Beautiful Abby at the top of a steep incline over looking the coastal line. Amazing ruins on the grounds. Information boards up telling stories. No parking that we could see but worth the walk up just pace yourself. Perfect way to end a tour of this amazing town

A fascinating place full of history and still quite a lot to see. Lovely views across the Forth. A steep walk uphill from Culross but worth the effort. The tower where witches were kept is particularly eerie.

Culross Abbey is a beautiful piece of architecture. There's a small cemetery with 100s of years old graves and tiny ruined grounds keeper's house that adds spookiness to the place. Unfortunately the ruins are closed now, by the look of it indefinitely.

If your paying a visit to the charming and highly condensed historical burgh of Culross, having a look into the abbey, graveyard and church is a must. About the Abbey only the ruins remain and the history of the cistercienses monks that once upon the time lived there. To visit the church I highly recommend you to check the opening times.

Beautiful inside and out. Definitely worth a visit.

Magical experience. Step into another world as you quietly tiptoe through the beautiful abbey. It’s truly a religious experience. Don’t forget to walk around the back and photograph the ancient Celtic tombstones. Stunning.

Visited back in August. This ruined abbey was the home of Cistercian monks, but fallen out of use by the 16th century. There's very little of the abbey left to see except the former dining hall which does actually have some interesting Gothic design features on the ceiling. There's some information boards near the entrance and at the back, which are actually quite informative. The part of the abbey that's still in use is the parish church, but that was closed, so there really wasn't much to see.

Beautiful inside and the grounds and ruins. Steeped in history. Its a fair walk up to it if on foot, but you can always drive.

Very nice church (specially the ruins of the old one, close to the new one) which was built on the site of and old foundation around 6th century, by Malcolm, earl of Fife. Around 1600, a new law moved the West Kirk to this nearby Abbey Parish Church. It was opened when we visited (that’s not frequent in Scotland). Nice cemetery just close to it. Very silent, quiet, peaceful. Worth a ten minute visit

Very atmospheric walking around the grounds of the old Abbey . One section is only accessible by a set of steep metal steps, apart from that a fine place to visit, there is a cafe, closed, opening May 2019.

Ancient Abbey ruins in a beautiful old village. Well worth a visit

The ruins are worth a quick look. It's grass rather than a path so gets a bit boggy under foot. It's a Historic Scotland site but there was no one there, and the gate was open. Wheel chairs will struggle with the grass. There's some stairs which are a bit like a ladder: those with mobility issues or if you're scared of heights won't manage it. The newer church that has the tower is a really nice space. It has a warm inviting feel to it even with no one there. In terms of parking, it's on-street. A bit narrow in places (but all the streets in Culross are narrow).

Lovely old church with ruins. There's also a little cemetery.must visit.

Lovely day for a walk round Culross and the Abbey. Great history here. We are on Pilgrims Way.

Situated at the top of the village, steep climb up the hill but worth it. Also has a coffee shop. Nice views over the Forth on the way up.

Lovely Abbey set in the pretty and historic village of Culross. Maintaining many original features it has a lovely feel to it and is a step back in time.

Currently the outside section is available for viewing. Nice historic spot with nice gardens. Quite a small section but worth looking at if you are in the area. Parking is very limited but is not far from the centre of Culross, though beware the walk is steep.

This whole town is a gem of a place to visit! Preserved since the 17th century with its tiny lanes and buildings. NTS members can also enjoy the Palace and gardens for free. The Abbey is maintained by Historic Scotland but is not open. The grounds were open so we were able to explore and enjoy those.

Great place to visit, lots of infopoints. Next to the church which you can go inside. Lots of very old graves to look around. Very interesting place. Culross palace is definitely worth visiting while you are here.

Got married here 17 years ago and went for a trip down memory lane.
Its still a Cold building.
Free entry.
Fabulous building with the architecture.

Very picturesque place and well worth considering for weddings and other special events.

