Reviews of Mimi's Bakehouse
G. D.
Lovely place, very good sandwiches (tried the one with Milano salami) as well as good cakes and scones. I was expecting a little bit more for the cake and the coffees but overall a great place to have a brunch or a scone!
S.
Lovely stay in this bakery. I remember being here 9 years prior for my first visit to Edinburgh. It was a pleasure to come back again for the second, it was just as delicious as I had remembered. Would strongly recommend their Mimi’s Scottish Blend and Oreo cupcakes, but honestly, any pick will be beyond your expectations. It was lovely to stop here after our walk toward Lieth, alongside the Water Lieth.

Had a Flat White and their Nutella Raspberry French Toasts. They were quite fulfilling and the quantity was good. The French Toasts were sweet and fulfilled my sweet tooth cravings. The coffee was good too. The prices are a bit on the higher side as with most restaurants on the shore. The restaurant is quite huge from the inside and has lots of sitting space.
R. H.
Soup was lovely, if a little spicy for me personally. Scones were lovely and the cakes looked divine! Staff were extremely helpful too.

I only have photos of the take away cakes from last Christmas (they were amazing and recommend!)
But I've been to sit in at the Leith restaurant and both on the phone and in person we had one over the top sassy/moody waiter and on the phone they were not very friendly.
The cakes are lovely, when I dined in we had Brownies and coffee but the waiters kept trying to rush us to finish it seemed, coming over in turns to ask if we wanted anything else, then to take the plates as soon as I ate the last mouthful of brownie. We were barely there 30mins in total, decided against that second slice of cake and decided to leave.
Their baked goods are lovely and worth their price but I tend to recommend collection or take away to friends now unless you are doing a full afternoon tea as they don't seem to like people dropping in for coffe and cake.

I went here with my mum and got some afternoon tea.Cakes are delicious ,so were the sandwiches. Cosy atmosphere. Staff are very friendly .Nice location down at the shore

We slunk in as a group of 5 less than an hour before closing, so our options were limited but we were able to order just what we were looking for - delicious pots of tea accompanied by cake slices and scones with the all of the fixings.
Mimi's offers such an immersive experience with their cute and hilarious decor (where can I get that wallpaper?), cozy layout, mouth-watering pastry display, and friendly service. We all agreed that the clotted cream made in-house was the best we experienced on our entire trip across Scotland and the isles - we could have eaten whole jars of it! We especially loved this enchanting location in Leith along the river as it was literally the first stop off of the Leith Walk trail - just what we needed.
With all the wishy-washy ratings on afternoon tea in Edinburgh, Mimi's Bake House offers a guaranteed wonderful experience that won't disappoint. Skip the overpriced, mediocre, and gimmicky offers from the big hotels and restaurants and get the wholesome and authentic experience at Mimi's.

I went to afternoon tea by myself and had a great time. Their fruit scones with homemade jam and clotted cream changed my life! I thought I wouldn’t like them (because the ones I’ve had in the America are gross), but I’ve now converted to the pro-scone party.
The other desserts and sandwiches were nice but not particularly noteworthy. It was the overall tea experience that made the visit worthwhile.

Lovely cafe! We had Scottish tea, brunch beans with chorizo and cheese and the brioche bun stack - wow fantastic!!! So delicious!!

I absolutely loved my visit to Mimi’s Bakehouse earlier today.
For starters, ALL the girls that had interactions with me were amazing, they were super friendly and very accommodating to my personalised requests. Also I saw them cleaning up after small kids throwing food everywhere on the floor, they definitely need some recognitions for their hard work.
I was being adventurous and tried their black pudding Eggs Benedict, I would say I prefer regular Eggs Benedicts but the black pudding version is still very tasty and definitely worth a try!
I also got a massive scone for only £2, it was very filling and delicious!
100% recommended and will definitely visit again when I’m in Leith next time.

Really nice brunch at Mimi’s. Great friendly service. Nice surroundings. Brunch portions are massive. Cakes are exceptional so leave space for one!
A. J.
First time in Leith, the food was tasty and plenty and the service was excellent. The lady made sure our grandmother was welcome and was helpful and friendly on every score. I run a Hotel and genuine characters like the young lady (sorry I missed her name) make all the difference..... chatty and efficient in equal measure.

Recently visited Mimi’s in Leith with a group of friends for breakfast and it was epic! I ordered the eggs with hickory-smoked bacon and it was delicious. I especially loved the coffee. I couldn’t resist the cakes on the way out, check out the tray bakes in the display cabinet when you go, they are absolutely divine. Thank you Mimi’s and your wonderful staff for looking after us. Will definitely call in again when I’m next in Edinburgh!!

I went in for brunch this weekend with my glorious mother. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, the coffees were beautiful, my mother had avocado toast. I cannot praise it enough, we also got brownies which Elliot was incredibly helpful with as there as many choices. Will definitely be returning soon, thank you mimi’s.

We visited on Saturday at 10am thinking we wouldn't get a table as we always see it very busy at weekends. We had no problem at all getting a table but by 11 it was full.
Both food and coffee were great and the service was attentive. All the servers were nice and the girl at the door took the time to call a taxi for us even if it was really busy.
The only thing I'd say is that there's a lot of noise when it’s busy with people at tables talking, but I guess this is normal.

What a fab place to come! On a weekend visit to see friends we popped to Mimi’s (Leith) for a late breakfast. The food was superb (generous portions) and the service was impeccable! Friendly staff who were happy to help, were on top of the orders and all done with a smile. What a lovely experience, I will definitely be going back!

Afternoon tea - food was amazing, but let down by the service. Had to wait for a table as our table was getting cleaned, then saw a waitress taking another group to our table. Confused waitresses then had to ask them to move as it was our table. The afternoon tea arrived, we had to ask for cutlery..... Then we asked for another pot of tea and a latte. After 10 minutes we had to ask again for our drinks. Within 2 minutes it was delivered. Wrong tea - we got a pot of flavoured tea.... This was quickly sorted. But I'd expect better service from Mimi's
M. A.
We absolutely love this place. We prefere the one on Leith so we can dine in. We visit whenever we are in Edinburgh since 2013. The quality is excellent and remains the same . The service is lovely, they are friendly, patient and have colouring menus for children. The decorations are pretty and make the ambience special. The food quality is excellent from the eggs, bacon, avocado to the coffee. Quality Scottish sourced products. We just love it!
J. R.
Booked online for 1 o’clock but they managed to squeeze us in earlier at 11 which was nice. Probably the best scones we have ever tasted with fresh jam and clotted cream. Also the poached egg with salmon was lovely as the salmon tasted really fresh. The cafe was all social distanced and the staff wore plastic face coverings and gloves. Felt very safe.

