The staff are incredibly friendly. My girlfriend saw someone else breakfast and instantly wanted the same, the chef saw her looking and came out the kitchen to ask if she would like to amend her order. Will be stopping back here!

I had coffee, porridge and their espresso brownie. The food was quite nice and also good priced. I was able to work there throughout the morning, the environment is quite nice and service is friendly. They were understaffed and at one point, it got rather busy, causing a bit of a delay, however, I realize this is not their fault. Would go back for more food and coffee!

We came here last Saturday. Homemade scones were very nice! Good quality coffee. The cake was beautifully presented and everything we ordered, we enjoyed. Went for brunch, lovely selection albeit not original, had a lovely French toasts and barchette with white chocolate cream (if you wonder what they are, you can find them online typing the name). Wonderful little foam art (see photo) that made the experience a little more memorable.. Compliments to the barista!

Whether you're getting it through deliveroo or eating in at the café, the food is absolutely delightful and consistently great quality! The sausages are herby and fresh along with everything else really. Eating in was a pleasure as all the staff were super nice, friendly and attentive. The decor is super cute and just such a nice happy and relaxing vibe. I highly recommend it and I can't wait to get back in there! 😊.

Best breakfast by far in Edinburgh. I am very picky eater and i am hard to please when it's about my most important meal: my breakfast. I had in various places sour coffee, stale bread, uncooked properly egg, but here all was done right: blackest of the coffee, fluffiest of the bread, the finest pork, the sauciest beans. Was so damn good i even asked them to give me some for takeaway so that i can have brunch on a mountain stuffing myself with more breakfast material. Very good

Came in for the amazing scones blurring the window and man did they make me happy! I asked for clotted cream although they serve scones with butter. But through some magic, 5 minutes later I had my clotted cream 💕 THE HAPPINESS! They were so friendly I want to move to Edinburgh and have scones here every day !

After the disappointing options at the hotel, we decided to venture out for breakfast. We stumbled upon La Viola and decided to give it a try. I must say that I am thoroughly impressed. Location The restaurant is located close to the royal mile and the busy tourist locations. It's an easy walk from most of the major hotels. Service The staff are super friendly and you can tell that they are invested in the success of the business. The waiting time is not bad at all. Food We don't usually like eating out for breakfast because I honestly think I can do better at home but the food here is worth the visit. I don't even like sausages but the ones they serve are divine. Check out the sweets and cakes. It's perfect for afternoon tea. Price Very reasonable. In fact, I expected to pay more for what we were served. In conclusion If ever you are in Edinburgh, it's probably worth skipping the hotel breakfast a few times and eating at La Viola.

Absolute gem! This cafe is absolutely amazing. The food is of the best quality, fresh and piping hot. We visited 4 days in a row as we wanted to try multiple items from the menu. The bacon is amazing. It’s top quality! The staff were extremely attentive and very friendly. We were even given a hot scone straight from the oven, which was delicious! Not far away from all the attractions. Worth a little walk. Will be back next time in Edinburgh!

The staff was amazing, very kind. The shop windows has an amazing set up that entice you to go inside and taste something. There are plenty of sweets and cakes, there is a very wide choice. We had the daily made fresh cakes. The carrot cake is among the best ones in Edinburgh, hands down. The Nutella cake was tasty and easy to eat and to digest (which is something that happens with this kind of cakes). I saw they also make brunches and breakfasts, so I'll come back to taste something else!

Not only do you feel like you're in cake Wonderland with many freshly baked cakes standing around on display, the cakes also all taste good. I've been coming here almost every weekend now and can't recommend it enough. A well kept secret: they also make the best fries in town. Thin, crispy and with actual spices and herbs and super cheap!

Best breakfast I’ve had in Scotland over the past 2 weeks! The food was seriously good, seasoned and cooked really well, just done really well and the staff were so lovely and sweetly proud of their gorgeous home baked pastries and lovely food. Wish I lived near here so I could go every weekend! My bf got the traditional Scottish breakfast and I got the vegetarian version (without eggs because I don’t like eggs) and both of us were so happy. Thank you to the staff :)

Wonderful place, loved the food so much I've tried to recreate the chicken bacon cheese melt at home! My family has ordered from here a few times, and been in person! Good quality food, delicious and fresh tasting, they also do student discount which is always a benefit! I was especially impressed with the staff, I had my epipen on the side of the table and the waitress immediately noticed and asked about allergies and told the kitchen staff AND confirmed that they had been careful about cross contamination when we did get our food :D

And if you are a little picky, they will gladly accommodate your wishes. We enjoyed bacon/eggs and sausages. I must highlight their brunch sausages. I've never tasted better. Also, they do a very good chai latte, to go with their extensive selection of delicious cakes. We enjoyed a chocolate/caramel cake. It was sinfully delicious. Visited twice recently and the food was nice, the cakes were really tasty. However as nice as the staff is, the service is very poor. The tables do not get cleared, even half an hour after customers leave, waited 30 mins to order food, then everything arrived at once, also had to go up to ask for the bill which was not correct. All of this while the place is not particularly busy and staff has time to chat to customers. It is a shame as other than the service the place has a great potential.

