Reviews of St Malachy's Church, Belfast

Beautiful old church, in a quiet location on Alfred Street in Belfast. It's a place worth visiting for it's architectural heritage and is best known for it's stunning fan vaulted ceiling.

Whilst I am not of the religion, l remember very well Saint Malachy's Church in a different time in my own history school football teams ( It was at one time a very run down and to my knowledge, it had lost a large number of its believers due to massive development in the markets housing area. Today it's a Very very Beautiful Church ( in what would be an industrial and commercial part of Belfast, actually it is DWARFED by the high raised commerce buildings. This beautiful St Malachy's Church is approx 6/8-minutes from the busy thoroughfares of Great Victoria Street, the Europa Hotel, Bus & Rail Station, City Hall, Cinemas, Smithfield Market & Shaftesbury Square. I thoroughly enjoyed my personal visited to Saint Malachy' Beautiful Church and health permitting to see it at ChristmasTime.

Beautiful, prayerful atmosphere and interior in a church that is wider than it is long. There's no nave to speak of, and instead an upper tier of pews, similar to those found in Welsh Methodist Chapels.

Stunning architecture & church

The most beautiful Catholic Church in South Belfast. If in Belfast you must visit!

The exterior of this church, while attractive enough, doesn't give away the beauty within. A beautiful chapel flooded with light with important religious carvings all around the walls.

Great architecture and love the atmosphere! Attended a mass recently and the COVID-19 social distancing is at its best! Appreciate each and everyone behind it, working towards safety of the entire community! Thank you!

Father mcginnity was excellent, his helpers on hand were fantastic. It's a beautiful chapel. A real hidden gem.

I really love worship in song. Singing ones is praying twice. So on Sunday since Corona, I just follow the music and sometimes land in a Baptist or Presbyterian church... Coz they have found a way to add music to their services. 🤔I am sure St Malachi's and other Catholic churches could find a way to do at least one song during mass without fearing Corona will infect everyone. Apart from the really brief talk and respond service and prayer sessions, it is a beautiful place and since the Catholic Church is home to me, I always come back home no matter how boring😔. I will do a worship song if they let me😜.

Beautifully restored city centre Catholic church. The vaulted ceiling is the highlight but church feels much more inviting since a restoration around a decade ago which has brightened up the interiors and given it all a new lease of life. Restful retreat near the city centre.

Worth a visit to simply enjoy the quiet in one on the oldest chapels in Belfast

Very friendly. We spoke to the pass keeper, but unfortunately we were unable to wait for Mass as we were flying back to Glasgow.
There was a very spiritual feel in the Church and should we come back to Belfast at any time we would like to participate in the Hy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Just the place to sit n think, no interruptions from the hustle n bustle outside. Just be at one with yourself n God and enjoy the peace n quiet. The solitude let’s you talk to Hod, tell your fears n joys n how your days is going. Also a place for a quiet prayer to help you with the interview you’re about to go in to

A beautiful church set on the outskirts of Belfast City Centre. Recently brought back to its former glory. A wonderful oasis of peace in a busy world. No wonder Prince Charles loves it

This is a little gem of tranquillity in the heart of Belfast. An unusual little church that is wider than it is long. Beautifully ornate, but peaceful and gives one a place to be at one with ones spirit.

Beautiful church, gothic style and built in a very special way. Amazing ceiling and a great, peaceful place to escape from the daily hectic hours and get some rest for your soul
M. O.
I think this is the best chapel in the country. Awesome architecture right in the middle of the city center. Masses are also broadcast online. Quiet place to escape to during the day.

Beautiful Church, build in the Romantic architectural style. Warm and welcoming diocese. Absolutely worth a visit whether you are A Catholic or not.

Well worth a visit to this splendid Catholic Chapel in the heart of Belfast. Great recoco plasterwork, but Fr. Michael's Service and Sermons are a must those of any religion.
A. P.
The fan vaulting makes this worthy of a visit (if you've nothing better to do) but the incongruous pews jar along with the grandiose sanctuary/altar, Art Deco windows and sterile atmosphere.
K. B.
Well worth a visit to see the magnificent ornate plasterwork done by Italian craftsmen. A prayer to The Ragged Saint is a tradition for those who have lost all hope
M. P.
Beautiful church with unique architecture. One of the few churches in the central area of Belfast with morning and evening (5pm) mass service on Sunday, Vigil Mass on Saturday.
M. F.
