Reviews of Stokes High Bridge Café
B. T.
Excellent coffee in picturesque historical building. They have both a restaurant and takeaway side, with takeaway focused on drinks, pasties, and a few misc bakery items like muffins.
Coffee is excellent, service also good, though takeaway can be slightly slow.
K. L.
Very nice old building! Very helpful and lovely staff which let you enjoy your afternoon tea. I would say reasonable price as well. I was more than happy to leave them a tip as they really deserve that.
S. G.
I rate this place along side Betty's in Harrogate. Had steak and mushroom pie, mash with green beans. Coffee was fresh with a cup of tea. The building is a bridge over the river. A must visit is my thoughts on Stokes.
A. K.
Great place for a spot of lunch. The toasted sandwiches were lovely. Good service, would visit again.
B.
Went in Stokes High Bridge Cafe as this is oldest building in Lincoln and have quick lunch with tea as it was good.
10/10

Just had breakfast here. The downstairs is for lighter meals. However, staff were quick to notice my wife uses crutches and sorted us out a full menu. We were served by Charlotte who was absolutely lovely. A great start to our visit to Lincoln.

Coffee is ace. Best coffee in town. Food usually really good and high quality ingredients though had a couple average experiences of late. Last time I had a full English breakfast, the beans were cold. Staff member made me a cappuccino as an amicable resolution.
And their caramel latte is really nice, but for some reason they serve it in a glass with no handles, I think they should change it to a mug, I'd have asked, but I wasn't expecting it tbh. Needed to wait fie the glass to cool down before taking a sip.

We wanted to view this Tudor structure, the staff could not have been more accommodating as we didn't require either food or drinks. It is an amazing structure with many photos from renovations over 100 years ago. Thank you so much!
A. K.
Lovely cozy place. Delicious food and really huge portions fir a reasonable price. Super friendly and positive staff. Loved it! And plenty of a character from the building to complete the experience. Must to be visited when in Lincoln.
m. L.
Lovely little coffee shop . Good menu customer service was very good. Prices were good
K. J.
Loved this place and an excellent cup of tea and cooked breakfast had in a beautiful building.

Stokes' is well situated to capture passing trade in the High Street and is popular with tourists heading up the hill. It is sometimes great, more often than not it's busy and struggling to cope. Disappointing for such a high pedigree independent "Experience" café.
Book ahead. If you're seated upstairs with dedicated staff it appears things can be a little better. Downstairs on a busy day is a grubby affair with overrun staff. Orders can take considerable time to arrive and service is inconsistent.
The small store selling tea, coffee and accouterments is a particular joy and worth popping in to grab a bag of your favourite blends. There are blends for most tastes and a great selection of gifts/souvenirs for most tastes.
T. G.
Excellent service. Good food and coffee in wonderfully traditional surroundings
C. H.
Visited here for lunch for the first time today. The menu is great for lunch and the food was delicious. Had to knock off a few stars as the place was grubby, dirty tables and cutlery, smelly toilet, and just generally cluttered. If I visited again, I'd rather eat outside
A. F.
Lovely food and staff but we were never asked if we wanted anything else. All could hear is one employee moaning. Young staff member looked rushed off her feet as she was dealing with so much
S. S.
Lovely cafe in the heart of Lincoln City centre, overlooking the high street below, we had Stoke Black americano and Earl Grey with out lunch. High quality food, however the wait time was a little longer than I'd like, but compensated with professional, friendly staff and charming historic interior.
M. H.
Reasonable food fantastic setting. For me the setting was nicer than the food. Visited for lunch and thought that might last for the rest of the day but easily managed the stake pie and went elsewhere for dessert
M. Z.
Great service in a charming period establishment. We ordered scampi, the soup of the day, and a roasted vegetables omelette. Our waitress Miriam was amazing. Highly recommended if you visit Lincoln.
J. Y.
This is a good cafe/restaurant, the menu is good and the staff very welcoming, will definitely go again
N. G.
Amazing Café! Friendly staff and cosy environment. Great food to go with it. Look up the history of the café and bridge for a wholesome experience. A must if visiting Lincoln.
M. S.
I've been looking forward to visiting Stokes since I first found out I'd be coming to Lincoln nearly 6 months ago. I was not disappointed! Lovely quiche, excellent tea, friendly staff, and the perfect cozy atmosphere!
A. S.
Amazing breakfast, and for a good price too. Staff are friendly and professional. Glad I came in fairly early as it got busy quick - might be an idea to reserve in the future!

