Reviews of Maggie May's
M. B.
We came here because of the queues outside and we were not disappointed.
The service was friendly and quick. Seated in no time at all. Such a big menu and nice to be in a proper cafe food place. We were greedy and ordered the mushrooms and the cheesy garlic soda bread to start with and then a beef and a chicken burger. I had the mushrooms and chicken burger. It’s been ages since I’ve eaten breaded mushrooms and these were excellent. Hot. Crunchy and juicy. Great garlic Mayo too.
The chicken burger was unusual because it was battered and not breaded. I loved this.
They didn’t last very long at all. Washed down with a bananas milkshake that reminded us of being kids again!

We tried another place yesterday which was pretty awful, so was had high hopes for this place given the positive reviews and was not disappointed. Plenty of portions, huge menu selection even with dedicated vegitarian and vegan options which I was not expecting to see. The service was prompt and the host very polite. Great price for the the portions you get and the food is not greasy. Couldn't ask for a better start to the day.
M.
I really liked having breakfast here, the vegan menu is HUGE and I really appreciate that. Staff were friendly and it was cosy. The portions were really generous for the cost. However, I'm not sure if I would necessarily come back for the flavour alone as the vegan fry elements were a bit one dimensional, same as well for the enormous milkshake (wouldn't order it again tbh). But it was filling the gap of "vegan fry up" and it was very reasonably priced and hot, the coffee was excellent too.

The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The cafe is cozy and very appealing, it was not crowded when were there. The food is awesome, i think its the best full breakfast i had in a while and banana toast is a must try.
A.
Good wholesome home-style faire at this hugely popular Belfast establishment. Very attentive staff. Varied menu. Outside covered seating excellent for people watching and provides shelter from our notoriously unpredictable weather.
H. T.
The staff is lovely and friendly. I saw the reviews were quite good so I rang and booked a table for 4. Didn't read the menu so I was a bit disappointed they didn't do steak. I had the lasagne but never ate it as it was quite dry. My son loved his milkshake and they seemed popular while we were there as many people came and left with 1. Still a nice place to eat and not to dear at all
I. B.
Food amazing, staff friendly, music and ambient really, really good..
You won't leave hungry, portions are huge
S. S.
Super cute place with a nice relaxed atmosphere. I'd even say homey. I had a vanilla steamer which was lovely and a drink I used to only be able to get at Starbucks, my partner had a raspberry coconut cake with warm custard which was delicious and visually beautiful, and I have the loaded nachos with added chili. A bit expensive for the cake but the nachos were a huge portion even though it was a starter. Delicious, straightforward food.
A. K.
Could sum the place up in one word. SUPERB !!!. Never disappoints. The decor is basic but clean and the staff are both friendly and attentive. The food is simply divine. Menu is very varied with something for everyone and very reasonably priced. Really can't praise Maggie Mays enough
J. M.
The fry is great, but the restaurant on Botanic Ave has windows at the front which they insist on leaving open and as such all the smoke from normal and recreational cigarettes flows in around you while you are trying to eat. Surprised the council haven't been up. But the fry has always been v good when I've been in. Best in Belfast to be fair.
A. M.
My shake was so cute and delicious. I got one of the breakfast sampler plates, it was excellent. The portions are very big, so I would ask the size before you order.
R. G.
Had the omelette with fries and salad, I was expecting an actual salad. Didn't realize it was just lettuce with slices of tomato, onions and grated cheese. It was still good just not what I thought it was going to be. My husband had buffalo burger and fries which he enjoyed. Found the seating a bit cramped but overall a good experience.
A. M.
Had the Irish breakfast with a cup of tea. Hit the spot perfectly and service was good
S.
The atmosphere is typical of these kind of diners: a little chaotic but merry. The food was tasty and milkshakes great and abundant. The prices are also quite fair! Recommended!
S. F.
Maggie Mays is a comfort place for me; I know they have things I like on the menu, that are vegetarian and that it will be good. This latest visit, I was pleasantly surprised to find they have even produced a separate vegetarian menu, which also contains numerous vegan options.
P. G.
I pop into Maggie Mays every now and again and have become addicted to the Taco Topped Burger.
If you haven't tried it, you should.
One of the best burgers around and staff are always friendly and efficient.
G.
Amazing food and great, quick service! Was in and out in about 40 mins, and they even gave my dog a but of sausage which he loved.
R. V.
Nice people and places. Just arrived in town and had to visit a Maggie!
C. Q.
On first entry it was warm and cosy, we ordered our breakfast and met lovely friendly staff, our breakfast was delicious and tasty? I would highly recommend this Cafe.
D. L.
Great food! My wife and I had the Full Fry and it was honestly really good. I recommend asking for syrup or jam if you like it because there is only ketchup and hp sauce stationed at the tables. Great view of the botanic garden across the way and good service, they are courteous and make sure you're taken care of. This is a big tourist attraction for sure, but our uber driver said the locals love it too.
T. A.
Quality food at reasonable prices, great service lovely atmosphere. Despite cost of living increase they have not inflated their prices.
B.
Loved this cafe. It was great food and value for money. The portions are huge and the milkshakes are out of this world.
H. B.
This is for the Botanic location...
