Reviews of Berry's
B.
Fantastic place for a late breakfast/lunch. Dog friendly and all locally sourced food.
A DELICIOUS selection of cakes and I’m sorry that I couldn’t get a picture of the food because I just couldn’t wait to eat it!
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. You tell me!
G.
Excellent cafe with a very extensive menu for a relatively small place. The food was very good - the scone I had was so light and fluffy. We sat in the lovely sunny, wisteria-clad outdoor seating area where our dog was also welcome. The service was the friendliest I've had for a long time. Ask to see the specials board. I'd love to come back to this place next time I'm in the area.
S. G.
Lovely place to eat with interesting, local, homemade choices. Service a little slow but it was a lovely day so didn't mind too much. Food was delicious. Wish we had room for yhe cakes/desserts. They looked amazing!!
G. B.
Had gluten free cheese scone and was lovely. My wife had the Spanish chocolate drink fabulous.
C. W.
Directed here by another tea shop which was closing at 4pm (Berry's is open later). Friendly service from everyone. Great choice of teas/coffees/food. Interesting building, tucked away down an alley!
D. K.
Fantastic place. Food is top class, amazing caramelised onion tart, lovely cakes (best lemon cake I've had), and an unforgettable atmosphere. A must if visiting Church Stretton.
A. C.
Called in for Sunday breakfast.
It was very busy so service was a bit slow.
However food was worth the wait.
Top quality food cooked well.
A. M.
Had a wonderful lunch with colleagues. They fitted us in despite being very busy, the food was delicious and the service was friendly and good humoured.
K. H.
Lovely little cafe. We came here for lunch whilst driving through to go to Craven Arms. The decor is very sweet and homely and the waitresses were charming and attentive. The food was freshly cooked and delicious and will come return if we are ever in the area again.
N. P.
Wonderful little spot, lovely coffee and teas and delicious food. My husband and I went for lunch and liked it so much we came back for breakfast in the courtyard the next morning! The staff are really friendly and it was well set up for covid precautions - with track and trace, hand sanitizer and tables well spaced. Definitely a must visit in Church Stretton!

An absolute gem. Such a beautiful place to eat! We had a long, tiring hike today and chose to come here for a drink and something to eat. The scones were the best we've had (better than the ones we have in London) and the tea was particularly delightful too. We sat in their lovely garden, with a little waterfall and greenery surrounding us. The staff were also so welcoming and helpful. Leila took care of our bills and made it super easy for us to pay separately. We would come back here

Nothing short of perfection and well needed after a long ride out on freezing morning. Im just sorry I did'nt take a photo of their amazing breakfast...
e. r.
I really recommend the Welsh Rarebit.
Drop in for some fantastic hospitality.
G. P.
Charming setting and friendly happy staff.
We had a lovely lunch there.
M. B.
Let your fantasy go when you come here. It is quirky and full of historic features. Food is second to none and you will feel very good after leaving. Prices are ok too (£9 for a main).
S. S.
Always great service.Plenty of choice on the menu of good homemade food.Afternoon tea excellent!
M. G.
Delicious Staffordshire oatcakes and pineapple and pistachio merengue. A really interesting menu served in a really attractive building.
A. C.
Lovely gem a little hidden but worth seeking out. A fantastic selection of cakes and proper loose leaf tea.
L. C.
Excellent home cooked scones with lots of jam & cream.
Dog friendly as well
P. B.
Quirky restaurant with locally sourced food. Have been before and it is quite expensive now. Food is good.
H. v. W.
A lovely cosy retreat from a grey winter's day. Open fires, a piece of Christmas cake and a pot of Earl Grey. Like stepping into the past.
M. M.
A lovely place. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had delicious treats in a beautiful little outside space.
L. F.
Amazing place tucked away.
We had a great meal.
Very friendly and welcoming staff
Certainly recommend and visit again
Thank you
M. B.
Open early on Sunday morning, cosy little cafe serving lovely food, by friendly polite staff.
H.
Tucked away, a little busy and caotic but the food was nice.
s.
Really love this place and it seems to be getting busier each time we go. That must be a good sign especially as it's a little place out of the way.
