Reviews of Brunswick East
L. V.
Food was hit or miss and service a bit too slow, the cafe itself is lovely inside. Asked for a second latte that never arrived, had to wait for 2 tables to be seated and place their orders while I waited for the bill. The sourdough was delicious, but another rice dish completely bland. Doubt I’ll go back :-( sorry. 3 stars thanks to the delicious sourdough.
T. V.
Tasty brunch options. Friendly Australian owner. I tried two dishes because the first one was sooo good. Try the chilli eggs and the nasi goreng fried rice. So tasty!
R. R.
Food was good but a bit too much going on. Too much sauce/yogurt etc, sometimes less is more - don't need my bread drowning in yogurt and oil -- but ingredients were high quality (loved the tomatoes). Coffee was decent but barely warm which was odd. Friendly laidback staff. Food was pretty expensive and not a lot of options.
Atmosphere inside was also odd, a bit musty and dark in places, seemed like it could do with a sweep and removal of random curtains. Overall worth trying but wouldn't go there again.

One of the best breakfast in London. Chilli poached was our favourite.
M. L.
Nice place for brunch. There are 2 different places in the same terraza. We enjoy our Food. They have a variety of hot drinks, fresh juices and others drinks. Food is nice
R. E.
Very nice atmosphere. A bit grungy and super hip, fits well with the area and demand of locals with minimalist interior and rustic understated elements.
Had probably the best, brightest matcha latte in town. If you love matcha and chase to see where the best is, it's here. So fresh, pleasant bitterish after-taste and not a single trace of oxidisation.
The add a lot of matcha into the latte so you'll be in cafe-high! The matcha tea was also very nice. Will be visiting again soon for other things!

Really good ! Fresh products, elebaorated dishes, bubbly staff ( GREAT HOSTESS Natasha ). Deffo would come back
R. C.
Beautifully presented food and great flavour to match. The quiet, secluded courtyard is a great space to get away from the hustle and bustle of Dalston. Staff were attentive and upbeat but not intrusive.

We’ve been regulars at Brunswick East for 5 years, and there is no better brunch place in the whole of London. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and the coffee is to the highest Aussie standard. We had been looking for a proper Aussie café like we get at home, and Brunswick East could have easily been in Sydney or Melbourne! Furthermore, it is a welcoming environment to all, even furry friends like our pug Albus.
I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a friendly place, and incredible food!

