Reviews of Derby Cathedral
I'm not religious in any way, I don't go to church or believe in any god; however, I do appreciate the history, vision, craftsmanship, architecture and dedication to buildings like Derby Cathedral.
The Cathedral Church of All Saints Derby is a grade 1 listed cathedral located in cathedral green, it was once the centre of the medieval town.
The original Anglo-Saxon church was completed in around 943 by King Edmund 1; however, nothing remains of it.
The church as seen today is actually Georgian and was completed in 1725 by James Gibbs, in 1967-72 a retroquire was added, the square tower is 212ft (65m) tall and dates back to 1510-32 making it the oldest part of Derby's cathedral.
The tower also house's the world's oldest ring of ten bells dating from around 1678.
There's a small underground chapel called St Katherine's and the hugely impressive tomb of Bess of Hardwick.
They often have events such as Church of the Moon, Peace Doves, and the Knife Angel, well worth a visit even if like myself you have no religious beliefs.
The Cathedral Church of All Saints Derby is magnificent no other word I can think of to describe it better .
The first Church to be built here was in 943 by King Edmund 1 which sadly no longer exists . It was replaced in the 14th Century with the current tower added between 1510 and 1532 .
This tower survived thankfully when the rest of the Church had to be replaced in 1725 . The task being carried out by the wonderfully talented James Gibbs . The creator of many magnificent buildings including the Radcliffe Camera in Oxford . I often wonder how these architect's from days of old got around so much . It was promoted to Cathedral staus in 1927 and quite deservedly so .
This was once the preferred resting place for the Cavendish family and amongst their tombs you will find Bess Of Hardwick . She splendidly seems to have as much light shining on her in death as I'm sure she had in life . Beneath where good old Bess lies you will find St Katherine's Chapel which is small very serene and quite beautiful . Saint Katherine was martyred in Roman times and gives her name to the Katherine Wheel firework . For reasons far to gruesome for me to think about .
After Easter there is going to be an artwork installed by Peter Walker called "Peace Doves" .I was lucky enough to see one of his works at Peterborough Cathedral which was cool and I am sure this one will be great too . I must try to get to see it .
I loved my visit here I must return.
I love our cathedral! I especially love going below to the Shrine of St. Katherine for some private prayer time.
First time I have every visited Derby Cathedral and welcomed by Hazel and given additional information about the cathedral. Lovely architecture and interesting history
Beautiful, peaceful building. We had a lovely warm welcome too. Really enjoyed the 'Calm through the storm', the University of Derby Fine Art Student and Graduate Exhibition.
Delightful experience and full of English history. We asked a very kindly gentleman about the Old English writing and he explained it all. Such a lot of history to take in you need plenty of time.
A pleasant enough cathedral but a bit modern for my taste.
Very beautiful place to visit plus you got visit it for yourself to see what the Derdy cathedral offers to the old and the young
An fabulous place to visit and enjoy, and a great experience as well :)
Not the most stunning cathedral externally compared to some, but the tower looms for many miles around. The interior makes up for it. Historic and the final resting place of Bess of Hardwick. Beautiful wrought ironwork on the inside. Enjoy. M
A Cathedral with a difference. Not the usual Norman style but a lighter semi Baroque architecture with nice details. Don't miss the memorial for Bess of Hardwick, it's quite something and there's a notice with the historic details.
A lovely place to spend a moment reflecting on life and our part in it.
Peace Doves instalation. Definitely worth a visit before you miss it. Emotional. Xx
Nice cathedral. There was a nice welcome by staff inside .my grandson had a sticker. The dove ,s with prayer messages on. Hug above the ceiling.they were so lovely. We left after lighting a candle in remembrance off by husband Glen. My grandson got a little loud as he realised his voice ecched. He only 3.
Room clean and tidy. Drinks and food available in the evening, have paid for breakfast which is available as eat as much or little as you want. Yet to see how comfortable the king size bed is.
Beautiful display of the White Doves. Quite extraordinary. Well done.
