Reviews of Kobo Cafe
K.
If in Islington skip every other coffee shop and come here.
My flat white was sublime 😍
And the owners were super friendly they even do doggie treats
Can’t wait to come back
A. K.
Fantastic selection of coffee, juices, smoothies and especially cakes and pastries! The chocolate and custard muffin is my favourite but can't wait to try the halva brownie.
N. S.
This place is wonderful. I love their coffee, the variety they have and their staff is very welcoming. They really look after their products and you can tell they really care and have true passion for coffee. Really recommend this place, if you want to try one of the best coffees in London!
F. T.
Friendly service and tasty coffee. Their gluten free baked goods are pretty decent. The brownie a bit too fudgie, but good with the salt to balance out the sweetness. The pistachio loaf was delicious, not very sweet. It was a bit too dry though.
It can get a bit packed upstairs, but that's part of the charm of this place.
G. V.
Very cute little cafe located in trendy Angel. Friendly staffs, good and reasonably priced coffee, and tasty food! Their avocado toast was very refreshing - had some splash of lemon juice on top and a cute flower!
We went on Saturday around 3pm and some of the food were already sold out (soup and toast with chicken). However, the staffs were still very friendly apologizing about it and tried to recommend us something else.
R. M.
Come here every morning with my gf. Best coffee place in Islington. The staff are all super friendly, remember our orders and welcoming.
m. k.
Good coffee and lovely staff the only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the breakfast .I got salmon avocado scrambled egg on toast with good presentation of the plate but the scrumble egg was microwaved not cooked in a pan I don't know maybe you can't cook in this premises . I would give 5* if I just had the coffee.
C. S.
Nice little cafe with limited seats so it would not ever get too noisy, although the small space might mean greater reverberation. However the morning I was there, it was peaceful. Iced latte was really good and smooth. Got the £5 breakfast set. Protein Bowl was small portioned but pretty good. Muffin was tasty too. Friendly staff. Nothing too exceptional but nothing to fault.
T. K.
Truly a great place. Coffee is amazing, probably the best in the area. Every cake I tried was great and with consistent quality. Service is super friendly.
D. F.
Lovely cafe with very nice staff. Deceptively big too with lots of seating room upstairs. Drinks are delicious, particularly the matcha latte. Menu is filled with various food options from light bites to bigger Lunches and a great range of sweet treats. Great gluten free /vegan options too!
S. P.
Nlice little place. Don't like big chains, so this suits so much better. It's such a narrow building though, that it doesn't really stand out from the street.
Friendly and helpful staff. Like the decor and the food was really nice.
Just be aware that the stairs to the upstairs seating area are quite steep and the treads are rather narrow, so be careful coming down the stairs.
I. R.
Small and cosy cafe in angel. Staff was very friendly and food tasted fresh and healthy. Prices are reasonable as well. If I had to suggest one thing, would be better to not use chipped plates and cups :)
M. Z.
Beautiful food and the staff is super friendly helpful and kind. I loved the chilled atmosphere KOBO offers right next to Angel. They have healthy flavoursome vegan options, the masala chai with oat milk was absolutely delicious and freshly squeezed juices. Highly recommended!!
A. H.
Delicious gluten-free and dairy-free pastries, nice juice selection, great sandwiches. Everyone working there seemed knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Would definitely visit again.
M. N.
How can't I love this place! Coffee is amazing (especially iced latte), bakeries are absolutely fresh and delicious, staffs are always nice and kind! 1st floor seats are always clean and cozy. Definitely recommend.
P. B.
Lovely little Cafe near Angel. The staff is really nice and chatty, the service is quick and they have a good selection of coffee beans.
They offer a good variety of sandwiches and soups for dinner as well as very nice sweets to accompany your coffee.
Make sure to check out the space upstairs if you're eating in!

Really lovely little coffee shop in Angel — best in the area! Luminescent, cozy upper room great for chatting with friends or getting some work done. A hidden gem, would highly recommend.
S. Š.
Amazing coffee and lovely food too! Really enjoyed a veggie wrap and caramel brownie with a biscuit on the top !! We got to Angel really tired after a long 30km bike ride and we were so happy to find this place to get some good food and coffee which we took to enjoy by the canal !!
L.
This is such a gem of a coffee/cafe shop in Angel! It's super narrow and has borrow stairs to upstairs where there are a couple of seats for you to eat/drink in. Service was excellent! I had a delicious avocado on toast with some egg on the side. I also had matcha latte with oat milk which was really nice! Can't wait to to be back already 😍
L. C.
Very welcoming and cosy atmosphere upstairs! Really nice fitout.
Great place to enjoy some really good coffee which can sometimes be hard to find in London!
I also had one of the savoury muffins and avocado on toast - both = delicious
B. F.
Small and cozy cafe. Very friendly staff and delicious food. Excellent selection.
K. D.
One of the best places to get coffee in Angel! Given the small size of the shop you queue on the left side to order and the right side of the store to pick up. And employee comes out with an iPad to take your order and you pay contactless through the window. Great system plus excellent coffee and baked goods is a winning combination!