The booths must have been made in Victorian times when people were half the size. I nearly broke my kneecaps on the table. Which is ironic because if you ate here a lot you soon wouldn't fit in the booths at all...
The food is ultimate greasy spoon. Visited here a lot in my student days because it was cheap and you went home stuffed. Like everywhere, it's getting more expensive and the portion sizes are slowly reducing but it's a risky little game for a place that is renowned for its cheap slap up meals and cutlery/glasses that may or may not still have someone else's lipstick on them.
Despite that, the food does taste good. If you're really hungry and just want a big feed it's a good choice. I go here for the milkshakes which are out of this world.
Last time I visited there was a drunk guy leaning through the door singing a song about a menstruating woman. Eventually a member of staff casually herded him away in a manner I felt showed he'd had quite a bit of practice with this particular task.
Anyway, that's Maggie May's... There's pros and cons but if they can manage avoiding price hikes we'll all continue to put up with the cons because the pros are great.
A. K.
The food was awesome specially I love the veg fry, chicken wings and pancakes. The stuffs were so friendly and provided good services. They offer delicious breakfast and others. Just one toilets for huge number of customers was a bit worry. The toilet was not good.
K. E.
A little crowd but good breakfast and service. Only place near Sandy Row open on Sunday morning. Had the pancake 🥞 stack with scrambled eggs and bacon 🥓.
Tasted great. Coffee a bit weak but passable.35£ for three.😋
S. K.
Staff could be more friendly table was wet before I got her to wipe it. I had french toast was nice but is missing something. First coffee was hot second one was only lukewarm. Bloke with moustache was nicest person there.
A. S.
It's been a while since I went to Maggie Mays! Food was good and cheap, and it was very busy as usual. The brioche burger was nice and very satisfying!
B. H.
My nephew is at Queens uni and loves his breakfast here. We loved it too . Fabulous range on the menu. Lovely staff and very well priced . Thank you
R. B.
Amazing milkshakes, definitely worth the visit and would go again if we are back in Belfast on any other occasions.
Decor was also lovely.
J. C.
I flew in to visit a friend of mine in Ireland. As a person from USA, I wanted to try different foods and experiences. My friend strongly suggested this place and after eating, I understood why. It has really good food. Packed with locals. Simply put, if locals are eating there, then you know it won't disappoint, and it didn't. A+
M. W.
Maggies is one off the best places in Belfast for Belfast grub, staff what can ya say not a grumpy one between them 😂 😂 😂,
J. T.
We were sold on this place after seeing pictures of their milkshakes. We had recently had some really bad milkshakes and needed to make up for it.
We all decided to get breakfast for dinner. I got the filled soda with a fried egg and bacon and my husband got the bumper fry. We both got banofee blitz milkshakes to go with it. We both enjoyed our meals. My husband's was a lot of food. We loved the shakes.
They only take cash, so come prepared or stop at the ATM across the street like we did.
We were seated right away and our service was good. I would come here again.
L. P.
Great variety on food. Went for breakfast and as usual great service and good food.
A. A.
Very tasty and well portioned breakfast with quick service. The place is kids friendly and the staff is polite. 4 stars because I would like a cleaner toilet and to mention outside that they only accept cash. However I would recommend it.
M. B.
Very friendly staff and the food is great! They serve full Irish breakfasts and you get a lot of food for a good price!
D. J.
Great spot for a traditional northern Irish breakfast!
You won’t go hungry again it’s the bumper fry.
M. J.
Been coming here for years everytime we visit Belfast. Never disappointed. Great, friendly staff too.
A. S.
Really great food, inexpensive and very good service. A must stop for anyone coming to Belfast and need a pick me up after a night on the town.
I. A.
Nice, cozy place and the food is tasty! Only small disadvantage is that it's cash only, but there is a cash machine opposite the road. Also at one point I thought they forgot our coffees, but they brought everything in the end. So not bad over all.
K. S.
Called in for breakfast (Irish Breakfast & Avacado Sourdough). Very underwhelmed, bland and tasteless like something from a chain hotel buffet, one item missing, when I spoke with the waitress she apologised but never returned to rectify the issue, ordered cold drinks that were room temperature, no offer of ice, black pudding was dry and crispy, no condiments such as salt and pepper on table, had to ask again but was ignored . Staff don’t really seem to take pride. Sadly I don’t think I’ll be returning again.
G. M.
Fantastic food and great service and value and there milk shakes are to die for 5 star all the way
J. M.
Large portions and inexpensive. Lovely fish and chips, friendly staff.
L. M.
The food it's amazing, the breakfasts are delicious and make you feel pretty full after. I'll recommend this place to anyone who'd ask me where to go to eat something 5/5
B. M.
Nice place to drink a great coffee and spend a good time! The atention was Nice. I recommend the garlic and cheese bread !
V. H.
This place is an absolute must go, when you’re in the area and looking for tasty food, friendly service and awesome milk shakes! I highly recommend a baked potato with vegetarian curry sauce and salad. It’s only £6 and a fantastic dinner!
A. T.
A fantastic place for great food - especially the vegan fry. Doesn't quite have the atmosphere or charm as the city centre café but still worth a visit if this one is closer.
P. S.
Breakfast was very good but waiting time was extremely long.
