Reviews of The Balloon Tree Farmshop & Cafe
P. S.
We came here to pick strawberries and raspberries with my 1 year old son and the sheer vastness of the fields was a pleasant surprise. Plenty of beautiful berries to be picked despite the obvious popularity of the place. The fruit was absolutely delicious and a glorious colour! We paid just over £12 for a large punnet of strawberries and a small raspberries which is more than supermarket prices but the price was definitely worth it and on par with the quality, as well as the experience of picking your own.
If you go to the tea room be prepared to spend money. We had 1 kid’s sandwich, 1 toasty, 1 chips and 2 coffees and it was close to £30 which although the food was nice, it was a little too expensive for the portions given.
The farm shop is absolutely beautiful and have a range of unique and interesting produce and lovely gifts. The range of preserves was amazing and the deli was extremely appealing.

I visited the cafe with friends of mine and was very happy with the experience. I had a full English breakfast which was lovely. There was a bit of a mix up with our order but this was quickly sorted and we were offered a drink as an apology which was nice. Enjoyed some cake after - absolutely delicious! They have a great range to choose from and they all looked gorgeous but in the end I went for a cheesecake which was light and yummy.

Lovely Café and Farm shop just off the A166 at Gate Helmsley. Quality food and drink in lovely surroundings and plenty of outdoor seating for dining out on those hot summer days. Also plenty of tables inside if outside is not for you. Not the cheapest, but it is quality food so you get what you pay for! Very popular, so expect a small queue at busy times. Definitely worth a visit!

I came across this place on a trip back from Filey. It is a little gem of a place, with good breakfast and lunch options. The bacon was really good quality. I also had a cappuccino which was well made and full of flavour from the coffee beans. The onsite farmshop had a good range of local products and plenty of pumpkins for this time of year

A real find. We stopped in both on the way to the seaside and on the way back too. I ate what is probably the best steak pie I have ever eaten. Full of beautiful gravy with very lean steak and lovely potatoes. I wish I had bought a spare one for my tea. I walked through the restaurant and saw the fantastic looking desserts in the chiller and almost decided to try and fit one in. A real hidden gem and one will always be visiting on my way to the seaside. Excellent.

Safe, clean, yummy, fresh, lovely staff. Loved my coffee, food. Love my veg and fruit and all purchased things from farm shop. My girl rode with hubby on little track, £3. I love this place and always come back 💗

A very popular venue. Packed with mums, youngsters and seniors. Excellent menu and pleasant service. Play area, lots of parking and best of all a wide and excellent menu. The prices were good and the quality and amount were admirable. Well done the Balloon Tree.

We were there for cake. And the half n half options were a wonderful idea. The cake itself was lovely, soft, not dry and not overly rich with the buttercream.
However, we couldn't resist the vegetables on offer, which turned out to be a bit tastier than supermarket food. Even my kids commented :)
We didn't try the cafe, but the shop has an excellent selection available. We will be back.

Stopped at the balloon tree whilst on route to our holiday. Had a quick coffee and cake which was really nice. There was a queue to be seated at the café and the order took a while to arrive but the waitress was lovely and it was quite busy. The Farm shop looked good and there was a large children's play area which kept the toddler entertained.
J. R.
Ham, chips and egg nothing special. Eggs not quite runny what appeared to be frozen chips ham was good but should be for the price. Coffee delicious. Tap water it a sad looking glass. Something lacking from the whole experience. Perhaps it's becoming a bit canteen like....living on past reputation Always busy tho. Sadly not a fan. All for just a tad under £30 too!!!!! 👎
C. C.
Called in for a snack and a cold drink on an extremely hot day. The staff were lovely considering there were 11 of us very hot and tired walkers. Quickly bringing jugs of cold water and glasses to the table and taking the order. Great place will visit again
P. B.
Went on a Sunday to pick Strawberries.
Freshest Strawberries I've seen in a long time. Loads to pick. Well priced and as always no visit to The Balloon Tree isn't complete without a trip to the farm house shop. Great selection of foods
F. K.
Was served by the lovey Ellis after a nice afternoon of picking strawberries. Treated myself to a great coffee, well made by our young waiter. Lovely service all around, thanks for a great day guys!

Could do with some more wasp control in the gardens if possible. Service was ok. Coffee was not great but food was nice but very expensive. Fruit pickiing fuun for the kids but also expensive. Could do with some more placvees to sit for disabled people
P. H.
Absolutely loved it here. Cheese and chive scome was delicious. Staff lovely and lovely surroundings. Shop was lovely too. Will be going back very soon.
J. H.
Went to the cafe and farm ship. Friendly staff. Toasted sandwich with mushrooms was nice after a little seasoning. Malteaser cake was fantastic - very indulgent.
M. R.
My boyfriend and I had a lovely full breakfast, the ingredients were local and cooked to perfection. Definitely go again.
V. l.
Lovely place for a family breakfast. The food was great, the service was friendly and helpful and there's a big garden with play equipment for the children.
M. B.
Fun place to go check out in summer or autumn. Get to pick the fruits or veggies ready to harvest at the time and buy them fresh. Or simply spend some quiet time in a farm scenery seated in or out, with a good meal and drink at the farm's cafe. Well maintained, cute and perfect!
C. W.
Lovely place, did our pumpkin picking there this year. Even though it was raining the boys had an excellent time, followed by some lunch in the cafe. The tomato soup was delicious and just what was needed after being outside.
I can imagine that the place will be even more fun when the sun is out, we will be back!
C. A.
Always lovely food and good service. There is also an excellent farm shop.
S. C.
Love this place - wish they would open in the evening as there is hardly any good restaurants in this area
M. M.
A lovely breakfast for my hubby and friends and delicious scone for me. They do poached eggs but not scrambled odd!
P. J.
We called in for a light bite, with my mum.
We were welcomed by friendly and happy staff. The cafe was well set out, Clean and tidy. The menu had a varied choice.
We just chose toasted fruit teacakes, a latte and a tea. All were very nicely presented, the teacake was lovely with plenty of butter.
Will definitely be calling again.
S.

