Reviews of Pompoko
P. R.
Always have the most incredible meals when I go here!! Very affordable japanese style rice bowls and big portions, also you can bring your own drinks which is great. They have so many options like chicken, tofu, pork and beef.
Staff is also friendly, it is cash only!! Can't wait to go back :)
S. C.
Great little restaurant. Does takeaways too. Were very busy on a Thursday. Portion sizes ok, lots of rice though. Very cramped dining. You can byo booze but they charge. The pub next door (Waggon & Horses) allows you to take your food there - bonus!
K. Z.
really nice affordable place for a simple Japanese meal. they only take cash which was slightly inconvenient, and my only issue with the nanban don was that the sauce totally drowned everything and became quite overpowering . the oyakodon was a bit dry in comparison.
T. P.
Good little spot for some Japanese food. Great value for money and quick service.
Cash only is something to bear in mind but overall it’s recommendable for some above average if not incredible food.
Would go again.
E. S.
One of our favorite place for lunch! So affordable, yet there’s probably no other place in town that does teriyaki chicken as tasty as they do. Highly recommend trying chicken teriyaki don with extra teriyaki sauce. You will leave full and highly satisfied (probably even craving some Pompoko a few days later). Cash only!
J. S.
Beautiful tasting food, a good variety, including enough vegan dishes. Friendly staff and very affordable pricing. The food came in under 10 minutes even though the place was packed.
You buy a main dish and a side which is perfectly filling, and under £10. If you're not starving one main will even be enough. But again the flavours are amazing and I'll be taking friends and family to Pompoko, 100% recommended! :)
K. E. L.
Ohh… super delicious.. I ordered chicken teriyakidon and the rice, chicken everything was perfect! I can finish another bowl right away👍👍 definitely will visit again
S. D.
Brilliant little restaurant and very reasonably priced - our three vegetarian mains were all £6 each. BYOB - they'll give you glasses with a £1.50 charge per person. Cash only which is a bit annoying!
o. m.
Food taste good and worth of money, strange thing is how yaki udon is mixed with beansprout... It's certainly something never try before for Japanese udon.
Also be ready of CASH as the place accept cash only!
M. G.
Delicious authentic food with a nice family-run vibe. BYOB as well with a convenient Sainsbury's Local situated around the corner. Very reasonably priced food - on average it's about £6 per course with a £1.50 cover charge for BYOB. They have glasses & bottle openers available.
D. K.
Why are people still complaining that they only take cash? It’s a tiny business and all business get charged a fee by card company’s!
Anyway. This store is tiny, but they always have a line out of the door! A sign of good food? YES!! A bowl full of sticky rice, topped with what ever you like (they have a decent size menu) my go to is the chicken nan ban don. Sticky rice topped with crispy fried chicken, lettuce and Japanese Mayo! So tasty!!!
C. W.
Came here for lunch with a few friends and was very impressed. The dishes are very cheap (£6.20!) For a very good bowl of domburri; tasty, freshly made and just the right portion size.
My only warning; it's cash only, and it's kinda cramped inside so I can see it filling up super fast at lunchtime etc. But so long as you don't mind eating close together it's a lovely little place!
R. M.
A perfect balance of deliciousness, authenticity and cheapness. My Japanese friends approve of this place. It's my favourite restaurant in brighton as a student! - such a variety of things to eat. Also brilliant service. ~Remember cash only
A. M.
Really lovely authentic food at a very good price in brighton!! Wonderful atmosphere
L. E.
Very popular place as queue to get in, great that you can bring your own wine and only pay 1.50 corkage. I really enjoyed my chicken /katsu curry although my friend didn't enjoy her noodles. They were a bit tasteless tbh. Very reasonably priced.
H. T.
Must try valuable Japanese restaurant!!! Absolutely satisfied😋😋♨️🍚
B. D.
Delicious food, big portions , and not expensive at all. The only downside is that it's cash only and doesn't accept card.
A. G.
Great vegan dishes and fast and friendly service.
Downside; cash only. This is why only two 3 stars as it makes it impractical and especially with covid we shouldn’t be handling cash so much.
Still, a great place for a quick cheap meal.
W. W.
Fast food Japanese style, don't expect too much. Okay for a quick meal, barely any veg in the noodles & fatty chicken. Quick service, cash only.
D. H.
Really love this Japanese restaurant for a quick bite. Delicious!
S. C.
Not exceptional but definitely better than chains like Wagamama. Big portions, value for money - you get what you paid for.
Y. D.
Stunning flavours. Pumpkin Japanese curry was lovely. So cheap! Good portion sizes too
E. T.
Absolutely class food for the price, range is incredible and they’re really accommodating for allergies. Food always comes really quick, hot and fresh - only thing is it’s cash only so remember to bring ur coins!
J. G.
Fantastic, both in the range of dishes served and in the great table service and top quality staff. I would highly recommend this eatery, from a quick lunch to a full dinner this place has you covered.
C. K.
The best restaurant in Brighton. Delicious authentic Japanese cuisine, great atmosphere, no frills, just excellent food and extremely reasonable prices, £13 for Katsu curry, spring rolls, endame beans and Miso soup. Filling and delicious. Highly recommended, if you like Japanese food you will love this place guaranteed.
A. A.
Great value, my partner Yumiko’s dish was really good (katsu don).
Quick service and you can bring your own booze which is decent
k. R.
Good food, busy at times but worth waiting for. Prices reasonable. BYO is a nice option.
J. O.
Amazing authentic food at great value
E. S.
I love going on dates here. It's very well priced and you get what you pay for. I suspect it's slightly artificial but nevertheless it's nice
ア.
The cafe has a nice interior and the food is very well priced! The rice was cooked well and the prawn nanban was delicious. The tea was good and is much less expensive then most places the oy downside was the pork was not of great quality. However will be coming here again!
I. B.
I got an addition to this place .
This food is just something that you dream about it. Very fast and efficient but they don't take card payment that something is an inconvenience and they don't do delivery.
G. H.
WOWSERS! This place was so good I had to come back the next day!
Food was delicious, fast and cheap. There is nice but limited indoor and outdoor seating as well as an easy take away option. The takoyaki (octopus balls) are particularly tasty with a light puffy inside.
You can bring your own drinks for a small fee of £1.50 per person which is great if you can grab a seat.
If I lived in Brighton I'd probably live at this restaurant instead!
D. D.
OMG, fantastic! Great price point, delicious, quick service! Definitely worth a stop!
L. L. R. P.
Amazing authentic Japanese food. Fast service and great prices. If you’re looking for a place to eat in Brighton I would highly recommend Pompoko !
G. G.
Pompoko is a long established mainstay of Brighton’s favoured eateries, and for good reason. The food, at an unbelievably reasonable price point, is delicious. The menu has a wide range of Japanese favourite dishes ranging from curry, don (rice and meat) and noodles, as well as regular specials which I am always partial to. The setting is shabby but in an inviting way, service is with a smile. Only downside is cash only, but the experience is worth a trip to the cash point come rain or shine.
f.
Amazing food with plenty of veggie options! The service was really fast and the food was super affordable and just hit the spot, I had the tofu curry and will definitely visit again!
B. W.
Lovely food, served very quickly. Was cash only though, which meant a trip to the cash machine before we could order.
T.
Want something nice and quick, this is the place to go. I called this comfort food. One down thing here is that they only take cash, however this didn’t stop me from going there.
E. L. C.
Delicious don buri bowls for only £6.
The interior is simple, pay at the counter (cash only) and there's also the option to BYOB for £1.50 per person.
B. H.
Potentially the tiniest but greatest gem in Brighton. This unassuming little Japanese restaurant is tucked away in the very center of the city. As you enter you’re aware of how small it is, but don’t let that put you off from squeezing in.
The food is, simple but exquisite. It’s genuine Japanese, made and served by people who care, who wish you well, and glow at compliments to the food. I hope you understand how glowing this review is, because honestly I think everyone should enjoy the food here at least once.
I’d recommend the Tori Chilli Don, yakitori, and some spring rolls. Make sure to bring cash, as they don’t take card.
H. C.
Food beyond reproach! Tasty, well presented and most enjoyable. It's very popular so you might have to wait for a table if you want to eat there but they also do take away. The menu is extensive and reasonably priced. Highly recommended!