A HISTORIC MUST.
I always love this place. It has such a great feel due to its historic appearance, friendly attentive staff, great coffee (and teas if you're that way inclined) and wonderful food.
If you're a history buff this is a must see. If you love great coffee this is a must....... I could go on but you get it, it's a must.
Visit and enjoy.
W. H.
Amazing building, good coffee, excellent service. A bit congested because of layout and poor provision of toilets. But worth visiting, especially for the excellent Stokes Coffee
R. C.
Lovely setting tea rooms. Good service. Not a lot on the menu. They specialise in high end coffees they had one there at £9 per cafetiere.
D. R.
Lovely home made warm scone and coffee , what made the visit for us my friend is gluten free and she could also enjoy a scone .
Lovely quaint coffee shop and served by the lovely chatty Arthur thank you
R.
Since moving to Lincoln last year, I’ve wanted to try Stokes High Bridge Café. It looks so cute and quaint.
This weekend I got round to visiting and I really wasn’t overly impressed. The drinks seemed quite overpriced and I ordered the hot chocolate with cream priced at £3.25. When it arrived, it looked the part, but the cream had actually gone sour. I let the waiting staff know, who were really apologetic and made me a fresh hot chocolate. She explained they had no fresh cream left and asked if I wanted marshmallows instead, to which I said no thank you. It was handled well, but I was still charged for a hot chocolate with cream. The experience has put me off, and unfortunately I won’t be returning.
J. J.
Nice place for lunch. Classic afternoon tea was good. Nice friendly atmosphere. Would recommend.
S. F.
Use to visit this place with my Dad 30+ years ago, so good to see it still going strong. Three floors with great history, great smell of coffee as you enter. Stopped in for a light lunch and drinks, the menu was not extensive but okay. Great range of coffees and teas, some of which were on the menu 30 years ago.
C. C.
Lovely venue and great food. We had a super waitress who was very thoughtful as we had a small baby with us.
J. J.
Warm cheese scone and a pot of Earl Grey, with real tea leaves!!!!! Brilliant, staff friendly even though it was busy
J.
While on our trip to Lincoln we decided to visit Stokes High Bridge. We were not disappointed. We ordered a white hot chocolate, a pot of tea and scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve. The scones were served warm and were cooked perfectly, soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. The drinks were also very tasty. Staff looked very smart and were very helpful. The drinks were so nice we bought a bag of coffee to take home. I am looking forward to my next visit here.
C. C.
Lovely tea room with delicious food and really friendly staff. I can highly recommend the banoffee cake!!
K. V.
We visited Stokes earlier today and were very impresses from start to finish.Customer service is clearly a priority, every member of staff knew exactly what they were doing. We were allocated a table upstairs and Sophie was absolutely amazing. She has a lovely, bubbly personality and her enthusiasm to deliver a first class service was evident throughout. The coffee was superb, the teacakes were hot, plenty of butter and a tasty treat for a mid morning snack. Overall this was a great experience which we both thoroughly enjoyed and there is absolutely no question that whenever we vist Lincoln we will definitely return.
t. h.
Very nice food polite staff I needed to get inside in my wheelchair and they accommodated that for me nice place
R. M.
The black and white cafe that is literally on the bridge in Lincoln High Street. It's a fine old building in the centre of Lincoln, beware though, the stairs are old and difficult to climb!
Lovely service today by Miriam, who couldn't have been more helpful and attentive. Portion sizes do vary slightly, my Plum bread portion was just one slice. Great coffee, roasted locally. Overall, a pleasant place to visit. 😀
P. H.
Historic building over the river; food good although tourist prices.
S. H.
Lovely little shop/cafe! Some great coffee and tea selections, we got our favourite Blue Mountain coffee and I am looking forward to sampling my new tea.....the Grandad Peelies secret recipe blend! Laura was so welcoming and helpful, I am looking forward to our next visit!
B. B.
Very busy cafe, but staff are very good. Lovely food. Great place to sit and eat and people watch. Well done very good.
H. R.
Visited stokes today for lunch with my mum. We were served by Miriam who was very helpful and attentive despite it being busy. She check on us and made sure we were happy with our meal and drinks. Food was delicious, would definitely recommend
V. C.
So disappointed to have to drop a star in my review but my favourite tea shop has gone down a little in the last year for the first time I can ever remember, and I've been a loyal customer over 30 years!
It's fine for the average customer who usually drinks at high street chains, but I think the appeal of Stokes is as a traditional tea and coffee shop in look and feel.
