Reviews of The Glad Cafe C.I.C
P. D. (.
Popped along for the first time in ages for brunch, amazing food. Had to steal some from my partners plate. Scrambled eggs on toast were great and the breads massive! Mushrooms and beans were awesome as well. Definitely worth a visit
A. S.
Great food and great service, absolutely love it here and they have loads of events and is just a really cool business in Shawlands
R. J.
Visited for an event. Glad cafe had super friendly staff and a good selection of beers. Will be back to try their vegan pizza...
G. R.
The Glad Cafe - it’s hard to describe how good this place is. The food was superb I don’t think I’ve tasted a Margarita Pizza in the UK that’s a nice as the one I’ve just finished.
Staff exceptionally friendly and the ambience is great.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough.
J. M.
Cafe was a little cold, not much heating on the go. Coffee machine was apparently not switched on around 12pm on a Sunday which was a bit weird... charged for filter coffee which was on par with a Klix coffee.... Brunch was tasty but to be fair its quite expensive for what you get. Pancake stack with 2 crispy bacon rashers and three oversized pancakes was £7. Will give it another go but it didn't leave a great impression to be fair. They are dog friendly which is a bonus and it was quite busy,
L. M.
First time in it diffrent kind of drinks food, coffe ,cakes ,looked good.
But went there for live band glad there was whisky ,cola a could drink .band was excellent Katy hurt .
and other girls were on single singing brilliant rote there own words to they will go far to.
L. M.
Did not try food but tried bottle bear not my prefrance had a normal whiskey cola in the privet music seckshion where two girls sang singaly and Katy hurts band sang good crowd . Face masks used to enter nise and clean place .
I. D.
A great wee bar with a great restaurant and venue. The food menu often changes and is always good! Selection of beers as well which is great!
N. M.
Nice food, friendly service, can be a little cold in there sometimes as it's a large space and only a few heaters but overall very nice :)
R. S.
Fantastic little place for a meal and some live music. Very welcoming and friendly, great pizzas, wide selection of beers.
P. C.
Always a warm welcome day and evening, with good food and a great adjoining music venue.
B. N.
Gr8 wee gig venue, super helpful staff and with the added benefit of having an accessible bar for wheelchair users. Good choice of drinks, fab home-baking.
L. D.
1st gig after lockdown. Not disappointed. Fantastic wee spot. Great atmosphere. A New International were as always the best.
M.
Super lovely food (very amazing) and staff. Cheap, nice atmosphere. Can't wait to go back. Vegeterian menu with plenty of delicious vegan options!
C. M.
Was there for a concert in their small staged area. A really nice venue with a bar.
N. G.
Amazing food. The place is very cosy. The staff is very nice. I enjoyed my time there. Not all of the options are vegan but most are. So it's a vegetarian and vegan cafe. The vegan options were delicious. Portions are generous.
M. D.
Great place for an intimate gig, Lizzie Reid and support Begona were sensational.
F. M.
really excellent food. spacious except for the events room. good atmosphere.
N. H.
First time visiting & definitely won't be the last. I'm a meat eater but I have to say the vegan fry up was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had! The chilli beans & seaweed salted potatoes were my favourite part along with the sourdough bread. Delicious!
S. H.
Beautiful community venue that supports the arts - great intimate venue for music, great bar with friendly staff
L. C.
Wee gem of a place - wide variety of beers (including Williams Brothers on tap!) and fairly priced. The kitchen up the back does some really awesome thai (? East asian anyway) food too. I'll be back for sure!
I. B.
Great place with the music venue attached one of Glasgow's best kept secrets
S. S.
Absolutely lovely staff, I was running an errand for someone hoping to get some merch from a gig and they we very friendly and helpful. Taking the time to get back to me so we could get something arranged. Which we did!
D. L.
Great pizzas, reasonably too.......loverly !
H. S.
I came here for breakfast. The service was good but in my opinion based on the food I had, nothing particularly special.
