party of loud men, hired the upstairs room and were treated to a delicious set menu with more starters than I can recall and great quality beef to follow. I really didn't need dessert. The waiting staff were very accommodating.
s. s.
A wonderful setting and food that is simple but beautifully prepared - the confit potatoes are excellent ! Staff are well informed and diligent.
Can't wait for it to re-open.
M. G.
The food is simple, but amazing. Was difficult to get a booking here and for obvious reasons. Must try the bacon, the potato dauphinoise cooked in duck fat and the chorizo. Not a single dish disappointed....! To top it off the server was also great.
J. G.
I think this is one of the best places for meat in London. The meat there is just astonishingly good (I don't like sirloin but theirs was to die for thanks to the oven cooking and resting time). They have a very descent wine selection. The staff is extremely friendly, knowledgeable and passionate. The atmosphere is great with these really cool old plates + they serve great bread. So don't wait just book.
But avoid the grocery next door, it's not the same standards at all (would be 5 star if it was for that)
S. W.
Fantastic Sunday lunch just enjoyed... We didn't have a starter as such but combined together olives and bread and squid ink crackers to great effect as a sharer. Would recommend the same. Mains were a good size. The cheapest red is very palatable too! A very nice treat to take someone on I'd say.
R. N.
Steak night box was excellent but required a lot more prep than I anticipated whilst my steak dining buddy sat outside observing social distancing rules!
H. W.
Probably the best private dining room in London - always brilliant service, and wonderful food.
K. K.
Incredible Sunday roast although fairly pricy £26 or (3 courses for £35).
I went with a Vegan and a Vegetarian and it was not a good menu for them.
Exceptional customer service and bathrooms.
Seating can be cramped but atmosphere is wonderful.
A. O.
I have eaten here three times and the food, service and wine is always perfect. Everyone I've been with loves it.
C. Y. L.
Great place to enjoying steak and wine in Farringdon area. Someone may feel uncomfortable about an old bench style seat.
S. B.
Thank you for telling us about Moro around the corner, we had an amazing lunch there. We turned up at yours at 2.25pm to be told sorry kitchen closes at 3pm, came past at 5pm folks still at tables, and chef in the kitchen. Congratulations on such a successful business, spent just short of £300 around the corner.
N. G.
Amazingly treated simple (not a slight) dishes executed with exemplary deftness. The cods roe snack is a thing of utter class and I thought it couldn't get better but did! Not a single course I could fault, superb and a joy to eat.
j. i.
Possibly the best lamb I've eaten. Genuinely blown away by how good the food was.
Additionally the staff are really nice and were very knowledgable about the food (and wine). They were able to cater for every dietary requirement on our table including Gluten Free (coeliac safe, but call ahead if you're mega-reactive). Would highly recommend!
B. A.
Great service, professional and personal, every detail was taken care of. Top marks for service. I went on a Tuesday night which is steak night and decided to have a steak. The steak was good but not excellent, everything else was excellent, had the steak been the same quality as the starter and dessert then it would be 5 stars. It's like to go back and try the normal menu because those dishes looked very good.
M. a. D.
Surprisingly good and original cuisine for London. Everything we tried on the carte was good well presented and tasted what it was supposed to. The service was fine. Staff was a tiny bit overconfident while didn't know the carte. Really expensive but I reckon the quality of the products is worth it.
A. T.
Really unusual and interesting setting. Loved the Victorian dining room. Waiters were attentive and informative. Couple of the main courses were a bit ott. £16 for a plate of mince was a bit steep as it wasn't really anything special but all other food was superb.
C. H.
One of my favourite restaurants. Always fantastic food, friendly helpful staff. I've never found fault with anything.
Highly recommend the mince and dripping on toast.
j. r.
Wonderful food - I had black truffle risotto to start, and the Suffolk barnsley chop with confit potatoes and sprouts for my main. It was superb, albeit on the pricey side. The service was excellent too: one of our party was very late, but they accommodated him with relaxed aplomb.
S. C.
We hired the private dining room and enjoyed the tasting menu. Meat rich, this was a treat with melt in the mouth lamb, creamy pork and rich beef ...
Oh there was some nice veg too. A treat.
J. H.
Whilst as a vegetarian this may not have been the ideal choice of venue for me, they did make at least a bit of an effort to attempt to adapt one of the set menus to suit. It's one of those odd instances where I somehow enjoyed the dining experience even though I'm not exactly sure I enjoyed the food that much. I liked everything else - the decor, the atmosphere, the staff and the wine list (managed to impress my dining companion who is far more knowledgeable about wine than I am with my selection - a very enjoyable Burgundy). A bit reminiscent of St. John in some ways, perhaps a tad more down to earth and a bit less minimalist (if that's ridiculous pairing of words).
