K. K.My first visit, although my wife and kids had been a lot before for ice creams. After a wander around Portobello we went in for a coffee and cake for the adults and ice creams for the kids. Really lovely selection of ice creams and beautifully baked cakes.
B. D.On the way back from the Portobello Beach to our bus stop we saw somebody eating an ice cream and looked for the source and found Oscar’s Gelato. What a find!!! Great decor, friendly staff but most importantly: excellent ice cream, fantastic cakes and very good coffee. If you don’t stumble across it, go and look for it. Highly recommended.

M. M.An ice cream experience. There is tea, coffee and cakes but really it's all about the ice cream. Really good selection of some of the tastiest ice cream going. Gelato cakes are a must try. I mean cakes made out of ice cream by the slice! Need I say more. Eat in or take away, both options available. Toilets on site. Ground floor so access for wheelchairs not a problem and the seating is well spread out. Service is not light speed but the ice cream is served professionally and is part of the experience so if you are expecting them to quickly slap a couple of scoops in a cone expect dissapointment. It will be served to you with a little more flare than the average ice cream van!

H. C.We had Oscar's gelato four times in the five days we were in Portobello, and I honestly could have come more. Such delicious and varied flavours. I had pistachio, raspberry, Kinder Bueno and peach, orange and saffron on our visits, and couldn't pick my favourite. The sandwiches were also brilliant, and so big! Lovely friendly staff and an excellent vibe. 100% recommend. And if you're on the seafront, they also have a van right on the beach.

I went for a day out with my daughter for lunch and ice cream. The decor is difficult to describe, but the title of this review is my best attempt. On a previous visit, my son said I looked like a billionaire while eating my ice cream cake with a gold fork.
On this visit, I selected the salami focaccia from the glam presentation gallery. The staff offered to toast it, "yes please". What arrived did not live up to my expectations. A stale half toasted focaccia with bitter olive oil drizzled ALL OVER IT. Ice cold cheese that didn't taste right. Freezing, hard and oily salami, and a large stack of icy iceberg lettuce. On the side, some low-fat shop-bought coleslaw.
I can eat almost anything when I'm hungry. But I couldn't manage more than three bites. Thankfully I didn't have to pay for it.
The ice cream, though, it's very, very good, and dogs are welcome.
Mr/Mrs Oscar, I'm a big believer in faking it till you make it. Judging by the number of establishments you have in Portobello, you've clearly made it. So please stop faking it when it comes to the food you serve (other than the ice cream). It's simple! High-quality ingredients, talented and passionate staff and a bit of research into what people actually expect when eating out. I've eaten at all of your places, and I keep my fingers crossed that the food will be good every time. I'm always disappointed.
Please don't make the same mistake with Joppa Rocks and the other one that's in progress.

D. K.This place is incredible!!!! Went to Oscar's twice during our stay in Portobello, first time had the amazing Sicilian Gelato sandwich, which is a large brioche bun filled with scoops of ice-cream of your choice and extras/toppings. Was amazing, and had a coffee with it which was delicious. My partner had the focaccia sandwiches and she said they were delicious (i was too full from the ice-cream sandwich to try hers!). Second time i loaded up a waffle cone with both a salted caramel and a Kinder Bueno flavour gelato and was in heaven. We sat in both times and it was lovely. Go if you're in Portobello, or even if you're looking for ice-cream in Edinburgh, it's worth the trip! They also have a van on the beach we passed while walking about, which will be great on sunny days!
i. m.I had pavlova. The fresh fruit on it was lovely, but the meringue and cream was quite average. Looked good, but too expensive for what it was. 😥
