Reviews of Lockey Farm
A. L.
Great farm shop on the 'rustic' end of the spectrum. Decent sized car park which may suffer from puddles after rain. Well equipped shop with butchers, grocers, cheese area as well as alcohol section. There is also a cafe but we didn't visit. Worth a visit if you live in the locality.
L. M.
Excellent little farm and shop, improvements being made all the time, children had hours of fun on the golf, bouncing pillow, play park, loved the house and the animals are gorgeous and very friendly
A. B.
Wonderful cafe! New proprietor Roberto! - food is amazing. Evening restaurant is going to be so special when fully opened. Delicious breakfast was had. Lovely warm welcome. What more can you want? Thank you Roberto! X
L. G.
The coffee shop sells lovely pizzas and great coffee, staff are super friendly and helpful. Highly recommended
D. W.
Visited the cafe with a friend and sat in covered area outside to enjoy the autumn sun. Great pot of tea which I could allow to brew to perfection (has to be strong!). Bacon baguette superb too. Loads of bacon and the baguette was lovely toasted.
Y. T.
Amazing small farm with animals and playground... Also has a shop that sells very authentic and organic home made foods and drinks...
I. C.
Purveyors of quality local meats and veg. A great range of English cheeses and frozen products.
If you take the kids there is plenty for them and you to do and you can settle down to refreshments in their cafe.
a. h.
A great place to visit for a small donation with the children.
Place is a litte run down of late and not being able to bring a picnic from home is a shame as my son has alleries and the café doesn't cater for everyone.
I. P.
Nice little farm for kids, a few animals, sheep, ponies, alpacas, geese, no charge for entering but you can leave a donation if you like, it has a good play area and sand pit , also a good zip line for older children.
Small cafe serving various drinks and meals, worth a visit.
M. M.
This is a great place to bring the kids. The website has a reasonably accurate description of what is on offer. We visited in October during an overcast and mild day.
The jumping pillows, go carts and toy tractors were not out, but they only charged us £2 to go in.
What is there?
There is a free car park, which has the farm shop and tea room as well as the farm entrance. This is locked off-peak and you pay at the tea room. (CARE! The decking is extremely slippery when wet!)
The tea room is good and staff excellent. The facilities are clean and there is a disabled toilet with baby change.
B. B.
Lockey Farm's excellent butcher's section is always our first port of call for quality meat. Our favourite is the minted chunky lamb, which is sometimes presented as kebabs. But there's lots of other stuff, including venison and goat, plus duck breasts. Don't miss the cheese /deli counter with its array of local cheeses as well as meat pies and pasties. The staff are helpful and friendly. We visit regularly.
A. A.
Great place to spend a couple of hours. My pre-school aged children really enjoyed stroking the donkeys and playing on the bouncy pillow. Cafe prices were a real mix - kids drinks were god value but £6 for a piece of cake seemed steep!
G.
A lovely place to see some farm animals and go on play equipment. The jumping pillows are a big hit with the kids, a huge sandpit and tractor to take pictures on. There is a mini golf course which is all broke and not in use, such a shame as that and the track would be awesome if being used.
o. j.
Lovely place for breakfast while kids can play and see animals.
N. H.
Nice play area for the kids, you can take a picnic. There is a café and a farm shop. It doesn't cost to use the park, there are donation banks where you can donate if you wish.. We popped in a donation. It has toilet facilities.
D. S. (. F. a. A.
Lovely little working farm, has a cafe, farm shop with a butchers and a fresh flowers shop. The animals have plenty of space for free roam and there is even a park for the kids to play in. This farm definitely benefits from public donations to maintain and update it.
S. B.
Great place for three kids and free! Needs spring with a donation. Food great and good value. Farm shop a little expensive but good quality especially the meat counter
G. S. R.
Great play area, Lovely cafe with fresh produce and the butchers on site are of great quality!
D. m.
Even in winter this place is a great place to visit.. even if you just want to pet the animals. Cafe was open and busy... farm shop and gift shop also open.
Great play areas for children which are more functional in the summer.
When these are fully open there is a charge for entry which is fair enough.