beautiful cafe and farm shop. we stopped of on the way from murton Park for afternoon tea, absolutely delicious, we sat in the garden, the kiddies played in the play ground, absolutely perfect for a sunday afternoon. lovely products in the farm shop
P. R.
We had a large group visit for breakfast on Sunday, the whole team at the Balloon Tree were so friendly and helpful, the breakfast was fantastic plus we bought some excellent produce in the shop
P. W.
Two full English breakfast were excellent and my partner said her cup of tea was delicious. Will definitely go again.
C. L.
A bit on the pricier side, but for the sheer quality you can't fault it. The cafe is also a lovely little spot and there's even a milk vending machine stocked with fresh Jersey milk
H. C.
Lovely couple of hours, food was just as we liked staff very welcoming and service was good. We will definitely visit again.
J. M.
Visited today for second time.Had outdoor table which was nicely shaded.Order was taken within 10 mins and drinks arrived promptly.Shame the food order took 40 mins.Order was only for 2 sandwiches.Had to ask waitress where they were. She brought them out after another 5 mins.I would have let this go but as this is second visit with order issues will probably not return.Food quite good if a bit pricey
b. t.
Nice cafe
Had the poached egg on sourdough
Would recommend this as very tasty and quite filling
This is a place to visit for both the farm shop and also as a place to have a bite and a drink
D. L.
Great place to stop off for a mixture of retail therapy and food & drink.
The shop offers both fresh produce, packaged food and a wide range of gifts etc.
Some of the fresh meats etc are a bit pricey but are of high quality.
Staff in the café are polite, efficient and very friendly. Again some items on the menu are on the higher side of average in terms of price but everything is good quality.
Overall a very pleasant mixed retail & refreshment destination.
M. O.
We use the farmshop as a half way stop for a wc and food and drink in our journey to the Dale's quiet often.
M. F.
Excellent place to visit and picking strawberry
Had really good day out
Especially at the end when had cold nice milk
Enjoyed alot
M. S.
Popped in as travelling in the area from York to Bridlington. Absolutely gorgeous place, loads of searing, nice big play area for the kids and super food with big quantities.
o. h.
Great place with a great cafe. Visited with family and kids had a great day out picking fruit and having fun in the play area.
C. R.
My wife & I had a first visit to the Farm Shop after a ride to Stamford Bridge. We went through the first entrance which turned out to be the Shop. This was well laid out with a good display of fruit & veg' etc. but to get to the restaurant we had to exit & walk around the outside of the building. We were handed menus after a wait then had another wait before ordering a tea, a latte, a fairy cake & a warmed fruit scone. After another wait the tea, fairy cake & latte arrived without sugar. I had to prompt the a waitress about the sugar & the scone. We were none to pleased about the service & also felt the prices were relatively high.
S. W.
Food very good, shop excellent range of foodstuffs.
M. M.
Expensive to go to cafe but well worth it lovely home made food whith best quality highy remend going
L. L.
We took our 2 grandsons out for lunch and then to play in the children's play area. The cafe is nice and service was good. The food was ok but quite expensive for what we had. The ladies toilet floor could do with a thorough clean as it looked rather grubby.
P. M.
Beautiful breakfast, fantastic service in a lovely location.
M. S.
Delicious turkey dinner with all the trimmings, beautifully cooked and well presented. Wonderful red cabbage and lovely stuffing with cranberries. A jug of gravy so able to have as much as I needed. Unfortunately I didn't have time to wander around the farmhouse, but what I saw of the veg was a colourful array of fresh veg and I'm told there are cakes to please the eye and the taste buds. Take a chance when you visit as I understand no bookings are taken in the restaurant.
E. B.
Lovely cafe and shop, easy parking, friendly staff
J. N.
This place is a great place to eat. Friendly staff, great service and food. The staff will do everything they can to accommodate you. Love it here and will go back time and time again
S. F.
Had an amazing day picking strawberrys! The PYO area was really quite and the strawberrys are some of the best i have ever had!
M. A.
Very reasonably priced for fresh fruit, especially when you consider what shop bought fruit costs. It's also a nice experience. We didn't get a chance to eat in the cafe on our visit but they do have a wonderful little shop. Be aware, they advertise on the website that they allow animals, however, they don't allow them on the pick your own trail.
B. H.
Busy little place , a good full english and a craking Farm shop ! My Grandma loved the little hamper i bought for her birthday !
R. H.
Fantastic cafe, food and service, possibly a little pricy
L.
Expensive, but very pleasant stop off point on the way up to Bridlington Beach and they now so Sunday dinners apparently.
a. s.
Fantastic farm shop & great cafe that is extremely clean and tidy. We love to visit this gem. Lovely outdoor seating for the warmer weather.

