Reviews of A Portuguese Love Affair Ltd

TLDR; Super charming cafe with some decent coffee and snacks. Its a tad expensive but you’re paying extra for the atmosphere and attention to detail.
The pork and beef Portuguese pastries were being made right by the entrance! The dough was being prepared whilst another batch was being taken out of the oven. You can’t get any fresher than this!
C. K.
Small but cute shop with nice coffee and pastel de nata.

This was a lovely local find. The Portuguese food was superb! There is a great selection of wines. The restaurant also sells sells beautiful homeware. If you happen to are in the area don’t miss it!

great portugese food. vegan feijoada is delicious

Tiny but fabulous cafe serving some really delicious eats!
Simple, tasty and authentic.
Super busy on a sunday afternoon but service was fast and friendly.
Loved it!

Cute, affordable deli-café. Serves the usual array of Portuguese savoury and sweet pastries with some interesting variants I had not seen hitherto. Examples include Rabanadas (Portuguese pain perdu with cinnamon), Alheira (a type of sausage) stuffed crescents as well as suckling pig turnovers. Other salient info: There is a small loo at the back, they sell wines, tinned fish and other oils - and they take card payments.

Amazing place, very warm welcome by the owners who are always available for a nice chat! Authentic tastes from Portugal 🇵🇹! A must try!!
R. C.
Amazing little cozy place!!!
Great Portuguese wine bu the glass and plenty of food options (if you are not a vegetarian/vegan). The most friendly and polite service in London!!!
The girl was so sweet and so approachable!!!
I can’t wait to come back!
There are also plenty of cheese options, chorizos, drinks and sweets to take away. It reminded me of Portugal.

This place is still open for takeaway food and drinks, they did a great deal in February which gave a free coffee with any main. I got the vegan burger and it was really good, I've not had a better one. I tend to steer clear of processed food but this was really excellent and so was the coffee. The staff were so friendly and cheerful it was a total pleasure to visit and I'll certainly be returning. It's a little out of my way but it will be worth the extra walk - a great find.

Best Portuguese tarts I’ve had outside of Portugal
A. L.
Friendly atmosphere next to a lovely park setting. The pastries and Portuguese savory dishes are all delicious and home made. Great place.

Staff are nice but unfortunately they serve up old bits of food - garden salad with cod was almost at the mushy stage of decomposition and were given the last, dry, old ends of the vegetable filled bread (why do that when you have a whole newer loaf on display? Not worth the prices for dining in.

As a Portuguese living in London for a decade now, this is the best Portuguese I've been to. So many traditional choices, everything I've tasted was genuine and delicious(and trust me, I took my time)! I'm amazed!
R. C.

Great Portuguese wine bu the glass and plenty of food options (if you are not a vegetarian/vegan). The most friendly and polite service in London!!! …

A little piece of home in the center of London. The ladies serving there are like auntie's making you feel at home. Delicious food!
L. T.
Lovely food and lovely people! Get there early for pasteis de nata!
A. S.
Great savoury treats just like you'd find in a traditional Portuguese café. Everything is freshly prepared and the rustic look is on point.

Friendly atmosphere next to a lovely park setting. The pastries and Portuguese savory dishes are all delicious and home made. Great place.

Fabulous owners and delicious coffee and treats -- cannot recommend more. Home of the best latte AND pastel de nata I've ever had (not an exaggeration). Cod and vegetable fritters are super tasty and an awesome treat. Love this place!
J. A.
My go to place to soothe my Portuguese itch. Lovely food and wine, great staff. The owners are really nice and friendly, and always welcome everyone with a smile. Their food warms you up, and is very comforting during winter. During the summer the party vibes start, and the barbecue outside makes all the difference! Great fish is served. I recommend everyone go there and try the Pastel de Nata.

Beautiful little cafe. We had a few dishes and they where divine. The standout though is the super service. So polite with a great sense of humour. Made us smile. The pictures are from the cute outdoor seating area overlooking a nice open space / park

If you want to find a part of genuine Portugal in London, then this is the place to go to. It's warm atmosphere & embrace from the staff makes you feel instantly relaxed. It has an incredible selection of wines with home cooked Portuguese dishes that leave you feeling satisfied. A huge recommendation, whether it is for a quick coffee and cake or a lovely dinner.
J. C.
Nice food. Staff really nice. Not a huge fan of the coffee. But good place to visit after the flower market

A little piece of home in the center of London. The ladies serving there are like auntie's making you feel at home. Delicious food!