Lovely place to visit, dove display fantastic
Easy to find and beautiful. Simple
Visited this week as they had a large display of doves suspended in the middle of the cathedral which local children and centres had made. Beautiful stained glass window and very warm welcoming stewards on duty.
Lovely to see the Peace doves in the cathedral
Very interesting, lots of information on hand and friendly attendants
Quaint place that's located centrally in Derby. It's nice and airy. There are walking tours up to the bell tower - but only on certain days and times.
There is currently, a statue called the Knife Angel, made entirely out of welded knives, as a protest against domestic violence just outside.
The cathedral is stunning in its own right but had to visit to see the Moon Exhibition fantastic best views at night, beautiful and so peaceful walk I through the doors and wham takes your breath away and this is all free so make a donation if you visit so that the exhibition can grace other locations ❤🌛🌚🌜
Beautiful cathedral, attended the Maundy Thursday service with my dad and we loved it. Has a real feel of peace there. Also close to all local amenities, places of refreshment etc, and there's a WC in the building near the front which is good. Disabled accessible too. My dad has MS and had no issues getting in at all. There's a sandwich board outside to tell you when services are also. Overall, a nice place to visit while in Derby.
Vast interior with one side aisle devoted to former military units formerly raised or based in the area. Interesting memorial to Bess of Hardwick and two large stained glass windows that appear inadvertantly to relate to the conflict currently occurring in Ukraine.
Came to view the giant moon and angel outside. The day we went there was a huge line and I thought I have a word seeing my daughter disabled and unable to queue for long. They were very understanding and opened some different doors for us which is extremely lovely of them. Inside and outside the cathedral is lovely.
The Cathedral is a nice place for worship and reflection. Regular services and prayers are held here daily. There are tours available as well to the towers
Beautiful Cathedral filled with paper doves made by local school children and a service to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee
Lovely Cathedral, Tranquil peace in the middle of a Busy City, Lunch time Concerts on Friday are very good
Derby Cathedral is a beautifully stunning building! The history kept within its walls is impressive as is the sheer size of the tower!
However, on this occasion, my family and visited to see the knife angel installation just outside.
A beautifully haunting piece of work that is so breathtaking.
Pictures really don't give it the justice that it deserves. Really impactual and hits your heart to the cold, hard reality that all actions have consequences.
One moment of anger leaves so much destruction and devistation in its wake forever, to do many people.
If you haven't seen it, it is an absolute must!
Christmas concert tonight unbelievable. A solo saxophonist who was out of this world. The children in the youth band incredible. Choir sang beautifully and the range of music wowed us. Of course, as a Derby girl I would say the setting is awesome and the members of the church are working so hard to make this a city community venue. Well done. X
Interesting, small cathedral. Went to the Sunday Eucharist and met some friendly people. Excellent music. Has a Christian bookshop and Café across the road. Free admission.
Beautiful cathedral I recommend visiting derby everything has a charm come and discover it
First time visit so warmly received.Light and airy environment so spotlessly clean and tidy. Amazing evidence of Derby's well-shod past heroes and heroines. Dukes and Duchesses of Devonshire, Bess of Hardwick, Bonnie Prince Charlie, Florence Nightingale and Joseph Wright of Derby. Well worth a visit.
Really impressive with the moon on the inside and the knife angel on the outside.
The cathedral is really good even without the exhibitions with amazing architecture and Bakewell iron work
If you want peace and quiet, a time to think visit here. Beautiful building.
Gods home x
This was a good way to go and see the cathedral. Makes you realise how big it is inside. Well worth a visit
Very helpful guide on the door when we went in. She told us a lot about the cathedral. Lovely building.
I went to Derby Cathedral to see the Peregrines nesting there, I wasn't disappointed. Be aware parking is expensive £2.30 an hour.
Great visit to see the Peace Doves, and enjoy a mindfulness session. Very relaxing!
Love this place. My mum loves it aswell. So I take her for a walk round when she comes to visit. Friendly staff aswell.
