Reviews of Algerian Coffee Stores

I would give 6 out of 5 if it was possible :)
There are variety of coffee blends from all over the world. It is hard to choose but the staff is really helpful and knowledgeable. They guided me really well. I went for “Formula Rossa”, a blend of African and Brazilian coffees and “Kopi Luwak”,digested coffee cherries by the Asian civets. I paid £27 for 100gr Kopi Luwak which is fair given it is an expensive coffee. They asked how I brew my coffee and grinded it nicely for my moka pot. I brewed it as soon as I arrived home. The coffee was fresh and didn’t dissapoint at all.

This place hasn't changed in years and I love the smell of it. The smell of spiced coffee and all the other coffee smells together and literally makes my mouth water. They sell lovely tea as well I thoroughly recommend the ceylon Inverness tea. They also sell all types of confectionery and coffee making machines and they have a wealth of knowledge as well I also like the fact that they all were wearing masks when I went in there. I sometimes do an online order and that is always delivered promptly with no problems
A. P.
I rarely give out 5* but this place is iconic. Walked past by chance and recognised it from a tiktok video, hence the visit.
The coffee prices are famous for almost never going up, £1.50 for an impressive cappucino which was the perfect temperature, and smooth tasting.
An unbelievable choice of moka pots and french press’ to buy, and the choice of roasted coffee beans is simply overwhelming, albeit not cheap.
Visit this place people!

I love this little gem of a shop. The smell emitting from the front door is intoxicating. The variety of teas and coffees available is mind boggling as is the number of different grinds available too. The shop is small so can filled crowded even with just four customers in it but pleased don't let this put you off
D.
Real gem of a place with a great selection of coffee at even greater prices. Lovely and quaint inside and the look and feel of it hasn’t changed in ages. A wee quibble that echoes what one or two other reviews have said - a few times they haven’t got the grind right and I’ve had to go back, but this usually only happens with what looks like a new member of staff.
N. H.
Purchased some coffee here for our espresso machine and it is beyond amazing! So smooth and creamy. The staff were very attentive and informative when helping us choose our right blend.
T. T.
A traditional coffee store with a vast variety of coffee beans. The service is fast and friendly service.
T. W.
Eclectic shop, bursting with coffee, and all its equipments and accompaniments (think honey, sweets, biscuits, chocolates, etc.). It is more than a century old and I think it's definitely worth a visit. Unique!
Y. G.
Traditional coffee house for coffee lovers to top up on a variety of blends. Cheap takeaway coffee and just an unexpected find. Nice place to sip outside and people watch :)))
j. c.
An excellent latte for £1.50 and they also have an amazing selection of coffee, I was asked what kinda grind I wanted on my coffee and how intense I wanted it when I bought some coffee from their very long menu- these people know their coffee!
L. E.
This is an amazing shop and I love to go in. I always buy a wonderful packet of high roast coffee of the month. It's always brilliant. The staff are always charming and they will grind your coffee as you like. They have fantastic quality coffees and teas from everywhere together with lovely sweety things and brewing pots. They also sell you a coffee to go which at just £1 is practically a steal. I highly recommend this place, best coffee shop I know of.
M. A.
If you consider yourself a coffee master and taster then this small store is full of aroma and variety. You will he amazed of the superior beans and blends. Get grinded if you like. They do have a lot of coffee making stuff as well a collection of tead and other goods. It is in Soho.

Algerian Coffee Stores, which a brilliant place to get all things coffee. Fresh coffee beans and various coffee making equipment such as expresso making pots. I've had a latte here and was simply blown away by the taste of the coffee.
The latte I had was seriously smooth coffee, with a steady taste and feel. There are no sharp or overly bitter taste to this coffee, with a consistent taste between the first sip and the after-taste. Just smooth and consistent from start to finish. The price of the latte here is cheaper than many of the cafes on the same street and far better experience. I've only now realised the standard high street cafes are bland compared to this coffee place.
The shop also sells chocolates (lots and lots of it), as well as some speciality baked goods. Can't vouch for either though.
G. E.
Incredible coffee store with huge range of coffee beans, teas and fancy biscuits from around the world. Really helpful and knowledgeable staff and the most wonderful smells!
This store has been open at this exact address for 132 years. It is the second oldest store in Soho (Maison Bertaux the cake shop is the oldest by 2 years). Still busy today it’s a rare treat for coffee lovers.
Dozens of coffees available as beans or they will grind them for you. They will even mix you a personal blend.
T. M.
Fantastic little coffee store that also serves takeaway coffee. The member of staff was very knowledgeable on coffee and able to help us choose some to take home as there are a huge number to choose from. The takeaway coffee is delicious and so cheap.