J. J.
Looked like a cute coffee shop, but they are incredibly slow. I only ordered beans and they took over 15min just to grind them. I understand it takes time for espresso drinks, but grinding beans?
C. Y.
Lovely cosy independent coffe shop with sweet and savoury snacks, friendly service, free WiFi, range of milk alternatives.
C. M.
Favourite coffee place in the area! They’re always nice, with great coffee. I especially appreciate that they have cold brew all year round.
G. D.
Lovely cafe with amazing coffee! Lovely wibe, great customer service and their vegan milk is really good!
N. T.
Kobo is a lovely independent coffee shop that's easy to miss.
The coffee is easily the best in the area, and the cheese toasties are worth stopping in for too.
The team are very friendly too, and they've adapted amazingly to the coronavirus, with an efficient ordering and collection process.
C. G.
Amazing latte, very nice staff and owner. If you have some time go upstairs to enjoy your drink. Peaceful atmosphere!
D. N.
This cafe is one of the hidden gems. It is so narrow that you can miss it very easily but when I walked in I immediately loved it. They have a very cute seating area upstairs with a window overlooking the beautiful neighbourhood around. The coffee is really good but I didn't have the chance to try any of the pastries
D. K.
Pleasant but very steep steps to upstairs floor. Useful for waiting for business design centre
M. S.
Great filter coffee! Surely recommend this place.
N. C.
Cutest little independent coffee shop with great service. Very nice chilled atmosphere.
P. T.
Great little coffee shop by people who know and love what they're doing - a winning combination. Changing beans and origins, uncommon cold drip coffee is good. I've not had a chance to try their food but it looked homemade and fresh, will definitely eat there at some point.
F. J.
This is the smallest , trendiest impact cafe I've ever visited. They only have seating upstairs. The walk in is a very narrow serving area. So on a busy Saturday like today you would need to order and stand outside to allow others to get in to order.
The coffees were good but a touch too cold.
We will defno stop off here again to grab a bite if in the area.
C. B.
I don't normally leave restaurant / cafe reviews, but had such a perfect time at Kobo, I had to do it. Great selection of loose leaf teas (including a delicious pu-erh), amazing selection of vegan cakes and really lovely staff! It's now a new favourite! <3
R. B.
One of the best and proper Cappuccinos have had in London. Is a respite to have such with likes of the 'assembly line' orientated barista service in the bigger coffee chains that mostly serve burnt coffee and foam. Easy to miss with narrow shop front but once been you will not forget where it is. Thanks for your great coffee.
Y. V.
Great, great latte and pour over. Quiet and nice seating area upstairs. Friendly owner who is passionate about his coffee. Also good place to buy coffee beans, which are ground to your specifications. I have a feeling we will become regulars here! :)
C. K.
Lovely, delicious coffee and cake, good music, what's not to like ? :)
P.
Cute little cafe in the hear of Angel. Friendly staff and great tasting coffee. Served from outside due to covid. Contact less payment system in place. Would def go back when im in the area next.
M. B.
Not being a fan of clean eating and looking at organic hipsters with unalloyed suspicion, I am nevertheless happy to declare Kobo the best coffee shop in the area and (I believe) in central London. Leo and his team are hardworking, detail-oriented and offer a great welcome. They always seem to care about their standards and their customers too. Always looking to improve, this place is great and will only get better.
C. H.
Kobo is a cute little coffee shop that's along the high street and easy to miss if you don't know it's there. It's definitely worth checking out though because their coffee is top quality. Smooth and rich and always served with a smile, you'll always have a good time coming here. They offer a loyalty card scheme which you'll find yourself filling up quickly.
There is also a tasty selection of sandwiches and cakes available making it a delightful experience to sit in and have a bite to eat.
E. “. R. C.
The prices are very reasonable and tye coffee is always spot on. Friendly staff even first thing in the morning. Had some lovely conversations with the staff and always a pleasant interaction.
Not much seating upstairs but always worth a little pop in if you are in the area.
They now do smoothies and a number of different foods on display though I haven't tried any.
M. G.
Staff is lovely. Food is good but could be better or maybe is just my taste haha coffee os really nice but served on cold glasses so it reaches your table colder than it should. Price is on point.
Go upstairs! It's a cute and cozy place.
E. B.
Kobo being open since the beginning of lockdown helped me kick my Starbucks habit. Great coffee, friendly staff and delicious food too.
M. G.
Charming little coffee place. The coffee is amazing every time I have been there and the prices are fair. The service is more than good. The staff are always friendly and accommodating. There is a nice upstairs area if you want to have your coffee indoors.
M. P.
My favourite cafe in London. The coffee is the best in the area, the staff are all lovely and the food is delicious. There’s a lovely little seating area upstairs full of natural light. Definitely recommended!