M. J. (.
Great Sunday lunch with friendly staff and amazing food..
The Lamb for 2 simply was delicious and the trimmings were to die for..
This place has some very interesting history too and is set in a beautiful and foodie area..
So worth the visit and will return soon x
A. N.
Re-launched November 2012 so ignore the old reviews as this is a fantastic new restaurant. Substantial set menus at dinner -- the food changes every day; we had an incredible roast venison main -- but you can also have smaller plates or single courses in the wine bar next door. They have an amazing wine list.
F. S.
Really good. I never order steak because I don't trust anyone to make it like I want. QC is one of a few places that got my steak right! Must try - also their vegetable sides should be made into mains because they are really good too!
t. h.
There’s some great food here, no doubt. The fish soup was intensely flavourful, the confit potatoes an absolute revelation. However, for a set lunch menu, 19 is a big ask when you’re not including any sides. And my main was 200g onglet (which costs the same as mince).
This is a classy place but I don’t think the value is there.
Also, they claimed not to be part of the £5off good food guide scheme, when they are clearly included in it.
N. R.
I have been here a couple of times, the first for just wine and bar snacks - it was a lovely, intimate place to spend with a couple of friends drinking REALLY good wine with very polite and friendly service. The restaurant itself is beautiful, almost feels like the set of a historical film or TV series. As I enjoyed it so much, I came back to eat. The food was really good, but I would maybe warn anyone who is picky or unadventurous before eating here. It uses lots of now-unusual and traditional british ingredients, (think parts of animals you don't normally see on a plate nowadays - but they do cater well for veggies), but if you are willing to give things a try you will most likely find it delicious. Given the lively discussions the food prompts, this is a great place to come to maybe break the ice with people you don't regularly socialise with!
M. M.
I really love this place. You can always count on great food, amazing wines, lovely and knowledgeable service with a great atmosphere. They're super educated about the provenance of their produce and only work with producers of quality ingredients. I have a soft spot for the bar area where you can just have a few glasses of wine and small plates.
G. B.
A few weeks ago I went to Meatballs on my way to a gig in the area. It's really a nice place! I was a bit confused by the menu and thought I had to specify what three meatballs I'd like for one portion, so I asked for three different ones instead of one portion of three times the same kind of meatball and sauce. However, they happily did it, so I could try three different meals in one go. All three were delicious! :)
N.
I am a big fan of this restaurant and enjoy the food so much that I'm not put off by the church pew style benches. The menu is well sourced and daily changing which gives an extra incentive to return. Wine was well priced. Service friendly and attentive. Would recommend for a wintery evening meal with friends, or just anytime you want to eat well
D. L.
Excellent seasonal food, with roast grouse as the autumn centrepiece (other options available if game birds ain't your thing. Superb ingredients, precisely cooked, and served by friendly staff. Ace
C. W.
Great food and wine matching. Here for a dinner with Barbaresco wine and they included a salade Niçoise, which shouldn't have worked but was amazing. Very good discrete and professional service. And the chicken. Never order this in restaurants but I would if it was always this good
D. C.
Thoughtful and knowledgeable service. Scallops in white truffle were excellent. Gamey mallard. Precisely cooked grouse, graphically presented! Authentic decor but cramped seating. Classic wine selection, well priced. Good value puddings. Very pleasant birthday lunch with my special brother. Recommended.
S. I.
Actually the best sandwich I've had in London. Beef brisket with dripping and mustard and pickles on their own bread. Divine. Wonderful small butchery and a good wine shop also. Great for treats.
N. M.
A very pleasant afternoon sitting on the pavement in Farringdon Road. I sometimes think that chefs and restaurants try to hard but some of the dishes were very tasy
A. N.
Lunch review: Weekday lunch sandwiches which are different each day are amazing. The chicken sandwich (I believe which are available on Wednesday) Is so tasty. I need to get the recipe for that most delicious garlic mayo they use. It's enough food for me, but some men from teh office need a bit extra afterwards to fill-up, The hand cooked crisp are also worthwhile. Although I'm not a big chocolate fan, colleagues go crazy for the brownies.
R. M.
Really enjoyed my meal here, had the mince or toast which was definitely different and very satisfying. The wine was incredible. It's on a very busy road which is the only downside but once you're inside it's very cosy with a victorian cafe feel.
