Reviews of Spitfire Espresso
J. T.
Not a very cozy coffee shop, pretty cold in February as they had their doors propped open. Coffee was average, but their selection was wide. We did not eat here so cannot comment on the food.
The barista serving was extremely friendly and accommodating.
Pictured: Oat Milk Latte. I got a black coffee.

The five stars is for the flat white and very pleasant service. I'm pretty fussy about my coffee and this just really hit the spot. Dark but nutty and perfect temperature. The eggs with vegan Lorna sausage was pretty good too!
U. M. G.
Don't really know if the beans they use are the best ones that you can find in Glasgow, but it is definitely the place that makes the best coffee in Glasgow. The atmosphere it's just so calm and I love studying or working from there. I go most weeks and it's always very welcoming.
S. H.
The vegan breakfast burritos lure me back again.
Good coffee, good food, decent vegan options, non-gendered toilets, everything I want. The only downside is other people seem to have noticed they’re good so it can get pretty busy.
V. P.
Cute little cafe for a quick snack or work. There's limited seating but the ambience is good. The cafe has a constant influx of customers and remains lively throughout. I'll give the hot chocolate a pass next time though.
R. C.
Excellent service with friendly and helpful staff. Short wait to food was 100% worth it. Burrito made to order with deliciously fresh ingredients. Great coffee as well. We’ll definitely be returning when we’re back in Glasgow. Fantastic vegan options 👏🏻 Picture of my vegan burrito 👌🏻
T. M.
Needed a lunch spot while waiting for our train and as we had liked the look of it when we had wandered past previously we came back to the Spitfire and had a lovely unhurried coffee and bagels sitting on the benches off Candleriggs watching the world go by. Excellent service from the Aussie lad out front and the flat white was topper
L. M.
Stopped in here for a late breakfast after being let down by another local cafe and we were so glad we did. The staff were so lovely, and the food was fresh and delicious. Highly recommend the breakfast roll with avocado, potato scone, egg, crispy onions and sriracha sauce. Thank you & we will be back!
Z. S.
Honestly the best coffee I've ever had (and I've had a lot). I had a double espresso. We took the dog in too and the staff were amazing. Very helpful and friendly.
G. Y. T.
nice soughdough sandwich. decent coffee.
L. B.
This is exactly the kind of independent cafe I'd hoped to find during my trip to Glasgow. I had a great flat white and a lovely vegan burrito. Great options for fellow vegans - my wife had a generous breakfast bap with avo and few other bits.
I was even given the choice of a few hot sauces for my burrito - magic! Definitely come here whether you're vegan or not!
S. B.
Went here twice during our stay - had we found it on our first day we would have been there everyday! Friendly service and the best breakfast we had in Scotland. Really good coffee as well.
B. E.
It's ok. Full breakfast is £12 which I think is very pricey for this level of establishment.
The broken windows don't quite go with the price range.
Roll n bacon was ok. Bacon nice the roll itself was cheap. Coffee not great either
Staff were nice but overall I would go elsewhere
B. M.
Had a bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese ... excellent! Great service, very pleasant staff. Relaxed surroundings. Interesting toilets ... used to be the safe!
D. Z.
Great coffee and lovely atmosphere plus attentive service. The breakfasts are really good too!
C. v. D.
Small cafe with good coffee and kind staff. Always delicious baked goods available. Kitchen closes pretty early around 3/4
T. v. d. H.
Great service, great pricing and a warm welcoming atmosphere; especially cosy. Super easy to find on the Google maps app since it's ok the corner.
Milk alternatives are also available for those who prefer it. There are also meals on the menu.
10/10 would come back here again!
R. M.
First time in this brilliant wee place.its the best sausage and egg roll I've had. Cant wait to go back.
D. J.
One of my favourite spots for coffee. The cakes are amazing and the staff are just lovely.
