Reviews of Necco Japanese Cafe Bar
O. L.
Very nice friendly staffs. Pleased with their service. Homemade cakes were all very nice. Matcha Swiss roll has white bean jam and whipped cream in the centre. I liked it a lot. Wall pictures of cats are really cute. Lovely place.
F. A.
Maybe the best sushi I ever had! The staff is extremely polite. Really traditional Japanese dishes.
Q. W.
Really fresh sashimi and nice range of starters. We ordered the miso aubergine and takoyaki and both were good. I also had the kaisen chirashi which was very fresh and delicious. Friendly staff and great experience overall
C. D. C.
Friendly staff, cozy homey atmosphere. Assortment of Japanese dishes, although they don’t serve ramen, you can swap it with udon or try their rice bowls.
Stress, exhausted from work? They’ve got Happy Hour.
S. N.
Ordered udon with shrimp tempura and unagi avocado sushi at this little cafe. The service was quick and had outdoor seating option. Food arrived in about 10 mins. The udon was chewy with simple, citrusy broth, wished the tempura came separately to maintain its crisp; but not a massive issue. The bite sized sushi made for a tasty, smokey appetizer.

My favourite Japanese in London! Amazing food, excellent service and a cute little cafe. Excellent
C. W.
Nice, cosy, friendly and delicious Japanese café.
K. D.
A genuine gem!
I loved this place. I've lived in Japan, and coming here with all the great menu options (including loads for vegans) and lovely friendly Japanese staff, was like a home from home.
100% recommend. There were four of us, and we al loved everything we ate!
L. P.
Great food! Had the karage chicken, the salmon croquettes and 2 sushi platters. All delicious and the service is just amazing, super friendly, attentative staff. Definitely felt like the places we ate in Japan.
A. D.
So nice to find a japanese cafe with vegan food AND pudding. Really nice attentive staff and nice food. And quite good value, these things (sushi, pot of tea, dessert, mineral water) came to £12. There was also an £8 meal deal there with vegan options too
P. B.
This is such a cute cafe with really friendly staff. My friend and I had their dessert - the green tea sponge cake and the icy green tea roll. They were both really good!
V.
Had the lunch deal, £9.50 with a small teacup of yuzu tea which was delicious, wish it was in a bigger cup! The food was good and the staff were friendly.

Truly a hidden gem. Necco was one of the most wonderful cafés ive ever visited. The food was so well priced, you honestly get more than you pay for. The owner/waitresses were so welcoming and the general atmosphere of Necco was so homely.
We ordered a Takoyaki and Salmon sashimi as starters, both were fresh and beautifully presented.
We also ordered a salmon teriyaki and limited edition ramen which both exceeded expectations.
The dessert selection was stunning!! It was so hard to choose because they were so cute. Matcha Lovers, you will love this place. They even dusted the strawberries!
To top it off we were given free refills for our tea (in a cute teapot) and the owner checked on us multiple times, you can tell they truly care about their work and food they are producing.
Will definitely be coming again. Thank you Necco!!!
M. F.
Delicious food and drinks. Excellence service too! Nami is always looking attentive towards her customers. I went with friends and we tried Japanese sake 👌 Would recommend!
K. A.
The Necco café has become a sanctuary in which we always return to relax and rejuvenate ourselves in its warm and cozy atmosphere. The staff are so attentive and put so much care into the food, their customers and their service which goes above and beyond any restaurant or café I have visited in the past.
Both variations of the noodle (soba and udon) were coupled with prawn tempura, inari and wakami, which was both light and full of flavour! The sides on the menu, complement the main dish, and leave you feeling fulfilled and happy!
The cakes!! The cakes are amazing!! And the matcha latte!! So creamy and rich in texture! With a variety of flavours (Matcha is a classic!) And presented beautifully with so much thought! Necco is truly a hidden gem!

Had lunch there on a Saturday. I thought that it was rather expensive, considering both the quality and the quantity of the food. The food itself was ok, but nothing special. The nigiri tasted homemade, and not in a good way. It was sloppily put together and the rice wasn't well seasoned. The seaweed salad was small and lacked seasoning as well. I also think that, considering how expensive it is, it was weird to charge 50p extra for the gluten free soya sauce.
Service was friendly though.

