Reviews of Stokes Lawn Café

Food was average. Service was poor.
We waited almost 1hour from being seated to finally receiving out order, and it was half empty.
Portions were a little small for the price.
Service: 3/10 (VERY SLOW service)
Waiting time for food: circa 50 mins
Price: 6/10
Quantity: 6/10
Cleanliness: 8/10

Amazing Place! They were packed when we visited during the Lincoln Christmas Market. We had to wait 15 mins to be seated, but it was worth the wait. We had the Club sandwich and it was amazing. The best I have ever had. Well worth a visit. Good value too.

Great service. Lovely weather and view of a castle wall. Had the granola which was delicious. Latte was nice. Dogs not allowed in so we ate on the terrace.

We went to the cafe as a party of 3 in order to have an afternoon tea. This, like certain other menu options, did need to be pre-booked.
The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food, which arrived within a few minutes, was served in the traditional way on a 3 tiered stand. There was a excellent selection of sandwiches, savouries, tiny, tempting cakes and warmed scones and the portions were generous. There is a choice of tea or coffee; all of us opted for tea, which is served in Japanese style iron tea pots. These are charming and pour well but it is perhaps worth noting for those with arthritis or children in the party that they are heavy for their size and, although the handles remain cool the rest of the pot is very hot indeed.
The cafe is quite spacious and there are also tables and umbrellas outside. The decor features recycling in a major way, from the old coffee sacks used to cover the chairs to the re-purposed piping that now supports shelves. The more you look the more you see. Probably the most notable feature of all, as long as you look up, is the life sized killer whale made of car bumpers and old coffee machine parts which hangs from the ceiling.
We obviously did not use the menus that day but there was a good variety of food and also a fairly extensive list of teas and coffees.
The toilet area is immaculate and there is a separate mother and baby/disabled toilet.
Access to the cafe is good for the wheelchair bound and less mobile as it is all on one level and close to the (pay & display) car park.

Very good coffee spot, variety of coffee options and tea as well. Scones were warm with real clotted cream and nice jam.

Lovely area of Lincoln by the castle, plenty of parking (pay & display) & set in an interesting little building. Excellent service, everyone is really friendly & helpful, & waiting time is minimal; even when busy (which it normally is!). Fantastic coffee & good choice of food- brunch/cakes etc. Well worth a visit.

Bit of an annoying experience really. Seemed confused about their own system.
We wanted cold drinks but couldn't see a menu for them & was told to order outside but the person outside was only doing hot drinks. We did eventually get served but it took ages despite there being several members of staff & a quiet cafe. Expensive too. Not sure we'll return.

First visit on a Saturday - Lovely cafe with fab food. Pancakes are the best!
Second visit today - my wife had 3 pancakes that were clearly not cooked on the day. Appeared to be re-heated in a microwaves, fry as old biscuits and black/burnt on the bottom sides. Wrong hot chocolate served as well. First thing in the morning so not even busy.
Really quality control issues, needs to be consistent.

A lovely place to have a bite to eat or just a coffee/tea & watch the world go by.Friendly helpful staff.Easy access for wheelchair users & toilet facilities. The coffee is super & there is a wide range of food.A great place to while away a bit of time.5*

Visited for breakfast and lunch, excellent service, clean and safe. Food was delicious and easily catered for gluten free party member.
Only suggestion is that you update your gluten free menu as it is not clear what you can and cannot have on the main menu and having dietary requirements can be awkward and stressful, especially when you cannot look at a menu and make an easy choice. We understand that things are crazy with covid requirements changing and menus having to be limited. We would definitely recommend this place if you are gluten free or have other dietary needs, staff were excellent!

Large group booking for a colleague’s pre-wedding brunch. Great food, great atmosphere. Staff team were brilliant - thank you Calum, Mark, Karen, Matt and Jenny.

Visited today for an afternoon cream tea for 4 , absolutely delicious , staff very attentive and we couldn’t have been looked after any better. Would recommend a visit.

It is a nice Café but for me the music was unnecessary and the choices would have been more appropriate in a night club.
The food and drinks are very good! It is in a lovely place, not near the main road, and a place for children to run around. Also you have a choice of takeaway or stay in.
Hope this helps and hope you all can go there to see for yourselves.

Service was very good but the food had what we though was a hair we told the staff who then came back and said it’s not a hair it’s a cobweb then they closed the kitchen but the meal was comped and fresh was given other then this I would come back

We had a Saturday morning full English breakfast. Food was delicious, great choice of options for veggie and non veggie and very nutritious. Staff was pleasant, friendly and welcoming. Relaxed environment it was busy but you wasn't rushed.
R. S.
We had the afternoon cream tea.
We booked in advance, on arrival we were directed to a small table up against a wall.
The staff were okay.
The food was disappointing. If we'd purchased it as separate items it would have worked out cheaper, my wife has to eat gluten free(not a choice).
The choice from the supplied food was quite limited for her.
Overall it was dissaponting when it should have been a treat.

Imogen found the menu to her liking. This with open airy atmosphere with friendly service made our brunch visit very enjoyable
J.
Great coffee but wish they had served my latte in a cup and not a glass, that's too hot to hold

It was a delight to return to Stokes Lawn cafe this week and we had an amazing time once more. The food was fab, the place was friendly and relaxed. The service was brilliant, the waitresses and waiters were so helpful and they bent over backwards to accommodate us. They made sure that a food request was met, despite not being on the menu, great service and much appreciated. It was great to be back again.

