Reviews of Buttercups Tearoom
A. H.
My partner took me for an Easter treat, and what a treat it was. I had a delightful 45 minutes walking round the pasture, in the sun, with the furry Emilio who was terribly cute. And a lovely chat with the very friendly, and knowledgeable, owner James.
The afternoon tea was delicious and generous and I had some animal therapy with the horses and the very excitable Missy. Absolutely lovely afternoon, can't wait to return. Thank you 😊
J. H.
We spent a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon visiting here as a treat for our daughter doing well in her exams. We booked afternoon tea and walk with the alpacas and were not disappointed. The farmer who attended us was a pleasure to be with, very knowledgeable and chatty and much to our amusement and delight we discovered what entertaining characters the alpacas are! Many thanks
A.
We did a high tea and alpaca walk at Buttercups and what a fun day it was! We started off with the alpaca walk which was muddy and wonderful! The alpacas are very cute and it was nice to spend some time with them in the outdoors! We then headed into the lovely barn type building for some afternoon tea. There was good variety and everything was tasty. The service was good and the owners are really lovely. Some good food, time outdoors and good service for £30! A really nice day out! Would recommend!
B. A.
Nice and quiet place, very suitable for the family for breakfast.
L. R.
Polite staff, good service, never understood why such a big building for a tea room, lot of wasted space. Nice though, clean and tidy.Am editing this as have had a chat with owner, lovely chap, it's the size it is as it is a barn conversion, it can seat up to 100 people, also it enables them to have good spacing between table in the current climate. There are other things on site also. Really is worth a visit.

A lovely place to visit the tearoom is spacious and airy and the food is very good value. It is outshone only by the animals who are clearly well cared for and very relaxed around visitors. A unique experience!
M. G.
Quaint little Tearoom, very spacious with indoor and outdoor seating. Plants on the tables needed a water and prices are quite expensive but otherwise a nice little place. You can buy a bag of animal food for £1 :)
P. J.
Been on the radar for a while, finally got there today. Really nice spacious place with good food at a decent price. In a lovely setting surrounded by all sorts of Animals. The bonus for me as a biker was the road to get there from Melton 😊
M. P.
Just passing so dropped in for coffee and cake. Good decision. Alpacas, mule, horses, goats and cattle in fields and stalls. Good shop with all manner of goods for sale. Highly recommend you visit for excellent experience 👍

We went here to see the Santa's grotto. It was absolutely spectacular! Very well organised by the staff and a lovely range of gifts for the little ones to choose from at the end. Was so impressed and very covid safe with distancing and ventilation. (One family at a time).
We had lunch in the cafe afterwards, it was delicious, big portions and the service was so friendly and quick. The tables are hugely spaced out in a massive room that feels like sitting in a school hall, so we felt very safe.
The staff were brilliant on the phone when arranging our visit and went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed for our visit.
J. P.
First time visiting, beautiful veiws of the countryside. Plenty of parking, dog training available but not sure how you go about that. Clean and spacious dining area. We saw reserved tables and cream teas available if you ordered in advance. Toilets were clean and modern. There was an Emporium with lots of things available and farm animals to see. Definately going back.
A. B.
Lovely rural tea room to visit. Also a craft barn with lots of different sellers and items. Seating inside or outside the restaurant. Good food and service. Would recommend.
S. P.
Another visit & took a friend who did not know about Buttercups. They will go again. Great to see the animals out in the fields. Food 1st class also staff. Went into the gift shop again for more buttons for my knitted blanket.I could have spent more time & money there. Thank you all.
S. G.
The weather was perfect - a warm sunny day in early spring- but so was the venue. The large and airy barn that food is served in made us feel comfortable in these uncertain times coming out of covid restrictions Lots of space
And the views ! On top of a hill in High Leicestershire we could see for miles. Surrounded by paddocks of cute lamas too.