本格的な和食屋さん。自家製で美味しい!デザートもちょうどいい甘さでとても美味しい。抹茶ラッテもおすすめ! I keep coming back! Authentic Japanese meals. The miso mackerel menu was just £9. Really tasty. The tofu steak is also very good. The vinaigrette of the pickled cucumber and the sesame oil taste of the spinach are very good as well. The accompanying veggies change, depending on the day. The soba with ebi tempura is also nice. The pumpkin cheese cake is really good, with natural sweetness 😋(unlike the super-sweet UK cake standards 🤢) I've also tried a black sesame brownie that tasted very mild and good as well and the matcha mousse cake. The matcha latte with soy milk tastes very good as well, with a subtle sweet taste (not sure if it has sugar, or if it comes from the soy milk). They have a nice selection of other drinks, like the gobo tea, houji cha, or the cold pomegranate juice.
N. A.
Oh... food is nothing special but staff is making the atmosphere. We did enjoy our lunch there.
M. R.
The place is small but cozy, the staff is very attentive and friendly. Went there for lunch and order the fried chicken lunch menu and was very well presented and it was the perfect portion size for lunch.
You can also order japanese drinks like ramune soda!
I will definitely visit this place again :)
K. V.
Great service, great food!
D. C.
This is such a lovely little cafe and restaurant! The staff are wonderfully attentive and accommodating, and the food is tasty and warming on a chilly winter's evening. We've celebrated a few friends' birthdays here, and will keep coming back.
M. K.
The food was very fresh and tasty! Great service
L.
So worth it. They have all day cocktails on Saturday!!! Great after a workout. The ladies at the shop are so lovely!!!
S. J.
Hearty donburi, fresh sushi, friendly and attentive service. Just what we were looking for. Their variation on a Mai Tai with banana, ginger and spice was a surprise hit.
C. S.
A real hidden gem. Fantastic independent cute Japanese cafe with lovely affordable food and magnificent desserts including lots of Matcha delights. Highly recommended.
N. G.
Food is always superb here, sake choice is excellent. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Did I mention the food is superb? Always a joy coming here and will again!!
P. C.
Absolutely adorable Japanese cafe with a cat theme (the chopstick rests are to die for). The staff are incredible; constantly making sure the food is ok and you have enough drinks. The food was utterly delicious; they serve a range of sushi, hot foods (udon / soba, donburi, katsu curry, etc), and cakes. You can get hot drinks and alcoholic drinks. We ordered a huge variety of things and everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. Will definitely be returning.
Very curious about their afternoon tea special!
K. L.
I came here for lunch twice as I had training nearby. Both times, the staff seemed super friendly and are always smiling. The food is delicious homemade authentic Japanese style. Curry is plentiful and yummy with choice of white or brown rice and salad on the side. 10/10 would come here for lunch everyday if I worked in the area.
H.
Wonderful authentic Japanese food with friendly staff and cosy environment. Reasonably priced.
A. C.
They take orders for birthday cakes and they're amazing! We had a red velvet cake and the caramel cream on top was sooo tasty!
J. E.
A very cute and authentic place. Not necessarily the place you'd go if all you want is sushi (although sushi is fine), but really good for a greater variety of Japanese cuisine and deserts My only complaint is that they dropped the kimchi tofu, which was one of our favourites.
N. M.
This is an absolutely lovely place to experience if you're looking for an authentic Japanese meal, staff that lighten your heart or even just a nice homely place to be for a little while.
M. Y.
Friendly staff, very atttentive. Quick service. Authetic japanese feel. Ordered an udon noodles dish. Broth (for me) was not as hot in temperature as i would have liked it but came straight away but delicious nonetheless. Relatively affordable food. Lovely to have a visual of the chef preparing the fish like in a standard japanese restaurant. Quiet in the afternoon. Will visit again for evening experience.
M. N.
Staff were lovely but food was completely tasteless. Also found it very odd that it came with lettuce.
C. C.
Very friendly staff and the tea/ desserts are tasty.
H. L.
Great soft-shell crab. They gave me a bowl of rice on the house to go with it.
n. k.
Authentic Japanese food with great customer service for a reasonable price..
Worth visiting...... Last but not least food is yummy and tasty......
M. L.
Cute little cafe with friendly, attentive staff. Nestled in Exmouth market this place is a must try. Went with a group and we ordered their prawn tempura, the Karaage Crispy Chicken(so tasty and juicy!), soba noodles, some sushi rolls and of course Japanese Sake.
L. L. A.
Home cook japanese meal.... with excellent service. Reasonable prices. I like my braised mackerel with miso. Goes well with white rice 😀
O. R.
Good quality for the cost. But the ice cream was a rip off
A. W.
Delicious
A. C.
My girlfriend and I spent a while looking for authentic Japanese restaurants in London's centre. We found it. This place is great; staff are amazingly friendly and the food is simple and delicious. It the closest thing London has to an Osaka cafe. Must try!
