This is a real gem. Had never visited before. Wonderful building steeped in history. Bought a CD of the choir which is very good, just disappointed that we couldn't get back for Evensong, another time maybe. We'll worth the visit.
P. B.
Very interesting, beautiful place with a lot of history! Chap/ guide on the door very helpful, full of knowledge interesting man... thank you... if your interested in The Knights Templar & connections to The Magna Carta 🏰

A stunning church with 800 years of history.
Spent a couple of hours there and really enjoyed it. (free autumn organ recitals at 1pm Wednesdays).

Famous church built by the Knights Templar. The area around the Temple Church is known as the Temple. Temple Bar, an ornamental processional gateway, formerly stood in the middle of Fleet Street. Nearby is the Temple Underground station. The River Thames is only a 5 min walk away. There are also bars and restaurants close by in Fleet Street. In the mid-12th century, before the construction of the church, the Knights Templar in London had met at a site in High Holborn in a structure originally established by Hugues de Payens (the site had been historically the location of a Roman temple in Londinium, now known as London). Because of the rapid growth of the order, by the 1160s the site had become too confined, and the order purchased the current site for the establishment of a larger monastic complex as their headquarters in England. In addition to the church, the new compound originally contained residences, military training facilities, and recreational grounds for the military brethren and novices, who were not permitted to go into the City without the permission of the Master of the Temple.
The church building comprises two separate sections: The original circular church building, called the Round Church and now acting as a nave, and a later rectangular section adjoining on the east side, built approximately half a century later, forming the chancel.

Lovely old templar church at inner temple London. Well worth a look
g. d.
I'm into history , crusaders, templar knights and William Marshall so this place is ideal for me.
J. M.
Very interesting and beautiful church! Loved it when someone started to play the organ.
C. P.
Great place for a wander, especially in the evening when it's quiet and empty.

A hidden gem in the heart of London. Surrounded by so many different styles of architecture through the century.
J. M.
Lovely church, very old, and a very helpful guide there.
R. K.
A lot of history, if you like Knights Templar, it is must to see
J. W.
I try to come here each year for the Christmas carols. This is the first time I've been in a couple of years due to Covid. The court and organ were wonderful with some delightful soloists.
M.
Had a brilliant Time with my son at the temple yesterday. The extremely nice gentleman at the desk was super knowledgeable about the place and was answering very happily to all questions asked. Recommend it highly .
S. M.
Little gem of a Templar church tucked away in the City of London, with an octagonal structure!
S. A.
Fantastic. You can feel the energy. I visited on a very quiet afternoon. Would definitely go back always when in London.
b. c.
Beautiful church steeped in history and mystery. Well worth a visit if you have an interest in the Knights Templar and the many mysteries associated with them.
Lots of information inside about the history of the church , there are also guide books on hand to purchase .
Lovely place , as with most churches ,very peaceful. So if you want to escape the city for an hour , serenity awaits you in Temple Church.
B. S.
All that is left of the church is ruins, but some its history has been preserved and together with the park, they make for a brilliant afternoon of relaxation with family and friends. Or if you're just looking to have some alone time. Highly recommended... make sure to find and press the button for some authentic English folk music.
K. F.
Interesting panels talking about the history of the church and major figures tied to the church. Beautiful stained glass windows.
D. A.
Very interesting visit to this wonderful historic church
P. W.
Ambiance wonderful, service well paced and inclusive in the welcoming space
A. T.
Beautiful and interesting church. Definitely worth a visit if you are near this part of town. Have a walk through the Inns to Inner Temple Garden while you are there.
E. F.
One of the 4 ancient rounded churches in the UK, this is perhaps the most important.
If you are interested in Templar spirituality, you cannot miss this landmark
A. B.
It is one of the most beautiful churches I have ever seen! Exquisite! Special! A historical place where Magna Carta came to life! The resting place of some of the Knights Templars!
d. d.