This is our go to cafe for a treat! As a family and individually we go to the Comely bank and Leith Mimis often. Staff are always very friendly, helpful, and tolerant of toddler's whims. Cakes and traybake (we have sampled many) are reliably amazing and the meals are great - portion sizes are very generous. I would definitely recommend!
C. R.
Always love Mimi's Afternoon Tea.; Only downside is the sandwiches have changed and I much preferred the cheese & pickle, ham etc that we got before. Otherwise, I have no complaints.
G. M.
Had an amazing breakfast at Mimis, great selection to pick from and was amazed at the portion size when it arrived! Staff were very polite, attentive and accommodating with my 3 year olds breakfast needs. The traybakes looked amazing so we got them to go…..the best traybake I have ever had and the brownie was world class.
I. P.
A bakehouse how you would imagine it. It has very friendly staff and you will feel well here. Come early that you will have free seats. The cappuccino was delicious and the carror cake also. Be careful of the calories in the cake:) its only crowded and you need to choose the best day to vist. So Sunday afternoon would not be the best day for it. You can also have a breakfast or light meals if you wish. What makes it so special is that it is directly on the shore. Its the perfect place Ieith. They have also a second store on the royal mile. This bakehouse chain is very successful and when you enter it you will know why. You could also book an afternoon tea. This place is famous for it too. Enjoy;)
C. H.
A very good place for Scottish breakfast
A.
We love Mimi's, but over the years its become increasingly impossible to walk in on a whim. Worse still is it has become one of those half empty but fully booked places. It's very frustrating and discouraging to not see even just a few tables reserved for locals who want to nip in for breakfast.
U. M.
So worth the drive from the center. The scones are delicious! Make sure to ask for the scones since they are not on the menu(found the place in a few top scones places for Edinburgh). The clotted cream and jam are delicious and all together is just so so yummy! Also, the place is really pretty and the staff is friendly!
A. C.
Nice and cozy little place on the river in Leith. We got here when it started to rain outside, to get warmth and drink something comforting. We also got a good slice of cake from the daily selection: a carrot cake and a cheesecake, both exquisitely good (the carrot cake glazing, maybe a little too much sweet for me)!! Also got a hot chocolate and a Pumpkin Spice Latte, both with whipped cream on top.
Definitely recommended for an afternoon stop, maybe a tea.
S. K.
One of the sweetest cafe and my favourite now. It was real rainy day and I and my boyfriend went there for brunch. I had a veg breakfast and it was just what I wanted, I mean it was unique one and I loved it. We went for a walk in rain and gave up walking then came back to this place for tea and cake! Daim( my best favourite ) cheese cake was just like in heaven... mmm. I also did take away rockyroad and brownie which was fab. The staffs were so friendly too. I definitely recommend!!

Mimi’s Bakehouse does a PHENOMENAL Afternoon Tea!!
I literally come up with any excuse to gather the friends or family around to Mimi’s at the Shore for an afternoon tea. Birthdays, girls days out, weekend treat yo’ self gatherings— all good reasons to make a reservation.
The afternoon tea is already set with an amazing mix of sweet and savory treats with an option of your choice of tea or coffee, all included in the set price. Additionally, you can opt for the tea and a lovely mimosa or breakfast cocktail. The cakes, sandwiches, and scones will not disappoint, if anything, you’ll only be disappointed in yourself for not having enough reserve to leave the additional cakes for later in the afternoon, as you’re nursing the food coma you’ve put yourself into.
All in all, this place will change your life. Aside from the food, the decor is adorable, and the staff lovely.
This is a must for anyone visiting Edinburgh who is looking for a real treat.
A. K.
Mmmm amazingly yummy food! I recently moved to Edinburgh and discovered this place, I've already been twice in a month. The cupcakes are yum and the banana biscoff French toast is amazing!
U. A.
First time to Mimi’s Bakehouse, what a delight. Very busy venue, but the staff are so welcoming and kind, really makes it special. The food itself: Wow! I had the Halloumi and Avocado on sourdough bread with poached eggs on top, absolutely delicious. The coffee is great as well. They also have a loyalty card, so will most definitely be back!
叢.
Really? A Victorian(ish) Bakehouse in Leith? Oh yes & me very much likey!
After their recent expansion, Mimi's Bakehouse has flourished and now more people can enjoy the wonderful treats and food choices on offer. Do take NOTE: There are still waiting lists for the more popular times (!). Even though the boudoir ambiance is catered towards women I did like the especially designed, cheeky pin-up wall paper and the French madame inspired seating snuggle corners.
Pink armchairs.. yup.
We went for a breakfast on a rainy winter Saturday morning. French toast and a full Scottish breakfast included of black pudding and of course haggis.
And to top it we had a prosecco once our fare was devoured.
The place is welcoming, clean and unusual. The staff is lovely and well efficient. This being on my doorstep I certainly will not miss out on their many treats!
Did I mention the burlesque ladies on the wall and washroom mirrors :o)
A. S.
As wonderful as all the hype suggests. Excellent service, delightful food, stunning decor and a gorgeous location. Hard to find any flaws with Mimi's!
R. C.
French toast with sausages and roast tomatoes was delicious, light fluffy creamy bread, huge helping too. The avocado on toast with crispy bacon was apparently really good as well. Staff were friendly, and the coffee was good. The orange juice is freshly squeezed. The cakes looked amazing, but we couldn't manage anything else after our breakfast, I really want to try one of their cupcakes sometime!

Loved it... A perfect place to sit down, have a cake and slowly sip coffee while listening to soft music. The neo-Victorian ambience is a bonus 😇

I'm reviewing this bakery specifically in relation to an order for a custom made cake for a 30th birthday. I chose a Nutella and Raspberry cake which was very tasty, although not exactly as I'd imagined. It had maybe 10 or 11 actual raspberries on the cake and the inside didn't have jam or fruit, but more of the buttercream filling. That wasn't really what I was looking for but I probably could have been more specific with the shop before ordering (I recommend you order over the phone, not via the website, so you can ask questions before paying). When I collected the cake, I asked if I could buy some balloons, and I ordered 2 bunches. They inflated them while I waited and brought me very ordinary looking small sets of blue balloons (about 3 in each set), which were perfectly sufficient, but they then charged me just over £13 for *each* of the sets! It came to almost £30 for two sets of pretty basic looking blue balloons. It really was criminally overpriced, especially in comparison to the price of the cake which was totally reasonable. I paid out of embarrasment, and then bought about 10 times the amount of balloons (in terms of both quantity and quality) from a high street retailer. So, overall 4 stars for the cake because although it wasn't exactly to my taste, it was still a good job and very attractive looking. For the balloons it's zero stars (my advice to the owner - please stop profiteering on the extras!). Overall I think three stars is fair. Personally, I would probably go elsewhere for a custom cake in future as there are so many other options in Edinburgh and the balloon incident left a bad taste in my mouth. However, I would say that the cakes are generally good quality and that there is a wide range of options to choose from on their online menu, so you may have a better experience than I did.