P. P.
Great experience with this shop! Stuff very friendly. A LOT coffee beans to try at home. Nice and useful guide (menu?) with coffee beans and prices. The first shop in UK where I could get kopi luwak, so I'm more than happy! I will definitely visit it online to grab more beans.
R. L.
Unbeatable quality and price, plenty of options from all over the world. I normally go for the Brazilian Bourbon and water processed decaff coffee from Colombia, both are high roasted and the flavour is amazing at home, I also use a moka pot. Highly recommended.
J. H.
Marvellous service, very affordable-priced coffee, 100s of varieties freshly ground to your preferences, and sold in paper eco-friendly packaging. I don’t buy coffee from anywhere else.
Please never change!
S. X.
GOOD selection/ variety of teas and coffees and related accessories. Central location. Good home delivery options. Solid 4.

Best ever place in this city for fresh coffee. If you know your coffee then you need to be buying your coffee here
T.
Went here yesterday when me and my gf just saw it while we were passing by. I needed some more coffee so we went in to see what they had. The staff here were really quite nice and very helpful. We spent well over 30 minutes asking about the different beans they had etc etc and they were more than happy to entertain and answer all the queries we had. The whole place seemed very cosy and calming as well. A really great place with some amazing coffee, both in terms of selection and quality. And with the staff being as great as they are this was a great experience for me.
S. R.
If your in the soho neighborhood this is the coffee shop to go to!!! They definitely know how to make macchiato or cappuccino not to mentioned this is the least expensive coffee we’ve had in London, 1 pound of a macchiato and 1.20 pound of a cappuccino. They also have an extensive selection of coffee beans to take home and they also have a big selection of coffee machines and accessories. There is a reason why they have been around for so long and definitely won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. We will definitely be going back for a coffee before heading out of town. Worth the detour if your not the neighborhood

Finally a shop where I can get coffees from broader part of Asia, they literally have coffee beans from all over the world. I like my coffee really strong and pack flavours, it is so hard to find such beans in London/Brighton. Picked up some Blue Sumatra (love it), Monsoon Malabar, Old Brown Java and obviously some Mandheling. Hope they will get more beans from more parts of Asia, I miss coffees from Toraja and Wamena (hint for the store management:) )
It was a bit hard to communicate with the staff when you had mask on and someone was grinding the beans at the same time; this is something they might want to rethink with the current situation, maybe move the grinder to the back of the shop of they can.
A.
A coffee lovers dream. Walk in, choose a blend from the menu and watch the beans grounds and blended with spices and walk away with the best cafetière you will ever have in your life.
C. W.
Best hidden gem in Soho. This little cafe has an amazing selection of coffee beans and teas, the smell of coffee as you go in blows your mind. The servers are very old school, friendly, chatty, recognize locals and regulars.
Also, they have the cheapest take away coffee in the area.
There's often a queue, but that's because their coffer is actually good and people love it. It's worth waiting and their service is always speedy.
T. Y.
Lovely and nice smelly place! The amazing fresh roasted smell of coffee bring me to this place always that I'm around to enjoy a nice andes expresso coffee for £1
T. E. M.
Algerian Coffee Stores have been supplying our coffee , Brazilian Santos High Roast, for 20 years now. Between the two of us we have used over 150kg of beans. Looking forward to my next pick up in Soho.
C. W.
Fantastic deals on beans and best espresso in Soho - been going here for years and well worth seeking out.
L.
One of my most favourite places in Soho. No visit to the West End would be complete without a stop-off to replenish your supplies of coffee and quality treats at the Algerian Coffee Stores in Old Compton Street.
J. M.
Recently ordered Indian Cherry and Limited Edition Spring Colombian Blend coffee. The flavour is amazing because the coffee is fresh. The ability to choose your roast and grind is something you don't usually see for a store that does delivery. I'll never buy coffee from supermarkets again. Can't wait to try new coffee.
B. L.
Me and my partner bike all the way from SE to get our coffee beans from here, along with a lovely espresso. The young gentleman who serves us most times is so pleasant and so knowledgeable about all of the different roasts / beans. We trust his recommendations and are never left disappointed! Only downside, is that the shop is not closer to our house haha!
Thanks for your amazing customer service
d. r.
I agree with the previous review. I bought a bag of Kenya AA coffee yesterday. I've just opened the bag and there is literally no smell of the coffee beans (wholebeans). I've made a coffee in my stovetop using these beans and there is hardly any flavour of the coffee or smell - Kenya AA is usually a bright and flavoursome coffee, but this isnt. And there is also a slight taste of the plastic bag in the coffee. I'm disappointed as the staff were nice and friendly, the store is very quaint but I'm unsure of the date of these beans - how long have they been sat there in the open for?
C. D.
Amazing selection of coffees. Great prices. A cozy find in the centre of Soho. (No seating). Can buy coffees and accessories.