T. H.
Pizzas to die for at the Farm Shop Cafe. Freshly cooked and authentically Italian! Thank you Roberto
B. C.
Nice place for families with younger children. a cafe, play area has zipline, sand play , huge jumping pillow, slides and swings amongst other things, a few farm animals.
S. C.
Best breakfast in two and a half years. Lovely staff didn't try shop yet that's next Saturday.
D. K.
Staff friendly. Bit tired. Needs some investment but then people need to donate or maybe they should charge. Price of cake far too high for such small slices. Still had a good time.
P. D.
Best breakfast around by a country mile, all produce is from the farm and top quality rather than cheap frozen cash and carry rubbish.
Great friendly staff always smile
I. V.
What an amazing butchers they have here. I wanted escalope to make Schnitzel he cut it lean and even hammered it flat. Great service and the meat tastes great.
J. S.
Wonderful cafeteria, great big full English breakfast, with friendly and attentive service. I'll definitely be doing back. 👍
F. C.
Lovely well priced shop for all day breakfast/baps or sandwiches.
Great for a day out with kids, theres sand pits and trampoline-esque bouncers. Currently no animal feed, and the place overall is a bit rough around the edges but it's free and relies on donations.
N. C.
Lived in Reading a long while and somehow only stumbled upon this farm shop yesterday. Great little shop and lots of fresh produce. This is a picture of my Goat Madras... Lovely taste and goat is great following 30 minutes in a pressure cooker. Very distinctive flavour. We will be going back. Often.
M. G.
Best breakfast for miles. After 2 awful mornings at Henry street and Dobbies, was such a relief to return here. Can not recommend enough. And the farm shop is something special to
J. L.
Great place for the kids and the farm shop is excellent. Got a pork roast and the difference in quality vs supermarket is night and day. Best crackling I've ever had. It may be more expensive but absolutely worth the quality and happy to support local business. I think I'll be going back atleast once a month.
A. I.
Great outdoor space, neat cafe and butcher shop on site.
M. D. T.
Gutted we didn't get to see the chickens as the group was "too big".. My fave part of the lambing weekends.. This place has massive potential but now paying to get in but no karts and less animals
D. D.
Good for children lots of space for them to run around, play and enjoy the animals. Staff friendly and helpful.
G. L.
Such a lovely little place, a park, small farm, pillow trampolines, cafe and butchers farm shop. We spent the morning here with our toddler, and had a lovely breakfast in the cafe. Highly recommended.
P. A.
Fantastic farm shop, the meat is fresh tender and LOVELY 👍 lockey sausages are the best I've tasted and the qubed minted lamb is just perfect for the BBQ
J. F.
Nice place to stop for coffee, cake or breakfast. Great farm shop. Set in pleasant surroundings. Farm animals and kids play area.
K. N.
A beautiful little farm to visit with kids. I am was surprised with the farm. Lovely to go there and have a bounce on their big bouncy trampoline. The free entry is a bonus (although we can contribute a donation) loved the farm shop - fresh meet and other local stuff. Cafe has good range of food and ice creams, although it’s a shame they close the cafe at 4pm.
Wish the toilets were a bit more cleaner, otherwise it’s a nice day out for kids between 12m to 10 years
k. b.
Lovely farm shop a wide range of fruit and veg and friendly staff.
G. B.
Fresh meat and cheese counters plus a myriad of other goodies.
P. S.
Lockey Farm is a great village butcher in the Arborfield Cross area. They have a good selection of grass fed beef, pork, chicken from their farm on the property (you may see a chicken or three wandering the car park), local cheeses and other local goods.
I have only minor criticisms - I really wish they sold a better range of animal products. It would be a fantastic opportunity for them if they were to carry, for example, grain-finished beef such as U.S.D.A or even Wagyu at the top end, high quality pork such as Iberian Black pigs or even chickens that are fed alternative meals, such as corn or acorn fed. With their prices it is clear they are aiming for the high end of meat eaters, and it would be fantastic to have the ability to purchase higher quality meats on occasion.
