Reviews of Hull Minster

What a gem. The infrastructure of the building is excellent to think it's not even a cathedral. The design in different colours of the glass windows are phenomenal.
This week is a freedom festival here in which Hull celebrates every year. This year is different as the GAIA Globe is inside the Minster to increase the awareness of emission and global warming. The church is under going renovation of its South side so it really needs a financial support. Donations on any ways are welcome.
The cast iron pot I was carrying in the photo was designed by Abraham Darby I.
This pot is in Iron Museum in Ironbridge UK which was lent to Prof Mark Jolly of Cranfield universities UK for exhibit purposes only. I was honoured to meet and talk to Frank, the Bishop of Hull.

I'm not religious, however, I always find myself fascinated with Hull Minster, the inside in particular. I most recently went here to see the Earth. I loved seeing the Earth but it was also nice seeing the architecture of the building.
Hull Minster has an accessible entrance and most areas within the Minster I've been in have a ramp.
I love the fact the staff don't push religion at you when you walk in. They let you appreciate the buildings beauty. The shop inside is reasonably priced and looks fab quality. I'm definitely going to go back when I can and buy some things!

Beautiful Minster. We sat through a communion service. We were made very welcome and enjoyed our time here.

Stunning architecture and ceilings. The organ is pretty impressive too.

We went to see the Gaia experience as part of the Hull Freedom Festival. Hull Minster is a fabulous and spacious building. The Minster it's self is worth a visit the stained glass windows are lovely and the little tea room serves lovely cake. There is a little shop selling gifts and friendly volenteers both part of the freedom festival and Minster team.

Grand historical building with lots to see inside. We visited for the beer festival and it's such a great experience...food and drink in fabulous surroundings. Definitely worth a visit.

Stunning medieval parish church of Kingston upon Hull, supposedly the largest in the country, bigger than some cathedrals. Holy Trinity was declared a Minster in the 21C. Largely built of brick with stone embellishments & very large windows, reflecting the materials available locally and the once marshy ground the building sits on, at the confluence of the Rivers Hull & Humber.
The church is undergoing a huge refurbishment which has opened a large central repaved space, removing many Victorian pews and much of the surrounding Victorian wall with the main west door now leading straight onto the large refurbished Trinity Square, bounded by the Elizabethan Grammar School & various Georgian & Victorian buildings creating a very "European " space. The Square boasts a statue of English Civil War poet Andrew Marvell, a former pupil of the school.

Lovely church, but rude and aggressive staff member, verger? My friend and I visited hull minster this afternoon we are both retired profession gentlemen over 75 , I have a disability being stone deaf we walked into Hull minster early this afternoon as we have done several times for a visit. As we walked round I couldn’t hear that a service was being conducted and as I am deaf I do tend to talk very loud, chatting away we walked to the end near the alter walked round to exit when this gentlemen walked out stoney faced never said a word and indicated that there was service on, I tendered my apologies not realising what was going on and we walked round to go out he just gesticulated for us to leave, as if he wanted us to go his whole demeanour was aggressive he looked stoney faced never even smiled, not the sort of treatment you get from the staff in a Christian church, he was a rather stocky fellow with grey hair, my point his he need some training with people with hidden disabilities . This is gods house and I am sure Jesus would have not treated us thus. Lovely church by the way.

Magnificent church. Highlight for me were the ornate carvings on the pew ends. The head verger gave us a tower tour that was very informative.
C. S.
Fantastic architecture and a tranquil place.
D. W.
Beautiful old Minister with plenty of character. Staff very helpful. Lovely place to visit steeped in history.
S. R.
The volunteers were so welcoming and informative. The Minster was a lovely place. The carvings and windows are gorgeous. They had a cafe and nice gift shop as well with books about the history of Hull and the Minster. I enjoyed my visit.