I enjoyed picking up my own fruit 😍
Highly recommended 👍🏻
G. B.
Lovely friendly cafe. Had tea, coffee, scone & mince pie- all delicious.
There is also an excellent farm shop there selling very good quality food, including a delicatesen alcohol & gifts. I could have spent a lot in that shop if I had not been restrained! Also Christmas trees for sale as it was early December.
M. M.
Standard garden centre style menu. Good quality but very limited. Pleasant environment
K. T.
A wait for food because they were busy, but everyone was very helpful, friendly and efficient
T. B.
If there were more stars, I'd give them. Absolutely beautiful food, service and surroundings 💚☘🥂
L. A.
Just lovely. I drank 2 pots of lovely unusual 'Cloud catcher' fruit tea. A pale pink concoction of cherry, coconut, kiwi and apple. Such a lovely fragrance. The toasties were very tasty and the surroundings were lovely for a catch up with my two friends. Perfect. Bought some tea to enjoy at home.
G. G.
We popped into The Balloon Tree for a pre-Christmas lunch. We were offered inside seating but chose one of the heated outdoor pods.. the food was great and service was excellent our two young grandsons were with us and they really enjoyed the playground at the side of our pod.. altogether a thoroughly enjoyable lunch 😋👍
I. G. J.
Lovely place to have breakfast lunch etc, most pleasant staff.
S. P.
Food great, facilities outside spaces and has a small play area
s. w.
Friendly helpful staff, even though it was almost closing time it wasnt a problem to get a really nice cup of tea, the cakes looked lovely!!!!!!
E. L.
There is often a queue here, but when you eat you will see why!
Lovely food, beautifully presented. Helpful staff. Terrific cakes. Tables inside and out. Clean toilets. Plenty of parking (overflow car park for busy days).
Shop sells great selection of deli products as well as local fruit and veg.
I can't seem to find anything bad to say about Balloon Tree!
J. B.
Great little place for food and strawberry picking xx
N. B.
Cafe always enjoy a lovely breakfast when we are over that way lovely fresh toast to die for very good food shop as well selling great produce
C.
Amazing vegan vegetable cream soup! Very impressed as usually veg options can be a bit boring 😂super friendly service too
P. R.
Always nice food and pleasant staff great farm shop.
R. S.
Fantastic shop for fresh local produce. Gotta visit again soon. I bought a bunch of fresh seedless plum tomatoes from the veg section and they were the tastiest I have ever eaten.
J. B.
Excellent food and service but shame about the wasps in the outdoor seating area.. Need some wasp catchers...
G. G.
Lovely friendly staff. Food good. Nice location
A. R.
We had lunch in the cafe. A little bit expensive but worth it. The food is excellent and very good quality. The staff are friendly and efficient. The tables are well spaced and hand sanitizer stations are available. Felt comfortable with the Covid arrangements still in place. The shop is well worth a visit as well. Again, a little bit expensive but worth it for a special treat. We will certainly visit again.
B. W.
The shop is good but the pick your own is devastated totally neglected sadly the staff have gone back to the EU hopefully some UK people will rise to the challenge
M. W.
Nice place for coffee and a cake after a walk. Also does full meals. Attached to a farm shop for added interest.
D. W.
Our go to place for breakfast on route to the coast. Lovely food, reasonably priced and always spotlessly clean. Also a lovely gift and farm shop on site.
a. m.
Beautiful to visit. Plenty to do for every age. Food good.
H. B.
I called in for a coffee and scone this morning. Both were delicious and the service was great, as always.
A. H.
Went with family for an afternoon of Pumpkin picking, the actual pumpkin picking was good fun and I would recommend.
However our experience in the cafe afterwards left non of us impressed. No cutlery with the food, no sugar with the hot drinks, after asking for sugar it was eventually brought over as we finished eating. Dirty, and I mean really dirty covered in food, high chair given to our baby. Bit concerning under general circumstances but worst still considering covid, it clearly hadn't been cleaned at all since its last use, table section covered in food and the straps were caked in something crusty too. My boyfriend had to ask for this to be cleaned. The staff weren't particularly friendly either. So I wouldn't return to the cafe in all honesty.
S. B.
Fantastic produce in the pick your own fields and the farm shop , and delicious food in the cafe . Happy helpful staff. We loved the drive your own car ride and pumpkins were reasonably priced ..fab
T. F.
My son was so excited for strawberry picking. I enjoyed fresh grocery. Lovely place.
A. K.
We visited here and had a lovely lunch. Clean cafe with good service. At busy times you are required to queue outside but staff try to get you seated as soon as possible. It has a varied menu including a specials board, we were stuck for what to choose as there were many things we'd have liked to have tried. The farm shop is lovely to walk around and we also booked advance tickets to pick your own pumpkins. A nice place to visit, will definitely go again.
S. A.
We spent a lovely afternoon here. My little one really enjoyed picking and eating the strawberries. Great staff, a well-organized farm shop and tasty food. It won’t be long before we are back.
C. H.
Great place to stop for breakfast on the way to the east coast.
C. C.
A really lovely family day out P.Y.O.. Easily booked a slot that morning, ventured over and picked plenty of beautiful strawberries, gooseberries and rhubarb. Nicely set out, great fun for the children and they loved driving the jeeps around at the end. We even got to use some of our own pots to avoid too much waste. All were delicious, but strawberries in particular, better than anything I've had from the local shops or market. And the shop, play area and café looked popular too... The boys were desperate to go to the play area... Next time, it won't be long before we're back. Friendly, helpful staff too. Great stuff.
V. P.
Great stop on our way from Leeds to the coast. The shop has everything you need for a quick lunch or for a top class dinner at home. Wine, beers and spirits as well.
H. W.
Good food just a bit pricey. Polite & friendly staff. Disappointed that you can't book a table, however thankfully we weren't queuing for too long. Farm & gift shop is a definite visit too :-)
P. R.
Amazing bacon sandwich
Almost too busy for its own good
Brilliant farm shop too
L. M.
Lovely breakfast of poached eggs and sourdough toast plus a luscious slice of carrot cake ! The staff were extremely helpful too.
H. B.
Just enjoyed a wonderful breakfast in a very friendly, welcoming and clean cafe. Staff very helpful and still busy at 9.30am and customer service remains excellent. Highly recommended
A. K. (.
Ah wish I went in the shop, it looks great! Comment for cafe only. Lovely staff! That's the important part. Accommodating for all diets and provided patient service to a large group. Credit to the staff and the chef. My friend had an issue with her dish... Not sure what but was quickly mitigated personally by the chef. Can't please everyone's taste but the service definitely did. Everyone was happy. Thanks guys!
R. R.
Very expensive but it's all locally sourced love that I can walk here and that I can bring the dogs. Think some staff members could be friendlier but a young girl came over and asked to fuss the dogs. She was very nice. Sanitisers available around the play area and entrances good systems in place. Always pop in to the shop if it's an occasion as the gifts are great and recyclable cards.
A. W.
Lovely breakfast, staff all very polite. Nice atmosphere, we will be back.
S. B.
Excellent lovely friendly staff covid19 followed fully all staff wore masks. Food really lovely expensive though. Lovely play area for the children with a big Wendy house a train and a digger area. The family who run this have come a long long way and achieved fantastic things there's a pick your own and a wonderful farm shop with absolutely loads of different items lots of special things to purchase deffo will go back and highly recommend
C. Y. (.
Amazing food, great atmosphere and doggies welcome!!
D. H.
We ate lunch here on a Saturday, we only used the farmshop and sat outside to eat our Hot Roast Pork sandwiches. The food was wondeful and fresh and the service was amazing. Would return to see what the cafe food is like. Highly recommended farm shop.