A. S.
Nice place, good service but wondering what happened to the food post-lockdown? We used to always get a vegan breakfast there with super nice pickled beans, vegan black pudding, nice thick-crusted bread and some cool spicy tiny mushrooms. Went back after it reopened and somehow the current vegan breakfast is completely disappointing, a sad slice of bread, plain mushrooms a generic Linda McCartney sausage. Much smaller too.
As much as I don't like to be a "back in my day" kind of complainer, it really has got much worse! Either way, still a nice place, just won't be recommending the food anymore.
M. M.
Tasty pizza. Dog friendly, with friendly service.
A. G.
Food was great, atmosphere was great. My partner and I were in for brunch last week and the cafe had good food to offer. The menu wasn't large (which I sometimes find better) and I was a little afraid I wouldn't fine something I liked (I can be a little picky sometimes) but alas I found something from the day menu and my other half found something from the menu that used to only be served in the evening. I think it was a great idea to always have the two running. There is more variety.
M. M.
The Glad Cafe is so much more than just a cafe. It is one of my favourite spots for catching up with friends as the late opening hours are fantastic for someone like me, whose schedule doesn't cooperate with traditional cafe opening times. The atmosphere in there is always friendly and welcoming. Oh, and the standup comedy night that runs monthly is a great outing too!
M. D.
It's a Social Enterprise, and all the better for it. Open mic night on the first Sunday of the month is always a good night. Loads of other stuff and gigs on too. Home baked cakes, good food, nice coffees, choice of draught lager, beer and cider interesting too. Nothing not to like. Wish we lived closer....
D. M.
The Glad cafe is one of the best places for coffee in shawlands and also they have a great selection of beers and ipas. Their staff are really friendly, they have a great food menu too with lots of veggie options. They have really good music nights and an overall fun atmosphere. Would recommend.
R. J.
Great wee venue. Only stopped in for a few coffees but they also serve various beers lagers and spirits. I understand they also offer hot food until 4pm. Many live Events to be had too. Music, poets, quiz etc. Will be coming back really nice atmosphere.
C. O. (.
cool spot, look forward to drinks in here some night
A. K.
Love the Glad. Such a cool place at any time of day. Most recently I have enjoyed breakfast here. I was a little indecisive with the menu so just picked the French toast as a quick choice. So glad I did! I was amazing! Loved it. I recommend it with the caramelised bananas, cinnamon and cream.
F. B.
A great place to work, read, or see friends. Really good brunch food by Hen of the Woods, and a nice selection of cakes. Lots of space and tables. Nice cosy yet spacious environment, I like to tuck myself away there for a few hours as often as I can.
M. M.
Great selection of Wines beers, food is fresh and delicious.
M. H.
Apple vegan cake and oat milk coffees were had. They didn't disappoint and will be going back for more. They have a great space there for music and other events such as movie nights, which gets utilised very well indeed. They also have a great selection of games to play such as checkers, backgammon and chess (pieces available with a small deposit). In the corner they have a small open kitchen where you can order and watch your food being cooked fresh, it's always been delicious. Next door, but still part of the cafe, is a small shop charity shop selling cool clothes and shoes for men and women. Over all a great community space and I would go back
G. K.
Went to see a gig featuring Doghouse Roses.
Drank beer and ate great pizza.
Result!
D. T.
Great breakfasts here. On my first visit I had the full breakfast and the second visit I had the savoury stack. Both plentiful and really tasty. Great and attentive service too.
A. D. S.
Had coffee and cake after work, both great. Also had a few pints - very good selection of beers on tap. Also the Vietnamese street food served in the evening is excellent - something a bit different. Staff are friendly and efficient.
E. W.
Really great place. Large menu selection with good vegetarian and vegan selections. Also great beer options. Specials all looked delicious. Service and staff were excellent, I would absolutely recommend this place.