I visited a week ago and was told by one member of staff that loose leaf tea is still available but only upon specific request. I requested this the next day only to be told by someone else they were unaware of this and only serve tea bags now! The reason given was that the loose leaf has to be done downstairs and it requires extra pots (tea and water pots plus strainer and dish). Stock some loose leaf upstairs please, I would happily pay a little more for this service.
The uniform has been modernised and I miss seeing the crisp black with white apron and also Adam who couldn't do enough for his customers! Service is still friendly but a little rushed. I also notice it is not as busy as it used to be, especially between 10.30 - 2.
The breakfast is not as good value since there is only one standard size as opposed to a smaller serving option and the bacon was not crispy enough. Either reduce the price a little or improve the quality. The saving grace still is Lincolnshire sausages - there is no better sausage around.
I do hope you listen to your long standing customers, as I notice a few have made similar comments. I now live 40m away but look forward to Stokes and all of the appeal of a historic cathedral city. I will be less inclined to visit now. The Stokes building deserves to remain quaint and historic inside and out - you owe it to Lincoln itself to keep up this historic partnership!
S.
Staffs were nice, food was awesome, quite pricey, but it was worth it!
M. T. (.
Unique setting with excellent service from very polite friendly staff. Home made coronation chicken sandwich was delicious along with a great coffee. Highly recommend, very popular, situated in a central position, great for people watching too.
V. E.
This is an historic place, very comfortable. The meal was quite tasty and very quick service
C. C.
My wife & myself had a snack today here at STOKES. The food was excellent & the presentation superb. We dined on the first floor & we must say that the staff were fantastic. We have eaten here a few times & either inside or at tables outside we both feel relaxed & have enjoyed each visit emmensly
Z. d. R.
We popped in because we loved the exterior of this building, and the menu & service lived up to expectations (in fact, we loved it so much, we went back the next day for lunch again!). Absolutely love this place, so cosy, friendly staff, and delicious (and super affordable) food. I particularly recommend the (festive) sausage roll and cauliflower soup. Yum!
K. W.
Lovely breakfast in a beautiful building. Friendly and welcoming staff.
J. A.
Nice staff food good... just not keen on drinking a latte in a water glass
D. C.
It's their service from their management that lets it down. Sister tried loads of times to get attention, but had to ask loudly for the bill, if we had that service before our tea and coffee, we would have walked out. Good food, short staffed.
J. H.
Incredible food and incredible service and a beautiful building my family and I visited two days in a row as we were highly satisfied by the whole experience would highly recommend if you find yourself in lincoln
M. C.
We called in for lunch 10 0ut of 10 for food and service will call again next time when we are in town 😀
J. M.
Amazing! Historical and interesting to have tea and the local plum bread with cheese... Sounds strange but the combination works.
g. h.
With family in Lincoln I used to go here as a kid so it was lovely to revisit this quirky old building and to enjoy their great white hot chocolate and homemade brownies
C. R.
Gorgeous building and such a nice coffee and cake selection, definitely worth popping in after an afternoon of shopping :)
K. C.
As usual, brilliant food and drink.
Sure never to disappoint. Friendly athmosphere.
J. W.
Lovely café and food was delicious but a cup of tea was a little on the expensive side
M. W.
This cafe is quaint. It has efficient friendly staff with good food and drinks.
C. T.
Lovely prompt service, had coffee and a teacake, it was very good
C. K.
Quaint little building with a lovely selection of food and drinks. Not an awful lot of space inside but that's due to the buildings age and character. Service on that particular day was a little slow but food was very tasty!
l. p.
Waited a while for food, when they did start bringing food to the tables one was 5 mins after everyone else had received theirs. Staff were polite and friendly. Organised chaos getting a table. We needed two due to large party. Was told we have to nice window seats for you all. Happy with this we went to the 2nd floor to find the window seats had a panel in-between and you couldn't talk to the next table. Luckily for me it was only the inlaws. Phew!
C. H.
Beautiful building! Would recommend, the food was great and the staff where lovely!
S.
I had a really nice time, wish there was some vegan cake options but happy with the scone and flapjack
K. H.
It’s a very nice place to come and eat and drink at. Had to move from one table as I felt we weren’t being noticed for the waitress to take our food. Prices are reasonable and the food nice, my toasted sandwich could’ve been a bit hotter, but it was a busy day we went. Find the cafetière prices a bit steep, so I chose just individual lattes. The decor of the building makes up for the issues.
Z. S.
