Reviews of Maitre Choux Soho
M.
This is a lovely patisserie! We went on a whim looking for a late night treat and the eclairs exceeded our expectations. The staff working were also very friendly and helped us choose. To our delight, we were also given a free choux bun each! We couldn’t eat them there however and took them home and they were delicious, even though it was the next day!
Looking forward to making another trip!
M. -. m.
It’s French Pâtisserie at its finest! The choux pastry is super light leaving the inside soft and hollow, filled with all kinds of flavoured cream, and the outside golden and crispy. Both of the treats were so divine..
K. B.
One of my favourite cafes in Soho. I normally go for a matcha latte but the Monmouth coffee they use did not disappoint. Also the coffee eclair is the best on the menu! Staff also friendly and welcoming.
D.
The filled mini choux was one of the best desserts I've had in a while. You get to choose filling, toppings (choose between fresh strawberry, nuts, dried raspberries etc) and then whipped cream and a sauce and had that with a pot of tea, which was great. The lady who served me was really nice. Also open til 12am so perfect for when looking for a late night dessert where you can also sit at a table. Will definitely be coming back!
K. A.
Amazing place for coffee and dessert. They have a wide variety of eclairs.
R. A.
Wow. I wasn't even looking for this place, but I was intrigued when I walked past. They have all the choux's they offer displayed in the window, and they all looked fantastic. We ended up trying a couple in the cafe while seated and took a couple away as a takeaway. You'll see from the photos that they are little pieces of art and the ones we tried tasted amazing also. I'd particularly recommend the pistachio flavour - that was the best. But their lemon meringue and hazelnut flavour were also very good.
Regardless of whether you eat in or get a takeaway, each choux is also served with a "chouquette" which is a light choux ball. I could honestly eat 20 of them in one go!
With something that looks this good and taste brilliantly as well, you can imagine they are pricey... and they are. They are around £5-6 each for what is essentially a choux eclair pastry. So can imagine it is just for a treat for most people. But would highly recommend trying them in the area. Their chouquette can also be bought and they cost around £3.50-4.50 for 10 of them, depending on whether you dine in our get a takeaway. So if you don't feel like forking out a fiver on an eclair, defo go for the chouquette's at least!
D. R.
You may ask how good is a £5.80 Choux eclair, one bite and I can honestly say... Very good.
I had the Paris Brest and it tasted amazing.
The lady that served me, very polite; an easy 5 star.
G. S.
I felt I was in Paris. If this is not convincing enough for you, their eclairs are outstanding. The whole place has such a great atmosphere. It is cosy, well lit, nicely decorated, and welcoming.
The star of the attraction is, of course, the eclairs. The strawberry and pistachio are our favourite. They serve green matcha tea 🍵 and it is heavenly.
The place is not cheap, but nothing good in the world really is.
W. L.
Super fancy choux pastries. Expensive but worth a try - you've probably not had one this nice before!
The real stars for me are the Chouxettes mini pastries. Very reasonably priced and absolutely delicious.

