Reviews of St David Coffee House
D. 1.
Fantastic coffee shop and the food is amazing. The biggest selling point is the gorgeous log fire. The coffee is very good quality and obviously a local favourite. Dog friendly. Only negative for me was that there were no herbal teas, even decaf tea and coffee have caffeine-free so difficult for those who can’t drink any caffeine. Piccalilli toastie was divine!

I've only read great things for this place and I was looking forward to visit. Great location, next to the station and a lovely and cosy atmosfere, even though it is lacking a personal touch. Breakfast was nice but the portions are quite small and to my opinion overprised. Coffee was good though, so I would give this place the benefit of doubt and pay another visit, maybe just for coffee and pastries.
S. A.
Lovely staff. Lovely coffee. Lovely food. All round great spot. Very surprisngly had some pastries and loaves left at 14.50 on a Wednesday and gave them to us for free; amazing service!
J. L.
About the coffee: it's rather good, probably the best in the area. They also offer good breakfast options. The place itself is a tad small but super cosy, particularly in winter time. What's the catch? Maybe its own success, it easily gets very crowded and then the quality of the service plummets. If you not only care about the coffee but the surrounding experience as well, it'd be better to avoid the super busy times
J. H.
Lovely little cafe, had a really nice flat white here and a nice brunch for 6.50 of poached egg on really nice granary bread with avocado and crispy bacon. The bacon could have been a bit more flavourful but that's probably because I'm used to the unhealthy smoked kind. It all smelled amazing though. There was also good music and cool illustrations featured throughout the place. Recommend when you're in the area or as a quick pit stop on the way to the Horniman museum.
R. G.
Consistently friendly service along with excellent coffee and delicious, fresh food. I tend to visit here whenever I come to Forest Hill and recommend it to people whenever I know they're in the area.
A. S.
First came across this little place when moved to the area a couple months back.
Lived in Brockley for 5 years prior, so was very familiar with Browns of Brockley. Can say this place is just as good!
M. c.
My go to coffee everyday. Great coffee, nice place, friendly staff and the sandwiches option are really good!
W. B.
Effortlessly stylish, charming staff, great coffee. Often run out of tasty pastries so go early to avoid disappointment and unlike their bigger brother in Brockley don't have any bagels.
Only complaint is a lack of loyalty card!
B. G.
One of London's great coffee shops, I used to visit when they were one of the early users of Square Mile coffee. I'd not been for a few years but started visiting again as a walking stop during lockdown. Still great coffee, lovely little selection of pastries and a sourdough loaf. Squaremile to take home and a few cold drinks. The staff are lovely, really friendly and always ready for a coffee geek chat. Thank you St David you make the world a better place.
O. F.
The best croissants in London as far as I'm concerned.
S. C.
The kind of place that makes going for a coffee feel like a spiritual journey. The pastries are divine - just what butter was made for.
J. M.
Best coffee for over a square mile, best brunch this side of Brooklyn, cakes baked with love, some of the best staff in town and the owner... bazinga!! St D's4life !
M. c.
No Decaf!
This place is really cool. The coffee, decor, atmosphere is all great, the staff are friendly and the food is delicious. All exactly what you want from a local coffee shop. However, they don't serve any decaf! For someone who's given up caffeine, this means a visit is not really an option. It's 2020... Please extend your menu :)
B. P.
Dog friendly coffee shop. Very friendly staff. The food was great 👍
C. K.
Stopped by for a coffee. Excellent flat white... One of the best I have had in London. Worth a visit!
W. T.
They’ve nailed it. Superb coffee beans from Square Mile lovingly fashioned into outstanding cappuccini etc. I come here every week. Great staff, correct bacon sandwiches and a chilled atmosphere with students and random creative types beavering away. Only two gripes: no decaf coffee and it needs to open on Mondays - even if just for the morning.
E. B.
The best coffee shop in Forest Hill. Fantastic coffee (other hot beverages are available too) and a great independent local business. If you value either of these things, go!
C. G.
Love their coffee so much. Great pastries too. Can't wait until they are serving breakfasts again
T. B. D.
The BEST coffee in South East London and delicious cooked food! I LOVE this place dearly and it’s always a treat going there. The staff are always lovely and friendly too and make us feel welcome even when we bring our dog and our toddler! Lots of love to you guys xx
L. T.
Cozy little coffee shop, probably the best in the area.
Espresso quite good, mostly balanced flavors. Unfortunately not that impressed with the batch brew even though I'm really happy they started serving it as it's a real quick fix. Might need to adjust the brew ratio / coarsen up the grind as usually the brew is more on the bitter side.
Food lovely and they even do dinner nights with guest chefs! Definitely something to book more often!