Very helpful staff, lots of varieties of teas and coffee. A very special building.
J. M.
Nice friendly staff & nice seating area outside to people watch with a coffee on a sunny day ☕ not the cheapest of places but no complaints regarding food or staff.. 😁😁
A.
Quick service, food was lovely would go back again.
A. L.
Coffee great but the ground floor cafe to small if you have a wheelchair no chance of safe distance
T. W.
I last came here as a seven year òld with my grandmother fifty years ago, it has changed very little. We booked afternoon tea. The staff were all very nice. And whilst the afternoon tea was filling and quite good it wasn't anything to rave about. The fruit scones were excellent but the mince pies were out of a box as were the slices of Xmas cake neither of us were keen on the quiche ( but that may just be our pretences) the bread appeared to be from a mass produced bakery which was ok but on the whole I would have expected more " home baked produce" if this was for a school lesson it would be marked as "good effort but please try harder"
R. E.
Quite crammed but not much they can do about that. Coffee was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely come again and certainly worth visiting for those who haven't.
E. S.
On Wednesday the 09/02/2022 my sister and I went to the Stokes cafe as we were early for an appointment we were welcomed in and shown to a table , we asked for a black coffee for me and a very hot chocolate for my sister and I had a toasted teacake, the hot chocolate was just what my sister wanted and she really enjoyed it,My coffee was lovely and the toasted was just as good, we were served by a lovely gentleman named Arthur a delightful young man the whole experience was wonderful our first time at the cafe but not our last.
A. S.
Great coffee and tea cake In a amazing old building above the river witham
j. c.
We had toasted sandwiches .was average but must have been last weeks lettuce old and limp .not very clean .would not go again
S. M.
Amazing coffee and cake (lemon drizzle was to die for)
The building is steeped in history and really adds to the appeal of this lovely cafe. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. A must if you are in Lincoln.
J. h.
Yeah class, me and two pals went in today (3/7/2021): We managed to get in before it got busy enough to form a line outside, which is what we saw when leaving. Inside it is fantastically reminiscent of a historic ship (Like the Victory), with its narrow staircases and rooms. The food was, of course, far superior to that you'd have on a naval vessel: I ordered the mushrooms on ciabatta as a "brunch" meal. The service was great, they have a fantastic selection of hot drinks and the serving was fair for the price, but you pay for the ambience and the quality of the food served. Overall... Nice one, would eat there again, might even make it a more regular thing if I become more affluent.
J. M.
Thank you me and my friend enjoyed our coffee and cakes and was very pleased you do vegan and well definitely be coming back again and we had great service by Arthur.
S. D.
We had afternoon tea for my birthday my daughter in law is gluten free the staff was very helpful getting all the right things for her which wasn't easy with it being just after new year and there delivery hadn't arrived.
L. H.
A beautiful building steeped in history, tea and scone exceedingly good and thoroughly enjoyed meeting Arthur just one of the very friendly members of staff.
B. P.
I had a lovely time here, my partner and I enjoyed our coffee and cake! We were served by Arthur who was excellent!! Would come back again!!
J. R.
Went for lunch brilliant food lovely staff
C.
mini donuts with sauce is good choice for small bites 👍
S. M.
Lovely setting nice choice of food. Friendly staff
A. T.
Best coffee in town and enjoyed a lovely light lunch.
A. H.
Poor service. Other customers who arrived after us were served first. Teaspoon was diry stained. When I mentioned it the waitress replaced it with another dirty and stained spoon! Stokes, you need to deep clean all spoons. On the bright side. The coffee was fabulous and the toasted tea cake was scrumptious!
E. W.
Lovely cafe! My partner and I got the vegan cheese and spinach toasty, a portion of chips and the vegan apple and rhubarb crumble, and all were to a satisfying standard. Excellent stop off after a day of working!
C. V.
Fantastic afternoon tea for 3 with excellent, friendly service. I would highly recommend a visit 🙂
L. R.
We had the afternoon tea for two from a voucher i recieved from christmas. It was great service and the staff were very friendly. The sandwiches and scones were great and had a good selection of cakes and traybakes. Loacted over the canal in a period bullding with all its original features was a nice touch. Only downside is that we had to wait for half hour in the queue outside. Would definitely reccommend this for a bite to eat or just calling in for a drink.
K. B.
We quite often have lunch here the service is always first class the staff are very polite and friendly and the food is good
On our most recent visit our waitress molly was super
Highly recommend a visit !!
C. C.
Just LOVE their bacon/brie/cranberry toasted sandwiches
S. K.