Maitre Choux has the best eclairs and choux in London and that is the fact!
It’s not only pretty but delicious as well! They are using top ingredients! The head chef and Co Owner is Joakim Prat. He is very talented Michelin Stars level pastry Chef. His goal was to give people Michelin level experience for a for affordable price. Yes they are not cheap, but you can treat yourself! One eclair is around £5.80-£7.00 depend on the flavour.
They have 3 shops, but in Soho is the biggest one where you can as well have an afternoon tea experience with the choux and champagne.
They are open till late. The design of the cafe is very pretty and stylish. Insta bloggers, you will Love it! Hope you will like it as much as I do!
D. O.
They have invented an entire new test for the eclair. They are light, with just the right sweetness. Just like a precious jewels that no one expect to be SO GOOD! All the once we tried were excellent. Definitely a new level of deserts. Keep the great work! We all need Maitre Choux in our life.
C. J.
Bit disappointed: The choice was very limited this time and the sweets not that exciting, but still so beautiful
L. L.
Coffe was really nice and service too. A bit high prices for an eclair but I guess the location and "name" supposedly justify it.
W. W.
This place looks amazing and the choux pastries look divine. Personally, I prefer my eclairs crisp, and I found mine a bit too sogggy. At £6-7 per small eclair, I expected more, pretty as they are. It looks better than it tastes. I prefer the choux.
Overall the cafe feels like a fashionable and stylish trend at the moment, but I wonder how long it will last.
O. M.
Amazing eclairs, the paris Brest is outstanding!
H. A.
Eclairs are their speciality and they do this quite well.
Not overwhelmingly sweet so you can taste the flavor quite well. The texture is spot on too. The one I tried (pictured) had a nice crusty thin golden layer, then a cake-like soft layer stuffed with hazelnut (?) chocolate cream. If there are any standards for eclairs then they sure exceed those standards as all the other eclairs I tried ended up with a sloppy mess and none were as “fancy” as this.
It’s the kind of pleasure you don’t feel too guilty about.
Prices are on the higher side but it’s not something you will want to be addicted to anyway. This is what I would call a “modest treat” but is still a “treat”. The place itself is quite small and can get busy. It didn’t feel cozy but the service was welcoming. More like a place you’d grab a small bite from and go.
a.
My eclair broke. :( The pastries and decor are intricate and beautiful, but I don’t think that’s enough to justify the price for an eclair. I’ll be back to try other flavours, but for me I prefer the round pastry (forget the name)- and it’s cheaper! So yeah, it’s good and instagrammable, but a little overrated and overpriced
e. j.
Came here as part of a self guided bakery and patisserie tour of London. Yes, very pretty. Yes, very tasty. Minus one star for overpriced. Got the blackberry cheesecake choux. Lots of fillings and not too sweet. Would recommend if you are wanting to taste something out of the ordinary. Price is the only inhibitor for daily trips.
M. M.
I love this place! The choux buns are amazing and the coffee here is fantastic. There is usually a great selection on offer, and they bake during the day too.
The pistachio and strawberry I had was lovely. I usually prefer the salted caramel but thought I’d go for a change!
I do, however, find that the buns are better value than the eclairs (and are a couple of pounds cheaper). The eclairs look amazing and are very, very, beautiful. But for flavour, I think the buns win.
D. L.
One of the best Eclair in London. It’s 5 for the Eclairs, and not because the sitting as a coffee shop.
A. J.
The place is actually nice but I expect something exquisite from its eclair since the visual is attractive. However when I tried two different flavour for its eclair, the taste did not represent their price. Bit overrated I would say.
A. S.
The éclairs look incredible. The pastry is of the finest quality and they are not sweet which is good. However I want to be blown away by 4 éclairs that cost £21. But I wasn't. Especially the raspberry, I would go as far to say that was underwhelming.
T. P.
Pretty looking eclairs. Pretty good tasting too!
Edit: I went back and there was a hair in the eclair. The waitress was happy to change it out and was apologetic, but there was a hair.
Also one of the sales men for 2 days has massive cold/herpes sores on his lip. This is just a comment although I secretly have concerns that it would affect the product if the gentlemen is in charge of production and happens to inadvertently lick spoons etc.