A. T.
Fantastic full English breakfast served by friendly and attentive staff. Could became a regular
S. W.
Breakfast is always good! Like to try all the different teas!
J. S.
Nothing is too much trouble. Outside eating arrangements are very well thought out, we'll want to eat out all year round just for the novelty.
P. C.
Excellent. Good food. Friendly staff. Good farm shop. Also Pick your Own fruit. Good outside play area for children. Also outside sitting area if it's nice weather. Recommended
N. L.
Great place. Nice cafe, food is lovely. Grocery section spot on ( fresh profuce) and the shop has a really nice selection of traditional foods, also variety of Italian tasties and some others thrown in. Staff are excellent 👌
L. B.
Very organized, staff were helpful and pleasant. We went fruit picking lots of space. Felt very safe. We took our 9 year old grandson who like the open space, the insect life and after washing it enjoyed the delicious raspberries and strawberries.
D. P.
Absolutely top quality! Although it was very busy we were seated swiftly and our order taken and delivered with big smiles! We often order a meal and share it and are very impressed if they bring a spare plate without being asked - but here, our lovely waitress, Charlie, plated our meal onto two plates for us!
P. G.
Great farm shop and lovely cafe...lots of choice and good service.
H. M.
Lovely children's play area with lots of tables for parents to watch the kids while enjoying some lovely food, pyo and jeep driving round the back was great fun and lovely select ion of delicious food in the farm shop. Staff were v friendly too
A. T.
Unfortunately the queue for the cafe was very big when we tried to visit as a stop off on our way back from the coast. We did however venture into the farm shop for a treat, but were disappointed that we couldn't get into the cafe.
M. W.
Fabulous farm shop with plenty of selection from local produce and further afield.
R. B.
Relaxing surroundings and very good service with friendly staff. Toasted teacake was very nice and excellent coffee. Looking around the full breakfasts looked very tempting for a return visit as did the large selection of homemade cakes. Always enjoy visiting also for the very wide selection of cards, wrapping paper, gifts and food in the shopping area with many interesting and high quality items. All 5 stars. The only negative is on the times we cycle there is the cycle rack which has recently been changed to a metal bar to suspend bikes from by their seats. Although more secure than the previous low racks and a notice offers bike locks on loan, the height of the bar means it is impossible to lock your bike to using one of the high level thicker shorter security locks without the bike being completely suspended.
R. H.
Really nice coffee. Great place for a stop off. We ordered during a busy period and had a lengthy wait just for coffee but kids loved playing area, especially the digger. We had to queue due to Covid which is great that places are taking precautions. Would advise that staff man entrance more closely as some people just walked past queuing customers.
R. S.
What a smashing place to call in en-route to Filey! Well signposted and plenty of parking.
We just wanted a coffee and tea to refresh ourselves and we were really surprised to see what was available.
There's a brilliant farm shop with fresh produce, a gift shop, children's play area visible from the cafe, pick your own fruit and an animal section so you can see goats etc.
The staff in the cafe were really pleasant and helpful and the service was great. The food was delicious too!
The ladies were nice and clean.
I'd definitely go again to Balloon Tree Farm for a specific visit to enjoy everything there and take children too.
G. C.
Lovely find on the way to Whitby. Good service and wholesome food. Friendly service. Busy at peak times.
R. B.
A wonderful experience pumpkin picking with my son and friends. Everything was well planned out, ensuring safety and cleanliness. The cafe is so lovely serving delicious food :)
S. F.
A great place to meet outdoors with our young Grandchildren. They love having the play area & the little house. We adults can enjoy a drink with cake.
H. W.
Fab food, lots of spread out outdoor space with decent parasol covered tables in lovely surroundings. Good gift options as well as food (premium prices) in the farm-shop. Well organised for Covid-19 safety.
S. G.
Beautiful restaurant with lovely views, we went twice for the cook breakfast whilst on holiday, delicious both times. We purchased items in the farm shop, again not disappointed. Well worth a visit, in the summer seating outside and walks nearby for dogs.
K. J.
What an amazing farm shop and restaurant, we went here for some afternoon tea and cake and it was such a lovely setting. The restaurant is really really nice with amazing waiting staff who were so nice and friendly, the cake was such good quality as well. There is lots of space and sitting outside in the sun was so nice, with kids as well it would be great as there is lots of outdoor space as well and play area.
The farm shop has some really nice food and drink as well, lots of local produce and baked goods as well as more commercial items but all of impeccable quality.
You should absolutely check this place out for a nice meal in the summer sunshine
N. M.
Went on the 13th September, waited outside for over 5 minutes til someone came out to seat us despite the fact the cafe was very quiet, we ordered and that was brought out fine, upon leaving I went to pay, I stood at the counter a good few minutes while 3 members of staff were stood behind it, not impressed with the service, I was close to just walking out as they clearly weren't in a hurry to take my money
i. L.
I know it's always great but today too busy. Waited in a long queue and gave up. Great coffee smell though. Will try again.
M. T.
Nice place to go on a beautiful day. The play area was great and the drinks from the cafe were fab. The pick your own was brilliant. Got a load of lovely raspberries and strawberries. The only 2 negatives were we went mid afternoon so a lot of the ripe strawberries had been picked and it was so hot in the polytunnel picking what ripe strawberries we could. My advice would be go earlier in the day!!!
H. P.
Always love this place. Great pick your own fruit and amazing cafe. Only downside was the very long wait for food. We had been advised of this, which was fine, but the staff had promised to bring some bread to put the little ones on until the meal arrived, and it never arrived. Won't stop us going back though.
K. B.
We had great fun picking fruit, good selection of options at the café and very friendly and helpful service. Brilliant play area for the children.
R. W.
The Balloon Tree Farmshop is chock full of beautiful, delicious products - from jams, biscuits and cakes to cheeses, meats and chutneys. All locally sourced and all wonderful. The cafe attached to the Farmshop is also fantastic with a great range of delicious, hearty meals (today's special of sausage, bacon and cheese quiche was a winner) and a fab selection of cakes and treats. The only reason I'm giving it four stars instead of five is that there is often a wait for the cafe at the weekends and I've felt a bit ignored when this has happened (no-one coming to let me know that we'll be served soon or what the waiting time is). But if you're more patient than I am, or coming at a less busy time, you'll have a fantastic experience I'm sure!
G.
Visited the cafe, very well organised to combat the virus! From one household sit inside, 2 households sit outside, blankets provided. Oh, and the shop had a very good selection of veg., biggest parsnips I've seen! Enjoy.
G. T.
Great place for coffee or lunch. Lovely food and super service. Good value for money.
A. G.
Awesome place. Great for the kids. Table service is often slow and mistakes were made both times I've been. Food pretty good. Lovely produce in the shop
n. b.
Visited in October!! Great food, great atmosphere, and very friendly staff!! Farm shop was excellent - so well stocked!! Bought my mum a beautiful bird mug, which she absolutely adores!! Must try the fruit picking when I come here next!!
G. D.
Lovely breakfast and very good staff
H. S.
Lovely food and good value. Good place for families. Indoor spacious and looks like there is a separate room that could be used for a small party. Nice outdoor area with play area for older children 4 plus years around. Nice and shady during the sunnier days.
K. B.
Just had a jubilee special, it was delicious.