Set in the midst of the city of London, calm quiet place away from the bustle of the city. Few minutes walk from the temple/ blackfriars tube station.
It's not open on weekends, and subject to timings as per their website. The sunday mass and other timings can also be found here, best to check before visiting. 5 pound entry fee for adults, and 3 pounds if you are a student.
The insides have effigies of kings and knights on display, with stained glass windows telling stories of their own. All in all a historic place to visit. Not really a tourist hot spot, but worth the visit if interested in the history.
There's also a cafe operated by the church for lunch and serves decent coffee.

Temple Church is built by the famed Knights Templar. It has a rich local history and today serves as is an active Anglican church. Temple Church was designed after the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem and consecrated in 1185AD. Related, the Knights Templar were a society of soldier-monks who were tasked with protecting pilgrims in route to the Holy Land during the Crusades of the Middles Ages.
You can visit the Temple Church (£4 per person) but they have inconsistent opening hours so best to refer to the Temple website to confirm opening times before you attempt to visit. Inside you can see the famous 13th century effigies resting on the floor in the nave. The rest of the church is nice to see, displaying its Victorian Gothic features and other earlier period structures. We particularly enjoyed seeing the medieval figures and faces which line the round walls of the nave near the effigies.
These days the Temple Church is also known for having one of the finest choirs in England with evening performances that might be worth attending. Other attractions in the area include the Temple Bar, the Gothic style RCJ building complex, St. Clement Danes Church and other historic pubs and tea houses, like the original Twinning Tea Shop.

Absolutely fantastic. A superb visit. Looking forward to visiting it again in the future. Even returned to buy a book on its history
S. J.
A wonderful place to visit with a warm welcome from the staff, featuring fantastic architecture, sculpture, stained glass and a gallery giving views the length of the church.
A. P.
One of only four (I think) round churches in the UK, also used to be the Knights Templar HQ so has a unique history. William Marshall is buried here. If you're a church enthusiast this is one of the big ones
K. M.
Though we didn't pay to go in, we did enjoy the surrounding courtyard and the beautiful architecture. Located off the main thoroughfare just through the alley alongside Prince Henry's room. The current area surrounding the church are mainly offices to attorneys.
E. W.
Beautifully calm and serene. Well worth a visit
J. P.
Wonderful Carol Service. The choristers of the Temple Church Choir were amazing. Well done number one Grandson, Carter.
A. K.
Visited this church, because of the templar knights connection..was worth it! Not at all disappointing..it also houses a copy of the Magna Carta...very peaceful and serene church 👌
R. B.
A peaceful respite away from the bustling London streets. Wandered in completely unaware and was greeted by this lovely church bathed in the afternoon sun. It was stunning.
T.
Beautiful beautiful church hidden within middle temple. The most wonderful part of London
M. P.
Wonderful place, if you're looking for a different day out in London you definitely need to spend it here. I love exploring the area, it's easy to get lost in the many gardens!
d. c.
Lovely place - quiet in the heart of bustling city - worth the visit !
A.
the place is really suggestive. The Templars established their temple at this point in London. Inner Temple and Middle Temple are also very emotional
A. M.
it's very beautiful inside. These days it's closed for visitors.
a. h.
Quite a fascinating place, the fact it was consecrated in 1185 means its dripping in history. Most definitely worth a visit
C. E.
Beautiful church in a lovely place, so peaceful of a weekend
M. R.
It’s a beautiful church founded by the knight Templar. It’s easy to miss, but it should be a stop for anyone visiting London. You have to pay to enter, but it’s not much and well worth it.
E. C.
One must recall that this is a place of worship, not a usual tourist destination. For that reason the 5 pound entry supports the actual church activities so you can probably understand the reason for the charge. If you are really interested in medieval history, it is worth a visit. Be prepared to wander through the Inns if court and gardens, as the church is not easy to find.
Y. C.
Great view both during the day but better in the evening. Great selection of beers liquors and food. Perfect spot for a fish and chips plus IPA beer. Highly recommended especially if you have a guest from abroad.