Beautiful. We attended a free Friday lunchtime concert. It was wonderful. Great location
Lovely bright Cathedral, will worth a visit. The volunteer at the door was a pleasant chap and he was very informative.
Love going here. Went to see the display of paper doves. Always worth a visit when I'm on Derby.
Review of building only: I've never seen a church with so few images of God/ Jesus/ Mary etc, large royal coat of arms in centre on large iron gate and military flags etc made it feel like the place was for the glory of the Royal family and military rather than God, but guess as a listed building they can't do much about this. Anyway an interesting and different Cathedral.
A magnificent building Derby Cathedral worth visiting while in Derby.
Beautiful place went to see the Peace Doves absolutely awesome well worth a visit 5 *
Historic and beautiful cathedral enhanced by this wonderful display of paper doves.
Derby is such an unusual town. It has a cathedral but never was given city status till 1977. It used to play football on a baseball ground... play cricket on a racecourse... And race dogs in a prison but that is now a housing estate.
At the moment we have the knife angel here till the end of the month. This is so intsrsting
A gem of a building in the nicest part of derby. Free to get in and plenty to keep you there for an hour or so. Don't miss St Katherines chapel! Very peaceful and tranquil. The welcomes on the desk will answer any questions you have
Lovely place to visit with friendly staff. Collect a info board when you enter for lots of information and maximise your visit. Only wheelchair accessable on ground floor.
A beautiful cathedral. Lovely guides who explain the history. Absolutely wonderful
Even lovelier than I remember. Went for a classical concert. The acoustic was superb and the building lovely and warm on a cold wintry night. Fabulous !
An absolutely wonderful experience, we felt peaceful as soon as we entered. Such an interesting building and we did the mouse trail too. Well worth a visit, highly recommended thank you for the experience.
Stunning cathedral. Peregrine falcons nest at the top of the tower which from time to time can be climbed. Bess of Hardwick entombed here. Set in historic cathedral Quarter with fine dining and retail nearby. Temporary Art installation "museum of the moon" proving very popular. "Knife angel" imminent.
Lovely staff and volunteers Excellent sculpture exhibition.
Great tour. Very knowledgable wardens. Beautiful cathedral
Went to see Knives Angel. Worth seeing. Very moving and sad peace of art
Quite modern but a lovely building and the service was presided over by the Dean
I am from india, great place to visit one of the rich historical place, experienced and humble staffs. TOWER TOUR is currently stopped reopen from April if i had a chance i will be coming again to experience the Tower tour
Great venue for music. Great to see the peregrine ruling his roost.
Lovely place. Quite place to reflect. Nice staff.
It is a very nice church never quite been in one like it
Beautiful
3rd smallest cathedral in England. Very modern inside
Beautiful place of tranquility in a bustling busy City centre x
G4 Christmas concert . Absolutely lovely. Beautiful atmosphere and music. (Go early to get a good seat). They started queuing 1 1/2 hrs before the concert.
Saw the moon which was on display in the cathedral. The choir was also singing, very thought provoking
Beautiful..Knife angel outside is incredible..Deffo worth a visit..Moon inside the cathedral was incredible too :))
This is one of the many urban parish churches raised to cathedral status during the early 20th century. The body of the church has a stunning early 18th century interior while the impressive 212 feet tall 16th century tower is one of the highest in England, second only to the Boston stump. It has the oldest ring of ten in the country. The cathedral contains the tomb of Bess of Hardwick.
We loved our visit to this beautiful, tranquil and welcoming building.
Fantastic carol service last night. The choir were superb. Nice atmosphere Xmas spirit all around
Hi went here to see Karam Singh (kid Karam) unviel his made in Derby plaque. Which is just outside Nandos. There were 10 plaques unvieled that day ending right Infront of Derby Cathedral.
The Cathedral Quarter now is a vibrant part of town with a variety of bars and restaurants to visit in the area.
A beautiful Cathedral with a warm welcome and an excellent choir
Beautiful as always the best 👌 GOLD teeth guy
Recomend this to you especially at late night🌙
Very friendly and approachable welcome volunteers. Good safety measures in place compliant with Covid restrictions. A peaceful space full of light, very good Compton organ, lunchtime summer concerts begin Friday 11june 1pm. Well worth a visit.