M. N.
Quality produce, simply prepared but with skill and presented well with an excellent wine list.
All Rounder, just don't sit on the benches. Choose a normal table in the other dining room.
Order extra Confit potatoes, with caviar if you can. And the full size portion of mince on toast is extra delicious, because you'll want more than the snack size!
T. D.
Incredible food and wine list. Really great staff who are not pushy like so many are. It was quiet when I went with candles making home majority of the light (I can't quite remember)
Quite pricy though so don't sweat!
L. R.
Very good all rounder. Food is fantastic seasonal and tasty, service attentive and efficient, wine list is simple but enjoyable. Only downside the seating is uncomfortable if you are tall like me. Should be much busier than it is but I think this is down to location more than anything.
K. B.
Incredibile service, delicious food, top notch wine and they even pulled an espresso martini out of the bag
S. D.
Retro decoration, delicious retro food. My friend and I came here Friday night for ‘balls and a chit chat, and started off with the house special, blueberry gin and tonic. They might be only £5.95 but, oh, these are strong, with an especial ’I love you’ to the booze-infused blueberries. Perfect for Friday – not so great for lunchtimes! I get frustrated with those menus that overload you with choice, so I like the simple suggestions here – ‘balls, underneath (spaghetti/mash/etc) and side dishes (creamed spinach, salad). We chose a trio of sliders each – three mini brioche buns full of the meatballs of our choice. I went for pork and rosemary with a cream sauce, lamb with dill and chicken, all highly recommended. Dishes aren’t huge – not a problem for us as we were picking and sharing….plus we’d already spotted the dessert list. A great meal and not pricey either – £5.95 for all three sliders, side dishes hovering around the £3 mark and puddings all under £6.
G. B.
Great shop, very friendly staff. Amazing quality f everything I ever ordered.
B. H.
Expensive, but excellent quality items in their shop. Service can be slow but they are helpful. I have never eaten in the restaurant
O. F.
amazing food and thoughtful service. Fresh seasonal ingredients impeccably and interestingly cooked. Buy them next door to try your own at home. My husbands grouse came with all the trimmings, including outrageously rich heart attack inducing foie gras on fried bread. The staff looked after us exceptionally well: gently tolerating our children at the onset of Saturday night service, making our son's leftover sirloin into a steak sandwich to take away, and bringing us an extra scoop of the delicious summer pudding sorbet when we ordered seconds. All in all one of the nicest meals I have had in ages. Go!
F. S.
So delicious always wonderful food and quality staff little pricey, but totally worth it!
J. G.
We tried:
Chicken liver pate and crackling - excellent. Smooth pate with well balanced flavours combined with light crunchy crackling.
Squid ink wafers with taramasalata - also good but perhaps a little two similar to the pate dish. Would advise on choosing one of these two.
Sourghdough and butter - delicious! Absolutely a must-try. Would be even better if they didn't charge for it as it seems a little silly to charge £2.
Confit potatoes- executed perfectly, with crispy outsides and fluffy insides. The experience was a little decadant though, even when shared between two. I probably wouldn't get them on a return visit as the garnish included with the mains was fantastic and substantially healthier.
Roast sirloin- excellent tender protein and fluffy yorkshire pudding, served with ample fresh vegetables.
Mullet - a simple light dish that was very evocative of the sea. Smaller portion size, so avoid if you are famished, but great for a lighter flavour sensation!
Honey tart - good pastry, excellent honey flavour without being too sweet. Lovely
Overall a great meal that was just a little too expensive to justify 5*s.
A. W.
Wow the food was amazing. Really interesting combinations, beautifully prepared. They do a fresh menu every day based around ingredients in season. Book the private room for a special event -it's beautiful.
M. J.
We had the beef set menu in the private room upstairs. Great ambience, perfect for a group of ~15, including hifi to play own music. Food, wine and service were all excellent.
M. W.
This is one of the finest restaurants in London without a Michelin star.
D. Q.
Excellent service but food is poor value. We were in for lunch and whilst the food is of a good quality, the portion size was disappointing. Lovely waiting staff though.
A. M.
Great food and a fantastic setting, this has earnt a return visit with colleagues and referrals from friends. The menu is not massive, but the quality more than makes up for it. Highly Recommend.
I. J.
I really did not know what to expect here. The setting is quaint and traditional. The service is exceptional, really great staff, friendly, professional and helpful. The food was amazing along with a great selection of wines. Thank you
P. B.
Delicious food and perfect service for our Sunday roast!