Popped in for brunch but due to it being father's Day it was very busy so the wait for food was longer then normal. When the food arrived it was very nice as tasty. There is a outdoor seating area with a children's play area, which keeps the kids occupied.
C. M.
Expensive for what it is. Too much clutter and non food items in the middle section of the shop make for a very awkward shopping experience. Not overly impressed with selection of foods available to buy.
S. K.
Good range of goods and not too busy but very expensive indeed! Other similar farm shops in the area are much better value in my opinion.
P. T.
Great selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. The shop is a treasure trove of gifts and gastric delights. The cafe and play area is also well worth a visit
A. M.
Lovely farm shop and cafe. Enjoyed the food we ordered, but they REFUSED to serve what we really wanted off the menu - a lighter breakfast.
Sorry, this is not acceptable. After all, we are paying customers and our money pays their wages. They should treat us as valued customers and meet our requests.
J. P.
Always excellent food, service and cakes! The staff work really hard to make everyone welcome even when it's busy, as it often is.
S. S.
Pick your fruit.. Enjoyed and its worth.
N. M.
An excellent experience for kids - especially in the summer. Can get very muddy underfoot in the autumn/winter months, but still very much worth a visit.
The cafe serves great food and drink and you can buy all sorts of local produce in the farm shops.
M. L.
Restored my faith in them. Superb Steak pie, the Balloon Tree food back to its best. Service though was very slow, from order to getting the food. Looks like enough staff waiting on, but think it's the kitchen! Food was good when we got it.
W. C.
Passed many times and wish we'd called in sooner. A great little cafe perfect when decent weather. Helpful friendly staff, great food but don't expect a massive selection. What you do get though is very tasty. The shop looks good although we only bought the Pick Your Own strawberries. They were very good too. Will definitely be calling in again and worth the drive from Leeds.
O. M.
A great day out for the whole family. Delicious food in the restaurant with great service, a well-stocked farm shop, gorgeous little goats and pick-your-own fruit. The strawberries are the best I've ever tasted!
L. A.
First visit and well worth stopping to explore. Fabulous fresh produce, preserves, fresh meat, pasties and pies, bread and fresh Jersey milk. Superb.
i. m.
Excellent food, service, value. Good disabled access and parking with wheelchair available for customers.
S. R.
Great selection of PYO and little ones enjoyed the play area. Cafe was very busy due to the glorious weather, so instead we bought some made to order sandwiches from the deli counter in the farm shop and had a picnic on the grass. Great selection of fresh produce and products at reasonable prices. All in all lovely day out, would highly recommend :)
M. D.
Family favourite of ours. Easy to get to, not far from York. The fruit picking is great as there's so much variety and choice. My kids love the goats you can feed. There's also a cafe with a great outdoor play area. We usually buy a lot from the deli and butchers counters as well as fresh veg and fruit. Best pork pies we have ever had!
T. H.
Amazing breakfast although will ask for an extra egg and bread n butter next time. Still the best breakfast I've ever had 😁👍👌
D.
Called in for a pot of tea and appreciate that staff always bring hot water for a top up. The cafe was packed (a coach in the car park!), so I sat outside at tables in the sun. Yes the friendly staff found me and I enjoyed my cuppas. A popular venue for good reason
A.
Lovely warm friendly place. as you would expect from Yorkshire folks. Great parking and good selection of homemade and locally sourced produce.
Good for breakfast and snacks.. Great collection of cakes. Suitable for kids and the elderly
A.
We went with our 3 children on a hot sunny day, we went for the PYO strawberries but came back with raspberries and blueberries. Even though we went a bit later in the day there were enough strawberries to go around and they were delicious. The kids enjoyed picking the fruit and running up and down the fields as its very spacious. Enjoyed by all. We're going to make this an annual activity. This year we have to pre book a slot, so waiting for sunnier days.
V. C.
It's a nice place. We sat outside as it was a lovely day. Very busy for a Monday. Food was ok but nothing special, quite pricey.
We thought we'd visit the advertised and signposted Animal Corner. It consisted of 2 Pygmy goats! Lovely goats, but what a disappointment. And the Pick Your Own prices were very expensive!
M. L.
Excellent food and 1st class service highly recommended for a chilled day out or and active mellow family day out love this place the staff are wonderful
H. W.
Great place to take children in the summer as there is a good , safe play area and friit picking. Good cafe, can be a little expensive but good quality food is worth paying that big extra for. Excellent farm shop for your fresh veg etc and lovely tasty pork pies and quiche. Definitely worth a visit.
S. O.
Lovely food and friendly service... best tomatoe soup I've ever had! And fully Covid compliant (gutted that I wrapped up half my tuna sandwich to bring home... but left it on the table!).
C. J.
This is the second time we have visited this place. Great menu and wonderful farm shop. Well worth a visit!
L. C.
Always a pleasure to go here, choice of cakes mmmm mmmm. Very friend staff. Always recommend coming here, very good covid restrictions in place. We'll done
J. K.
We enjoyed having lunch there it was a very good place to go they were very helpful
M. J.
Such a lovely farm shop/cafe/deli. Great service and really clean. Kids play area is fab. Only negative is the cake was slightly dry.
P. L.
Excellent variety of fresh fruit and vegetables all locally grown. With a beautiful coffee shop selling delicious snacks. Scared to visit too often because when I do I'm tempted to buy a little bit of everything. There is also a variety of pick you own fruit and vegetables when in season.
P. B.
nice fresh mostly local but oddly some foreign produce too.
Cafe is lovely and staff friendly.
Play area for the kids but not much there tbh.
Still a nice place for a coffee and to shop some local Yorkshire produce.
H. H.
Food lovely, service appalling.
B. H.
Very clean, well organized, food very nice, however, can't give five stars as a request for a tomato adding in the Bacon sandwich was refused as it was gone 11.30am. Pretty dismal and unaccommodating.
M. K.
Visited the Balloon Tree Farm Shop & Cafe today for the 1st time! It is absolutely amazing! Staff were friendly helpful and professional and went out of their way to please me and my husband (who's celiac). Food was delicious and served fast even though the cafe was quite busy. We would definitely recommend this place to everyone!
J. C.
Found this place online. Good farm shop with a variety of produce. Cafe excellent, pleasant staff, prompt service. We went on a cold day, so didn't look outside, but there looked to be animals to see, and a children's play area. Definitely worth a visit.
k. n.
Cakes are amazing staff are very friendly
J. J.
Had a great lunch there today, great food in a great setting. The farm shop is well stocked and a good price. Will definitely revisit to pick our own fruit.
S. “. E.
Excellent food. Gorgeous home made cakes. But service rather slow between being seated and someone coming to take
The order. Very good choice on offer.
K. R.
Beautiful and pleasant, gorgeous fresh foods made on premises..... A treasure trove of farm shop favourites, we did not eat in the cafe as it was very busy with a queue to get in but that can only be a good sign! If we had more time on our journey we would have waited!!