E. R.
I have been coming to this place every time I visit Glasgow and it never disappoints me! Great one for nice coffee and a bite, I love their brunch/lunch options. Conveniently located in the heart of city centre towards Strathclyde campus and Merchant city, staff are very friendly and prices are good for the offered products. This time I got the soup+sandwich combo (halloumi sandwich and a very tasty and wintery cauliflower/bean soup) for ~£8 and my partner got the "big breakfast" for £10 (I think). Both we were happy with value for money and more than happy to go back!
A. W.
A small quaint little independent coffee shop in this fashionable location in merchant city near merchant square with good views from their large windows giving the place a light airy feel and of course you can watch the world go by. A little more expensive than the branded coffee outlets but excellent service and more importantly, great coffee
J. B.
Lovely place, lovely staff and quality coffee.
F. D. V. B.
I'm a huge coffee fan and I just had one of the best espressos in my life at this coffee shop. The brunch was also amazing and really delicious. The staff is friendly and welcoming, they remembered I had come the day before and even joke about it.
J. R.
Cute little cafe with friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Loved the Lorne sausage, really as a sausage should be! Coffee was superb. Guest natural Colombian highly recommended as espresso.
E. F. D.
Nice people, gorgeous breakfast, delicious coffee.
M. M.
Fabulous coffee I had here, staff very friendly and courteous
C. J. Z.
Very delicious coffee. It's refreshing for me to drink a well made latte in this world of boiled milk and coffee oafs.
A. H.
Lovely staff, delicious food and really reasonably priced! Fantastic and really interesting veggie options, including vegetarian black pudding and Lorne sausage. Really pleased to have stumbled upon this place!
f. o.
Love this cafe. Have been a few times now and the food is scrummy. Great vegan options too. Lovely staff. Will keep going back
K. P.
Lovely staff, great food, amazing coffee and all at a very respectable price! So much so went back the next day for breakfast again :)
N. T.
Excellent coffee and friendly and welcoming service from the barista's
K. G.
Good Coffee, Banging Burrito and the guy behind the counter gave me a hair tie when mine broke. Definitely be back soon.
K. v. d. V.
Excellent coffee with a million tastes. Best vegetarian full Scottish breakfast I've had. Not too clean. Should sell t-shirts with the logo on it.
R. C.
Great vegetarian food (highlight = vegan black pudding), delicious coffee and fun, friendly service! Visited multiple times on a visit to Glasgow. Thanks folks x
B. G.
Lovely breakfast, divine coffee.
G. C.
Probably the best flat white I've had in a long time of having a coffee only based diet 😂
S. H. S.
Friendly staff and excellent coffee. I can definitely recommend this place.
M. R.
Very busy little cafe so a bit of a wait ,but great rocky road
D. M.
Owned and operated by a New Zealander it's no surprise that this place serves epic coffee. The flat white is one of, if not the best coffee I've ever had. The breakfasts are great. The aviation theme is subtlety nostalgic with period upbeat tunes to match. The huge leaded windows flood the suitably decorated room with light and there is plenty of space. Staff are great, welcoming helpful and knowledgeable. #indycoffee at it's best, keep up the good work. I'll definitely be back when I next visit the city. I love your work!
S. W.
Coffee, treats, and gluten-free beer on tap. What's not to love? (Yes, they have normal beer too)
D. B.
Lovely little place in the heart of Glasgow great service, very caring staff and lovely coffee and food
A. B. (.
great veggie options. definetly filling !
T. C.
Love this independent coffee shop. The scrambled eggs on toast might be the finestl thing known to man, and could probably do wonders if they were donated to science. Try the Flat White too...
I. M.
Been here many times; friendly service, great coffee and not too busy like some other places. Nice atmosphere
O. R.
Great little spot for a coffee and cake and to relax whatever the weather! Coffee was spot on, cake was delicious and the staff friendly and warm. Music and atmosphere perfect for a chilled out coffee
M. T.
Great tasting coffee, brilliant staffing. Seating outside was fun for people watching.
T. O. S. o. t. C.
Great coffee, nice service. Didn’t seem to be many snack options, a few cakes and sandwiches, nothing healthy. Though Scotland isn’t known for its health food.