A. A.
What a great find! Walked down the street of this small but wonderful spot a million times without noticing it and I'm very grateful for my boss pointing it out. As someone who must see a photo of what they order I love that there's a picture of everything on the menu on the wall/menus. The food is fresh and doesn't leave you feeling gross like some overly processed Asian food. It is cash only here but you get your moneys worth with the portions they offer. I look forward to going back soon to try more things on the menu
R. T.
Tasty prawns rice dish and chicken gyoza. Affordable prices for Brighton. Great service. Would gladly repeat!
S. N.
This place is a real gem! The food is authentic, good value and absolutely delicious. The environment is simple and authentic too, the staff are lovely and work so hard.
I left my backpack by the table when I ordered and a member of staff kindly put it behind the counter assuming it had been left behind (thank you)
The service was very fast, the food was delicious, what more is there to say... Go and support this business - its wonderful!
K. T.
Well-lit and popular area on a Thurs. night with delicious snacks. Had the veg fried rice which was ok & guest had very good miso soup, ebi fried ++. Will come back.
e. h.
Great food and excellent value! Only two negatives; I would have appreciated a little more sauce with the tempura/spring rolls (see picture) & it’s cash only and that definitely isn’t very covid friendly at the minute.
R. B.
Always my No.1 place for lunch! Healthy food and good value! Staff were nice 👍🏻
E. E.
My no.1 place for lunch. It's just the perfect price for what I expect of Japanese food.
S.
Out of the world amazing food, can recommend this place :) no cards, cash only which is Abit of a shame
A. R.
Absolutely authentic and delicious food! Very reasonable prices and huge portions, amazing price for value. Feels like a real japanese restaurant, service is very quick, staff is friendly and proffesional. Offering many japanese drinks including Ramune soda.
O. G.
Went in and struggled for seating, but it's only because the place is really nice and popular. Food comes out really quickly and amazing price for what you get!
J. H.
Always excellent quality food and great service! Absolutely love eating here and have done for a number of years! Love the Gyoza dumplings!
J. D.
Always come here when I'm able to!! This picture show some BBQ Ribs and some sesame seed chicken and tempura. Always delicious and fast service!
B. m. b.
Always a favourite of my wife and I. If you're going there might be a wait since it's quite small but the food is great and worth it
R. H.
Great food for the price. The most expensive main only for like £6.50. BOYB for £1.50 pp. Bargain!!
Cash only.
J. C. (.
Be prepared for very little space to move in, but it's worth it
R. S.
Nice food, quick and friendly service, and the food is served quite quick too. Decent prices and good portion size.
R. Z.
Cheap and large delicious meals. Service is very quick. Amazing place! Really recommend it.
S. C.
I decided to eat here as my usual lunch choice wasn't open. I'm glad I came here because the food tastes like I was in Japan! That's the one thing I look for in authentically flavoured food. And this place did not disappoint me!
I ordered a Katsudon, Oyakudon and some gyoza. The food was really amazing and like something I would get in Japan.
The only thing that would be nice is to make it more of meal so they could include a miso soup and some japanese pickles. But other that I thoroughly enjoyed the food.
T. H.
They have a wide selection of Japanese "donburi"(rice bowl dish) menu.
I ordered "pork katsudon".
It looked similar to katsudon in Japan.
Taste was a bit different Japan's one , but it was good. I also ordered "takoyaki", but it was completely different from it in Japan.
You can choose take away or eat in.
You can choose eating inside seat or outside seat as well.
However, they don't have many tables so I recommend you to go there small group.
N. T.
Such great food and really fast service, particularly recommend the miso soup!
S. B.
Good food...Good portions and good price...Brighton institution.
R. J.
Really tasty food and quick service. Delicious Tofu and miso soup! Great for lunch hours from work. Bit busy inside but nice to sit outside.
E. P.
OK. Japanese eatery with mostly fried food, rice noodle and rice bowl with various toppings (if you after sushi or sashimi this is not place)
A. D.
Always excellent quality for the price.
Super quick and yummy food.
N. M.
I have visited Pompoko on numerous occasions, and it is probably my favourite place to eat in Brighton. The service is quick, the food is extremely affordable, but, most importantly - it is delicious. There are a number of various options you can choose from, depending on your dietary preferences. A must-see/eat!
Pictured is 21. Tori Chilli Don.
A. B. (.
Great food, fast service, left feeling very full
J. Z.
Only the best Japanese food in Brighton, and at very pleasant prices, too! Last visit was so good that I'm happy to ignore the fact that our server was rude.
H.
There were alot of good reviews so I tried them out, however it wasn't the best. The food arrived far too fast for it to have been fresh, it was obviously just microwaved. It has got decent prices but the food was a bit flavourless. I can't say this for all the staff but one was quite rude but the rest were lovely
R. E.
Food here was great, very comforting and authentic. I was surprised that the price is so low! Would thoroughly recommend.
S. R.
Amazing yakitori, always a treat whenever I get to visit!
许.
Cheap yet delicious. Will definitely go again by any chances.
C. C.
Lovely food but It is inconvenient that they only accept cash.
C. W.
Cozy, friendly and delicious cheap food. A great place to meet up with friends for something to eat as long as you don't want lots of privacy. Everything feels very fresh so is never greasey like a takeaway although you can order to go. Cash only so if you don't have any money on you just go round the corner to the cash machine next to the tesco express opposite the library.
N. Z.
Good food for a great price! Had chilli tofu with rice and it was delicious!
L. K.
Good value tasty food, affordable for students and better than other places you'll find in terms of value. Limited vegan options and could be more generous with sauces, but all in all a nice little place with great tofu and a wholesome atmosphere
D.
Amazing food, amazing prices! Highly recommended definitely a repeat visit
A. L.
Very affordable prices and food was served fast. The vegetable-filled soya beancurd skin rolls (yubamaki, item 8. on the menu) were amazing!!! The donburi had a clean and simple taste, and was satisfying.
M. W.
Amazing restaurant with great prices
D. B.
Great food, great value, food came to the table extremely quick
J.
It's what you would expect for the cheap prices. The puddings are good though, mochi ice cream especially.
H. S.
Always busy here and rightly so. A popular place because its great food 👏
C. A.
Delicipus Japanese food at a great price. Always have to visit. Small, crowded and delightful. Delicious Kathy chicken curry and tori chilli don !! xx
J. P.
One of Brightons hidden gems, Pompoko has affordable, super tasty and quick Japanese food (to eat in or take away - plus they do BYOB as well). It's great for vegetarians as well with various options. If you're after a quick lunch, that isn't overpriced, check it out. 2022 update - still as great as ever!
A. P.
Food absolutely amazing service fast just they not taking cards..
A. P.
Great little Japanese restaurant. Cheap and tasty. Only downside for me is that they only take cash.
D. T.
My favourite Japanese restaurant in Brighton. Friendly staff and good value for your money!
H. M.
Had a takeaway of the tofu curry and chilli don and took it to the park. Lovely food and really well packaged
T. R.
Like dining in a small traditional house, which provides Japanese authenticity, while enjoying a delicious and very affordable meal. Breaded Chicken Curry and Rice (12) is also halal. Nice one 👍
Ps. Cash Only
C. M.
First of all they should not call their guests "Mate". Second they never accept card payments especially nowadays in COVID-19 times. And lastly their prices are over priced in my opinion for the amount of food you get. In the past year you have got more for less money. They were closed throughout the pandemic, not even takeaways. They should get less than three stars from me; only because their food is tasty, I give them the three stars!
T. M.
Very old school, great presentation friendly staff, had the special Kimchi ramen
A. M. R.
Good price (less than £20 or two courses and two starters) but the quality is not the best one. Quick service though.
j. b.
It's basic but great. Been going for years. The food is nothing fancy but very tasty. it is very affordable. BYOB last time I went. Tables outside and inside and outside.
K. W.
Amazing place can't believe I've not found this hidden gem before. The food was delicious I had the fried chicken curry all great value for money. Staff were friendly will be back again :)
L. S.
Very fast service, despite busy time, the tofu and chill was nice. They have upstairs seating too.
D. C.