A. B.
Lovely quirky cafe. Serves a gorgeous coffee. The food is very good and the service is excellent.
Only problem on my visit was that the soup we wanted had just run out. Just shows how good it was.
Each table has some history notes on the building and coffee houses in general as well as the general menu which is extensive. Gluten free can be accommodated.
W. W.
Lovely staff, great Wi-Fi! Even better scones
M. L.
Lovely coffee stop with good well cooked food all locally sourced. If the sunshine out sit outside if you can, a great sun trap.
C. D.
Lovely quirky interior, friendly staff, good covid precautions, nice coffee and a good selection of cakes including some options for those of the vegan persuasion
F. S.
Stopped here on a bike ride. Great cafe - had the fried breakfasts, which were delicious, well-cooked with well-sourced produce, and then fabulous scones with jam and cream and the lemon and elderflower cake. Coffee delicious and staff friendly. Would definitely return.
L. F.
After a 10 mile walk we called into Berrys for a late lunch.
Very accomodating waitress who found out all the info I needed to enable me to make gluten free choices.
My brie and bacon sanwich was lovely. I asked for my bacon crispy and that was what I got. My fruit and nut meringue was lovely too.
Service is quick for freshly made food and sensibly priced.
We've been here several times before as everything tastes fresh and they have fantastic homemade cakes.
C. B.
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL SALMON for lunch. Everything was perfectly cooked on a warm plate I can honestly say it’s one of the best eateries I know. I’m very fussy but would not hesitate to recommend this place. Their desserts are to die for too ❤️ and, no, I’m not related to them 😂 …
S. E.
A rabbit warren of a place with tables in two rooms and a third room with arm chairs and coffee tables. I like it a lot. We called in for brunch and discovered Staffordshire Oat Cakes on the menu, a rare treat. They seemed a little expensive at £11 but you got two each and they were served with lots of different salads, a huge delicious plateful. The price seemed reasonable after that. The coffee was excellent. Any time I'm in Church Stretton I will call in.
M. L.
Fantastic little coffee shop and eatery. We went there for afternoon tea. The scones were fresh and warm with clotted cream and amazing jam. The pineapple and pistachio meringue was so good. Great location, great service. Nothing to fault. Top notch.
A. G.
A really nice, atmospheric coffee shop. The menu covers all the traditional tea, coffee and lunch options you could wish for. The menu also shows you all the local suppliers they use , and it is a long list! I had a local cheddar sandwich with a side salad and it was delicious. My only regret is that I didn't have time to try the cakes as they looked great too!
A. M.
It was very busy when we arrived at 1.45 which I suppose was too be expected. You could see the staff were rushed off their feet. However we found a table and got served as quick as I could have expected . They were all very obliging and friendly. We had hot drinks and home made cakes with cream and ice cream respectively, which were very nice. The cappachinos were lovely. A very popular place and I can see why with the quality of the food and drinks.
Only negative was that we were seated near the cappachino machine and it was a bit noisy to hear ourselves at times.
Keep up the good work and looking forward to returning.
E. C.
Gorgeous quant little cafe - best vegan scone I've ever had, it was total perfection. My wife had the full breakfast and it was beautiful - all locally sourced to top it off and the staff are lovely. Nice homely feel and lovely and clean.
J. G.
We enjoyed tea and Bakewell tart with clotted cream, the best we have ever had. The tea was really, really good, their special blend although lots of choices of tea and coffee.
There was a good choice of savoury and sweet desserts and cakes too. Friendly and helpful staff made it an enjoyable experience! Would definitely go ahead.

This was my first visit and it's a really friendly and welcoming place to enjoy a coffee with good food and a great selection of cakes on offer all served with a smile. You will not be disappointed with the service and feel for the place. A real blast from the past and I left feeling that I must visit again when I'm next in the area. A big thank you must go to the staff for making my visit with friends so enjoyable. 😊
A. U.
A very friendly place, lovely good, and good service. We've been several times this week!
A.
A hidden gem that can be easily missed. Excellent selection of cakes and portions are a decent size. The tea is very good, served with leaves and a strainer. The staff are efficient and friendly. There is a large amount of seating spread over multiple rooms with one having a sofa. A great choice for meeting friends or recovering after a long walk.