Lovely food in a beautiful building wonderful staff
G. E.
Lovely old building on a bridge over a canal and excellent coffee.
C. W.
Bacon butty fantastic coffee scrumptious, excellent service
D. R. L.
Nice cafe in the heart of Lincoln City center. Breakfast Sandwich was average, but compensated with the charming historic appearance. Staff was really lovely.
B. W.
I love this place, it’s our favourite place for breakfast when we go into town early. The staff are always friendly and polite and perfectly dressed in their smart uniforms and the superb food has never let us down. I love that the place is a bit quirky, nooks and crannies and twisty staircase, steeped in history and built above a river. The old feel with the dark wood is so comfortable.
It’s not the cheapest place to eat but you get what you pay for with first rate staff and decor and no corners cut on cheap ingredients.
s. b.
Not just good coffee a quality cup of tea too
R.
Server called Jackie was so nice and polite. Quick service.
S. A.
Good service, Lovely food, good size portions and reasonable prices
T. T.
Had a filling sandwich whilst walking round Lincoln, it was all fresh, plenty of it and the fries and coleslaw made it a proper meal. Heartily recommend Stokes High Bridge Cafe.
e. l.
Staff in lovely traditional waitress uniforms.
Enjoyed some local fayre.
M. A.
Absolutely fantastic place. Very old building full of historyk and atmosphere, Great coffee and host👍
j. w. m.
Lovely very clean little cafe. Really nice choice of cakes and staff are really polite and helpful.
S. B.
Fantastic surroundings, quaint. Lovely grub and friendly staff. Worth a visit
H. A.
This is a wonderful place to stop off for refreshments. I can recommend everything on the menu. The staff are smart, professional and provide the highest standards of service. The views from the upstairs and the historic environment make for memorable visit that will stay with you for a long time. I would rate Stokes High Bridge as one of the best restaurants for the history buff looking for lovely experience. Bring your mum, your sweetheart or your wife and children, it tops Betties and for me the Ritz. The prices are very reasonable. Top class Lincolnshire hospitality delivered with style, professionalism in beautiful environment. There is a great pasty shop next door if the wife isn't looking!
D. T.
Lovely hot chocolate and delicious cakes. Generous slices too! Quaint historical building with very polite and friendly staff. Glad with popped in this time because on our last visit we saw this place after we had already been elsewhere. Definitely recommend and hope to visit again.
P. J.
Went with my brother who lives there, enjoyed
L. M.
Visit the High Bridge Cafe regularly, always sit on the second floor as I find the view and the staff on there most pleasing.
Ordered roast pork roast lunch which was cooked to perfection, it was accompanied by carrots, green beans, braised red cabbage, stuffing, roast potatoes, mash and a thoroughly delicious gravy...all washed down with 2 mugs of blue mountain coffee.
The quality of food is consistent and comes at a competitive price in comparison to other local, comparable menus.
I have to praise the male waiter on that level, although I do not know his name he is always attentive and polite when engaging with the customers. I am sure he has been employed at your establishment 10 years or more. I was particularly impressed when he helped an elderly lady on with her coat today. Considerations that seem to be forgotten by the majority of hospitality staff today. Very impressed indeed. My favourite lunchtime haunt, highly recommended x
M. H.
It's a nice enough place but I think I would have expected more from the afternoon tea. It was bellow average I would say taste wise and quantity wise
D. W.
Cozy and good quality food and drink although a bit expensive. A pot of tea, a fanta and two pieces of cake was a little over £19
N.
I have walked past this place over a dozen times and never popped in. So today 26/02/20 decided why not. Went to the first floor cafe and ordered the Gold medal blend loose tea and a bacon, brie and cranberry toastie. They were both delicious. Quite expensive, totalled £8.45 I think but its local, family owned and very traditional. Cassidy, the waitress was very polite and professional.
E. C.
Quaint cafe with an impressive choice of coffees and beans. The staff are attentive, the food traditional and the scones are by far the best I've had! A very busy place so I'd recommend the ground floor for just coffee and snacks, it has a quicker turn over and the other floors are mainly for sit down meals. The building is historical and a rare find!
P. W.
A hard one to review. On the one side the food is exceptional and the surroundings are quaint and unique. On the flip side it can be a touch pricey and the unique historic building affords little luxury, with small hard wooden bench seats, cramped booths and steep thin stairs. They have a minimum spend per person too, so even a quick coffee and snacks for two will cost about 20 pounds. The food and building is worth an experience but don't expect luxury facilities to match the prices, don't take groups bigger than 4 (which itself is a elbow to elbow squeeze) and because of the cramped steep steps up to the restaurant and small space once there, don't take very old or disabled people or children without first checking they can manage. Worth trying at least once though.
J. S.
Friendly and efficient service, with great food and drink, all within a lovely old building
T. E.
Great place to have lunch
P. B.
A lovely tearoom in a fabulous old black and white building that sits over the River Witham just before it joins Brayford Pools.
The staff here are fantastic, they are polite, courteous and make you feel really welcome.
My wife described their own roast Americano as the best she had ever had, and I would say the same about the Gold Medal Tea. I was that impressed I bought some to take with me.
And the cakes are to die for...
W.
Very quaint even though it's in the centre of the shopping area... Lovely staff and quality drinks at a reasonable price
R. W.
Lovely cafe!! They do a gorgeous cooked breakfast and the setting is lovely. Nice old wooden beams, lovely café feel. Wouldn't change a thing, apart from making sure the staff know the full menu, i.e. whether you can get marshmallows with a hot chocolate.
C. F.
We visited on 3 June, a family group of 6 adults, a toddler and a dog. Afraid there was no room at the inn for us citing covid restrictions as the reason for not putting 1 additional chair. So disappointing unfortunately
J. P.
Cool old building with plenty of charm and character, coffee is good quality and hot. Cake tasty. Staff pleasant and helpful...its one of the things you need to do in Lincoln!
D. B.
We had flowering tea and Japanese cherry tea. Both were delicious. Problems were that we weren't given tea strainers and they seemed to forget about our scone (cream tea) . Once we prompted them it came quickly and was good.
Update: We have since been back and everything went well. Added an extra star for the better experience.
B. W.
Interesting half timbered building on a bridge over the river Witham, which flows through Lincoln centre. Traditionally dressed waiting staff. Very pleasant olde world manner too. Good, varied menu in pleasant surroundings.
C. T.
Excellent place to visit and Really the only.place to have lunch when spending time shopping on the high street. Also the best place for buying fresh coffee beans. The staff are of a high quality and you could take the queen to lunch there without feeling embarassed the high quality of their good and standard of service are as good as the building is quaint and it's somewhere that it seems a grumpy old buffer with high standards can count upon to maintain them . Oh if only.more places were so reliable.
V. K.
Great scone, heated in oven rather than microwaved. Husband very impressed with the sausages and leek on the lunch menu. We are not easily pleased but this was very good. Service great. Totally recommend. Coffee good too.
H. B.
Excellent food, drink & service today, we had the afternoon 2 course offer for £9.95 steak pie followed by crumble. Great selection of teas & coffees. Lovely cafe will definitely be visiting again soon :-)
R. K.
I wonder if you could help me?
I used to buy my coffee from you when I lived near Lincoln. This was about 30 years ago.
My girlfriend at the time and I used purchased a blend I think was called Poacher Blend.
My girlfriend became my wife and she thinks it was Java but I'm convinced it was called
Poacher.
Thank you and thank you for great coffee whatever it's name was 30 years ago.
P. W.
As a coffee drinker this place always delivers quality service and superb food.
Another visit to top up my full of beans stock for home espresso and had fish and chips whilst there. Even though busy the staff worked well and were polite and professional. Oh and the food was great.
S. C.
I have visited Lincoln many times and have always wanted to visit Stokes so on my last visit to Lincoln, I went twice. First, I went to the restaurant for lunch. The place was super busy and the waitress was trying her best but was totally rushed off her feet. Although it was only just after 12.30, the pies had all sold out so I had the scampi which was average at best. I really wanted to love the place, so returned a week later with a friend for breakfast, and again, the wait staff were run ragged. I couldn't help but feel I was paying for the history of the iconic building and not for top quality service or food.