B. A.
This little gem of a place has become my top choice for gorgeous coffee in Islington’s over-supplied coffee universe. I’ve recently been experimenting with their nice range of black, green and herbal teas too and really enjoying the care and affection that goes into them. It’s small and intimate and a lovely place to chill out with a book, catch up with a friend or get through some work on the go!
G. L.
We came here last summer and fell in love with the latte. This time in winter, we absolutely had to come back and we weren't disappointed. In a city with so many coffee joints, Kobo does it better.
J. O.
Cute cafe with a few tables upstairs for seating. Coffee is so-so. Ordered a cappuccino which came in a massive mug so the milk ratio is quite high relative to coffee. Could be a great coffee if it was a smaller portion and less milk. Very friendly staff and owner.
D. B.
Stylish yet cosy cafe in a great location. The cakes and snacks are super yummy and the Swedish Brew coffee is among the best I've had in London. The upstairs area is great to get some work done or to hang out with friends during the weekend. Definitely a great addition to the Angel cafe scene!
B. Y.
We found this place by chance a few months ago, when we were still new to the neighborhood, and we have been regulars ever since. In Kobo we have always found delicious organic food (the Red Leicester toastie is to die for!) combined with the most amazing rage of coffees (if you are on the go, definitely try the Italian espresso, a true energy booster!). Moreover, what really makes the experience stand out is the friendliness and general attitude of the staff. Everyone is super nice and they will go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home. You can clearly see that everyone is putting their souls into what they do and this makes us want to support them even more! Finally, being French/Italian and super picky about food and in particular about coffee, we can definitely testify to the superior quality of their coffee. The owner even managed to make me, a true espresso lover, switch to the americano more often that I would like to admit! If you are in the neighborhood, do yourself a favor and try this little gem, chances are you will probably end up being a regular too! Thank you so much guys!
H. S.
Cute and cosy. Great vegan and gluten free choices. Had a delicious parsnip and cauliflower soup with sour dough toast. Followed by a gf vegan pistachio cake and coffee with oat milk. Great, attentive and thoughtful service. Will be back.
t. t.
Amazing Swedish brew coffee and delicious cake! Really welcoming atmosphere with lovely staff and owner. The seating upstairs is a great space for escaping the hustle and bustle of Upper Street.
U. Z.
Little and very cozy. Super friendly staff. Guess it might get very busy on weekends due to limited space ft. good quality. Avocado bread (cousin of banana bread) was a great discovery.
n.
Really nice and attentive staff and great coffee! They make a very tasty oat milk latte and have a variety of different food - healthy as well as cakes etc! Nice quiet seating upstairs with sockets, usb charging sockets and good wi-fi
M. R.
Really good coffee and friendly staff. Coffee of unfailing good quality and prepared with a lot of care. It has a very pleasant room upstairs where you can have a sit and do some work.
N. B. (.
Great coffee and not expensive
Their coffee beans have roots in Ethiopia and have a delicious rich flavour. Extremely smooth and delicious (even for a non coff person like me!)
There are snacks and treats to nibble on and a cosy upstairs for a quiet getaway.

'Girls who Grind coffee' is a women empowered workshop where Kobo source their coffee from. They encourage women farmers and those who support them. To find out more, check them out on Google!

Nice, very little, coffee place in Angel.
The girl serving me was nice and the flat white was decent.
They have a promotion running at the moment, £1 for any coffee to go!!! That's quite amazing considering the prices in London!
The pastel de nata was ok, cheap(£1,50), but unfortunately undercooked in my opinion. It could have been bad luck :)
They have a fidelity card and SURPRISE SURPRISE, they're willing to keep it there with your name on it, so you don't have to have it with you all the time!
I loved that!
S. M.
Wonderful little cafe. Great for the health conscious like me. The staff there absolutely amazing, go the extra mile and care for their customers. I felt blessed being there. Thank you!
F. T.
What a wonderful place this is! I keep passing it by for about a year now thinking that it could be a great spot! I brought in my best friend today we had a Hazel flatwhite and some soup and a slice of super chocolaty vegan cake. Amazing selection, very good presentation, knowledgable and friendly baristas, super tidy environment, excellent higiene and an overall good time! I'll definitely come back
R. C.
Nice place to have a coffee, good quality and beautiful interior terrace. I really recommend you to go there but be patient because they are serving slowly!
E. T.
Great café with lovely staff. I've tried the smoothies and the cakes - absolutely delicious and healthy as well (no refined sugars) which is a great bonus. I definitely recommend it!
E. M.
Always a pleasure to visit Kobo. This time we tried the breakfast selection and we were impressed with how yummy the quiche and toasties were. Coffee is also great. Service friendly as always. Thank you!

M. M.
They know their stuff, and have properly trained baristas but staff can very. I just asked for a flat white twice. The lady behind the counter asked me what a ‘flash mat’ was and I left. It’s been good in the past though so 🤷🏼♂️
M. A.
Delicious coffee, very knowledgeable staff - Alberto I believe his name is? The café is wonderfully decorated. Costa Rican is a must try for those who enjoy a fruity coffee.