C. W.
Great coffee at a fair price.
A. M.
Lovely atmosphere, great staff, and solidly good coffee.
Totally unpretentious too!
Can get a bit loud inside, but plenty of outdoor seating available.
B. H.
Excellent coffee, really friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. Can get busy at times but that's all part of the charm really.
F. C.
Great coffee and fantastic atmosphere.
B. B.
When you've had a busy morning and a happy lunch, there's one thing that will round it all off.....a caffeine break.
Within the Merchant city, Spitfire, such a vibrant coffee haunt, ticks the box for me.
Love their window stools where you can either watch busy Candleriggs, study the huge detailed wall mural in the adjacent car park or perhaps, marvel the character of the building itself. Please note, a number of customers choose to sit with their laptops, it all adds to the diversity of the place.
Although I did not eat, the food I did see being served at close by tables, looked deliciously wholesome and all were freshly made.
Oh and my coffee, defo warrants 5 stars.
Cheers, until next time.
C. M. G.
Best latte in the city BAR NONE.
So good I bought 2..haha.
J. D.
I am quite certain they served me the best oat milk cappuccino I’ve ever had
F. G.
Good coffee, good service. Nice and simple place with some simple food. Pity that the menu is so limited and mostly supermarket quality ingredients
R. G.
Great coffee and awesome place to meet up with a friend. Thanks so much for a great time, 100% recommend to a friend!
D. M.
Really great breakfast spot, thoroughly enjoyed my morning roll!
A. C.
A nice little coffee shop which offers inside and outside seating at the moment. Staff are friendly and helpful. I find some drink menu items are overpriced considering the size of the beverage. Though overall, the cafe is nice, quaint and original and is a good place to meet up with friends.
C. C.
Great coffee and breakfast. Friendly staff great prices.
N. K.
Great coffee!
J. C.
Service was really great - friendly & welcoming!
Breakfast food was excellent: I had a Latte, and a Halloumi, Lettuce & Tomato toastie; it was great!
100% recommended.
K.
Good variety and excellent quality brunches, character coffees, friendly staff, immaculate toilets and Covid friendly. Not too hipster, cosmopolitan.
L. M.
cracking wee coffee shop. incredibly helpful and friendly staff, reasonable prices, and a fantastic tasting espresso great for milk or black coffees. a fantastic range of options for food also including sandwiches, breakfast style meals, and a soup of the day which (whenever I've had it) has been brilliant! super vegan friendly also which is always a bonus! overall my favourite spot for lunch/coffee in the Merchant City - would definitely recommend!
B. B.
One of my fav spots.
Coffee is quite bitter but ask for some milk and it will be fine. I guess it is over roasted.
The panini is delicious.
I’d recommend this lil place.
M. J.
Perfect shot, very good service!
Coffee blended here is fantastic!
R. P.
Tasty breakfast, great coffee and service
a. p.
Very cool and cozy environment with a great view outside the windows. Friendly staff and very good coffee! Perfect spot in town for a nice coffee or even to do some work outside the house. Thanks!

Great coffee. Solid breakfast. Nice staff.
A. M.
Great little coffee shop. Good coffee, food, and service. Nice ambiance.
G. A.
Really delicious latte! Not sure what blend it was, tasted stronger with a nutty flavor but it hit the spot.
A. M.
One of the best coffee shops in Glasgow! Friendly knowledgeable staff serving excellent, well priced drinks!
J. T.
Awesome cafe. Coffee and decor are amazing
A. M.
Amazing wee coffee shop. Dog friendly and used to go as much as I could before lockdown!
Food is tasty, drinks delicious, and the staff are incredibly friendly and just happy to be there. They really create such a lovely vibe and atmosphere in the cafe
I was so excited to see they're open for takeaway during lockdown and we popped in for a tasty cold brew! Defo worth a visit.
C. H. (.
Tasty bit of eggs and stuff and good coffee. Lovely staff.