E. C.
Lovely little place with a cosy and friendly vibe, one of my go-to places in the area. There's a good variety of choice on the menu, and everything is really tasty! They have so many desserts I want to go back and try, last time the matcha tiramisu caught my eye and it was great.
E.
Savory food is just average but dessert is good
J. C.
Visited here as a couple on a Friday evening recently and it was legitimately one of the best dining experiences I've had. Simple, delicious and traditionally Japanese food with flawless service at incredibly low prices. I had a chicken and rice dish that I unfortunately can't remember the name of and my partner had a chicken noodle soup. Both were delicious. We also shared a portion of sushi which was incredible - I'm normally incredibly adverse to fish, especially raw fish, but this was freshly prepared in front of us and tasted absolutely delicious. The waiters and waitresses were lovely, friendly and polite and seemed genuinely thrilled that we'd had such a nice time. For the sushi, two main courses, two beers and a side of edamame beans we paid £27 in total which is nothing short of amazing. I've paid ten times that for meals and been nowhere near half as pleased or impressed. If you like authentic Japanese food in a lovely traditional setting, with great service, then be sure to visit this place. You won't be disappointed.
J. A.
Good Japanese home made cute food and cakes
S. L.
Ok taste, not so great price for something super basic. Not a single vegetable in there, just plain noodles in broth and prawns
D. L.
Very authentic Japanese food.
A. T.
Amazing!
I ordered a special cake for my girlfriend birthday. It was fantastic, better than what I asked.
We had lunch there, the katsu curry was crispy and tangy, the sushi was fresh, delicious creamy sashimi.
I love Necco Japanese Cafe Bar, and Nami is a great host!
S. D.
Green tea chiffon cake is awesome xxx
S.
The staff is amazing and gives service beyond what is expected, nami and Keiko were the best waiter I've been served by, very friendly and attentive. Funny and entertaining they hosted us very well resulting us in staying 5 hours to enjoy the atmosphere. The food portion is super generous and recommend anyone by the area to give this place a try as it is amazing!!!! 😁
J. B.
Popped in on a Friday evening. There were only a couple of tables available but we were seated immediately. We’d never had Japanese food before (aside from sushi) so decided to choose a few dishes from their “tapas” selection. The food was awesome and the staff were really helpful and friendly. Thoroughly recommended.
L. A.
This is a cosy and friendly Japanese restaurant. The staff are very welcoming, helpful and attentive. The food is delicious and freshly made on the day. The menu has a variety of Japanese dishes and beverages that you can choose from.
All in all, Necco Caffe is a lovely and must-visit restaurant to go to for a Japanese cuisine.🍱🍙🍛🍥🍡🇯🇵
M. I.
Came here for a friends birthday and loved it. It’s kinda specialist but open to all. You will get the kawaii groups, the cosplayers and it makes it more interesting.
Tables and seating are large and comfortable.
Food is great too. Nice selection, fresh and big portions. Surprised me how much is given with the price. Might have been a friends discount ;)
Deserts are really tasty too. Worth popping in just for that.
Good options for vegetarians. I think some vegan options as well.
V. N.
This is our go-to place whenever we crave some Japanese dessert. We tried all the cakes here and none of them was less than amazing.
Today we had a particular pleasant experience. The waitor, whose name is Mike, deserves a 5-star for service. He's super friendly and extra helpful. We had a nice chat with him as well. Thank you Mike, and the two owner ladies whose name I haven't been able to ask.
N. S.
Really nice place with authentic mom-and-dad cafe atmosphere, just like in the middle of Japan. Not fancy, but prices are democratic and the food is simply delicious. They also serve hot (as well as cold) sake.
F. S.
Great food, great people :)
R. R.
I popped in here for lunch on a whim one day having no idea what to expect but the menu looked reasonable for a lunchtime bite. The place is cosy, not super fancy but clean and spacious. I ordered the chicken katsu which was delicious and for a busget it is a great price (think £7 ish?!). The staff were friendly and helpful, all in all a good experience and would pop in again!
M. K.
This place is absolutely adorable! We chanced upon it at 11pm and insisted on going in because it was so prettily decorated for Valentines Day! The service staff were very attentive and made very good recommendations, all of which we took and enjoyed tremendously. I highly recommend the gobocha tea - very interesting flavours with loads of supposed health benefits!
S. Z.
Great little local Japanese cafe. Really friendly staff, very welcoming. Food is pretty good, looking forward to when their full menu is back.
p.
