Reviews of St Michael's Church, Cornhill

St Michael, Cornhill, is a medieval parish church in the City of London with pre-Norman Conquest parochial foundation. It lies in the ward of Cornhill. The medieval structure was lost in the Great Fire of London, and replaced by the present building, traditionally attributed to Sir Christopher Wren. The upper parts of the tower are by Nicholas Hawksmoor. The church was embellished by Sir George Gilbert Scott and Herbert Williams in the nineteenth century.

Just passing by last Monday 6th) and heard a choir practising. Found out that there was to be a candlelit carol service in about one hour (6pm). Went for a drink next door in the Jamaica Inn then joined the service. The choir was very good and we had a good singalong too. Glass of wine and mince pie afterwards at the back of the church was very welcome and gave an opportunity to talk to people. Recommended for carol services.

This is a church tucked in between relatively newer building so it is very long and thin. Inside, the church is very well maintained and quite decorative and very light and bright.
The church has significant history and whilst not considered the oldest in London, it does date back to Saxon times. Its patron is The worshipful Company of Drapers.

Another of the city's underused church buildings of which there are many. It has an ornate and interesting interior.
It would be much better if all the people visiting came to use the church building for its original purpose, to worship God, hear his word (the bible) being taught, and understand about the good news of Jesus rather than just to look at some interior decorating.

Keep missing this church. While it was open today, I'm sure the wedding party could do without the added bother.
