Reviews of The Dock Café
T. M.
I can recommend without reservation, this cafe I supposeI would describe a community based cafe. Served good strong coffee and cake and asked for a contribution for payment. A refreshing change. I applaud this community spirited establishment. Well done 👏 great helpful friendly staff.
M.
Its was my 1st time here I was my son he had a hot chocolate and I had a tea and both had a tray bake each. It was really nice and a real lovely atmosphere also staff were very friendly before leaving we went into the wee prayer garden bit. I will definitely be back again.
S. F.
Come in and you can get coffee some Pastries tea and some other stuff like water and sirup water. The system is donation based and you pay what you want. Staff are super friendly.. quite a unique experience
D. M.
Love this place! The staff are superb & so friendly. They have comfy seating throughout & serve carmel squares, scones, brownies & loads more. They also have cold & hot drinks which aren't the best but there's a subway & coffee shop close by which you can usualy bring in if they don't supply it. There's lots of window seating & also outdoor benches which all have great views. The walls are covered in local artwork & photographs which personally makes it look quite cluttered & cheap but it's one of the ways they make money as they rely solely on donations depending on what customers feel their experience is worth. Cleverly there's PayPal codes on the tables & donation boxes scattered throughout saving you the awkwardness feeling like your being judged.

Stumbled across the Dock Cafe, and thought we'd pop in for a hot chocolate to warm us up. We were greeted at the door, by a very friendly volunteer explaining about the cafe and that it was all donation based. Which we weren't expecting at all... but every volunteer was so cheerful and very helpful. Such a great place to chill and watch the world go by. Keep doing what you're doing guys!
M. G.
Amazing place! Really tasty coffee and pastry. The people working there are delightful, super friendly. It's a community cafe, meaning the food and drinks are not priced, so they work based on donations. Would highly recommend it.
F. S.
I love it!!!! It’s my first time here… what a great idea! Staff are lovely and the food is delicious 10/10 !!!
V. M.
Love this place. Its a hidden gem in belfast. A donations based cafe, just pay what you think you should. Amazing scones. Excellent coffee and friendly volunteers.
Great for a quick pit stop and pick me up on your way to or from Titanic belfast.
T. M.
A lovely community cafe. We stumbled upon it while exploring the Titanic Quarter and it was a really lovely experience. The donation box is a lovely idea to help support the community.
A. E.
What a brilliant concept to pay what you choose, we had lovely cakes and tea and coffee and enjoyed the surroundings ahead of a visit to the Titanic.
B.
This place is great and worth a visit if you’re in the titanic quarter. It’s a non profit community cafe. The drinks and cakes are free and there’s a wide selection. You’re welcome to bring in your own food and relax. It’s all donation based. There’s a great atmosphere and the staff are lovely.
l.
Found by chance but would definitely go back. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cakes - and friendly, welcoming staff. With a twist - you make a donation if your happy. Can also bring in your own food. What’s not to like ??
S. Y.
Loved this place, must visit in Belfast.
K. N. (.
lovely café, works on the honour system. you pay what you feel like, and get lovingly served tea/coffee, snacks and even soup around noon! they have free wifi, lots of books, a few games and plenty of super comfy seating (including some outdoors!). kitschy decor completes this cafe. a real gem by the waterfront!
D. K.
Great place, and space, for a cup of tea and a chat, with nice tray bakes too and a unique way of paying for them. Would be nice if the hours were longer but it's understandable given the location and footfall.
S. C.
Lovely community cafe. Friendly atmosphere. Eclectic mix of furniture, comfy sofas and armchairs which are all donated. Wide variety of teas, coffee and juice and whatever food available on the day, we had tray bakes and tea. Honesty box to pay and you just pay what you think it's worth. Little prayer garden where you can pin your prayer requests on a tree. Strongly recommend a visit. If nothing you fancy to eat, you can go out and buy something from nearby shop and bring it in! Workers are all volunteers. Loved it!
C. F.
Lovely welcoming place. 'How it works' was explained and a rocky road with a cuppa was enjoyed. Nice relaxed atmosphere and love how the honesty box is enough to keep this place open.
S.
Totally awesome. Go there and try it. The volunteers are very lovely, the coffee is quite good, the scones are excellent and all is based on the honesty of people. You pay what you want and can.
