Reviews of Lady and The Bear
R. A.
A really nice design and atmosphere for a cafe just at the corner of the street. Love the high ceiling and openness of the cafe, allowing light to shine upon the place from all angles. Great menu variety filled with pastries , savoury dishes and drinks as well. A great place for a brunch date!
I. V.
Very nice and cozy place with a great variety of fleshly handmade goodies every day (savoury and sweet)! Perfect corner to enjoy a cup of coffee or herbal tea (amongst other drinking choices).I really liked the fact that it is bright and while sitting there you have a view at the Meadows, instead of just seeing other buildings. The owners/staff are very friendly and happy to clarify any questions about the ingredients. Will definitely go again!

This place is my favourite place to go for coffee if I’m around Newington at the moment! nice selections of sweet and savoury things to choose from, very nice coffee! The staff are amazing!! smiley faces always welcoming and a good service.
K. B.
Amazing freshly made pancakes, smoothies and sandwiches. Lovely airy environment and good views over The Meadows. Staff really helpful and friendly. Had a lovely lunch here.

This place hits close to home! Loved the hospitality, the spinach pie was home-day and the coffee was lovely. It feels very warm and cosy also it offers student discounts ✨

Upon entering this establishment, we approached the counter and my cousin politely asked the main barista if we were allowed to sit in. "no" was his reply, immediately handing us a tissue to dry out tears, before chuckling. It was a beautiful moment, but not as beautiful as the tripleshot latte that was placed at our table five to six minutes later. The space itself was bright and sparkling. The cinnamon bun was delectable. I have never been more content with a Saturday afternoon coffee date. Seven stars at least.

I visited here two times. Unfortunately both times I felt uncomfortable. Staffs seemed unwelcome me. These issues may impact my review regarding food and beverage. Food and beverage also weren’t great as well.

A spacious and warm corner on a lovely spot. The minute i entered it i felt a wave of good energy embrace me.
I personally had a lovely coffee with one of the best spinach pies i ever tried ( and i tried a lot).
Lady and the Bear' gave my eyes, my belly and my heart an excellent sensation.
I cant wait to visit soon and try more of those pies and cakes.By the way the owners are sweet and welcoming as a 'Lady and a Bear' inspire to be.

Just amazing ! Great vibe and although it looks like a small cafe its menu is full of options from brunch hot dishes to light bites . I am gutted i did not get pictures ! We got a lovely Nutella brownie which was still warm! two different bagels and a cinnamon bun also warm ! Amazing coffee! will definitely visit again ! A gem just beside meadows .