A lovely afternoon of coffee and cake at StokesLawn cafe. Great service and delicious cakes 😋
J. A.
It was lovely but would prefer a latte in a cup rather than a drinking glass
S. K.
Lovely brunch. Lovely staff. Lovely views of the castle wall. Lovely company.

Lovely to be back inside, back to a bit more of a feeling of normality. Lovely cheese scone served with whipped butter and onion chutney, however my usual filter coffee which is normally smooth tasting, was a little on the strong side n slightly bitter, put it down to new staff maybe still learning the ropes. Hopefully will gain that 5th star on next visit.

We came here yesterday and ate outdoors for lunch. Our server was extremely courteous and helpful. My sandwich was good and the chips were excellent. Food and drink presentation (especially the tea pot) were great as well. Will be back!

Great local gem, well worth a visit in Lincoln. Amazing choice of coffee, all blended on site and cakes well worth ignoring the diet!
T. K.
Great breakfast selection. I had the avocado, poached eggs and feta on toast. Came with a delicious salad and roasted vine tomatoes. Really delicious! Very warm and friendly staff. Loved the decor. Coffee wasn't to my taste but everything else was great.

Great place that offers fresh delicious food. Excellent service.

Just had an amazing full English delivered from here, also American pancakes with honeycomb butter. Served in a tray. Arrived piping hot and tasted amazing. I would have added photos only they were devoured before I could reach for my phone.
10/10

Lovely afternoon tea, perfect

It was a very clean & well organised takeaway cafe. Stokes coffee is very tasty and a treat. We had cheese ham toasties which were piping hot and very nice. Well done to Stokes see you very soon
D. C.
Surprisingly good value for food, surroundings are just lovely! Fantastic coffee. Cakes can be a bit hit and miss to the point where my cake-fiend friend decided not to chance it 'in case'. However I can't say as I haven't had any of the cakes but my food was good for the price and I do feel able to say if something is not to my satisfaction (a true sign of professionalism) and that fact alone guarantees my custom.

Absolutely brilliant service, we ordered a cup of tea and a cup of coffee and sadly we were served the wrong drinks.. you may be thinking this is areason to deduct stars but what it did was show the commitment of that staff, we had a lovely lady immediately come over and help us with our problem she tried the tea and coffee and confirmed it was the wrong one and reccomended a different coffee to try. She reduced the price of our bill and was extremely apologetic and understanding.
It was just really a lovely experience and was handled amazingly.

A great coffee shop! Highly recommended Blue Mountain coffee which can be purchased in store from their local roastery. the outside tables are lovely when the weather is not awful!

The best cafe in Lincoln.
I go here regularly with my wife and 18 month old son. The staff are all so nice and super friendly and it's refreshing to find a cafe in Lincoln that is so child and family friendly too. The decor is quirky, the music varied and the vibe welcoming.
The food is absolutely delicious, and you won't find a better cup of coffee in Lincoln.
R. S.
Always pop in here with the girlfriend and baby. They have a really good lunch/brunch/afternoon tea menu with a great selection of cakes (that cater for my wheat allergied partner!) and of course, the coffee is fantastic.

I made a reservation for my grandaughter and myself for afternoon tea. Something we love to do and were staying over in the bailgate. Upon arrival we were asked to wait, which was no problem, however, other customers after me who hadnt booked were taken to tables. We were taken to our table then the sandwich/ cake stand was brought over. I was suprised that we werent asked about sandwich choice or told what the fillings were until they reached th e table. My grandaughter is 8 and didnt want cheese and pickle or some sort of fish paste with cucumber she did have the ham. The scones were lovely, as were the macaroons. The other choice of 3 cakes was slightly obscure. A cherry, syrupy overly wet tray bake cake that neither of us ate, something like a chocolate ball truffle and a completely unappertising green and chocolate creation, which when she tried it was so stodgy it stuck to her teeth. Maybe its because i expect a more traditional selection. This felt like we were served random items that were left,as there were next to none on the counter this was supposed to cost £27!!!! I did receive the government scheme so it was £13.50. Dan who waited on us was truly lovely and gave my grandaughter a brownie to make up for the cake situation. I understand it was a hot, busy day, i was just very dissapointed as id booked 2 days of her favorite things and this was just a bit of a let down. Completely overpriced when paying full amount.

Cracking place for a coffee and bite to eat. Highly recommended.
Perfect place for both gatherings with friends and to go solo for either remote working or for a coffee and newspaper. It’s also only a short walk from the castle 🏰
Looking forward to going back again soon when we are next in the area.

Lovely staff, cracking latte, because we had to wait, they gave us the coffee free, we tipped them a good amount for being so generous 😀😊 been for food also which was great, will be back for sure. GOD bless xxx

Great coffee at reasonable prices and fantastic staff. The staff are really helpful and pleasant, even when faced with Karen's who moan about how people have tattoos.

Nice food. Forgot field mushroom on full breakfast. Raised with staff member but no action taken or apology offered. Therefore loses a couple of stars for customer service.