Gorgeous Minster right next to the awesome Trinity Indoor Market, both cultural icons of Hull! Would recommend going in just to see the stained glass windows, although we did go to an Earth exhibition they were hosting which was fantastic and also a street food festival out the front which was bustling and delicious and fun!
J. M.
The architecture of the building and the stained glass windows are wonderful works of art. The wooden carvings on the pews are wonderful to see and a number of educational anecdotes are scattered around the building. All of the pews are pushed to the sides and the organs are in a bit of disrepair. There is a gift shop there, (which is a little bare and personally I think the space could be used differently but I can understand that the museum needs donations and money to run itself.
There is a small play area for smaller children and a little quiet cafe with home made baked goods, and a knitting group of ladies sat in one corner. (They were very friendly and sweet.)
E. J.
Went to Hull Minster to see Culture Orchestra play songs from the musicals, which was fabulous, all the soloists were fantastic. The Moon was still there, it's an installation of a huge moon. And it was enhanced by the lights from the show. Also there was the brilliant exhibition Hull Spirit, iconic people and places..all crafted by members if #we made it.
C. G.
A community hub in every sense of the word. The minster gets involved in alot of activity locally, and there's always something on to see or do - They tweet regularly @HullMinster so you can see what's going on.
The building is one of oldest Churches in England, with a magnificent ceiling and recently modernised interior.
It's set in the popular Trinity Square, which is equally as impressive in Hull's historic Old Town.
M. C.
The exhibition of photographed paintings from Cistine Chapel were magnificent. However we found the instructions given to use the Audio handsets were rather misleading as the logical numbering system didn't match what was on the tape.
J. V.
What a great exhibition. So exciting to see the magnificent reproduction of Michelangelo's artwork from the Sistine Chapel. It was well organised so that the Minster was not crowded and you didn't have to queue.
R. C.
Went around the church. Works been carried out so going to wait a bit to photo the inside.
P. E.
Lovely church sorry minster, me and my better half went to see the exhibition, planet earth.
S. U.
Great place to visit but difficult at the moment with the builder doing alot of work
A. E.
Nice place to visit and have a look around. Exhibition showing history of fishing is currently on during 2017. Also 'The Electric Fence' is an artwork you can see in the Minster.
R.
Been here a few times for various events, lovely minster, great history and lots to look at. Never had a bad experience here and will keep going back.
K. P.
If you are in Hull I strongly recommend to visit this beautiful medieval parish church.
The architecture and the light compose breathing piece of art.
C. b.

Rare to give 5 stars for a church, but they had the moon on show.
Stunning minster in a pretty square (yes, in Hull) close to town centre.
Lovely place to wander, contemplate and reflect on how fortunate you are to be here.
D. P.
An amazing piece of history in Hull. They were very welcoming to visitors and happy for you to take photos and enjoy the place. Difficult to take it all in as there is so much to see ranging from hundreds of years of history.
M. '. N.
An amazing piece of art to look at. All staff were also extremely friendly

Brilliant Minster. A beautiful mix of old with new. Always a pleasure visiting. The underfloor heating is welcome on cooler nights too
S. J.
The minster in Hull had a light show of the Spurn Ship. It was so interested, the graphics were amazing. It really brought the whole place to life.
M. A.
Great place to visit. There are 7 carved mice in the Minster somewhere. We had lots of fun trying to find them.

T. K. K.
England's largest parish church, built using fine medieval brickwork with a 17th-century organ.See Andrew Marvell's statue and his grammer school tha date back to 1836 right next to the Hull Minster.
L. G.
Well worth a visit. I love how they have opened it up to the public whilst still maintaining it as a place of worship. There's a cafe, a little crash and the was even a old LP market being held.
P.
Very nice, small church but anyhow is plenty to see
C. B.
Love this place.. lovely place to visit when your in the Town obviously on the open days.
C. J. F. H.
Attended the EYMS Brass Band and Hull Youth Choir Xmas Carol concert. A very striking setting full of charm and reverence and a warm floor on a cold night outside. Absolutely charming.
A. F.

Beautiful minster worth a visit
T. S.
As a Volunteer with Hull 4Heroes. This was our second visit there to hold our Tuesday coffee morning. The Church Warden has on both occasions been extremely helpful along with all members of staff being very helpful and informative. Beautiful setting and steeped in history. Highly recommended a visit .