One thing I would see improving is the ventilation system - they do great cooked breakfast but insufficient ventilation in the winter means that whenever you pop in for a take away coffee you leave smelling of fried bacon. Not great, especially if you're vegetarian :/
Tends to get busy over the weekends but worth the wait if you're into serious coffee :)
K. H.
Hands down the best place for coffee in all of London. I now am very hesitant to have coffee anywhere else as I am sure it won’t measure up to this place. We go here as often as we can and take our dog and toddler with us. Always welcoming, always prompt service and delicious food! I can’t recommend it enough.
F. M. N.
Place looks nice, staff is happy and prepare exceptional cofee. Customers are quiet and contribute to a relaxing atmosphere. It seems they take care of the decoration as well and I think they included otom elements o the ornaments.
Food seems to be nice and freshly made ...I,ve just tryed the banana cake and it was delicious.
Only problem is that in Spain we are use to pay very little for cofee/breakfast... Most of the places will charge you 1,20€ for a cofee, 1€ for a croisaint and have breakfast deals for 2,50€...so you van find a lot of professional s with not specially high wages enjoying the most important meal of the day in company.
I understand though, the business model of cafe-places in London is different, based on delivering a higher quality service for a higher price...i do prefer a more democratic pricing policy so this point is the only thing that separates a lot of cafes from perfection.
C. D.
Great coffee but the croissant was most certainly a left over from the day before
J. B.
Had a cracking coffee here yesterday. Only takeaway as we didn't have time to hang about but the interiors looked awesome. Would definitely come back to try the food too, I saw a waiter bringing some eggs & avocado out which looked very tempting. Winner!
S. H. L.
Excellent for a discerning coffee and cake. My filter was made with an Aeropress which is always a bonus. Nice laid back vibe and knowledgeable staff. Simple but tasty breakfast/lunches, slightly small portions. Inviting selection of craft beer and wine.
H. H.
Indoor dining is back and it's such a nice cafe
J. W.
My favourite coffee shop in Forest Hill. Great music, awesome fresh coffee. The food is great and fresh too, and I believe both organic and locally sourced. Chilled vibe from staff and art for sale on the wall. Plus enamel plates what more could you ask for!
o. x.
Immense coffee, just had a really top notch flat white there. Plus their bacon and avocado sandwich is utterly incredible. Really friendly chatty baristas and a great chilled out vibe. Very happy I found this place. Blows a lot of other coffee shops clean out of the water.
E. P.
I love coffee shops and the wood interior lends itself well to the feeling of hot coffee on a rainy day. Coffee shops are the rage at the moment and this is well up there if you want a hide away as well as great coffee. The food is wholesome and in a breakfast style ranging from bacon sandwiches to pretty quiches. Highly recommend.
S. W.
Best coffee in Forest Hill!
I'm a big coffee drinker and St David's is a worthy stop on London's coffee scene. The choose top quality beans and know how to cook the milk perfectly. The selection of homemade cakes and sausage rolls etc are excellent and the ambiance is just right. Only downside is the size - it's very small so getting a seat can be tough at peak times, but then you benefit from that if you're one of the ones sitting as it keeps the place from getting too crowded.
K. K.
The food was good, coffee made professionally by well trained baristas. Only problem with this café is billows of smoke, no proper ventilation. Recently they added downstairs space which is better arranged and has more fresh air.
M. D.
Amazing breakfasts! Was hard to decide, which one to go for so I'm definitely coming back to try more :D Coffee is also great. Jist perfect
L. A.
Great coffee and pastries. Super friendly service. Neighbourhood vibe.
S. D.
Extremely cool little coffee shop - classic arty decor, from an exhibition of prints for sale to vintage typewriters, magazines to read everywhere and cosy armchair seating. Very good flat white, but, more importantly, completely the kind of place I'd love as my local.
E. S.
Great coffee (Square Mile), expert baristas. Innovative simple dishes, think smashed avo on sourdough with dhakka. Craft beers. Great vibe, good for laptop use too. Not recommended for children.
C. M.
Very small and cosey, with foggy windows to keep out the hustle and bustle of the streets which gives the over all experience quite a reclusive feel. We ordered a pasty but half way through found blue plastic inside it! At first we thought it was part of a blue culinary plaster which turned my stomach completely - but they explained it was plastic sheeting probanly from an external vendor. Bacon sandwhiches looked very nice, as did their bigger plates which are made on site. Everyone had clean plates and looked thoroughly full and pleased, we left quite hungry.
K. H.
Amazing coffee, great cakes and walking into this coffee shop is like going into another world it's so beautiful with the plants everywhere
X. W.
Staff are friendly, the cafe is unique and interesting, there are books to read, a record player, and the coffee is ridiculously good. Flat white is awesome but lattes are also good. Highly recommended.