ECLAIR @ @maitrechoux LONDON 🇬🇧
Thoughts 💭
Classic British style choux that is soft rather than crispy. We found the pistachio flavouring lot a left to be desired, however, the hazelnut and milk chocolate eclair was a true highlight. I personally prefer my choux pastry crispy but I can see the allure here.
L.
The best eclaire in London for sure. I like the thing that you paying only by card (London 2019) nice.... the one star that is missing is because I think is a little bit overpriced... and the fact that I can not resist to this taste every time I'm taking one of each
R.
Great service and love a maitre choux. Always stocked up on all flavours. Highly recommend if you enjoy creamy/mouse desserts.
H.
Delicious and beautiful eclairs with a variety of flavours. Very expensive for 4 eclairs and not really worth the price but a nice dining experience.
남.
After having chinese meals (which made me sick), we’ve stopped by this dessert shop.
A little bit pricy but it deserves to go here.
They make a cup of coffee with monmouth beans as you know it’s like a dope.
Best collaboration eclair with monmouth black coffee.
Much go place in london.
C. F.
Excellent eclairs, but the main reason I go is for the wonderful chouquettes - little choux buns with no filling but some sugar on top, a perfect treat.
C. L.
Having eaten so many kinds of profiteroles (French, Belgium etc.), taste-wise I don’t feel the ones in Maitre Choux are outstanding. Appearance-wise they are well decorated and presented, Instagram attractive definitely. I somehow felt even the complimentary coconut cookies taste better than the profiteroles lol, quite pricy overall, so are teas and coffees. Perhaps visit once for the experience, not worth re-visiting I think.
V. W.
First time coming to Maitre Choux and definitely not the last time. Brilliant service, beautiful presentation and very relaxed atmosphere after a hard day's work. I particularly liked one fellow who gave me complimentary chouquette's and had the most wonderful of smiles. A definite visit for when you're around Soho!
R. A.
I recommend the salted caramel eclair👍🏼
A. G.
The staff was really kind and the eclairs are top notch. My favorite ones were the Paris-Brest eclair and Red Love - Raspberry Macaron
M. N.
Best éclairs ever! Amazing flavours, almost too beautiful to eat. A pure pleasure!
L. V. M.
The sweetest place. Everything so tasty. Inside is a bit small and they don't accept cash...
B. H.
Overpriced eclairs and was so disappointed after paying £5 each for a take away. Not sure what all the hypes about. I think everyone buys them just to Instagram them. Staff were very helpful though.
W. H.
I tried Vanilla peacon eclair takeaway only, it was fully sweet and tasty.
K. h.
Best Eclair in London ... mini haven of desserts wow
Y. A.
Prices are a bit high (not sure if it's worth spending £5 for a tiny éclair), but all served fresh!
E. N.
Great taste and quality. A bit expensive, around 15 for 2 éclairs and macchiato. Only price drop it down to 4.
H. W.
The eclairs look amazing and they taste fab! Can honestly say these are the best eclairs I have ever had (and I’ve tried a lot from different places in various countries). They had the perfect amount of sweetness and would definitely recommend!!
J. P.
Great choux with both food and cafe very aesthetically pleasing. They were also really helpful about my nut allergy and friendly too
L. F.
so good! what a fab gift i got. and supper delicious and beautiful. tnx.
N. H.
The best, creamiest, lightest chouquettes on earth.
H. R.
Looks fantastic! Just expensive for a fancy doughnut
A. A.
If you are a fan of eclairs then you have yo visit it , try their vanilla and pecan eclair so yummy
B. D.
Very nice treats, just a tad pricey, but worth it now and again.
G. D.
What a wonderful find, beautiful pastries and tasty coffee. Great staff too. Be aware payment is card only.
A. W.
Wonderful customer service, tasty eclairs and enchanting atmosphere! Recommended as a place for a date or afternoon tea with your girlfriends :) I visited this place on Friday morning and received an outstanding service from a lovely young girl with brown hair. It was something everyone should experience! Don't hesitate to pop in for a visit next time you're in Soho!!!
S. T.
The best eclairs ever. I usually buy them from here and eat at home, so haven’t experienced sitting in. Eclairs are very expensive - but delicious, and photo-worthy. TIP: Lots of options, the front counter doesn’t display all the flavour options they have so look at their window display outside for a wider range to choose from.
w. A.
That is sooooo miamyyyy 😍 thé best . That's the kind of the great cake that when you eat it you should close your eyes and listen and enjoy and savour and taste and feel the delice.
K. K.
It’s good, so good. Amazing flavours. Tasty, tasty, tasty.
A. F.
Gorgeous eclairs, in both taste and look. Coffee is average though.
J. L.
Maitre choux has always been my favourite place to go for a take away when we’re nearby. Last week, we’ve been visiting to the old location in South Kensington not knowing that Maitre choux moved to Soho. Maitre choux didn’t updated on their website as well. It would be much appreciated if Matre choux update their website asap due visitors from abroad. Soho is a great location nearby the places I often visit like Amorino and HipChips. My favorites are the paris-brest and the café pur arabica eclairs along with a nice cup of jasmin green tea.
N. G.
I didn't think a pastry shop that's so expensive there are no prices in the window could live up to expectations, but that's just what Maitre Choux did. Turns out you can taste the difference when there's a Michelin starred chef making your eclairs. At around £7 a pop, it's an occasional treat, but for that you will get a fresh, soft flavoursome eclair, ever so slightly chewy and a world away from the shop bought pastries I'm used to.
There are a range of flavours available, relatively traditional (chocolate, raspberry, vanilla etc.) but the focus here is on doing the classics well, not throwing flavours together to see what sticks. The flavours are subtle but unmistakable, best enjoyed with a cup of tea. Despite its slightly lurid colouring, the pistachio is delicious, as is the praline. The filled choux buns available inside are simpler, but just as delicious, including the salted caramel. As a final treat (and possible recompense for a £7 eclair...) you'll be served up a complimentary petite "choquette" if you choose to eat in, a tiny little choux bun flavoured with nothing more than a few rocks of sugar, but as pleasurable to eat as it is simple.
A. H. A.
The best in the world ***** very friendly staff, the food tastes great
