A fantastic setting with some great places for budding adventurers to explore nearby ...this Anglo-Saxon church dates back to 1060...and there was a wooden church on the site before and prior to that a stone circle one of the stones can be seen adjacent to the West tower.
It also contains a very large Anglo-Saxon sundial which is above the main door entrance.
There are a lot of unusual markings and historical artefacts to be found both in and outside of the church. A couple of 100m away from the church if you follow the main road you might come across some caves

This late saxon church is well worth seeking out there is plenty of parking which highlights that this is a popular and sought out church. There is a late saxon sundial above the porch and a couple of 8th century coffin covers. Def worth a stop

Interesting and easily accessible.
Worth seeing, not worth going to see.
If you're in the area, go to the crypt in St Mary's at Lastingham, it is exceptional.

A truly beautiful Saxon church. The sundial inscription dates the rebuilding of the church accurately as Tostig Godwinson became Earl of Northumbria in 1055, deposed in 1065 and killed at the battle of Stamford Bridge in September 1066. King Edward the Confessor died earlier on 5th January 1066. The inscription itself is in Anglo Saxon with a Scandinavian influence.

We couldn't see the inside as the church was closed when we got there. But the outside structure was very different from any other churches I've seen before!

Quaint, quiet and so peaceful. Surprising how many people are buried there!!!

Great peaceful location, beautiful old church and graveyard, lovely walks up by the usually dry river bed, noting that the limestone bedrock in the river is full of fossils. Fantastic family day out in the country with the lovely old market towns of Kirbymoorside, Pickering and Helmsley close by, the later two complete with castles.

A great looking historical building in an amazingly serene setting. There is a short walk from the minster through the woods, past Low Hagg farm and back through Robin Hood's Howl, which is especially nice in the autumn. This is a very poignant place for me to visit and remember my wonderful mother, Jenny Brand. Thanks to Rev Susan Binks for the kindness she showed during my visit in march 2020.

Amazing service. The church was beautiful. The vicar was very well spoken and cracked a few good lighthearted jokes in the ceremony.

It was closed, despite all the websites I read saying it was open all day. Perhaps the owners of the sites could update the information. Three stars for the outside but I feel sure it would have been worth five if I could have seen inside.

Amazing atmosphere here. Always visit when on holiday in these parts. Spent over on hour soaking it up outside as church was closed - covid I am sure.

A tiny hidden gem...in a secluded valley setting yet readily accessible for the Pickering to Thirsk main road. Very ancient centre of Christian worship...well worth the visit...a chance to pause and reflect...

One of the cosiest corners of the tabular hills. Worth a visit to see the amazing 11th century Anglo-Scandinavian sundial and architecture. A snapshot into how people were going about their daily lives 1000 years ago.
The church also contain several small books for purchase with further info about the building.

I went to look at the sundial. Interesting church as grounds. Sheep in the graveyard. Easy and plentiful parking. Long may it remain little visited.

Fascinating place, full of history, and there's a link between Tostig in 1066 and his son in 1068.