C. W.
Was looking for a good place to try a good ulster fry, and this place's full fry did not disappoint! (If you're really hungry, the bumper fry is the same thing but with beans and chips, plus double the eggs/meat.)
M. C.
Lovely little place. Got a veggie and a vegan fry, both really nice and cheap. Doesn't take card though.
G. T.
Wonderful wholesome Irish food, with Great taste and plenty of choice! Would Highly recommend!....😎🙏☺️🍲🫕🌮
J. E.
Amazing breakfast, just what we needed after a heavy night out in Belfast. Would definitely recommend!
S. C.
A lot of places change in time, Maggie Mays is a prime example of stick to what you're good at. Nothing has changed in it for years, which is no bad thing.
Maggie Mays is a beacon of Belfast with simple normal home cooked type meals.
Even after a number of years since I was last there, the food is still the same excellent, hearty, tasty and comforting eats at a decent price.
The milkshakes are a divine addition to your meal and for me the cheesy garlic soda is a great starter.
This is not healthy eating, it's good eating, just expect to leave full with a smile on your face.
S. H.
Excellent spot for local food. Excellent vegetarian and vegan options.
J. T.
In desperate search for somewhere for dinner on a Saturday night, we came across Maggie Mays. And it was flipping brilliant. A really good menu, with plenty of choice. The food was really well priced too, which was really appreciated! Staff were lovely, and it was a nice little environment for dinner. Would recommend for sure.
L. W.
Every time I take my daughter here we have a great experience. The staff are very down to earth and friendly. Their milkshakes are worth going for alone. The chicken curry is amazing and the chilli bowl...wow! Used to go here when I was out on the town years ago so it's a long lasting establishment for a reason. You won't be disappointed
P. M.
A young man on the train recomended Maggie May's to us. We are thankful for his recomendation. Aside from the good food and friendly staff, it was the only restaurant in Belfst that did not turn us away on a busy weekend. We are very grateful. We did not know that in Ireland you need reservations to eat at restaurants on weekends. We had a very long day of travel and hadn't had anything to eat or drink in aprx 10 hours. We walked around Belfast for almost 2 hours looking for a place to eat. Thank you so much to Maggie May's staff for your service and delicious food!!!!!!
M.
Top breakfast and very well priced. Staff are helpful but not in your face which is nice. Boozy shakes are out of this world good :D
A. J.
Maggie mays is a go to cafe for me and my family. Food is reasonably priced, always great, and staff are lovely! Chips are handcut not skinny frozen ones and the fry at breakfast time is hard to beat!
L. A.
Best lasagne n coleslaw ever. Can't wait to go back.
R. R.
I love love love this Ulster Fryup - banging price for a banging good meal. The potato and soda breads were delicious and I could feel my arteries clog up but heck, this is what I came for.
E. M.
Food amazing as always one of the best restaurants in Belfast. If you have the opportunity to visit here don't miss out. The milkshakes and bumper fry are amazing.
N. H.
Perfect place to grab breakfast after a night on the town. Simple fare served quickly and speedy turnaround of customers. For the evening they offer burgers and similar short order food.
J. R.
Best Irish breakfasts in town! Gusranteed!
A. K.
Tiny (on the verge of cramped) and bustling, with hospitable staff and delicious breakfasts. Decent coffee too. My wife and daughter split a huge Irish breakfast, and I had the breakfast sandwich on fried soda bread with sausage and bacon... All really tasty and hearty. Well worth seeking out.
L. M.
Liked this place a lot. Great food and wide choice. Pretty big portions. Waitress was really helpful and allowed my friend to just choose items he wanted instead of straight of menu. Def recommend
L.
Excellent little place to eat.
Food was amazing, service was excellent.
Wherever you get your bread from I wish I could get it over here.
Will return many times I hope.
B. H.
Lovely cafe, great service 🙂
I. A.
A cosy intimate place with cool decor. Delicious food, friendly staff. Just opposite the botanic garden. Was very busy with a queue in the morning
B. B.
the breakfast and the shakes were amazing. The shake was a bit too sweet but I guess that's subjective.
s. w.
Massive feed for a really good price. Great service, alcoholic milkshakes were indulgent af.
F. N.
Very good food. First time I'd been in year's and still all good. Caramel milkshake beautiful flavour.
D. M.
Fantastic cafe beside Botanic Railway station.Great selection of food at very reasonable prices.Portions are large so of course it's very popular with students. You may have a small wait for a seat but well worth it. Waiting for a seat in my book is a good thing, it reflects how good this little cafe is.Staff are friendly.Well worth a visit!
B. L.
We had breakfast here, I had the Avo, it was so nice and the service was great
L.
I love it, the food the ambience and the staff, are brill, hard to beat for tasty wholesome food, they cater for everyone including vegans and vegetarians. The chilli is great. We go and enjoy the friendly banter with the staff. Great wee joint highly recommend. 😄🍷
T.
A lush breakfast with all the trimmings. Nice environment and enjoyed the experience. 10/10 service, food was fresh and delicious food
P. F.
Reasonably priced cocktails, great for people watching during the day
S. G.
Amazing breakfasts. Definitely recommend
J. C.
We tried the botanic cafe it was nearly as good as the malone one but a bit cramped
G. M.
What a great place to bring someone for their first fry. The experience was second to none. The food excellent, as was the service.
g. k.