“Another hipster place with good coffee”
I’m kinda left in two minds about this place. If you ask about coffee then yes, very good and they do oat milk too.
Food - was also good, you’ll see from the pics. Apart from the banana bread which was burnt and did not taste nice.
But the service was weird, maybe even a little rude. I was there late afternoon on a Friday and it wasn’t busy. Asking for a menu seemed like an issue and I was ‘politely’ told it was not table service and I should go up and order. Which I did. Almost immediately the table beside me ordered from the waitress when she asked if they’d like anything else. Happened at another table too. Maybe my face didn’t fit? Who knows but no one smiled and no one was friendly. Wouldn’t go back on these grounds and because there is more competition in dalston with nicer service.
G. S.
Amazingly good breakfast. Top-notch ingredients, service, cooking.
A. E.
The food was fantastic and the service was wonderful! The chili poached eggs toast is not only stunning to look at but so satisfying. And the seasonal smash was also very good. We got lucky to sit by where the food was coming out and the attention and care to the dishes was quite something. And the pastries and coffee another win. There’s a nice courtyard for good weather and indoors is just as lovely. We’ll be regulars at this place from here on out!
R. W.
Cute place and with an outstanding service!
I had a brunch birthday today...
Delicious food and the staff were so lovely!
I even got some freebie shots and a glass of prosecco!
I couldn't ask for more! Amazing experience, honestly :)
Thank you again!
I'll see you very soon for sure
A. T.
Absolutely fantastic, everything perfect from beginning to end. Service super friendly; they have a little waiting area with couches for when you can't be seated immediately which is great. Menu is interesting - vegi and meat options. All the classics but with their own twist. The Japanese style pancakes are INSANE. 10/10. Everything on the menu looks great though, coffee great, tonics / juices /drinks all great. Vibes great. Cannot wait to come in summer and sit outside. New favourite breakfast place. Fire. Well done guys
Edit, 1 year later: came back in summer. Its great
S. M.
This place looks very modern with the menu however i have to mention few things: only oat milk, only apple fresh juices with ginger and carrot or other, very limited number of food choices and all without any meat...
As much as the food looks nice on pics and it was nice to try it, I will not be coming back because it was nothing exceptional. The service apart from one guy was very unattentive, leaving people to wait for a long time when they had free tables, turning quickly so we had to wait to have a chance to ask for more things.
Bloody Mary was tasty but eggs needed salt, pepper..
I will recommend this place if you wish a different twist on small brunch menu..
J. S.
My FAVOURITE brunch spot in Dalston - potentially even East London. The staff are amazingly attentive and you can't beat their cheesymite scroll!
N.
A cute cafe with a DIY vibe of plywood shelving and tables. The food is excellent, make sure you try their guest pour over coffee. We had a Kenyan that with a lemon-like zing.
C. W.
Great place for mid-week working. Open, airy space and very welcoming staff. Had the chilli eggs for lunch (delicious!) and a couple of coffees. No pressure at all from the staff, didn’t feel like I had to rush, and plenty of plug sockets and good wifi for working. A hidden away gem in Dalston certainly. I’ll definitely be back- I want to try the whole menu! The pastries and cakes looked tasty too.
M. N.
Delicious autumnal hash however it was missing a bit of salt. The poached eggs and spinach were a tad too rich as they also had sour cream on the and plenty of butter on the bread. great flat white.
P. T.
Absolutely lovely place. Even more when the sun is out.
It is a hidden gem in the middle of the hectic neighborhood that is Dalston. The inside is very cute and the staff is adorable.
The food is also very tasty with dishes for every type of diet. I recommend this place on a nice sunny weekend. Really loved it.
T. S. C.
One of the best place in London, probably the best one. The food is so delicious and fress and the coffee is excellent, good taste and flavours, perfect microfoam and perfect temperature. Everything what you buy there it has need made there... Amazing... I recommend to everyone to try Brunswick East...
K. V.
The most delicious breakfast I had in ages. The coffee was really nice as well but the poached chilli eggs on toast I had were incredibly good. My belly now feels like it’s wrapt in a warm and cosy blanket. The service was brilliant and everyone was so lovely thank you.
H. Q.
So much love for this place! Food is excellent, bread is great, staff are lovely and it's a great vibe. One of the best brunches in East London
m. p.
Lovely place with a amazing coffee and a really nice and tasty choice of food.
Brunch is amazing!
Really recommend!
E. T.
Incredible food - by far the best place in east for brunch. Not to mention cocktails. Service is outstanding. Thank you x
Q. L.
Have been here on multiple occasions and the food is always consistent: Fresh ingredients and proper potions. HOWEVER, your dining experience greatly depends on your servers. If you can help it and you will, avoid the female attendants for any sort of help. The male attendants are friendly, much nicer and are actually listening.
L. T.
You know that feeling of eating something so good that you never want it to end? I had this experience here. I tried the "hash brown", with avocado and a poached egg, and I enjoyed every bit of it! I will dream about it until next time.
A quite hip cafe/brunch place, with a (sort of) scandinavian aesthetic. Good selection of cakes and coffee. And brunch, of course. A quiet and beautiful back (front?) yard. Top!
M.
Great food and service! Friendly staff and delicious brunch options! Great coffee ☕️ 👍🏼🙌🏼
J. P.
one of the loveliest brunch experiences I have ever had! amazing service, atmosphere, and food. And SO good with dietary restrictions (amazing GF selection!) xo
I. G.
I challenge you to find a better fritter stack. Place is always good. Get there a bit earlier than the rest of the crowd and you'll find it a 5 star experience. A little later ... and the service may struggle, just like any place really. Outside during the sun is definitely key.
L. W.
Amazing food!! Atmosphere and outdoor seating are lovely! Either standard brunch food or Japanese dishes!!
O. B.
Very tasty. Super friendly
J. T.
RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. The congee is from a parallel universe where Brexit never got off the ground and Trump is still just a verb.
Incredibly kind staff, warm atmosphere, top-notch coffee and eats. Instant favorite brunch in London.
S. M.
As a Melbournian, this cafe has me brimming me with Aussie pride. Excellent creative brunch menu and good coffee... Good people watching with some of Dalston's hippest on show.
D. H.
Brilliant vibe, brilliant food & drink and exceptional staff (probably because they're mostly Australian). Really interesting and well executed dishes and reinventions of classics done well. Has become a regular go to
B. C.
Quiet spot for a Friday lunch, lovingly made by the staff; a bright cheerful hello as I walked in.