A. Y.
Amazingly welcoming café with a great ethos and friendly volunteers. The space is huge, but cosy. The tea and coffee is delicious and it's so sweet that they only welcome donations ❤ I didn't have the food, but the soup looked good and the treats were so tempting! I just loved exploring the space and looking at the view - such a gem!!
R. M.
Good place to relax if you're a bit early for your Titanic Spot, very friendly, bring your own food, donate what you feel for drinks and cake.
W. O.
Incredible little place that I ran into by chance. A non-profit cafe that you should definitely visit if you’re in the Titanic Quarter. Wide variety of cakes and tea and a very relaxed, welcoming atmosphere. You can also bring in your own food from any of the nearby shops. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is that if you’re not a fan of cake or tea, then you may want to check out other spots for a bite to eat! 😊
M. J.
We came in here for a cup of tea and a scone and loved it. There is a real community feel here. Had a nice long chat with a staff member and rested our legs after the titanic exhibit. This place is better than most chains in town in my opinion. A comfy couch and a quirky mug are just what you need.
D. P.
Great cafe with a pay what you want policy. Lovely little cakes and range of tea and coffee
N. M.
Charity cafe with a relaxing atmosphere in a perfect location.
S. Y.
It’s a cute idea (free food and coffee, paying what you want in the honest box) and a cosy place on the dock to hang out. Wish they had sandwiches and heartier food though!
N. B.
Fantastic place, welcoming staff, friendly atmosphere, great food and drinks. Simply brilliant!
D. C.
Very different experience you don't pay for anything food or drink you leave a donation. Very friendly staff (please leave a donation as we could do with a lot more places and people like this)
H. C.
A fantastic find! We stopped here after visiting the Titanic Experience and absolutely loved it. We were welcomed on entering, and explained about it being a donations based cafe, and that you could bring your own savoury food if you wanted. Lots of comfy sofas and a prayer garden there. Staff were so lovely and even gave us some tips on a fish and chip shop to visit in Ballycastle (Morton’s) which we duly visited and was great! I ordered a surprise tea, and we also had some sweet treats. You can use PayPal as well as cash to make a donation which is really helpful. I wish we had more places locally like this.
C. W.
The dock cafe is a nice place to relax if you're out. However, you cannot buy anything here instead you give donations and all they really have is coffee and tea, if you want something to eat you will have to go to one of the nearby shops though you are allowed bring outside food into this place.
To summarise I would give this place 3 out of 5 Stars because I like being able to dine in the places I go.
C. M.
This place has a uniqueness like no other coffee house. A calmness, a quirky edge and the softest sofas ever! My family all love coming for a cuppa and the love behind how the honesty cafe operates makes it a very special place to be. The prayer garden is worth a visit. Give yourself a couple of hours to enjoy your visit.
D. K.
It's an honesty cafe, you pay what you want/can afford. They only had excellent tray bakes when we visited.
A handy place for a rest after being at the Titanic museum.
S.
Quite a decent selection of teas and cakes. The cosy environment and the strong wifi connection makes it a good place to work or study. The staff were friendly. The food was great as well.
D. C.
An honesty cafe with great friendly service great cakes and a relaxed atmosphere. Fab memorabilia throughout.
C. R. N.
Food is made and served by volunteers. Pay is by donation only. What a great concept worth the visit very close to titanic museum.
C. H.
very friendly and the food is amazing. It is also near the hms domatic
N. W.
Amazing little find, friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. All volunteers and no actual prices - you make a donation, but theres no pressure to do so. I did as it makes the cafe available to all, they also hand bake some of the cakes and it overlooks a view of the harbour.
C. B.
I just popped in here for a break but ended up loving the place. Pay What You Can café goods, any currency accepted, change given in Pounds.
P.
Nice workers, lovely local cafe, local artwork, prayer garden, world map, nice selection of tea including Belfast's own brew (tea, not welfare, benefits). Well worth a visit, nice scenery, close to a lot of tourist attractions be it a but further out from the city. But there is local buses. Please visit if you can, they will appreciate you here. 🙏 , , , , ,

One of the best places in Belfast! Great coffe and amazing cakes!
G. K.
Lack of a bank card reader is just being deliberately silly in this day and age. Food and refreshments were nice. Having to set up an app that took 10 minutes so as I could pay, while my coffee got colder and colder was not amusing. However, I would still come back again.