T. K.
Very good selection. I'm not sure the coffee is as fresh as they say. I bought 3 coffees and one definitely tasted old and flat. The other two were somewhat fresher, but was not a fan of the flavour. Still 4 stars cause it was a nice place
M. d. A. B.
Love this place. They have a extensive variety of tea and coffee at a reasonable price. The store is charming itself from their shopwindow to the interior of the store. Staff is very friendly and helpful always. Shopping there is something I look forward each month as they offer special prices to different coffee beans and you can leave tasting a delicious cup of coffee for £1!
S. B.
Great coffee. Lots to choose from. Ground to meet your coffee making needs.
M. G.
Brilliant and knowledgeable staff were very helpful in suggesting coffee. Great value coffee compared to the chains/Tesco etc and an excellent espresso to sip while choosing my coffee.
K. D.
Loved this little gem. Their in house blend was delicious. With a cup of espresso for £1 and capuccino for £.20 on a freezing cold January day what's not to like.
L. G.
Great variety of coffee beans. Had the only espresso I could drink without sugar from a coffee shop in London. House blend is great. Will be back to get and try out different beans periodically :D
A. T.
One of the few places in london that sell a fantastic range of fresh coffee beans. Highly recommended if you like coffee.
G.
Fantastic customer service. I made an order originally before Christmas 2020. Didn't arrive, was lost by Royal Mail, happens. Algerian Coffee Stores immediately without hesitation re-sent the coffee. Fantastic, honest people. Buy with total confidence and what brilliant coffee.
A. Z.
very amazing coffee shop it has the cheapest espresso ever in London with only one pound however, the minimum charge is five pounds
the staff are helpful, the smell of the coffee is magnificent
I advise to try their raw coffee beans it is amazing
J. D.
A wonderful place which is an absolute must if you are in central London.
Outstanding range of coffees and teas, single origin or otherwise, of all rarities and price ranges, from every corner of the globe. Whatever choice you make you cannot go wrong.
Great knowledgable staff, and I feel like this distinctive shop is almost exactly as it was when it first opened with many of its original fittings and hardware.
Always a great house roast in their machine too, so if you're overwhelmed by choice you can try a takeaway coffee and start from there!
R. C.
A brilliant little shop. Enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff. Huge selection of coffee and paraphernalia. Also, cheap and excellent americano.
D. S.
An excellent range of coffee beans, they will grind to your requirements. My favourite is their Veluto Nero. Look out for the monthly specials - a good way to try new types. I did online order then collect from shop, very efficient. I also bought an excellent stovetop coffee maker from them - 8 years ago. and still going strong. I've been visiting the shop for over 25 years now and it doesn't disappoint.
S. D.
Fabulous coffee range, very helpful staff, coffees, teas, chocolate and hot bevarage peripherals. Open late most of the week. THE place to satisfy you coffee fix, and the do online sales as well.
A. K.
Amazing coffee store, the staff are very helpful and are experts in coffee and tea. The coffee beans are top quality and I personally love Vanilla Colombian, I tend the grind my own coffee but they can do this for you in the store.
You will also be able to find many coffee items here so no need for Amazon or Argos, just pay them a visit if you are in London.
One of the best coffee stores out there!
T. R.
The best coffee seller in London, hands down - I really like the in-store experience as it exposes you to the wonderful aromas of the coffee, but the online service is very reliable too. Can't recommend them enough.
K. A.
This quaint shop in the middle of Soho is the best place to buy coffee and tea in London. I have been buying my coffee and tea here for the last 20 years. The coffee and tea is kept in boxes lined up along the wall. They are packed in papers bags by the people serving in front of you. The service is quite quick, especially given the volume of footfall in the store. It is London a institution.
F. F.
A very cute place. I stopped by because it just had a great vibe and wanted to get a quick coffee. Unfortunately it was anything but quick. I had an older bank note that wasn’t able to be accepted and was told I had to exchange it at the bank first. I offered to pay in credit card but was told the minimum began at 5 pounds. This is all fine and understandable, but wanting to do the right thing and not leave without the coffee I ordered and had already been prepared, I ended up choosing additional items I didn’t want to meet the minimum. I picked up a few things (none of which had price tags on them) which only added up to 4.50 and was told it wasn’t enough still, and even after offering to just pay an extra .50 pence so that I could meet the £5 minimum to use my credit card, it was refused, which became incredibly frustrating given the circumstances. By the time I got enough stuff to meet the minimum and paid, my coffee had already gone cold. This is a simple case of failure to do something so basic and small to accommodate a customer trying to patron a local shop rather than go to a chain store where this wouldn’t be an issue whatsoever. It’s rather unfortunate. The coffee was good but not worth this kind of hassle in a pinch and the fact that it was already cold by the time I could drink it was just salt in the wounds.
k.