G. M.
Beautiful inside, only small, steeped in history and only £5 entry..
T. S.
My husband wanted to visit this place whilst we were in London. Enjoyed taking the photos for memories.
M. S.
A wonderful building kept in beautiful condition, in a calm oasis close to Fleet Street. Not obvious to find but that means thousands aren't queuing to get in. Anybody with a sense of history will appreciate the significance of the building and the figures resting within it. A nominal fee of £5 to enter as an adult with no restrictions on photography although the church is still very much in use at different times. An inspiring piece of history spanning several hundred years.
L. M.
Very interesting and very old church.lots of information.
t.
Wonderful church and helpful knowledgeable staff well worth the visit
C. D. C.
This ancient cathedral was build during the medieval period of Knight Templars as seen on the Davinchi Code movie. The underground is completely restricted even though I gained secret access by a fellow Freemason! The Knights of the Rose Croix ( French ) is seen as an edifice in the ground. Spectacular Holy Grail explorers will enjoy this place which is equally full of secret symbols and crest. UK treat their tourist with upmost respect ( contrary to France)
J. P.
Tucked away amongst the picturesque buildings of The Temple, this Church is a beautiful oasis of calm and history.
M. H.
A very good place to spend a little time visiting. Make sure you are in on time. The church is splendid, but not the easiest place to find. Soaked in history and the centre of law. Cairfull not to trip over a judge as they go in to their chambers.
A. S.
The climate of the church is definietely worth the fee. I recommend to read its history before the visit to understand its uniqueness.
B. W.
A wonderful place, beautiful architecture and steeped in history.
D. T. M. M.
One of the most remarkable and historic sites in London, yet it's little known and you can have the place almost to yourself. The collection of grave effigies is considered the best in England, and of course one of the knights buried there is The Greatest Knight, William Marshal. Read his biography by that title, written by Thomas Asbridge.
H. S.
Historical and nice place to visit
K.
A beautiful historic church. It's a restoration (the original was destroyed in the Blitz) with gorgeous stained glass windows.
s. f.
If you are a fan of the da vinchi code, this place is a must simple as that.
N. L.
Wonderful building for a general visit or for one of the excellent concerts held there.
d. c.
Steeped in history. Didn't get inside but it's a nice quiet place in the heart of the city.
M. L.
Another place I like to walk around for the sake of it. Bang in the city yet quiet.
R. W.
Love this place, well worth a visit if you are interested in the history of the Templars.
M. J.
It is a fascinating place and the architecture is stunning.

The Temple Church(St.Mary’s) is aAnglican Church in London. It is located between Float Street and the river Thames in the city.Near the church, there are the Inner Temple and the Middle Temple, ancient and forested university schools for lawyers and magistrates. This church was built in the 12th century by the Knights Templar. A large monastic complex was built around the church. It was built on the model of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Built from two parts: the most ancient circular plan, called Round Church(consecrated in 1185).A second structure called the Chancel (the presbytery), or the Oblong, rectangular in plan , added in the thirteenth century, when King Henry III expressed a desire to be buried in this church, after his death. Temple Church is now used as a Chapel of the Inner School and Middle Temple.Last curiosity and I would like to say that is has nothing to do with the history of this church, bat it is simple curiosity about the present day ; because it was chosen by the writer Dan Brown,To set his familiar novel: “The Da Vinci Code”.
S.
A must when in London. Lovely organ recital on when we visited
M. C.
Nice church, very small, but worth the price. Trivia: the organ in the church was used for the Interstellar movie.
G. Y.
If Knights of the Temple interest you, the visit is a must.
L. K.
The history of this church is phenomenal, you can learn a lot by visiting it.
I. H.
If you like History and the Knights Templar you'll love it here.
B. R.
It was shut 🤷♂️
Second time round we found it to be very interesting and not from the Templar perspective as expected.
