Reviews of Papii
A.
Amazing. They do only offer walk-ins, but when we got there, only had to wait 15/20 minutes before we were seated and had our order taken. I ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel, and my sister ordered a waffle with Nutella and strawberries. It looked and tasted amazing! We both had a fruit smoothie each (mango and Very berry)
10/10 would recommend. Will definitely be back!!

Went here first thing as a group of 5, that's probably the largest group you can go as and we turned up as they opened to get seats.
We got a range of things, the presentation of the waffles and the different egg dishes was really nice and everything tasted great.
Coffees were also good and service was quite fast for what's a busy brunch spot. There was a queue when we left so I can only assume this place is pretty popular.

This little cafe/deli is a must-try for breakfast/brunch/lunch. Service is super polite and helpful and the food is absolutely delicious!! The waffles are to-die-for and the rest of the menu is very good as well. If you're feeling up for trying something different, I recommend getting the Spanakopita with some scrambled eggs on the side for a scrumptious vegetarian brekkie. (They don't have that as a combo on the menu but it's so so good!). Really good coffee and pastries too. Thumbs up all around - will be coming back for more! 🤤

This place came up as highly recommended for breakfast , it wasn’t wrong.
Quirky little cafe serving really nice food, tasted freshly made, hot drinks were lovely too.
Service was quick and the atmosphere was great !
C. H.
Had a delicious lunch at a very reasonable price! Would come again! Highly recommend the chicken and chorizo wrap!
A. C.
A must recommend place to go for, serving one of the best breakfast in town with their drool some waffles, pastas and sandwiches.
Highly recommend to try waffle and bacon a combination you wont regret 😋

There's something about this place and modern Edinburgh tradition if you know what I mean. The service is warm and gentle and those waffles with bacon, strawberry and maple syrup are simply iconic. The cue outside before it's 9am Sunday opening says a lot.

Wonderful coffee with that smooth non bitter taste, just like the ones we get in Sydney!
Lovely breakfast choices of waffles, paninis, pastries, etc and friendly staff crafting their trade. A nice way to start the day. Did I say they have great coffee...
A. S.
First time visiting this place and wow amazing great food, service was top notch
A. Y.
Actually we wanted to go to the cafe beneath this shop buy it was full but glad we took our break in Papii. Such good coffee and we enjoyed the eggs! Recommended!
M. L.
Great place for breakfast, not to far from the city centre. I'd highly recommend this place for anyone who likes waffles or eggs Benedict.

Papii is a nice cozy breakfast spot. The people working there are extremely polite and tentative to our needs. Their food is AMAZING.
The waffles are cooked to perfection; crunchy outside with a soft flakey interior. Add to that, they are very generous with their toppings.
The egg Benedict was on a toasted English muffin and cooked exactly how you like it. My husband and I shared our dishes, but when it comes to eggs we are the extreme opposites. I like mine to be runny and gooey, but my husband likes them well done and no gooieness to it. They were very accommodating and made it exactly how we ordered it.
The staff is the best around. The first time we visited they kept on apologizing, because we waited for a while before being seated. The second time we visited, we were the first customers. They were very welcoming and remembered us. Since the place was empty when we arrived, they let my son watch them making his waffles, which made our day.

Wait was a bit long, but worth it. The coffee’s great and the waffles are amazing! A nice cozy atmosphere too

Delicious food and kind staff! Arrived at about 10am after being distracted in the Kingdom of Sweets on Princes Street. Had to wait about 20 minutes to be served which wasn't bad. That just meant the food must be good! I got the strawberries and cream waffles with maple syrup. It was delicious and not too sickly! It's not massively expensive either. Will definitely go back when I return to Edinburgh!
Edit: Returned to Edinburgh 11 months later and got the same delicious waffles. My boyfriend tried the eggs benedict. Didn't have to wait outside this time either which was a bonus, I was expecting a wait as I assume it's a popular place from how great the food is! Service and food was great!

The first time I went to Papii was when was up in Edinburgh due to work. I was recommended this place by my work colleagues so I thought I’d give it a go.
The coffee shop was not hard to find and was fairly close to the local retailers. As soon as I went into Papii the lady behind the counter was really friendly, the shop inside was small but rustic, it was really warm and cosy and you could smell the coffee beans in the air.
They do a great selection of food and drinks, from breakfast to hand made waffles, milkshakes, smoothies, soups, teas and great coffee.
I choose to order an espresso, butter milk waffles with strawberries, berry smoothie and bottle of water. As you can see in the picture the food and drink was great, loved it!

We can't say enough about this cafe that is full of delicious food, drink, and kind people. We felt so welcomed when my family of 3 visited in June 2019. My favorite dish was hands-down the Eggs Benedict w/Bacon, my husband loved Eggs Benedict w/Spinach, and our 10yo daughter loved, loved, loved the Waffles topped w/Fresh Strawberries. We always started w/fresh squeezed orange juice and peppermint tea - yummy! We miss Papii Cafe a lot!! We desperately miss being able to travel there at this time. We look forward to visiting when it is safe again.

BUtter milk waffle was very yummy!
Waiter is working very smart.
I definitely wanna come back here !!
V. P.
Great place for lunch/brunch with many options for all tastes! They have also some good lunch deals (soup+sandwich) and some very attractive waffles (which I haven't tried unfortunately but at the next table they looked soooo good!). I have tried the eggs on toast with smoked salmon, delicious!
In general a very nice place with very good food! It's worth a visit :)

BEST WAFFLES IN EDINBURGH
Came here on a Saturday morning the day after valentine's Day at 11am and it was packed with a line out the door! Didn't wanna wait that long so came back to the place around 11:45 and only had to wait about 10 mins to get a table.
The service here is really friendly and accommodating. they really make sure that you are acknowledged and give you a realistic time of when you will get a seat.
I got the recommended waffles with strawberries, bacon and maple syrup and I got to say that these were some of the best waffles I've had. Everything worked so well together. The taste of the strawberries, sweetness of the syrup and saltiness of the bacon all balanced each other out so nicely and nothing was too overpowering.
The waffles were also light and fluffy! I didn't have that lethargy after eating which is a sign of a great meal.
If you get a chance to go here for breakfast, you must do it!
P. B.
Breakfast of champions 🏆 try the waffles with bacon, maple syrup, strawberries and cream. Exquisite teamed with a fresh fruit smoothie.
Small cafe, seating can be a challenge but well worth the wait.
Reasonably priced too considering the quality and location.