I love the takeaway latte with an extra shot for £1.20. I never have to wait too long to be served. When I was like visiting the shop because the smell is so nice. I used to buy the coffee of the month because it's pretty good value but I haven't bought that for a while. I always stop off here when I'm in town. It's so cheap to get coffee here. The coffee of the month is usually high roast and pretty good.
G. L. B.
An authentic store and a paradise for coffee lover. You will be transported by the smell of coffee and spice as soon as you cross the door of the shop. Additionally, they serves really good and cheap coffee and cappuccino to take away.
P. S.
Large range of coffee, really nice staff and good prices.
They also have tea, sweets, a range of kitchen tools for making coffee or tea and probably other items that I’m forgetting.
Being located in Soho it can be easily reached by walking from Piccadilly Circus which is close by.
Haven’t tried their espresso yet, but I’ve heard it is good.
There is a weekly promotion with 2 types of coffee usually, so you can bulk buy at a better price if you want.
G. P.
This is one of the very best shops in London for serious coffee aficionados and tea connoisseurs !!!
A. E.
It's a small shop, but you can find a broad range of exotic products from coffee and tea to chocolate and honey. The prices are fair, and the products are quite good. It's one of the few places in London where you can get a decent espresso for £1.0 and cappuccino for £1.2.
g.
This is a lovely shop, which sells amazing coffee and tea. The staff are really helpful and welcoming. Delighted to discover that their website online service has re-opened, which has enabled me to get their wonderful coffee again by postal delivery. Highly recommended.
l. b.
Excellent little find. Think along the lines of an old fashioned sweet shop with the walls lined with jars of sweets and you're not far off. Except that the jars are filled with various coffee beans and teas instead.
The place smells amazing and they will grind the beans to suit how you will be using them.
L. W.
Love this place. The most unpretentious coffee store. So many coffee’s to try and very helpful staff to guide you through.
They even deliver.
But nothing will replace the smell when you walk in..
G. M.
To experience proper tasting coffee you have to use freshly roasted beans. These are the people to come to. So many lovely coffees to choose from. So far I'm loving their blend that they serve in the shop and Jamaican Blue Mountain for an extra treat when I'm feeling rich. Loads more that I haven't tried yet. Good fun.
K. W.
Considerate staff, very helpful and understanding, I had genetic disorder became allergic to my favourite type of ingredient, Caffeine. I still like a cup of strong black turkish coffee.
Unfortunately that's putting my life in my own hands. I would feel the affects immediately. Due to the serious lack of oxygen I could absorb from the atmosphere. They said they could grind the strong flavour decaffeinated coffee beans to the same consistency as the Turkish coffee. I could still enjoy my cuppa. Risk free.
O. G.
Nowhere near as fancy or glitzy as more recent coffee stores, but instead you get quality, tradition and a time-tested selection of coffee. Worth visiting for the smell alone. As well as coffee they sell teas, equipment and some very interesting sweet treats.
V. R.
Want a coffee? Need coffee beans? Need a coffee machine? Just need advise on coffee (or lose tea) the Algerian coffee store on Old Compton street is the best place to be. Don't be surprised if there is a she as this place is always so busy but get in line and wait as it's worth it. Have been coming here for years and always leave satisfied. Their staff serve you quickly and are very helpful and knowledgeable if you have any questions. If you're not sure what beans to buy you can always get 500g of their monthly special which have always been a good choice. I can't rate them highly enough.
D.
Legendary coffee merchants + good teas. Closed sundays. Coffee of the month is always worth it. Good value coffee to take away, or drink standing in small shop. Excellent choice chocolates, marzipan and eats. One of the two best coffee merchants in London ( other - Higgins in Duke Street Mayfair W1 ). Pop into nearby The Vintage House off licence at 42 Old Compton Street for superb choice of whisky and cigars. And visit nearby Maison Bertaux in Greek Street, best patisserie in UK.
K. C.
Who doesn't enjoy entering a 19th century shop front to find that the interior matches the exterior with drawer and row upon row of beans, teas and tisanes?
The seemingly numberless members of staff are always polite and swift as they help you make your choices and then grind the coffee to your requirements, battering at the side of the ancient grinding machine to make sure every last grain drops into your bag.
Whilst it may be intimidating to find it stuffed to the rafters with customers, you will be served within a matter of minutes, and people are generally great about remembering who's next as they politely wave you forward.
If you want a cup of coffee they will serve you that freshly ground and at a 25% cost of any other venue nearby, so long as you remember that there's no room to drink inside.