J. G.
Great place to vistit
D. M.
A stunning church, filled with history
M. V.
This place have magic inside, is so good, the people is so nice, is perfect
T. w. T.
Beautiful place! Staff is knowledgeable and very friendly.
C. S. B.
Full of history in an iconic building. Learnt a lot about the Templars. Well worth a visit. A haven of tranquility.
J. K.
Couldn't get in but it was a great place to find , very quiet just off the busy road
J. V.
Beautiful church, loads of history.
B. C.
Smaller than most of the English churches that people visit, and with better history than many of them. The greatest knight who ever lived, William Marshal, is buried there.
The church is a little tricky to find, but it’s worth the effort.
M. D.
Interesting old church with a remarkable history. Presentation is excellent, staff are friendly, price is reasonable. It's not a large church, so can reasonably be seen in under an hour. It is a bit tucked away, may be difficult to find if not using directions.
D. K.
Great experience!
Fantastic old beautiful church. Inspiring mosaics and old stone columns.
But expected more museum for 5£
Plus side visited while the organ was playing.
D.
Well conserved church. Beautiful stained gleass windows. A lot to discover in it.
P. M.
Very nice old church with a long history.
S. T.
Jerusalem in London. You can FEEL the millennia of history
V. V.
I just had a walk around the area - the church closes quite early, but if you happen to be in the area - then it absolutely worth the visit. Enjoy beautiful garden views, luxurious buildings and breath in the mysterious air of rich history in this area
S. M.
Rich of history place and the Knights of the Temple in Jerusalem
P. J.
Wow what an amazing place. Fantastic to visit though quite awkward to find. A small charge for entry but well worth the money. Small spiral staircase leads up to a viewing area. A wonderful display and explanation of the church and its history. Also has full size effigies on display which are quite wonderful.
P. R.
Beautiful church....Was lucky enough to of visited while the choir was rehearsing. Beautiful stain glass windows and wonderful plaque's and coats of arm throughout the church. Well worth a visit when you're in the area.
s. m.
Middle Temple is one of those quiet and secret places in London that most tourists miss. A beautiful, quiet space. Don't expect cafes etc just a walk in the leafy lanes. The church has some splendid knights.
G. F.
The building itself is spectacular and full of historic and well-presented artefacts. However, call me a bluff old stick-in-the-mud but I'm not accustomed to paying an entrance fee (in this case £5) to get into a church. I take it that this is a more widespread phenomenon throughout London than just here, but it does seem incongruous at a time when a lot of museums are (still) free.
That said, the interior is spotlessly clean and full of interesting stuff, so a well-deserved four stars overall.
M. N.
Awesome clean and beautiful area and gardens - so worth a visit.
Unfortunately the church was closed.
A. D.
Saw Antic Disposition's performance of Macbeth - excellent. They regularly use Temple Church, an amazing space to perform with vaulted ceiling and stained glass windows. One of my favourite venues. It is also an interesting historic building
D. R.
That place is so full of history, I'm very impressed.
R. Q.
Super interesting and not too expensive
I. S.
Beautiful oasis of calm, superbly maintained church. Well, it's been around for nearly 1,000 years and is packed with history as well as tombs of Knights. Interesting display on the history of Magna Carts and its influence on the American Constitution. Worth the time, especially when there's an excellent cellist performing.
C. M.
Fantastic. A lots history in this builden
S. V.
As an avid fan of Dan Brown this church was on my travel plas for a while before I could actually set my feet in it. And well, I was astonished with the whole experience! The place itself is located out of regular street path and the walk there is already a nice stroll to appreciate. It is a free of charge visit and the person that was taking care of the entrance was a nice old chap with a great amount of knowladge about the charge and its history, and he was nice enough to share a bit of it with me and my husband. When you leave I'd strongly recommend you to walk the other direction (that means to go back from where you came) and appreciate a nice view of the Royal Courts of Justice, which a great 1870s building. Also, there's a nice Twinnings Tea shop near there where you can taste the tea of the day for free. :)
A. M.
If you like charming places this is a must for a London visit. I enjoyed an organ concert with an excellent acoustic in a medievo atmosphere. The small 5 pounds charge is worth. The surroundings of the church are amazing , you should walk around the place to see very nice building an gardens.