Papii is absolutely lovely. I love the vibe there. The waffle and scone are very nice, so is the coffee. I’m here in Edinburgh just for a few days, but I’ll definitely go again before I leave. Highly recommend.

A great place for breakfast in Edinburgh. Great choice of sweet or savoury breakfasts including waffles, bacon and eggs and much more. It was a nice surprise to meet a fellow Aussie who works there. Friendly fast service and tasty food. We had breakfast there several times during our weekly stay. We’ll be back the next time we’re in bonnie Scotland.

Great wee cafe. Lovely coffee, good food and range of drinks. Located city centre of Edinburgh.
I. P.
Pappi is the perfect place for a brunch. Everything looks gorgeous, and the tastes are even better than the looks. Congratulations to the owners!
M. M.
A must-go brunch place! The staff at Papii are so welcoming and kind. The food was served to us quickly and the waffles were so tasty! I also recommend the iced chai. Their menu has a lot to choose from... will definitely come back to try them! :-)
F. S.
I have been to Edinburgh twice and the first time, we just happened to stumble across Papii cafe as we were looking for somewhere to have breakfast. The second time, it was a priority that we came here. The syrup and bacon waffle is incredible, honestly the best waffle I have ever had in my life. The smoothies are amazing too. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the overall atmosphere is lovely. Definitely worth a visit! :)

Stumbled upon this cafe while walking along e street and was attracted to the pretty decor and pastries. Their eggs benedict is excellent. The scones are delightful as well! Staff are friendly, making this little cafe welcoming and cozy.
A. R. R.
Very good breakfast options. The poached eggs are awesome, beautifully satisfying scones, and very tasty hot drinks. I wouldn't recommend the panini though, it was pretty boring.
L. R.
Visited for lunch on our first day in Edinburgh, great little café with friendly staff. Coffee of really good, had gone for an iced latte because of the heat. Food was served quickly and there's a range of sandwiches to chose from. There's a number of choices of waffles to have as well, we hadn't went for them but the table next to us had and they looked good! Definitely recommend to stop by for a drink or quick bite.
B. S.
Incredible little spot which I discovered serendipitously. I was attempting to escape the rain and passed Urban Angel (1 minute) away and they had a 90 minute wait. Unwilling to wait this long I decided to explore other places and was quoted 20 minutes for Sunday brunch (around 11:30) - peak hours everywhere on this street. The venue is a bit small so it is worth bearing in mind if you’re in a large group. Ideal for groups of 2-4 at best.
The waitress took my order promptly - I ordered the very merry berry smoothie, latte and customised my waffles (looks like their specialty) with strawberries and Nutella. I waited less than 5 minutes and was shown my table. The drinks arrived in 2 minutes followed by the waffles.
The cafe had a lot of turnover and the service matched the speed. Overall, I can’t recommend this place enough! The waffles are simply delicious and the smoothie and coffee were both great! All for ~£13.
Food - 5/5
Service - 5/5
Venue - 4/5

It is conveniently located in the central part of the city. It seems quite popular, very limited seating available and tiny tables are too close to each other for comfort. We were first to enter after it was opened almost fifteen minutes after its advertised opening time. Food on display did not seem real fresh, eggs Benedict was pretty ordinary.
T. M.
Excellent café on hanover street, definitely one of my favourites, excellent coffee and great breakfasts. Staff are really friendly. If you're in the area make sure to stop by.
Papii is also where we go for our office bacon rolls and you can't go wrong, nice fully white rolls with generous portions and only £1.80(£2.10 for a doubler)!
J. P. T.
Great place for breakfast or a brunch. If you are coming on weekends, make a reservation or come with enough time. It is a small place with many fans :).
Waffles are just great, they would be perfect though with a bit better whipped cream.
L. M.
Amazing experience here! Food is so amazing and stunning! Staff are friendly. Cafe was very clean. It fills up quickly so it is best to come earlier.