If you fancy online ordering, then that's also available but it means you will miss the experience of this unique shopping environment

Best place to buy coffee beans in London
B. B.
Simply amazing coffee. Took a latte with oat milk and it’s simply well made. It’s quite crowded inside and maybe a bit cramped, but the seat at the window that I had was just amazing. First coffee stop this time in London and already hard to beat!
S. C.
Over a century old coffee and tea specialist shop. When you enter, you feel a part of history. So many different types of coffee and tea that one is spolit for choice. Service is OK. I tried one of their house blends, was not out of the world but was decent enough for me to order some takeaway coffee powder. They have an online store. Credit cards accepted.
T. K.
So I come here before my shift as a door man, and really I have to say their cappuccino is the best I've ever had. It is consistent in it's quality. And having the world's selection of coffee beans and grinders and makers to choose from they obviously have the means to make a good brew to keep you going for the night facing adversity. Anyways I digress. I haven't as yet had the chance to buy coffee beans from here but will do in the foreseeable future as I really do wanna expand my knowledge of coffee culture and tasting and buying from this independent institution I would happily do it. It's probably ethically suitable as well.
Safe.
S. F.
Wonderful collection of coffees from around the world, impossible not to find one to your taste. They do mail order as well very useful and speedy service
E. d. S.
Delicious and excellently priced coffee and lovely service
M. W.
There’s absolutely nothing to dislike about this endearing shop, good provisions topped up with excellent service, long may it live!
C. D.
Have shopped here for coffee for more than 30 years. It is wonderful with knowledgeable staff. Do not underestimate their teas either. Plus if you want to buy an espresso or other coffee on the hoof it is terrific value. A gem in Old Compton Street,
Z. P.
At first glance, this place looks very much like an old school sweetie shop with rows upon rows of glass jars and bright coloured packaging – except it sells coffee beans rather than confectionary. It's a place for the serious coffee connoisseur, the whole place was packed out on a Friday lunchtime with people buying their beans. You can also grab an espresso here for the almost unheard of price of £1... and a very good espresso it is too. It's served no nonsense style, you either drink it there and then, or take it away with you.
D. P.
This is may favorite coffee shop in London. The smell as you walk in is amazing with a wall of different coffees and teas. They have coffee and tea from all over the world and will grind them to you choice.
I. W.
This place is supreme in choice and range of wellestablished and a few newer coffee sources. There is quite a high staaf turnover of new staff joining for shorter stints to learn the trade. Not surprisingly online sales have become important. They also have outstanding teas and spices at reasonable cost.
F. J.
I love this place, wonderful atmosphere. Little bit of old England. For me personally it has the coffee and assorted condiments I require. The way things are going in Soho, Algerian coffee stores will be one of the last authentic places left.
K. B.
Simply the best place to buy your coffee or tea in central London. I've been a regular here for about 15 years.
They have a massive variety of beans which they can grind to your requirements if you need. They have a similarly large variety of teas too.
To go with all of this they sell various confectionaries as well as accessories to make your tea or coffee.
And if that isn't enough their staff are both knowledgable and friendly... what more can you ask for.
A. S.
Only very recently got round to visiting this Soho institution, and it's pretty much as charming as I imagined. It smells wonderful, and as well as selling coffee, they have an amazing selection of tea, fancy chocolates (they stock Rococo!) and French sweets in attractive tins. Espressos are a mere £1, but you will have to drink it standing up in their store. Staff are very Soho - no-nonsense but lovely.
R. C.
“The best coffee shop in London”
Ok so I haven't been to all the coffee shops in London, but if you want to go and get unpretentious serious coffee then this is the place. Not really a lot more to say, others have brought all sorts of new interesting approaches to coffee but you have to visit to sample the depth of knowledge and just short..
S. S.
Great coffee, been getting coffee from here for years in person and bulk online and always well satisfied. Very professional and pleasant staff....
Huge thanx to Francesca for sorting out our order when the store was closed due to virus control.
D. G.
5 stars !!
The lady behind the counter made me feel so at ease, it being my first time there. I told her what I had in mind and she suggested what ever was best. Absolutely loved my experience in the shop. The coffee purchased did not disappoint either. Great customer service. Keep it up.
E. B.
Like many others, I am also very pleased with the coffees and service at the Algerian Coffee Stores. I would give it 5 stars but the labelling is often poor, illegible, or does not read the same as on the invoice. Importantly, the roast date is not given so we do not how freshly roasted our beans are and so we do not know how long we can store them. Another coffee merchant I buy from has the following information on the packets: Origin; Farm (if any); Variety; Process; Altitude; Roast Date. I hope the Algerian Coffee Stores management will consider improving their labelling to make us better informed.
C. C.
If you re lookig for the best coffee in London, this is the place. You will find coffee from all over the world with amazig flavors, plus other side products such as tea, special treats, coffee or tea ware, etc. The staff is very friendly and they help you choose your favorite, plus they advice you about the grinding size depending on the way you prepare your coffee and so on.