N. l.
Great coffee, great atmosphere and great breakfast at the heart of Glasgow
A. b.
Good food and coffee. And the staff were pretty friendly too.
D. R.
Lovely coffee and Victoria sponge... Busy so nice atmosphere and great service
C. R.
Fab espresso
Friendly staff
Top Place
S. H.
Delicious food, beautifully prepared and displayed. Fresh and fun menu.
Good coffee.
The service though is worth mention, the staff were accommodating and super helpful to provide for our rather large cafe group of 8. Even the children were happy.
Overall great experience!
N. S.
Great service, wonderful latte, and delightful music make this a must stop coffee shop!
S. A.
Great service and lovely coffee and cakes with a fabulous pavement view down to the Museum of Modern Art.
F. T.
Genuinely one of the very best breakfasts and coffee I’ve had. Burrito was quite different with the garlic and the coffee was out of this world!!! I bought some beans after ☕️
R. G.
Absolutely class service. Pretty quiet when I was there, but speedy service with excellent patter about the rituals of teabags in tea. Solid black pudding and egg roll too. I'll be back!
K. R.
Really friendly atmosphere, great coffee and amazing all day breakfast burritos! Nice wee selection of extras to buy in store also: cups, coffee, snacks, juices etc
S. B.
Great place, fine food, amazing manager
R. H.
Simple and decent! Egg dishes are must-try, layers of taste inside
A.
Excellent coffee and nice staff
D. L.
Spitfire Espresso is simply the best coffee shop I’ve ever been to. First of all it looked unique and stylish, everything in the store had a vintage touch to it. Their espresso had a very special flavour and tasted amazing. The food looked elegant and most importantly delicious. The prices were a little high but I think it was worth it. I came here two times during my one week stay in Glasgow, and will absolutely come here again in the future. I would highly recommend this Espresso shop. It is an amazing place to spend time with friends.
J. S.
This is a great restaurant for breakfast or lunch. They have a nice selection of sandwiches, desserts, drinks, etc. It is a bit on the small side but we had no trouble getting in. It was not overly loud so carrying on a conversation was not a problem. It is a dog friendly restaurant. The prices are reasonable. Stop in and enjoy a meal.
D. L.
Great atmosphere and more importantly great coffee. Food selection looks good with a nice selection of hot sauces and coffees to take home.
A.
Lovely coffee and food. A great solo trip 😁
C. C.
Excellent find on a very stormy day. Me and Chloe Cockapoo made so welcome. Definitely one to visit in the city. Great coffee; lovely food and really friendly and welcoming staff. Promise yourself a visit. No disappointment served here!
G. R. B.
This is a great gem in Glasgows merchant city. The owner is this amazing guy from New Zealand and he often has these cake things from home. The espresso is a little more bitter than others but that's why I like it. I recommend the lunch menu, especially the salmon bagel. It tastes awesome. Even the beer is served in these tiny wee cute glass tankards.
L. G.
I really like Spitfire espresso, the coffee is definitely high quality, and the food is simple but good, does an amazing job. The only thing is that Spitfire can be a very noisy place. But definitely a great place!
S. W.
The staff were really friendly. Felt comfortable there and it was a lovely atmosphere you could tell the staff enjoyed being there. The bomber breakfast was amazing too ate it all up and the coffee was delish! No sugar needed.
A. O. T. M.
Good coffee in a nice cafe. Great atomosphere and friendly staff.
R. C.
Lovely and reasonably priced coffee served by kind people 😊
T. S.
THE BEST!!! Quite simply the best breakfast you can get! The team are always helpful and amazing homemade cakes. LOVE YOU GUYS! <3
J. M.
A great place to grab a coffee, and something to eat whether it's breakfast, lunch or a slice of cake, it all looked good. Friendly staff and a cool atmosphere. Only negative and its small, butter on the toast would be welcome.
P. S.
Good food: snacks for me in this case, the old roll and egg. Good service by friendly staff. The coffee is excellent!!
R.