Traveling from the states and was looking for a breakfast spot close to our hotel. This one caught my eye walking by so I decided to stop in. Small and cozy inside with few tables but it was not crowded around 09:00. Staff was friendly and helpful making me feel comfortable and welcomed. I ordered the eggs royal and an Cafe Americano. The quality and flavor of everything was excellent. I will definitely recommend stopping by for a quick delicious meal.
E. K.
The best breakfast place in town! 🐥
A. C.
We had an absolutely scrumptious breakfast, and the staff were exceptional. Quality on all fronts.
R. R.
Really lovely waffles! Staff were super nice as well
R. P.
We had a lovely breakfast! Staff was warm and welcoming! Very quaint with great waffles and espresso!
E. D. S.
Super friendly staff! Nice -simple food :) lovely coffee ....Thank you!! ❤️ 🙃
M. R.
Small and seemingly always crowded place, but I can understand why. It takes some time to comprehend the huge menu painted on the blackboard with chalk, but whatever we ordered was great. The smoothie was delicious and seemed to consist only of berries, the coffee was good (even though the americano did contain a little too much water for my taste), the cappuccino however was brilliant. Eggs benedict were just brilliant. A nice touch were the recycled napkins and the paper straws, together with the steel cuttlery a first step towards increased sustainability. Great breakfast place.
H. S.
Highly recommend! Today's visit was not my first - and it won't be my last. Reasonably priced with great staff. It is a very small place and does not accept bookings so be prepared to queue at peak times. It is worth the wait.
C. W.
Cute little cafe. Went in for breakfast and ended up going every morning for the rest of our stay in Edinburgh. Food is lovely: waffles, eggs Benedict were our favourite.
It did get quite busy in mornings but we still managed just about get a seat in.
I'm fussy when it comes to breakfast away from home but I was the one that wanted to go back each morning!
Staff are lovely too
N. R.
Amazing food, drinks and staff. So worth the wait in the freezing weather
I. W.
Beautiful little place for breakfast. The smoothies are really good and come in good size. The food was also great. Cute little place decorated by doors and some art. A little bit small, though. But I'm just a big person.
T. J.
Waffles were extraordinary! Best breakfast we had in all of our two weeks in Europe. Strawberries were so fresh and bacon was cooked perfectly. Not to mention the price was extremely affordable. Would HIGHLY recommend.
C. Y.
I'm a coffee aficionado and this place serves great coffee. food is pricey but standard in Edinburgh. seating is limited but cosy. if its sunny you can always takeout and head to st George sq
H. C.
Amazing food with affordable price. Indeed one of the best so far for my UK trip! Worth the wait. We came for breakfast and it turned out to be our brunch!
R. N.
Great place!
Cozy atmosphere. Not to forget the friendly and inviting staff.
Fantastic cappuccino and superb Eggs Benedicte.
Highly recomended!
R. C.
Great Cappuccino, waffles are awesome and the eggs benedict had crispy bacon! Woo-hoo! Small place with seating for 16 people max. Great staff.
Last day in Edinburgh and made it a great breakfast.
N. G.
Coffee is great! Food is lovely as well, eggs benedict with bacon were good just think that with ham are better. Staff is young and attentive but no spark of passion just good. Very happy overall!
U. C.
A wonderful little place right in the middle of the new town just a few steps from princes street. Broad breakfast choice. High quality food, tasty smoothies, reasonable prices. We loved it!
N. S.
Excellent brunch place. I've been to tons of brunch places (in the NY, Philly, DC, London, Copenhagen, Berlin, Amsterdam, etc), and the eggs royals / florentine we had here were probably some of the best I've ever had. (That said, they have a pretty classic brunch menu so if you're looking for something a bit different look elsewhere). Coffee was really, really good as well (they have nice beans and a good machine). Cool vibe. The place is a little gem.
A. C.
Good breakfast options to choose from, both savory and sweet. The place is small so if you're going for breakfast, try to be there by 9:30. Friendly staff and food is served quickly.
A. G.
Lovely place for a spot of brunch. The coffee had a lovely aroma to it and not bitter.
Buttermilk waffles are some of the best my boyfriend has had and that's high praise coming from him.
A. A.
Good looking and tasty food! Lovely staff! Small and cozy place for brunch ^^
J. H.
This is an amazing beeakfast spot with excellent food and coffees. We had a lovely seat facing the street. Note: it is very small and there may be a wait.
C. B.
Loved this little cafe, food was fantastic quality and service was great. Thank you. X
K. T.
Highly recommended. The coffee was good and the waffles was satisfying. Cosy place with good ambiance and friendly staff. Well priced. Would revisit.
N. M.
waffles were excellent, perfect breakfast/brunch place. berry smoothie was also very tasty
P. H.
The Breakfast here was really good, we had Paninis which were delicious, the other food looked really good as well.
The place is tiny though, only arround ten small tables, so you need a bit of luck to find a place.
S. D.
Ahh one of fav places for brunching. Whatever you will take, it tastes great. Coffee is lovely. Eggs are 'eggcellent'. Waffles are lovely. And smoothies pretty good too. However on the down side, it is pretty small with not the most comfortable seating. Also, it is always busy. And why wouldn't it be with such a great food!
R. D.
Personally the best buttermilk waffles! Although at first I was skeptical about the bacon, maple syrup, strawberries & cream combo. I didn’t know they go so well together! Sweet, salty, crispy but soft waffles. Not to mention their hot chocolate with marshmallows would satisfy one’s sweet tooth after walking all day.
Location-wise, it is approximately 15 mins. away from the Edinburgh Castle.
PS. The store is a bit small so at peak times, you’d have to wait about 20 mins. before getting a seat inside
A. 8.
Visiting Edinburgh..well.. this Cafe was the best part of our visit .definitely best breakfast I've had in my life. No exaturation!! And smoothies!? Wow
C. F.
A perfect place to start your day with pancakes for breakfast, excellent coffee, very friendly staff. Good job, guys! 🤘🏻
E. R.
Amazing food and super cute cafe! Wish I lived closer as would visit regularly!
M. T.
Very impressed with this small but incredible cafe. Menu has many breakfast options, waffles, soups, sandwiches, pastries. I had the best eggs Benedict of my life and fresh squeezed orange juice. I wish I could take this cafe home with me.
P. G. F.
Good service, food was delicious. I will come back definitely ✨
It is very small and it was crowded on a Saturday morning.
C. V.
A cute little place for breakfast or lunch. I ordered the bacon, strawberry, cream waffle which was delicious. There were two more people in my party, one also ordered the same waffles and the other got the Eggs Pappi Royal (eggs Benedict with salmon). Both were also happy with their meals. Suggestions for improvement: more toppings on the waffles, I thought the strawberries were especially sparse. And plate the Eggs Pappi with something else too such as a bed of greens.
S. S.
Solid - hipster coffee, nice interior design, good food, slightly inflexible when we asked to mix eggs benedict and florentine but otherwise fine. All round good experience without anything standing out positively or negatively. But I did love their sugar pots :)
K. J.
All you need for Sunday breakfast. Delicious eggs benedict/ eggs royale (with salmon) and good English tea. Full from early morning. Highly recommend.
C. H. W.
Amazing place to have brunch!
If you are going on a weekend expect some queue.
R. L.
It is a very small place, however the quality of the food is simply amazing. Don't miss the best breakfast at Edinburgh .
J.
We ordered Benedict bacon and waffles. Both of them are nicely made and tasty. I especially like the cream and syrup which goes perfectly with the waffles, yet not too sweet.
The cafe interior is small and cute. I like their beautifully designed menu on the big blackboard.
A drawback for me is the portion not at all enough for a proper meal. (Especially with the price not being very low) I would recommend to someone who is not expecting a full meal (or simply doesn’t eat much), but is looking for a nice place to chill with a small group of friends.
N. T.
Eggs florentine were really excellent, the yolks were silky and rich, the spinach not too moist and well seasoned. Wish i has taken a photo before eating half of them! Great place to escape the snow!
T. L.
Definitely a go to place if you're in Edinburgh!
It is only a small place probably only fitting in around a dozen people but if you do get in you won't regret it 😍
b. o.
I love this place. Small but really cute. Lovely service and delicious food. My favourite pancakes and bacon😊 really nice atmosphere.
n. m.
The breakfast was really nice and the food quality was good.
The local was pretty small and not all tables are comfortable to eat on.
M. M.
Well y'know this place is Instagram famous when there are people queuing out of the door at 10am on a sunny Sunday morning in March!
Well worth the wait - I had the eggs royale, and my companions went deep on Papii's famous waffle stacks. They assured me the sugar high and subsequent crash was worth it, and my eggs were poached to perfection too.
The coffee is excellent, and the baked good to take away also went down a treat when visiting family later in the day, too.
All in all a cracking café with a well deserved reputation, with a great ambiance and perfect location for all of your breakfast, brunch and lunch hipster-ing needs!
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The waffles were so good! Lovely atmosphere and the staff were really friendly.