R. M.
I love this place. They have a huge selection of coffees and teas. This is my main port of call when I need to replenish my mate (the Argentine drink) supplies in both tea bag format and raw dried leaves packages. Very knowledgeable and attentive staff and you can enjoy some interesting aromas as soon as you walk into the shop.
D. F.
I've only got into coffee in the last year or two but wow. This tiny place in Soho has a coffee for £1! And the range of beans which you can take away whole or grounded is epic! Their is so much choice and when you walk inside you can almost sense the history of the place. I looked it up after I went again last week (I went and bought a batch of grounded Bolivian beans which I love to take home to my french press) and found that it's been around since 1887! Amazing! With a glut of shops closing in Soho this must stay for another 100 years I hope!
P. M.
Absolutely love this place, my only problem is that as I don't live in London I always need to find an excuse to come in to visit and pick up my coffee fix. They do deliver but I love visiting the shop in person. It is packed to the brim with coffee (and tea) along with equipment plus advice for getting the best cup you can get. The range of coffees (and tea) is truly excellent and the staff are always on hand with advice and help, without being in your face. A word of warning, though, you may end up buying more than you bargained for. ;) The lovely coffee smell that wafts over you as you enter the shop is a killer, subliminally designed to cloak you with a coffee fug and lull you into buying coffee. It works. ;) They do a coffee of the month at a great price too, so you get to try something you may not normally go for. All in all, a little piece of coffee nirvana in gritty London but blink and you'd miss it, so add it to your smartphone for future reference. I hope this place stays true to its roots, and continues to fight the good fight against the horrors that are Starbucks, Nero, Costa, etc etc. Vive la différence!
D. M.
The past 10 years my coffee comes from this place. I love buyibg different varieties and Xmas time is always lovely to come for a special roast and gifts for friends.
J. K.
They make the best lattes in London! I always look for an excuse to pop in there. Good energy and a good smell!
J. R. W.
wow what can I say this is one of London's best kept secrets if your a coffee fan than this is a must for you and even if your not take five mins to step back into a bygone era of polished wood counters intriguing items on shelves from all over the world, teas in glass jars and coffees form all over the world. the staff are amazing and the prices are actually cheaper than some supermarkets but the quality is far superior, just don't buy all of the Kenyan Pea Berry leave a little for me :)
M. F.
This place is charming on every level. It's cluttered and packed with an incredible array of different coffee beans and chocolates and old school in the way they attend to customers - giving them their full attention. It's included on the route of many London tours so pick your visiting times carefully - it's only tiny and hard to get in the door when there are a few people in there.
K. G.
An iconic Soho establishment, the Algerian Coffee Store is well known for being the best place to pick up coffee beans for your coffee machines at home. However, I didn't realise until I popped inside that you can also buy espressos to go for a pound and a cappucino for a mere 1.50 or so. Bargain! The staff are lovely too and happy to go into depth about the mysterious science of making the perfect coffee. Why would you ever go to Starbucks when this wonderful place exists?!
S. D.
Simply the best. Have been coming here for 15 or so years to buy my coffee beans. Great family run business.
K. W.
Rather surprised I've not reviewed this beautiful little shop before. As you walk through the door, you get a facefull of coffee fumes, which is lovely on a cold morning. The staff are very useful, helpful and if you don't really know what you're looking for, can give you suggestions.
Have a latte when you're there too, its cheaper than starbucks and twice as nice.
K. C.
This place is great, they sell a huge variety of coffees from around the world, my personal favorite being "Ethiopian Yirgacheffe". Along with coffees and teas, they also sell a variety of unusual confectionery e.g. figs, mints, honey and Turkish delight. They also sell every conceivable device for grinding beans and brewing tea & coffee. I bought some decorative ibrik coffee makers here.
R. A.
This gem of a find in an otherwise overwhelming Leicester square is the perfect respite. It has a rustic feel to it and reminds me of a candy store of early England, though instead of sweets in large jars it's coffee beans! The variety is breathtaking, I did not know where to start but the gentleman serving me was very helpful (Rudi - hope I spelt that right) and seemed to know what I was after. There is a certain charm to the store which emanates from a lovely authenticity; it isn't the prettiest place by some standards but that's what gives it a sense of nostalgia and welcome. You wont be disappointed (best to go later on in the evening an hour or two before it closes).
P. C.
Top quality coffee. Highly recommended.
n. p.
This is definitely one of the hidden gems of London that people will tell you about, more likely so if they are out-of-control caffeine monsters. If you want to buy beans to take home then there's a huge selection from which to choose, if you need a quick no nonsense shot of espresso though, go no further. More good news? Espresso shots (double) are £1.