D. F.
Came here with my nephew for the pick your own pumpkin and it was perfect, plenty of space and no time limits or rush. Cafe and playground afterwards were fab. Will definitely be coming back
M. 3.
Lovely little cafe and shop with some nice stuff on offer and brilliant butchers products.
Only one criticism is that I think they must have a new Baker or be trying out a new recipe or two as although they were excellent at sponge cakes but the lemon meringue pie and key lime pie was very very bland and jellified the past couple of times we've been .
S. F.
Second visit to the Balloon Tree lunch in the cafe in the sunshine then a mooch round the shop great produce eco friendly packaging (paper bags) no plastic. Covid safe.
J. M.
Great place to visit on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Nice cafe with a lot of seating inside and outside, great farm shop and you can pick your own fruit and vegetables from the fields. There is also a few good play areas for kids. Worth a visit if you’ve never been before for sure.
J. P.
Lovely cafe - delicious food and quick service.
A great cafe for a catch-up with family and/or friends. We ordered sandwiches and finished off with homemade cake. A really relaxed atmosphere. Fantastic! 😁
S. B.
Well stocked farm shop/deli. Impressed on first visit. Nice take away coffee and well-spaced outdoor picnic tables. Soya milk available too
T. G.
Good Value for money friendly helpful staff
M. C.
Absolutely brilliant. Good food to eat in the café with polite and courteous staff. Huge selection of locally sourced, where possible, produce.
As one of their joke cards says "If it ain't from Yorkshire its s****." Seriously, apologies to anyone who is offended but we are very proud of our county.
But I digress, feeling peckish and in a hurry, try a lovingly made on the spot bap with whatever filling you fancy, delicious sausage rolls, Yorkshire pasties (cornish ones without Cornwall) and much more.
Yes it's a little pricey but you are paying for quality. My favourite farm shop!
J. A.
Fantastic place; i felt like my childhood is back...
P. B.
Just wish coffee and toast would be served together but otherwise what a really beautiful place very pleasant staff and food was first class
N. D.
Excellent day today, we loved the berry picking today. I went down with my 3 kids in the heat, but loved all the fruit we picked, as it was a sweltering day we cooled off with some ice cream and snacks from the farm shop which was clean, locally sourced ingredients and enjoyed our raspberry frangipane that we took home.
R. G.
We have recently moved to the area and the balloon tree has become one of our favoruties. Each time we have been it is always busy and the staff all working so hard but are still super friendly and professional every time.
A. H.
Great food, lovely staff, and still being cautious about covid, which was reassuring for those of us more vulnerable. Thank you
E. S.
Wonderful food. Stopped for a quick lunch. Had a child with autism and my elderly parents with dementia. Staff were brilliant and so helpful. We live going. Can't wait to fruit pick soon x
J. H.
First visit, impressed, we'll be back
j. p.
A friendly and accessible farm shop and cafe offering good quality produce and a pleasant ambience.
M. P.
Delicious breakfast, seemed costly but beautiful quality and good sized portions. The black pudding made it. Everything very hot and suoer fast service. Ordered a pot of tea, git several cups from it
H. D.
A fantastic farm shop and café. There is a wide range of sausage rolls, pasties, cakes and bread in the shop. Also, you can purchase a wide variety of produce and a selection of pork, chicken and beef. The café has lovely food and the service is fantastic. A special touch is the willingness of the staff to carry a high chair to your table. The kids play area is small, but adequate for a few minutes distraction. The play area is suitable for children up to 7 or 8 years old.
During the spring/summer, you can pick your own fruit/veg. Keen walkers and families may enjoy walking around the paths outside of the farm shop. They are suitable for pushchairs and for the most part seem level for wobbly walkers. Overall, the Balloon Tree provides a great day out for both old and young alike.
J. K.
Lovely cafe and shop.
M. &. C. L.
Very well stocked farm shop with some lovely gifts and cards. The cafe is worth a visit they have delicious cakes, snacks and meals. There is also an outdoor play area for the children.
V.
Great service, amazing food. Highly recommended the boozy beef in giant Yorkshire pudding! The shop has some great pies, sausages and burgers too.
A. D.
Called on Sunday afternoon, warm welcome, lovely seat in the sun. Amazing Sunday lunch. I would 100% recommend.
N. k.
Good outdoor fun, kids run free and enjoy the play area and car rides. The farm shop and cafe are really nice
F. T.
To the girls who served us this afternoon, thank you. We are still dubious about venturing out into this post COVID world and although rushed off your feet, time was taken to make us feel comfortable.
J. d.
Great place for quality produce. They have a good set up for safe shopping with social distancing measures strictly adhered to. Also have a drive through collection area.
T. W.
Lovely place to eat, Lovely food and staff very friendly, nice clean place
M. R.
Great selection of baked and fresh goods. Well displayed products and farm shop.
Although the actual shop isn't large there are some nice little finds here. Wish I had more space in my case!
L. R.
Really fun pumpkin picking day! Lovely place and friendly lad in the Berry shack
D. A.
Superb place to stop off for a coffee or full English breakfast nice staff, great farm shop plenty of parking
T. B.
Excellent choice of different cakes, I chose the raspberry roulade... amazing! And big portion, lovely coffees, will be returning 😁👍🏻
P. T.
Good food and service , really welcome after a long drive..
P. A.
Nice place to eat, shop or PYO. Produce is good quality but expensive. Staff always very friendly and professional. Nice to pop in for the occasional treat but you couldn't afford to shop here frequently.
M. E.
Some lovely food..but had to wait ,40 mins.
Very helpful and pleasant staff
Roomy
Very good children's play area
.very helpful for keeping them amused
Lovely to have big doors that open to outside area...on a hot day
D. M.
Excellent food..really friendly staff...say no more !!
T. H.
Food delicious great that you can take your dog with you. Friendly staff and helpful.
c.
Lovely café with nice strong coffee to keep me awake on the journey home from a busy seaside holiday and a nice farm shop to pick up a few bits for when we get back.
Children's play area and pick your own fruit/veg (strawberries and asparagus at the mo, raspberries, currants, peas and others later in the year).
R. C.
Excellent customer service and excellent customer care
G. S.
Fabulous family place...reasonably priced and very tasty...will definitely be back
J. O.
Didn't get the order correct as I got a different quiche from the one I ordered. The one that came was filled with asparagus and was bland. To top it off it came with asparagus on the plate too!!
My coffee was spilt all over my saucer but they didn't do anything to correct it. In my opinion it was overpriced too. Four coffees, one quiche with salad and one ham and mustard sandwich with salad was £25.
S. B.
We met some friends for lunch here and , as Christmas was approaching I decided to have the turkey lunch. This was tasty and the me at was beautifully cooked. I did enjoy it.
G. C.
Nice lunch and a well stocked farm shop
S. R.
Lovely tearooms lots to do like fruit picking
Good farm shop
Prices reasonable too.
M. H.
Lovely fresh produce. Pies, baking, chutneys. All beautifully presented. A little pricey but good quality.
J. B.