J. H.
Returned to the QCH and had a great evening. Service was excellent and the food very tasty. Thank you!
S. C.
Food ok but a bit pretentious, "confit potatoes" are no improvement on simple roast ones. Good carafe wine. Menu rather terse but waiting staff helpful. Avoid the bench seats, very cramped.
L. G.
Good food and service. Solid choice.
J. J.
Not my 1st time here but went to try the 150 year celebration menu. Food was awesome as was the wine and the friendly service.
I can't recommend this place enough.
N. A.
So I've been to the butcher's shop adjoining the restaurant twice - the sausages (wild garlic and coarse chopped) were among the finest I have ever eaten, and not too pricey. And then yesterday I bought skirt steak which was not only bursting with an almost gamey flavour but absolutely tender even when sliced with a non-serrated knife. I'll be going back here again, and again. They even sell chicken carcass for stock. Reviewing this review I fully acknowledge that it sounds like the authentic emanations of a north London foodie tosspot - but I don't care. Very strongly recommended.

Quality Chop House has been an eating house since 1869 and was designed by the original architect Rowland Plumbe. This heritage listed frontage and interior is here to stay. Once entered into the dining hall, you will be greeted by the warmth of the narrow oak benches and tables. A step back in time!
The 4 course set menu is the usual here for dinner. As I had a dietary requirement, they were happy to accommodate me though I did phone to inform them prior. You can find quality British fare here served on gorgeous crockery. The highlight for me was the perfectly cooked pink veal with the softest potato & parsnip mash. We also managed to have a taste of the 1952 Domaine Pietri-Geraud Banyuls. The downside - the lemon tart served with cream was a bit of a let down.
Will I head back there again? Absolutely. Great choice of wine selection and simple delicious fare.
A. L.
Found myself, a long time vegetarian here on a Monday night in December - only because it's my cousin's BDay of course. Not a lot of veggie options but the ones they do have were good, albeit if you like things bland, this place ain't for you. The baked cauliflower with black truffle was actually quite light compared to the celeriac wellington main. The desserts were all good - we tried two different desserts to share (chestnut meringue and treacle tart which tastes better together) as well as the black truffle tunworth (for me too salty) but otherwise, great. The petit four blackberry jelly was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! This is definitely the perfect place for omnivores but for veggies (not vegans) it's not too bad at all. They also do BYO Mondays (not in December though)!
N. D.
Lovely to be back after so long, food, service and ambience up to the usual high standards.
M. I.
We love this shop and use its brilliant butcher all the time. Carefully sourced free-range and organic meat.
I. M.
The Portland people get meaty and they do it in style. The atmospheric restaurant brings its history (I think it was a Victorian affordable restaurant for working men originally (or something similar)?) tantalising close.
The food seems to fit perfectly with the restaurant's vibe. With a stripped back approach that doesn't scream about the morsels that accompany the meat / game. I went for the partridge with all the trimmings, which was succulent and just gamey enough to make it interesting (I think there is always a seasonal game item on the menu with "trimmings" that should never be ignored).
My other half went for the fish and we (mainly me) had a Barnsley chop on the side. This was substantial but it's buttery fat rendered perfectly and the medallion's perfect pink tenderness meant every morsel was lapped up.
I can't quite recall what we did about desert buy I can remember happily trundling out of the door, perfectly sated thanks to a wonderful restaurant and it's generous staff.
J. T.
an incredible restaurant with a diverse and ever changing menu daily. a wide variety of options for both lunch and dinner with excellent decor and a friendly atmosphere. we thoroughly recommend that you go soon before it becomes the next big thing
A. G.
Really loved this place- great interior, fantastic food. Went for the saturday lunch menu: onglet steak, confit potatoes, pickled walnut sauce and honey tart for dessert, all extremely tasty. Will definitely come back.
R. M.
It is called the Quality Chop House, a clue in the name ! Good points: dover crab starters, desserts (though could have been slightly bigger), Swaledale lamb to die for and probably all the meat dishes. Bad points: if you don't like, or fancy, meat there are only two options, one veggie and one fish. My wife had the the veggie and it was very poor both in presentation and concept. The kale we chose as a side was cold and, though replaced, was still only moderate in warmth. The confit potatoes (which were lovely) were cooked in goose fat and thus unavailable to non meat eaters. I thought the drinks prices were also expensive but that depends on a person's individual pocket. It also works a 19th-century working man's 'eating house' schtick but does it really need to have poor/cheap glassware and cutlery ? Would I eat there again ? Absolutely but only if accompanied by another meat eater. Can they really afford to ignore such a large demographic ?