We came in here for coffee on the last morning of our stay in Edinburgh and wish we’d found it sooner. It’s a beautiful space, light and airy with lots of seating. The coffees were one of the best we’ve had in Edinburgh (no mean feat) and the cinnamon bun was delicious!
S. S. Z.
Lovely and welcoming atmosphere. First time going in and felt like we were regulars with how friendly the staff were. Good selection of pastries and drinks. Location is also perfect, overlooking the meadows. Looking forward to our next visit.
A. M.
An amazing experience. We had a tsoureki cinnamon and Shakespeare Royal! The coffee was aromatic and refreshing. The interior is very carefully designed and it is a quite place to have your brunch and coffee with friends and family
J. T.
Staff very friendly, but overall overpriced.
Freshly squeezed orange juice (£4.50) was actually from the carton, nothing fresh about it. Spinach&feta pie was tasty.
60p for oat milk is too much as well, most of dairy free alternatives in Edinburgh are free of charge.
B. E.
Delicious vegan options and a lovely environment.
I. L.
Really average fare. When we went, they were out if a good proportion of their menu. The omelette was poorly seasoned with scant filling. Coffee was poor.
V. M.
I came here based on some wonderful reviews but was left disappointed. The coffee was poor and there were a lack of milk alternatives. The staff were also slightly rude to not just me but other customers also.
Χ. Π.
Excellent service and tasty food. We had a bears hot chocolate, a Ferrero latte a cinnamon and a Nutella tsoureki plus brunch. Shakespeare royal and the duente. So unique refreshing and aromatic. Everyone was very helpful and with a big smile.
H. D. K.
A rare gem hidden in plain sight. Amazing location with great food and friendly staff. What more could you possibly ask for? Definitely worth a visit!
I. T.
This is a fantastic place for brunch/lunch or coffee. All the dishes are freshly made with great attention to detail. The fresh pies and pastries are also amazing. I would definitely recommend it as a must-go coffee/brunch spot in Edinburgh!
J. D.
Incredible veggie brunch. Also had vegan and meaty options. And very dog friendly, staff brought water and biscuits and ear scratches.
M. K.
An atmosphere that is airy, fresh, lively and busy benefiting from a first class view out to the Meadows. Very social atmosphere too (with part of the cafe allocated as a place to study). The one thing is, the cafe closes early, but if not it would have potential to be a wonderful vibrant evening social/study venue given its site, situation and local demographics.
I. T.
Great shop with nice atmosphere and good service. The food was really delicious with organic ingredients and home made so great quality overall. Definitely deserves a visit while in Edinburgh! Highly recommended for everyone who enjoys Mediterranean cuisine!
P. G.
Great and cosy place, the seating and tables are perfect for studying however there aren't many places to sit if it gets busy. Would recommend going at a off peak time!
E. A.
Delicious food, friendly service, bright and airy space. Highly recommend :)
C. C.
Great place to hang out, with a cosy relaxed atmosphere and some of the most delicious freshly prepared snacks in Edinburgh! Go there for the coffee and stay for the sweet or sour Greek-glish modern fusion delicacies...
PS. wonderful spot to savour rare moments of Scottish sunshine too.

*****
Come rain or shine, I found my perfect spot in Edinburgh to eat, work, meet friends, read or just have a quick coffee. I love this place not only because of the super-sweet owners who have worked this place from scratch, but because it's the rare combination of being cozy enough to feel at home but bright and spacious enough not to have to get "too personal".
Super-rare: EVERYTHING is home-made from scratch at regular prices. None of the antiseptic vegan-fuzz but personal care throughout. And it has plants – aaaah! And it's always busy but somehow always quiet – boom! And there are huge windows to let the sun in (when it shines) and if it's not, the two very energetic owner-couple will make up for it with their immense Mediterranean spirit.... ;-). Thank you for this gift to the city!! Achim Wieland, Berlin.