Great sandwiches, good coffee, nice service and a very cute place, lovely atmosphere. I would definitely come back!

Came here for breakfast and got a great eggs Benedict, eggs perfectly cooked.
The lass got a croissant with jam and butter which she said was lovely.
If we were spending longer in edinburgh I would’ve definitely returned
N. A. F.
Loved their chai latte it’s so yummy and sweet also the waffle it was fluffy and it’s melt in your mouth,,one thing that I don’t like it’s always crowded and sometimes they’re slow when they serve the food
T. S.
The food is great (a bit pricy) and the service is good. A small place so sometimes there is a queue. Only complaint is that music is awful...It does not go with a cafe place at all. Very loud...
c. C.
A great place to go for breakfast. Nice atmosphere and good attentive staff. Great coffee and food is delicious.
E. T.
Yummy, well executed breakfasts (we had waffles which were light and fluffy and eggs Benedict with homemade hollandaise 😋) and excellent coffee A+++. Seems family run? Lovely all round.
S. N.
Good coffee, cute small place
E. U.
Papii is an amazing place. The menu is comprehensive enough without being too long and highly visible on the board. there is no fuss about the place but it is super friendly and the service is impeccable.
The food is consistently excellent and so is it coffee.
Give it a go!
B. B.
Great cafe. Highly recommend. Nice coffees, brunch and cake selections. Great vegetarian options as well.
E. D.
Amazing breakfast, won't be going anywhere else for breakfast when we are in Edinburgh. Hidden gem!
S. M.
Great cafe for breakfast and brunch. We tried waffles, eggs benedict, and a pasta bake special. All delish!

I had brunch in this place during a holiday weekend in Edinburgh, what a great find! Amazing waffles and great coffee, definitely it’s worth the indulgence and the visit.

A lovely, clean little cafe with sweet servers. We arrived early and it was already quite popular, but we received our food within 20 minutes. Definitely a new favourite!

Beautiful food and absaloulty lovely staff!
There only down side is size and they occasionally get muddled up but the food is so worth it!
R. R.
Great little place, very cosy, amazing tea, I would definitely recommend
A. G.
Fantastic little cafe, excellent food, service and great value. So good, we came back for breakfast the next day and didn't even consider anywhere else!
A. H.
Liked the food, but a bit of salad with the panini would have been nice.
K. E.
We had super tasty waffles (banana/cream and strawberries/cream) and a latte/mocha. Staff were very friendly and the portion size was generous. Lucky enough to get a seat outside, we were able to enjoy the late autumn sun and people watch. Recommended!
M.
Great place to eat with very friendly staff! Amazing atmosphere!
J. N. C.
Delicious food. We had Benedict and Royalty eggs (with bacon and salmon respectively) and both were very good. They have also a very good coffee. We also tried the waffles with strawberry and Nutella and were very tasty but a bit expensive. The price for the rest of the food, and the coffee is reasonable considering the area.
P. D.
I can only speak about the breakfast - we went for breakfast Saturday and enjoyed it so much we returned on Sunday! I had the full breakfast with the tastiest sausage and bacon I've ever eaten. My wife had a lovely omelette day 1, then American-style pancakes with blueberries day 2 - loved it all. Good service too.
R. G.
Wonderful food at fantastic prices. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
K. V.
Cute little breakfast spot. Quite busy, but turnover is pretty quick. Waffles were fantastic.
A. A.
Good food 😋 chai latte was amazing. Took the banana waffles.. a bit too sweet for me, but I guess I should have taken something savory. However, the waffles were soft on the inside and a little crunchy outside- cooked to perfection.
P. G.
Very nice food, gorgeous place, good attention to details, friendly staff and wonderful thanks
A. B.
Went there on Sunday morning and it was very busy. But the food was delicious and staff lovely
Z. H.
Tasty waffles and eggs muffins. Large portion of waffles too!
M. F.
Amazing waffles, eggs benedict and breakfast panini in this small, independent cafe

Best eggs Benedict I’ve had in a long time!
F. P.
The best pancakes I’ve ever had! 😋