I. W.
Really good quality of produce but the food lacked the wow factor (especially considering the price). Enjoyed the private dining room and staff and service was great.
C. C.
Great wine selection, super friendly staff and nice atmosphere. The best in the area.
J. W.
Delicious food and wine and brilliant, attentiive and friendly service. Cannot recommend enough, thank you to Joe and team for looking after us.
J. H.
Great beer selection with a very attentive staff. Chef outdid himself with the pork chop. Tender and moist with perfect flavor.
I. D.
Fantastic. Perfectly executed classic meat and game dishes plus all the trimmings, in a really nice rustic dining room. Excellent service and great, reasonable wine list.
J. A. M. d. l. R.
Very good food. Nice staff. Very good conservators place. A bit pricey and chairs are not so comfortable, but the quality of food makes it deserves a visit or two.
J. B.
Generally excellent food although steak on the chewy side but tasty. Very good service; great ambience for lunch.
K. H.
Delicious food, wonderful service, lovely historic setting. I was taken here by a colleague who told me it is his favourite place in London - I can see why!
E. S.
Well location and food quality was good.
f. a.
How was QCH? Where does one start? The obliging, attentive and courteous service? The waiters' remarkable wine knowledge and dish paring? Or the confit potatoes?! The very best of British cuisine. Seasonal, yet imaginative menu. Consistency all through my 3 visits in 6 months. I salute you QCH.
J. W.
Excellent value lunch menu with a range of British classics such as mince on toast, pork chops and trifle.
J. B.
A quintessentially English place. Relive some of the glamour this place once sought to bring to London's Victorian working class with its narrow booths, beautiful monochrome floor tiles, wooden panels, 19th century style crockery and much, much more.
You will be served English recipes: game, fish and vegetables cooked to perfection. The waiters are frankly excellent, keen to please their guests, knowledgeable and professional.
Places like these are far and few between. You must visit. I know I will most certainly come back another time.
C. H.
Lovely food, attentive service, well thought out menu, not long but everything our table ordered was absolutely top draw. Very highly recommended.
M. S. W.
Excellent! A great selection of meats, accompanying wines and many other items such as jams and sauces
a. i.
Good service, average food (for the price). I was expected to be blown away but it just felt like an overpriced experience with not much to show for it.
M. P.
Very good and tasty food. Awesome service and great wines. Totally worth it :) Became one of my favourites
J. M. P.
Lovely setting and amazing food
K. E.
Fantastic Sunday roast! The food was delicious and they were incredibly accommodating with gluten free options. Worth every penny!
l. t.
so worth a visit! value for money, lovely people and cosy place. i can highly recommend the chicken, pork, beef and lamb balls...and the mash and peas...umm we tried quite a lot of the menu! was my 2nd visit and again, it was packed!
A. R.
Fantastic steak in a traditional setting. The wine list is outstanding and up there with the best of London.
J. S.
The most delicious food executed to such a high standard every time. The meat is of such high quality and make sure you always order the confit potatoes
C. C.
Feels like a second home. Wonderful wine and good honest food. The set menu for £39 can't be beaten, it's always a delight
J. T.
Modern british dining, in a elegant old London house filled with French wine and some smooth jazz in the background. If you looking for come decent British food go visit.
H. 2.
Fantastic service, amazing food - awesome menu.
Loved it.
M. G.
Food was very good. Service was excellent. Seating was somewhat uncomfortable but believe it was due to listed nature of building. Very convenient for Kings Cross.
S. A.
Amazing food and wine list is you love meat! I had the pairing menu and cannot say enough great things about the quality of the food and service at this restaurant.
D. E.
Excellent food and service, recommended
P. D.
Fantastic food and an awesome wine! The staff were attentive and setting is great. The only slight niggle is that the bench seating isn't fantastically roomy.
F. A.
The food was delightful and the staff treated us very well. Every course was very well thought out and different to the last in style and flavor.
M. M.
very cozy place and great start with some good wines nect door. food is well prepared and good portions, I did try the grouse and loved it.
S. B.
Nice location , great environment and best food. One of those places where you want to visit again and again.