L.
This was my second time trying the eclairs and their new range of choux pastries. The last time I had them was in their first shop in Kensington and I remember they were so delicious, although they were limited edition flavours. This time round, they didn't taste as good. The eclairs were a bit stale. It may be due to the fact that I got them in the evening. Service was good though. Not sure if I'll be coming back for more...
A. R.
Could have eaten 10! Some of the best eclairs I've ever had.
O. Q.
Fantastic service, but unfortunately these eclairs don’t match their price tag. Dry pastry and slightly above average fillings make these feel like a bit of a gimmick rather than a luxury.
D. R.
Bertaux needs some competition and the eclairs here are exquisite. You must try them. However, seat spacing is like the tube in rush hour and the lady who served me did so as if charm and politeness cost extra.
N.
Visit : purchased to take out
Excellent eclairs. I was recommended here by a London based friend whom i was talking about the poor choice of 'artisanal' type cakes (in London vs Tokyo) - or cakes with some effort put into them that are not gigantic sized - and i had a shortlist of 3 places. I chose here and these were pretty much as good as the various variety of similar type stores in Tokyo - and to knock the whinging comments on the head below - for such a place / location and quality the price is far more reasonable than Tokyo residents pay.
Would and have recommended to friends / visitors - i have no comment about sitting in the store however the staff member at the time was exceptionally friendly (10am opening visit)
It is also wonderful seeing a 'no cash' store - embrace cash free
Notes : Visited for take away / great value / good presentation, quality and taste
A. M.
It is ok but nothing special. I would eat here again, but wouldn't rush to go again anytime soon
C. C.
The storefront is a bit small, but beautiful. And the choux are to die for. The flavours do seem to vary a bit during different times or year, but each of the flavours I've had has been good. Definitely try the hazelnut and milk chocolate if it's there.
E. T.
Interesting and tasty eclairs, although rather pricey
N. A. R.
Excellent artisan pastry. Great range of different eclair, my personal favourite was the hazultnut caramel with a delicious crunchy topping. Other varieties include salter caramel and Tahitian vanilla. There is limited seating but they probably vide tea and coffee also.
M. C. A. H.
I had the chocolate and hazelnut eclair it was delicious the place is decorated nicely in pastel colors. My only complaint is that customer service could be better.
K. N.
We came in and there weren't any tables available so we decided to get our eclairs on the go - we left the cafe and then the staff actually ran outside to tell us that a table had freed up for us! Great service and atmosphere for catching up with friends. Eclairs were bit on the dry side though (sadly!).
J. L.
It’s very nice ! Choux is not too sweet.
7. A.
Excellent Eclairs! I have visited the South Kensington store a few times before so was pleasantly surprised to find another branch on Dean St - they haven't lost their touch :) Would definitely recommend.
S. N.
These are the best eclairs I have ever had, out of this world. I really love this place, they have the best eclairs, choux and chouquettes!!!! Yes, it is a bit pricey but it is worth it! I highly recommend this place! The service was nice and friendly :)
D. B. -.
Grat coffee, amazing eclairs nice staff.
F. A.
I came from faraway specially to try the addictive eclairs from Maitre Choux and it deserve it! I hoped there's more space in Soho branch to take rest and eat those delicious eclairs inside the shop. The cashier Sybell is so lovely. I wished to see the chief Joakem personally.
s. p.
Good dessert
B. a.
Nice and delicious but little expensive
A. E.
Exquisite pastries and service
H.
Amazing relaxing atmosphere and great people. One of the best coffee shops in Soho hands down too. Closes at midnight. Great bakery.
E. L.
Fresh products, crisp pastry, deep flavors nd not too heavy. I have tested éclairs of other top chefs (marcolini, lignac) and other fine pastries (éclair de génie, pâtisserie des rêves, etc) these are my favorites.
K. B.
I just visited this lovely cafe with my family.
S. O.
This has literally become my second home since I had my first bite. I love the food and I love the staff equally as much, they're so accommodating and genuine, yummy everything 😍 personally my favourite thing to do, is buy some chouquettes to take home (£3.20) and have with jam and hot chocolate before bed, ultimate comfort food
A. H.
Cute
T. C.
A new arrival but definitely the best desserts in soho! A must visit everytime now x
L. M.
Nice pastries but sadly so expensive. I know its Soho but £7 for a small eclair.
M. R. d. R.
Very nice eclairs and the complimentary choux was amazing.
Y. L.
Not bad~
H. M. A. B.
friendly staff and quite place to drink coffee
S. M.
Quite overpriced. Great staff and nice place overall though.
I'd recommend going only if you're willing to spend 5-6£ for slightly above average eclairs.
S. S.
Amazing place with mostly great staff. Just a question... why is there one of the staff (manager I believe) taking up 20% (4 seated sofa and table) of the stores seating area with what seems to be shopping bags and work binders, also not in the nice presentable uniform the other workers are in which seems strange for a manager...
T. T.
Amazing desserts, good tea and coffee. A bit busy but it is expected from Soho.
S. D.
Very amazing patisseries.
k. B.
Lovely tea cafe in Soho. Wide variety of tea options. Delicious tiny desserts with fruits and chocolates. Accepted payments only by card.
D. Z.
Would recommend raspberry flavour, it’s less sweet and sour.
A. K.
Service quite frankly can be improved but the pastries were fresh and delicious. Some of the best choux I’ve tasted.
M. F. S.
Amazing Place !!!! Great stuff and great work
H. H.
Very delicious eclairs, big amount of choice but for me they could be bigger for that price.
A. S.
Hazelnut and Milk chocolate eclair all the way!!
e. n.
Great experience, friendly staff, delicious pastry! Would highly recommend, especially the gold éclair... And their hot chocolate is to die for!
A. R.
Good (mostly cute),but not good enough to justify the price.
F. S.
Super friendly staff! Dominika was very helpful & made the best coffee! Would recommend.
J. C.
Everyone who like eat sweet desserts coming here.
S.
A few friends and I chose a variety of eclairs and choux and it was all fantastic! Will definitely be treating myself here again
C. B.
Very pricey but exquisite quality