I absolutely love Pompoko. Is the only place in Brighton that serves actual good food at a reasonable price. The staff there is the best in town. They don’t come and bother while you eat like all the other places do and when you ask them something they do it straight away without any fuss. I can’t wait for the pandemic to finish so I can go and enjoy the service and the place again :)
A. M.
This restaurant is excellent! We had a very nice meal and staff are very kind
Excellent ratio quality and price
P. C.
Great food at a good price. Staff are friendly
A. W. (.
Great affordable Japanese cuisine, Vegan options available ^^
D. C.
Basic but don't let that fool you as food was great
N.
Simple, delicious and affordable. What’s not to like?
O. H.
Absolutely fantastic, the food was top notch and very reasonably priced
M. A.
Great value for money. Had a 15 minute wait to get in but worth it
M. J.
What a amazing food I just experienced!!!! 100 stars from me.
Delicious, authentic and price wise, absolutely bargain!!
I'll visit always from now on!!
Superb!! Pompoko!!!
J. L.
Very high quality food and low prices. Not a huge amount of seating and have to pay by cash. But still a fantastic place to eat
E.
My favourite place to takeout in Brighton! Always lovely staff and lovely food!!!
A. T. S.
Very cheap and great food, nice staff can get very busy
M. B.
Lovely restaurant in Brighton. We went in a big group and ordered various small dishes to share. Everything was very tasty! They were also great at dealing with the crazy candles my husband had brought for my birthday cake
J. J.
Fanatic casual dinning or takeaway spot. The food is delicious
A. S.
It's really affordable and the food is very tasty
N. J.
First time eating here again for years and it was just as good as we remember. Fast, affordable and delicious food and a popular hidden gem of Brighton.
S.
First time, but won't be the last. Great price and tasted wonderful!
A. T.
My absolute favourite spot for cheap eats/ takeaways in Brighton. The food is absolutely delicious and quick. I recommend Pompoko to everyone I know who goes to Brighton and I eat here at least once every time I'm in town.
D.
Great Tasty food swift service makes a change from bland chains I would go here rather than wag a mamma any day
E. E.
Food was delicious and excellent value for money.
Food arrived promptly.
S. D.
Decent food with the reasonable cheap price.
G. B.
Always great food that is inexpensive, with friendly and swift service. Eat in family style or take out offered.
D. R.
cheap and nice :))
J. C.
Just WOW! Super friendly staff , food is always tasty and never bland!! Is a highy recommended place to wither sit inside and eat or order for takeaway !
C. A.
Great value, service wasn't amazing, but still worth a visit! Not BYOB as we had heard and no alcohol served. Chilli chicken donburi is a dream, it's thigh but not fatty. Though not spicy sadly. Loved everything we ate. Everything was good in here. I highly recommended.
M. G.
Very cheap and so tasty! My new favourite!!
A. C.
Love this place - always buzzing with people - which speaks for itself. It's not fine dining, but it's great honest food.
S.
Cheap and tasty. Great place!
J. P.
Tasty food, much better than alot of other places that serve Japanese food in Brighton. Cheap aswell!
L. K.
Best quick stop Asian food in town. If you haven't tried it yet, stop wasting your time and order yourself a chicken or pumpkin katsu. You're welcome
D. B.
There's a reason it's so busy, very cheap and yummy
G. W.
Brilliant food and fast. Always come here for a quick lunch.
A. D.
Small eat-in/takeaway serving small tasty dishes with far east inspiration. Decent selection for vegetarians and vegans, I'd recommend the pumpkin curry. All also relatively inexpensive for Brighton at £5-7 a main dish. My only real problem is that it's still strictly cash-only in 2020 which is a bit annoying.
A. S.
Gorgeous Japanese food at a price which is sometimes unbelievable. Every portion of food I've ever ordered from there in 5 years has always been five stars. The price is the icing on the cake as you could happily feed 4 people for under £20
A. J.
Great food and quick service, it's a bit cramped but well worth a visit. Just remember to have cash!
L. P.
Best place for cheap Asian food in Brighton, food is always delicious, consistent, and affordable.
D.
The crowd is usually a little bit packed but the food is definitely AMAZING!
S. “.
Probably the best restaurant i’ve ever visited in my life. Food never fails, service is always speedy and efficient.
Such a shame that I don’t live in the area anymore as I crave it all the time.
M. R.
Absolutely AMAZING Food! My husband and I first discovered Pompoko when we were students at Sussex Uni; and 12 years later we still pop in for a bite to eat every single time we're in Brighton. The food is so delicious - just writing this review makes me hungry- the ingredients are top quality and the prices are unbeatable. Honestly, go to Pompoko - you won't regret it.
H.
Very nice food, fairly reasonable priced, wouldn't give 5 starts because the portions are slightly on the smaller side :)
G.
Cheap place but serious lack of sauce in the food. The tofu was definitely better than the chicken here. But nice location and a good cheap eat. The honey ginger sauce was good but the BBC sauce on the same chicken was a bit meh. Still nicer than a meal deal!
C. W.
Best quick eat in Brighton. Been coming here for years and the quality and prices are still great. My regular is the chicken nam ban don, super tasty and solid staple. Got shared sides of gyoza, tempura prawns and spring rolls, all superb. Not allowing BYOB at the moment due to covid but were happy to bring water for the table. Can’t go wrong at Pompoko!
H. R. H.
The best Japanese food in Brighton! The food is cheap, around £5-6 and super yummy. Only downside is that they only take cash, so be prepared to take out some before you stand in line
L. J.
Amazing and authentic food, super fast service but CASH ONLY. It's always busy and there's often a queue.
P. D.
Excellent, tasty and fast food - not in the burger chain way - to eat in or take away. If you are new to Japanese food this is a safe first step, with options that everyone will love.
Very reasonable prices as each main dish is around £5.
I would recommend to anyone as it's one of my go to favourites.
Very near to the theatre too.
W. W.
Pompoko is great and an essential part of the Brighton experience. Tasty food, low prices and friendly staff. I really don't have a bad thing to say about this place. After ordering your food is ready in just one or two minutes. Eating in is pleasant and relaxed. Alternatively you can opt for take away and the pavilion gardens are only a few hundred metres away.
J. W.
Absolutely love this place! A brilliant and quaint independent eatery in Brighton. A large selection of different meals. Portion sizes are generous. Most importantly, the food is tasty and arrives fast!
S. R.
Edit: I'm taking a couple of stars off because the food quality has gone down. Nowadays, the tofu is likely to taste old. The only way to serve food this quickly is to have it pre-made made and waiting, so I never deluded myself, but now that I have tasted the 'oldness' a couple of times I'm definitely less keen to come here.
I have been coming here for years. The food is delicious and has an authentic Japanese flavour. The portions are huge and great value for money, it's possible to leave with a full stomach for £5.
Fast service, the food usually comes in 10 minutes and the waiting staff are polite and hard working.
It can be very busy and it's a very small restaurant which can lead to waiting times of ten minutes or more, so I recommend having a back up plan in case you cannot wait.
Overall, if you're a fan of Japanese food and you're in Brighton this is a must.
L. F.
Simple no fuss decor, simple food but really tasty and well cooked. Really enjoyed the meal! Would definitely recommend (but maybe give the tea a miss!)
M. J.
My favorite place in Brighton! Very good prices for very authentic Japanese food. The simple meals are my absolute favorites.
Only possible downside is the cash-only policy but that is never truly a problem considering there is an ATM not 1 minute away.
I keep coming back and I enjoy it more and more each time I go.
H. R.
No frills Asian restaurant but great for a cheap quick bite to eat in Brighton. It’s obviously not fine dining Japanese cuisine but when it’s compared to the price point of a sandwich in Pret A Manger, I would definitely choose here.
S. M.
Cheap and delicious Japanese food!
F. F.
Food is good, but the proportion rice to other ingredients was not very good on the Don
Also, who does not take card during a pandemic in 2021?
F. H.
Always a go to when I was a student. If you like rice dishes then go but I find the food can be a little heavy but I think thats just me. It can be very busy but it does have bring your own. The food is served fairly fast and it can be a little cramped. Very reasonably priced! For a quick bite.
A. H.
Excellent food for a shoestring dining budget.
Bring your own alcohol and pay £1 per head for corkage and glasses, or have a pot of tea.
This is the best place for a very speedy, filling and tasty two course meal with change from £10.
Expect to wait outside on most evenings. Takeaway also available.