10 of us arrived for breakfast this morning. Very accomadting and fit all off us in. Food and shakes where amazing. Vegan menu is a big plus. Highly recommended.
P. L.
I go at this place so often. The full fry is amazing. Wonderful staff and service. Don't forget to have a shake, they're big quantity and really nice. 5 star
T. H.
Lovely place to eat. Great service. Food was good but wrong soup & sandwich arrived on white bread not brown - still tasted great though & generous portions.
R. M.
Nice friendly cafe with a lot of options especially for vegans. Nice location. Will definitely visit again.
M. A.
Worth the wait. Delicious fresh breakfast and a bit of craic. Highly recommended!
p. s.
Wow, what a quaint little place, set in the Queens University quarter. A very extensive breakfast menu for all requirements. Staff were helpful making good suggestions. I can recommend the big fry & eggs anyway with extras.
P. K.
A picture says a thousand words.
V.
Great food and a decent price. Nice atmosphere, high rating justified.
J. Y.
Like the banana and strawberry milkshake
Always have the omelette and full fried
After much “experiments” I prefer the ham and cheese one for omelette
M. T.
Friendly place, local spot. No alternatives to pork for protine. Quick and easy stop.
P. B.
Decent food for the price point. Big portions. Staff friendly and good service. Would have been nice to have salt and pepper on the table, but maybe it was just a one off.
C. F.
Great breakfast had the full fry up and no grease or fat on the plate can highly recommend it well worth the half hour walk
C. B.
Great veggie and vegan options and good service.
N. A.
Lovely food and in a good budget. Friendly staff.
T. C.
Friendly staff,
They Nedd to move the sign from the front of the door qs just to heavy to move and get in especially if your traveling with bags
Place is smaller then other Maggie mays we've visited.
But food is lovely , you always get plenty to eat, drink. My partner got a free cup of coffee , I think the ladies liked cork men 😄 🤣
Coffee great.
Friendly happy staff.
#Cork couple! We be back 😎
K. C.
Went for dessert. Their baker was off apparently, so we only got a milkshake. Was ok, huge portion, I'd recommended sharing one.
L. T. (.
Love this place staff and food are both delightful
J. C.
Really nice pancakes. 30 minute wait for food and a staff member was a tad bit rude. Other than that good food and reasonably priced. BYOB if you like wine or beer
M. B.
Great food and good value ...milkshakes are amazing
J. F.
Great food at great prices...busy busy but staff still really friendly and helful...and BYO great!

WARNING: If you want pancakes, make sure you have a HUGE appetite !!! They are enormous.
Food is very high quality.
Staff are very friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere.
Definitely will return next time in Belfast.
L. B.
During my stay in Belfast I visited Maggie Mays twice, the first time for dinner and the second for brunch. The place is small but you are immediately welcomed with warmth. At the table we were handed the menus, some of which were unfortunately ruined and difficult to read. There are several offers for breakfast, dinner or even some whims! Personally I tried a Hamburger and the Ulster fry breakfast accompanied by a caramel milkshake. The dishes were very delicious, I also had a taste from some of my friend dishes among with the typical stew of the place and the pancakes and I can say that nothing left me dissatisfied. The only thing I do not recommend is to order tap water which is free, but not very good in my opinion. the restaurant itself has a nice atmosphere and the service is fast and punctual. Prices are quite modest considering the good portions and the quality of the dishes. It is an informal place where you can eat with satisfaction without spending a fortune. Surely it will be my destination for my future visits to the city!
A. C.
Breakfast was massive. A large milkshake om top perfect might of been a bit much. However twas a perfect hangover cure
R. C.
The milkshakes were great really nice.
The food was OK.
The staff really rude.
m. f.
A bit expensive. I chose a cheaper breakfast but the bacon was a bit burnt
S. D.
Was in Belfast for a few days with my partner and we called inr
To Maggie May's for lunch and 1 of their famous milkshakes. I had the soup of the day and it was so good. Carrot and chilli soup. I had a strawberry milkshake and it was so so good. My partner ended up ordering one for himself as he liked mine
C. M. M.
The Pancake Stack
Great feed, very filling, very tastey
i. h.
Food and service were excellent would highly recommend
A. M.
Staff were friendly. A good breakfast. Portions very large, couldn't finish mine. Would definately call again.
N. E.
A popular place for the reason that they dish out a good hearty breakfast-style menu all day. Busy!
A. C.
Fantastic hearty food & warm and friendly service. My husband had the Bookmaker’s sandwich which was so full of deliciousness that he ended up having to use a knife and fork for part of it! I had chicken with peppered gravy, meat was perfectly cooked and the gravy was so delicious we were sopping up every last drop with the amazing soda bread and potato wedges. Staff were lovely and extremely efficient, location was clean and cozy, and prices were fantastic. Don’t leave Belfast without making a stop at Maggie Mays!!
C. A.
Quite busy but the staff is very nice and helpful and the food is great! Very filling brunch, exactly what we needed. Their pancakes are really nice with the maple syrup, and they have tons of vegetarian and vegan options! (Including veggie chilli which I will definitely be trying next time!)