Lovely coffee and excellent variety of delicious cakes. Nice atmosphere and pleasant staff…..comes pretty close to perfection.
m. a.
First class food and service, not surprised they have won so many awards. We visited on a Friday lunchtime, looked like a mother and toddler group had turned out so it a bit loud!! Highly recommended
H. C.
We ordered a birthday cake and it was absolutely lush! Wow! Thank you it was demolished and everyone commented on how delicious it was.
A. A.
Great little bakehouse, we had these sweet take aways. I had the mars bar with rice crackers, it was delicious, especially if you're a sweettooth like me! Price is reasonable and the portion is pretty generous. Only draw back is that the place is small and it was packed lol
e.
Wonderful place to have brunch or just relax. Popped in before a trip to the castle and the brunch fries were exquisite! The staff were super friendly and helpful as well.
T. M. P.
Not as good as it looks. Cakes are nice and soft but a bit dry. Capuccino and chai latte were lukewarm and cakes were only served 10 minutes after we got the drinks. Service was ok since the place was packed. They do not give you a menu or instructions on how/what to order unless you ask for it.
C. G.
Visited here based on other reviews and it was worth the trip across town. Staff friendly and found us a table. The scones are amazing. Really fresh and a good size. The hot chocolate is impressive too
F. B.
Disappointing! I was expecting something better. The cakes look amazing but the taste is standard. Nothing special. The staff is a bit rude and not customer friendly.
G. G.
Oh this is an amazing place. My once a week breakfast spot in Edinburgh. Such a lovely staff and just amazing French toast. A must try!
N. G.
The place is wonderful, the vegan options are fantastic. The sweets are especially good. Any of the vegan cakes or chocolate bars is a must try.
D. X.
Nice place to go with friends. Hot chocolate is great - not too sweet. Nice selection of cupcakes, cheesecake and normal cake. Staff is welcoming and helpful
D.
Attentive staff, generous portions (and tasty) and very reasonable prices! Will definitely be back. Delicious value for money. Good brunch.
I. M.
Had the afternoon tea and absolutely loved it. Wasn't able to eat anything for the rest of the day
H. T. A.
Mimi's became one of my favourite places for breakfast. Their French toast with bacon and Maple syrup is to die for ☺ their Macaroni cheese another amazing dish. Their cakes are so delicious. They do birthday cakes too I order from them very often the velvet cake being one of my regular choices. The staff is very friendly. Very relaxing place to gather with family or friends.
B. J.
My wife and I enjoyed several breakfasts here during our one week stay in Leith. I loved the posh beans on toast and the avocado toast with houlumi cheese and other delights. My wife got stuck on the fruit scones and had them again and again. She's Scottish, so she knows her scones. The service here was exceptionally warm and friendly. I look forward to returning on our next trip to Edinburgh.
A. M.
Great service and food. But eggs were over done! 1 minute less on eggs and 5 stars
A. M.
Good coffee. Attractive traditional interior.friendly and prompt service. The highlight delicious Danish pastries freshly baked behind the ba.
P. F.
My wife and I had a brunch there. We had French toast, a collection of small pastries, coffee and tea.
Let's start from the atmosphere. It is lovely! The cute wall paper is eye catching. This cozy place is decorated with small sofas which are comfortable if you just wanna have a drink. For the actual food you need a table, trust me.
The mini pastrie and mini sandwitche micollections were amazing. Among pastries, the banana bread was outstanding. My Americano was prepared at the right strength and it tasted perfect. I should not forget talking about the brioche French toasts. It was wonderful and different. At least I didn't expect that.
V. A.
I can't praise Mimi's enough. I recently ordered afternoon tea to be delivered as a wedding anniversary gift for my son and daughter-in-law. But unfortunately they tested positive for covid and lost their sense of taste and smell. Not only did Mimi's respond quickly to my email asking to exchange for a voucher so they could enjoy the tea at a later date, but the voucher arrived the next day. What fantastic service and I know from past visits it will be worth waiting for. x
P. D.
Lovely place Lovely food and friendly staff nice and sunny outside
M. H.
Dropped in without a booking, was happy to wait till a table was free. Great staff, very friendly atmosphere, fabulously tasty treats (as always), generous portions and VERY good prices. All in a perfectly kitsch setting. What's not to love?
M. P.
I loved everything. Especially the hot amazing waiter Kuba, coffee was delicious too. Definitely recommending it to my friends! Staff is friendly and welcoming! Love it love it love it!
E. M.
Just lovely! Excellent customer service, delicious food and drinks & a relaxed atmosphere... recommend the afternoon tea service 100%
J. B.
Fabulous breakfast and the friendliest service, our 2nd visit and a must do when visiting Edinburgh!
C. E.
We booked the afternoon tea which was lovely, tho more pricey and less included then others we've had recently. Unlimited tea is included, but if like my husband, you don't drink tea, the waitress makes a point of saying that only one coffee is included. That's fine, but they bring drinks 15 mins before the food, so you've drunk it by the time it arrives. They were busy and we found it hard to catch the eye of the staff when we wanted them, even to pay! Possibly they are a victim of their own success, but not sure it's worth the money.
N. C.
Lovely service and cakes .
We arrived today just 20 minutes before closing ( I didn’t know the closing time was at 17 ) , but despite all staff welcomed us very professional and friendly ! Scones and cake are so good ! I will definitely choose Minis when visiting the Shore !
I. B.
Was visiting a friend and had a brunch here. They even substituted sausages on a menu item that wasn’t marked as vegetarian for me. Their cakes are super.
A. B.
Staff friendly, atmosphere agreable, unfortunately too much sugar in the cakes.
A. Y.
Fab place for tea. You need to book to get the set afternoon tea but if you haven't managed it try the French toast. The banana we had was divine (a bit too sweet for my liking but still!) And the savoury version is also a great hit with our table. The portion is huge though... You have been warned!
S. L.
Can't beat a visit to Mimi's. Great coffee, tasty brunch and an amazing selection of cupcakes, scones and tray bakes to name a few. Always a friendly service and booking is advisable.
T. L.
Adorable café with sweets and drinks
A. N.
Super delicious birthday cake & they had gluten free, so I was delighted! The staff are really friendly and helpful too. Would recommend.
S. M.
Can’t recommend them enough. Their cakes are delicious, I love that you can order one at such short notice, the brunch and coffee are fantastic (with very generous portions) but most of all, their staff have the best customer service and always happy to help.
J. R.
Spacious and clean premises and very nice courteous staff who don't rush you. Also open later than a lot of other cafés so one gets a chance of a nice warm drink after a longish walk.
o.
Nice place, hearty pretty meals, good price! The bread was a bit overtoasted that it was hard to cut it with the knife
A. S.
Everything is awesome!
Great, quick service with a smile, scrumptious food, tasty coffee, and a unique decor... All adding up to a really amazing place.
Their food portions are bigger than expected as the home baked sourdough bread is very filling! :) Perfect to drop in before a long journey to fill up the tummy.
R. R.
Went for a lunch. Good COVID secure process in place, so you feel very safe.
We had a delay with our 3 meals due to a mix up with the order not getting to the kitchen promptly. This was though dealt with proactively & superbly by our server and the manager. They couldn't stop apologising for this mix up. They even gave us our tea & cake after our meals for free, top customer service from the staff here.
The food, meals & cakes, were also outstandingly good. A high recommendation from me, my wife & daughter for Mimi's Bakehouse Leith!
L. M.
I’ve been to this place twice in a row for my sweet breakfast and I had both days a scone with clotted cream and raspberry jam. I live in London but I can’t find such nice scones, I loved it!
It’s also very cheap compare to other places on the Royal Mile, I paid 3.50 for a coconut cappuccino plus the scone, and the girls are very kind.
I did ask for their raspberry jam, as I’ve never tasted one so good, and they gave my two small caps with it to take to London with me.
Thank you very much really appreciated that! If I’ll come back one day I’ll go back to you for sure!
J. G.
A recommendation by an associate in Edinburgh.
Really enjoyed this place and the cakes look fantastic. It was a nice dining in experience but there are a few things I picked up on which they could to improve to 5 stars:
- Serve hot drinks with the food at the same time instead of drink first and then 20 mins later food comes out with no drink.
- Wasn't asked if I had any dietary requirements when seated whereas the ladies seated to my left was.
- The brand is slightly confused. Why do they serve cutlery in a Lyles tin and not their own name? Think they're missing a trick not having tins with their name on with social media links to follow.
- It could be renamed Mimi's Bakehouse and Co as I assumed this place was only for cakes but they do proper food. A bit confusing.
Overall I would recommend but wouldn't jump to go in a hurry.
W. H. C.
Nice environment for families, couples, and alone. The price for meals is also good. The waiters are friendly. Enjoyed eating in Mimi's so much.
K. M.
Tasty sweets and tea. Nice stuff
S. N.
Very average for an award winning bakery. The place looks worn out and somewhat dirty (the sofas have seen their fair share of cake crumbs and icing and the table was full of tea stains). The service is average and the atmosphere far too loud. The food is ok, but the afternoon tea is expensive taking it all into account and it took too long to be served seeing that most of it is prepared in advance. It feels like the place is sitting on past glories. Shame because it used to be a lovely unpretentious cafe.
r. s.
Our lunch was nice, the menu isn't your typical cafe stuff, which was refreshing. The staff were very courteous to us and friendly. The prices I feel aren't justified, £9 for a curryworst on a roll was a little steep I thought, but it was tasty.
The decor is quizzical!? Wallpapered with semi naked women covering their breasts with cup cakes isn't really all the 21st century, I get that's it's retro but hey, you wouldn't have a golliwog doll, but objectification is cool?
I don't regret our visit, but I won't be rushing back.
A. H.
The food is fantastic. My favourite is the French Toast that is available throughout the day. There's a savoury version (with bacon, or sausages, or both!) and a sweet version (packed with Nutella). The location is also a treat, they provide outdoor seating and, especially on a sunny day, can be super relaxing. In terms of cake, you just can't go wrong with any of the available selection. They do seriously tasty cheesecake (my personal favourite is the Oreo kind).
C. D.
When we walked into Mimi's on a bright but chilly autumnal Sunday, the waitress welcomed us in very warmly and was relieved we had booked a table, as were we - the queue for a table was almost out of the door.
We settled down for our afternoon tea and weren't disappointed. The warm scones were absolutely lovely and the tiny sandwiches delicious. The cupcakes and biscuits were so nice to look at, it seemed cruel to have to eat them. We managed it though.
The friendly waitress even packed up some of the cakes we were too full to eat so we could tuck into them later.
Top marks all round!
E. C.
Very nice scones with homemade jam. The savoury tart and raspberry cheesecake were excellent too.
k. f.
Good service, staff are polite and take care of you, especially if you have any food sensitivity/allergy.
Can be very busy but staff always make an effort to fit you in as much as they can.
Food is very expensive. Nine pounds for savory french toast consisted of two slices of very light white bread dipped in egg and deep fried with two slices of bacon served on top. Maple syrup costs an extra pound..... It was nice, but not 9 pounds nice. Vine tomatoes were on that menu item as well but they didn't arrive, I didn't ask about them as I didn't want to take the chance of having to pay out more money if I had misread the menu and they weren't included (I could have that wrong).
I ended up spending 20 per head on lunch, You could get more and better food elsewhere.
I didn't try the cakes, they looked nice. Admittedly I was a bit cheesed off by that point by the french toast, and didn't want to spend another potential 5 pounds on a cake.
Atmosphere is good, clean and tidy tables and toilets etc.
A. C.
Arranged a delicious Christmas cream tea to be delivered to my daughter who is isolating for Christmas 😥
Wonderful personal service from Mimi's - cannot thank you enough. Highly recommend!
I. S.
Fab afternoon tea. Lovely staff and delicious cakes!
L. L.
Tasty pastries and beverages, nice decoration and friendly staff but lack of place to sit if you want to eat inside and you come with more than 2 people ! But will definitely come back !
K. H.
Yum! I love this place, always such amazing selection of cakes. On my last visit I sampled their pulled pork roll followed by the Victoria sponge cake, both did not disappoint. Service is always really good and the view of the shore is lovely. Not my favourite bakehouse in Edinburgh however definitely up there!
T. S.
Amazing 🤩 Very friendly staff, beautiful decor and great views over the river. I would like to thanks waiter Kuba for making my breakfast with friends a great experience!
B.
What a lovely little cafe. Their selections of sweet and savoury treats were delightful. Had the tomato soup which was delicious, as well as Victorian sponge and their award winning scones. Service was friendly and prompt. Would recommend for afternoon tea.
J. H.
Mimi's Bakehouse is special!
Going here is always an absolute treat, at first I never made it past the cakes - they are always so impressive with a huge selection always exceedingly fresh.
I've made a point of visiting various cake shops in Edinburgh and Mimi's always scores high on my scale.
After a few visits I finally looked at the other offerings on the menu and was not disappointed - the bread is wholesome, fresh and chunky and veggie options are varied (though, there are not as many veg choices as I would like to see).
I've never had a disappointing visit to Mimi's but do make sure you book before you go otherwise chances are you won't get a table.