S. H.
One of the best full English breakfasts I have ever had. Well worth a try.
l. E.
Very nice new restaurant area and the shop looks great now. The food was delicious and they offer a great range of items. Very friendly staff that were happy to help.
A. B.
Didn’t visit the cafe but it looked nice. The deli food we took home was good. Would recommend the sausage rolls!
K. S.
Good staff & good food, but a bit expensive.
M. S.
First time at Baloon Tree,Just had a business meeting and breakfast there, wonderful food and excellent staff.
Will certainly have more meetings and visits there and have no hesitation in recomending
M. S.
Went to the Cafe, service and food were good. Mens' toilets weren't that clean with bits of paper on the floor and in need of redecorating, hand dryer in the corridor. Food 4* Toilets 2*
V. M.
Lovely friendly staff, great food and well stocked shop. Well worth a visit.
D. M.
Lovely farm shop, all local where possible. In the cafe nice atmosphere and lovely food, all fresh and prepared on site. Not a very big choice, but very nice food. Definitely worth a visit if passing or if you live near.
J. M.
Not much choice for vegetarians, some of the apparently veggie options have non-veggie ingredients, so knocked off a star. However, it's a really nice place to eat and shop if you aren't vegetarian!
G. H.
The homemade trifle a delight.
Cakes looked amazing
M. Y.
Great service. Lovely coffee and wonderful strawberry roulade! The perfect treat on the way back from a long tandem ride.
M. B.
Nice tasty fresh food made in the cafe with produce from the farm. Nice place to go in the summer to pick fruit and veg. Lovely shop also.
H. O.
Had the BRT with wooky hole, most amazing toastie I've ever had, was unimaginably good, will be going again and will recommend anyone who goes to try one 😁
D. T.
I’ve come here on and off for a while but this year I’ve been impressed by their ability to maintain stock levels. I come here to get my fruit and veg and also Gold Top milk.
M. S.
Love this place the pick your own is great. The shop and cafe are first rate for quality. The events are normally good but sometimes a bit pricey.
J. K.
Cannon hall farm! blacker hall farm etc! Yes its another 'Farm Shop' and its got all the usual quirks. However there is an abundance of fresh fruit and veg ready to be picked by your own hand! What else would you want? Fresh fruit, veg and meat! I Had a nice full english here and picked my own strawberries. Its good afternoon mess about basically.
M. G.
Called in for lunch had roast beef, one guest had gluten free lunch no problems. Good choice of desserts. Good food good service and good value.
J. M.
Came fir a drink and cake on a sunday afternoon.Ordered chocolate brownie with choc chips & cherries but never found any cherries
Also ordered lemon cake but the sponge was dense and not much lemon taste. If you took away the layer of lemon curd then didn't really taste of lemon. Felt cheated.
Hot chocolate had lots of cream and marshmallows and the tea was Taylor's so couldn't fault them.
The staff were all friendly but not very tidy in their dress. There was a man walking around with spillage down the front of his trousers. The girls had leggings on...not very tidy and one young lady looked liked she had slept in and tied her hair back as she didn't have time to wash it.
P. W.
Excellent - food ambience and staff were very lucky also with a lovely sunny day.
A. T.
Set out really nice. Good produce, reasonable prices, large range of foodstuff. Dined in cafe... food nice, service good. Rice pudding overpriced.
A. H.
Friendly. Fresh produce. A lovely day out.
P. T.
Always get good food and drinks here, but it is quite pricey. There can be a wait at peak times. Good for families and kids, outdoor area to play.
C. G.
Good food, friendly staff clean and pleasant surroundings.
T. W.
Great produce.. not all of it is local. Decent takeaway coffee too. The parking is free and plenty of it and in the summer pick your own fruits in available.
A. M.
Love this place for special food you just can't get from supermarkets all good foods and home made cakes and other items, came again recently for the veggie breakfast, so lovely, highly reccomend if your veggie great food here
A. J.
Very well organized and quite strict social distancing. Food was good, lots for kids to do. Worth a visit although it was quite busy.
J. H.
First visit ti this popular cafe farm shop will be coming back with the grand children in summer to pick fruit looks a nice set up. Cafe light and spacious 👍
G. G.
Love the Balloon Tree. Always good food on offer. Breakfast is particularly popular.
J. C.
Lovely garden centre incorporating
a well run cafe,
With an excellent well looked after play area for children up to ages of 6/7.just situated between York and st bridge, well stocked shop selling all from fruit and vegetables to meats from the deli counter amongst other collectable items of interest.would certainly recommend popping in for a visit.