The food and drinks are always of high quality but I found the staff a little unorganised on this visit. Our waiter kept forgetting our order and didn't check back at all. The cafe is a little cramped as well which makes it difficult to walk through when there are guests and staff moving around.
P. B.
Just popped in for a cup of tea just before closing. Excellent, friendly service in black and white uniform. Great range of teas, coffees and cakes so will definitely go back to try more of what is on offer.
A. B.
Lovely atmosphere very friendly service. We had the set lunch menu, the Roast lamb Morse succulent fresh absolutely delicious.
Highly recommended

Really like this Café in the core of Lincoln.
Take your time while indulging yourself with a great choice of beverages and cakes.
Look to know more about the history of Stokes and how he did managed his coffee business in England.
Don't miss the narrow exits on both sides of the house and have a go for a short walk to see the back of the old mansion.
A must to visit when in Lincoln!

I spent many hours with friends at Stokes some years ago when we were living at Waddington. I worked for the newspaper group across the main road.and had lunch there often. The staff were very helpful in getting our food to us quickly so that we could get back to work on time.
After moving to Malta, we returned to Lincoln and Stokes became our coffee shop again. Not working on this occasion, I had more time for leisurely visits and shopping.
Stokes is perfectly placed as the place to eat and drink when shopping up and down the High Street and after walking up to and down from the car parks. The food was very good and looking out of the window overlooking the bridge was a pleasant way to spend your time whilst eating. Eating and drinking their very good coffee outside is also a pleasure and that is where I took the photos of the Red Arrows. O.K. they were draped across the street but it is the nearest I ever got to seeing them in formation.
The building is beautiful and together with its reputation, Stokes is the place take a break whilst visiting Lincoln.
H. B.
I´ve always loved this place, the cakes are the best, and gluten free. The building itself is gorgeous, just a lovely setting for an afternoon cup of tea.
G. R.
Wonderful historic building setting for this fabulous place to eat. A large range of fresh high quality tea and coffee served by polite and pleasant staff. Tasty and good quality food at reasonable prices.
Highly recommended.
D. R.
Good coffee, busy place, very snug, bit poo acked in.
B. C.
Nice warm homely feel to the place. Staff very friendly and helpful. Only had tea and cake but was very nice and good value. Worth a visit!
L. A.
This little gem was a real treat, within easy walking distance of other tourist attractions and a real contrast to the modern eateries along the waterfront. I particularly liked that there was an area kept for light bites rather than lunch at peak times, which enabled lots of people to come and go for a tea or coffee.
G. C.
We really like carys one of the waitresses upstairs. She remembers faces and what you have ordered previously. The food is always lovely. Wonderful place for breakfast.
E. R.
Been past so many times on my visits to Lincoln but never been in. What a gem I was missing out on! Also discovered they cater for allergies and intolerances too so I will be back!
D. V.
Good food and excellent value.
L. S.
Very nice lunch. Interesting old building. Lovely staff, thank you
H. B.
Always a great place for a breakfast. Can't miss a trip to Stokes whenever I come back to Lincoln.