P. S.
Being number 1 cafe in a hot-spot such as Church Street Stretton means you have to be consistently excellent. Berry's justifies it's position in spades. Thank you to the chef and very friendly staff.
M. A.
The menu is a little limited but it is good quality and very fresh. The staff are friendly and well presented. I'd happily recommend Berry's for a good healthy lunch.
L. R.
Had pot of tea beautifully made, scone, jam and clotted cream sat in their little courtyard garden. Friendly welcome, excellent service, really varied choice of hot and cold food. So nice, we're going back this week.
R. G.
Fabulous breakfast of pancakes and bacon sandwiches.
Coffees also very good.
It's always a meal to look forward to at Berry's !
B.
Fab scones, jam and cream. I love the tea blend made with fresh tea leaves. Soup and roll good vfm. Very friendly staff and indoor and outdoor space. Great atmosphere. Makes a visit to Church Stretton a real treat.
H. C.
We had had a lovely walk along Carding Mill Valley, walked into Church Stretton to find Barry's Tea Rooms. What a find, wonderful setting and staff, the cheese scones were delicious. Will definitely go again.
I.
Great food, friendly helpful staff.
F. N.
Really super cafe and tea room. Visited here for the first time last year and returned during our stay in Church Stretton this week. Really lovely atmosphere, polite and friendly staff and delicious cakes and scones. Really recommend a visit.
T. S.
Coffee shop with the wow factor. Just perfect! They've won lots of awards, and they deserve them. Very friendly service in an interesting setting. I recommend the cheese scones.
J. F.
Three of us ate at Berry's before Lockdown after playing golf at the Church Stretton Golf Club up on the Long Mynd. Berry's was excellent, Friendly, great food and great service. We are planning another trip to the Golf Club so are delighted to see that Berry's is still going and hope that they can fit us in after our Golf.
r.
Superb afternoon tea with lovely friendly service. Great cheese scone.
H. T.
Very pleasant terrace with umbrellas. Extensive menu and friendly staff. Better be hungry if you have the Welsh raerbit! Lovely salads and homemade lemonade.
L. K.
Went there after a hike. Lovely place
G. M.
Excellent little coffee shop. Stopped off for a coffee and a scone Tuesday morning. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Scone was top notch highly recommended, would definitely visit again.
D. J. B.
Berry's I see why you are in trip advisors best restaurant guide everything is just delicious and the quirky lay out is just lovely and big plus in my book loose leaf decaff tea and a GOOD selection of gluten free cakes not just a chocolate brownie you really think about giving your customers the best experience and to think your here right on my doorstep only little thing would be nice to see the fish cakes with a gluten free crumb or your fab home cooked pies in a gluten free pastry Once in a while would make this one VERY happy local I sing your praises when ever asked for some where for coffee and cake meeting is needed
R. C.
Delicious cappuccino in cosy surroundings.
P. V.
Great restaurant / cafe. Good choice of very good dishes.
C. G.
As before we experienced a lovely welcome and excellent food and drink. Good customer service.
K. H.
We had a delightful lunch today with very pleasant service. Savoury tart and a ploughman's lunch. Both excellent quality and locally-sourced.
A. W.
Good quality ingredients - bacon sandwich was excellent. Coffee was good quality although small hence the 4 star. ( told on the way out they do do a large). Service was great although quite when I was here and I can see it getting slower when busy. My little boy says it has the best brownies ever, although I never had a chance to taste!!
S. R. A.
Absolutely lovely little coffee shop, tucked away down a side street in the pretty and quiet town of Church Stretton. The ambiance is relaxed and cozy. There are multiple seating areas, each of which has its own charm. I stayed their for a good couple of hours - had a coffee and elderflower cake, with a pot of earl grey to follow as I did some work on my computer. Ideal place for a bit of down time, bit of work, or a nice chat with friends or family. The staff were all welcoming and approachable too!
J. ..
I visited for the first time yesterday to have a breakfast before my long mtb ride and on recommendations on Google. When you get there it's down a alley and I thought o dear! But when you get inside it's not what you expect its great. There are places with comfy seats for relaxing coffee and a chat, tables under a lovely old featured conservatory and a small quaint garden. The breakfast was excellent and I took one of there cakes for the ride and that was really tasty. Well worth a visit.
j. o.