But we had come for coffee and cake. That didn’t disappoint. The usual choice of artisan coffees, teas and hot chocolate served up with a sensibly sized ( I didn’t feel obliged to share!) slice of yummy cake. Again lots of choice. I had courgette and avocado while mum had the Jaffa cake orange. Scrummy
M. M.
One of the best full English breakfast I have had in a long time, every single item in that plate was cooked to perfection and tasted amazing, and when it was served every item in the plate was warm and delicious.
Beautiful sorrounding, lots of tables available, there is a small play area available for kids, nice cosy place and waiter and waitresses are friendly and very attentive.
You can see Alpacas and they offer,
Alpaca walk:
Adult £18 - Under 15s £12
Alpaca walk with afternoon tea:
Adult £27.50 - Under 15s £20

We have had a wonderful day out today at the Buttercups tearoom Alpaca walking. Amazing fun from start to finish, didn't stop laughing all the way around. Good for all ages. Great way for social distancing and good outdoor exercise. We were looked after by James the owner who was fantastic. We really recommend this as a fun day out. Had a lovely lunch in the tea room afterwards.
E. D.
Brilliant afternoon. Would highly recommend.
G. H.
A new tea room - nice selection of lite bites with cakes to follow. Very nice addition is the gift and craft shop.
N. P.
Very enjoyable for afternoon tea/coffee & lovely cakes! Spacious, so no social distancing issues, in a beautiful rural setting. There is also an interesting & unusual shop attached, with local crafts & vintage wares. But, best of all, for me, are the Llamas, Alpacas, Goats, Geese, Pigs etc, which are adorable! Alpaca walking is on offer, too!
C. M.
We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea after a visit to see Santa. Santa's grotto was lovely where my granddaughter loved the animals. She was able to choose a nice present. The afternoon tea was delicious. The tea room is spacious and clean. A lovely afternoon was had.
S. B.
The homemade cakes are lovely but breakfast should be served all day otherwise its just sandwiches, toasted sandwiches or jacket potatoes which is a shame as the potential is phenomenal. Especially as there isn't any competition near by.
D. N.
Fantastic place, clean and tidy. Very kids friendly, v funny animal farm to keep children amused. Yes visit.
M. K.
Lovely quaint place with alpaca'a rocking about outside! Children friendly too - so back next week with some friends to get more coffee and cake!
J. H.
We enjoyed our lunch there. They serve gluten free and have a small play area which my 4 year old daughter loved. Will definitely return!
R. B.
Lovely place to enjoy nice food and see a variety of interesting animals and views of the countryside. Friendly and helpful staff.
T. H.
We really enjoyed our visit. The staff were very friendly and the homemade cakes were delicious. We also liked the gift barn. It was full of lovely things, many handmade. And of cowe loved seeing the llamas and alpacas.
Highly recommend a visit.
C. R.
Lovely place, food is tasty and a good price, kids will love all the farm animals (adults too 😉)
A. “. D.
Love this fabulous, friendly quirky place. Staff are so relaxed and friendly the food is spot on especially the breakfast. They offer afternoon tea which is for the next visit we make. They have an adjoining barn converted into an interesting gift shop which is a co-operative of local craft makers or businesses. Well worth a little visit. Great find 💖
B. D.
Great place for lunch or breakfast. It has a big car park, indoor soft play for the kids and outdoors play too.
M. N.
SL5er's thank you for welcoming us. We thoroughly enjoyed our Coffee and Cake afternoon stop.
B. G.
Lovely friendly staff. Great place to have an afternoon tea, with cake of course.
S. P.
It was lovely and quaint with a smashing little shop next to it. It's worth a visit
C. A.
Had the most amazing time at Buttercup tea rooms. The alpaca walk with James was fantastic he looked after everyone so well!! Will definitely be coming back. Afternoon tea was also perfect.
J. L.
Spacious modern barn with a mixture of tables and comfortable sofas and chairs. Very Good food and servi. Prices are not over the top either. Would definitely go again when in the area. There's a variety of animals to see as well - llamas, alpacas, horses, goats & geese. You can do alpaca trekking, apparently. There's a craft gift shop on the same site too. We'll with a visit.
n. c.