Although it was a very busy day and the restaurant was almost full we could get a table for 2. And the stuff was extremely nice. Their food is just simply amazing and very cheap. We got a lot of food for a tiny price. Very highly recommended. A 10 out of 10 experience.
T. G.
Excellent food for a great price. Service was extremely quick and friendly, and staff went the extra mile, bringing out water for our dog without even being asked. Definitely will be a repeat customer in the future. I recommend the takoyaki. It's delicious.
G. D.
Not bad. Is it what it is. A small Japanese place. Hygiene leaves a lot to be desired. The whole place needs cleaning and repainting, but the food was decent. I do think you can do a lot more with it though. So much potential.
S. B.
I love japanese food‼️‼️❤️❤️❤️ and pompoko is very cheap and delicious!!!
T. V.
Nice food at an affordable price. Go here as a good budget option.
r.
Fantastic place, fast, cheap and good quality food. You get exactly what you pay for. I'm vegan and i love they have different options not just one (like in some places), my favourite dishes are Tofu Chili Don and Pumpkin Curry. Spring rolls are delicious😍
S. S.
Great authentic Japanese food.
G. M.
Great food, and menu is very accurate with photos of food, easy to order and very quick efficient service. It's best for going in and ordering and waiting to take it out as the only negative about the place is it's such nice food it tends to get overcrowded during eating hours so to eat inside it is a bit hectic and crowded a lot of the time but they do have a nice upstairs, still a bit compact, other than this though the food is great and the dishes are a good size, 2 dishes tend to be great amount.
A. D.
Good Japanese food here. As well as being extremely cheap. They also allow you to bring your own drinks (tesco across the road) and just charge £1 per head for it. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
K. M.
I love this place! It's absolutely perfect for a quick bite in town, pre-show or post-shop. The quality might not always be top notch, but the speed of service and portion sizes are spot on. The dumplings are lovely, and the chicken breadcrumb curry is a safe bet for newbies.
E. G.
Our favourite Japanese food in Brighton, been a going here for years and years! Always delicious, fast and never disappoints! Terayakk chicken dons, seasme dons and all the starters are just super yum!
E. M.
Pompoko is such a lovely place. Been there a few times and I've always enjoyed the food. You can bring your own drinks and prices are great! Super recommended.
R.
This is a good place for it’s price bracket. It sells itself as a Japanese restaurant but I’d say it falls somewhere between your standard Chinese takeaway and an authentic Japanese restaurant. The food is cheap and tasty, the interior is nice but packed and the staff are run off their feet but somehow manage to keep up and deliver a good service. I wouldn't go every day but if you want quick, cheap food that tastes good then this is a handy place to know about.
J. F.
Great portions of food and lovely staff. The rice dishes and both ice cream flavours are excellent. Knocked off some points as the dumplings were very bad.
B. U.
Can't knock it. BYOB, great food served so so quickly and tastes delicious. Sticky rice is to die for. It's great for students or if you're on a budget. You can't book a table but you'll never wait long.
H.
Delicious authentic Japanese food, cheaply priced. Best Tofu!
S.
Shockingly quick services.. Faster than mcdonald's! :O
If your party is larger than 4, might be a good idea to book a table. Card payments are not accepted unfortunately. Food is good but feels like last night's leftovers? Good leftovers mind you.
C. R.
Nice food and good value for money.
M. B.
I went there to eat curry because I really wanted to try it. The place is always filled with lots of people and if you have eaten their food, you know why ;) It is really delicious and I never got my food so fast like there. It was my favorite food to eat when we were visiting Brighton, wish we had this restaurant here :)
W. W.
Satisfying meal for around £5. Lots of choices but all well done. Polite staff and your food arrives in a few minutes. Chicken nan ban don from pompoko is a something I'm pretty much always in the mood for. The takeaway bowls are pretty good for reusing as pasta boxes too.
l. s.
Love love Pompoko.! Their timing for fast food is outstanding!
The food to take away is super and plenty to eat.
Customer care is a Happy one always, eat in or out. Very reasonably priced.
Although small and always busy I can't fault the service.
😁😁😁
t. c.
Great value for money and amazing food. I'm not really to bothered by rice but combined with the sauce I ate it all! Prices are so good that I got 2 starters. Top quality
F. S.
I kept going back there whilst I stayed in Brighton. Food is great and the service is even better. I felt welcome and Mim made sure I had my food right away. She even helped me to choose which was so nice. I highly recommend it, especially if you’re looking for a quick tasty meal.
Ann is funny and straightforward, make sure you ask her for some sweets. 😅
a. p.
Best Japanese food in brighton without a doubt the owner is a wonderful man!
A.
Best and cheapest japanese food in brighton. The portions are also super generous (especially for the curry). A bit busy on saturday afternoons but wait time isnt that short and food comes really fast!! I will go back again!
T. M.
My favourite cheap Japanese restaurant. Nice little hole in the wall. Quick service, yummy food and overall a good spot for dinner out with friends. Don't expect anything fancy - this is the basic to top all basics. But who cares? Food's cheap and good :-) Try to get in early otherwise you won't get a seat - there's often a queue leading out onto the street! But they do takeaway so it's not the end of the world :-)
T. F.
Amazing food and fast service. Ordered and got my food in 5 minutes which was amazing. ❤
N. G.
Extreme Fast Good Cheap Food.
Place is Comfy but if its full it gets a bit tight.
We had our food after 1-2 minutes, it was not too hot and delicious.
Nice Atmosphere and good prices.
J. L.
Quick service, great price, good food and amazing atmosphere. Better than supporting huge chains like Itsu and Wagamama’s which are in close proximity. Would recommend to anyone and everyone.
E.
Japanese curries and dons, amazing food at a very good price. To top it all off it's only £1 each to bring your own drinks. Cash only though so make sure to bring some with you.
A. C.
Wonderful place with really good homemade Japanese food. The price is amazing too! This is definitely my place to go in Brighton. I wish they had a location in London!
s. a.
Amazing!!!!! Come here for the 1st time tonight and just amazing!!
K. R.
Excellent prices, really quick service... be sure to eat quickly as the place gets really busy and staff will gladly usher you out as soon as you have finished. The food itself is basic, but amazing when you consider how good the prices are. They also do take away.
S. C.
Very nice food. Very nice people. I would suggest they expand, in peak time it completely fills up and you need to wait for a bit. The food and price pay off so still 5 stars.
K. H.
I've been going there for over 10 years, and what's more to say then they haven't disappointed once. I especially love their pumpkin curry it's just lush:)
F. J.
Pompoko was recommended to me by a friend and now I'm recommending it to you! The food was yummy, the service was quick and easy and the price was good. There are plenty of vegetarian options and outdoor seating for a nice day. I especially enjoyed the katsu.
C. H.
I think the phrase "Japanese café" might best describe Pompoko. There's no fuss and no pomp.
The focus is on simple, good food at a price that represents very good value. The portion sizes I received were gratifying and everything about the meal was thoroughly enjoyable.
As well as the cost and taste, I also appreciated the shirts, calendars and pieces of art that were for sale and displayed on the walls and behind the counter.
One partial criticism is that the pictures and descriptions of the dishes were quite similar so that I only perceived a short list of types of meal. However, this may have been inexperience on my part.
The restaurant always looked busy when I passed and other customers quickly arrived after I went in on a Sunday morning. I can now certainly understand why and I'll definitely be returning when I next visit Brighton.
S. G.
My favourite place in Brighton. Its super cozy, super friendly staff, food is the best around!!! Everything from the menu is amazing! Cash only but cash point not far from it if you forget. Must visit!!!
D. F.
Never disappointing. Fine dining it is not, but when you have a hole to fill and you want it done quickly and with extremely tasty food this is where to come! I can see why some people are obsessed!
Tofu options are great here too.
I. G.
Delicious food, quick service, and really inexpensive for what you get.
R. O.
Great value for money
J. S.
Seating upstairs and downstairs, although it was very busy when we went. CASH ONLY, so keep that in mind, though thankfully the prices are really good here - was able to get to two miso soups, two tofu curry and yubamaki (which I've only ever had in one other place) for $15.
T. A.
For quick, delicious and cheap Japanese street food there's no better place than here. Pompoko's Katsudons are amazing. Dining in is a bit of a hassle though as the place is quite small. Do wish they'd upgrade to a bigger place with how popular they are!
L.
The food is very nice along with the price. The staff are very friendly and it is based in a great location. Plenty of room always and once again the good is very nice. Oh and how could I forget, if you pay an extra £1 you can bring your own alcohol.
M. P.
Great value and yummy curry
J. B.
Really nice food, lots to choose from and very quick service. Will definitely go again. Cash only and bring your own drinks
B. M.
Small, casual, independent Japanese food restaurant. Loved my visit here as the food is very cheap and arrived at the table super fast. The food itself was very tasty and well sized, will definitely be coming back here loads!
C. B.
Cheap, delicious Japanese food and VERY quick service! By the time you’ve weaved your way through the tightly packed queueing bodies and back to your table, the food is only minutes away itself! Cannot recommend enough.