It's a home from home. Freindly, inviting and fabulous food and service, period features, gorgeous glass canopy room, and outer courtyard x 🤗 …
H. L.
As usual we enjoyed excellent food at Berry's. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. One of our favourite places to eat.
S. H.
Food was amazing. I had the chichen pie with leaks and fresh veg. Coffee although black with milk was delicious.
D. H.
Berry's is a wonderful tea room down a side alley. It is like stepping back in time with a delightful courtyard and plenty of room in quaint surroundings inside. I have visited many times over the years and have always been very pleased with the quality of the home made food, at a reasonable price and exceptional service from the lovely staff. I have been exploring the Shropshire Hills this summer on my old motor bike, calling into Berry's for lunch then up over the Long Mynd is the highlight of a 200 mile journey. Thank you ladies... best wishes David
M. V.
It's a treasure. It is probably only one place in Church Stretton which is open till 5pm. And luckily we visited it. It looks old but trendy. Nice and comfy sofa in one "lounge" with cup of tea and toasted tea-cake was exactly what I wanted in the afternoon. The staff is really friendly and prices more than acceptable. If you have a chance and are ready for lovely cake or cup of tea then don't think longer and visit Berry's.
K. L.
This lovely little find is absolutely great for food. We had breakfast here and it was A-MAZING!! Lovely staff, small outside courtyard garden and lovely seating areas inside. All food is freshly cooked so you may have to wait a while for food but it is well worth the wait. Brilliant 😊 …
A. M.
A lovely cafe for the best cakes and tea in Church Stretton, after a long walk along the Mynd
G. S.
This is a usual stop off for tea coffee and cake when we're cycling, lovely little courtyard at the back, service is freindly and attentive. Interesting facts about coffee house history dotted about.
J. I.
Food, service, cleanliness, covid awareness all top notch
K. W.
A very charming restaurant we just happen to find while passing. Food cooked to order, served hot. Staff friendly.
D. W.
Great food with much of it locally produced and/or organic. Plenty of vegetarian options. It has a small outdoor seating area and the only complaint is sometimes a little small portions and the place can feel a little cramped due to the small size of the rooms. They sometimes have their front room available for bigger groups which gets around the space problem.
R. H.
Like a blast from the past. Sitting in your nans front room.
I. W.
Today was my first time in Berry's and very good it was too. It's a very friendly and cosy cafe. We had great sandwiches and I myself had a very very nice flat white, we'll be back before long
h. R.
Lovely breakfast on way to Ludlow races. Quality local ingredients, well cooked and great value.
C. F.
Come here for breakfast a few times now when camping nearby. Breakfast is simply unbeatable, and coffee is great to match. Nice cosy interior with a garden for sunny days. Couldn't recommend more if your in the area.
C. A.
Fabulous cakes etc. Cosy old fashioned tea room
A. G.
Great food and cake, and really friendly service
m. h.
Friendly place, delicious food in the middle of church stretton.
Parking just across the street if you are lucky and a small outdoor area if the weather is nice. Looking forward to coming back again.
N. b.
Excellent tea and cakes. Not too badly priced. Beautiful old building with a lot of character.
M. M.
Deceptively large tea-room set down an alleyway off the main street. A set of varied rooms ramble their way around the building. Good choice if drinks and cakes, etc. Licensed too. Service seemed slow. Good.
A. M. M.
Lovely atmosphere. The chickpea fritters with sun-dried tomato chutney were delicious, as was the lemon curd sponge cake. Highly recommend.
S. C.
The day we visited was scorchingly hot, so it was lovely to find that there was a delightful flower-filled courtyard, but had it been a dull winter's day there was a gorgeous-looking sitting room that would warm your heart. We had lunch, and the local meat platter was extremely good - the meat pie was really meaty, the chorizo was dry and spicy, and the ham was first class. The real star of the show was a pudding. I confess I ordered it because of the name, but the Sticky Shropshire Lass ( named after a local beer, I promise!) was a great variant on sticky toffee pudding, being made with Shropshire Lass beer and cassis. Service was first class, and I'd thoroughly recommend Berry's for lunch. I'm just sorry I couldn't eat enough to also describe some of the vegetarian food.