Desserts and coffees were great. Service was sub-par. You may also want to call ahead for a reservation.
S.
Great service and food, Daria was brilliant and attentive to our needs. Will come back.
N. B.
Had to wait 20 minutes for seats.
The food was very nice indeed.

Mimi's is such a cute bakehouse in the heart of The Shore in Edinburgh. The decor is fabulous with its bright pink chandeliers and lovely wall art. It's a very warm lovely atmosphere which is very welcoming.
It is very child friendly, has a ramp up to the door for easy buggy access, the food is fantastic and the staff are lovely. The choice on the menu is great with loooooots of cake selection.
Lovely charming place that I can't recommend highly enough.
R. M.
Good for lunch and brunch, not just cakes and afternoon teas. Coffee is ok too.
m. p.
Mimi's bakehouse is definitely my top listed coffe ahop in town! I am quite picky in general and every time I go therw they never failed to surpise me with the delicious choices for bruch, the best scones Ive ever had, the great coffee, the super yummy cakes, shortbread and more... Highly recommended!
I forgot to add the cosy atmosphere and aesthetically pleasing decoration.
J. B.
The Shakshouka was absolutely incredible - honestly the best brunch I've ever had and I've had mannnny.
R. C.
Nice food that would give you diabetes but tasty. Shockingly bad service in terms of no menu on table or given when sat down. Actively having to flag people down to order food. But friendly upon payment. Under the tables should be cleaned as it marked my friends trousers. Overall nice venue but service needs to be improved including chefs not walking through with dirty pots and areas like under tables to be cleaned as much as the tops.
T. C.
Just popped in for a coffee and had a bacon roll too. Both were hot and tasty and served with a smile.Only ever heard good things about Mimi's and now I can only say good things. Wasn't expensive either. I'll be back

