Really enjoyed the experience at Volvo Cars Edinburgh with Peter. Originally I was going to buy a used car off a car supermarket online which claimed to hand select it's new cars, but after running the license plates to see the vehicle service and MOT histories I was left with a few big question marks over how these so called select vehicles had been looked after. Fantastic service from Aaron in the purchase of our used XC90 for our family. Aaron could not have done more to help us and all without any kind of pushy sales behaviour. He allowed us to bring our child and baby seats and buggies to test out the car would work for us practically, then sourced us the perfect vehicle from one of the other branches. The icing on the cake was bringing in the date of handover by one day to suit us, which I think caused them to work round the clock without any fuss. My wife and I have just received our new C40 that we ordered back in March '22. The service we received from our sales person Aaron Scott from the day we ordered the car through to the collection on Monday 9th January was exceptional. He is a credit to Volvo Edinburgh and Volvo overall. Other dealerships and companies could learn from his attention to detail. Right from the start we were kept up to date with monthly phone calls (which i thought was just something that was said when we ordered the car and would not happen) with progress reports on our order. Never did a month go past without a call. Any questions i had were responded to in a timely manner. As the delivery date got closer the excitement grew and we even managed a sneak peek of the car the day before we were to collect. The car looked stunning and easily the best one since we have had since we collected our XC40 First Edition in 2018. At the handover, Aaron took his time to explain all the functions of the car which had changed a fair bit from the XC40 Inscription Pro we were trading in mainly being that it is our first full electric car.
I cannot forget to give Peter Malcolm a mention. Peter is a great member of the sales Team at Volvo Edinburgh and is usually our salesperson when we go in but unfortunately Peter was off unwell at the time. I believe there has been and still is a fair bit of banter between not just the two of them but also my wife and I anytime we are in. Both are a credit to the dealership.
Finally, it was great to meet Darryl (branch manager)for the first time. Thanks for taking the time to come over and meet us for the first time. A nice touch.
We look forward to dealing with all @ Edinburgh Volvo going forward for years to come and best of luck with your move out to Newbridge. The new premises is massive and can only enhance the service i and other Volvo customers already experience.

Unbelievable service from enquiry to pick up. Peter was excellent very informative and helpful. Test drive set up without any drama booked out for an hour to get to know the car. We were very impressed with Eva who arranged for my husband to have test drive..we had been to a dealership near us who only allowed 15mins for test drive.We felt this was not sufficient so travelled to Edinburgh where we were allowed to have longer. We bought our XC40 on line with Arran being our point of contact. He arranged to send a video of the car which he did with a running commentary on the different features of the car. Having seen the video we decided to go ahead with the purchase. Arran arranged the deal and all the paper work very professionally. The whole process went very smoothly and no hiccups. I've been coming here for services and a warranty repair last 18 months.
The staff has always been excellent and prompt. Appointments are confirmed via sms, health check is provided via email, great waiting area.
The car has always come back in perfect order as you would expect from an official dealer but which isn't always the case at other places.
The complimentary wash and hoover is a lovely touch.

(Originally 1 star - You may feel you are paying for a repair twice - £1212 (so far) to fix SRS Warning Light
The summary is my SRS Warning light came on over a year ago. It was an intermittent problem. Got it ‘fixed’ in August 2020, then again in March 2021. Total cost for this was £1212.
The detail: Waited for my regular service and availability to get it fixed as clearly getting a slot given essential priorities was a premium so waited until Service due in August. Car was off the road for several days for the fix. It was reported that there was an issue with the seatbelt pre-tensioner requiring replacement middle seat belt. I was charged £708 for the fix including the diagnostics and testing.
The car was then not used much due to the travel restrictions. After a few months the warning light would infrequently come back on, often immediately after going over a bump, as previous. I made another appointment in December 2020. However, in the limited times I’d used the car between making the appointment and the dues date the warning light never came back on. I therefore phoned garage to discuss if it was worth handing in. The bottom line is that it was up to me – system may or may not be logging issues, there would be a diagnostic charge at circa £120+/hour. I cancelled the appointment until the problem was more regular. Then of course the warning light started to re-appear, still intermittently but more frequently than before. Booked car in for an appointment and was informed £198 for diagnostics (1.5 hours to remove rear seats). I ok’d this very reluctantly after a long discussion regarding my view that it was the same problem. That couldn’t be confirmed until after the diagnostics. Then later the same day I was informed that it would be another £306 approx. to fix as there is a cracked wire at the rear middle seat. I was informed that this may have been a contributor to the last problem too. I was assured that this was sufficiently different from previous fix therefore not under any warranty so I was eligible for full amount. So much for the testing after first fix. No one has been in the rear seats for over a year as the car has been parked up most of the time. I certainly feel I’m paying for the same fix twice including the diagnostics and cost of seat removal and replacement. It also seems hugely expensive.
Separate Issue - No follow up on Sales visit and request
Additionally, the first time I booked the car in for service in August 2020 I had arranged to meet a member of the Sales team as it was during a promotional period that the garage was advertising for new cars. I met the salesman, though not the one I’d booked to see, and we spent 30 minutes together. I requested a quote for a new XC90 including trade in for my existing one, as well as a similar quote for the XC60. It was agreed that this would be available when I collected the car. It wasn’t. Despite following up on this I have never received a quote. I will certainly cast the net wide when looking for my next and fifth, XC90.
I have read all the reviews here and they are generally divided into either, “five star great experiences”, or “one star poor experiences”. I do wonder why so polarised.
Finally, I left a draft copy of this report with Edinburgh Volvo when I collected the car in March 2021, to give them a heads-up before publishing. Having heard nothing, I sent a copy to Volvo UK)
UPDATE July 2021 - Volvo contacted me after this post and investigated my points, After a short while I was contacted again and we reached a reasonable agreement on the above service claims that I had stated above.
Additionally I bought a new car from them and was very pleased with the ease of buying and the support from the Sales team this time (esp. Patrick, Darren and Craig). So as you can see I have changed my ratings and updated with my current view, which is that I have enjoyed very good Service and Sales. The demonstration of this is clearly purchasing another Volvo from Volvo Cars Edinburgh.