G. A.
Very nice place with a tasty locally sourced menu where possible. Ideal for coffee and cake, a snack lunch or full meal. Really recommend if if find yourself in Little Switzerland.
R. C.
Lovely historic place complete with original open fire adding a really warm touch to the atmosphere.
Delicious home made food and excellent service.
Well worth a visit.
M. B.
Food excellent taste and quality, service good, though it was quiet. Only criticism, being a big coffee lover, the coffee was far too hot! Otherwise a very pleasant experience.
A. B.
Great food, excellent service, caters for special dietary needs with ease and aplomb. The shops are really nice as are the hummus sandwiches. The coffee is really good too.
L. P.
Delicious cream tea with fresh Shropshire products. Cafe was a little cramped however.
R. M.
Lovely food, and coffee. Unfortunately no card payments, and only one small sign indicating this. The staff should inform customers when taking orders, or perhaps it should be shown on the menu. Apart from this we enjoyed our visit.
F. Z.
Delightful English cafe/restaurant. Delicate but delicious cooking annd cakes. My favourite is the Whisky and walnut cake. Reasonable prices. Won't be disappointed with this jewel of a place!
B. V.
We visited this place last summer and we STILL talk about it now! We live in Warwickshire but are considering returning to this coffee shop in the next few weeks just because it was such a pleasurable experience.
It wasn't a great start, we entered and was immediately told there were no seats available unless we wanted to sit outside. It had been drizzling for about 30 mins and as we were still damp from the small hike around Cardind Mill Valley we'd just finished, we chose to look from somewhere else.
We went out and had a rummage in the local charity shops and then decided that we would return to Berry's as there was nowhere else that had caught our eye, and we were certainly glad we did!
We like cream teas and treat ourselves to one when we visit somewhere new. For £5.50 these cream teas where definitely worth the little more than 'average' price we would expect to pay.
Firstly these cream teas come with TWO scones not one as in most places, they were freshly made and were still warm. Proper warm not microwaved warm! The difference is obvious! The cream was plentiful and came in a ramikin, and so too did the jam.
The tea came in a pot with it's own infuser for the teabags. I don't think we've ever seen this in a tea room before.
The staff mainly consists of young girls, who despite their ages do their job well and professionally! The kitchen staff appear to be older ladies, so maybe one of these is Berry herself? The diversity of the staff in this way works well and the place gives a sense of eating grandma's cooking in her lounge.
R. H.
Great food however it's cash only here. Just one very small sign where you pay. Could do with a lot more signage informing this. Time this establishment got up to date! Apart from that food and drink was great.
N. C.
Awesome food. Great tea but a superb Spanish hot chocolate. Thick, gooey and hot. Welsh rarebit is a favorite of mine here.
C. B.
Fantastic little coffee shop. Charming owners and staff. Indoor and outdoor seating. Beautiful food. We always stop for lunch here when walking on the long mynd.
C. H.
Was OK, tables a tad close together but food very good.
L. G.
A lovely cosy, charming cafe. Friendly service, food is ethical, high quality with generous portions. Lots of vegetarian options, organic and locally sourced. Will definitely return
D. B.

Berry's is a lovely cafe, warm and comfortable with gorgeous cakes and very friendly staff.
K. G.
A very nice cozy place, very good food and the service is wonderful and they're lovely people. I would definitely recommend it as a place to go for a casual lunch or afternoon tea.
S. P.
Food was delicious! Everything definitely home made. Covid 19 measures are in place however social distancing was more difficult due to the smaller spaces.

G. S.
Great private courtyard, extensive menu, lovely freshly prepared food. A hidden gem.
C. P.
Friendly service and really good food - recommend the scones!!!
B. B.
We used to be regular visitors to Berrys but due to a combination of slow service and high prices we have our morning coffee elsewhere. This is sad because we do like the ambiance, the locally sourced produce and the high quality food. If you are a visitor it should be a must visit location but sadly not for us locals
#.
Nice Americano and delicious Cheese Ploughman's (Shropshire Blue especially good). Lovely staff too, thanks