Great place to viwe the knife Angel very poniant 🙏🏾👼🏽📿 the cathedral is beautiful good place to go see get some peace from the town also some good independent shops surrounding the cathedral 😇
We saw the knife angel here. Great location and town
Lovely Cathedral. We were lucky enough to hear an orchestral rehearsal when we visited it.
Lovely cathedral really nice and bright and light had a good feel about it.
Nice and peaceful. Very interesting history.
We've lived near Derby for over twenty years, but had never walked in before today........what a wonderful, warm, bright, welcoming cathedral we have on our doorstep. The staff gave our 6 year old daughter a mini quest and the three of us had a fabulous hour or more exploring the cathedral. The staff were so friendly and informative and we all had a great time.
Hi we have had a very exciting time this evening. We went to see G4 they were very good. Love from Adam Helen and Nell xxx 🐶🙂🎄
Has some of the most breathtaking exhibitions. The Knife Angel was stunning.
This was an under the church small area where communion were done sat on my own in here for 5 mins was so peaceful
Guided tour was excellent. Very interesting and entertaining. Unusual architecture (neo-classic)
Went to see the moon and knife angel great experience
Always a learning experience, not just a place of religion and worship but also a cathedral which plays a huge part in the local community with events such as Museum of the moon, the knife angel and so much more. Well worthy of a visit, if anything the architecture both inside and outside of this incredible building will have you looking around in awe. SPLENDID BUILDING.
Went to see the Doves of Peace, spectacular.
It's a really peaceful place to be when it's quiet and a strange mix of peace, serenity and buzzing when it's busy. The building itself is awe inspiring and the inside adds to that further. What a fantastic landmark of Derby and definitely worth a visit even if you're not religious cos neither am I. Its great that this place is ran by dedicated volunteers.
Beautiful place, lovely to find a sense of peace in a crowded city
The moon has landed in the cathedral. A stunning artwork is in temporary residence!
Visited to post a message on the tree of light in the cathedral. What a beautiful idea the tree is.
Visited the Cathedral twice now. First time I accidentally walked in whilst there was a choir practising, sounded amazing. Last time an orchestra rehearsal, also sound amazing. Wonder what I will find happening next time. A splendid building to visit.
Lots of small car parks close by, as well as the multi storey. Cathedral is very accessible, has a small play area for children. Recently redecorated and led lights installed, so is a very spacious, bright place to be. Try and visit when tours up the tower to the roof, or the choir are practicing, excellent bonus balls!! Not a frumpy place, it's very welcoming, well done Derby! 😁👍
Despite being a small city, Derby's cathedral is well worth a visit. I walked around with my Pevsner's guide, and thoroughly enjoyed looking at the many interesting features. The services are friendly and spiritually nourishing, and the staff (most of whom I believe are volunteers) are welcoming and truly passionate about the cathedral, its history and its ministry.
The wobbly wanderers were here looking at the Knife Angel outside.
We decided to call in and have a look round.
It is quite a modern Cathedral and has a lot to look at inside.
If you're Interested in local history it's well worth a visit .
I took my 6 year old grandaughter who loves to look at the architecture, the carvings and the memorials to those who passed. She loves the history and the ambience. The cathedral is very beautiful and we always light a candle and say thanks even though we are not exactly religious.
Derby Cathedral towers has the second highest perpendicular church tower in England!
the bells are the oldest set of 10 bells in the world, one of which was cast in 1520, during the reign of Henry VIII, and is still in use, making it one of the oldest working objects in Derby.
Impressed by the amount of history and style contained within the Cathedral.
Memorials to Florence Nightingale and other local dignitaries who had made their mark on society lie within the building.
Well cared for and ideally located in the city centre.