The cauliflower toast with avocado, onion jam, poached egg and sprouts was a treat. Ask for an extra egg! Somewhat secluded to locate, so look for Yolk Yoga, and they're right next door.
H. K.
Three words: chilli poached eggs. Sounds simple, but it will not disappoint! The rest of the menu sounded very unique and looked delicious as well.
C. G.
The best gluten free bread (sourdough!) I’ve ever had. Hands down.
É. L.
Very accommodating staff and delicious food as always!
Despite arriving 15min prior to our booking and requiring a 3rd chair for our booking of 2, staff managed to help us out and we were sitting in no time, all 3 of us, enjoying the sun. Thanks again for the perfect Sunday brunch experience!
D. N.
Brunch is amazing, the sourdough is really good. Coffee wasn't quite as good, but go for the food.
V. K.
Delicious food. A good place for brunch. Reasonable prices.
P. P.
The waitresses are lovely and friendly. The drinks comes really quick and the food was delicious. You need to read the menu a few times to know what are you ordering but the food was amazing and fresh.
B. C.
Love this place so much.
In and out of pandemic they have managed to have a great atmosphere... that’s impressive.
Food is always outrageously tasty... my favourite I think were the Kari eggs and some delicious corn/chilli/eggs on toast. Oh and the bread 🥖, unbelievabley good, so much flavour. Coffee is a solid 5/5 every time.
To top it all off their team are so friendly and always sooo chilled out... exactly what you need on a weekend to ease you in. Think it’s safe to say I’m a fan... Big... Huge!
M. S.
I’ve been here a few times. It’s a neighbourhood staple. Mixed quality Asian-inspired brunch food (e.g., Okonomiyaki is divine, Beef Tapa is rather boring); casual relaxed vibe; forgetful and overextended service (e.g., smoothie never arrived after 30 mins and had to ask for a refund, server brought a different meal than what we ordered)
A. W.
Perfect “little” brunch spot, amazing service, lot of options for several dietary preferences.
M. B. (.
Very busy place with variety of vegan options. Lovely coffee. The mushroom sourdough is definitely the best I've ever had.
O.
Fast service even for a busy Saturday. The food and coffee was so good. I would definately recommend If you're looking for good brunch around Dalston.
I. C.
Stunning food and coffee. Great service. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Go.
J. G.
Mixed together hummus and fish with two poached eggs on top. Yes, you read that right. Sounded extremely strange at the time but my curiosity got the better of me and nothing I tasted before could have prepared me for this new dish that greeted my taste buds. A light meal that was deceptively filling, the flavour was magnificent. The freshness of the toast served with it made every bite saturated with the sauce a new experience that was easily washed down by the house beer that I also recommend. I will definitely be coming back.
As someone shielding during the Covid period, I was a bit apprehensive about eating out. When I arrived, I was glad to see that all waiters, chefs, and members of staff wore face masks, adhered to social distancing guidelines as best they could and provided hand sanitizer upon entry.
D. R.
Great brunch, and nice vibe even with covid
V. W.
Delicious food, friendly staff - a great experience. Will definitely come again!
F. R.
I love this place, the food, the coffee and the atmosphere are all spot on.
I went there a couple days ago and had the tomato toast, it was amazing, so full of flavour.
It's really nice to sit on the big terrace and just have a coffee but would highly recommend ordering something to eat (even just a pastry)
R. H.
Really good brunch and great filter coffee 👌. The service is also exceptional which really sets this place apart. Highly recommend 👍
A.
Food was very tasty and obviously very hipsterish which brings me to my only negative - why charge £1 extra for oat milk ? I mean this is Dalston and not Starbucks.
S. L.
Bets brunch of East London
👍 as good as it looks (or even better)
👍 very original and vegan friendly
👍 nice and quiet outside Area
A must go!
E. C.
Slow service, OK coffee, but always end up returning for the convenience so I must find something appealing about it! I guess there's always something funny happening.
l. m.
Very good flat white but £3.90!!! Didn't notice til I checked my account the next day. Most expensive coffee ever and bang in the middle of Hackney.
M. S.
Friendly service. Carrot cake was delicious, coffee was good.
S. C.
It is always packed so be ready to queue. Great vegan and vegetarian choices and they are all really yummy
J. T.
RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. The congee is from a parallel universe where Brexit never got off the ground and Trump is still just a verb. …
D. L.
Great coffee and yummy food and treats!
Down a little lane which isn't always immediately obvious...
A. G.
The staff was so lovely and fun, the food was delicious, the venue is cosy and adapted to all types of weather (even cold and rain). Will definitely be going again and would highly recommend!
J. D.
My favourite brunch in Dalston. Wonderful quick service, staff are friendly. Food is delicious.
K.
The food is fantastic. I was introduced to chilli poached eggs here and my life hasn’t been the same since! I order them every time and I even make them at home (but, of course, not nearly as well as they do!!)
F. M.
Delicious coffee, great food and customer service. One recommendation would be to remove the bins.
J. D.
Great food & coffee! Veggie okonomiyaki was 10/10
J. D.
My favourite brunch in Dalston. Wonderful quick service, staff are friendly. Food is delicious.
A. K.
They seen better days. The menu was not as inventive as I have had eaten there before, pre covid times. All 3 items on the menu were just a different variation of eggs on a big slab of sourdough bread. The decking looks great, but I hope they switch back to quality meals vs quantity of customers fed.
E. G.
Delicious brunch menu.
f. s.
Fantastic food. The food is definitely the standout of this place. A friend of mine used to work here, so I got some insights into how very well thought out the menu is and how fresh the ingredients are. This is reflected in the prices, but rightly so. Portions are huge. Ok drinks and coffee, so overall a great option for brunch. During winter, the inside of the place can get a bit stuffy. However in the warmer months it’s great to sit outside. It’s always packed but I’ve never waited too long for a table. Service is kind and attentive. Not sure I’m a fan of the hip crowd, but I can bear it for the tasty food.
M. M. (.
This place delivers every single time.
The quality of the ingredients, creative seasonal dishes and their amazing sourdough makes this a must visit. The atmosphere is really cool and staff friendly with fast service.
The only thing that is a bit annoying is the fact you smell like food when you leave. Ventilation not so great. Still 5/5 for me
J. J. A. K. K.
Oh I love everything on their menu. Fast service and delicious food❤
A. M.
I loved it. Coffee was delicious, massive range of food options (sweets, savoury, hot and cold) and all very good quality. The food serving is generous which would certainly make me want to come back.
Some good Aussie treats available to!
They have a lot of seating including inside and outside.
I would recommend for solo or groups. Also good for working on your laptop or chilling with mates.
A. G.