T. L.
Beautiful community-ran café in the Titanic Quarter, with effervescently friendly volunteers. Wish there were more spaces + cafés like this in other places around the world.
P. M.
Great spot, easily the best, friendliest place for a cup of coffee in this part of the town.
G. D.
What a lovely relaxing cuppa myself and my partner had in the Dock Cafe. Made all the better because of the fabulous staff and all the old photos of Harland & Wolf in all it's glory. It's a must stop for a☕🍰.
Thank you very much..
R. D.
I recommend it 100%. friendly service and for charity. great jackdaw.
L. P.
Only say four because nothing is perfect, but prayer garden can work for all people and religions. Soup really nice, small variety of food, but all really good. Kind and varied staff members.
Recomend. Really nice to see pay what you think is right
L.
Comfortable welcoming, flexible, kind carkng friendly staff. You donate for what you consume as no charges are applied, so this Christian run establishment is a welcome much needed addition to the titanic marina area. Highly recommended, large selection of teas, coffees and tray bakes, biscuits available, I'm sure at times soup and sandwiches have been available and may be in the future. You may also bring your own food if desired. Lovely intimate spaces throughout, A mismatch of donated furniture and crockery but this adds to its humble charm and the warm welcome that Belfast is renounced for. ❤️
J. 3.
I hadn't been in for a load of years popped in other day was able to bring the pooch as its dog friendly I wish I'd been down earlier I'd a lovely half hour sitting in a lovely peaceful ambiance having a coffee and a nice bun, this place just a lovely peaceful place to be.
K. W.
Brilliant idea. You pay for how much you think it's worth. Everything is donated.
M. I.
Love this place...It's bohemian, very modern and creative. The walls and shelves are adorned with arts, adventure and history. An honesty box and some notices explaining the ethos of the place and replace the need for tills and prices.
Volunteers are friendly, but give you space and are there to serve.
We got tea, scones and cakes (sadly we missed the soup/meal of the day) and was all very good. And if you want you can bring in your own food and drink that's fine to, just find a space and get comfy.
There's also a spiritual rest place or prayer space and free wifi.
The toilet is very well clean, well maintained and kept stocked.
All in All...We wanted to stay longer. It was refreshing- thank you.
a. m.
Lovely place, kind of a social enterprise offering simple drinks and snacks with honesty box payment. The interior is charming and the deck has lovely views over the marina. It's so refreshing to see a space like this occupied by a not-for-profit. Go!
V. l.
Great little find, warm welcoming and friendly staff. Scones you have to try they are delicious 😋 Will definitely be back soon.
f. p.
How could you not give 5 stars?Stylish cafe with friendly staff.U pay whatever you want based on the service you felt.
J. (.
The friendliest cafe in the land. Delightful drinks, delicious cakes, Welcoming volunteers. And the best bit about it, it's all for charity.
K. A.
Very interesting & very different cafe! No prices or cash registers - just an honesty box where you leave what you think your order is worth! Lovely scone & reasonable coffee served very courageously by volunteers. Lovely atmosphere. Well worth a visit!
L. S.
Cozy place for a tea/coffee pause near the Titanic quarter. Kept by donations. Very friendly service, great coffee, delicious homemade scones and cake. Lovely!
J.
This was our first visit I think its a fantastic! Idea and I hope it only cintinues to blossom. You can have food and beverages and pay what ever you like. We need more places like this its unique and whoever came up with the idea is brilliant. I think people will give more because they chose to, not because its demanded. You can read books bring in your own food and chill with friends. Fantastic work guys, well done 😀
K. K.
Went here on our last morning before leaving Belfast. Great community setup with lots of different areas to sit and enjoy. Our kids loved the pinboard map, where you can pin the location you come from. Its also really cool how you can bring in your own food and I believe it's pet friendly too.
R. M.
The staff here are helpful and hospitable. It is a charity organisation so you pay what you think is fair for your coffee/tea and bun. The seating arrangement is haphazard. Any time I've been the best seats have been taken by students conversing, none of which have a drink or treat and stay longer than their welcome without being shooed.
A. C.
Great place and very unique concept. You donate to their Honesty Box and support their charity. Great coffee, tea and yummy baking goods. The volunteers who run the place are great. Finally, one of the few Dog Friendly places around.