Quality and quantity isn’t the most romantic of phrases, but when it comes to Mimi’s Bakehouse it is absolutely true. Beautiful cakes, delicious lunches and mammoth afternoon teas are all exquisite and with mighty fine portions to match.
On the sweet treats front, you can take your pick from tray bakes, cupcakes and layer cakes, all delicious and all incredibly naughty. If it’s something savoury you’re after, Mimi’s tart is always delicious, and the fishcakes are also really good.
If you’ve got the time, the Champagne afternoon tea is well worth it. Beautiful and delicious, just make sure you take a doggy bag – getting through all that food is quite a task, but one you’ll have so much fun doing!
M. C.
Fantastic place. Booked on their website which was very easy and they confirmed my booking immediately. Had high tea today which was delicious. Staff are lovely and when they found out it was my birthday they brought a cake with a candle for me. Would thoroughly recommend.
J. W.
This is a fantastic wee place. Amazing food, particularly the afternoon tea and the non-traditional beforenoon tea, which highlight a lot if their incredible baking. Come hungry as the portions are generous. It has a relaxed and cosy, yet bustling, atmosphere. I recommend booking in advance. There always seems to be a wait when my wife and I have gone. And it is so worth that wait.
S. R.
Service was first class, staff friendly and attentive despite being very busy. Really enjoyed their beforenoon tea, especially enjoyed the cheddar cheese and chive scones. They are well prepared to cater to diverse dietary requirements. My husband enjoyed his gluten and lactose free beforenoon tea. Will definitely be back!
C. L.
Beautiful breakfast, friendly staff a great place to try!
D. S.
Mimi's have got such a great thing going on. First and foremost, their cakes are fantastic - my favourite are the coconut and jam bars, but frankly i'll eat any cake that Mimi's produces. The cafe is also fantastic - the decor is fun and quirky, there's loads of space, it's got a great atmosphere that's always buzzing, and did I mention the cakes?
Mimi's also do a great takeaway service - if you fancy a picnic, they will box up lovely sandwiches for you into their lovely boxes and you can take away everything you need. I highly recommend them!
P. C.
I love afternoon tea and well... Mimi's is one of the best (if not the best) in town. Their selection of cakes is fantastic and their sandwiches and teas are perfect. Make sure you try their Red Velvet cake. It is delicious.
One tip: book ahead. Mimi's is quite a popular place and quite busy most of the time.
L. M.
Came here for a spontaneous Sunday lunch. The food choices were great and I went for soup and homemade bread. I loved the decor that was very chic and girly. The place was full and we were lucky to get a table, I will definitely book in future.
I regretted not just going straight for cake as the selection was incredible! My friend took a slice of cake away though. Fab place.
T. B.
Mimi's bakehouse is probably one of the most known an reputed place to have a proper afternoon tea and you know why the first time you get there. People and service are really good and friendly. Although, all the cakes are really good too. I really recommend the classic afternoon tea composed of sandwiches and cakes selection, real cream with scones along with any hot drink of your choice. You can even "upgrade" yourself with a champagne based drink that is delicious!
A. P.
Great breakfast. Service was good too!
A. L.
Summary: A kitschy cake shop and cafe that deserves your attention.
Mimi's Bakehouse is just lovely. Visit and groan when forced to choose between the gorgeous cakes, tasty traybakes, generous cupcakes, and the best High Teas, all served by ever-smiling, ever-busy staff. Taking in the overflowing cake cabinet is worth the visit alone. But it's not all cakes. Mimi's also has an exceptionally tasty breakfast and lunch menu, all prepared with the same love and attention given to the baking.
So, if you are in the area and looking for a treat, you cannot go wrong with Mimi's Bakehouse. Brilliant food, great atmosphere, and all reasonably priced, too. However, be aware, it is often very busy, so booking ahead is advised.
D. M.
I love Mimi's bake house, but I should start this with I love afternoon tea, and Mimi's does this very well!
Mimi's is always busy, so I recommend booking - though you will still have to fight through the queue of mum's and buggies to get to your table!
The decor is cozy and kitsch, the cake selection is fab - but the savoury food options are lovely too, just don't fill yourself up so you miss out on the cake!
I was here to celebrate a friends' engagement and the staff were lovely, couldn't do more to help even though it was busy. All in all, worth a trip to Leith for!
C. A.
Great place to have some good Tea, the scones with the cream were to die for! Super
R. A.
Lovely place for afternoon tea or something more substantial. Delicious tea and coffee, tasty sandwiches and sausage rolls. The coconut chicken was superb. The cakes and scones were very good if a little sweet for my tastes.
S. D.
Excellent afternoon tea! Small criticism on the cakes - which were all delicious - but 3 were all biscuit type base and too similar in texture - would have preferred more variety - the little cupcake was excellent.
N. M.
Amazing gluten free options! They have gluten free bread which can be used in they're French toast/ avocado toast. Portions are generous, staff are friendly, and of course the food is delicious. Will be returning soon!
T. M.
Wife loves this place and it is great, just can't help feeling sick every time I leave cause the cakes are HUGE!!
A. G.
We had the best lunch at mimis! It was a sunny afternoon and the staff were so kind as to arrange for us our own table outside (as we were a group of six). We had a delicious lunch of sandwiches (the open avocado sandwich was definitely a winner) and drinks - as the cocktail menu was too good to turn to down. We didn’t try them as we were too full - but the cakes looked amazing and I will be going back to try their Scottish rocky road (made with Tunnocks and shortbread!!).
L. G.
I went to Mimi's with some friends about a month ago. We each ordered the afternoon tea and were pleasantly full by the end of it. The cakes were absolutely delicious, I just wish we'd had room to try them all!
H. B.
Mimi's cannot be beaten. And there's a lot more to it than meets the eye. When I first went in, I expected coffee and cake but I got so much more. Both their breakfast and lunch menus are well worth a shot. Never a disappointment.
L. O.
I went for the Before noon tea. Which is a breakfast on a three tier cake stand.
I'm veggie so had veggie sausage pudding rolls then cheese scones, yoghurt and granola then a sweet sponge cake to finish. Everything was delicious.
I would have liked to have had the option of a coffee refill without having to pay extra (you can get a tea refill)
It was pretty busy and queues at the door waiting to get in.
E. P.
I love Mimi's Bakehouse! The decor is amazing and the atmosphere is always friendly and relaxed.
I've been for a post Christmas night out brunch and had the most amazing chorizo stovies (hangover curing).
I've also been for Afternoon Tea and have to say it's up there with the best. The cakes are so amazing that you know their afternoon tea will be too! And the champagne option is a great way to celebrate (a birthday in my guess).
S. M.
The perfect place to enjoy a teatime with your friends and family! The place is so popular that it is necessary to book your table at least 2 or 3 days in advance for the weekend.
I went for a cake and tea and also for the teatime (several times). The cakes are always delicious and luscious. If you choose the teatime, think that you won't have diner after that (think savoury sandwishes, cakes and scones with cream and jam).
A great place for a tea and cake!
A. D.
Taken by my daughter for Mothers day. Service first class food delicious. Spotlessly clean highly recommend to my friends.
S. C.
It's all about the cake! And what delicious cake it is too, on our last visit our eyes were bigger than our tummys and thought 3 cakes would be fine to share between 2, but actually 1 was more than enough. Portions are generous and are around £3 for a thick slice or slab of deliciousness. There's also savory breakfasts and meals, afternoon teas, soft drinks and they also serve alcohol. As others say - booking is highly advised.