Lovely attentive staff so friendly.
Better latte then costa . Always busy speaks for itself love the place .
C. S.
Popped in for lunch, visited one in high Street much bigger than first thought, over three floors. Had a well cooked and presented lunch, from a friendly and happy staff. Hope to return again
P. G.
Lovely breakfast - shame I got a dry, half baguette with it when I ordered brown toast!!!!
D. S. &. A.
Always an amazing experience that is more than just the Coffee. Steeped in history, the atmosphere is well worth the climb up the stairs to the upper floors of the old Tudor building.
G. R.
A truly outstanding coffee shop. Perched across the canal with multiple floors. There are a great range of coffee and teas to choose from, alongside some fabulous food. Worth calling in if in Lincoln centre at all.
A. B.
OK cafe, tries to retain some of the 1920-30's charm but not that good. Food is OK and a nice selection of teas and coffees. The building is more impressive than the food or service
A. H.
Took three attempts to correctly serve 2 scones and 2 coffees and the glass of water never arrived, BUT the scones and coffee were lovely hence the three stars !
M. M.
Lovely setting, with plenty of local memorabilia. Good table service but food lacks in quality and value. Coffee was decent but very traditional methods of serving, no Chemex or Aeropress
V. S.
Very friendly, historic place to stop and eat, whatever your needs from a cuppa to a 3 course meal. Have a great choice to suite everyone's needs and a good price. Service is faultless. Love it 😊
H. A.
Lovely service great food and coffee
A. S.

S. H.
Beautiful building over 3 storeys.Wonderful service and staff all in a lovely black and white traditiinal uniform. Wide range of teas and coffee. Buy your loose teas and coffee beans on the way out . Food is amazing. A must visit if in Lincoln .
J. P.
Wow.!! The home of coffee.Beautifully retaining all the original features. Outstanding view over the canal and our waiter was most charming and attentive.Highly recommend.
R. Q.
First class service staff and experience food and coffee 5/5 highly recommended
B. A.
ABSOLUTELY gorgeous & thrilling experience to be able to 'Step Back In Time', even to just visit this wonderful time capsule of a truly genuine Medieval Building - a glorious 'Coffee House Restaurant' - & it's ON A BRIDGE!! To me, every visit takes me back & transports me to childhood!! I just find it thrilling clambering up the 'winky-wonky' staircase☺ - it's just such FUN. Every room & view is totally different with 'spindly-spandly' odd shaped bits of wood it seems EVERYWHERE! The whole place is just jam-packed with Character. Even the floors seem slightly off like being on a ship, & if you're a little tall - watch your head - there are BEAMS everywhere - yo-ho-ho! Fun fun fun😄 SO much more interesting than your run-of-the-mill sort of Restaurant. It really does make you feel you have stepped back into the past! Of course, I know it's just fanciful Medieavilness (if I may 'coin-a-phrase), but THAT is how this place makes me feel - I lover it. 😀 The food? coffee? service? - ALL, equally Superb. Really, fast & polite, & very reasonable too. Do NOT expect to just 'walk in'!? It is very popular, of course, understandably. You may have to queue, or come back. Lincoln is lucky to have such a well preserved UNIQUE GEM. It is equally delightful to view from the outside, & makes beautiful Photographs - probably equally as popular as the Castle, Cathedral, Museum, & Windmill. Sorry! - did I go over the top & get carried away?? Well, come & see for yourself😂 Must be the best Wendy House ever.
S. “. K.
beautiful place and excellent food
P. B.
Always a good breakfast experience and the coffee tastes great.
L. f. a. g. s.
Before we start I love stokes ground coffee and allways pop in to grab a bag when I make it in to Lincoln Town center.
Today me and the wife stopped for some food we where told toake our way to the first floor and you cannotiss the only empty table. Lol
The place all ways smells good (coffee adict) staff are really nice and friendly so we scanned the menu seemed very nice and clear with the standered salds, chips and pie but what we got was far from nice I ordered the chefs special sausage casarole
Wow what was special about it I received a plate with one roast potato (which was cold) scoop of mash and a couple of other bits of veg and an eared dish with what can only be described as three sausages with the cheepest and nastiest gravy gluped on it. There was no veg in it or remotely as a casserole.
I can quite honestly say I will just keep to buying coffee and tea from these guys from now on. M
L. T.
Great cakes and coffee, lovely staff. No good for disabled access as only have small amount of space. But plenty of seating outside.
S. D.
Great looking timber building, we sat outside watching the shoppers go by. Had the "Lincolnshire Tea" which consisted of a plate of Plum Bread and Lincolnshire Poacher cheese and a pot of tea, the plum bread was tasty and a perfect accompaniment to the cheese. The tea was really tasty too. The service was friendly and the waitress was dressed in Victorian attire which added to the character. Sensibly priced.
K. B.
Lovely cup of Earl Grey tea here. Good staff with plenty of jam and scones. We liked this old cafe very much.
L. W.
Food ok, service a bit slow, don't recommend the bar stool tables, stools uncomfy after 10mins
E. W.
Had a wonderful lunch today. The staff were genuinely attentive and polite. Food was delicious!
Thank you so much!
S. T.
One of my 4 coffee places in lincoln, the staff are lovely and it's so atmospheric
S. W.
A little disappointing. For a landmark in the heart of Lincoln we were disappointed. The food was very average, there are tastier places to eat in Lincoln. Coffee and Tea are ok but again, the little tea shops in steep hill do it better.
F. A.
Amazing coffee, cakes & light bites available downstairs, with more substantial fare served upstairs. Staff are friendly & knowledgeable about the menu.
R. W.
Excellent location. Nice food, nothing special. Good service.
C. C.
The café is on the bridge and, as far as I know, is the oldest building on a bridge in the UK. It's very old, quaint and cosy! They serve fantastic food and great coffee. There is a seating area outside now. Prams need to be folded and left downstairs.
D.
Traditional cafe serving teas, coffees, cold drinks, hot and cold food. Nice choice of food for lunch. Waitresses dressed in traditional uniform. Food was well presented and tasted nice.
c. s.
Always on my menu when visiting Lincoln. Superb quiche always on offer and of course excellent coffee.
G. K.
Lovely old fashioned coffee shop with the freshest possible coffee beans as they roast thier own. You can also buy various coffee beans to take away.
p.
Very busy for early in the week. Service was slow but didn't mind. Cappuccino was good and tasty, flat white could have been stronger.
S. B.
What a beautiful cafe and coffee house... cake and food to dye for .. the staff are very friendly and helpful always smiling. Would highly recommend a visit.
R. H.
Exactly what you would expect from a Stokes cafe, excellent service and delicious food and drinks. We also stopped in the shop downstairs and had just as good service and plenty of treats to take home
R. P.
We like it here. Nice food. Traditional building.
Staff are friendly enough.
Nice choice of hot food. Good fish and chips.