A. F.
Great food and great coffee. Plenty of choice for vegetarians and vegans. Service is sometimes quite slow. Great for young kids as there are plenty of high chairs, it's accessible for buggies and has decent baby changing facilities.
G. M.
It's just a spoonful of delicious-wonderful this place. I don't think there is another cafe bar where the space has been thought about so intricately to create a calm and pleasant experience at all times of the day whilst also hosting live events! More power to the Glad
A. J.
Went to a gig in the glad cafe. In its self its really nice, smelt like the food would be awesome but as a gig venue not so good on this occasion. The heat was overwhelming. It was packed. Last minute tickets had been released on a gig that was supposedly sold out two days before! Id think twice about going back for a gig. May pop in for food.
R. B.
Low key place to hangout. They have live music in the back on a regular basis. Good place for brunch/lunch and to enjoy a good drink from the beer fridges on a weekend
M. H.
Id heard nothing but great things about this place. And the social enterprise angle is something that appealed to me.
Unfortunately I was a little disappointed. The place has a great vibe and a great beer selection. I was however just in for coffee and cake and neither really hit the mark. The coffee was a little bitter and the cake a bit dry.
P. C.
By far one of the best cafes/places to eat/chill out in the area. The coffee is actually made properly. Flat was spot on and not burnt in any way. The food was also amazing. Definitely worth a visit if you're near it. Really friendly staff as well.
D. T.
What a venue. Such a fun mix of music, food, coffee and booze. The glad has done a fantastic job of creating a welcoming atmosphere with space to socialise, work and relax.
N. B.
Brilliant café on the southside. Regularly get a good coffee in taking in a nice atmosphere during the day. The food is fab as well with plenty of veggie or vegan options. Lots of interesting music and events make for a great evening atmosphere as well.
c. m.
Great cafe with such a great food and drinks menu - friendly service and such a relaxed atmosphere 😍
P. G.
Great place. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Very enjoyable. Staff helpful and friendly. I'm a regular down there. Some cracking gigs as well. Even baby/ toddler friendly. Give it a go !
P. W.
Great coffee and amazing ambience
and a good choice of beers for but all cakes had nuts so no cake for me or anyone else with nut allergies. Great choice for vegans and celiacs, so just one cake without nuts would be a good idea.
F. W.
Great venue all round. Gigs, comedy nights, pop up kitchens, coffee and beverages.
The staff are very welcoming and friendly.
The food was pretty good too. The night we visited it was Babu's Mumbai kitchen's turn to cook. It was quite tasty but didn't leave us very impressed, mainly due to the fact that we'd been spoiled for the preceding three months on the subcontinent. Best of luck to the project and long may it continue and prosper. Namaste
G. L.
Always a very good vibe in the Glad cafe, but the addition of the excellent chef from Detroit, cooking absolutely fantastic Asian style food (with great veggie choices) makes this a top place to eat out on the southside of Glasgow.
A. C.
Glad Cafe is more of a "social hub" than an actual cafe / pub / restaurant / venue. Depending what time of day you go there you could be having eggs served in one of a dozen different ways, sandwiches, Asian food or simply a coffee or a beer. Child friendly, Glad is a great place to go with family during the day, or with friends at night for a good choice of beers and the chance of catching one of Glasgow's up and coming music acts.
H.
Great place, nice relaxed vibe. A cafe, a bar and a venue a little bit tight on space when busy. Nice drink selection with a well stocked craft beer fridge. Overall a great south side hangout.
A. G.
Loved this little niche cafe in shawlands area. Great decor and fantastic grub. A must for anyone passing through the area. Wish I managed to get a photo as any description I give would not give it any justice. They now have 2 menus to choose from for the r most if the day. One with lighter bites... Toasties etc the other with warmer stylised foods like braised beef. I couldn't fault the place other that it may harder to fnd something for the kids to enjoy. On a side note, if you have any difficulties in getting around or are with an elderly person or disabled person thus may not be the place. No accessible toilets, small entrance way the toilets that are available are up 3 stairs.