M. G.
Love the idea of the honesty cafe. You really don't have to pay only if you want and as much as you can. Coffee and tea is nice quality. The place is very creatively done, there is a wee prayer garden for you to leave your prayers and the staff will pray about it.
B. g.
The best place to stop and pause in the Titanic Quarter.
This Honesty Cafe, Which opened in 2012 is a credit to Belfast
S.
My fave place to hang out at weekends and holidays. Great friendly and international atmosphere. Everything I love about the Titanic quarter. People from all over visit and the honesty cafe system is great. Bring your own food and drink or buy soup, scones, tray bakes and tea/coffee. Love it!
Y. H.
Very Friendly place with good tea, coffee and scones. Staffs are lovely. A well worthy cause for donation. Def recommend to visit and have an apple and mint tea with a cherry scone.
E. A.
It is a very nice place you can bring food from restaurants around inside to eat and you pay what you can afford Plus they have very kind staff and lovely looking cakes it is very close to the Titanic museum and SS nomatic I recommend going there
E.
Amazing little cafe, lovely tea, coffee and cake. They even let you buy sandwiches from next door and take into the cafe.
Beautiful relaxing cafe ideal for families and children.
Very kind staff and lots of interesting things to see inside the cafe inc artwork and sculptures very relaxing space.
R. B.
This is an amazing idea! Simple, light lunches on offer (scones, soup and roll, cakes) which you chose, you are given a receipt with you then put in the honesty box along with whatever you feel like paying. Lots going on to look at, varied comfortable seating. You can take in your own food too and lots of shops aroudn where you can purchase and then just sit in the space.
N. M. (. M. B.
I was wanting somewhere to relax and eat my packed lunch. The Dock was nearby so I called in. The volunteer staff are friendly, the coffee is nice, with a choice of mild or strong and they have a great range of tray bakes. No pressure to buy, no need to rush. There is an honesty box to drop some cash into before you leave.
B. G.
Wonderful cafe in the Titanic Quarter. First used it for the Giro and delighted to see it on a return visit 5 yrs later
d. k.
Lovely little honesty café with really nice tray bakes, I got a brownie and it was 10/10. It's also really good for just sitting chilling if you're waiting for a concert at the SSE nearby. They do also have a prayer garden and they supply some baord games, puzzles or books if you are bored.
M. G.
Free coffee and pastry, only pay if you wish to donate
Awesome coffee tho
S. A.
Amazing place to just sit and relax and have a good time. The place runs purely on donations but has maintained very good quality of whatever food they serve. The cakes are lovely and with wee coffee and a book, you can spend many an afternoons here.
S. K.
This is a lovely place to have a relaxing tea or coffee with a bun whilst out exploring the titanic quarter. It is run by volunteers and payment is by honesty box donation. The baked goods i believe are from the french village so are very good. The atmosphere is so relaxed and friendly.
P. C.
Great pay what you want cafe offering tea, coffee, juice; cakes, biscuits, gluten free options, soup and rolls. Just don’t forget to make a donation!
Great spot to stop for the toilet and to rest your feet on the way to the Titanic museum too!
S. A.
The best place in the UK! Perhaps, its all my best memories pent up and coincidentally coming across this place bit isn't the concept grand? Pay what you like, the food and drink is fantastic; including the staff. Guys we need more honesty, come to the dock, you'll love it. :)
A. C.
Brilliant cafe with a difference - no set charge for tea/coffee or food just an honesty box for you to put in a donation. Manned by super staff who volunteer their time to serve the public. Comfy and relaxing. 10 out of 10!
S. C.
Love it here. All volunteers are so friendly and helpful. The coffee is also good.
B. R.
Great non profit cafe serving tasty soup, tea, coffee and treats. People wanting to donate money can do so by using their honesty box. Relaxing place to be during lunch break, nice views of North Belfast and the marina.
A. T.
It is a very cool place ! You can go in for a snack and coffee or just bring your own ! You pay what you want/can as donation which is an amazing concept ! The perfect place for family and friends :). And the staff is super nice too! Beautiful discovery (and nice cakes)
g. f.
Very quirky place indoor and out door seating, all the furniture I think is donated but that adds to the character. Food and buns are on a voluntary donation basis but this is a great asset to have close to the northern Ireland science park, ps pretty sure they allow pets!