The actual exhibit was great and the folk act warming up sounded really good too. The only down side was the actual cathedral staff or volunteers that we had to battle to get in! The website said last entry at ten to 7 so they could get ready for the band but at 740 we got to the door and she attempted to turn us away! To be fair i just told her the web site said ten to and walked past but a lot of others including those waiting with small children were disappointed. Not great planning really, the exhibit is best viewed at night so to be planning other events on its last weekend that start just after dark is just daft!
Christmas Eve.. we attended the Christmas Eve event at Derby cathedral 2020. It was great, despite the covid restrictions. Attendance was low because of the restrictions, but it was so well presented, I felt so privaliged to actually be there.
Can't praise the staff of Derby cathedral enough, thank you.
This is a well kept cathedral situated just out of the city centre. It has nesting falcons in the tower at certain times of the year. The latest attactions are the now famous Knife Angel (built from knives and other weapons that certain people carry and do harm to others) and a giant model of the moon. Both attractions are well worth the visit alone.
Nice cathedral to visit. Look out for the days when the tower is open - it's well worth the climb to the top (the steps are very steep). It offers fantastic views of the city. Look out for the peregrine falcons!
Went to look at the knife sculpture, had a look round the cathedral while we were there, quit a plan cathedral on the inside.
The cathedral is a lovely building, full of light. The Sunday morning service is well- done with good quality music. Visitors are assured of a welcome here.
Stunning church and pleasant staff
Great Cathedral! Would recommend a visit to anyone.
There is a lovely ambience in the newly spacious cafe, coupled to the delicious fresh food and genuinely friendly & helpful staff whilst, maintaining the Christian value. That they are now open Sundays with their new traditional Sunday lunch Menu is a God-send to many of us as Sunday is the day when everyone is already busy with their families. You would happily eat Sunday lunch here on your own without being out-of-place, whereas one would feel uncomfortable and/or conspicuous eating Sunday lunch alone in a pub. Excellent! Thank you.
I visited the lovely cathedral got permission to take photos than I went to the front near the electronic organ a Chap on the staff went after me and said I shouldn't take photos I felt set up in a way they want me in want me out
What a lovely surprise to come across the church turned Cathedral. It seems, according to the kind gentleman who welcomed us, that it has 3 distinct parts. The tower dates from the 16th century. The main body of the church is Georgian and completed in 1725. and the area behind the high altar was added in the 20th century. It all blends beautifully and is a delight to wander round.
We went to the folk concert. Well done Derby Cathedral for putting on such a great concert and hosting two amazing pieces of art. The moon which must be 12 feet in diameter and the angel made up of knives taken off the street and put to a good use.
Good ambiance. Welcoming. Warm. Some parking immediately adjacent to the main entrance and easy access. Toilets.
Not an overwhelming space like many Gothic style equivalents. Of historical interest with its Cavendish tomb area and Bakewell screen on particular interest. Enthusiastic choir with many young members - great to witness.
The Moon installation is stunning! It's surreal to be standing so close to this huge lunar orb! Very contemplative to just sit and take in the photographically pefect recreation of our mystical moon. Catch it before it's gone (October 6th)
Lovely and peaceful and very bright.
Food was really lovely but the lady that served us wasn't. I appreciate they were short staffed but a smile and politeness should be mandatory if you want the public to keep returning. When some shop items fell off the displays due to the wind coming through the door that opened, a number of customers went to help and she twice barked at them to leave them as she would do it. Another lady brought an item to the desk to buy and was told off for taking it off the display. As I was taught, it's not what you say but the way you say it. I probably won't go back if she is serving.
Wonderful and interesting place. People are ultra friendly and proud of the history.
Main feature of the high street.
Went to a Vivaldi concert there and it really was a good night, will go again later in the year
Two Great sculptures on display over the weekend
Derby Cathedral was promoted from parish church status, to a cathedral in 1927, creating a seat for the Bishop of Derby. The original church of All Saints was founded in the mid-10th century as a royal collegiate church, dedicated to All Saints. The main body of the church as it stands today is a Georgian rebuilding completed in 1725.