M. G.
Lovely cafe, serving a variety of cakes (lots gluten free) and beers on tap. Also has a fridge full of different beers to take home. The gluten free chocolate ginger cake was lovely
C. D.
OMG this place is wonderful. We had the best breckfast here. A must go if your in Glasgow. The building is really nice too. It's welcoming and quirky. So happy with our choice.
G. G.
I love this place! They do some amazing work.
Not to mention the food and beer.
They also have the coolest wee vintage shop attached and the customer service is second to none.
If in South side you should check them out
B. M.
Incredible food at fantastic prices. Great service and excellent quality
J. C.
Just love this place. Amazing atmosphere with great food and such a variety of gigs.
Great place to catch up with friends

Dog friendly, great choice of beers, splendid coffee served by skilled barista people. What more could you want?!

The service was slow as they were busy. When served staff were pleasant enough. Food was absolutely ace, especially the vegan breakfast!
S. H. C. (. B.
Excellent for a quiet lunch, a good night out or a gig in the back room. Food is moderately priced, drinks are cheaper than lots in the area. Comfy couches and warm decor.
G. S.
This should be five stars. I have no dea how you interpreted it otherwise? The Glad Cafe is an excellent resource in every way and has a lovely ambience whatever time of day you visit. It is friendly to all ages and there something for everyone.
J. A.
Always a joy to visit The Glad Cafe. My choice of breakfast was absolutely delicious (eggs, lentils, spinach, feta....) Sadly I had no room left for cake... will just have to go back again! Thank you Glad Cafe. 😊
G. M. (.
Visited Something2@the glad Cafe. Both my wife and I were big fans of something when it was in Clarkston. So we knew what to expect, tasty and well presented food. Had the stornoway which is my favourite dish at Something. Portion sizes good and glad cafe has good character and nice environment to sit and have a relaxing breakfast.
K. R.
Nice venue for an 'acoustic' gig. But expensive for booze.
L. t.
What a brilliant find this was! Came for some folky music and wasn't disappointed. Nice café style in front and leads through to a venue behind. Fair selection on the bar and great sound too. What's not to like.
b. b.
'Sammy's Acoustic Open Mike' at 8pm on the first Sunday of the month was not Sammy's, not acoustic and did not begin at 8pm.
A resident group/band complete with drummer and electrically amplified guitars hogged virtually all of the first half, only to reveal during the interval that there were no more slots left for common types such as open mike performers.
Apparently people start gathering at 7.30, and if you want to claim a performance slot, this is the time for you to show up. . .
Some nice draught beers, a chill cabinet with its lights out, but not many customers buying anyway.
Perhaps the electrically enhanced hosts could try playing Merle Haggard's 'I Think I'll Just Stay Here and Drink'
C. D.
Great food, great ambience. Their noodles with peanuts and chilli, even served cold is epic. Their cakes aren't bad either!
S. H.
Both arts and music venue and café, this place is a hippyish lofi space with friendly unobtrusive staff who do table service.
The café has a small menu that nevertheless caters to various diets (meat eaters, vegans and coeliacs). You'll find lots of literature here promoting various events, community workshops, local businesses etc.
At night, gigs, other performances and screenings are hosted in a medium-sized back room which has its own small bar. I've seen numerous folk musicians and experimental musicians play here, and the sound and lighting was great. They also screen major sports events, e.g. the World Cup, so it's not just an arts space.
A. W.
Really chilled place - run as a community project. They generally have some good home baking available. They do lunches too - and stay open late. I would recommend it.
D. M.
A little gem of a place with a great atmosphere, great menu and friendly staff. They often have events on, so keep and eye out for something happening!