J. R.
Really popular and seemingly quite traditional. Food it mostly fried, but they do have some l healthier options. It's quite basic food. I ate most of my food but it's not really my thing. The service was excellent. Popular with the locals and students. They're clearly doing something right and if you're on a budget it's definitely worth a stop.
W. T.
Great price food at reasonable prices.
Tried a Baileys Milkshake. Took me literally all night (had to get it to takeaway) to get half way through it. It was HUGE and they are not shy with the Baileys either!
Busy wee place but one of my favourite places to go if I can get a seat.
Decor in the loo is fabulous!
S. J.
Fantastic service even though its always so busy, excellent choiceamd availability from menu, affordable tasty wee spot.
s. m.
Lovely little cafe, quick service and great food. Cash only though. We called in, on our way to the Botanical Gardens and Ulster Museum for breakfast. Huge selection so you shouldn't go hungry. Highly recommended.
T. K.
It's a cozy place where the food is absolutely superb.
It may be a bit short on sitting area but it's genuinely fabulous place to enjoy a good meal for good price. The staff have always been nothing but professional any time I came over for a bite.
It is a must for anyone that visits Belfast.
I. S.
Had the breakfast burrito, wife had the pancake stack, food and service was excellent, thoroughly recommend!!
a. m.
Good value for money and good portion sizes. Particularly liked that there food wasn't greasy. Definitely be making a visit again ☺
L. H.
The menu is full of nice greasy food, but there is some non greasy food in there too! You should be able to find something to your liking for breakfast or lunch and its generally fairly priced. They have some great milkshakes which is a bonus. Only downsides are it is a bit cramped and usually very busy, and it can sometimes take a while to get seated and have your order taken. Also, don't forget you have to pay up at the till.
L. M.
Good is so good they have a selective menu to choose from and so affordable for they likes of students, and the milkshakes are to die for!! Have to visit place when in Belfast!
S. k. g.
Re-opened again staff very friendly couldn't do enough. Food excellent and very well prepared. Great value. Recommend you try it.
S. W.
Gorgeous breakfast, came out quick and great sized portions! Lovely staff also
C. C.
Good service, environment and food. Good value for money.
D. B. L.
It is not a cheap please. It takes some time to be seated if you go in lunch time, the place is small. Food is good but the portions are small-médium. The environment is nice, I would recommend it just for breakfast or take something quick or for take away. They do not accept credit cards, only cash, so be sure to carry money in your pocket.
C. M.
Fry was delicious, though when we asked for no mushrooms on one, both came with no mushrooms or tomato & one was missing its hashbrown. Milkshakes looked great though I didnt taste them yet.would definitely go again, so may update the review after my next visit
A. B.
Always enjoyed the food here but had an above and beyond experience today with the staff as we waited outside with our dogs for our milkshakes and they came out with a big tub of water for the dogs while we waited. Very kind of them.
G. S.
Woa.. such generous portions for the price. The place was crammed! Very warm inside as it's a bit small, but you can see why it fills up. The food is yummy. It's well priced and the range is fairly varied. Soups to sandwiches, to burgers, to salads. My soup and toastie combo was a fair price and though very salty, still very tasty.
J. O.
This is Northern Ireland comfort food at its best in a friendly, funky atmosphere. My beef stew and brown bread were some of the best I've ever had, but every plate the staff carried out looked terrific. A fun place with good food and good prices. And it's just steps away from the Botanic Rail Station.
J. M.
Great food and fantastic service from Linda.. she was a bubble of joy.. great humour along with a friendly bit of banter and craic.. just what’s needed in these times..
S. H.
Service was great, the staff make you feel really welcome.
Breakfast was beautiful. I had the pancakes with maple syrup and bacon and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Prices are good.
J. A.
Love Maggie Mays. No trip to Belfast is complete without a visit. Lovely staff and atmosphere. Food cooked with fresh local produce.
I. B.
Fast service and good quality food.
Dropped one star as we visited on the basis of numerous web recommendations that it had vegan food, but there's not any specific vegan substitute, or even no-dairy spread, just veggie breakfast minus eggs/sausage. Would have been a fantastic breakfast place if you weren't vegan.
D. B.
Plain, no frills. Busy, competent staff. Service quite prompt. Fries more than ample, at very reasonable price. The hash browns were out of this world ! Will definitely go out of my way to visit it next time I am in the city.
o. t.
good food
great apple pie

Super friendly staff, lovely warm atmosphere. Really pretty interior and the food is amazing. My partner and I went for breakfast. We're both vegetarian and had heard they had an extensive Veggie menu, and it was true. The food was: amazing. She had a nutella milkshake as well, and it was the best I've ever tried. Also free WiFi and cute staff shirts (my milkshake brings all the girls to the yard) and the tip (me baby one more time) jar, it was all so cute.
L. M.
A brilliant place. Great food and milkshakes were awesome
P. F. B.
Great food huge portions. Old fashion home cooking. Staff friendly and amazing.