The food and coffee is great, I came for breakfast but they have a great selection of Craft Beers as well. The only problem I had was I waiting for 30 mins to have my order taken at the table, but I did come on a bank holiday morning and the place was full plus they had a bunch of take aways so it was understandable.
B. j.
Very friendly staff! Food was lovely but the highlight was the orange juice that was freshly squeezed on order and was able to be strained to get rid of the bits. Would recommend highly
a. l.
A fantastic spitfire themed café with a great range of really tasty food and superb coffee. Can highly recommend the h.a.l.t and the b.l.a.t breakfast sandwiches. Quirky 1950s feel, help yourself to tap water from a period sink and delicate antique glasses. The staff were all really friendly and happy both days we ate here. Only regret is I didn't try a piece of Thier awesome looking home-made cakes.. will definitely go again.
J. S.
My husband and I popped into here last week on a whim. Happy with the lunch and drink menu as well as the dessert options. I had a fruit beer and a cider on the recommendation of a friendly employee behind the till; both were good options. My broccoli soup was sadly bland. But the sourdough that came with it was good! My husband had a chocolate salted caramel brownie and was quite happy; sweet with a touch of sea salt.
S. M.
Good coffee and food however excessively priced for extra sides. My friend had order mushrooms for £2.00 extra and was given one mushroom.. we had mentioned this and it was removed from the bill so overall a great experience!
D. K.
Can only speak about the coffee, as I haven't eaten here (but the food looks delicious!). The coffee they serve here is amazing: it's a Brazilian blend from Espirito Santo and it has a wonderful candied orange note that'll make your taste buds sing. The crew here is also top notch: informed coffee lovers without the pretentiousness that usually goes along with such a designation. Overall, an A+ establishment that you need to visit.
D. M.
I often call in here in the mornings for my breakfast roll & coffee.
Large breakfast rolls and Deicent bacon, will be back more often.
D. B.
Just had an amazing flat white to go. Best coffee in ages. Nice vibe. Food menu looked good, and nice bottled beer too. Will be back.
G. R.
Good place for a nice Flat White coffee and lunch.
J. H.
Spitfire is a really solid speciality café - I didn't find them doing anything radical or groundbreaking but they keep things simple and do what they do really well. The baristas are clearly passionate and knowledgeable, and recognised us and remembered our orders on our second visit. My espresso was well balanced and sweet both times, less acidic and sour than some other speciality places.
The space is really cosy and the 40s theme is done tastefully, the crockery is especially gorgeous. There's a decent amount of seating and its the kind of place I'd want to sit and have several drinks at if I had time.
Ν. Κ.
Best espresso at Glasgow...
Must pay a visit...
G. L.
Spent breakfast here with a few friends, we've all been satisfied.
Delicious coffee and good breakfast.
Very friendly engaging and welcoming staff.
C. M.
The staff are lovely, very attentive the food is delicious but expensive and the coffee is fantastic. Overall a chill place for a bite to eat and some excellent coffee
C. M.
This place is just shweeeet. Not only is the coffee superb and done right but the staff are superb and do you right everytime. ;-) The amount of times I've been only for the owner sit down and just have a nice chat with me has been often. It gives it a real natural vibe and not the cold feeling other city's give off way too often. Go!

Three nights at Celtic Collections.
Day 1, breakfast in Z Hotel, microwaved breakfast brick (sorry, should read “brioche”)!
Day 2, breakfast at Spitfire Espresso
The “breakfast brick” proved to be the high point...
“Pity Greggs was shut....”
“Must have been a staff training day at the Spitfire...”
“Poor, working (slowly) towards average would sum the review up”
Day 3, out of pity, decided it couldn’t be that bad two days in a row and went back.....
.......and so should you, what a fabulous breakfast, the Lancaster Bomber was the only food I’d needed since having another the day before. The Fat White (and that’s no yoke) was tremendous, necessitating a second.
On their way from “poor” to “average” they need to slam the plates down a bit more, placing half the breakfast on the table and similarly, wobble the cups a bit more such that half of it ends up in the saucer.
