Great service and nice value for lunch items (pies) and lovely selection of chutneys as well. Enjoyed the cheese and onion pie where the quantity of cheese was very generous!

Best butcher and deli in Oxford. The pies and especially the pastys are amazing and hugely generous on the portions. The giant Cornish pasty can literally feed 4 people, it's incredible.
Cooked meats, fresh meat, a wonderful fresh deli counter and a great selection of chutneys and sauces. It's a must visit on every trip to Oxford.

Went in mid November 2019, ordered the lamb and rosemary meat pie, apple and black currant fruit pie, 2 sausage rolls and 2 scotch eggs. Was so absolutely delicious, we went back 3 days later to get more. This time we ordered the steak and onion meat pie and an apple and black currant fruit pie. Would strongly recommend David John Butchers to anyone in the Oxford area.

Top quality meat. Often I'll get sausages or cuts from here as a treat or if we have guests. The staff are very knowledgeable and will help with cooking or preparation advice if you need it. They also have a great range of pates and chutneys. Once you've tried these guys you'll find it hard to go back to the supermarkets.

One of my favourite shops in the Covered market. Old spot or the chilli sausages are sublime. Last night I had one of their chilli beefburgers at home and it was pukka. Succulent and spicy. But the real treat are their selections of pies, pasties and other savouries. The staff are great, always courteous and friendly.

I think it's criminal this place doesn't get more attention, it's one of the most weirdly cheap food places in Oxford. I go here to get lunch all the time, as you can have a big sausage roll for £1, and an absolutely giant cornish pasty for £2.35 that I once made last three days. They also have a huge range of pies, crumbles and pastries that are all stuffed with filling and really good value. The people that run it are friendly and you can even get some things heated up to take away.

I have been dealing with this butcher for quite a few years now and I can only say that I consider it the best butcher I've had dealings with. The staff are very obliging and patient and also run an excellent delivery service. I cannot praise them high enough

A really great butcher's but it is the pie's that keep you coming back for more. For the number 1 is the large Cornish Pasty, filled to the brim, just and brown sauce.

Ordered a 6" diameter 'Game Pie' last week. A couple of days later I picked it up. Concerning its outer appearance, the pie was well 'pastryied,' with leaf motif on top. The overall first impression made me think of the scene in the film 'Oliver' ('Food, Glorious Food'.) where the table has a cornucopia of fine foods laid out on display. Our pie had a succulent, solid 3 meat packed centre that had both consistency yet variety in taste. (No glutinous gelatine.) It formed the centre piece of our Solstice soiree weekend meal and was grandly received as such. I can well recommend David John the Butchers for their quality of meats and attention to detail. Artisans all! Bravo. Shall be ordering another for my parents this coming Boxing Day.