I'm an ex Jehovahs Witness. It's wonderful to walk round a magnificent church building and not feel guilty. I lit a candle and prayed there for a young man who is leaving the cult and experiencing persecution. I was overwhelmed by peace and calm and what is more I had a dog with me. Heaven forbid if he'd gone in a Kingdom Hall.
The minster seems well maintained. The art exhibition displayed some really competent stuff and the shop has lovely merchandise. Oh how wonderful to be part of the human race and believe in Christ. Funnily enough the Bible was open at John 3v16-18. Do read it.
B. &. S. S.
An interesting working church that works hard at being an integral part of the community. Large, impressive but not a gothic cathedral though none the worse for that. Lots of local history, friendly guides and a range of interesting exhibitions and installations.
S. F.
Just such a beautiful, peaceful place.
J. H.
Went to see the amazing Gaia exhibition, such a lovely venue and ideal setting for Gaia. After see the exhibition we took a walk around the Minster and found ourselves there for longer than anticipated as we found so much history to take in.
P. P.
Stained glass is amazing, the little coffee shop was spot on and staff were really friendly.
S. B.
Lovely place to visit . Nice stained glass windows and a fantastic place for remembering the fallen.
T. V.
Came to Saturday Evensong on the 19th March. Tenor section was by far the best section
f. j.
Beautiful. Gift shop sells fab cards too!
J. H.
After the Battle of Britain memorial service today, lovely view of the giant moon in the Minster. Also watched a fly past by a Lancaster bomber, wonderful.
C. J.
Always a delight to visit. Now, briefly home to the Earth & a small part of the Great Northern Forest during the Freedom Festival. Well worth a visit to this free ticketed event.
D. H.
Amazing building. Well worth a look
L. W.
Small church made a minster in 2017 following Hull being City of Culture. Hosts lots of cultural events/displays. Lovely staff. Worth a quick peek at.
A. R.
Went to see the Leonardo exhibition also took pics of the stained glass windows
S. J.
The Gaia exhibition currently installed in the Minster is excellent and the Minster is always a nice place to visit for a peaceful 10mins or a long study of great architecture.
G. M.
Jolly good view, tea n cake too
S. M.
Lovely place to visit, enjoyed it thoroughly.
N. T.
Beautiful parish church. Lovely open space in the centre for activities and multi use.
Lovely windows. As nice from the inside as the outside.
Beautiful square around it. Hull has really moved on and has become an attractive visitor location. If I was 25 I'd move there!
P. J. L.
One of the most beautiful and historical parts of Kingston Upon Hull , beautiful inside and out - currently the outside of the building has lots of scaffolding due to ongoing works - a very quiet and relaxing place to sit outside with a home made lunch - the bells still always ring and sound wonderful!
M. C.
A great space for all good stuff, nice to see different exhibits as the year rushes past. Good venue for Music too.
p. t.
Such a great building, and the stained glass is amazing.
C. R.
Love this place of worship, everyone is so friendly and welcoming. Apart from it being a house of God, it's a place of beauty. Really recommend a visit.
A. R.
One of the largest parish churches in England, now raised to "Minster" status.
R. S.
Love the history. A lovely peaceful place to be either on your own or with others. Great cafe. Staff very helpful. It is great since all the renovations have been done. So much more inviting for all sorts of communal activities. A great venue.
D. P.
Absolutely stunning venue, quite beautiful inside and put. Attended the Michelangelo exhibition which was wonderful. Event was not overly full but still busy. Volunteers were very friendly and helpful.
R. M.
Lovely atmosphere and the moon was very impressive. Well worth a look as the old town is worth seeing.
P. P.
Lovely historic building with lots of history. Very friendly staff and volunteers no matter what time of day you visit.
There are a wide selection of worship/ services that suite almost anybody at most time of the week.
The cafe is fantastic value with so may beautiful cakes that shouldn't be missed!
P. L.
Hull Minster is a great place to visit. The cafe serves good wholesome food. A small chapel within the Minster holds a short service each day if you wish to go. They recently had a Michelangelo Exhibition which was so well presented with audio facilities ( for a small charge of£3) which was well worth it. Well done to all those involved.
A. L.
Nice historic building near the city centre, had a bit of money spent on it inside and out so there is a nice public space out side. Free to get in with volunteers on hand to help and there is a cafe serving drinks and cake. Tributes to Hulls maritime past and still retains a lot of the church features. Worth a look if you are in the area
G. G. B.
Very good open space for various events, including record fairs (which is why I was there), craft fairs, beer festivals, exhibitions/art installations & concerts. The interior architecture is wonderful, & there's a bonus of a cafe, too!
A. P.
Such a beautiful building, feel the presence of continuing worship in this building. The stained glass windows are a real treasure to see. There is a delightful cafe with sandwiches hot and cold and delicious cakes and great tasting coffee. Well worth a visit.
A. W.
Gin festival in the most beautiful setting... Brilliant buzz.
N. A.
Visit to see the Michael Angelo exhibition. Excellent exhibition was well presented. Beautiful Minster with great light. Nice little cafe with cake at reasonable price. Friendly staff and volunteers and great to meet bishop Frank.
k. g.
The largest parish church, friendly and welcoming has a number of carvings by mousetrap Thompson and some fine 'poppy head finials' on the pews. William Wilberforce was baptised here and became a Christian here also.
t. h.
Went to see the Michelangelo exhibition. Paintings etc were stunning, but the layout was badly planned. Not enough space around the exhibits to get a look without knocking in to other people. If you were able to meander around the paintings you could have just gone to one with nobody around it, but the one way system stopped this.
A.
I like it. It's beautiful and tranquil inside and has impressive exteria as well. There was an interesting art display when I visited last time; it's probably a regular thing there.
They also do lots of meeting and events and I hope to attend some of them in the future.
C. R.
Went to see Steve Harley in concert here, was fantastic. The minster provides a beautiful venue, very atmospheric and grand with the arches and colourful church windows. The 60 strong choir singing in the break and backing the band added to the experience. Great night in a great venue. Would definitely attend other events here was well worth it.
D. H.
Actually went in for the climate change exhibition which itself was fantastic but the Minster itself is to be highly recommended
G. H.
A nice afternoon ,went to see the earth at the Minster, the jewel in the universe, the evidence of a great designer..Recommended
D. R.
Love this place! Has lots of events for the whole community, and dog friendly too! Top marks!
S. J.
The Gaia exhibition currently installed in the Minster is excellent and the Minster is always a nice place to visit for a peaceful 10mins or a long study of great architecture.
J. H.
After the Battle of Britain memorial service today, lovely view of the giant moon in the Minster. Also watched a fly past by a Lancaster bomber, wonderful.
P. C.
Recently refurbished trinity square really sets the Minster off. It's a great building to visit.
R. B.
Superb ceilings. Look out for the carved mice too
D. S.
If you can call a church cosy this was. Dont miss out on the scones they sell
M. A.
Was just walking passed it and noticed it was open, was very interesting to read all the slabs and wall plaques
P. C.
Very nice inside
S. N.
What a beautiful building, very welcoming inside also there is a large paved area where themed activities are organised. Also cafes and pubs nearby. Saw the moon exhibition there on a previous visit, fantastic.
G. H.
I visited the Sistine Chapel facsimile exhibition on the 15th November. The Minster staff very welcoming and friendly. They apologised that our timed visit was coinciding with preparations for a music concert.
My wife and I walked into an extended sound check for a Christian music event. At times they drowned out the audio guide and were very distracting. It was going on for the 30 minutes or so of our visit. The audio narrative was also very wordy and monotonous so I ended up turning it off.
The images clearly had a logical sequence (that the audio guide followed) but the band and their assistants had randomly moved some out of the way and mixed some of them up. The area behind the stage was part of the exhibition. They were moving the images as I was trying to look at them. They could see what I was trying to do but there was no engagement by these people with me. It was if I wasn't there. I felt they were quite rude.
Michelangelo would not have been impressed!
P. A. B.
A must visit. Have lived in the area for ever and never been in. Today we were having a tourist day around Hull and the Minster was top of the list. Plenty of people to ask for information, a cafe for cake and drinks, quiet places for reflection, it's just a really good feeling. So if you fancy a warm drink in a different place and see what happened around 1280 AD and wonder how they ever did it and where the .money came from to do it then come. I found 3 mice! Peter Thomson!
P. A.
Beautiful church good cafe, home made cakes. Amazing Windows and lots of local history portrayed here. Well worth a visit. Close to indoor market which is also first class
S. W.
The Hart of Hull City Centre. Lots of history and lovely to walk round
P. W.
Beautiful architecture, and an impressive reminder of historic construction methods. View from the roof is fantastic. Also, they always seem to have a wide variety of events happening there.
M. U.
A very beautiful old church, recently had a major overhaul, gone are the pews and the old altar. Now it’s open and bright a good place to pop for a cuppa and there is a vast number of special exhibitions during the year.
R. K.
Good selection of varied bespoke stalls with something for everyone. Certainly worth a visit
T. B.
Great place to sing and worship
C. B.
My local church. I'm not a religious man by any means, but I do enjoy walking around the Minster soaking up the atmosphere. It's not as big as the likes or York Minster, but it is free entry, and there are often events centred in or around it, usually coinciding with events like the freedom festival.
G. N.
Beautiful interior, so light and airy. A real sense of reverence. Artworks going on, tea and coffee. I was delighted with the whole building and the followers m volunteers were more than welcoming.
r. c.
We visited the Minster today lovely Craft market & cafe However a lot of people we spoke to felt the "music & man singing " left a lot to be desired! Not enjoyable at all stall holders saying preferred their usual music which they provided normally!😶
s. w.
Very welcoming with interesting mix of artworks & informative guides. Surprised how small the Robert Thompson (mouseman) mice are. Some delicious snacks & drinks freshly made. Reasonably priced & original gifts. Water features outside were fascinating.
M. R.
We really enjoyed the exibition of the artwork of the cisteen chapel The minster is a beautiful place to visit in it's own right and continously offers a variety of events suited to everyone Try the beer festival and I believe they even do a 3 course lunch once a month Much more than just a place of worship
M. L.
A must for all visitors. I still refer to it as Holy Trinity as got married there. Lots of events take place fairly frequently. This week went to the first Lucia festival of light held here ever. Great success.
D. N.
Lovely cathedral. The beer festival was on when we were there
C. A.
Amazing went to see Michelangelo exhibition
P. C.
View from outside very impressed. Are also the modern artwork outside is interesting...
R. M. S. W.