Delicious coffee, great food and customer service. One recommendation would be to remove the bins.

Good vibe, great coffee and fantastic food. Had a cappuccino: the milk which was creamy and smooth didn’t overpower the taste of the espresso. And the chilli poached eggs were a great balance of flavours. Highly recommend!
C. S.
I’ve been here multiple times and although the food has been overall good on all occasions, I have noticed that the quality and portions have been decreasing over the past 6-12 months. I ordered the same dish about 6 months apart (vegan mushroom forest) and the quality (bread especially) and size have radically changed (and not for the better). The drinks are always good! Get there before 12 on weekends if you want to avoid the wait.
J. D.
Great food & coffee! Veggie okonomiyaki was 10/10
D. L.
Great coffee and yummy food and treats!
Down a little lane which isn't always immediately obvious...
C. N.
This place is yet another gem for Dalston. The people working here are an absolute delight and I always leave smiling. They've also started doing their own breads by the loaf which are fantastic and organic.
If I had one gripe it would be the mushroom pie I ordered. The pastry was amazing and delicate but there wasn't very much mushroom in it. Mostly sweetcorn and red pepper, both of which I like but when you order a mushroom pie...
But please don't let that put you off and support your local shops and cafés.
M. Q.
The staff were really friendly and although my visit was a short one it was a really nice atmosphere and a great cappuccino that comes with an extra shot of espresso by default ❤️
E. T.
Delicious breakie and a perfect cup of coffee. Thank you!
H. D.
Delicious ! Place is very warm, quite busy.

