If I had to make the choice of which coffee shop was the best in Leicester, it would be a difficult one. It would be like choosing who is the better singer, Ellie Goulding or Lana Del Rey. The Coffee Counter is the Ellie Goulding of the coffee world: bright, contemporary and full of flavour. It is, as the owner can attest to, a roastery first and foremost. Supplying its beautifully roasted beans to the many artisan coffee shops around Leicester. The Coffee Counter is a leader in its field. It has been around since the 80s and has shone its leading light for many others to follow. I’m sure it’s why the independent coffee scene is so mature in Leicester. The coffee scene in Leicester is a humbling experience. It’s arguably brighter than the one in Birmingham. Hopefully it’s a light that will never go out.

What a hidden gem! Look at the hard work that has gone into this basement! The staff are so welcoming because I walked in looking lost haha! You should put a sign saying 'Seating area down stairs!' (unless i missed that!) I'm fully enjoying the vibe down here at the moment. The food and coffee is quality. Also to mentioned, the cheese and chilli sandwich is a must try!

I drink plenty of coffee here & I can easily say this is the best coffee in Leicester. Staff are friendly & knowledgeable. (Try the single origin options my favourite is the Ethiopian)

Great 1st experience - best coffee I've had out the house, a very rich hot white chocolate & a light, buttery (slightly eggy in the right way) croissant. Lived up to the reviews. Polite Staff with good recommendations for inexperienced coffee drinkers. The flat white I had was very smooth, smooth enough that I didn't use sugar to balance bitterness till the end (to see what more I could taste). A warning - the hot white chocolate is very nice, with good (tastes like Madagascan) vanilla notes. But is rich aswell as sweet (contrary to most places) it's perhaps a higher percentage of cacao butter(white chocolate). Crossiant was reheated to order, soft and fluffy inside. Tasted like it was made on site. On of the better croissants I've had from a coffee shop.

Excellent coffee and a delicious range of food. The coffee here is roasted on the premises and is definitely a cut above the rest. The toasted sandwich I had was made with artisan bread and generous slices of cheese, accompanied by a side salad. The picture below shows my flat white. This place is top notch and no more expensive than any other cafe.

Nice little independent coffee place in Leicester which we always use. Also buy their ground coffee for home and work - their different blends have really brought out my appreciation and enjoyment for coffee (and a few of my colleagues!). Highly recommended whether you visit the counter or buy their coffee online.

My favourite place in the town!!! I discovered it today and it became my first choice when it comes to good coffee! The barista was friendly and helpful with information regarding coffee origins! All the staff are really friendly, the sandwiches are delicious, the coffee is amazing and the cakes are scrumptious. I went in with my family, ordered 3 coffee's, came back letter that day and ordered 3 more. The staff remembered us and pointed out they didn't give us a stamp card last time so gave us one this time and stamped off all the coffee's we had already had as well as the new ones.

Exceptionally good coffee for Leicester, would rate this as the number one in the city if you're looking for a genuine taste in a comfortable cozy environment, this is the place to be on a quiet afternoon. Well lit, comfortable seating, friendly staff, and a frequency based reward card. Cappucinos are excellent and I particularly recommend their filled croissants too.

I have been frequenting The Coffee Counter since it first opened. The standard of coffee has remained consistently good. The staff are very friendly. The barista which has remained the same is exceptionally skilled, the latte art is intricate. The freshly roasted bags of coffee they sell are also very reasonably priced especially when you factor in the free coffee on top!

Probably best in Leicester. There are others who do coffee pretty much as well (as in, really really well), but none who totally nail the whole experience as much: service has integrity, no snobbery, no postmodern irony, no fawning. Amazing food, particularly sandwiches. Good music, not too intrusive. Comfortable seats. Free wifi. Literally only criticism is the cutlery is cheap and could be more comfortable to hold. First world problems.

Went to try their pancakes which I found pretty disappointing. The coffee was great though and I really liked the vibe. Their cakes looked pretty good. Will be back to try something else, but can't recommend the pancakes which were dry and uninspiring.

The new smoothie bowl range is absolutely delicious and at a reasonable price too. Also, I usually don't like matcha lattes but they've definitely changed my mind. The staff are lovely. The only downside is that the service was a little bit slow. Overall, a great experience.

Places like this make you realise how much money you waste when you go into Costa. The Coffee Counter is the best coffee in Leicester. The staff take coffee seriously and make it with pride. Great selection from V60 drip to cold brew to espresso style. I've also eaten one of the savoury toasted croissants here which was delicious! And the interior/decor makes for a great atmosphere. I'm yet to buy beans/ground coffee for home from here but I certainly will.

Upon my travels I stepped foot in this humble hot beverage shop. An unlikely place for a shop of such nature I thought, but my interest was peaked so I ventured into said establishment. The cakes were plentiful and the coffee was Peng, 10/10 would go again. Also free WiFi and plug sockets.