Car is great, but I was asked by the garage to call the Service Dept to buy the 2 year service plan during a week day. I called the Service department, an automated message repeatedly told they are very busy but hold and my call will be answered. I gave up waiting after 20-30 minutes of holding on 4 occasions at different times. I am now seriously concern that I have bought a car from a garage whose Service department do not put Customer Service high on their priority list. Will I be required to put aside hours of my time in the future to wait to get through on the telephone just to book my car in for a service!
Second issue was when I collected the new car, the sales person upset my spouse by asking if I would be buying one for her too, making the assumption that she, also an independent professional can not afford to buy her own car and would require her spouse to buy her a car! That did not upset me but upset the Spouse who believes the comment Sexist.

I've bought many cars over many years and have had a varying degree of proficiency at the handover stage, probably the single most important process in the purchasing chain.
This is my first Volvo and I travelled over 300 miles to Edinburgh to get it simply because it was the most competitively priced.
I have to say that I was met with the best purchasing experience ever.
The car I purchased was beautifully presented and immaculately clean.
The staff are extremely proficient, a big shout out to Liam, Craig and Hadleigh but the best I'll save until last and that is Susan Tait.
Susan went over and above her call of duty, ringing me on her days off to ensure the purchasing process went smoothly which it did.
A highly professional company, I would not hesitate in recommending them as a credit to the Volvo brand.

My car has a vehicle safety recall and I have been told to book into Volvo Edinburgh. No matter what day or time of day I call this garage, or how long I sit on hold in the automated system, or whether I call servicing, general enquiries, or sales, nobody ever answers the phone. I even emailed them asking them if there was a particular time or day when I could call and speak to someone - no reply.
From the perspective of Volvo Edinburgh, this is such a missed opportunity. Here's a load of people who already have Volvos (ie. they are about as good a potential customer for a Volvo garage as is possible), and this recall makes all those people HAVE TO walk into a Volvo showroom. Totally captive audience of their easiest potential customer group.
By making it impossible to deal with them they've managed to turn an open goal into an own goal.

Bought a Volvo from another dealer last month and found the back windscreen wiper not working. Through the Volvo selekt warranty I took my car to Volvo Edinburgh. They told me to bring it in, found a fault with the wiper motor and ordered a new one. Whilst the car was being checked, it got a wash & valet. Was phoned when the part was in (a week later) booked her in and the new part fitted. I waited with a lovely cup of coffee. Even though this was no fault of Edinburgh Volvo, they carried out the repair with such professionalism and little fuss and the service I found outstanding. With this sort of service, I’m glad I chose Volvo. I thank all the staff involved for looking after me and my car in such a friendly, no fuss manner.

Had my V70 in recently with loss of power,as I live not very far away just drove in and left the car with them. An hour later got a text with a video link showing what had happened and what was required with the cost. Parts arrived next day,fitted and I was called to say car was ready. Having been in the Motor Trade for a fair while, buying a car is always a daunting process as I know how it works. Buying my first Volvo and dealing with John was flawless. We took the spade is a spade approach and I got the car I wanted at the price I wanted, with no hassle. The car came prepared and presented to a high standard and with half a tank of fuel!

Showroom a bit tired. Clelland Volvo in Galashiels is by far the best Volvo showroom I've ever been in. However the service in Edinburgh Volvo is usually of a high standard. My intention was to shop around, however my initial interaction with Peter at Volvo Edinburgh stopped us in our search and we decided to buy a Volvo. Peter’s product knowledge and complete absence of a hard sell allowed us to make good decision and move forward to payment. Peter went beyond my expectations by designing a purchase plan that suited us perfectly and also offered a service plan moving forward. On the day of pick up Peter spend a considerable amount of time explaining the cars many features in detail and showing us how to navigate those features. He also offered the ability to return at a later date to go through the features again if required. I would definitely recommend Volvo Edinburgh. Buy with confidence.