Rarely do I feel inclined to leave reviews, but Papii was so good. In the last day of my visit to Edinburgh, me and a good friend found Papii through great reviews online and we were not disappointed. The guys who served us were welcoming and happy to talk. The food was great and reasonably priced. The place was clean, well-lit and pretty. I will be returning if and when I get the chance.
V. M.
The number one place for waffles! I had them with fresh strawberries and they truly were the freshest. The waffles were fenomenal, so tasty, such a treat! The cappuccino was really good too!!! The staff was great, friendly, quick and polite!
h.
Lovely atmosphere, excellent tea and pastries, fantastic service.
O. K.
I had a great tuna wrap with salad. I’m very satisfied with their food. I’d come back here again. Thank you for providing us good food.
A. K.
Brilliant salivating breakfasts which create an obsession for you to wanting to go back again and again!
J. C.
Really nice coffee and friendly staff. Interior is really nice but small so I can imagine it would be difficult to get a seat when busy.
A. R.
Great lunch/coffee spot. Friendly staff and good meal deal. Cakes very impressive 😃
J. K.
Small, cozy place. Stunning eggs Benedict served with a smile.
c. s.
Yummy waffles and egg Benedicts! coffee was great with some very good quality latte art! awesome guys!!! thank you x
J. F.
Great place to have breakfast. Went there for breakfast for the 2 mornings I was in Edinburgh. Very reasonably priced, and the food was spectacular. Love the waffles. The owner was very friendly. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a good hearty breakfast, great coffee, and a warm ambience for a chat.
C. M.
Limited seating. Great waffles, fantastic smoothies, although they're a bit expensive. The staff were really nice, and food came out quickly. We were there for brunch, but they had good lunch deals during the week.
J. A.
BEST WAFFLES EVER!
The waffles are so light they’re very enjoyable and tasty!!! Would definitely recommend
F. P.
Small but friendly cafe. Clean eating surfaces and chairs. Papii takes good COVID-19 measures for the benefit of all. Great variety on the menu and good service.
The downsides? No WiFi. However, 4G receoption is good and the absense of WiFi is not a rarity in historic, thick walled properties in UNESCO World Heritage site properties, such as the New Town where you will find this cafe.
Thoroughly recommended for lunchtimes.
Special tip? I enjoyed two excellent hot chocolates. I can only assume their teas and coffees are equally fantastic! My cajun pasta dish was well proportioned and very tasty.
M. W.
Very nice place! The staff was nice and helpful, and their service impeccable. We had tea/cappuccino and scones with raisins, which were quite tasty. I'm quite picky with my coffee, but this was not bad. Music was good too. It's a fairly small place, so it can easily get crowded.

Don't understand the hype to be honest. The food is decent don't get me wrong and the coffee is above average but not outstanding, but the amount of rave reviews declaring it's the best breakfast cafe in Edinburgh baffles me.
The waffles were nice, generously large and lots of maple syrup used which is always a good thing. But waffles are fairly difficult to get wrong, pancakes on the other hand is a fine art I find.
The eggs Benedict was decent but nothing special and the latte wasn't nice, bitter in fact but my cappuccino was smooth but not brilliant.
Not worth queuing for this tiny cafe. ignore the hype
Would award it 3 stars but felt that was a bit too harsh.