Also if you pay a quid you’re allowed to drink your own alcohol as they don’t serve it there, so be sure to go to the Tesco round the corner beforehand to pick up some tinnies!
P. C.
fantastic little Japanese restaurant serving extremely tasty food nice and quickly, highly recommend
M.
I don't even know where to begin with a review for this place. I have been a patron of Pompoko for more years than I can remember and everyone I have indoctrinated into the Pompoko life has joined the fold peacefully (and very willfully!)
I have tried everything Pompoko has to offer and have never had a bad meal here. The customer service is excellent and all the staff are amazing.
It's a nice cosy little restaurant and food wait times have never been long, even when they are super busy (which is a lot of the time). It's great for a small snack or proper meal both alone and with company of any size!
See you soon!
D. S.
Fantastic cheap Japanese, been coming here for years. Great food.
S. B.
Awesome! Really good value authentic Japanese food. Quick service makes it ideal for popping in for lunch or before going out in Brighton. Probably not a place for a date.
A. C.
Great food, lost a point for no card machine
A. I.
The service is very quick - especially considering how busy they always are. The food is cooked to perfection and very authentic, as is the decor. The place has an overall nice atmosphere however the main let down is the very small and cramped space.
J. P.
Excellent service and wonderful food highly recomended
T. L.
Excellent Japanese food. Have spent 3 months living across Japan and I am glad I found a place which serves food that resemblance Japanese cuisine that well yet is at my door step! Served quickly and at reasonable prices.
J. C.
Super casual Japanese eatery with great food and quick service. Cash only payment. Can bring your own drinks (for a small fee) if you like.
Recommended!
Y.
The place is small but the food is worth their prices. The foods are not top quality but is generally good enough because it's cheap. The services is ok. I would like to go again if I'm finding somewhere cheap and easily to eat.
G. Y.
Pompoko has decided on what niche they would like to fill and have done it well. They are a quick ‘Japanese’ casual restaurant dishing out rice bowls. On top of the rice are a multitude of different toppings, but all revolving around the same proteins. It’s cheap, fast and tasty, just what you want sometimes and the turnaround from time of order is fast. Takeaway orders are probably the bulk of their trade but they do have tables there. Go there for a simple filling meal delivered with a smile and walk away with change for your next drink!
I. C.
Awesome Japanese food for around £5. Super quick service and the food is always good. I’ve tried many of the items on the menu and enjoyed all of them. Especially love the mochi ice cream for dessert!
Y.
Great food, incredibly fast service, and the prices are so low for the quality.
Make sure to get there early because it's a small place and it's in high demand.
Would recommend!
M. H.
Really recommend. Everything is very cheap and you get a good portion size, maybe you get more if you eat in? But the takeaway option is top. Not perfect quality, but definitely a favourite.
M. L.
Fast service, very friendly staff, and the food is both delicious as well as incredibly affordable. Can be quite busy at times, which isn't helped by the small size of the building, but this is simply testament to the quality of the food produced here.
T. W.
If you are in a hurry I would highly recommend coming here. The food quality has gone down slightly over the years but the staff is still as friendly as ever. 5.20 will get you a big portion of food. I recommend the number 18 with no mayo, (add mayo if your a mayo fan).
L. T.
Delicious, speedy and extremely well priced food!
C.
Always good, cheap and fast
H. B.
Really friendly staff, they put a little reserved sticker on the seat I was intending on sitting at when I had to run to the cash point to get some money out. It's cash only so I'd recommend that you go to the Tesco round the corner for cash first! Also, get the tofu chilli don, it's amazing. My favourite place for a quick, cheap, and filling lunch when I visit Brighton.
n. m.
Really nice food, first time eating at Pompoko, might even be the best Katsu Curry I've ever eaten!! Would definitely go back next time I'm in Brighton
T. R.
Super quick, basic but tasty enough dishes. You get what you pay for, for a simple very casual hot lunch. Clearly popular, but was plenty of space when I went. Would go again
A.
This is just the best Japanese food in Brighton, super priced and fast service.
Be warned, setting is limited, but on a sunny day, just head down the road to the pavilion gardens for a picnic.
S. D.
Service is fast which is appreciated given the lack of space inside, however this has resulted in my order being wrong on occasion. Food arrives worryingly fast compared to other Japanese restaurants, however I have no complaints about the food as it's always affordable, piping hot and tasty.
D. F.
Really tasty Japanese food at really good prices, served in a quick & efficient manner. If you are short for time this is the place to go
Please note that it is CASH only no debit/credit cards accepted
J. P.
Friendly kind staff, food comes quickly, tasty & authentic, quite inexpensive and you can take your own booze. No need to book just walk in, but can get busy on Fridays & Saturday. Perfect place for a quick bite before catching a show at the Dome.
A. W. (.
When I was living in Brighton, I always ate here. Fast, filling, satisfying, basic but tasty, cheap, and the venue is lovely. Cosy, relaxed, two floors and Japanese art and design. It's a proper locals joint for the international-spirited.
D. J. R.
Quality food, fast and easy service and great prices as always!
A. I.
Pompoko is definitely one of the best cheap eats in Brighton. There's a great range of options and it's all really good value for money. The food arrives quickly and the staff are all friendly but it should be noted that it's cash only which can be a bit annoying.
A. C.
Superb. Visited Brighton and found myself here eating a delicious katsu curry. Highly recommend. Wish I bring this place back to NYC! Note: Cash only.
D. D.
Cheap and cheerful, we ordered a meal for 2 with drinks and came to just over a tenner. Quality of food and portions sizes was good. Venue a little small though but that is minor in my opinion
J. N.
Great, affordable place and delicious food. Nice to stay inside when it's not too crowded (as it often is). Nice seating outside in the sunside of the building, but quite noisy from the constant traffic going just outside.
N. O.
Wow!!! Soo happy with the food, very tasty and reasonably priced. I love the bbq pork (forgot what it is called).
I am so coming back here!
Staff are so quick, friendly and efficient.
I recommend for everybody to come here and dine.
D. H.
Very polite and helpful staff, great food and great atmosphere. Not entirely authentic Japanese but still inexpensive tasty food served quickly. We will eat here again.
M. K.
This place is quite amazing actually. If you want to experience a small authentic Japanese restaurant this is the place to be (disclaimer: I lived in Japan for a year). The place doesn't sport the usual modernist Japanese decor that is common in western Japanese restaurant but looks indeed like the house of some family, running a restaurant.
The food is very tasty, the size leaves nothing to desire and is quite inexpensive. Also, the dishes are very much like what you get in Japan with Japanese curry (kare), Donburi and Yakisoba.
Haven't been so excited about a place in a long time, I love it.
Z. W.
My go to when friends are visiting from put of town. We'll priced and quick delicious food 😋
J. L.
Pomopoko is my favorite takeaway when I want to feel semi healthy. All the dishes are reasonably priced and all taste great. The actual restaurant is tiny and customers are packed in however its all part of the experience when dining in there. I just wished they delivered!
Y. G.
Very tasty £5 rice bowl dishes, great gyoza. Quick service, casual laid back small cafe style venue. BYOB for £1. Cash only. Serves till 11pm
R. B.
Cheap, delicious food in an informal setting. Order at the counter and they'll bring your food over. Can get very busy so arrive early, get food to take away or be prepared to wait for a table.
M. “. K.
The food is delicious! Great range of meat and vegetarian options. The yakitori skewers are to die for! All roce dishes come with sticky rice so can be eaten with spoon as well as chopsticks which i really appreciate. The service is excellent and seating is absolutely fine but i do hope that the size of the restaraunt will increase to accomodate for more people as it is a very popular spot. And if card payment would be available as well then this placewould be 5 stars!
J. L.
Very nice everyday japanese food, super tasty and truly japanese. The prices are awesome. I recommend take away because it is hard to get seats inside. Everything is delicious.
M. G.
This is fast food, Japanese (Korean) style. Unfortunately it's just decent. Sometimes the rice is a bit wet and the food is average. It's cheap and fast. You can walk down the road and eat in the pavilion grounds.
A. M. (.
The best place to go for Thai food on a budget.
Food is gorgeous and unbelievably well priced... And you'll be amazed at how quick they bring the food out.
I was skeptical at first, but they've won me over every time.
C. W.
Small, unpretentious Japanese food. Just the thing after a concert across the road at the Brighton Dome. Order at the bar, cash only more like an upmarket takeaway but the food spoke for itself, quick service and delicious.
M. F.
Amazing food and great service, there is options for everyone including vegan, i regularly travel from Eastbourne just for thier food, my favourite place in Brighton to eat no doubt about it!
J. D.
Great little place with fantastic food and it's surprisingly cheap too. I can't recommend going here and trying some of the top 5 dishes on the list by the counter enough.
g.
Go-to place if you need a quick meal that's (mildly) healthy as the service is so quick it's basically fast food. Cash only which is a bit annoying but BYOB for £1 corkage which is great!
R. M.
This is the epitome of hipster Brighton. It’s so popular it Garda to get space to sit down and eat, the queues are extra long BUT the food is worth the wait and especially at the prices! Brilliant pescatarian options, nice lunch option in the heart of Brighton.
M. M.