S. P.
Absolutely breathtaking church constructed by the Knights Templar
m. t.
Fascinating church originally built by the Knights Templar and dedicated in 1185 as their London headquarters; it has been added onto over the centuries and bomb damage from WWII was repaired. Particularly interesting are the stone heads carved along the walls of the circular porch; known as "grotesques," the facial expressions range from the silly to the agonized. Although a little hard to find, the Temple Church is NOT to be missed by history buffs.
N. L.
Lovely church, full of history and vibrations. Closed during the weekend you will have to visit during the week, but before 4 or 4:30pm. There's a fee charge for entering £3 reduced for seniors and children, and £5 for the rest. Difficult to find if you are searching for a church, look for some big wooden dark doors in the middle of Fleet Street (with chancery Lane), which by the way, it's an outstanding street!
L. B. (.
One of the most historically interesting places I've ever in counted.
A. H.
Great day out with a visit to Englands greatest knight
J. H.
I love the Temple area - it's particularly special because most of the grounds of the Inner and Middle Temple are only open to the public in the daytime on Mondays to Fridays.
I think I enjoyed all the little courtyards and alleyways outside as much as the church itself, but the interior of the church is definitely worth a visit, and has quite a unique feel to it.
K. Y.
A beautiful church with amazing history! Truly love the feeling and atmosphere when in there!
J. W.
Fascinating little church with unusual architecture and a rich history.
M. U.
Admission 5£ for adult. Must visit
T. M.
Quite and Peaceful . just a short walk down a lane to the Temple Church, off Fleet street. Amazing 1185 AD . OMG such a beautiful church and OLD. Hard for an Aussie to get there heads around the age. Small entrance fee but they have to pay to keep this looking so good for the Age.
K. J.

Lovely church just off Fleet Street near Tipperary pub. Exceeding load organ was being practiced when I visited at lunch time. Some great see through floor panels of ancient marble
N. N.
This has been on our 'must visit' list for a few years and we never made the time until now.
£5 entry fee per person was just the right price to make this feel worth it, without feeling that you were subsidizing something too much.
Simply put, if you have any interest in Knights Templar, this is a fantastic place to visit. It looks like it was built yesterday, it is so well cared for - but has all the evidence of the nearly 900 years of history it claims.
Tucked away just a minutes walk from Fleet Street, this a great place to visit to get a sense of some of the history of this country and another tick on the bucket list!
R. A.
Such a splendid place too watch Shakespeare, any play, of course!
The Isis whispers nearby on a quiet night, the trickle of the tidal flow receding, the play begins..... darkened night the eye does lazy notice, dim the hush do flickered candles thrice. Faces glow a-staring awe, hells inmates tread the floor...stories more and more Galore! .....a time remender'd all the more.
Z. K.
Beautiful building where the davinci code was filmed
M. J.
An unusual church in that the pews are sideways and face the aisle rather than the alter. I went as an audience member to a live broadcast on BBC Radio 3 for a Carol concert and the sounds of the choir sound exquisite. The church comes in two parts the round church from the original knights templar and then the rectangular part where the seating mainly is.
E. D.
An amazing building. Steeped in Knights Templar history . Wonderful serene atmosphere.
s. d.
I love this place indeed, so much story inside the walls
R. G.
UK home of the Knights Templar and where the Magna Carta sprung it's roots. A phenomenal period in history captured on info boards around the Church and the tombs of of the Knights. Beautiful church which has been ravaged down the years with wars etc but preserved to a very high standard all credit to those entrusted with its upkeep down the centuries. You can enter through a time warp close from Fleet Street as can be seen on the photo. Easy access for disabled, no toilets on site.