The Knife Angel - a spectacular 27ft sculpture, made-up of 100,000 bladed weapons handed in as part of police surrender schemes across the country - has arrived in Derby. The angel was carefully put in place outside Derby Cathedral by a team of workers who are part of a small group of businesses who have offered their time and expertise for free.
Must go for Derby - suggestions; check out Liz of Hardwick and listen to the choir at evensong. Bonnie Prince Charlie is at the rear.
Beautiful and atmospheric. Captured the true meaning of Christmas
Nice city plenty to see especially when the knife angel was in town
Would not rank amongst the great cathedrals of the country but still has plenty of history and architectural merit. Not the easiest of timelines to follow concerning phases of construction but where it is now is aesthetically pleasing, particularly inside.
Attended a concert here, it was packed, but well organised by the pleasant staff. Very few Loo's available, but we didn't go there for drink!
Acoustics where good, and the venue warm enough for an old church, a nice experience all round, and a good start to Advent
Lovely church with the added bonus of Bess of Hardwick 's tomb
I love coming here to just sit and gather my thoughts if I need to. I'm not a highly religious person but they still welcome me and talk to me if I need/want to. It's so beautiful and calming inside.
Very quiet and peaceful
Very neat and well maintained
This building is one of the main features of the Derby skyline. A short walk along iron gate from the market place in the centre of Derby. The building features in many landcape photographs od Derby. Sometimes during the summer months the tower is open to climb up. The views from which over Derby are amazing. Well worth checking when the next open day is.
Went to see a classical concert. Was a lovely atmosphere and great music.
Lovely service it was a pity that the congregation couldn't sing the carols because of covid restrictions but it lovely to hear the choir Happy Christmas.
Beautiful. Not what you would expect. The Bakewell screen is spectacular. Bess of Hardwick tomb is obviously unique. Outdoor attraction ? ask the peregrine falcons nesting on the tower. Eat your heart out Nottingham, you cannot top that. !
Very smart cathedral. Not as grand as the more famous ones but very nice in it's own right. Bess of Hardwick's tomb is an important historical location.
Lovely quiet very stunning
I love visiting the cathedral with my partner and my sons. Its so peaceful and a beautiful place to reflect.
When we go into derby i like to go to the cathederal. The cathederal is beautiful inside and well worth a visit. The last time i went to that area the knife angel was placed outside fo viewing. The cathederal quarter has lots of pubs and clubs to visit just up the road is the silk mill that I have taken many photographs of.
Bizarrely my school used Derby Cathedral as a venue to perform a play, so I can't review it in a religious capacity. But I can say that it is a stunningly beautiful building in a very lovely part of Derby city centre. Fans of gothic architecture and ghosts (apparently the apparition of a nun haunts the grounds...) should really give this place a visit.
Amazing piece of Derby's history. Visited to see the Knife Angel.
So good to see many people popping in to see the Cathedral and all the features.
A very friendly warm welcome by the two ladies on duty the day we visited. Lovely cathedral with some real hidden gems if you take the time to look.
Beautiful building, great plans for the future, excellent events, stunning services and the clergy and those who serve here are dedicated to their service. Well worth a visit, if you can attend a service then do. I strongly recommend Evensong.
Today was a memorable harvest festival. Great preaching, excellent hymns and music, thoughtful and inspired prayers, also the moon was there!
Derby Cathedral has recently had roof repairs and has been decorated within. It is a quite different style to other, older, cathedrals but is impressive in its own right. Worth a visit for those interested in architecture and it's links with Bess of Hardwick. Also a huge tomb cap from Joseph Arkwright's grave.
Wonderful place of worship with a very warm atmosphere about it, built in a neo-classical style different from the usual Gothic architecture of the English cathedrals.
The Dove display was amazing
Such a peaceful environment to take time for reflection. Full of interesting items that are fully explained and their history shown.
An oasis of calm in a busy city.
The moon exhibit, was a great piece to see , but the knife statue was very impressive and i hope the people who feel the need to csrry them reflect and change their ways.
Beautiful and quaint cathedral. It has an unusual and interesting architecture too.