Very quick little place to get simple Japanese food. No sushi here; you'll be getting currys, soups, rice or noodle dishes. The food is very tasty though and a decent amount in a main for £5. You'll never want wagamama's katsu curry again!
G. M. A.
Cosy little Japanese cafe with quick, friendly service and cheap food that's good value for money. t
They only serve one type of ramen at a time, and instead focus on a variety of curry, yakisoba and donburi dishes. The beef yakisoba was overcooked meaning the meat was dry, but the miso ramen was on point. Definitely worth a visit for a quick meal!
S. N.
Good food for the price, very sweet and a lot of rice. Always a lot of people and that’s for a reason. Quick service! Be aware they only take cash!
D.
Best Japanese rest in town. Great food at a an almost unbelievable price for Brighton! (good cheap food) One of my first points of call, I'm a regular here.
a. r.
Very good place, nice service and amazing food. A good selection of food, very quick and abundant. 100% recommend if you want a nice calm lunch or dinner
L. L.
The food here is amazing and I have been going here for years. It can get quite busy at lunch time, but they do offer take away. The goyza and the pork katsu are my favourite dishes.
J. W.
My favourite food in Brighton
S. J.
Great authentic food, fast and friendly service, very well priced. You're able to drink your own drink for a small price.
L. C.
Want a quick, cheap & delicious meal before going elsewhere in Brighton? Pompokos is the place to go. Good veggie options, especially if you like tofu. Suggest trying the tea as a drink, or if you fancy alcohol you can bring your own booze in for £1. The chilli dons are the best if you like things with some spice.
N.
Love this place BUT basically zero gluten free options :(
A. M.
Simple Japanese cuisine served in a casual and cash only central location.
The picture menu aided me in my selection of Breaded Chicken Curry & Edemame Bean side. Sat outside we were joined by a friendly stranger who shared squid dumplings and a positive outlook on life.
Their BYOB corkage charge is a round pound, a fair price considering how much we drank. With a Tesco Express around the corner I'd recommend getting a bottle between two & cashback for your meal.
m.
Excellent food! Perfect portions and very tasty. Also very nice employees and nice mood in the restaurant
H. W.
Delicious food, extremely fast service, welcoming staff. I would imagine getting a table in busy times is hard but the turnover is quick so I'd be happy to wait. It's worth it!
d. l.
It is what it is. Bring your own booze and little to no service. But what it does do, it does well and that is great Japanese Street food. I loved every dish I had and I had a few!!
J. F.
Really cute nice little corner in Brighton to have some shrimpage 🦐 and wtv you want.
O. J.
Cozy place. Often quite busy. The food is decent. Nothing fancy or anything. Prices are really cheap. Just beware, it is cash only
G. C.
Decent food, super prices.. perfect for students looking for a bargain meal, had the honey ribs and breaded chicken curry with a drink for a tenner.. Can't complain!!
S. D.
Great value £6 meals, decent quality and very quick service.
A. E.
Staff is nice and kind, service is quick, the food is very tasty. The place gets full quick so you can see it's a good place. Prices are normal or even cheap. I really like this place
k.
Delicious, quick and modestly priced Japanese rice food. Unique and healthy fast food takeaway. Can bring your own wine!
C. K.
Busy place especially at lunchtime. Worth the wait as food is delicious! The place is small and cosy so probably not good to take large groups of people to.
L. W.
Pompoko of the kind of place that you almost want to keep a secret. Consistently delicious Japanese food on a friendly, informal setting. This is one of my favourite places to eat in Brighton; a little treat without an extravagant price tag.
A. P.
Cheap, quick, friendly, and tasty. Great for a meal on the go.
Bear in mind they don't serve alcohol, but you're allowed to take your own.
H.
Delicious food with reasonable price. Value for money. Highly recommended for anyone who loves Japanese food.
T. A.
Great food, nice staff too
M. K.
Great food for good prices!
Don't be suprised if you have to wait or don't get a seat. This food is great and many locals know that!
M. D.
Affordable Food and Snacks with great flavour. You might find that sides are a bit small compared to other places, but they're £1,2 each so it allows you to mix up different ones and add even more variety.
R. v. A.
Never fails to deliver, fast, reliable, delicious, affordable Japanese dishes.
V. H.
Super yummy Japanese food in a small restaurant. Highly recommend katsudon and unagi don. Very cheap prices, fast service. You can also bring your own drinks.
t. r.
Been going here for years, always great value, good portion size & tasty food, guess I'll be going back for a few more years. Great place...
D. S.
Great cheap food and really delicious starters. But the place is so tiny and you can hear everyone's conversations and they can hear you too. It is better to go on a weekday when it is not that busy
D. S.
I love Pom Poko. Japanese food made and served by Japanese people. It's not somewhere you would go for a sit-down meal - you order at a bar and drinks come in cans. The furniture is mismatched and the menus and decor are dog-eared but I think this is part of the charm. The food perfectly decent considering it is clearly all pre-prepared (it arrives in minutes) and well-priced. If you are in town and fancy a decent quick, hearty lunch for under a tenner then go to Pom Poko for a change.
J. L.
Delicious. 1.5 pound to bring and drink your own drinks. The noodles are fantastic. The prices affordable.
S. L.
Very reasonable prices for good (but sometimes soggy) food. Service is a mixed bag. Sometimes friendly sometimes a little bit rude but it's always very fast especially for take aways.
Y. M.
Fast and friendly, super tasty and great value for money. You get a big enough portion without leaving & wanting some more. Hands down 5 stars
O. A.
Pompoko is always a must when in Brighton prices are good and the food is gooood it’s cash only though so don’t forget to do that before
G. T.
Wow I loved it. The tastiest food I have had in a long time
A. D.
Absolutely brilliant food, highly recommend the pork don. The prices are pretty cheap too so good for families that eat a lot!
J. B.
Best place for cheap Japanese food. Tastes amazing, great atmosphere. Can get really busy as it's small. Highly recommend
S. H.
Cheap and cheerful. Food comes really quick, and is decent. Not the best you'll ever eat, but for the price is great
P. G. G.
Great food, fast service, amazing value. It is a substantial amount of food for a very low price. My only complaint is that they are CASH ONLY.
P. W.
Small although there’s seating areas upstairs as well. Delicious food, fast service and good prices. You have to order at the till.
S. P.
This place is great, have been there several times over the past few years and it continues to provide great tasting food at a really good price with really fast service. Thank you :)
H. M.
Very cheap - so can’t complain too much! BYOB. I liked the space and atmosphere.
S. K.
One of the best places to eat in Brighton. Lovely food and very well priced. It can be busy and tricky to get a table, and they don't take card. Regardless, it's worth the wait.
j. o.
Don’t let the 3 stars fool you. If you’re hungry go here and get a decent cheap meal, order at the bar, intimate and lively. BYO policy is a nice touch
N. G.
Such great food! I love that this place has stayed the same for so many years! Don't ever change!
B. H.
Great food, great prices and quick service....what more could you ask for!!
D. L.
Authentic small Japanese restaurant. Reasonably priced, friendly staff and brings back Fond memories of time spent in Tokyo. Only downside is they don't serve alcohol
A. V.
Tasty and great value Japanese food. Often if you want to sit down you'll have to cosy up with strangers, but the service is quick and the gyoza alone is more than worth it.
B.
Fun, studenty, Japanese fast food joint, with satisfyingly basic food which is sometimes a bit bland but does the job given the low price.
M. V.
I've been there many time and always love it. Low prices, fast service and good food.
N. K.
Great food everytime we go and its cheap too
S. L.
Lovely, uncomplicated food with genuine flavors and quick service.
O. V.
Hungry...Don't pass this little gem by.Great prices generous portions authentic food and character ... even down to the plastic bowls so typical of far eastern cafes.Busy with both diners and takeaway...fast freindly service excellent !
z. w.
Amazing place... food and service is great and for the price you cannot go wrong.. also pay a £1 and bring your own booze !
L.
Lovely staff, really fast service and incredibly priced food
A. T.
Best Japanese food place in Brighton, cheap, cheerful and so yummy! You can bring your own drinks aswell! Double up on the gyozas as they are amazing
N. B.
Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere, amazing food, the food is so cheap and they do not skimp on the potions. I actually dont want to give this place a good review because it will get too busy and i wont be able to get the best food in Brighton anymore!
A. L.
Good value. Maybe a little overrated but they operate a BYOB policy at just £1 corkage fee per glass so it's a great place for a meal and get together in the evenings.
C. D.
Super small and basic but with so much flavour you cannot ignore it. Highly recommended for a traditional and simple Asian dishes with quick service.
j. w.
fantastic food for the price range; a fairly inexpensive meal
J. P.
Nice little Japanese place near the centre of town, although it feels like your invading some poor Japanese family's dining room, and is more greasy spoon than restaurant. Usually busy with students, and not the place for a civilised meal.
D. B.
One of the secret little delicious eateries in Brighton, Pompoko offers great service and good food at very affordable prices. It might not be the coziest place on Earth, but it doesn't need to be. Pompoko is about food and they excel at that.
E. C.
Great find for a quick bite. The service was fast and the food was delicious. Plenty for vegetarians.
A. B.
We went there for a quick lunch and quick it was. Though the place doesn't look amazing the food was very good and also came really quickly. It was very tasty as well.
C. L.
Great food at great prices!