Lovely place to take a break.
Good selection of meals and snacks.
Definitely visit again.
s. b.
Lovely place, first visit. Good selection of cakes
K. P.
Easy to find just off the A47 on road to Melton. Plenty of parking. Lovely spacious room & easy access toilets. Tables are well spaced. Had to order at till so could be a bit slow if busy.
Food was good - sandwiches, panini's, jackets. Usual fillings. Crisps with lots of options, but only ready salted.
Outside seating available too. Various animals to be seen - horses, ponies, alpacas, goats, pigs. Just gives it an added attraction.
t.
Lovely place for a light bite/drink. Plenty of seating available inside and outside. Outdoor seating is adjacent to Animal paddocks with llamas, alpacas and ponies. Lovely views. Nice area to bring the kids too.
J. B.
Visit here frequently with my partner and children. Fantastic place. Great food and drinks (they do lovely kiddies lunchboxes) the children love all the animals and we always have a look around the dairy barn shop too. Highly recommend for a family few hours out
C. W.
Impressive barn conversion in a lovely part of the countryside. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.
W. y.
A fantastic tearoom with plenty of room. The food was very fresh and tasty. Will definitely visit again.
J. K.
Fantastic great fast service a must visit place,
Tea and cakes great prices.
Thank you so much.
M. P.
A lovely visit to see Santa with grandchildren. A great breakfast to follow! Lots of animals to see. Well worth a visit.
A. c.
Lovely place to go to. Peaceful and busy. Cakes are delicious. Very spacious. Kids as well as adults would love all the animals they have. I will certainly go again. Not too far from home either. 😀 👍
M. S.
Excellent service, all tables cleaned as people left, but need more staff behind counter
H. L.
Nice friendly place to visit lovely location plenty of space easy access good food reasonably priced
M. T.
This a a beautiful and friendly place. This is a working farm, with llamas, goats, horses, pigs... All set up so you can see them easily, you can also book a walk with the llamas. The tea room is set in a converted barn, and finished beautifully with wood panelling, and is spacious and feels very welcoming and comfortable. The lunch menu is simple, but prepared well, and they use quality ingredients which is reflected in the taste, with jacket potatoes, toasted sandwiches etc available.
The highest praise goes to the staff. This was a favourite place of a friend of ours, while he was having cancer treatment they prepared special orders and deliveries, and made him feel at home. We recently had his memorial there, and the staff again excelled themselves. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
E. C.
Lovely food and atmosphere. We just adore the cheeky alpacas, donkeys and pigs that are on site. Loads of free parking and a barn next door with gifts and nic nacs to browse after that jam scone and cuppa! Worth a visit
P.
This place is so cute! Good food. Would recommend.
R. W.
Very plesant. Tasty afternoon Tea. Friendly helpful staff.
C. T.
Lovely place for a cup of tea and bite to eat
S. H.
Lovely spacious indoor tea room: in what looks to be a renovated barn. Lots of space outside too with gazebo cover. Service a tad slow but guess we arrived at a busy time, cake makes up for it.
B. G.
Friendly staff, great location and dog friendly too.
K. W.
Absolutely love this place. I have taken my children a few times now and they always have a great time. Lovely animals, great soft play area and nice out door toys too. Staff have always been lovely and food is always delicious. We will be visiting again.
J. W.
It's always a pleasure to go to Buttercups, the staff are always so helpful and friendly, just what you need when you go out. The views are amazing and the animals add to the beauty of the place.
H. P.
Great afternoon out. Lots of space. We thoroughly enjoyed our walk with two very entertaining alpacas followed by a huge afternoon tea. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend a visit. We will be going back!
I. D.
Brilliant to get to know the animals and taste the ice-cream. The only criticism is that the prices of cakes and ice-cream are not on the items or the menu.