Fab service and dessert. Good prices too!
R. S.
This is a magical little Japanese café that serves delectable Japanese dishes with real style and charm and modestly priced. As a vegetarian it is so nice that it offers such a wide variety of vegan and vegetarian options. A very special place and a great advertisement for Japanese culture.
A. P.
Love this place! Cute japanese 'tapas' style cafe/restaurant with a really decent drinks menu (and £2.50 kirin between 6-7pm!) And yummy green tea cakes. Food is really good quality and great tasting..and pretty cheap! Two of us went, shared quite a few tapas and a slice of cake as well as 2 beers each for £50 all up! Great location in exmouth market too! Definitely recommend for a cheaper eat along this busy strip.
R. A.
Every time I visit this place it gives me a warm feeling. Very homely and unpretentious. Food is simple, tasty and filling. Staff are wonderful - always smiling, friendly and gracious. Also, the desserts are fab - save some room!
Y. G.
Simply Wow!!!! Great food, great location. Love the staff, very friendly and approachable and so jovial
L. I.
A super cute Japanese cafe- very girly! and would definitely capture the hearts of Japanese fans. Their cakes are extraordinary and they have a wide selections of Japanese drinks you won't find in many places. The thing I like most about this place is their exquisite dishes, cups/mugs etc. Very Japanese. On the down side, I actually find their seats very uncomfortable. Either the chairs are too low or the table is too high, it's quite unusual. The service, portions and price are all average.
J. G.
The staff is always lovely, the déco is really nice and a lot cat themed (but in a discreet way so that non cat lovers don't particularly notice and cat lovers love it) and of course the food is delicious and well priced and big portions. I frequently come here 😊
U.
Don’t let the cute decor fool you, this place serves some damn good casual Japanese food. Every dished I’ve tried: Miso Katsu Don, Green Tea Soufflé, Deluxe Tofu and Marinated Kale were excellent. Expect great flavors for a very reasonable price! Love this cute intimate cafe vibe!
A.
I absolutely love the food and the almost 60 mins journey doesn't phase me at all. They staff are delightful, always so polite, cheerful, helpful. I can't say enough positive things about Necco. As my boyfriend works nearby, I sometimes get him to bring me one of the delicious matcha deserts. I've tried matcha lattes elsewhere and none come close to Necco's. Special mention for the pink restroom! 😋
B. S.
I'm a big fan of Japanese food which my current home town if Lincoln is sorely short of so given the chance when traveling it's often my pick. Necco really stands out though by offering Japanese food with some genuine character, not just the same exact choices on the menu, instead offering interesting variations. It's a restaurant with some vision behind it, a friendly caring vision that made my meal there a great experience.
S. T.
Great stuff. Friendly. Almost tried the entire pudding menu. Thanks necco. Meow

Amazing place. Quietly eccentric, wide range of food (not just sushi), loads of imported Japanese booze and sweets. Also the people who work here are cool. Highly recommended.
H. B.
Great place to have a nice lunch
M. K.
One of my fav places in Exmouth Market. The menu is small but concise and most importantly - delicious!!! Food is authentic and yummy and desserts are homemade goodness! Would genuinely recommend!
N.
Recently discovered this little place. Its adorable, cozy and very welcoming. The staff are very friendly and make you feel at place. So far I have tried the Matcha-Latte and it is to die for! Deffo looking forward to trying some more things off the menu! 10/10 would reccomend !
M. T.
The food here was so nice and the staff were so kind and engaging it really was a lovely experience. Obe of the only Japanese cake/sweet foods café ive ever been to. Its a bit of a walk from the station but worth the walk if you like Japanese foods.
K. C.
Grabbed sushi to go from here and it was fresh and lovely.
J. S.
Legit food, awesome service. All types of vegan/veg. Local favourite
M. I.
My girlfriend and I enjoyed very much alfresco dining in this lovely cafe with friendly staff. I recommend chicken teriyaki, ton katsu pork cutlet and vegeterian dumplings, and all that splash down with Gokai Nama Sake or pomengrate coctail. it was really good :-)
A. A.
One of the best Japanese places in London. You really have to try it out! Also don't forget to try some matcha ice cream.... It's the best and creamiest I've ever had and they make it inhouse too! Totally recommend.
J. W.
Was moved to write this by reading a couple of negative reviews that must have been written by people who tried to order a pizza and got annoyed they didnt have any.