Lovely cafe with lots of seating. We had breakfast and coffees. The good was great. The cafe is dog friendly too!
M. C.
Nice pastries and coffees and friendly staff. It was busy when we were here and the drinks took a while to come but were worth the wait.
P. A.
Off the usual Edinburgh routes but a must try. Relax and enjoy at breakfast, brunch or lunch. Mediterranean flavours.
C. G.
Lovely find in Edinburgh near arthurs seat. Great food.freshly made and good vegan varieties. Great staff.lovely setting
m. v.
Cozy place with great coffee and some nice freshly made pies. The staff was very friendly and the service was excellent.
A. G.
The food has been consistently fantastic over my last few visits. The staff seem friendly and the cafe environment is great. Only suggestion would be that the coffee in the small glass seems quite odd as the glass makes the drink feel cold. It would be great to see them in coffee cups.
N. M.
Where do I begin? Delicious food AND coffee!!! Awesome environment, ideal location especially for the (rare)sunny days in Edinburgh where the light and sun comes directly in! Super friendly staff! Just perfect🤩😋
L. T.
Excellent atmosphere, welcoming service and mouthwatering food! The coffee is perfect and of high quality! The cakes and pies are delicious and many of them organic!!!!This cafe is a gem in the heart of Edinburgh city and worth visiting for sure!!!!Highly recommended!!!
P. K.
Nice and bright cafe to sit in but I don't like how they overcharge for oat milk (+0.60). Sustainable milk substitute: A) isn't that much more expensive and B) should be encouraged. I often ended up paying around £4 for a coffee and it wasn't worth it.
S. C.
Cosy place. The staff is nice and the service is quick. The food is very good but the prices are a bit too high.
C. w. l. “.
Really busy the day we went, and I can see why. Amazing food, and lovely friendly staff. Not a cheap lunch so not a budget type of place but really tasty food and good quality.
F. R.
Delicious pies, very nice coffees and indulging desserts!!!!we ordered cheese pie, spinach pie and apple pie along with 2 cappuccinos. I
I can't really tell which one tasted better!!!!Everything was homemade, pies with handmade fyllo and fresh ingredients and cake full of flavour!!!! Staff was very friendly and welcoming as well and interior design is minimal sophisticated making you sitting back to your chair and relax...I would defo recommend it and will be back very soon!!!Thank you!!!
M. C.
Lovely airy room, and nice (but expensive!) coffee. Would like even more if there weren't signs everywhere telling you how long you can stay, which tables you can use a laptop at, etc. I understand why they're doing this but it's a little off-putting: there must be softer ways of managing things.
M. C.
Lovely cafe run by lovely people, although being Greek myself I might be a bit bias. Nice atmosphere and tasty food and they keep adding on items on the menu.
Highly recommended!
F. W.
Coffee and cake was nice but as a tourist I didn't appreciate having to pay by card.
N. M.
Awesome food and coffee. A large variety of homemade organic products made with the utmost care and love. The ambience of the cafe is amazing and inviting to relax after a hard day. Great service. I would recommend it to anyone!
L. B.
Lovely place with nice choice if food. Only downside a tad expensive but lots of places not cheap now. Nice friendly staff though x
M. C.
The location is so pretty and the coffee is amazing.
We thought we could have pancakes or granola but that's only available on weekends from 10
It's a bit excessive maybe but the food we had was nice
G. P.
Nice bright welcoming atmosphere, good pastries and an excellent chai latte
D. S.
Great coffee and delicious pies!! Delicious vegetarian and vegan options as well, as my girlfriend is veg. Friendly stuff! And the best the location - in the corner with view on the park and so bright!! Our new place :) :)
A. P. F.
Have had Greek style soup and snacks, very good coffee and friendly service.
Card payments only.

New café across the street from Summerhall. Very convenient to have a pause between shows during the Fringe.
E. G.
Amazing place with a great atmosphere. The people there are very very friendly and nice.
V. M.
One of the best places in Edinburgh! Freshly baked, delicious homemade Greek pastries and pies as well as iced coffees🤤. Also, the stuff is very friendly and professional, certainly a place worth visiting!
*definitely try the feta and olive pie, the kataifi and the spinach pie*
H. A.
Good coffee. A bit overpriced but its fine. Quite tempting location, often overcrowded. Would have been a better experience with a bit of background music in house.
R. K.
Fabulous coffee, delicious pastries, good service - would recommend
C. C.
I love this cafe. I had a delicious flat white made with oatmilk, my hubby a dairy cappuccino and filo, cream and strawberry cake. They offer a small range of panini, cakes and pastries that looked great quality, with vegan options. The staff were friendly and helpful. A carafe of fresh water brought to the table as standard. The cafe has a bright, appealing interior, the music was low key and relaxing. It's a comforable and calm place to sit and while away a little time. If I lived locally I'd be a regular!
G. A.
Great place coffee and food! Hidden gem in Edinburgh
A. S.
If you are sitting outside, be prepared to eat and drink from paper bags and plastic cups. Not very sustainable.
H. C.

M. K.
The coffees are amazing here and the staff are all lovely and friendly. The atmosphere is one of the best in Edinburgh :)
M. S.
great coffee and pastries. Very nice space but i think the cup for the “flat white” is so huge it will be better if it smaller.

Very nice place. Vivid atmosphere and very tasty food. The coffee is excellent!
S. W.
There was no WiFi when I visited, so it wasn't suitable as a cafe to go work from. The detox tea was really nice.
R. C.
Came here as I saw it has recently opened so wanted to pop in ordered a hot chocolate and was unpleasant. Tasted sour for what the price was worth.
