Reviews of The Butcher's Café by McCaskie's

Great place to stop for a coffee and cake or a meal before getting on the ferry opposite or after getting off the ferry.
We stopped for coffee, deluxe hot chocolate and cakes which were very tasty but lots of other guests had a meal, which also looked very nice.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Small free car park next to the Cafe or a pay and display along the road.
After our snack we had a look around the old station right opposite the Cafe.

Great little breakfast place, right near train station and ferry port- great for people staying at the campsite!
Attached to butchers / farm shop and so food was fresh and tasty! Seating area was bright and open, with nice decor and lovely staff.
Veggie breakfast has Veggie haggis which was a first for me- but well worth a try.
Only downside was that another Veggie breakfast came with bacon by accident. Simple mistake, but something to keep an eye on!

They do a great breakfast here. Proper butchers sausages and thick cut bacon, none of the photocopy stuff. Full on hearty breakfast at a decent price. Had a little trouble trying to order chips to go with it but it was all sorted out satisfactorily in the end. We'll worth it and actually struggled to eat all the chips. Highly recommended.

I was in the butcher shop and delicatessen. Not the cheapest meat but excellent quality. Great selection of stir fry's, burgers, slice and chicken escalopes. All the usual cuts and more. Free range chicken and Scottish raised beef. Steak pies are amazing.
On the deli side - cheese, cold cuts, dressings, sauces. To many things to remember. Full range of wines and a knowledgeable boss for recommendations.
You can place an order and collect or have it delivered.
Have been in the restaurant. Wherever possible it's their own and local produce. Well worth a visit.

Went in last week with my friend for their breakfast but was too late so settled for 3 very small balls In bread crumbs of their award winning black pudding which tasted very nice. The waitress lifted my pot 🫖 of tea off her tray with her fingers over the side of the tea pot 🫖 & it dawned on me when I tasted the not very hot pot of tea that she maybe hadn't heated the 🫖 up first or the water wasn't boiling SO after I drank my tea & tried their Lattie & it was good but it wasn't piping hot. At least my plate on which my food was put on, was quite hot🔥 & that's the way it should be 👍 😁

Lovely food and quick service. Ideal location as there is a train station across the way so would imagine busy most of the day. Unfortunately parking was where ever you could

What a lovely place to eat. We were make really welcome. It had a happy friendly atmosphere and the food was delicious.

Fantastic place and accommodated fifteen of us on various tables. Service was quick and friendly. Afterwards we purchased some of the homemade cakes which I believe were excellent! (I was too full!)
D. P.
Great breakfast at a good price. Staff all friendly, welcoming and good at their jobs. I'll be back.

This is a great stop off especially for breakfast. I would definitely recommend the pancakes which are very well cooked, fluffy and delicious. I would personally like a little more bacon as I’d got through all of my bacon with a single pancake and had two pancakes left over devoid of accompanying bacony goodness. That being said the bacon straddled that miraculous margin of being just crisp enough to be satisfyingly crunchable without getting to the point of having even a hint of charcoalness. Which just made me wish I had just a few extra rashers even more. All in all, worth a visit.

Had breakfast there on a Saturday with only one table left, which is always a good sign. Full breakfast comes with toast but I noticed some people had changed that to a roll...nice touch. Very enjoyable meals and nice staff.

I was pleasantly surprised with this lovely little place! The food was delicious! The staff were extremely friendly and the place was well set out, clean and tidy. The prices were very good for the quality of food! At first I was a little disappointed there was no kids menu (having 3 young children this could have been extremely expensive) but thankfully after speaking to the waitress she advised the kitchen do offer a few small options at their discretion. The youngest was very happy with his sausage, chips and beans 😊 we will most definitely be back and have recommended it to anyone visiting the area!