Been here twice, the food is always excellent and it is great to see that they update the menu regularly. Service is good and we haven't needed to wait too long either time we went even though it was mid-morning on a weekend...prime brunch time!
The only issue we had was that the second time we went the coffee wasn't too great. It seems that they had maybe over-extracted it and therefore it was quite bitter. It may have been a one-off issue, but it was the same for both of our coffees.
b.
Sat outside, all the staff were wearing masks and following protocol. Food was very good, great choices for vegans. Would suggest getting in early if you aren't able to book.

Love thai food and this brought it home, I felt as if I were on holiday. Where have this gem been hiding, i am so glad to find this place. Will try the whole menu next time.

I’ve been coming here for the last 4 years and I have never been disappointed with the quality of food, super friendly and cool team. Definitely in my top 3 brunch places in London.
m. m.
AMAZING! Loved the place and the service. Lovely people and ambiance.
H. B.
Really great service, staff were polite, welcoming and charming. Even though there was a 20 minute wait for food there was a very comfortable waiting area with coffees available. Food was delish and so were the drinks. Would recommend to all who I meet! Well done.
M. P.
What friendly people working there! What a wonderful food is there! What an amazing outside area! What else you need? It is a must visit place!
K. E. G.
Lovely Australian style brunch place. Nice smoothies and insta worthy brunches, suitable for veggies but quiet a limited selection of food generally so not the place for fussy eaters very busy mainly outdoor seating and best on a warmer day
A. L.
Amazing friendly staff! And the best chocolate cherry gateaux, which we got free as it was closing for New Years Eve! Great coffee, great vibes! Hugely recommend! Thank you!
S. G.
I’ve been coming here for the last 4 years and I have never been disappointed with the quality of food, super friendly and cool team. Definitely in my top 3 brunch places in London.
K. N.
Fantastic brunch or coffee spot, tucked away behind the busier parts of dalston. The large outdoor courtyard is a great sun trap and can accommodate large groups.
Food is also excellent, fresh and healthy and staff are wonderfully friendly
G. W.
Quite honestly the best brunch spot in Dalston. The team are amazing and the food impresses everyone I bring. Solid options for vegans (with a new menu coming out soon which promises even more).
Buzzing vibe and plenty of indoor and outdoor space. A must visit.
Oooh and the vegan snickers are to die for.