S. T.
Lovely sandwiches followed by an afogato! Great, friendly service too, and very covid-safe.
S. L.
We enjoyed our visit today however we waited a long time to be served in the cafe and found the waitress who did eventually serve us to be rude and snappy- what a shame as other waitresses were lovely
C. B.
I was served by a friendly and polite young man this afternoon, it's great to feel welcome when popping in to buy essential food items in such strange times
S.
Really helpful staff over the phone. Bought our Christmas Tree from here from a large selection of trees! Reasonably priced and even carried it to my car!
K. M.

C. M.
Excellent breakfast every time we go which is very often perfect poached eggs+the nicest of staff. The shop is very nicely stocked +the freshest of fresh foods.
G. D.
We spent a fair amount in the cafe on food and drinks and sat outdoors so the kids could play so wasn't very impressed when we were told we couldn't buy a pasty from the shop and eat it in the outdoor area!! Seems ridiculous when its all the business!
N. R.
Only popped in for a coffee but was really impressed with the place. The staff were really friendly and it's really well set out.
A. K.
Went here for strawberry picking - strawberries were amazing! Good farmshop and cafe. Child friendly with outdoor play area for kids. Free parking.

High quality establishment. Great food for sale. I perticularly like the Jersey milk machine.
L. W.
Staff friendly, our girls loved picking the strawberries, we have been to a few before with chloe, but this was caitlyns first time strawberry picking and our first time here, definitely the best place, good price we paid about £7 for three punnets,
W. A.

Love this place but by God they need to sort out weekend breakfast service. Lost orders, delays, wrong food. Such a shame as when they get it right it's lovely.
P. J.
Very good breakfast nicely cooked and hot
Very nice setting to explore
R. L.
Cafe is shut due to lock down...Farm shop is excellent..high quality produce at prices that aren't too extortionate...all covid procedures very good..
I. P.
It's very expensive for breakfast
A. M. F.
Lovely treats , and meal ideas , plus great staff ...always enjoy shopping here .
P. C.
Excellent - the cafe was really good, friendly staff, and the Easter trail was good fun. Can't wait to come back and pick some fruit in June!
A. A.
Love this place. Home made produce. Lovely restaurant. Fun gift ideas. Lovely staff. Never fails my enjoyment.

We love it here and always get a warm welcome in the tea rooms. The produce sold in the shop and fruit and veg stall are well nice x
C. G.
We usually love this place and have a coffee latte and freshly baked scone but this time the coffee was really strong and bitter tasting and we thought the scone was a bit dry. Very disappointed.
L. A.
Great place to pick fresh berries and currants. Prices were reasonable and friendly staff advised us where to pick and look for the best berries.
T. H.
Great cafe. Great farm shop produce. Been going for years and it's getting bigger. Well worth a visit if you are local or visitors.
K. H.
A great discovery, large choice of produce and gifts, tea rooms amazing.
S. N.
This place was suprisingly good for "picking your own" fruit/veg.
Its not necessarily the cheapest, but is wonderful for a day out. We picked rasberies for many hours. A huge selection of nice stuff to pick
T. L.

Lovely bright cafe. Good choice of food and drink. Good outside seating area. Play equipment for children, further out from patio also with seating
g. l.
was busy and had a bit of a wait but the food was well worth waiting for, had a burger which was delicious.
J. W.
Service slow although there was plenty of staff. Cheese scone was dry and tasteless. Lovely cup of tea though .
K. W.
Only criticism was the floors being cleaned whilst I was eating my food. Very strong smell of cleaning products not enjoyable whilst eating ?
S. P.

S. O.

Take money! You will spend it on all the amazing things they sell even though its slightly expensive! Nice little area for kids to play. fruit picking seasonal obviously!
P. O.
Service is poor. Food is alright, but the quality has lessened in recent years.
C. Z.
Had a nice late lunch and we picked berries. Lovely family time and we couldnt leave with out buying products from the shop.
E. M.
Great food. Perfect outdoor seating. Sometimes the service is a little off
R. U.
Lovely strawberry picking this year. Usual high quality food in the cafe. Play area for little ones. What's not to love.
P. E.
Well worth a special trip to enjoy the excellent local fresh produce, hand picked specialities and a lovely expanded cafe, with a great menu at good prices.
W. G.
Very nice place, but not cheap, prices to me are top dollar prices, because of the location. Produce in the farm shop is excellent, but again you pay top prices.
G. M.
Nice place for a spot of lunch. Well stocked farm shop, and the cafe serves a tasty selection of meals and snacks. Calm and peaceful surroundings.
P. R.
