Reviews of St Patrick's Catholic Church, Belfast

St Patrick’s Chapel is home to the famous Sir John Lavery triptych - Madonna of the Lakes - which he gifted (in 1918) to the chapel he was baptised in. It’s always quiet during the day so a nice spot to just dander in and get your head showered so to speak! A beautiful altar and a well designed modern but ornate columbarium. Not too sure if the diocesan shop next door is still open.

Beautiful parish church in Belfast. The crowd at mass when I visited was so great that the two galleries had to be opened up. Big dust cloths had to be removed from the pews.
The interior of the church is every bit as appealing as the exterior, with fine stained glass and mosaics.

Belfast's second Catholic church, originally constructed in the second decade of the ninteenth century with this edifice from 1877, a larger replacement to accommodate the rapidly expanding Catholic population at that time. Full of the handiwork of the Italian craftsmen who came to Ireland in the ninteenth century to decorate the many churches springing up in the decades after Catholic emancipation. Don't miss the triptych by native of the parish, Sir John Lavery, 'Our lady of the lakes ' depicting Our lady, St Patrick and St Brigid. Lavery's wife and step daughter were used for the faces of Our Lady and St Brigid. The 7ft tall statue of St Patrick over the entrance and altar are by James Pearce, father of Padraig.

(Translated) Beautiful church where worship is respected in its ancient traditions. Before Easter, all the statues are covered with purple sheets so that the passion of Christ takes all its meaning. There were not many statues or paintings to see and the atmosphere was very special. I'm happy to have seen this and the very old triptych of the entrance that could not be covered.