Everything is great! The ingredients are of good quality! The staff is very kind and friendly. Nice spot!
A. K.
I really enjoyed the brunch here. My partner and I both got vegetarian dishes that were really vibrant and delicious. Coffee was good and service was friendly.
A.
Hidden gem in Dalston. Perfect brunch spot to forget the hectic environment and life in London. Served food is well made and menu carefully thought through - and it’s all served by the most cheerful and nicest staff you’ll find in the neighbourhood.
D. W.
This place is the best cafe in London hands down. Amazing coffee and fantastic food. Don't expect a full English here, expect inventive takes on antipodean cafe classics. Extremely friendly staff. I can not rate this place high enough. Go there!
J. K.
Holy moly that was incredible
A. H.
Delicious and interesting menu, my favourite spot. Cosy interior and spacious outdoor space. Lovely coffee and their cold buster drink will knock your socks off if fighting some pre-winter bugs
N.
Love this place. The food is TOP. Prices have been raised though, menu has changed a bit and now they dont offer table service which isn't great. I think our brunch was too pricey this time around. Was loving this place before but now it's too expensive. £££
A. K.
Really good coffee. The one they had on was a bit too fruity for my personal taste but right up my boyfs street and I enjoyed it nonetheless. This may be slightly unfair as it was between Xmas and new year so maybe they were shorter on staff but the service was insanely slow.
S. M.
Absolutely my favorite breakfast place in London - perhaps being an Aussie has something to do with that !!! Breakfast options are all - blow you away delicious! Fresh, locally sourced ingredients, inventive
and all topped off by super friendly owners who are always up for a friendly chat/ banter!!! A real gem!!!
L. G.
Going out on a limb and calling this my favourite brunch place in the whole of London. They’ve just extended to include a load more inside seating which is good news as it can get very busy on weekends. Go for breakfast, stay for the cold brew martini
S. W.
Really nice spot for brunch, good service with lots of choice. Gets quite crowded with Aussies and hipsters from 11 onwards, expect to wait for a table. Nice in the summer when you can sit outside
L. K.
The food is definitely the standout of this place. Portions are huge. Drinks and coffee are okay, so overall a great option for brunch.
k. M.
Go here for the food and you'll be floored by the excellent and super friendly service. Go for the brilliant coffee and the menu will blow your mind. All around excellent place to be.

Always banging food and coffee, bloody Mary’s the best you’ll find

Delicious food. Severely understaffed. Our coffee came way later than out food - our smoothie never showed up. But would still go back.

Superb breakfasts/brunch and one of the best bloody mary's in London!
Mega chilled out place, and staff are all super lovely and friendly.
A. N.
Very friendly. Great food. Great coffee. Can't ask for much more. Maybe the bacon can be crisper, but otherwise terrific
M. L.
Amazing food, drinks and service with fantastic vegan options! I also love the interior, it's really cosy.

My second home. I absolutely love this place. Everything on the menu is brilliant and the coffee is world class. I come here a few times a week.

Great location, atmosphere, food and coffee! Fantastic staff. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience! Compliments to the chef ;)

Very Hipster Brunch place with nice inventive dishes! Even though they recently expanded their space you might still need to wait in line on busy weekends!
A. F.
Vibrant, fantastic coffee, delicious snacks and meals that caters for everyone. In the summer the courtyard is a winner. It's tucked away from the lively Gillet Square.

This is a great place for brunch over the weekend and a good spot to work from during the week. Food is great, although a bit pricey.
A. M.
Been a few times now, always really good food and service. Gets pretty busy though, but worth the wait. They do proper flat whites
M. J. M.
Amazing food with a twist and great coffees. It's usually quite busy on weekends so be prepared to wait or have an alternative place in mind
G. C.

Absolutely lovely! Undoubtedly the best cafe in Dalston, made even better by the absolutely wonderful and engaging waitress Alice who made my experience so perfect. She recommended to have my banana bread toasted with butter, which i never would have thought to do but it was DELICIOUS. Would recommend the apple juice!!!

(Translated) A little hidden and you have to go with clear indications if you have never gone there. Once there, it is worth it, for the photos, you can see the type of dishes. Very well kept interior and very friendly staff. There are tables on the terrace "smoke-free", if it had not been cold, it would have been my first choice.