E. W.
There today for afternoon tea.I required a gluten free menu and was advised was same as normal menu
Was so happy about this as normally you get we can amend something for you
I got my own cake stand with same as my husband and our friend.
Why can't everyone look at the set up here and not treat us as second class citizens.
Loved this and will definitely be back.Even got a carry out with what was left.
S. C.
Mimi's Bakehouse is rather good. The decor is cute without being chintzy, the food is excellent and varied enough to provide something for everyone and the cakes are just fabulous. The tray bakes could induce a sugar coma but they have thought of that and allow for taking their enormous slabs of deliciousness home in beautiful branded baby blue boxes. I really want to try the afternoon tea next as it always looks delicious and indulgent.
D. M.
Famous Edinburgh cafe that is renowned for its cakes and other sweet treats.
Great place for afternoon tea but is always busy so book ahead to avoid disappointment. As it's so busy the service can be over stretched at times.
Maybe a little expensive for cafe prices but it is probably one of the best cafés in Edinburgh so you get your money's worth.
Great place to take family but maybe not the place for a peaceful bite to eat. Large selection of teas and coffees available and lots of freshly prepared tasty options for a bite to eat.
S. R.
The portions were canny and more importantly the quality was up there. There are a lot of cafes within the vicinity and Mimi's is definitely up there 👍🏼
S. S.
We've virtually made a pact at work to have an annual post-Christmas party brunch at Mimi's. This a place that people will drag their hungover selves out of bed and put some clothes on for, and that says a lot. People go to work at other places and still turn up at Mimi's that morning.
I've tried the cakes, rocky road, brownies, meringues, stovies and full Scottish breakfasts and each and every dish/cake/cup of tea has been lovely. The decor is amazing, and it really feels like a special place to go for occasions, or bring any visitors. The service is always great.
If you haven't had their famous french toast (gluten free option available!) with bacon and maple syrup you are missing out. Go, go now.
A. S.
Great service. Walked in at 5 minutes to 12 asked if breakfast was still being served, the waiter replied yes with a big smile, much different from the usual frown you would get from Wetherspoons and the likes.
I had the avacado smash with the Ramsay bacon and a side of scrambled egg. Absolutely deliscious, although the eggs i couldn't finish, a little sickly and recommended to be shared between two people.
Orange juice was freshlt squeezed and refreshing.
Service was great too, no waiting around.
£20 for 2 breakfasts and orange juice, a little steep but you get what you pay for here. 5 stars!
G. M.
Really lovely interior design, with cakes to die for and the best french toast with bacon I have ever tasted. Huge portions and friendly service. The perfect place to spend a lazy afternoon drinking endless pots of tea.
E.
The café shares some of the same qualities as the Tardis, not only does the 1940s decor make it feel like you have travelled back in time but it is much bigger on the inside than you would think.
The cheesecake we had on our visit was amazing, so smooth, not too rich and a buttery biscuit base that would satisfy even Gregg Wallace. Whilst the chocolate cake was tasty (that's right, we had two cakes) and incredibly moist it just couldn’t live up to the standard of the cheesecake.
We really enjoyed our visit to Mimi's and will be back to sample more cakes...I'm also keen to call in to sample the lunch menu as we've heard nothing but praise.
J. H.
We came here as a recommendation from our AirBnB hosts and were not disappointed! The bakes were absolutely delicious and so were the drinks, also have to say we were so impressed by the friendly and warm welcome and service. Would definitely recommend !
B. H.
I love Mimi's!! The food and cakes are ALWAYS amazing. Lovely relaxed atmosphere with really great staff 👍
J. T.
I really had my hopes up after hearing all the positive reviews and seeing the number of awards they boast, however it was rather disappointing to say the least. The food is nothing to shout about and really expensive. The ambience is nice and the cafe is well decorated but the food and price is just not worth it.
C.
I went for afternoon tea with a couple of friends and the afternoon tea itself was lovely. Good selection of food and Id also say good value for money. Unfortunately, the service was quite slow and not very attentive. We had to ask for things twice and we got up to pay the bill so we could leave, otherwise that would have been a long wait to pay at the table.
M. D.
Excellent French Toast and a huge selection of cakes. A bit pricey but arguably worth it. My only real complaint is the racket inside; the noise is absolutely brain-damaging on a Sunday morning, not helped by some of the most shouty music ever recorded.
A. J.
Just had a lovely afternoon tea at Mimi's bakehouse. Excellent service friendly staff. Would highly recommend.
K. W.
Some of the best cake in Edinburgh - their red velvet cheesecake brownies are to die for! They also do excellent breakfasts - but be warned, the portions are on the generous side! If you're looking for somewhere to have a girly hungover brunch whilst you dissect the night before, this is the perfect spot.
J. M.
Amazing afternoon tea, great service and all socially distance and covid requirements met. We also got what we couldn't eat as a takeaway. Just lovely.
K. O.
Sat in a cute pink sofa. Staff were friendly and smily and always came to check up on me. The decor of the place is beautiful and so insta worthy!
I got a chilli with choeizo and it was very nice I enjoyed it. However, it was priced for £12 which I think its very expensive and its not worth that much.
P. M.
I can’t describe how amazing the french toast is, so gutted I won’t be able to come every day lol Highly recommend coming here! The biscoff French toast is Unreal!!! All the staff were friendly and polite! Thank you so much
R. B.
I love Mimi's. From their expansive cake selection to their lunch menu. All the food is top notch and quite reasonably priced. Lovely place to sit and have a coffee or some food. Very comfortable and warm and inviting surroundings.
K. M.
If you like cake, you'll love Mimi's Bakehouse. This family-run business is the perfect place to go for lunch with friends but it's the cake that truly is the main event. If their generous sandwich fillings leave you with little space, you can always get a cupcake to go.
T. J.
Lovely cakes, great decor, friendly staff
S. M.
A really cute little cafe. We had the full vegan breakfast and it was great! They have soya and coconut milk for coffees too. Highly recommend this lovely place!
J. B.
Love the French toast, well worth stopping in for lunch!
J. T.
I avoid Mimi's - which is, in fact, the biggest compliment. The cakes are too good and too pretty, so I aim to avoid temptation. The vegetarian breakfast is also nice.
Cutesy decor which fits in well with the cupcake thing. Sometimes it becomes a parking lot for prams.
R. B.
If you're in Leith and you're ready for lunch, make straight for Mimi's bakehouse. The food is excellent, the service friendly, and the (extensive range of) cakes are second to none.
Be warned, its good qualities are no secret, so it can get busy at times, though I've also been there plenty of times when it's been quiet. Book if you can though, if you can't, it's worth seeing if they have a free table. It's very popular with mother-and-baby groups, so at certain times of week it gets a bit pramtastic. If that's not your thing, don't worry. There are two separate areas of the cafe and they usually do a pretty good job of fitting all the young mums in one half and kiddie-free grown ups in the other half.
E. Y.
Lovely afternoon tea , best scones .
Cake selection abit too sweet.
Sandwiches ok selection .
Free tea refill.
Attentive service .
Very clean and relaxing atmosphere
A. G.