D. H.
I am a volunteer there and proud to show visitors around our beautiful minster
a.
Absolutly lovely church, visually stunning and with the renovation work last year as part of the city of culture ut really is a beautiful sight. I often attend the sunday sermons which are great there is something for everyone with a more traditional service in the mornings and a more new age feel to the evening sermons its great! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming too
G. P.
Fantastic Minster in the old town of Kingston Upon Hull
D. R.
Love this place! Has lots of events for the whole community, and dog friendly too! Top marks!
M. H.
Beautiful building and very friendly people. Well worth a look. They also serve hot drinks for a donation if you fancy getting out of the cold in a peaceful environment.
B. S.
Very interesting church, well restored recently with a relatively tasteful entrance area, fountains! Good that it host a variety of secular events but the Italian art exhibition, smallish photos, was disappointing
P. C.
Recently refurbished trinity square really sets the Minster off. It's a great building to visit.
g. s.
Visited for the urban legends northern lights event. Excellent.
J. B.
We got one of our son's christening's done here.
Remarkable architecture and great for photography.
Has really become a centerpiece for the city of culture.
b. r.
Not on a size level of either York or Lincoln but that doesn't detract from the beauty of the place. The place is not just a place of worship but has other uses depending on the time of the year. Just to saunter around and view the stain glass windows is worth a little of your time. Although now designated a Minster I think that most locals still refer to the place by its previous name, Holy Trinity.
J. R.
Went to see the Michelangelo photos at the Minster. Absolutely amazing paintings it was a privilege see such wonderful art work. Would recommend to go and see before it leaves the Minster.
C. S.
Lovely old church right in the center of Hull
D. S.
Lots of interesting things happen here.
S. R.
Went to the Christmas market. Cost £2pp to go in. They were playing loud rock music, not a Christmas song to be heard and the stalls were way too expensive. Disappointing, got 3 stars as the market outside was lovely.
S. B.
It's a very big church, they have lots of different events staged inside and out. My last visit was to see a comic con event, they have also had a beer festival. If your in the area it's well worth a visit.
g.
A dynamic Christian community that actively engages with the local community. Building has interesting historical features, especially the stained glass, but it is also an open and welcoming space.
A. D.
A wonderful building set in very picturesque part of the old city. Well worth a visit for the church itself, we went to see the Michaelangelo exhibition and visited the craft fair.