Amazing food and lovely staff. Just a little place but if go back to they other stuff
A. J.
Best breakfast place in Edinburgh IMO!
V.
Best scones I’ve eaten so far! Coffee was really good too.
O. O.
Absolutely excellent place for breakfast
L. M.
I visited this place for breakfast on Monday 13th. January 2020 around 8:40am. Place was clean, order was taken on the till and paid for and then it was served at the table. I had eggs royals and a cappuccino and the combination was perfect. The cappuccino was served to a temperature that would not have burned the tongue, and tge quality of the coffee was great. And the eggs royal were tasting deliciously good, I could not find any fault whatsoever, however a little piece of suggestion , and that’s my personal opinion, I would have loved to see some garnishment/decoration in my eggs royal plate. I will definitely go back there again and I suggest this beautiful place if you really want to have some good food.
A. N.
It's The best place in Edynburg for breakfast!!
M. S.
Some of the best waffles I've had
M. B.
Very nice cafe, lovely food and super friendly staff!
D. V.
Really attentive and helpful staff, very kind. Delicious food and a cosy, easy atmosphere, we very much enjoyed breakfast there, thank you!
M. A.
Absolutely lovely little cafe! All day breakfast foods (except breakfast rolls and eggs, which are served till 11.30 on weekdays), with a variety of eggs, paninis and croissants, bagels, waffles! The staff is super friendly but the place is small and busy, expect a wait, or, if you're in a big group, to split up across tables. Reasonably priced.
B. S. (.
This little Caffè place serves real emazing food the benedict eggs or waffles were like art. It was the breakfast I will never forget .
I. K.
Friendly and welcoming staff. Nice interior. Very very good food and smoothie. We had the breakfast panini (bacon and boiled egg), it was very tasty. I can also recommend the Summer Breeze smoothie. Definitely a good place for a nice and relaxing breakfast. Must try the waffles next time!
R. B.
Cute cafe in the midst of new town! Had a lovely (large!) pastry and coffee by the window seat.
N. F.
Great service, amazing food, well recommended.
C. B.
Great service. Great food. Went above and beyond. Would definitely come back next time in Edinburgh!
J. L.
What can I say? Just amazing ! Go and check yourself 😉👍🏻
T. R.
Another of the top voted restaurants for breakfast in Edinburgh.
K. B.
Adorable, delicious, and great service! It's a very small space, really only suited for parties of 4 or less. Expect a wait, but it's worth it. The banana and honey waffles were delicious.
R. M.
Such a cute and cosy place! Very small but that wasn’t a problem. Had a late lunch here after a busy day in the cold city. Went for the tomato and chilli soup which was lovely and they made a cheese pesto and salad baguette that wasn’t on the menu at my request! Really enjoyed the food and service was great. Would come back again maybe for something sweet!
G. q.
Great breakfast place to stop.
Tasty coffee and food and lovely people
S. T.
Most delicious eggs Benedict I've ever eaten! It's a little place so make sure you have plenty of time when you arrive because it's worth the wait!
P. H.
Great, friendly service. Good, healthy food (especially breakfast) great location between the two art museums (National gallery & National Portrait gallery) casual but comfortable seating & a general sense that the staff genuinely care about your enjoying your time with them. Charlotte impressed me with her uncanny ability to remember everyone's orders, foibles & preferences even across long absence! For my taste, the best breakfast spot in Edinburgh.
C. F.
Great coffee... oh yeah and the breakfast waffle was outstanding.
R. M.
This is a hidden little gem and would highly reccomend. The food was absolute delish. The waffles were out of this world. We were lucky to get a table straight away i t got busy and there was a queue out the door which is always a good sign :)
R. Z.
Had a coffee and a weel prepared and presented eggs benedict this morning ( dont have a pic of them though)
O. M.
Absolutely amazing coffee. Great atmosphere. Lovely staff.
J.
Absolutely loved my experience here. The staff was warm and welcoming. The food was just the best. Their Eggs Benedict and Strawberry waffles are a must try.
R. S.
The coffee was very good, better than Costa or even Starbucks. I ordered a latte, it was thick and I loved it. The eggs with spinach was really delicious, but the eggs with salmon was average. The brownies were super!
Z. M.
Went on a Friday morning, the staff was lovely but way in over their heads with the "crowd".
We asked for water 3 times and never got it, our simple order took 20 mins to arrive, with "cream on the side" being... on the side of the plate and not in a separate pot.
Everyone one told me to go to Papii for their waffles and must say... I don't see what the fuss is about.
It sure is served generously but it's not much else than a lot of sugar on top of sugar... same for the Macha latte. Everything is extremely sweet and it kills most the flavour. Might be nicer if u happen yo come in at a less busy time but I personally was not wowed by the experience.
J. L.
Came back two days in a row because it was that good. The service was excellent, coffee fantastic and the waffles even better! What made it even better was the fact the staff remembered us and our order. All in all a fantastic experience.
M. C.
Cute little Cafe! Amazing food, great vibes/music, and super friendly staff!
V. F.
I've come across the Google search for this really cute cafe. I was welcomed warmly and super nice. There is good coffee with decent latte art. I got a good breakfast recommendation, the smoked salomon + cream cheese bagel. delicious! The cafe is famous for its waffle combinations. Should be tasted. What a good start at the weekend in Edinburgh.
thx guys :)
C. W.
Ordered the Eggs Benedict and I have to say it is delicious, though their coffee is a little acidic to my liking. I do think the staffs could've been friendlier but overall 4/5.
A. L.
Great breakfast. Small place so get there early if you want a seat. Waffles looked amazing but we all had the eggs Benedict.
T. B.
REALLY delicious waffles! Would 100% recommend going here. It's super small but really cute, and all the staff are so lovely!
K.
Came back for the second time in two days because of the great environment and excellent service. The staff are incredibly friendly and the brunch is delicious. Definitely save room for a Nutella croissant!
T. P.
Excellent little cafe serving breakfast all day. Great waffles, pastries, egg Benedict, and coffee drinks. A bit crowded and staff a little over worked but service was still relatively quick.
G. T.
I had been wanting to go for a while but it is always really packed which was putting my partner off. We finally made it for brunch and had a great time! I am half-ashamed to admit I am the worst customer, take ages to choose and sometimes change tables if I don't feel comfortable sitting somewhere, which was the case at Papii as well, but instead of giving me a frown, the lady gave me space which definitely contributed to our overall positice experience. The food was brilliant, eggs Benedict were spot on, and my partner enjoyed his paninis! Papii is a lovely wee spot which deserves its fame
A. G.
LOVE this place! The raspberry white chocolate scone with jam and clotted cream was so heavenly. We're here one more day and I am definitely going back tomorrow for food for the road!
C. N.
Awesome bacon and maple syrup waffles
Z. T.
We have taken Benedict eggs and waffle, which were perfect! The only negative point is that the outside seating have pretty small tables and we were given plastic fork and knifes which made it hard to eat.
O. S.
Can’t recommend enough! Great service, great value for money, great music! Will be returning
O. N.
Small cafe, we got there about 20 mins after opening and managed to get a table. Several others after us had to wait a while. But the food and service is great!! Highly recommend the eggs Benedict. Very delicious and filling!
A. P.
Do try their scones! Coffees weren't mind blowing but maybe our expectations were a tad too high. A happy lunch nonetheless. Wish they hadn't run out of strawberry waffles.
E. C.
Other rrviews might mention the small number of tables and having to wait to be seated, but despite us having a few minutes wait, we were in and out in half an hour having eaten breakfast without being rushed. Lovely food and nice coffee.
J. W.
Excellent coffee, fantastic staff, friendly and fast service, amazing coffee machine, delicious eggs Florentine and bacon roll. This little cafe surprised us despite the great reviews, a perfect place to start your morning in Edinburgh.
D. M.
I've enjoyed their eggs benedict on a few occasions and they were always delicious. Enjoyed a nice coffee too listening to their eclectic music on a chilled Saturday afternoon. Friendly staff too.
D. L. F. M.
I usually carefully choose my restaurants from TripAdvisor before actually deciding where to eat when I travel...this time however I had no battery and was very hungry...what a find!
The decor and ambiance of this restaurant alone won me over. What an incredibly decorated restaurant. I felt like I was in a movie set in an Mediterranean or Arabic country. From the furniture to the silverware, everything was authentic.
Service was very very good, once again having had a later lunch as I usually do, the restaurant was a bit empty and so we had all the attention! We ordered a wide variety of dishes both Lebanese and Morrocan, that were absolutely incredible. So much flavor in everything! The Lamb was just on point.
Great lunch experience...unfortunately the shisha tables outside were all taken so we couldn't get the whole experience but I definitely recommend this restaurant we simply stumbled upon.