Best full Scottish Breakfast you can experience. Top quality ingredients, which you can purchase next door in the butchers shop. Turns out they have won lots of awards for their breakfast items. For those not up to the "full Monty" a selection of smaller breakfast items are available up to noon. A regular lunch / afternoon tea menu is available after then although there is an all day breakfast option available.
B. H.
High expectations were surpassed. Nice meal and reasonable price!
P. K.
Nice cafe, stopped in for coffee and cake whilst waiting for Rothesay ferry, good coffee and good cake, staff very pleasant and efficient, reasonably priced and very clean and tidy.
K. M.
A lovely cafe that cooks meat from the attached butchers, it's all day breakfast is amazing and has at least 3 award winning items
S. F.
McCaskies do absolutely the best haggis I have ever eaten. They have provided me my haggis (meat and veggie haggis) for Burn's Supper for year's now - shipped to Bristol where I live and I' (and all my guests) have been 100% satisfied every time - thank you McCaskies!
E. C.
Lovely place to stop opposite Ferry terminal. Food freshly prepared and of high quality. Hygiene standards excellent - cafe has been totally refurbished as have the toilets- it was my first visit since lockdown and restrictions lifted. Adjacent shop well worth a visit- quality of butcher meat excellent, clientelle travel miles for his produce. I think he does online packages but we'll worth visiting!
S. R.
Brilliant cafe and butcher. Tasty, original, menu and friendly welcoming staff. Hard to beat!
A.
Not so generous portion sizes on some meals despite paying full price
C. M.
Stopped here for lunch before a ferry crossing. Can't recommend this place highly enough. Food was superb, service was brilliant. Cakes were also really really good. A wee gem of a place.
D. W.
Visited when passing through Wemyss Bay. Had an excellent snack of BLT for myself and grilled haloumi for my partner. The premises were very clean and tidy and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
S. M.
My husband and I very much enjoyed our lunch here. He reports that he had a fantastically fresh and expertly cooked steak. I had a supremely tasty macaroni. Our waitress, Katelyn was friendly, efficient and made sure we were well catered for. Afterwards, we enjoyed shopping in the well-stocked attached deli and butcher. Fabulous establishment.
M. K.
Excellent. Steak pie it ois probably the best I have tasted, the meat was so tender it fell apart and mash and veggies were fresh and so tasty.
Hubby had the Sunday roast which was equally delicious, staff were friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend
A. L.
Fab cafe restaurant. Very spacious, clean, smart and bright. Been a few times - this time for breakfast. I had the full breakfast which could have included black pudding or haggis, although I actually chose fried fruit pudding, which you don't often get! I was less keen on the sausage (neither the flat Lorne nor the links were that good), although another member of my party had no reservations about wolfing them down. Lovely coffee by the way. The cafe is situated right on the main road opposite Wemyss Bay Railway Station. There is a small car park at the side for customer use. Not particularly cheap - but it is nice and a nice view out the window allows you to see the comings and goings of the ferry to Rothesay.

I am a regular at this, our local watering hole! It's a great wee café with the most amazing cooked breakfasts. Big portions and fresh produce make it a great place any time of the day. Just a shame it's not opened in the evening as we could take a wander down then!
A. N.
Fantastic cafe/Bistro . Staff very friendly. The food was great and reasonably priced and after eating you should try out the butcher shop that is attached
M. A.
I visit Scotland twice a year and I make sure I visit these guys 😁
Great service, best coffee in wemyss bay …
M. R.
An excellent place to eat with one of the best Sunday roast dinners around. Nigel and Helen (the owners) have taken Seaview from strength to strength since taking it over! The staff are incredibly friendly and the food is well presented and of a high standard. Having eaten around the whole of Inverclyde, this is definitely the best place to eat. One of my favourite dishes has to be the Escalope of Chicken with garlic butter and home-made chips.
C. K.
Need to cook more dishes as to not run out, and regularly do Sunday lunch
J. H. F.
Tried my first ever haggis with the full breakfast and was pleasantly surprised! The staff were very attentive and friendly and the breakfast was just what I needed to start the day!! Highly recommend this place.
D. R.
This place is consistently very good. Smallish menu, home cooking - first class. Plus staff very friendly and helpful. Always has specials boards. Won't break the bank!
L. K.
Great choice of menu and very handy when shopping in Butchers next door. Only downside is the car parking. There is a very small car park at the side but if you aren't confident in small spaces it's a no. There is parking available on the street but you have to be quick!!!
B. W.
Very friendly butchers with high quality meats. The cafe is a lovely place to spend some time, watching the ferry come and go as you eat and drink. Friendly staff.
B. F.

Good opportunity to stop off. It is reminiscent of a combination of snack bar and restaurant. The decor is correspondingly simple but authentic. The service staff was friendly and quick, the prices are good and the haggis was some of the best I've had on my trip to the UK. Really delicious together with cheese-gratinated nachos. The meat also comes directly from the butcher shop next door and is therefore very fresh.