M. C.
An interesting idea where you can use the space for free, drink coffee or tea and have some snacks including soup. You pay what you want and the money is used to support the place. Friendly volunteers serve you and the place has some really nice seating couches.
M. T.
As the kids say, "the free cafe!" The atmosphere is fantastic, big windows, couches, books...it's quite homey. . Always interesting people to gander at and the soup is a nice, tidy meal.
A. N.
Really lovely idea an honesty cafe in a very tourist area. They have a limited range of food but it all looked lovely and the soup and bread tasted delicious. You pay what you feel your meal was worth and csn bring in food and just bide a while there. I'd highly recommend it
J. P.
Great to bring your lunch and relax. Small selection of drinks and soup and pay what you want for the service. Hard to beat for a quick bite with a huge spar right next door which you are free to bring food across from or your own lunch
C. O.
Lovely little cafe located between the SSE Arena and the Titanic Museum. Staff are accommodating and easy to talk to, food is great and all locally sourced. Best of all, it operates a 'honesty box' policy, meaning there's no set prices and you can choose how much you would like to pay (both cash and PayPal are accepted)!
M. J.
Stumbled in to this gem after the trek from city to Titanic.
Perfect pit stop before the tour.
Hadn't read reviews but what a great concept. Donate generously people... help this concept spread.
Mishmash of furniture give a Friends monicas apartment feel.
Just a great little place.
D. C.
Loved the soup , coffee and a bun, very friendly and helpful staff. The honesty box is a great idea, really unusual cafe with quirky decor. Will definitely be back.
L. A.
This is a very special place: you get coffee, biscuits or whatever else they hafe - and pay whaterer you think is a fair price. A nice view on the docks area. If you are spiritually open, you may wish to visit their Prayer Garden.
G. M. S.
Visited the tall ships exhibition this weekend and dropped into this café for a second time. Two visitors sat down beside me and said "Is this place for real?"
Well it is but once again you have to be honest and put money in the box.
Is it for real? Yes and it seems to be going strong as it is a year since I was there.
Overall people are honest when business is honest. Lets hope its operating this time next year.
C. C.
A great location dedicated to community and service. The Dock has something for locals and tourists alike: including art installations, information about the history of the Titanic quarter, and a prayer garden. The honesty box is a great model that seems to bring out the best in people. One of my favourite locations in Belfast overall.
F. H.
Great place to watch the world go by! All payments to a great cause and the volunteers working here are so friendly and informative about the variety of great food and drink they have to offer! Really enjoyed passing the time here and would definitely recommend to others!
C. M.
Been coming here irregularly for last five years. Always welcoming staff, relaxing atmosphere. Great coffee and fantastic place to wind down and enjoy a scone or traybake. Best coffee shop in NI.
N. J.
We have been trip to Titanic and The Dock Cafe is always fabulous! You will love it, very comfortable and friendly. We would definitely recommend to everyone. From Neil and Susan. NYC 2018
T.
Very friendly atmosphere, and lovely food! For main meals (eg sandwiches, fries etc) you must go to the Spar next door, however Dock is more than happy to provide seating along with snacks and the best coffee I've had in Belfast (no exaggeration!)
I. d.
An honesty cafe where you choose what you pay staffed by volunteers who are fantastic. We call here every time we are in the area
D. C.
Pay what you like. Didn’t think it would be anything great and somewhat surprised that it has done well but I see now why.
Volunteers work here and the food and atmosphere is great. Well worth it. I would highly recommend.
G. H.
A great little spot for a brew and a bun. Rather uniquely they operate an 'honesty box' method of payment
The coffee's great, the buns are beaut and the view and ambience is great.
M. P.
Just did the Titanic experience and found this hidden gem. Staff were very warm and welcoming and the food was great as was the tea. The idea of the honesty box is brill. Lets hope it goes on snd on.
B. H.
This is actually an art gallery in disguise. Full of photographs and sculptures. Managed by volunteers. A great place to have coffee or tea. You can also bring your own food. There's no pricelist, you donate into an "honesty" box.