A. K.
Good selection of bagels, sandwiches. Perfect place for a brunch. The smoked salmon bagel is a must try! Delicious cakes and waffles too!
A. S.
Generally quite busy at breakfast time. Nice coffee. Lovely waffles with bacon and maple syrup. Good breakfast panini. Never disappointed here.
S. E.
i very like this place, breakfrst is very yummy
j. b.
Great wee place for brunch..though can be busy. Coffee and smoothie are good. Eggs Florentine and bacon waffle stack with strawberries and cream. Both great.
J. A.
Got the Banana, Cream and Honey Waffles. Very light and melts in each bite.
M.
The coffee is nice and clean...good food and coffee
K. W.
We had eggs royal and a salmon and cheese bagel and two coffees. All really nice and in a lovely little cosy environment. Had to wait a couple of minutes for a table but it was well worth it
C. S.
Very nice place, with friendly service and good product quality.
A. A.
Amazing food and really nice staff! One of the best places to have breakfast in the area! Strongly recommend this cafe. Well done to the owners. Bravo.
C. I.
Delicious! I had a creamy soya cappuccino and a slice of pistachio gluten free cake that was very yummy. You can feel the pistachios and it's very soft! I love it!!! I really appreciated the attention for the intolerances.
D. O.
The food was really tasty! We went there for brunch, and wanted to come back for lunch... they have great sandwiches... very cozy! Staff was great
A. C.
Waffles are amazi g and coffee is tasty, it's always packed so hard to get a table and the place itself is tiny I recommend never going for the breakfast sandwiches they were so disgusting and disappointing its enough to put you off
H. O.
Came here on a Sunday morning and luckily didn't have to wait too long for a table, the waffles and the eggs Benedict ARE DELICIOUS! Best brekkie I've had in a long time! 👌🏽
D. M.
Small and cozy... Great food
K. S.
Delicious food, friendly staff, cute interior and huge portion sizes! I recommend the Bacon & Maple Syrup waffles and the Nutella croissant - So yummy!
h. m.
Great for breakfast, good for lunch. Small menu but good quality throughout. Staff are really nice even under pressure at peak times. Only downside is the payment isn't done at the table so you need to queue twice if sitting in, once to get your order then again to pay.
D. M.
Great wee Greek cafe in the city centre that comes highly recommended.
Not that much selection on offer and very few seats available in the cafe but that is the only minor criticisms as the food was excellent, all freshly prepared and at a very affordable prices.
Also a lot of different dishes available that you won't find in your standard café.
J. M.
Great coffee and food for great value in the city centre. Prefect for locals not wanting to pay the George Street markup.
A. J.
Good breakfasts at reasonable prices and a decent amount of seating available. Nicely out of the way as it's in a basement room, but still with some natural light flooding in. Didn't get a chance to try the sandwiches but the menu on offer looks very impressive.
J. J.
Fab little place only discovered through Google reviews. Food was good (waffles), coffee was very good. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Will return as soon as i can.
Z. S.
The waffle is so nice.
H. M.
Fantastic coffee, great eggs, fast service.
S. R.
Lovely eggs benedict and waffles, also great service
A. W.
Working round the corner, this is one of my go-tos for lunch. Their aubergine and halloumi panini is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had the pleasure of eating. I know a number of my colleagues feel the same emotional attachment to this combo.Seriously. Its awesome.
Banging morning bacon rolls, good coffee, everything tastes really fresh and the staff are really warm and friendly, just like the sunny interior decor. Honestly, with places like this, why would you ever go to Subway??!!
E. N.
I wanted to take a picture of the delicious waffles and eggs Benedict we ordered but then I blacked out and when I woke up we had eaten them all. A little small and cozy but worth the wait!
N. M.
Amazing coffee - extraction is phenomenal on the hand press- in laid back setting. Varied menu with locally sourced ingredients delivering bags of goodness. Highly recommended!
R. A.
Beautiful lil cafe , amazing food. Egg Florentine and Benedict were beautiful and so was the panini with pesto. The waffles were too tempting
C. W.
Waffles so good you'll come back for lunch, and great tea too. It was so busy when we were there that it was a little claustrophobic, though. Try to get there early!
T. B.
Really lovely maple and bacon waffles, I had an iced mocha with it and it was one of the best I've ever had
K. H.
Waffles with bacon and maple syrup. Great. Good service. Good coffee. Lovely staff. Thanks.
C. D.
Didnt impress or let down... neutral.
Shortbread could have been better
C. M.
The best Waffles in Town, add extra bacon and really good Muesli breakfast. We also received really great advice on which other restaurants/bars would good in the area.
S. R.
Lovely delicious brunch.
S. S.
Gorgeous toasted halloumi sandwich & excellent coffee. V good value
D.
Good food and coffee. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
H. B.
Really good food and drinks, very good value for money. Both the smoothies and waffles are really tasty. Perfect place for brunch
S. F.
A cosy little cafe hidden beyond george street, being a coffee fanatic i can say without a doubt that the coffee is wonderful here, they really take the time to make the cappicinos look amazing with the foam art. Besides lovely coffee, the foods have a huge mix from Mediterranean salads and intriguing looking tarts and quiches to very nice smoothies which are served in a jam jar, really gives a fun effect :p With the friendly staff and warm atmosphere, this is the place for a little break of lunch.
J. L.
Try the waffles!! Also absolutely great coffee. To be noted that it's always busy so the service is a bit tight and there's no wifi. Nice place for friends meeting.
A. C.
The brunch is very good!! The waffle and egg are very good cook! But you have to wait to be serve because it's always full
A. L.
Best millionaire's shortbread I've ever had. A really tasty lunch too with good use of dressing and salad to bring out the flavour of their savory items
B. M.
I write this review a mere 30 seconds after taking my final mouthful of eggs Benny.
These eggs Benny are the Benedict Cumberbatch of Sunday morning breakfast food.
Coffee was served a little under heat. Tasty all the same.
D.
Papii is a wonderful cafe. The meals are very delicious and the cappuccino is awesome. The service is very friend. You has to be there if you are in Edinburgh.
R. M.
Had eggs royal and chai latte. Their Americans was too strong for me . Nice place . Book ahead because the place is small and always packed and you might not get a seat.
R.
Amazing egg royals, one of the best i have ever had and for a very reasonnable price! Welcoming staff as well. I will go back next time I visit Edinburgh :)
D. B.
Carry out just as it closed with seating behind scrubs allow you to watch the world go by
V. Č.
Perfect stuff, lovely place
J. T.
Lovely food every time I went
J. H.
Excellent!
S. M.
Excellent breakfast good value will definitely return 👌
J. W.
Light and fluffy waffles, and surprisingly cheap (coming from London i suppose anything would be in comparison). Try the breakfast panini which is super good value!
J. P.
Tasty food and cosy atmosphere, perfect spot for quick breakfast or small snack during the day. Raspberry cone was delicious. Eggs benedict with salmon or bacon were decent. It gets busy in the mornings. Coffee: ~2£, breakfast ~7£. I recommend.
C. M.
The food was so good. The staff were friendly and it was so busy, a great sign in my eyes. Wish I lived closer so I could go again, although my waistline is probably glad that I don't.
M. E.
Best waffles I’ve ever had!!! I had the strawberry. Only complaint is that the space is quite small so the wait was long.
M. M.
Handy for a lunchtime snack. Personally recommend the salami and mozzarella panini! Good home baked treats aswell. Try the millionaire shortbread or brownie.
M. M.
Personally i think they are overpriced. Royale eggs is small and ntg much fancy.
A. L.
Really nice spot, quite small, lots of choice The eggs benedict were really nice only "negative point is that today they didn't have any ice or smoothies in such a hot day
G. G.
Inexpensive, delicious food. The coffee is very good, and the breakfast was great. Hard to get a seat, but they also offer takeaway.
S. G.
Nice restaurant to start your day with.. Good location, staff, food and coffee!!
A. D.
Nice cosy cafe with varied options of breakfast, brunch, lunch and amazing refreshing smoothies. The staff is really nice and the food feels fresh and homemade.
D. C. A.
Cozy and warm place with amazing waffles. Great and caring service and amazing music. I would recommend it
E. A.
Lovely place. The waffles were amazing and the freshly baked scones a must have with your coffee
K. H.
Good food, limited menu options but lovely home baked bread, it is a really small place but we were there nice and early - there was a bit of a queue developing by the time we left.
G. B.
Small but friendly. Really good coffee and great breakfast. Very popular so there may be a wait.
M. L.
Popped in here for brekkie. Delicious eggs Benny but they're served on English muffins which went soggy. Hollandaise sauce was spot on!
J. G.
This could well have been the best breakfast place I've ever been to. Excellent food and outstanding service - try it if you're ever in the neighborhood :)
D. B.
Best breakfast in Edinburgh. Delicious sourdough bread and waffles with crunchy bacon and maple syrup
S. g.