F. V.
Fabulous place, great for young kids but spacious enough to avoid them if you want. Great indoor and outdoor play area for littlies, with posh toilets. The owners have really invested in the place. Ample parking. Friendly staff. Lots of animals to see. We visit often and love it!
j. u.
Airy and modern with friendly staff. They do a great full English breakfast but while the open plan is great for kids it lacks any intimacy. Also the best views are only visible from the kitchen area. A wasted opportunity.
K. D.
Alpaca tracking was lovely, John was so welcoming and knowledgeable. We went to the tea rooms for a drink after and it was very clean, very spacious and reasonably priced. Would definitely go back again.
H. D.
Great addition to the local area!
I recently visited Buttercups and it was a great discovery!! We had jacket potatoes which were very tasty and very generous portions! The cakes and afternoon teas all looked amazing too.
The barn is beautiful and lots of thought and consideration has gone into the little touches and decor.
A great atmosphere with very friendly, helpful staff. I overheard they are holding private functions which I think is a lovely idea!
We’ll be back!!
R. M.
Good selection of pleasant reasonably priced food & drink suitable for lunch, morning/afternoon tea. Pleasant staff, tables well spaced and obviously Covid aware.
C. D.
Lovely place with good food and friendly staff
R. D.
Lovely quiet location surrounded by animals and countryside. Food, drink and tables all top class. A pleasure to visit.
S. R.
We went as a family to see Santa. Unfortunatley, but understandably, we all couldn't go in with the grandchildren to meet the Big Man. Just ratio of one child and one adult which we appreciated. The whole thing was set up really well and the gifts the children recieved were chosen by the child. The craft market was an added extra we hadn't anticipated. The grandchildren and the rest of the family enjoyed the whole event including feeding the animals and having a take away coffee. Thankyou Buttercups Tearooms you did us proud - yet again.
R. W.
Lovely tearoom in a rural setting with the added bonus of animals to view on the farm and a soft play for the children. Friendly staff, delicious food with vegan and gluten free options available. They are also dog friendly!
K. M.
We have just had a fantastic cream tea at this wonderful place , fabulous service , beautiful environment .There was a great choice for vegetarians and vegan diets . Added bonus I’m a real animal lover there is a variety of goats ,horses and alpaca to see and enjoy . There is also lovely shop where I was able to purchase of few bargains from ... a wonderful time was had by all 🌟we will be back very soon 😀.
D. G.
Great service, tasty food, nice rural location.
d. C.
Lovely to see the Alpacas today will be back to try your tea room
J. O.
Ahhh, this is a fairly new, off the beaten track coffee shop that I don't want anyone else to know about. I'm sure the owners would disagree!... It is set in a large revamped barn, but has a beautiful outlook over fields & in those fields are llamas & Alpaca's... They have a lovely though small craft shop where you can find some little gems of gifts. I love it & purely from a selfish point of view (I know!) wouldn't want the tranquility spoiled by mass human invasion!!!😁
T. B.
Smallville is amazing for the children and the effort they put in for seeing Santa was brilliant
m. 1.
Wednesday 15th July we were out on our motorcycles for a jolly, doing a 300 hundred mile round trip from Norwich. Needing a lunch stop for refreshments, I picked Buttercups Tearoon from Google maps, as it seemed the perfect midway stop.
A large converted barn which makes the perfect setting for social distancing. There is a large car park just off the B6047 with easy access. Clean and spacious with great food and coffee at reasonable prices, makes an even better reason to stop for lunch.
We would certainly visit again when in the area, but a little disappointed the breakfast menu stopped at 11am.
A. P.
Great place for both adults and children. Friendly staff and service. Good food too.
K. S.
Lovely place and will most definitely be returning. Staff were very warm and helpful. Lovely little soft play area for the little ones. Look forward to returning in the warmer months aswell to look around more outside

K. S.
Lots and lots of space and excellent COVID prevention practices. But that would mean nothing unless the coffee and cake was also excellent. It was. Alongside brilliant service. Who could ask for more?