N. B.
Ideal for children, lots to see and do. Good play area. Staff friendly and helpful.
M. D. (.
Great butchery and farm shop. In particular the butcher's have great expertise on how best to cook the wide variety of meats and cuts. We go especially for the oxtail.
K. R.
Great traditional butchers, and pretty decent greengrocers. The cheese counter is the best for miles around.
T. L.
We bought a beautiful pork joint twice recently for a Sunday roast. First a shoulder, then a loin rack. The meat is unbelievably good. I'll be buying all my meat from there in future. Can't rate it highly enough!
S.
Lovely place got everything you need for a good day out for the little ones.
m. m.
Lovely little place to get the kids out the house for a couple of hours
D. L.
Great little café amazing farm shop cool animals
P. C.
Great fun for the little ones!
G. B.
Fresh vegetables and milk. Huge range of products. Definitely good place to visit.
C. H.
Does nice sausages was not that impressed by bacon tho.
T. C. Q.
Nice location. Great play area
M. D. T.
Gutted we didn't get to see the chickens as the group was "too big".. My fave part of the lambing weekends.. This place has massive potential but now paying to get in but no karts and less animals
T. S.
Very nice farm, excellent selection of high quality meat and produce
M. S.
Took our toddler here today, and was very impressed - a kind of mini Bucklebury, with a decent cafe. Better still, this time of year, it was free. Toddler was very excited to see and interact with the very friendly animals, then play in the sand pit and on the play equipment. Equipment well maintained, and hand wash facilities provided. Excellent!
I. G.
Really friendly staff and food is excellent!
D. G.
Good quality wise range of meat sourced locally. Very friendly and accommodating team of butchers. The farm shop has other services and features for kids and families but I go primarily for the meat.
K. C.
It is currently being modified and for that reason it was free to walk round the animals and use the play area. Good for my 20 month old no that much to do for 8 yr old though. Maybe the improvements will change that though. Nice cafe though, tables inside and out. Never went to the butcher shop but would next time I visit.
P. P.
Good place to go with young children various farm animals to get close to, small activitiy centre with sandpit. It's £4 per adult, children under two are free. There is also a very good farm shop which also sells local craft beers and ciders as well as a café. There is also a nice shaded area too. Enjoyed our trip with my daughter and grandson who is 10 months.
n. F.
Visited today and was disapointed. The animals looked dirty and were scratching around looking for food to graze on but there was just excrement everywhere.. No grass it was just dust really.. the animals did not look cared for at all. Park is ok and there is no charge but everything is very tired.. appalled at the cafe.. the milk jug was caked in old milk on the inside.. not good... prefer to go to the park next to Henry St garden centre, and their cafe is very nice.. Just needs a bit more TLC and potentially it could be good.
R. F.
Great place to visit with young children or on our own great little shops and how they have a hairdresser.
P. D.
Always a pleasure to shop here. We always order our Christmas turkey and ham from here and it never disappoints. You can also get Barkham Blue cheese. They also make good pasties as well. It is our favourite farm shop in the area.
K. B.
Great local Farm shop that has more than your usual. Butchers are always really friendly and stock pretty much everything you need. You can go look at some animals, go for a drink or a snack and when there is events on go look round the rest of the farm.
R. L.
Lockey farm is a delightful petting farm with shop and coffee shop. There are animals just-beyond-a-fence including pigs, cows (with calves!), lots of chickens and bunnies (our favourite). The 9-hole mini golf is good fun and there is a well equipped adventure playground too. We ate in the cafe, which serves lovely cake as well as full meals (I coveted an all-day-breakfast as it was delivered to another table). Although you pay a couple of quid for the mini-golf, everything is free.
The farm shop is very well stocked too, 90% of it is local produce. We got some fab local cider and porter. Will definitely visit again.
S.
Excellent farm shop - very helpful butcher. Orders are essential for Xmas meat. They've just started selling fresh fish in sealed packs.
There's also a coffee shop - nice coffee!
Well worth a visit...