Had a full breakfast here in Sunday with my best friend, was forced to take my fiancé there three days later because he was jealous 😅 I honestly can't say anything more than this food is so good I happily eat here all the time. Staff is super friendly, currently due to COVID-19 they are practicing higher levels of sanitation and wearing face masks at all times, including the kitchen staff. 10/10 would recommend for breakfast, lunch, takeaway or simply a lovely cup of hot liquid 😜

They were very busy when we went and from what I could see they are not following covid guidelines. The tables were really close together and they were at full capacity. The food was ok. I had the veggie breakfast, it was cooked well but I didn't like the vegetarian sausage which was like mashed potato and vegetables shaped into a sausage. My husband had the full breakfast which was good. My nephew is vegan and although there was a vegan breakfast on the menu, it wasnt actually vegan!! We wouldn't go back but if you are a meat eater you will be fine.

my girlfriend and I had the most amazing experience in this café. it started with a beautiful breakfast - tasty, fresh and and a reasonable price. the location is beautifully decorated and the owner let us leave the luggage in the back while we could explore Edinburgh on our last day before we had to get back to the airport on the very same day. if I could only give 6 stars :) 100% recommend and THANK YOU again for this unique experience! we will def come back :)

I never leave reviews, but was so impressed with the food from La Viola, I had to. We just received the most incredible breakfast. A couple of breakfast rolls, that arrived lovely and warm & really hit the spot. We treated ourself to the eggs benedict & some the french toast too (the hangover may have made us order too much). Having only had a wee taste of the french toast, I can say it was fantastic with the bacon cooked to perfect crispyness. We’re leaving the rest to eat later, but I can’t wait. The portion sizes are very generous & all arrived quickly & hot on arrival. Thank you for brightening our Sunday, will definitely order again.

Excellent food. Owned by a Turkish gentleman. The place is often busy, especially at lunch time. Rightfully so, the food is fresh and delicious. The central location means many people locally on their lunch break come in for a takeaway lunch too. This is a hidden gem, easy to walk past, despite the yellow colouring, but the food it's something else. Good service. The high customer demand and food being prepared fresh can incur a slight wait, even a wait for a table first perhaps. However, completely worth it in my opinion. Tbe staff appear to value the customer's. I think there are likely quite a few regulars. I thoroughly recommend visiting cafe la viola. It's cosy but not small. The layout is a long narrow way, the seating is deceptive, holds more customers than perhaps assumed. The menu is varied, pasta, toasties and their soup is spectacular. There are freshly baked scones and other tray bakes available. The coffee is superior, however there tends to be too long a wait for the coffee, or its just been my timing. There are toilet facilities here also, I would guess the entrance is disabled friendly, however inside I wouldn't be confident in saying that there is disabled seating available? The tables are rather close together, however, I believe it would be easy to arrange suitable seating pretty quickly? I guess it's something I'd recommend checking prior to visiting. As I wouldn't like to say for sure. The customer satisfaction they strive for I don't think it would be an issue.

Without doubt the very best bistro/cafe I have had the privilege of visiting in the centre of Edinburgh. A menu which provides choices to suit all tastes, dietary intolerances, appetite sizes and special requests. Brunch/lunch options include tastiest smashed avacado with poach eggs on a choice of breads/muffins/crumpets and cooked to perfection, imaginative fresh salads, generous wraps served with fries & salad, homemade pasta dishes & fluffy pancakes served with healthy or unhealthy alternative toppings. Added to this impressive menu are a vast number of homebaked items/sweet treats, including sponges, biscuits, baklava, cheesecakes, gatteaux, pastries and traybakes. As well as savoury, sweet and plain scones, with unusual ideas including fig &blue cheese and fresh strawberry, blueberry. Even more notable is the attentitiveness of the friendly, personable, patient, good humoured and extremely diligent staff. Serving with a smile, they are clearly determined to ensure that customers enjoy their experience. The manager, Ishmel (?) is so incredibly caring and should be very proud of his achievement. All in all a fabulous little place - I just wish it was open int he evening.