V. L.
A really good place to enjoy truly great British quality products. the Menu changes daily. the cooking here is spot on and the whole experience will transport you in market 1950's decor. Read more here
E. P.
Incredible. Perfect service, good atmosphere, and amazing food. The lamb with mushrooms and anchovies was life changing. Anchovies for the win for sure.
S. R.
Great food. Intimate atmosphere
D. F.
Great spot, loved the original decor
Food was hearty , very tasty and filling!!
Staff were very pleasent, well worth a visit 👍
R. B.
If you're thinking about a group of 6 or more, don't, you'll get an abbreviated menu that has no steak. Disappointment. But otherwise nice spot with good service.
K. M.
Excellent traditional English cuisine. Vintage interior and friendly service (shout out to Ciarán for taking great care of us)
R.
The best beef I have ever had, everything about the meal was just amazing. Probably my most favorite culinary experience in london so far.
J. B.
Had the lunch deal, OK onglet, confit potatoes way too salty, however. Starter of mackerel nicely done. Good service, but really nothing special
B. D.
An excellent meal with great food & service. The only complaint we had was the uncomfortable seats but you that's part of the locations charm I guess.
C. S.
Brilliant service, serving staff were really friendly and enthusiastic. Food was also excellent as was the choice of drinks.
S. B.
what a wonderful place great food greater staff and a very long history! Love every bit of it!
A. S.
Best lamb sandwich I’ve ever had
R. S.
Outstanding in every respect. High-quality ingredients, precise cooking, great drinks list and authoritative service.

Best Sunday roast in London.
R. C.
I'd been told by several friends that this was somewhere special. It exceeded expectations. Outstanding food and perfect service
G. S.
Nice products but definitely too expensive.
F. B.
Best doughnut in London. Bread ahead you have been put in your place! Also the salt beef sandwich i just ate was
M. Z.
Their sandwiches are to die for! Delicious! I will definitely come back every week!
K. D.
You can find a quality meat.
J. K.
Blimey, where to start?
I’m lucky to be local to this “shop”, but I have successfully encouraged friends from all over to visit it. And they return, which I take as a “win”. It is probably the best food (and wine etc) shop in London. It is certainly my favourite. That’s important to me.
Where else can you find the smokiest of scamorza alongside the grungiest of miso paste, the rudest of fennel, and the digestif from holiday which you really do want to sip again whilst (almost) sober? Proper penne. PROPER PENNE! Etc.
In short, it is a (the) mini mecca for foodies that should (does) delight even the most precious and pretentious (oh do be quiet!). It almost makes “curated” an acceptable adjective. Almost.
Not that the staff are precious - they are all friendly and knowledgeable. Many have beards in the modern way of being different.
Joanna, the manager, is relentlessly (and I use that word advisedly) expanding and improving the offer. I’m sure she would be delighted to entertain requests and suggestions. Terrible sense of humour though (Irish... just smile politely and wave).
A few more things to mention... the lunch fare offers (you guessed it!) the best hot sandwiches I’ve ever tasted, alongside other delectable and rotating (temporally) options. The Wine Bar is a convivial place to enjoy smaller eats and treats in the evening.
Last but not least: the meat.
If meat is turning into a guilty pleasure, then I guess we really should be aiming to buy the best whilst also aiming to eat less. I’m sure it makes sense. Personally, I’m still working on the latter. Shoot me, save a cow/planet. But QCH can help with the former. (Even the butcher is now London’s most charming - always a comforting quality in someone with excusable access to cleavers)
Of course you wouldn’t expect it to be the cheapest place to buy food - personally I don’t begrudge paying a fair price the highest quality, and get everything else I need from Costco. Yeap, I got it all worked out!
W. L.
Restaurant with quality meats. The restaurant has been opening in the same spot for so many years! Their chips is a must.
K. K.
Good place for a fix price lunch excellent food. Fixed price menu and bottle of wine for two £100
H. K.
Great tasting meat and accompaniments, whether from the restaurant or the deli. It is pricey, but also very high quality.
P. S.
Excellent food, a lovely intimate setting and wonderful service. I hope you enjoy your evening as much as I did.
D. C.
Expensive, but you get what you pay for. Really good meats awesome butchers. They do lunches during the week that are fantastic.
R. W.
Took my handsome fella for his first ever Sunday roast. Food was spot on and the service was tremendous.
S. U.
Excellent food, good service but knocking one star off for the prices which felt a bit too high for the surroundings and the location.
P. B.
An eclectic grade 2 listed dining room with a Victorian fridge harks back to days gone by. Wonderful food and attentive staff
H.
Awesome hot turkey sandwich