I. G.
Maggie mays is outstanding value for money. Great friendly staff and great service. I went there nearly everyday I was visiting Belfast with a friend, pancakes omg to die for. And I will return soon,
L. G.
Awesome place - I come every time I'm in Belfast! Plenty of choice on the menu, and still the option to just cherry pick your favourites and build your own breakfast. Genuinely the best milkshake I think I've ever had (Nutella, if you're interested)... Can be a bit of a wait, but as somebody wise said to me yesterday, "Would you want to eat in a place where you didn't have to queue?!" Highly recommended!
P. M.
Great breakfast at a reasonable cost. Friendly staff
C. G.
Certainly good value for money, but do not expect a lot of great flavours either. It's pretty standard food, it does the job.
Loos are for customers only and they don't take cards... so taking a couple of stars off overall.
L. K.
Busy busy place its attracts all ages and nationalities, lots of tourists and students. Sometimes difficult to get a table which is testament to the good food. Great selection on the menu, something to suit everyone. Try their famous milkshakes.
S. S.
This is a love or hate it place. Food is basic but good. And the place always packed. Plus their milkshakes are the best. I would best describe it as truck stop food but in the city. And instead of trucker it's full of country uni students. Not a place for hipsters
W. B.
Very friendly service, nice food & veggies/vegans well catered for which is lovely to see. Only downside is the size of the cafe, it very popular so at busy times you may not get a seat & when we visited neither of the cafes accepted cards, only cash.
J. L.
Really quaint little cafe with traditional booth seating and great decor of old photos of local area. Had the sausage, champ and beans, which is always a pleaser. Heard great things about the breakfast, so going to try that tomorrow at the other branch by the botanic gardens
M. G.
I have visited Maggie Mays a few times when I have visited Belfast with my work.
Always friendly service and great food.
100% recommend.
D. L.
The service can be a little slower than some cafes, but it's well worth the wait. The breakfast fries are fantasic, as are the cheesey beans on toast. The staff are on point and always open to switching up a dish to suit your personal taste. Recommended.
A. C.
No nonsense service probably due to high turnover. We ordered Irish breakfast, pancakes and avo toast. The Pancakes were amazing but the avo toast was terrible with tiny pieces of brown avocado and what looked like jar of Doritos salsa poured over it. It serves me right for ordering “millennial food” on a traditional style cafe. If you visit, stick to the fry-ups and pancakes. You won’t be disappointed. Coffee was ok too.
M. S.
Great fry up amazing food and amazing service
C. C.
Our uber driver recommended this place on our arrival. A bit disappointing, mash potatoes didn't taste great, but the sausages were good. Service was okay, considering the place was very busy. Unfortunately, the establishment only takes cash, which we didn't know ahead of time.
C. S.
Great homely meals, cosy atmosphere, welcoming staff and reasonable prices. Love the breakfasts, would highly recommend a Peppered Chicken dinner though!
D. C.
Unpretentious Cafe that serves tasty, good value food. Has a surprisingly extensive menu which also features a wide variety of Milkshakes.
Their breakfast fry-up is one of the best I've ever had.
A. r.
Awesome milkshake..... 😁Will come again
F. M.
They have the best food at a reasonable price. No wonder why everytime we visit, there are lots of people inside. By the way, don't forget to bring cash with you. They don't accept cards. But but but, food is worth it. Highly recommended.
s. s.
Went into Maggie Mays with a few friends. The cakes was delicious, it’s so fresh and I have never seen a freshly made and the cakes are huge! It’s sooo impressive that I had to buy some for my husband! The waitress named Aga told us that the cakes were all baked by a lady named ‘Jenny Mo’ who bakes and deliver cakes daily. Both the service and cakes were first class!! Highly recommended
B. G.
Just had breakfast with my wife & 4 very young children & friends. Staff were extremely accommodating, friendly & helpful. Great service & food. Pay increases recommended for all staff.
S. N.
Great staff, they were very helpful and friendly. Loads of food for good value. The milkshakes are really good too
G. K.
Fantastic milkshakes! Nearly every flavour imaginable, includes vegan option. For reference though, they only take cash, which is so backward it's painful. Is very popular with local residents, who are mainly students. Has a take-away option and toilet facilities (and an Alice in Wonderland theme in there, which random)
R. M.
I have been going to Maggie May's for years. It's not a fancy cafe but they serve good home cooked food. Probably one of the best (and biggest!) frys in Belfast. Good breakfasts, chips and milkshakes, stew and lasagne. Lots of veggie options. It's a big menu and I'd probably steer clear of anything too unusual but for the most part it's good food and good value for money.
S. G.
Food served well. The place just looks tacky and the hygiene level would discourage me from returning. How long was the cutlery and napkins in the trough on the table, how many had fingered or coughed over them before I sat down. Sorry that just won't do in this day and age.
Game needs to be upped
S.
Lovely breakfast and very busy which is always a good sign. Server forgot to bring sugar for our teas despite asking twice, also forgot our side order of onion rings. We visited around 13:00 on a saturday
L.
Great food and decent prices. The staff are helpful and prompt. A great restaurant for a cheap bite. They offer really good vegan options including an amazing milkshake!
J. H.
Excellent food, reasonably priced, good portion size. The staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. A really pleasant atmosphere. I will certainly be back there again.