Pricey but very tasteful. The Persian pistachio eclaire, my favourite, is delicious.

(Translated) A site with a lot of quality, it is true that it is not cheap at all, but the quality is paid, and here it deserves it. The perfection of the choux is surprising.

(Translated) Vui lòng nhưng có giá trị khác giá lớn hơn để lấy-đi từ chuyển-in. Highly recommend: Paris-brest, Blackberry Cheesecake Choux and Salted Butter Caramel Choux.
Delicious, but much cheaper price anywhere. Take-away cheaper eat-in about 1.5-2 VND / cake. Call Paris-brest, Blackberry Cheesecake Choux and Salted Butter Caramel.

Delicious but there is a big price difference so better take-away than eat-in. Highly recommend: Paris-brest, Blackberry Cheesecake Choux and Salted Butter Caramel Choux.
Ngon đấy mà giá không rẻ lắm đâu. Take-away rẻ hơn eat-in khoảng 1.5-2 đồng/bánh nhé. Nên gọi Paris-brest, Blackberry Cheesecake Choux và Salted Butter Caramel Choux nha.

(Translated) The design of the eclairs is SPECTACULAR but they are very expensive: 5 £ each. The detail is that in terms of flavor, for a Mexican, leaves much to be desired. Not because they are bad per se, but because in European pastries it seems not to be sweetened beyond the natural sweetness of the ingredients so they may seem tasteless to the Mexican palate. If you're not a fan of sweet things and you'll be easy, if I recommend them. If you're sweet like me, better look for another dessert.

(Translated) The cakes are beautiful and good. But they are a lot of expensive.
Of course, the presentation is unbeatable. Both the packaging and the corporate image ... are👌🏼

Los pasteles son preciosos y están buenos. Pero son una barbaridad de caros.
Eso si, la presentación es inmejorable. Tanto el packaging, como la imagen corporativa ... son👌🏼

(Translated) That's a lot for one single. It tastes great, but I think it's 2000 won per piece. It tastes just right, but if you think this is 10,000 won, you will be surprised at the price of the deep-fried soup.

(Translated) In front of the magnificent palette of colors we want to test everything. It is very beautiful, and quite good. Although the flavors offered are classic, we liked our pastries which are not too sweet and it is appreciated.

Devant la magnifique palette de couleurs on a envie de tout tester. C'est très beau, et plutôt bon. Bien que les saveurs proposées soit classiques, nous avons aimé nos pâtisseries qui ne sont pas trop sucrées et c'est appréciable.

(Translated) A showcase that makes you dream, cabbage aesthetically perfect, but does taste really follow? At the cost of these, this should be obvious. But a little disappointment, we do not say "wow" from the first to the last bite. The price / quality ratio is therefore to be reviewed. Tricks, too put forward for my taste.
(Original)

(Translated) Very nice store, beautiful sign.
Magnificent flash in the window but unfortunately not had the desired effect during the tasting.
Sorely lacking in taste. The raspberry and blackcurrant is bland. And the novelty for the princely wedding remains flat in the mouth.
I'm disappointed. I expected more.
Pity.

Dommage.