This place is a little gem. Japanese restaurants in London seem to fit into two categories: soulless sushi joints for fast lunches and serious wood panelled izakayas where business suits gather to drink sake to the sound of fawning waitresses. Necco is something else: an authentic modern Japanese cafe/restaurant with a lot of personality, great attention to detail, attentive service and good food. On my last visit we had edmame, sushi, takoyaki (octopus balls), okonomiyaki, seaweed salad. We weren't planning to have dessert but the once the owner told us that she hires her own Japanese patissier to make desserts (that she then distributes to exclusive joints all over London at much higher prices) we decided to give them a go, and what a good choice that was. The green tea tiramisu and green tea chocolate tart were honestly amongst the best desserts I can remember (and a total gourmet steal at 3 odd quid)... not too sweet, full of flavour and personality, just like this place. I even - for the first time ever - ordered extra desserts to take home, they were that good. Asakusa in camden is much more fashionable than this place (mostly for the fawning waitresses) , but Necco gets my vote every time: it just looks more like a day cafe with brighter coloured decor, which is why in my opinion you can usually get a table without booking in the evenings as it doesn't have pretensions to be a "serious restaurant", rather it is a relaxed cafe with outstanding food. But if I turn up next tine and they say I should have reserved I swear I'm never writing another Google review again.
C. H.
The food was quite nice there. Their crisp chicken set course was nice. It is almost gluten free apart from soya sauce they used for marinated the chicken.
j. p.
Nice food and fairest price in town. I usually order a rice don with sashimi for lunch, which only cost about 12 pounds. In other places like Eat tokyo it my cost around 20.
C. H.
As a group, Pilates Body Awareness, we have already had a couple of superb Christmas socials here.
The food was fresh, delicious and on time. As teacher/director of these matwork classes, I get the feeling people are keen to return yet again.
Our classes are very close, in the Urdang Academy (Old Finsbury Town Hall) and Urdang 2 . We've also enjoyed late lunches here after our Pilates days.....always the same high standards, delicious food, exquisite presentation and gracious hosting. Excellent.
M. O.
Good authentic Japanese food. Sashimi was good sided cuts, both the karaage and ton-katsu was well made with good flavours. Yaki-onigiri was good too. Good value for money.
C. T.
Lovely little Japanese restaurant/cafe with a great atmosphere and wonderful staff. Absolutely recommend their chicken katsu/karaage curry! One of the few affordable restaurants in the area open late at night also.
W. W.
Delicious food and lovely staff with a great selection, strange wall art though
s. c.
My enduring and lengthy search for a great Pork Katsu curry is complete. This place is brilliant and I need to come back soon to try more off the menu. Also, Pocari Sweat!!
B. E.
A bit pricey for small portions, but very high quality food.
A. C.
Made us a ginger roll by mistake (ew!) but apart from that very good.
J. D.
I love this place, the staff are lovely and the food reasonably priced and absolutely delicious. I rate their sushi and the fried chicken is amazing.
K. M.
Amazing food, very authentic and affordable. Homely atmosphere. A lovely, hidden gem. Must-go for Japan lovers!
E. B.
Small, independent, and very nice place where you can find good dishes, good tea selection and many options (veg/halal/etc). Lovely place for lunch, dinner, or just an afternoon tea. Nice staff.
D. C.
Good service and nice people, but I wasn't impressed by the food. It's ok if you're around and you really want Japanese, otherwise just go somewhere else.
J. M.
Such an amazing place, so cute, super-friendly staff. The food is really tasty, excellently presented, unpretentious and good value. Always come back whenever I'm in London
R. F.

Lovely real Japenese food and friendly atmosphere! Big portions for good price too. Momo is a great cook!! :)
L. H.
They serve amazing greentea cake, but their dessert only when it is fresh, i believe some of them stayed in the display fridge for weeks
S. L.
The food was great, prices are decent and the atmosphere peaceful. 10/10 will come back to explore the menu a bit more.
E. C.

The main menu is ok, but definitely nothing special. However cakes, sweets and teas are always worth coming for!
K. K.
great selection of food and good value, and good for veg options which is rare for a Japanese restaurant
S. M. G.
Food is really good. Service is OK. It showed up as child friendly but it really wasn't. They also don't have any high chairs.
K. M.
A Japanese cafe with delicious Japanese desserts, matcha desserts in particular. I love their matcha mille-feuille and mont blanc cake 😍 The only downside is that location isn't convenient to go 😂

I like the place were is located this restaurant. You have many options to choose on the menu, you can choose dishes from the menu or order a pack were includes an entree, main dish and a drink. I will recommend order dishes from the menu rather than the pack it was not enough for me. The staff were kind.
