Cannot fault brunch here. Had the Huevos Rotos which were great - chorizo very flavoursome. Would absolutely visit again for another brunch item on the menu!

My daughter is a regular here. Today was my 2nd visit. Both visits, I've been impressed with the genuine warmth & friendliness of the staff. We had the last 2 seats in the place today, yet we were seated, served coffee and food delivered to the table in a little under 15 minutes. For delicious, freshly cooked food, that's incredible. I wasn't hungry today, so only ordered scrambled eggs & toast. Basic, I know. GM somehow managed to turn the lowly scrabled egg into something utterly delicious! The best eggs I've ever had in my life! The atmosphere and decor inside GM is quirky & deliberately 'grungy (not to be mistaken for dirty. It's certainly not)! Once inside, it's hard to believe that you're on the main road into Belfast. Love this place. I plan to become as much of a regular is my daughter.

♿️✅ Elevated entrance but they have a ramp for everyone to enter in on, seating is quite decent with different sized tables. Came here one morning with some friends and tried their baked beans dish, I was hooked from there, came back the next day for another dish, this time being the potato dish, amazing! I have to say their coffee here is amazing as well, on point guys! 👌

Wonderful food! I chose from today's special menu. My pulled pork on a Bagel with Apple Sauce and a fried egg, was beautifully presented. The restaurant was buzzing with a short line of people waiting to be served; a good sign indicating its popularity. First time visitor; it will not be my last!

Visited here last Sunday for a brunch meal with a few friends. This is the second time I have visited but never left a review the last time (2 years ago). I had the GM breakfast which was very tasty with high quality ingredients. Very good portion size. I also had a flat white. Coffee was ok. Nothing exceptional and I actually found it very bitter leaving an unpleasant aftertaste. The restaurant itself can get very busy and we were waiting for around 20 minutes waiting on a table. When you are seated, it really is luck of the draw. We were seated very close to the front and it felt very crammed in. This made it slightly unpleasant as all the other people waiting for tables were basically on top of us. The restaurant is also very dark and quite loud when it gets very busy making it difficult to have a conversation. I understand that this can't be helped as it is a very popular spot and rightly so but just want to make others aware. Overall, very tasty food. Ok coffee. Can get extremely busy at peak times affecting your overall expericence.

I had breakfast here, have had lunch before, (chicken burger) and it was good but the fries breakfast (General) left me generally disappointed. I ordered a side of home made baked beans, they were very fragrant and overpowering, the poached eggs were slightly under and full of water, the latte was a bit cold too, (came out after food arrived) the waiter did kindly take the beans off the bill hence the 3rd star.

Not sure how to mark this one. I had the bacon and black pudding with 2 poached eggs on a toasted brioche bun. It was delicious and perfectly cooked. However I had to wait over 15 mins AFTER I had finished my meal for my coffee to arrive. My 2 friends (both white flat addicts) declared the coffee to be the best they had tasted on the Ormeau Road. So I'm left with a score of 4. Had it not been for the long wait for the coffees it would definitely have been a 5. Maybe next time.

Me and my fiancée were having a bad day so we thought we would treat ourselves to some lunch as we haven’t been here for a while. From the moment we stepped in, we had never felt so welcomed in such an establishment. My fiancé in particular is going through a tough time and the kindness shown to us today exceeded both of our expectations and brought tears to my partners eyes . To the gentleman who’s act of kindness made my fiancé’s day we can’t thank you enough , this isn’t just a place to eat and have great coffee but it’s a place of comfort and kindness , a stop on a rainy or tough day . Thank you ever so much , we can’t wait to come back already keep up the incredible work it’s no wonder this place has a fantastic reputation . I would give it 20 stars if I could 🌟

Visit this place regularly and the food is usually very good, the coffee is excellent also. Great spot for brunch. I'd recommend the Heuvos Rotos, although for a while they replaced the chorizo with bacon which was a pretty disappointing substitution. Staff are always very pleasant and welcoming. However, on each of the last 2 visits one plate of food has been forgotten about and we've had to remind a waiter to bring it out after waiting a while which tainted the visits. Otherwise a great cafe 👍

My local since I moved to the area, the coffee is Melbourne standard and food is always unreal. Only thing is the wait times for take away coffee seems to be quite long 15mins alot of the time. Wondering if there's no way they could do them faster out the side window, but may be there's only 1 machine? Don't know what the solution is. (Period products in the loos would be great too like others on ormeau.) Overall my go to most days and staff are always fab and so good to our dogs so 5 stars 👏

Great service, great food. Its all good. Whenever we turn up there is always a queue, sometimes that extends as far as outside the door. The staff are brilliant though at turning around the tables. As soon as someone has paid their bill and leaving the tables are cleared and set up for the next set of customers. Once sat and you've chosen your food, you will not be disappointed, I'd always recommended the General whether you're there for breakfast, brunch or lunch.