F. L.
The farm shop here was nice with a good selection and helpful staff, however, I purchased the steak and kidney pie and it was a big mistake... It was awful, basically inedible, and I'm not fussy. So go to the farm shop but do not buy the steak and kidney pie!
C. F.
Usually a nice selection of meat, vegetables and local products. The scotch eggs, although pricey are a wonderful treat. I have found the steaks to be a bit hit and miss. On some occasions I've had the most wonderfully aged meat, whilst on other occasions I've gone elsewhere as the meat was devoid of any marbling.
M. H.
Reasonable price for a petting farm with a bag of animal feed on the way in and plenty of things to keep the kids entertained including bouncy pillows and pedal go carts. The farm shop is impressive too with a great range of products, definitely going there for my next bbq.
J. B.
Glad to see that it is back to donations as I thought that the price was a bit steep before. The only thing I would say is that there was very little shade on a day like today. Perhaps a few umbrellas on the tables would be good. There was a big marquis but wasn't sure if we were allowed to eat in there as there was tape across the entrance. Would have loved my grandson to have a pony ride, but £5 was a bit expensive for me for a short pony ride. The playground is lovely and lots of activities/climbing apparatus. The kids enjoyed it but could do with a tidy up really. My grandson says bring back the tractors!!!
M. T.
Excellent farm shop amazing sausages, having this locally is a life saver! Only downside is that we're now always asked to provide the meat for any bbq that we attend!
N. W.
Great little farm shop / cafe.
I stopped here half way through a 30mile cycle ride to refuel and the ladies were very helpful in making the exact sandwich I wanted.
They even offered to top up my water bottles without being asked - Brilliant!
K. W.
This is the most wonderful and simple place I take my children. It's peaceful, non pressured and with no charge (although we always donate as it's lovely) they get to see pigs, cows, ducks, rabbits and the lovely 'cockdoo' as well as the mini golf and the park area. A really genuine and great place to take the children which is calm and relaxed - just what any parent wants.
M. H.
Fantastic every time we visit
P. C.
Very friendly and accommodating with plenty of room inside and out.
Traditional cafe food with usually a couple of specials on. Fresh, local food often made within a few miles of the cafe.
Worth the trip to walk around and see the animals and go to the farm shop!
P. C.
Lovely place plenty for children to do.
K. O.
Just beautiful!!! Really nice food very reasonably priced, all food freshly made park and crazy golf for the kids also air pillow bouncy thing. Then saw sheep, goats, pigs, donkeys, cows guinea pigs, rabbits and chickens. Highly reccomend
J. M.
Nice play area for the kids, farm feels sparse in November, kids not as interested in animals as they're spaced out and requires a short walk (passed the sand pit and play area) to see most of them, by which time the kids' attention has been stolen. Café staff helpful but café needs updating. Quite basic.
Z. S.
Nice few hours out. Overpriced for the size (loses one star) and the no food rule unless purchased from the shop on site means bringing your own picnic is off the agenda (loses another star).
If they thought this through a bit it could definitely be much improved.
G. D.
Free to enter but donations accepted. £5 to take along ride for about 5 mins. There are signs that say only food purchased there can be consumed there but everybody had their own picnics with them.
J. F.
Love Lockey Farm. Me and husband go often for a round of golf. Admission price was fine for us, as it included a free round of golf each, and a tea/coffee each. Lovely. Stroll around and see the animals, and the birds are beautiful.
Farm shop is absolutely lovely, excellent quality.
H. L.
Great place for kids, food are great and prices are reasonable.
S. S.
I initially thought this farm was expensive for what it is, £14+ for a family of four (two toddlers). It’s relatively small but the kids loved everything. There’s some small electric tractors that take a pound coin for a few mins, crazy golf, those big bouncing areas, a zip line, a little park and it’s all surrounded by animal enclosures you can reach into and feed. There’s a coffee shop next door and the entrance itself sells toys, sweets and snacks. There’s also a farm shop that I didn’t get a chance to look at. I went mid-week on a hot day and it was pretty much empty. I left feeling that we got our moneys worth and would be happy to return
H. S.
I love the Farm Shop at Lockey Farm. We know the butchers and they'll go to any lengths to get what you request. Yes the meat is more pricey than the supermarkets but there is no comparison in quality, service and getting what you want.