No matter how many days in a row you go, you will not be disappointed by the food, drink or atmosphere in the place....
As my old car share pal, Ernie, said, daily, “y're a lang time deed”, and this is one place you need to go before you are.
2/10😄😄😄😄😄
PS one of the staff was caught smiling....but that’s been reported!
E. G.
Good strong coffee, friendly staff
V. s.
One of the best coffee spot in Glasgow centre. Nice desserts and prety often new guest espresso take place. Nice atmosphere and very kind staff.
P. S.
Good food, great coffee and brilliant staff. Friendly atmosphere and a great beer selection for those that like the finer stuff. If your needing a place to relax and chill out, Spitfire is the place to go.
A. G.
Always come here for breakfast when we're in Glasgow regardless of where we're staying. Took us 30 mins to get across the city this morning! They make the best scrambled egg I've ever tasted. Would recommend but worried if I do we won't get a table so don't go... dont you dare!
W. N.
The score is for the staff, that is welcoming and friendly, we could see them preparing the cakes and sweets, what gives this impression of staying in someone's home. However the cakes and the latte are just ok, nothing special.
G. H.
Friendliest coffee shop in all of glasgow
E.
Nice friendly place. Coffee was okay, did the job I guess. Rocky road was best I've had in a decade!
S. W.
The coffee is the best I've tasted. Love the look, the coffee and the staff. They are very friendly and will please you no matter what. Highly recommend, I'm quickly becoming a regular.
T. K.
I had the halloumi sandwich, was pretty good. Also their coffee was excellent! For three people brunch we paid 26 Euros. Not bad
D. B.
Various delicious vegan options, good coffee to start your day.
They also have vegan cake options for those with a sweet tooth.
S. L.
Super friendly staff and excellent coffee. Thank you :)
D. C.
Great service, coffee is tasty but for me quite weak, next time I will get an extra shot. Overall great experience and definitely will be back. P.S. great music
J. H.
Just stopped in on the off chance, had poached eggs on handcut sourdough, flat white coffee with lots of froth, fantastic!
A. X.
Fabulous coffee at a very reasonable price. The size of the americano is ideal for me - not like the massive “venti” chain sizes. Lovely interior and friendly staff.
F. F.
Beautiful coffee with a fruity flavour and powerful kick! Friendly staff and good service, comfortable warm environment, excellent for lunch or a quick coffee.
R. C.
Lovely food, bloody loud staff when you enter - which isn't great when you're dying of a hangover and they shout HELLO at you. Nice service but pricey.
A. D.
great place for food and drink, great staff too
C. K.
Great place. The food is delicious and it's also much cheaper compared to other coffee shops. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, nice music to spend your lunch with.
A. O.
Had a great black pudding and mushrooms burrito, and they easily accommodated my need for no eggs 🧡
C. S.
Small but nice coffee
J. W.
One of the best breakfasts I've had, excellent black pudding as seems to be the norm in Scotland. Great coffee to wash it down with
R. M.
Delicious coffee and cool atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
R. S.
Good cafe near the centre of town. Breakfast rolls were great value. Service was quick and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

Best breakfast in Glasgow. Eggs on sourdough with avocado were divine. Coffee was excellent too. Its the Melbourne of the North, say I, a Melbournian!

I absolutely love this cafe. The decor and coffee is seriously great! 👍

Lovely little place. Great coffee and they customised the dishes to our vegetarian liking.
S. F.
Fantastic coffee, eco coffee cups and vegan pastry options. Haven't tried the food yet but I'll be back.
C.
Pretty location and even nicer coffee.
R. F.
For an Aussie with her own espresso machine, this is by far the best coffee I’ve had, and double shot as standard! Winner!
D.
Now firmly established as a real institution in Glasgow's excellent artisan coffee scene, expect excellent coffee, super friendly staff and plenty of Elvis.
G. M.
The staff were great. Food was great. Coffee was great. Couldn't be happier. Heading back right now!
D.