My go to place for a cup of hot chocolate after a shopping trip. Piece of cake and tea when I'm having a catch up with friends. And a great place to grab and go when it comes to a caffeine kick for a busy day ahead.

The ideal place to take the weight of your feet after shopping/sight seeing in Lincoln. Great atmosphere and a nice selection of drinks and eats. I recommend you try it!.
D. P.
High bridge - breakfast on a frosty morning looking at the river below - pure magic. Tea is a minor ritual with leaf tea, hot water, strainer and served with a smile. Nothing else comes comes close to Stokes.
G. H.

Nice enough but no meringues sadly and if you sit outside you get people vaping all over you. Most unpleasant this has put me off going here again
S. W.
Delightful, quaint tea room serving a vast range of coffee and tea, alongside delicious meals. The staff wear traditional maid outfits to complete the feeling.
C. P.

J. W.
A quaint old style cafe with very friendly staff and good coffee and food.
t. b.
Fantastic great cafe thx
B. T.
We have been visiting Stokes every time we go to Lincoln for years and we have always been really impressed with service and quality of food ,but todays visit was a bit of a shock to what we are used to, I was served a very nice soup but given no choice of type of bread and it was served with what can only be descibed as the cheapest bun they could find , and my wifes Tuna sandwich was served in white bread with very stale crusts , I no nobody can be right all the time but serving fresh bread is not rocket science
P. D.
A happy place to meet and enjoy a cuppa and a cake or five lol
R. H.
Always a cracking place to sit and people watch.. lovely hot sausage rolls.. very well priced.. shame there isn't more seating outside..
D. G.
Great food, coffee and service in the only timber framed house on a medieval bridge in Britain. Definitely worth a visit.
R. A.
Brilliant place for lunch and especially afternoon tea. The views from the top floor make for an enjoyable time.
S. W.
Found the food to be of average standard. Nothing to write home about. And the staff seemed to want to rush people out. But it was a busy day hence the 3 stars.
H. S.

a. M.
Lovely food, in one of the nicest settings in Lincol
L.
The coffee and food are okay, and it's a nice novelty, but it ultimately comes across as very stuffy, over the top, and dare I say it, yes, a little creepy.