C. B.
After reading the good reviews, I brought 13 of us to Maggie Mays for breakfast as we were on a stag do. I didn't realise it was a bit smaller. So only half of us got in and the rest of us went elsewhere. The ones who went said it was really good. Wish it was bigger
J. M.
Great atmosphere gorgeous food ie gr8 frys. Staff very friendly good all round atmosphere very welcoming. Will definitely try out their dinners n yummy looking desserts.👍 100% taste factor.
A. B.
Really enjoyed the food!
M. D.
Good food and quick service. Milk shakes are particularly good. Only negatives are booths can be restricted for those of us on the larger side, and they only take payment by cash. No cards.
L. B.
Ah, this was one of my favorite places in belfast, I can't believe I waited so long to try it. Top notch full breakfast, with really amazing milkshakes. Best hangover cures around, and they have great vegetarian options!
L. A. M. G.
Great food and service love the atmosphere a very cosy place to eat
P. D.
Dishes were delightful as it could be!
But could have been a bit cheaper in rates, if compared with outer nearby food-stops!
M. W.
Nice little local diner, well priced food, plain and simple setting. The full breakfast was good, though it had a little too much bread, but the rest was all really good!
C. R.
I was here on Saturday 13th Oct 2018with my friends who go on about maggie may's all the time. Beautiful little spot in Belfast. Menu is classy for the style of place. The food was amazing and I'll most certainly be back again.
L.
Great breakfast for carboholics. 4 types of bread or potato product. Delicious.
S. D.
Absolutely stunning cafe close to the city centre. Can be busy at lunch time, but that's a testament to the high quality food and the fantastic prices! A MUST visit if you love a good fry :)
L. C.
Absolutely lovely: very nice staff, cheap prices and huge, tasty portions. I love basically everyhing on the menu (which is quite varied).
Just note they only accept cash payments.
D. C.
Went for lunch there along my wife and 3 children and even thou very busy we were seated within 5 mins The service we got from a lovely staff member (Carol ) was excellent ; advice on their food choices; local places to visit etc was so much appreciated Food was excellent ,great value for money and highly recommended to everyone
H. C.
Come here for the shakes. Big size and decent price, lots of flavours. Sadly they don't have all the flavours often. Food is plain, like pub grub. Very studenty place.
C. O.
Service ok...but they not happy face to welcome other races like yellow or black skin colour. This how problem start.
E. C.
Cozy atmosphere, great staff and amazing food! Just sad we didnt get to try their milkshakes. Would definitely go back!
B. F.
Fell in love with this place ages ago, since then they've opened up 2 other locations all just as adorable as the last, good food with something for everyone
S. W.
Best cafe in botanic. Friendly normal food. Not pretentious and has a great buzz inside. Food is wholesome Northern Ireland grub served at decent prices with strong hot tea.
A. V.
Fantastic customer service. So friendly! Food is great too
S. S.
Good food, nice staff
R. A.
Friendly staff and great range of breakfast items. I went with the pancakes (make sure to ask for them fried) and they were generous with the maple syrup.
G. M.
Great for quick visit and reasonable prices. Hard Wooden seats. Staff friendly and helpful. Good choice on menu. Good breakfast items. Generous portions.
D. K.
Great for a meal with friends. Cheap, cheerful, cosy, with big portions and perfect hangover food. Usually busy, which is a good sign (if a little disappointing if there's no tables when you go).
H. K.
Nice little Cafe. We had a delicious Full Fry . I like Full Irish better , but it was Good and Not too Expensive. The Staff was friendly . Great Atmosphere
K. P.
Great 'home made style' food. Fantastic milkshakes. Decent portions. Prices are reasonable. However it can be a little cramped at times
S. C.
Nice food with a great variety especially for vegans or vegetarians. Always friendly staff.
C. G.
Great food great staff. Seats feels like they've been designed by Ryanair very cramped.
M. G.
Great cafe food and an incredibly decadent selection of milkshakes, at very reasonable prices. Popular with the students. Service is... Interesting, to say the least. :)
N. M.
I have been there a few times: dinner, breakfast, coffee, milkshakes... It has always been good quality and inexpensive. I would recommend milkshakes and fries.
The only drawback is that they do not accept cards so do not forget to bring cash with you.
Z. P.
Love Maggie May's! Great food. Great staff. If you're visiting Belfast, you have to go here! It's a Belfast must-eat!
L.
Huge portions and value for money
T. A.
Opens at 8am weekdays. Serves full irish/english breakfast with bacon, eggs, sausage, mushroom etc. Or bagels, pancakes, omelets. Wifi works. Service was fast, but then there were only 2 tables taken.
D.
I lived on Botanic for a year about 2 years ago and never darkened the door of this place. Just always missed it. How wrong I was. Pretty much the best meal on botanic avenue and cheap too. I may live in Newtownabbey now but I'll be here on the regular I hope.
A. N.
This place has been going for at least 25 years and has been consistent on high quality food and delightful milkshakes. Go..enjoy yourself, but you will be stuffed after so make no ppans for after
W. A.
Nice food with a reasonable price!
A.
Fantastic little gem we came across,, staff very friendly and helpful,, the choice on the menue awsome and who ever the chef is is 5 star, food to die for ,will be reguler vistors now to work our way through the menue lol !!