M. H.
Historic site with good information boards to read. Visit the top floor too to look down over the Knights effigies. Be aware there are no toilet facilities.
E. J.
The church of the Knights Templar, a medieval gem.
M. T.
Great church, HUGE history background. Well worth it to enter and understand more about it. Unfortunately, there was no service in August on sundays, so I will need to return later on to see the choir.
J. S.
Grade 1 listed building. One of London's hidden gems! The entrance can be a little hard to find.
One of 3 or 4 circular Knights Templer churches that still survives in the UK. The Knights Templers always built circular churches.
Used as an international bank in the 12th century as the Knights Templers were the richest organisation. They lent money to a variety of European Kings, which eventually led to their downfall via King Philip 6th of France who didn't want to have to pay them back!
The Round Church built in 1100's and consecrated 1185 by Patriarch Heraclius of Jerusalem, for the Knights Templers HQ in the UK and used for initiation services. This part of the church, (now used as the nave) has the earliest surviving free standing perbeck marble columns in the UK. It also contains 9 lifesize 13th and 14th century stone effigies of noble knights. A wood paneled circular ceiling surrounded by high up windows. Feels very light and airy within with a plethora of rhubarb like columns and arches.
The rectangular part of the church was erected 1200's and consecrated 1240. Has 3 parts. The middle is used for services and concerts and has excellent acoustics.
The Magna Carta was signed here in 1215. Shakespeare alluded to it through his Henry 6th part 1 and The War of the Roses. In 2002 this was commemorated with the planting of a red and a white rose bushes planted in the garden.
Both the circular and the rectangular parts have separate libraries and gardens.
Christopher Wren renovated it after The Great Fire of London 1666 as did the Victorians into Gothic style interiors.
£5 entry and worth every penny! It is rarely crowded as everytime I have been I have been the only person there. Open 10am to 4pm Mondays to Fridays.
No toilets!
In close proximity to Central Criminal Court (Old Bailey), St Sepulchre's Church, London's first drinking fountain, St Paul's Cathedral, Bart's Pathology Museum, Museum of London, The Golden Boy of Pye Corner, The River Thames, The Millennium Bridge, The Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.
Nearest stations are Temple, Blackfriars and City Thameslink.
S. L.
When you are in the mad hustle and bustle of the city and you’ve walked ten minutes west you can turn south into Temple. It’s quite serene you find yourself in a peaceful area and there nestled in amongst the C17th & C18th buildings you come across the home of the Knights Templar. A church that’s defied all the change which has gone on around it for more than eight centuries.
H. J.
A beautiful, hidden gem. Part of this is the old, original Templar church. It's where the great William Marshal is interred, and they have a bit of his history, that of the Knights Templar, and of the Magna Carta hanging for one to read about. The space is lovely, though it does cost £5 to go in. Still, if you are a fan of Will Marshal, it's worth it!
D. C.
Acoustics spot on. A great end
V. N.
It may be difficult to visit because of the limited opening hours, but it definitely worths a visit. Please consider that due to the fame acquired after the Da Vinci code, now it has an entrance cost of 5£.
S. C.
Step back nearly a thousand years in this quiet enclave, just steps away from the busy 21st century world. The church was stripped of it's treasures when the Knights Templar were disbanded, but the architecture and the tombs of said knights are amazing. If you have kids, they'll love the grotesque stone faces that circle the inside. There's a huge amount of history here, all in a jewel box sized church. Well worth a visit.
O. G.
The hidden gem of City of London. "Must to see" for fans of Da Vinci's Code film. It's really beautiful nook of London, the place with especial atmosphere. There is a many events during a year in the church so I recommend to check opening hours prior your visit, if you want to go inside.
J. S.
It looks lovely from the outside but was closed when we arrived plus there are no services during July and August. It is a very interesting area with all the QC Chambers in the vicinity.
A.