M. C.
Great service, extremely knowledgeable staff & fantastic range of coffee and tea to serve any pallet.
The Algerian Coffee Store is the only place that I now buy coffee from. Would highly recommend.
T.
This is a great place for coffee lovers ! Highly recommended
E. J.
Absolutely love this little place. I feel it always gets overlooked or bypassed far too easily due to it's location. It took me a couple of times wandering past for me to realise it's actually a treasure trove to coffee and tea lovers.
The staff here are so knowledgeable about the products they're selling that it's very easy to get carried away and start asking a million and one questions before evening making a selection. There are literally wall fulls of options of both coffee and tea, so maybe try to go in with a rough idea of what exactly you're looking for first.
They sell green tea, black tea, fruit tea, flowering tea..almost anything you can think of, along with a wide range of coffee beans from all around the world. They'll even grind the beans down to suit whatever brewing method you prefer to use at home. Brilliant value for money too. Not to be missed!
J. H.
Cappuccino was not the best, but I get the feeling this place is more for espresso drinkers as their bean selection is amazing.
N. K.
Fresh coffee from all over the world. They are friendly and the prices are quite reasonable. They even have tea and different coffee and tea appliances and accessories. I visit regularly to pick my coffee.
K. A.
Nov 2020.
Open for online and click and collect orders during lockdown!!!
Great shop for your coffee desires. You can buy bean, ground or fine. They have many mixes and ranges from across the world, bagged up to order in a range of sizes. Also many cooking pots and accessories. The teas I haven't tried but there seem to be many to choose from.
Staff are really friendly and knowledgeable.
*during COVID queues were sometimes long (20mins for the prelockdown panic) but staff have been efficient at taking and prepping orders outside to make it swifter inside. But at this time I recommend online or click and collect.
Their online store is a great starting point, or pop by to experience the delight of a boutique coffee merchant.
My favourite coffee is the Lebanese with Cardamon - I would recommend!!!
C. I. A.
THE place to buy your coffee, whether beans of ground to your taste. Just the aroma as you walk in the door is a boost. Friendly staff, huge range of excellent coffees and an assortment of coffee making equipment.
R.
My favourite coffee supplier - imagine a traditional sweet shop, and replace the jars of sweets with jars of coffee beans, and you're there. So far, the only place I've found in London that sells Kopi Luwak beans on retail.
J. B.
My favourite coffee specialist shop in the world. Coffee and teas from around the world, plus lots of sweets and treats you won't find anywhere else.
S. Z.
Passed by this small coffee store. A real surprise. A lot of coffee beans selections. Love the coffee beans recommended by the staff. Great value! Would definitely come back for more!
J. H.
Utterly incredible place to visit, if only to have a coffee. If you're a tourist, make a stop here and have a coffee, DO NOT go to Costa, or Nero or whatever. Maybe also buy a kilo of something interesting. And just think, loads of shops used to be like this... it's incredible!
R. S.
They sell beautiful Turkish coffee pots as well as freshly ground coffee per order
C. Y.
Friendly staff and best quality coffee!
A. A.
This is the place to go for coffee lovers. They have different qualities and prices are very fair. Perfect for an espresso on the go! Also you can find sweets, chocolate, mokas and several kinds of coffee makers.
M. J.
Wonderful little shop in the heart of Old Compton Street. Extensive range of coffees and some nice confectionery lines too. Can get cramped and a bit busy, but makes a change from the canned commercialism all too prevalent in central London.
J. F.
Great for classic European Christmas treats - including Stollen, chocolate covered candied peels, biscuits, and sweetmeats. Coffee (beans and grounds) stand out - along with flower teas and more.
J. P.
This place is a treasure in the heart of Soho. A tiny little coffee shop, with an amazing selection. The staff are knowledgable and will help you choose a suitable blend. If you like a nice strong coffee, then you can't go wrong with the veluto nero. Also just pop in for a takeaway espresso.
G. D. C.
Great place. Staff very kind and a great selection of coffees and teas. You can also bring your own recipient to collect the coffee so it is eco friendly as well.
T. A.
Best selection of coffee in Soho. The two Coffee's of the month have yet to disappoint and is value for money at around £6 for 500g. Huge selection of teas too
R. G.
This is one of those places where you can find almost everything to do with coffee. From Ethiopian, Blue Mountain to Kopi Luwak, (if you like that ;)) the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Just walk into smell the coffee or order a great espresso or a cappuccino for 1/3 of the price you'd pay at Nero... now girls and boys, this is not a cafe so please respect those actually buying the coffee. I could do with a coffee merchant like this in the east. If you can afford it, try the Italian Biscotti, (Almond based Florentine Biscuits, my third poison after wine and coffee :)) they are just mouth watering.
p. m.