S. C.
Shabby chic cafe. Good food. Cramped uncomfortable chairs. Don't ask for a receipt if you pay contactless, they have to reconfigure their entire IT setup.
G. L.
I love this little gem, it's one of my favourite coffee shops in the area. Good coffee and pastries, but most importantly the staff all are delightful.
P. W.
Superb coffee & the sourdough bread they use is lovely. I resent the fact they charge extra for soy. Also the bacon was a little too cremated for my liking
L.
Lovely little cafe - can't wait to visit again.
A. B.
Fab breakfast, huge portions, shame there is no decaf options on the coffee as bet they would make it well. Loses a star for quite loud music that did not seem to fit the feel of the cafe.
O. M.
Fab place for coffee. Worth a stop if it in the area. Relaxed atmosphere, huge sash windows, perfect for watching world go by. Serve red brick and do it well. Also do various foodie things including pastries.
c. b.
Nice coffee and nice breakfast/quick lunch in a small but cozy art coffee shop. Recently they started serving also local craft beers Thursday and Friday evenings - music night on Friday evenings.
D. H.
Wonderful little coffee shop. Enjoyed a great bowl of granola with fruit and one of the best cappuccinos. A little gem.
S. A.
Decent coffee, if expensive. However, they closed early, after letting me buy a coffee and sit down with some work only half an hour earlier, because apparently there was "no point in them staying open". Thanks.
M. A.
Place a bit cramped, though did enjoy the food (I now get the fuss about avocado on toast). Very smooth cappuccino, real nice coffee
P. W.
A unique atmosphere. Very small, almost intimate. Quality of both the food and coffee was very good. Demand for seats exceeds supply.
J. D.
We really miss your cafe, will you open soon? I for one enjoyed your take on Aussie coffee, not to mention your food!
P. M.
Popular, cosy little cafe. There must be six or seven coffee shops within walking distance for me; this is one of two I visit regularly. Americano is one of the best around. Good food too.
J. W.
Lovely staff, great food (whether breakfast, brunch or lunch), incredible Capuccino. Fantastic atmosphere, very cosy. My favourite place in London!
R. M.
I really love this local coffee shop. Great coffees, cakes and lunches - I particularly enjoy the sandwiches, all surrounded with retro 70's decor while being serenaded by the LPs playing on the record player, and they have free WiFi
p.
So lovely and cosy cafe and coffee and food are so nice. all staff are very kind. It become one of my favourite places in London.
J. 8.
The best breakfast in Forest Hill and great coffee too. Highly recommended!
P.
This is a great place, lovely food and coffee and very friendly owner and staff. Also dog friendly. A great alternative to chain coffee houses.
G. G.
Nice coffee and food as often commented on. But very humid and poorly ventilated, plus not as clean and well-prepared as it might be.
J. P.
Really love the atmosphere of this coffee shop. They're a bit unpredictable with the service though and the opening hours are inconsistent. Ring beforehand!
P. J. P.
Great coffee and nice atmosphere. Objectively expensive, but normal for the area.
S. G.
small and lovely coffee house, very good coffees
C. R.
Definitely the best coffee in this neck of the woods 👌🏻☕️🐾🌞
M. “. T.
Cute and cosy cafe with reasonably priced loose leaf tea, coffee and brunch style snacks. One pot of tea is enough for two or three cups.
L. R.
I really enjoy the interior and the coffee is good, but it does sometimes feel a little cramped during busy periods
B. F.
Excellent fresh coffee & cake. Smart establishment with well appointed seating inside and out.
D. T.
Excellent food and hospitality.
P. L.
If you are into your coffee. You won't be disappointed here. The coffee is great the roastery is square mile.
A.
Best coffee in Forest Hill. Simple but consistently good food offering.
H. M.
Great local coffee shop. One of the best places in South London. For sure, the best in Forest Hill
C. H.
Love the decor. 80s kitsch action figure art! Coffee and food top notch. And the basement super cosy.
J. M.
Beastie boys on a Thursday at 12pm in this place doesn't seem like the best thing to listen to. Coffee just average and overpriced
A. D.
Sweet and friendly little coffee shop, with great coffee and delicious food, like popping in to catch up with friends or just for a little sitting and daydreaming.
S. H.
Tucked a little out of the way, this is a cosy, friendly little place that cares about its coffee and food. Easily filled at busy times but always worth checking.
S. H.
It's okay, better than some but not as good as it was a couple of so years ago, often the case. Staff not as attentive as they were or as good.
Sadly, I won't be too g back.
E. J.
Top staff, great coffee definitely try.
R. W.
A great coffee place serving excellent coffee with a good range of cakes and other snacks.