S. H. (.
Great place and breakfast to start the day. Waffles are excellent and staff very nice.
K. D.
The chocolate party wasn’t fresh, the granola was very good but too small. The coffee was great.
A. D.
I don't normally leave reviews, but wow. Fantastic food, decent coffee, reasonably priced, friendly staff, good location, and not completely packed.
F. H.
Tasty breakfasts and great coffee. Plus we didn't feel rushed once despite the fact there was clearly a small queue of people waiting for tables.
K. D.
The coffee was lovely.....quite a small place but wished we had eaten here as the breakfasts coming out looked lovely....
J. S.
Tiny, crowded but with nice food.
M. B.
Can't fault this place. All locally sourced, freshly made cakes and bakes and all devilishly delectable. ❤👌🏽
A. C.
No decaffeinated coffee, staff a bit abrasive and a bit of a shabby, cold place. Cakes are nice and atmosphere busy, but I won't be returning - not a place to relax.
J.
Well crafted sandwiches and good quality teas. Fairly reasonable prices for Edinburgh too.
Always busy with good reason.
C. F.
This place does amazing eggs, coffee and pastries... it has a great atmosphere however it is very small so it can fill up fast
S. D.
Delicious food I would definitely go back, but one staff manners was shocking, still would go back for the waffles and ignore her
F. A.
Eggs Royale were perfect!
T. W.
Great place for coffee and food. Not expensive at all. Good location as well.
M. H.
LOVE Papii. The cutest wee cafe, staff are so lovely and friendly and their breakfast paninis are 👌

Food was great. Staff were mostly friendly but one member of staff was quite rude and dismissive. An accidental overcharge was speedily and helpfully rectified.
B. M.

Great for breakfast if you like waffles with maple syrup and frightening amounts of crispy bacon washed down with good coffee
S. W.
Cozy, friendly cafe serving good coffee, good food with friendly staff. Its only small so dont be afraid to wait for a table its worth it.
Y. L.
The Benedict is amazing, the price is reasonable as well, will visit again.
m. l.
Papii is cute, great coffee and breakfast and scones the size of your head - only caution is that it's compact and bijou so you might struggle to find somewhere to sit!
E. L.
Lovely place. Had the eggs benedict, was perfect. Staff is very friendly and casual, love the atmosphere of this place.
F. A.
Good place to have breakfast and brunch. Small restaurant and need to queue during peak hours