They also have a fabulous range of gluten free sausages, grill steaks and Lorne sausage.
It's a highlight of my week going there :-)
C. G.
Lovely little farm. Free entry. Donation only. Had sheep, cows, lamas, pigs, goats and rabbits. Great cafe and playground area. Gets busy so order food in advance. Good farmship with local produce.
L. M.
Lots of good local and British produce. Vegetables, meat, fruit and dry goods as well as a delicatessen make this a good place to shop for a specific meal or general groceries. The selection isn't always the largest and the prices can be a little more, but you do know you're getting quality meat.
J. B.
Nice suprise, cafe with outside seating. Also great to take children, large area with sandpit and farmyard animals. On site farmers store with fresh produce. Good parking.
T. M.
Free farm and playground and a nice cafe
Watch out for wasps though
S. C.
I go to Lockey Farm Shop for meat and cheese although I know they sell so much more. I have yet to find a place anywhere in the country that sells meat to match the quality of this butchers. The butchers know how to cut and prepare meat in the proper old fashioned way. And they know exactly which farm and field it came from. It does not get any better than this.
P. G.
Excellent butchers shop here, locally sourced meats, creative cuts and preparations (kebabs etc), goat meat too! And John the butcher is a star - keen to share his knowledge and ensure customer satisfaction.
D. L.
Great little café amazing farm shop cool animals
D. J. W.
Busy little cafe there, good breakfast menu and light lunch menu.
Very good butchers, quality meat raised on the farm. Places to entertain the children on site.
M. G.
Lovely little secret this. Butcher, bakery/pies. Cheese shop. Fruit and veg. Frozen gubbins.
Would like to see more cuts of meat in butchers as opposed to simple usual suspects and perhaps a wider selection of wines. I'm really just nitpicking. Great little shop.
E. S.
Not many animals and it looks very run down. A good day out for children in the sandpit, especially as it's free to enter. However, it isn't very interesting for adults. The farm shop looked very nice, however!
R. D.
Lockey Farm has really been improved in recent months. Much cleaner and the huge inflatable cushions are great fun for small children. The cafe and farm shop still sell the same high quality local produce.
M. D.
A brilliant farm shop, a cosy reasonably-priced cafe, kids play areas and a "petting zoo" to boot, what not to like ? The butchers in the farm shop can even handle special cut and requests. Just great.
J. H.
The new edition of the bouncing pillow will keep kids entertained. I have teo young boys and they bounced for ages and played in sand put and park. There is an entry fee of 5 pound now including for children over 2 but this does include animal feed to feed goats sheep pigs ect which kids always like and a hot drink ...also can play crazy golf ..is a cafe that does food too can easily spend a few hours here if you make the most of it. Still feel slightly over priced to be paying same for adults and kids. A negative was that there was far too many wasps and whilst i was there one boy got stung as there very drowsy although nature cant be helped clearing up of areas when people leave things would help and maybe think of some traps or something. Other than that good and brilliant farm shop too x
T. S.
Very nice farm, excellent selection of high quality meat and produce
G. G.
Always go there for fresh, good quality meat.
P. A.
Popped in for a coffee and slice of cake this afternoon, nice country side location, good area to let the kids burn off some energy. The coffee was ok, the cake was great and the service was brilliant. Will be going back for more.
m. H.
Lovely shop with amazing food . Butchers shop well stocked and looks amazing . Good cafe and plenty for the kids to do ... play ground and small animals to amuse them ... allow a few hours to wonder around .
C. H.
Great farm shop, butchers and cafe. Also had a free play area, petting farm, and paid-for crazy golf. Cafe and shop ate both very good value and always have quality produce.
m. m.
Lovely little place to get the kids out the house for a couple of hours
B. F.
Great place to bring little kids. They have stopped charging so you really need to donate and keep this fantastic family run business going, otherwise it might not be there next time toy want to use it.
B. N.
Love this place. Take the kids around the little farm. The farm shop who sell really good meat and other stuff I go there for.