Wonderful coffee selection but for me best of all is the fact they stock the Calabrian delicacy which is figs stuffed with walnuts and orange peel, all covered in chocolate. Perhaps the perfect sin.
J. S.
Believe the reviews. This is an excellent coffee shop. The take away coffee was only £1.20 and it was so good we bought the beans. Great service and advice
H. H.
Heaven for coffee lovers. You can select from an amazing range of coffee for all tastes and coffee machines. They also know what they are talking about, so ask and tell them what you like and you will find a coffee that's perfect for you.
P. J.
Definitely THE shop for coffee in London. I've been buying Coffee of the Month regularly for at least ten years and it has never been less than very good and usually quite excellent. Fantastic service as well.
E. D.
This iconic shop is great. The people are knowledgeable, the coffee is amazing and it's always somewhere we go when in London. A must if you love coffee too.
K. H.
Really friendly staff who helped me choose the perfect gift for Christmas. The shop was pretty hectic though, so probably best to not go when in a rush! But this may be only during busy periods like Christmas!
T. S. L.
Once walking inside Algerian Coffee Stores on Old Compton Street in Soho, a place that’s been in Marisa’s family since the days of her grandad circa 1948, you’ll soon be reaffirming your coffee addiction. The smell is incredible, the sight immense...
Read more about the great Algerian Coffee Stores, and plenty of other unique independent businesses in London on the Twenty Something London website!
T. 1.
Top espresso experience in Soho and Central London. Great espresso single or double at £1.00. They are there since 1887 for a reason. Thumbs up.
M. G.

O. S.
The choice of coffee alone is incredible, mixed with a 130 year heritage this is a perfect place to get your brewing stocks filled and they do takeaways if you want to try any of the more curious blends.
F. K.
Awesome shop, friendly staff, good selection of coffee and herbal tea. Not really specialist in loose leaf I'd say. But it's never the case when you mix coffee and tea.
J. A.
Received an excellent recommendation here from a young man with dark brown hair and glasses, great service! and great coffee to go with it. Will be back for more very soon.
f. a.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Good quality and range of beans. Useful coffee paraphernalia and dinky hightable spot for a quick brew. The last of its kind.
H. L.
Love it. Very helpful staff, loved the two with the crazy pink color hair! Quirky little coffee shop with cool people working there and great coffee too. See you again soon!
W. S.
Their selection couldn't bean better. Whatever your taste, they've got you coffered, and once you see their teas, you won't want to leaf.
D. L. H.
Very good selection of coffees. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable.
Cheapest take away espresso in the West end.
A. C.
This is without doubt, my favourite coffee shop in the world. A trip to London isn't complete without dropping in to experience the wonderful aroma, and to pick up a supply of velluto nero!
J. K.
Beautiful shop in the heart of Soho. Superb range of coffee and tea from around the world. 10/10
R. L. M.
Great coffee (beans or ground), great prices, lovely people and you can get a takeaway cup for just £1. What's not to like?

R. M.
Great place to visit with wonderful coffee and terrific staff. I highly recommend their online service too. Orders arrive quickly and well packaged (and are delicious!)
J. S.
Not up to the usual very high standard. Got home, to liverpool, to find my coffee beans had been ground without asking me. I wish i had checked before leaving.
S. W.
Nice freshly roasted coffee smell in the shop. Great value on tea. It's actually the supplier of Patisserie Valerie.
M. C.

M. J.
Love this place. Despite being busy the staff take time to ensure you buy what you want and they all love coffee too which means they care about their product.
S. F.
Aromatic to its timbers, the AGS could tempt even non-coffee-drinkers. A huge variety of beans ground to order and an all-too-tempting offering of tempting Italian sweets make this a pleasure stop in the midst of Soho's pleasure-seeking Old Compton Street.
Y. S. L. P.
Great coffee shop, I have been buying coffee from them for a few years now and I can't live without my favourite flavoured coffee from there.

I love my coffee so this shop was like heaven to me. As soon as I entered this small shop the smell of the coffee was just irresistible. They only have coffee to take away which was delicious and cost 1.50 that is nothing. I would like to go back and buy some beans as well. I did not have much time to properly look at everything but the variety of coffees and teas are huge. Also you can find everything else to grind or brew your coffee at home. Recommended!

Coffee to go is out of this world. My brother recommended the Algerian Coffee Store for both coffee to go and also their coffee beans and ground products. He was right to!

(Translated) Huge selection of coffee, friendly sellers. 250 grams of coffee from 4-50 to 25-00 pounds. Here they buy a lot at once! The store is tiny, but go at least breathe in the smell of coffee! There is also a lot of tea, chocolate, etc. payment by cards from 5 pounds (if I did not mess up).