It's such a peaceful place to visit, nothing is open just yet, but the surrounding area is just lovely, the way up is a wee bit uncomfortable due to the stones on the street and the narrow streets, every time a vehicle is driving through you have to dodge it on the sides of the road between vehicles. I can't wait to get back when it's open!

This abbey impresses when you visit it ... the very cool ruins and when you get to see the cemetery, it makes your hair stand on end when you see the tombs almost all inclined. The visit is worth it.

Beautiful little town looks right out of a small European town.
M. G.
Really interesting historic religious site. If you are interested in the history of Scotland then this is a must. It is still a functioning church so one of the best ways to see it would be to join a service and then have a good look around afterwards.
R. S.
Interesting Abbey, especially the old ruin next to the new church. If visiting, park the car at the top of the village as it's a really steep walk up the hill. In the graveyard next to the Abbey is the grave of a local who was awarded the Victoria Cross.

Beautiful, historic and peaceful

Was a very interested place, explored the Abbey and most of the village. Very cool as its like stepping back in time, was very peaceful and relaxing to walk around.

Amazing place and Abbey tea rooms just perfect. All food homemade-delicious. The ladies who run it are a great team and very entertaining.

Very small, but does have some unique bits and good historical education boards

Closed due to pandemic but outside and graveyard very interesting. VC winner stands out. Dry rot contractors there today rescuing parquet floors. Common now due to lockdown and no air circulation apparently.
S. T.
Quirky, great to be able to explore the architectural detail of tge roof coombs via the ladder. Excellent place to spend half an hour, and it's free.
A. J.
The history of this place is very interesting. Coming to places like this after the covid makes things feel a lot more normal. I recommend coming here if you're near Culross
m. T.
Spectacular what a joy to visit, walking through the quaint village .... must see
L.
Anyone who has trouble walking up very steep hills would need to drive up. The road is cobbled and narrow and steep but once your at the top its worth the visit.
P. S.

Excellent small walk in sight. Go to the church and church yard at the rear of the sight then look for the VC winner. Fascinating.
M. C.
Not much to see really but it's part of the whole Culross experience, which is definitely worth a visit.
A. C.
Love culross. Great place to visit. Also the palàce. Both have tearooms. Lovely houses and cobbled streets
J. R.
Take the time to find this place and step back in time. The Abby is a walk up a slight incline but worth it.
A. N.
Quaint Abbey and beautiful graveyards dating back to 1767 that we could find. Found Stewart McPherson's grave, recipient of a Victoria Cross.
V. H.
Very old abbey, we enjoyed the fact that you can climb and touch everything.

Picturesque coastal town with narrow streets made of sea stones. The view on the way to Abby is very nice over the sea. The ruin was a location of Outlander. The church has beautiful windows and is located next to the cemetery. Visit is worthwhile for the place as well.

(Translated) Great Abbey located in a village where time seems to have stood still. The Abbey is full of history and the village in which it is located is too good to be true.
(Original)

(Translated) Charming. A few minutes' walk away you can also visit the Cruz del Mercado, where the scene of the Outlander series was filmed. The one about the boy who stole an apple and as punishment they nailed his ear to a wooden post.
You can also visit the terraces, full of vegetation and admire its views

Encantador.

(Translated) A magical and beautiful place. The old part of the original abbey from the 13th century is also accessible from the back. Definitely don't miss it! :-)

Magické a krásné místo. Rozhodně to nevynechejte! :-)

(Translated) A church that was organized to be really nice. So that we can have a good time. There are flowers. Sofas. Curtains. Rugs. Coffee tables A little reading (religious). A lot of explanation about the old abbey. Abbey found a little lower and worth the trip. It would be a shame to miss out!
(Original)

(Translated) If the town of Culross is a piece of history stopped in time, the Abbey with the cemetery and its ruins make you locate yourself in the 16th and 17th centuries. Take a leisurely stroll on a rainy autumn afternoon and you will feel part of the story.
(Original)