Absolutely beautiful cake. The one thing that would make me go more often is if they had vegan and more gluten free options. That would be a dream come true for me! Please Mimi's create more vegan cakes!!!!
G. C.
Lovely afternoon tea. Lots of sandwiches and fantastic sausage rolls.
A. G.
Mimi's is THE place to go for cake by the shore in Leith. They have an amazing selection of freshly baked cakes and fancies to choose from. My personal favourites are the Oreo chocolate cake and the red velvet cake. They are a little pricey but you get a good slab and you won't feel cheated when you are struggling to eat that last bite of lush, moist cake. It is a good place to go for lunch, though often busy and with it's fair share of yummy mummies and their kids. The coconut chicken is fabulous but be warned their portions are often huge and you might struggle to finish the hotdog. The only reason I wouldn't give this place five stars is they won't allow you to split the bill - c'mon this isn't the 80s, surely they could invest in a till that allows that.
L. D.
Excelent afternoon tea. Highly recomended!
K. S.
The service was very good and staff were very friendly and nice. Food was ok. We have tried egg Benedict, avocado toast with halloumi cheese and eggs and Nutella french toast.
N. A.
Oh. My. God. Cannot recommend this place enough!
Not only is the food here absolutely gorgeous and delicious, but the staff are really friendly and the atmosphere is just perfect.
The French toast with maple syrup and bacon is so irresistible!! It's a must try.
M. d. R.
The food is very good, there is so much choice from aaard winning scones to all sorts of great cakes. We even bought some to take home wit us. If you get the chance to go don't miss out as it worth it.
B. C. S.
It’s all about the cake. That’s what it says over the counter at Mimi’s and that sums up what is rapidly becoming a must-visit place in Leith. In truth, it’s always been a must-visit for me, so it’s good to see the rest of the world catching up, even if I can’t always get a table now! Naturally, the coffee’s great and, as well as a mouth-watering range of cakes, Mimi's does excellent breakfasts and lovely lunches.
Z. P.
At Mimi’s Bakehouse, the burlesque wallpaper hints at the sheer decadence of their cakes – the lemon meringue pie, the chocolate sponge and the Neapolitan cake are all highly recommended. But it's the Mint Aero traybake that has me coming back for more... so much so that I think the waitress can guess my order now as soon as I step through the door! (Oh yes, and they do some pretty good savoury stuff too, such as hearty soups, chunky sandwiches and even hangover-friendly quesadillas... for those who want something a little less sugary for their lunch!)
M.
We were looking forward to coming back for breakfast and we weren't disappointed.
L. Y.
Firm favourite of mine, the before noon tea (available at weekends) is a quirky take on afternoon tea, but in my opinion even better! 5/5 for food. Although the takeaway cakes not quite up to previous visits.
D. S.
Ice been here twice. Both times with the girlfriend. Had high tea birth times and it really is good. Really accommodating if there is anything you don't want they will swap it out for something you do want. If your in leith I highly recommend it.
J.
A brilliant water-side spot for a full Scottish Breakfast and the tongue-in-cheek, camp decor is great. My wife was drawn in by the Oreo cupcake on the way out and whilst sadly none of it came in my direction, I am assured it was also 5 star!
a. a.
Their staff on the stand at the fringe have very poor attitudes. Shame
S. S.
Wow! Breakfast was just amazing! The coffee was great too and the staff were really friendly. So glad we chose to eat here!
L. B.
Had my friend's babyshower here yesterday, the afternoon tea and service were great! They even added baby decorations to all the cakes.... what a nice touch! Would go again!
G. C.
"I feel like I'm in a movie" said my friend who I was having coffee with. It's a great place to meet up. Nice atmosphere. Delicious cakes and great coffee.
C. S.
Lovely place, beautiful views, friendly staff , delicious cupcakes (the red velvet cupcake is extraordinary) definitely one of my new favourite places.
K. F.
Had afternoon tea here and absolutely loved it. Food is divine and beautifully presented, tea is great, staff is attentive and friendly. Well worth it!
A. C.
Amazing place, delicious food :)
P. Y.
Wonderful Afternoon Tea delivered to my home for my birthday. In these difficult times it is great that business are making every effort to replicate their in house service .
Many thanks.
R. K.
Nice café, lovely crumpets, good and friendly service, not expensive
L. C.
As a woman who has been undergoing chemotherapy and surgery for breast cancer and the mother of a profoundly disabled child, my family has been shielding for two months now . Not able to set one foot out of the door- you can imagine my delight when mimi’s sent a box of bakes, as a gift , freshly made and delivered to my door .
I am overwhelmed by the gesture and truly grateful to the mimi’s family
R. J.
Super nice staff and delicious food 👌🏼
A. M.
Nice place for afternoon tea and cakes
W. H.
Brilliant little bakery, great food and great atmosphere. I would highly recommend the prosecco cream tea (make sure you don’t eat much as it’ll fill you up).
D. J.
Sensational french toast!! Waitresses were all lovely - really welcoming. Will be coming back.
J. K.
Great teas and cakes in a nice part of Leith. Quirky, ever-changing selection of cakes to try, and a bustling atmosphere. Not always easy to get parked nearby.
J. M.
It's very good the and breakfast .. very nice location and people who serve me is very nice person :)
T. M.
Really nice place with some fantastic cakes. I had some of their French toast and bacon which was amazing, it was made with thick bread and served with maple syrup.
S. A.
A quaint place by the river! Cute setting, lots of seating, very friendly and helpful staff, and large tasty portions! Would recommend 10/10 :)
G. C.
Friendly staff, warm and cosy atmosphere inside this charming shop. The Scottish Breakfast was generous and tasty.
C. A.
Delicious but cakes a bit tastless and a bit too sweet for my liking and very v expensive. Lovely place as a special treat.
J. Y.
Just can't beat the cake here! They even came out and offered a drink for the dog, excellent customer service and the best high tea in town! Only quibble is no WiFi yet.
D. S.
Fantastic French Toast. Experience well organised and great service. Must return soon to try the other brunch options.
M. N.
Lovely red velvet cookie sandwich
L. S.
Amazing cake selection, and decent savoury menu too. Best to skip a meal before coming as you will want everything on display!
M. S.
Amazing find. Fantastic food, friendly staff. When in Leith this is a must!!!
J. W.
The raspberry and chocolate brownie was delicious and a very welcomed treat after a 8mile cycle.
P. D.
On the banks of Leith's shore Mimi's Bakehouse offers a fine pit stop whilst exploring the historic shore area on Leith,my friend invited me and we arrived with our table reserved, the shabby chic decor gives a french influence i liked the velvet covered sofas and armchairs, even the walls, decorated with women serving cupcakes seemed to entertain my friends toddler as she giggled away we were served by friendly waitresses who took an interest in our third guest,so many waitresses these days ignore toddlers this cafe is definitely child friendly, the number of mothers and toddlers at other tables reinforced this belief, the food comes quickly and is fresh hot and reasonably priced,I enjoyed the red velvet cake and my friend had a goats cheese salad, very much recommended
C. J.
Brilliant cakes, lovely atmosphere, really friendly staff.
I'll definitely be back, can't stay awake from the cheesecakes.
C. R.
Highly recommend Mimi's, despite it being super busy, all staff make you feel welcome and the food is just delightful!
The French toast is life-changing!
M. P.
Lovely service, relaxed afternoon spoiling ourselves with a tasty tea , sandwiches and cakes Tower.
C. W.
Great tea, and fabulous cakes. I recommend the red velvet cake.
S. M.
Fantastic wee cafe with a small but great tasting menu. Give it a try you won't be disappointed.
B. C.
As ever Mimi's was perfection. Two of our company hadn't been before and they were very impressed.