Cheap and cheerful Japanese food, in an izakaya like setting. It's not licensed but you can bring your own for a £1 corkage fee
M. O.
Fast, cheap no-fuss Japanese restaurant serving mainly rice based dishes. Nothing fancy, but quick friendly service - the other end of the spectrum from Itsu.

Extremely good food. I recommend this over most large restaurants. It's cash only, so come prepared!
A. G.
Fantastic, cheap and quick service what more could you ask for. They don't serve Alcohol but you can bring your own for a corkage fee.

Excellent food for decent price. Quite cramped if you're eating in, but staff are very friendly
V. M.
Amazing food!! :D The staff is friendly and the service it’s quite fast. Only cash by the way.
J. L.
Japanese fast food served quickly, equivalent to a McDonalds in terms of Brighton's Japanese food scene but that's in no way a bad thing if you want a speedy meal at a decent price
J. p.
Great food for a great price, and has been for years!

Everything is cheap and the service was good but, the food it's self was pretty tasteless and bland. From the reviews I was expecting amazing food. Mediocre at best...
J. B.
Excellent food at a low price, the seating area is a little cramped
J. H.
This is just the quaintest little place in Brighton. The food is amazing and everyone is always so friendly. Service is quick and easy and it feels so bustling and alive. If you are in Brighton you HAVE to go here
P. A.
Luke warm donburi, cold tofu. Quality has slipped which is a shame. Good for a quick eat but don't expect too much.