D. C.
Went today for lunch veg soup and chicken soup ! Both very nice with bread roll , cup of loose leaf tea - fab ! Nice atmosphere and pay what you think /honesty box , paid £10, would recommend if need a pit stop near titanic experience ! 👍😀
E. M. A. (.
I love this place: It's a honesty cafè, meaning you pay what you feel to. Very nice for having a tea chatting with friends or working away. Free wifi. Good selection of teas and try the buns!
P. C.
Never come across a cafe like this one before, what an amazing place. Really friendly staff extremely tasty food and pay what you think you should. Quite amazing.
a. M.
Gorgeous cafe, wonderfully decorated, celebrating the titanic and also local artists. Friendly staff, delicious treats. Overall;a great concept. Definitely worth popping in while in belfast.
J. A.
Whilst i was studying at the Belfast Met, I spent most of my weekdays here with friends drinking coffee, having a few traybakes (the carrot cake is out of this world!) and living off the soup provided (primarily Lentil and Bacon), I would still stop by now and again to relive the nostalgia. perfect place to go for a cuppa and traybakes
E. M.
This place is my favourite spot in Belfast. A breathtaking scenery.
I. B.
What a wonderful little cafe. Cash only (but you can donate via text message). Pay what you feel it’s worth. But be generous! Today’s dosh buys tomorrow’s nosh!
J. M.
What a gem of a cafe right in the heart of Titanic area. They work on an honesty box system. Pick from tray bakes, scones, soups, teas and coffee etc. Great relaxed atmosphere.
A. V.
Beautiful café, great atmosphere, no set prices (pay as much as you think it's worth or pay another time). Very friendly volunteering staff
I.
What a gem of a place at the Titanic Quarter and such friendly people and staff! Why don't all café places take a leave out of The Dock's book? Gentle, easy going atmosphere. 5 stars.
J. N.
We had an amazing time. Strong presence in the room.
M. P.
Excellent cafe with relaxed atmosphere and nice people. Nice coffee and cakes and bring your own lunch. Visit here if you're in the Titanic quarter, you won't be disappointed
D. M.
You get what you pay for. An incredible cafe with a lovely atmosphere.

First time i have heard of the honesty box (you pay any amount you think the food and service you get is worth). it was a very clever idea!! Great place. Highly recommend. And dont forget to leave a donation and dont be cheap.
A. G.
Extraordinary idea! The people are really great, openminded, the coffee is very tasty, and the cakes - like those made by my mom <3
S.

Lovely coffee and various teas...tasty scones and traybakes, as well as soup, baps and wheaten bread...very comfy chairs and seating outside with waterbowls for thirsty pups.
A. L.
Excellent cafe. Beautiful location, extremely amicable staff, accommodating setting. Highly recommend to anyone in the area.
T. C. W.
Great cafe, the only cafe where you pay what you believe it is worth, for soup and bread roll, or tray bakes, has a wide variety of tea's and two types of coffee, staff extremely friendly
I. K.
What a wonderful place filled by wonderful people. Thumbs up to Albert who was so kind with us as Algerian visitors which was our 1st time in Belfast and hopefully not the last 😉

Lovely, unique atmosphere, really friendly staff, coffee is lush wish many choices of teas and traybakes, dog friendly too!
M. J.
Lovely comfy decor, friendly VOLUNTEER staff, and you pay as much or as little as you want, a welcome friendly place in an otherwise cold and commercial area, staff from nearby shops and venues could take a very valuable lesson in customer service from the wonderful people who run The Dock!!
C. M.
Great atmosphere, loved the soup, and the teas are all loose-leaf and from an amazing company. Also a gorgeous view from the panoramic windows.
n. p.
Fantastic wee spot for a quick cup of delicious coffee and nice bite to eat for when you are out and about! Also the view is phenomenal.
J. T.

(Translated) A warm place to visit after visiting the Titanic Museum. There are coffee-tea and small snack options available, but they accept donations instead of selling them directly. They contribute to the development of the region with the income obtained. It is also allowed to bring food from outside.
If you want to relax and help out, you can drop by Belfast whenever you're in town.

(Translated) My favorite place in Belfast. The most incredible carrot cake I've ever tasted, plus you have an important variety of other cakes. You can take your food, you can be there studying, resting... And you do the bill, paying with your honesty in an anonymous box. That makes you feel more responsible and want to continue collaborating.

Eso hace que te sientas más responsable y quieras seguir colaborando.