A lovely place with delicious coffee and tasty Portuguese sweets. I was in a hurry so didn't see it all but it seemed cosy and the service was super friendly. I wish I could stay longer to enjoy the vibe.
B. R. W.
Delightful bar/cafe to enjoy the last days of lockdown. Staff are lovely and kudos for extending into Ion park.
S. V.
Excellent place if you want to try some Portuguese food. The pastéis de nata are the best in London! Very friendly staff too.
M. C.
Lovely, hidden gem of Hackney. Staff is incredibly nice and happy to suggest what to eat. Cozy, comfortable place for a talk and drink a glass of wine with some small nibbles. Music and staff makes this place magic!
B. W.
The incredibely friendly staff here is ready to help and explain the foods on offer! The food was good, there was a decent selection of options and the prices are fair. It's a very cute place to sit down and have a small bite or get a coffee. Make sure to swing by before or after visiting Columbia road
L. B.
Loved the cod croquettes and the pastel de nata. Reasonable prices and cosy environment, very tiny, so hard to find a seat if you are in a big group. Everything is homemade and the fish is cheap. Good selection of wines, although a bit expensive.
T. M.
A beautiful shop with an carefully curated selection of Portuguese wine and food and ceramics and homewares. The shop is beautiful and the owners are lovely people. Excellent place to find a gift. Highly recommend.
B. M.
Great place for wine, coffee and grub. Friendly, well organised and great service.
N. L.
Went for a drink post lunch , nice cosy and small place for a good catch up with a couple of friends. Espresso was good (thought a bit long), house wine was good as well, for £6.
B. W.
Great food, great atmosphere, great staff. Little cramped inside, but gorgeous outside area in Ion park
A. V.
Great place to meet friends for drinks and food. Love the vibe! One of the nicest little places in London. They do wine tastings and other fun events. They know a good wine. Great for first date 😊
J. G.
Lovely cozy cafe. Only wish they had more breakfast-y items on the menu, but what they do make is tasty.
E. B.
I had such a wonderful night last night- Celebrating International Women's day at a Portugese Love Affair. The hosting was fantastic, Dina and Olga really friendly and clearly much loved part of the community. The atmosphere was buzzing with people packed in and waiting in and outside the door. the evening started with pink bubbles and oysters- A Portugese classic delicacy followed by pastrys, stews and more. what a delight, will definately be going again!
A. M.
Amazing. Lovely people own the shop. So sweet. The food is very good and great wine!
A. D.
The best custard tarts in London (and really friendly service!)
T. L.
Amazing place! Don’t read any reviews, just go and try! The waiters are incredibly nice and the food is insane. Only problem that I found are the height of the chairs, which doesn’t actually bother much.
N. S.
What can I say, amazing Portuguese food & incredible service. I wished I lived closer and could call this my local.
J. P.
I feel a lot of love for my local Portuguese beautiful everything! 👍😋🎉💦👅💙
D.
Amazing pastéis de nata. The owners are lovely, very kind and welcoming and all the things they sell are beautiful. Definitely recommend.
R. D.
Lovely little neighbourhood place. Really friendly. Good wine to buy as on or off sales. They do convivial (it is quite snug!) wine-tasting nights now and again too.
C. F.
The owners are always friendly and smiling. This is definitely my Sunday morning destination. The small and cosy space offers the best expresso in London. It offers a multitude of Portuguese snacks and is a nice change from all those chaby-chic coffee places around hackney which are starting to be all too boring. Well done guys. E força para voces!
L. H.
Absolutely love this place, it's in my top 3 cafes in all of London. Great service, lovely if busy atmosphere, and consistently delicious food.
P. C.
Great food, awesome staff, and cold Sagres ;)
K. M.
Had a superb meal & delicious wine on a Friday night when the atmosphere was buzzing. Purchased charcuterie & wine to have at home - reasonable prices, friendly service & authentic Portuguese food. Can't wait to go back!
W. S.
The avacado with chillies sounds delicious, unfortunately they didn't have any the day I went there! So I got a great cup of coffee instead with a cigarette was the healthy option.
R. C.
Very nice food, and great staff. Authentic Portuguese
M. W.
Excellent service, really friendly people.
Simple but delicious food, the quality of ingredients is incredible.
Would recommend for brunch /lunch.
E. M.
Everything was great. The wine, the vegan sandwich and the ham&cheese one (incredible Portuguese ham), the pastel (!!), the service! Nice, quite, cute and cozy..
R. R.
Friendly people with excellent selection of wine and Portuguese delicatessen. The best pastel de nata in London!
J. R.
Lovely cozy place with bistro feeling. The staff is fantastic! Super friendly, they treat you as if you were a guest in their home. This is a place you feel blessed to have found! And please, once there, try the cocktail monjito with almond licuor!
A. C. C.
Love this little shop with Portuguese stuff. They even stock some things that are hard to find in Portugal like "pasta medicinal couto", an old and traditional toothpaste. The traditional ceramics is worth a try and the reed diffusors smell wonderfully.
M. S.
Typical portuguese deli, great food, cozy, unforgettable wine.
J. C.
Such a lovely small place where people who run the place genuinely love the food and drinks they sell, and that comes through in their friendly service and high quality of Portuguese small eats and wine.