J. C.
First choice for our visits to the south side. Dog friendly is always nice but Glad has rhe added bonus of plenty of space to tuck our enormous greyhound out of everyone's way so we're not having to constantly monitor him and apologise to people!
C. W.
Dog friendly, great choice of beers, splendid coffee served by skilled barista people. What more could you want?!
N. H.
This is my local and I love it. Great choice of drinks and you can normally always get a seat. There's also the added comedy value of overhearing some hilarious hipster conversation.
J. C.
Just love this place. Amazing atmosphere with great food and such a variety of gigs.
Great place to catch up with friends
L. M.
Great dog friendly cafe. Top notch vegan food. The mushroom & cashew nut curry was delicious!
N. L.
Really nice Asian Street food in the corner. Chef takes orders, cooks, and does the money at a million miles an hour, my heart goes out to his multitasking and brilliant food.
L. H.
Superb vegan food, great coffee and tasty cakes. Staff are always super friendly, dogs are welcomed and its a good place to work from
S. K.
Friendly staff, excellent service, great food and homely atmosphere to boot. Also great for families, at breakfast and lunch or brunches. When I was there there were there were at least two families with small babies.
D. D.
Live music, good choice of beers. Some vegan options available. Overall a quirky wee place with lots of events on offer.
M. M.
Loved it. Enjoyed a fabulous concert. Great menu and bar. Lots of gluten free choices.
P. J. H.
Friendly staff, great coffee, interesting food with great veggie options, unusual teas, eclectic surroundings and lovely table service
D. B.

Great ittle venue for food, beer and gigs. Small, friendly and quirky with some great draught and bottled wheat beers and a monthly pub quiz - and dog friendly too.
G. R.

H. M.
Good coffee great service and lovely cakes. Hope to visit for food soon. Family friendly and large space for bigger groups
D. T.
The place is always welcoming. My daughter and I with my two very young grandchildren were well waited on. The food was really excellent.
T. K.
The service was slow as they were busy. When served staff were pleasant enough. Food was absolutely ace, especially the vegan breakfast!
E. M. (. M.
Great atmosphere and lovely staff. Had a very enjoyable vegan lunch with friends here.
S. P.
Brilliant, quirky bar/venue/café. Very reasonably priced food and drink. Service is great. Nice quiet spot.
D. D.
Fair doos has nice food and that. But by the fact a significant portion of the staff are unpaid leaves a bitter aftertaste. Nevertheless it does manage to package itself as a socially beneficent organisation pretty well - despite the obvious problem of being built upon such exploitative foundations. So for good presentation I give it three stars.
M. M.
Great place to meet up with friends for drinks and food. Wonderful atmosphere with rising stars in music.
M. A.
Really nice burger, however 6 pounds for a bloody Mary is unreasonable, especially when it was in a small glass with loads of ice. Nice atmosphere in the day.
O. d.
Looked a nice place to eat, has a hidden back room for bands, excellent small size venue.
J. S.
Comfortable cafe with excellent drink selection. I like the way you can spend hours here and not feel pestered to get in and out.
M. S.
Absolutely excellent food, well priced. I can recommend the Fried egg dish. Nice atmosphere as well.
E. S.

S. B.
Excellent new addition to Glasgow's Southside - delicious homecooked food, fantastic selection of beer, wine & spirits and a live venue with a regular & varied music schedule.
J. L.
Always brilliant food with nice service, busy on the weekends but perfect for a mid week sit in :) I review lots of Southside Glasgow brunch on Instagram @justjasjas
R. M.
A veery small venue that was really busy there seemed to be a bit of over booking . If your looking for an intimate place to see a gig this is it but can be a bit crowded
J. M.
Lovely place to eat and drink with a great little venue at the back for live music.
A. I.
It was average. Parking can be issue. Think this place is overrated but ok to visit and you might like it better than we did
M. M.
I went to see the amazing Kate Richey and was extremely impressed with the venue. The bar and cafe are lovely and I will definitely be back.