This place is the best for a retro inspired sweet treat leith retreat! Not met a cake in Mimi's I have not liked enough to buy extra to take home!!
K. E.
Had a lovely time here with my kids. Lovely setting friendly staff and great food. What more could you ask for.

A. B. N.
The cutest shop! The staff are so friendly, didn't get a chance to try much but I have to say they have the best scones I've ever had!
S. C.
Were a bit crushed as they seated 3 people around a table for 2. Would absolutely recommend the French toast with maple syrup and bacon.
S. K.
Best French toast with bacon and maple syrup I've devoured. Tea for 2 big enough for a few cups each 🙂
P. B. B.

A. T.
Very very good...... Soup of the day.... Hot cross bun with cream and jam.... The rest will have to wait until next time....
J. v. M.
Everything is great! Just did not get why they places us three at a table hidden in the back while all the tables in the front were free.
E. R.
Took my mum here for afternoon tea for her birthday. Delicious cakes and sandwiches!
G. I.
Such an indulgent place, will need to walk for an hour to work off this cake but OMG it is worth it. Looking forward to the day I plan my wedding cake here xp

The food is very tasty but it can be a bit too rich. Somewhere to go and indulge rather then grab a light snack!

(Translated) We loved it!!!
I give it 5 stars because I can't give it 6!!
I had never had an afternoon tea experience before and I think I couldn't have chosen a better place for the first time.
The decoration of the premises is exquisite, elegant, cheerful and with a pin up touch. Staff of 10!! pleasant, very helpful, but without being overbearing, they explained everything to us and attended to all our requests kindly. The food was all luxurious, the sandwiches and savory delicious and surprising (the salmon deserves a separate chapter by itself), the tray of exquisite cakes, to the point of literally giving me goosebumps with the cupcake from carrot cake, something that had never happened to me. And the best for the end… some delicious, fluffy and appetizing scones accompanied by a clotted cream with an incredibly smooth texture. And of course the tea, in my case an aromatic Earl Gray served in a teapot which, according to what they told us, we could repeat as much as we wanted... I could only have one ;) although it was exquisite.
As for the price… paying €20 per person for everything I've mentioned before doesn't seem expensive at all.
So I recommend it without any doubt, but yes, before going… make a reservation! And make sure you go very hungry!! … although if there is leftover, there will be leftover, they prepare everything for you in a package so beautiful and delicious as not to be out of tune with the rest.
Many thanks to the entire Mimi's team for the delicious afternoon we spent with you. I wish I could repeat.

(Translated) It's a really nice place, except that it's very popular and crowded. After seeing the reviews, I went early in the morning and the staff were friendly, and the scones and tea were so delicious and the best!! You can enjoy the taste of the Old Town branch in a more spacious and comfortable atmosphere. It seems to start to get crowded around 10 o'clock, so I recommend visiting a little earlier.
It is a spacious store to enjoy their fantastic big scones with cuppa. If you take an outside table, you can also enjoy a good view of Leith Shore. You don't worry about their service if you go there in the morning. It got crowded from around 10 AM.

(Translated) Everything you need to enjoy on the terrace or inside a typical Anglo-Saxon tea room experience!
Sweet or savory: everything is to die for, and we understand the place has received several prizes to reward their know-how.
Speaking of prices, they are very decent for Edinburgh, with a budget of £20 for a hearty lunch for two. All in all, a perfect place to explore one of the less touristy but nevertheless charming corners of the city. An experience not to be missed if you are in the area!

Our concierge in central Edinburgh recommended Mimi's for afternoon tea and scones. So we walked the 3 km to Leith. Wednesday afternoon, packed with mothers and their babies. The reception was friendly and we were lucky enough to be able to sit down on a comfortable sofa.
The scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam were delicious. The sandwiches too. I could have done without the middle plate with the other pastries. They were just too heavy and too sweet. The tea far from English ceremony.... If there is any left over, it will be nicely packed in a small box.
The young service seemed unmotivated and unfocused. My tea cup and cutlery were only brought back when I asked again, although they had set the dishes beforehand and the food/tea were already on the table. Unfortunately both cups were dirty and so was the spoon. Were replaced at my request and I almost felt guilty.... Per person this is £17/person. Was OK.