P.
Decent food at a good price. Suited my needs perfectly. Very pleasant service from everyone.
T. B.
Staff are great. We popped in for a bit of breakfast. Hard to beat a local fry
P. K.
its ok! Milk Shake was great, not sure about the food, does every breakfast place in Belfast use the same sausages? Seriously someone needs to open a decent breakfast joint. This place is a nice setting but food was average,. I am from London though, there is nothing like a Dishoom Breakfast, or a brekie from the breakout cafe on Callidonian Road. - if your coming to London look them up!
G. M.
Great breakfast and service
T. C.
Food is delicious and very cheap! Place was packed and yet customer service didnt suffer. The only issue I would say is the size. The tables are very small, the whole place seems like theyve tried to cram as many tables into a small area as possible.
D. H.
Fantastic food-service an excellent value
C. H.
Always try and give this place another chance, but it sadly seems to miss the mark each time. The fry is decent, but other than that, I can't say I'd recommend anything else.
Also, it's cash only, which I think in 2018 is pretty unacceptable.
J. D.
Great choice of food...amazing value...staff are so helpful& friendly. Have food allergies& staff were so accomadating. Would highly recommend..Will be back on next visit to Belfast
A. T.
Like the ebb and flows of life, Maggie Mays represents the beating heart of the South Belfast student scene. Their food, though not spectacular or original by any means, is food for the soul; food like your grandmother might make. Their dated style only adds to the charm of this Belfast staple. Love it or Loath is Maggie Mays is the name when it comes to curing that hangover or when the mood take you to rip free of the shackles of modern healthy living for a taste of the that delicious, hydrogenated fatty nectar - representing everything so right and so wrong with the world as we know it...
C. W.
A small place with amazing food. Friendly service, quick and delicious.
D. F.
My son Callum was given the choice of anywhere on botanic avenue to eat for his 10th birthday meal and chose Maggie Mays.. He couldn't have chosen better, real cosy, homely feel about this place and from sec we arrived we were greated by very friendly attentive staff. Our meal which was for 6 of us was chosen from an extensive, well divised menu and each one of us left with our bellies full and charged ever so fairly for doing so. We will definitely be back and hopefully sooner than later..
A. J.
Friendly staff and great food at decent prices!
B. E.
Great food Great value Great Menu Great Staff
Always my first choice when in Belfast
The Breakfasts are the best in town!
Great Veggie Breakfast for Non Meat Eaters like me ☺
E. F.
Great vegan options like frys, avo toast, nachos, milkshakes, and friendly staff.
L. C.
This is a Belfast institution famous for its milkshakes and breakfast fryups. They also serve burgers at a reasonable price. The breakfast is not too greasy as well.
J. D.
Nice food and friendly staff. I had a bacon and egg soda, with a coke. £6.30 altogether, seems like a lot for what it was. This restaurant is cash only.
L. M.
As good now as ever!
E. M.
Old fashioned sit in chippie/cafe. Cosy booths, although not comfortable for larger customers! Strange, as all portions served are very generous 🤣
S. D.
Had dinner here and it was good. We got the Irish stew and fish and chips. We ended our meal with some milkshakes. FYI they only take cash.
J. S.
Brilliant breakfasts, great value!
R. S.
Never had a bad meal and ive been quite a few times.. friendly staff and prices are super low for the amount of food you get. Steak baguette with pepper sauce comes highly recommended. ?
C. M.
Really friendly welcoming staff, combined with comfy cosy atmosphere and belly busting portions of delicious hot food! A wee gem of a cafe, highly recommend.
J. P.
Greatest spot for a hangover, but I have come here for dinner before and the food is always tasty with good sized portions. Staff are always friendly! =)
d. d.
Stumbled on this place by accident and i was really suprised. Food was beautiful and very cheap. Staff are friendly and helpfull. I definitely will call in again. 5 stars 👍
M. F.
The soup was homemade. Prices are decent. Staff not really chatty. Wouldn't go back in a hurry. Seats not very spacious or comfortable.
G.
Very friendly staff and great food at a decent price, what more can you ask? The fry's are great and I highly recommend the custom milkshakes for sunny days.
T. B.

Lovely cafe, delicious veggie fry! Nice staff.

C. O.
Such good food, always hits the spot, and the milkshakes are the best I've had ❤️
r.
Would recommend
Vegan breakfast , wonderful and a good helping, coffee good,
Sometimes vegan plates are lacking decent helpings in cafes and restaurants, makes me think that folk think Veges and Vegans eat very little, but Maggie's Mays know different.
D. C.
I came here for a quick dinner and sat outside. The food was good. They only would accept cash payment, which was very annoying, but there was an ATM right across the street, at least.
R. C.
Perfect place for a hangover breakfast.
P. M.
This is a wonderful no frills, fab food cafe . Great grub at a great price. I love their all day breakfasts.
C. M.
Great food at an even greater price - popular with students. The milkshakes steal the show here and are a must try for any foodie!

Nice interior. Warm. Good fry. I'd avoid the milkshakes...they could have done with being a bit thicker.
D. K.
Service was quick and efficient but the panini was a bit too burnt. Still enjoyed it and will be back in the future