My most favourite restaurant of all time. Great food amazing staff. Best place to go for Japanese food !
B. L.
Great location And good prices but you need to be carefull And ask for fresh rise. Otherwise it will be reheated. They do serve really fast And you don't have to wait much.

Fantastic food, and really price 👍

Excellent food, friendly service, decent portion sizes. Could do with being redecorated and tidied up but great fast food nevertheless.

Tiny restaurant, excellent value, great food! You get the nice atmosphere that you are in Japan's back street parade of little takeaways and restaurants. Give it a go!

I've been coming to Pompoko for years prior to events at the the Brighton Dome. You can eat here and wait for all the queues to die down.
Be ready for a wait for tables, this place is tiny but mighty 🙂

Come here often and the food is always perfect! If you like tasty food you'll love it here

Fabulous food. Express service. However not a place where you hang out for hours as there is always a queue of people who want to eat there.
S.
Some delicious and interesting, authentic dishes at very reasonable prices. Expect it to be busy but service is fast.

Yummy food at a cheap price! Proper Japanese rice 😋

Can't get enough of this place. The service is so fast and the breadcrumb chicken curry is the best I've tasted. Don't bother going to Wagamama, this little shop is the best!
A.
Food is great but still insist on only taking cash (no card payments) despite the pandemic. (Avoiding tax > customer health)
W. C.
Great food. It can be a little cramped though not an issue if you're taking away. They only accept cash.
J. L.
Great food, great prices, I've often seen big queues outside this place, now I know why :)
N. H.
Wonderful food for a low price, with lots of options for both meat or vegetarian. Definitely worth checking out.

Nice for a cheap and quick meal. Lots of variety on the menu if you’re looking for simple, Japanese food.

Beautiful and unique little restaurant. Not too busy and amazing food! Didn't have to wait long
J.
Not the best Japanese food I've ever had in an objective sense, but the ratio of deliciousness to cost is hard to beat. This is the place that I wish Japanese Canteen in Hoxton was.

Easy going, small and cute. My favorite restaurant when I visit Brighton. The food is fantastic and cheap. I love Pompoko.
T. C. J.

I think Pompoko is one of the best Japanese restaurants in UK. Very good foods in very reasonable price. My favourite is Chicken Nanban-don.

Really good Japanese I love this kind of food. Good price, fast delivery. I usually order 3 dishes at week from Pompoko

One of the rare Japanese restaurants that serves more than just sushi. Excellent food and good value for money.

M. S.
Perfect for a quick and cheap meal. Don't have alcoholic beer, and only accept cash.
Mochis are delicious.