A lovely church with a deep and long history within the legal fraternity. Fascinating place and exhibition. We also attended a concert that was excellent
G. L.
Nice to catch up with William Marshall
M. R.
Temple Church is very special for so many reasons. If you visit London or live/work in London it is a must visit. A round church with an Oxbridge college style chancel attached, beautifully maintained and lit. A fabulous choir and singers, who sing Sunday mornings and my regular weekly visit at 5.30pm on Wednesdays for Evensong. The organ is recently refurbished and is possibly the best sounding organ in the UK. You may have heard it on the Interstellar movie soundtrack. Check the website for services, organ recitals, concerts and exhibitions.
J. S.
Loved the church's,'but male staff very negative towards questions about the Templers
R. B. -. E. k.
Popped in briefly.
Magnificent architecture and quite breathtaking.
A real hidden gem which is definitely on my "must-visit-again-soon" list.
Loved it, simply fantastic.
K. B.
Take care of restricted opening times of the temple district
H. H.
Made popular by the film and book but doesn't contain the bodies of templars! The modern church is nice in its modern form after the original being destroyed during WW2 but I begrudge paying to go into a church.
R. W.
A very informative experience of the history of knights Templar which also gave good information on the creation of Magna Carta. A very well kept church. Worth a visit.
E. C.
Temple Church in London is a 12th century Royal Peculiar Church built by the Knights Templar. It is a stunning Gothic building, with high vaulted ceilings and excellent stained glass.
The iconic round structure, like many Templar buildings, is similar to that of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. It was built in the mid 12th century and consecrated by the Patriarch Heraclius of Jerusalem in 1185.
Before the construction of the Temple Church, the Knights met in what had been a Roman Temple in High Holborn, a site established by first grandmaster Hugues de Payens.
The Templars were a very powerful order in England in the middle ages. The Master of the Temple sat on Parliament. During the reign of King John, the church acted as Royal Treasury, and the Order had great wealth throughout Europe.
One of the nine stone effigies in the nave, William Marshall acted as negotiator for King John at the signing of the Magna Carta in 1215. Marshall was later regent during the reign of John's infant son, Henry III.
The Knights Templar were destroyed and abolished on 1307. The church became a crown possession before being given to the Knights Hospitaller, who in turn gave it to two colleges of law. These developed into the Inner and Middle Temples, two of the four London Inns of Court.
The church escaped the Great Fire of London, but was extensively remodelled by Christopher Wren anyway. It was heavily bombed during the London Blitz but has since been faithfully restored.
There is a small charge to enter the church, £5 for adults, less for children and concessions.
T. L.
A wonderfully preserved part of mediaeval history and architecture. Burial place of William Marshall, one of the most powerfull men in English history. Much less busy than some of the other historical churches in London.
H. B.
Copies of magna carta. Royal Peculiar Church. Stalls face each other ie side on - why? in order for side to sing and then the other side to sing the response. Knights Templar (remember Da Vinci code?) gave it to the lawyers in Old & Middle temple. £5 entrance fee but really interesting.
B.
Beautiful historical location! The knights Templar where there, a long time ago. And the wall with arches outside represents the border between the City and the rest of the World!
P. R.
A must visit building, it is a little hard to find, but well worth the effort. The home of the Knights Templar, spend some time here and you may just get a feeling of their lives and times.
A. B.
Went to a classical choral concert. Great acoustics and atmosphere for the music. Didn't have time to browse the exhibition but will return.
R. J.
The Temple Church is one of the oldest of London's churches and was built by the Knights Templar in 1185. It is a round church (the typical Templar style) and is, perhaps, most famous to many people because it features in the book and the film of The Da Vinci Code. However, there are many other reasons to visit this wonderful church. There are, for example, the effigies of the recumbent knights that can be seen inside. There are the carved faces that line the wall inside, it's great fun to do a selfie imitating one or more of these faces! But there's also the history that you can just feel all around you. One word of warning. It doesn't open at a set time but they do post their opening hours on their website so be sure to check that it will actually be open if you're going to make a special journey in.