G. B.
Fresh vegetables and milk. Huge range of products. Definitely good place to visit.
S. A.
Love Lockey farm I go there a lot with friends meet up for a coffee then visit the shop for fruit, veg & lots more. Well worth a visit. Also lots to do with the children
S. S.
Very friendly. Had a lovely omelette and coffee which was reasonably priced. Very good place to take kids, loads to play on. Also a farm shop
Z. M.
Love this place, family friendly, amazing quality local produce. Highly recommend.
R. C.
Excellent local farm shop has everything you need. Good fresh products.
K. T.
Nice place but the crazy golf lookeda bit tired.
J. T.
Absolutely free attraction, playground, plenty of animals and space to run about, picnic benches, sandpit. Nice little cafe which gets quite crowded but has a lovely range of food.
R. P.
Excellent farm shop with great meat counter. Best dry cure bacon and pork steaks.
S. B.
Very good, butchers, greengrocers, horse feed and pet store all under one roof, ample parking, separate cafe which I look forward to trying another day.
Z. N.
Beautiful pieces of meat, organically grown veg, and brilliant staff. And to top it off, a lovely mini zoo for families to play.
E. A.
If you want great meat at great prices, Lockey Farm is for you! Great variety of meat and convenience food as well.
C. H.
Does nice sausages was not that impressed by bacon tho.
E. S.
Nice place to be with the kids, it has plenty of playgrounds. A bit dull and neglected though, toilets didn't have toilet paper and hand drier was out of order.
P. C.
Great fun for the little ones!
D. P.
Nice atmosphere nice pets we very enjoyed it, but we are giving 4 stars due to the staff in the cafe shop where he serves was so rude and not polite to us.
T. S.
Great farm shop and range of produce. Rest is just not what it used to be since expanding as poorly executed. Case of better sticking to your knitting!
T. C. Q.
Nice location. Great play area
D. A. H.
Really great place for small children. Good attractions and lots of animals.
Worth peaking in the farm shop as well.
B. D.
Always a lovely experience, doesn't matter what time of year. Please contribute to upkeep as it would be sad to loose it. Great cafe, not to be missed
G. H.
Lovely range of goodies from frozen croissants to fresh meat to yummy fudges to fresh veg to gluten free pasta. Brilliant.
A. B.
Nice little farm shop with a good selection, however I feel that the meat on the butchers counter is a tad expensive 🤔
R. W. M.
Fantastic afternoon with my 2 children, niece and baby newphew.
Super friendly staff in the cafe and the best bit was that it was not over crowded !
Definitely will be returning.
M. M.
Staff very friendly. Cafe serves good inexpensive food. Farm animals are easily accessible even with a buggy.
S. R.
Great farmshop. Excellent traditional butchers, good selection of cheeses and even raw dog food.

H. M.
Great food. Fantastic coffee. Adorable farm animals and wonderful service what more could you want.
L. H.
Mostly used to be free and rely on donations but now you have to pay for parts of it. Pricing seemed a little steep but kids seemed to enjoy it.
a. e.
I love it here! Great for all differnt farm animals, hours of fun playing and the cafes good too!

H. S.
Great place for a coffee and cake. Plus has a farm shop as well for your locally sourced products.

Used to love this place until they fenced it off. I dont mind paying a small fee, but was much better when you could sit and have a coffee and let the kids run around
N. H.

C. P.
Lovely little place for some coffee and cake with a great view
K. H.
I was very concerned about a sheep that was lying on it's back. I did go and tell someone and waited for quite a while but nobody came, it must have been at least half an hour but unfortunately we had to go. I do hope someone came and sorted the poor thing out.
L. C.

Just had a pizza from the new pizza oven - it was absolutely delicious (squisito!) Gorgeous light fluffy dough, cooked to perfection. Fantastic toppings (highly recommend the Kicca pizza - the sausage on it is made at Lockey). Staff were lovely too, special props to the pizzaiolo who was super helpful with advice and told us the inspiration for the pizza names. Definitely coming back. Grazie di tutto! 😊
