Absolutely loved this place. My 2 friends and I travelled from London and we really wanted to try the famous fried Mars bar, we also wanted fish and chips so we asked our Uber driver where the best place to go and he recommended this place. We was served by Sal who was very welcoming and gave us a lil history about his store. The fish and chips was absolutely lovely!!!... But the fried Mars bar and Snickers was the highlight for me. I really wasn't expecting it to taste so nice!!! Patiently waiting for a franchise in London! Thanks again!

Alrighty. I've popped into this wee slice of heaven a fair few times now and the quality of the chips are on point, perfection or close to it. Crisp & tasty and always fresh. The quality of both the battered items and the pizzas are mouth water inducing delights. Though I would love to see chips become a more affordable treat, I can do nothing other than highly recommend this place if you enjoy a great quality chippy.

Delicious pizza, prepared by friendly staff with great conversation. Prices are very fair too. One of the best chip shops in the city, or maybe even one of the best in Scotland. Note - they serve a deep fried mars bar, if you've always wanted to try one, this is a great place to do it. I heard that they will deep fry pretty much anything! It's in a great location in the centre of the city - a perfect place to take friends who are visiting Edinburgh if you want to try some traditional chippy food! (p.s. don't visit too often, otherwise you'll become very fat!)

A great takeaway! Perfectly located on Broughton Street, it's an ideal go-to after a night out or just for a good pizza. Good quality food all round. There's a couple of seats inside too which is always handy if you're waiting for your order or need to finish up before your taxi arrives!

I'd missed lunch and dinner and returning to my car famished at 11pm discovered I was parked opposite this place. I nearly hunted out somewhere with a higher rating but was too hungry and it was too late. Nice welcome, fish ready to go. The batter was chewy, which is unusual but the fish and the chips were fine and better than I was expecting. It's friendly, late-night fast food and it does that job well. It was expensive though - £7.50 for a fish supper is more than I'm used to.

Just had the most amazing wonderful experience at your eatery, the staff didn’t have the order I had originally wanted prepared so they discounted my food, on top of that they checked up on whether I wanted more chips and metal cutlery. Unbelievable level of quality customer service and genuinely the best tasting chippy in edinburgh. Thank you so much! Truly truly exceptional. Kinda pricey but the food is good and the service is pretty fast. Not really any cheaper options in the area for a chip shop as all them seem about the same price but I would say Cafe Piccante has the best tasting food. I would recommend it to any body looking for food in the area. I personal visit often when I don’t want to cook.

Went here for a deep fried Mars bar like a tourist should and I wasn't disappointed, friendly staff, food was made fast and tasted excellent. Is a bit on the pricey side £3.50 for a deep fried Mars bar and £8.40 for fish and chips but it was good food and a massive fish.

Really good food service impeccable would recommend

My favourite Edinburgh chippy and the only one that serves decent gravy (it is so hard to find a chippy in Scotland that serves gravy it drives me nuts!). The chips, cheese, and gravy is amazing, one of the only places in Edinburgh that feeds my poutine cravings. The staff are always friendly and the prices are reasonable in comparison to the portion sizes. The chips are well cooked without being soggy. Have to limit myself to coming once a week for the health of myself and my wallet.

Found Café Piccante on a list of the best Fish & Chip places online and had to try them out. The food here is very good. I had Doner meat with chips and a large Doner meat portion. Everything was very tasty and hot. The staff here are also friendly and I had a chat with the owner who seemed very interested in me and where I was from. The second time I ate from here was just as good as the first time. The lady on the had a little trouble understanding me but these things happen. I had a fish supper (Fish & Chips) with a bottle of Irn Bru. All things considered, I would definitely come back to Café Picante next time I’m back In Edinburgh. In other words, I highly recommend this establishment.

I work just up the road and I often pop in for a late bite to eat and the food is normally to a good standard and delicious. However tonight I witnessed that the King rib for my king rib supper was microwaved I could clearly see from the counter. This has never happened before. Now I appriciated it was a Monday (a slow night for many places), I work In the trade myself so I know how it can be. But £6,45 for a microwaved kingrib is cheeky. Bonus is the chips where great as always. Please address this issue as you normally have great standards. But half the batter on my kingrib is tough and chewy (I blame the micro) Regards G

Excellent food and good takeaway place and even we can sit in for 10 people. 3 mins from bus station and 10 mins from Waverley railway station. We tried fish single which is huge in size and costs 4.50 GBP , and mixed donor kebab ( Lamb and chicken), overall loved the food and toilet facility is available but haven't tried it .

So everyone's heard of deep fried Mars Bars? Well, this is the place to come to get them. Cafe Piccante is sometimes more like a bar than a regular chippie (it has DJ sets on certain nights) and if you're sober, you might find the other customers a little unsteady on their feet shall we say. But it's full of character (and characters) so if you want to have a fish supper or a the aforementioned Mars Bar (it comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream by the way), then look no further.

Best place for drunk food, hands down. The staff is always in good spirits, and I'm only slightly embarrassed to say that at the end of a 4-day bender (with a stop at ol' Piccante each night) that they remembered my order - chips, cheese, and gravy. The fish and chips is great too, as is, of course, the infamous Deep Fried Mars Bar. It's generally a pretty fun way to end a night out, with intoxicated club-goers flocking to the place, and the DJ keeping the party going. Thanks Cafe Piccante!!!

Piccante is really the only place to go if you're on the way home to the north of Edinburgh from a night out in town. Brilliant location, great friendly staff who will deep-fry anything you have happened to procure on your night out just for a laugh. People will talk about their deep fried mars bars as they're well-reknowned. But try a deep fried Twix or two - you can thank me later. Typical chippy food, prepared with a smile and usually to some inane house music. Just what you need to hopelessly extend that Friday-night feeling until you get home.

Sure the whole thing was very greasy, but I expected it. On the other hand, it is unexpected to find sweets like fried Mars, which seems to be almost a classic of Scottish fry.