Churches are not normally my thing, but this one was interesting. Amazing architecture and lots of history behind it. Quite difficult to find though.
M. M.
I visited the church due to its templar knights heritage.
R. S.
I first came here 40 years ago when I was living in East London. There was no Dan Brown or similar to bring me here. It took a long time to find with my trusty old London A-Z. It was really a hidden Gem. The inside of the old church is austere and the "graves". Not sure what to call then, were fascinating.
I was staying just a couple blocks away visiting a law firm in the area. I had to get by and see it again. It's not so hard to find now, and they get Da Vinci code tours every day. Despite that, it's still quiet and unspoiled. I could sit in the area for hours.
F. B.
The history, alone, of this church was enough for me to make the trip. It's amazing how something so old can still stand & be in use today. It took me a while to figure out how to find the church because it's located in a nice quiet spot. This church was built by the Knights Templar & you'll find some of them buried there. You'll have to pay 5 GBP to see that part of the church along with the mini art exhibit upstairs which you'll have to use a spiral staircase to get to. If you come to sit & pray, you won't need to pay anything. On Sundays, service is held at 8:30 am. Be sure to check their website, if you plan on going, to make sure it's open.
S. C.
Wow. A slice of history. You instantly step back in time to the Knights of the crusades. I learnt so much about magna carter here. A hidden gem tucked away amount the law court s and inns.
M.
Jam packed full of history & interesting information about the Knights Templar especially. Go up the stairs to the upper floor for great views.
S. B.
An amazing place to visit, regardless of the connection with Da Vinci Code. History and education in a beautuful part of London.
B. L.
Lovely small church amongst Inns if Court or nearby. Go at lunch time and there may be an organ re ital or other. When I was there the organ recital was wonderful
A. C.
A must see for the Da Vinci code fan. Wander the Temple area as well as the church. Be sure to climb the stairs for a great view of the Temple Knights.
S. J.
The dawn of banking, the Magna Carta, more history than will ever be told. It's not super easy to find, but you won't regret making it to this more obscure London attraction.
B. B.
The Temple Church is a little bit hidden. But it is worth to surch for. Beautiful and historical Church. The entry is just 5£. So go there!
A. F.
For 5 GBP, the exhibition area is quite small, although I did learn a little. There were people milling around with projectors and electronic equipment and interrupted my visit.
S. S.
This place is so interesting. The intersection with the Da Vinci Code is the least of it. History of the Templars, Magna Carta, and the history of people's rights are woven into the displays.
P. L.
This one is very easy to miss but you shouldn't miss it! ;)
m. a.
Historical place very old church
K. P.
Wonderful prayer filled place
o. o.

Interesting place. Only knew about it by the Da Vinci Code. Lovely stained glass. Plenty of information about the Knights Templar. Worth a look.
B. L.
The dawn of banking, the Magna Carta, more history than will ever be told. It's not super easy to find, but you won't regret making it to this more obscure London attraction.
m. w.
Some great Architecture, beautiful surroundings, very peaceful, the house beside the church has to be the most photographed garden in London
N. M.
Awesome church, one I saught out purposefully. Very old, rich history, and there was actually a production going on in the church the day we walked by.
C. G.
Peculiar yet wonderful little church in the midst of law offices (chambers, as they call it). Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code has certainly led me to this somewhat magnificent repository of soulful contemplation.
M. B.
Loved this place. History..History and Knights! Specifically the Templar Knights. Just check as they close from memory Mondays, and early 3/4pm in the afternoons.
R. S.
Small, friendly service, hard to find.
S. D.

Try to attend a service or just go to learn about the Crusaders. The genuine article.
It has never failed to greatly interest those whom I have taken there.

An amazing church so much history and peaceful surroundings. The services and music here are fabulous and clergy friendly and warm welcoming.
J.
A charge is made to enter which is a shame, was a location used for the Da Vinci code filming apparently so suppose it's on the money making tourist trail, felt like there was a lot of history around this area
N. O.