J. H.
Fantastic place to house the 7 metre diameter sphere of the Earth exhibition!
A. S.
Trinity Church was a great experience. It is set in a quaint little part of town with great restaurants and shopping around. The church itself is very active in community events, even hosting a beer festival! There are also mice carved into the furniture by the carpenter commissioned to build it. It was fun to learn about the history of the church, area, and try to find all the mice!
J. F.
We opted for the Hull Minster History Tour. Our guide John was friendly and very knowledgeable. The Minster is very beautiful with a rich history. It is one of my favourite places in Hull.

A beautiful Minster, it's a real pity that there was an unpleasant rock show taking place in there and being rehearsed went l when we went round. Sacrilege! It's a wonderful building, go and look.

Very interesting exhibition on United Towing , which informed us of the unsung heros in the Industry. Mainly local Hull people. Meetings every Wednesday in the Kingston pub, which is across The Trinity Square. The pubs worth a visit as well.

B. M.
Such an amazing transformation! Eve has a beautiful and calming singing voice, they made our grandsons baptism so lovely and memorable.
V. G.
Lovely to visit, the Moon was a great thing to see close up, great shame about the Organ. This fine instrument needs a lot of money spent on it but it will be worth it.

This fantastic jewel in Hulls crown is being run by none careing people , graves have been desicrated there is no respect for the artifacts inside and they also intend to rip out all thd beautiful pews . Bands fashion shows beer swilling rock groups , what next crisps and bitter to replace bread and wine
IT IS DISGUSTING , AS BARNES TITLE SUGESTS HE SHOULD BE FIRED