Honestly the best lunch I’ve ever had. I knew the flavour combinations sounded amazing but I wasn’t expecting such a perfect dish. Crunchy bread, sweet beetroot, sour cream cheese and the silky, creamy avocado and eggs. Wow! ♥️

An enjoyable restaurant with a cosy ambiance. We went there for lunch on a week day and it was relatively busy and a queue had developed after we were seated but we did not have to wait at all. Service was quick and staff were friendly and professional. Food is clearly made of high quality ingredients and is mostly healthy. I would recommend this place to anyone that wants a nice healthy option for brunch, lunch or dinner. Only downside I see: prices are on the higher end of the scope compared to the size of the dishes. But that's probably what you have to pay for if you want good ingredients.

Love this place, cosy, friendly and great music any time of day. The brunch menu is awesome but the specials are what keep me coming back. Great for a coffee, small bite or full meal. They've recently changed the coffee here, its gone from great to flawless. One of the best cups in the country. They also do guest coffees and teas that are always worth checking out.

I had heard great things about the coffee, so I just had to try this place. The Raspberry and White Chocolate cake I had was wonderful. However, the coffee was very under extracted and the cup wasn't warmed. I don't get the fuss around the coffee because mine wasn't made very well. They have good beans but don't seem to know how to brew them properly. The staff were okay, but not fantastic. I'm sure the food is great, but I haven't tried anything more than the cake.

The shady bistro interior was very inviting on a hot afternoon. I was tempted in for a late and unplanned lunch. Service is brisk and efficient. Lucky enough to have the day to myself, I opted for an icy glass of the recommended Rosè. There were three lunch options available, as well as the all day breakfast/brunch staples. I bypassed the Soma chicken burger eaturing soy glazed chicken, and the Porchetta Focaccia, and opted for the Romesco Al Fresco, a grilled chicken and cauliflower salad, served with nutty millet, leaves, almonds and a hibiscus ricotta. The ricotta was delicious, an unusual and flavourful pairing with the chargrilled chicken strips and generous portions of millet, almonds and charred cauliflower. Water was kept topped up. Without room for afters, I made a mental note of the fresh banana scones to try on a future occasion. I spent £16.00. General Merchants is an old favourite which I hadn't visited since Lockdown. Judged by today, it deserves its position as one of the most reliable eateries on the Ormeau Road.

We ate at the restaurant last night, with no booking, we still were given a great table with no fuss at all. Our server was Aoife and the Bar server was Michael. Amazing mouthwatering menu! I had the prawns to start with and we both had the cod for mains, Aoife recommended a fantastic red, which was a perfect accompaniment, although I should have listened to Michael who said we should have had a bottle! It’s my second time here and the ambience is second to none, the staff deserve a mention as they are so friendly and attentive. Cannot wait to eat here again! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

General Merchant Ormeau Rd We like General Merchants (Newtownards Rd) and go there quite regularly,so when we found ourselves on the Ormeau Rd one lunchtime we decided to call in. This restaurant is probably a better layout, and the food is of a similar style and just as good. The Anatolian eggs were fantastic and the chai tea latte is one of the best around. The huevos rotos were also tasty and filling- crispy fried eggs with delicious fried potatoes and creamy avocado. And we couldn’t resist ordering a side of griddled halloumi.

Its always slighty nerveracking moving into a new neighbourhood, let alone new city/country. I have only just nailed down the right places to get coffee in London after 3 years of a lot of dissapointing milky, psuedo coffee-like beverages. So you can imagine how relieved I was last month to find that there is a place within a well struck 7 iron of my new home, that serves serious coffee!! I went on three seperate occasions and had three different baristas serve me, and the consistency was bang on. I called my Kiwi mate in Brixton and shared with him my exciting news, I'm even planning on putting it on our wedding invitations so our Australian friends and family will be less anxious about being too far away from a flat white. If the baby monitor reception reaches to this cafe then I may have a real moral dilemma on my hands. Really looking forward to being oblivous to some foul weather due to the warm and fuzzy, jacked up on too much caffeine state I can see myself being in.