Wow, beautiful, architecturally incredible, excellent structure, inside is amazing
Well worth a visit, we loved our trip to Derby to see the cathedral
This is a beautiful cathedral recently been restored and has a working bell tower. Very disabled and child and family friendly. Services are held throughout the week and weekend. It even has toilets including babychange and a disabled toilet as well. Set in the cathedral quarter of Derby near the parksafe carpark, it is a five minute walk from the old assembly rooms in the centre of Derby. There is paid parking next to the cathedral or several carparks are available. and it is a ten minute walk from the intu centre carpark.
Visited the knife angel at the Derby Cathedral. A real piece of art. If you haven't been to see the knife angel I would recommend you go.
A reassuring place full of history and dignity. Can't imagine the inclusive shepherds selling seats for Satanist movies inside though, or me buying any.
A mixture of Class, History and Spirituality
Very good and looks almost new from the inside. Only two modern stained glass windows. The building is quite old from the outside.
We went to view the sculpture made from handed in knives outside the Cathedral. The sculptur hoped that it would reduce the amount of knife crime as a result.
Lovely place to visit, nice inside, good for prayer
Lovely first visit to the Cathedral. Light airy building with a lot of history. Only became a cathedral in 1927.
Beautiful and historic building well worth a visit with my grandchildren , even has a play area for them , always enjoy christmas eve popping in .
Beautiful knife sculpture.
I was guided into the Cathedral this morning and I must say thank you to two people - the lady who made the perfect cup of tea and Canon Elizabeth. God bless
Enjoyed this. Island car park very close. We bought the inexpensive guide book to tell us about the cathedral.
A fine old RC cathedral, very close to the town centre & access from the A52.
Well worth a look around while in Derby, the Silk Museum is close by, behind the cathedral..
One reviewer wrote about being able to see kestrels. Of course, they meant the world's fastest living thing - the Peregrine Falcon. Yes, this bird has nested since 2006 on a special platform on the east side of the tower (visible from Full Street/Cathedral Green), but birds remain around Derby Cathedral all year round. Google 'Derby Peregrines' to find the four webcameras. One of them lets you hear the bells ringing too!
Very confortable cathedral in downtown Derby. Very nice people Who invited us to visit It just before a service.
Incredible sound from the chorus.
Must visit!!!
The Cathedral is a light and airy neoclassical building. We found the welcomers very friendly and there is a children's quiz available. The highlight of the building is the tomb of Bess of Hardwick, who built Hardwick Ball and Chatsworth House.
,THE MOON WAS GREAT .THE KNIFE MAN WAS FANTASTIC
A very bright cathedral due to the clear windows to allow as much light in and painted white to reflect the light would like to of climed the spire but only allowed on Saturdays
Loved it there and it's a very special place
Lovely Cathedral well worth a visit. When there make sure you have a look at the little chapel underneath.
Very peaceful place. There was a choral practice taking place while we were there for a concert the following evening by the local high school.
Went to see the moon which was fantastic. We also found so much more of interest. A great place of interest to visit.
A very surreal place it envelops you into its arms and you feel very safe, at the same time you enjoy all it has to offer, the architecture, the sevices, the friendship and all that comes in between ✝️x
Was just visiting the knife statue which was outside
A lovely part of Derby to visit and the cathedral is host to the much talked about knife angel which will be on site for the rest of October 2019.
Went to see the Moon and the Knife Angel. Very impressive. First visit to the Cathedral and surprised at how small it is.
I visited to see "The Moon" very good.
Went today to see the Knife Angel. Well worth a visit the building has some gorgeous architecture.
The architecture is really nice.
Went to see the Knife Angel. Very moving a true piece of art. It is a Cathedral Church not a cathedral.
Lovely cathedral to explore.
Very interesting, beautiful alter Florence Nightingale is buried here. Also Bess of Hardwick hall. All in all well worth a visit.
Derby Cathedral is set in a quiet location in Derby's Cathedral Quarter, having a good selection of high quality shops and places to eat..
