Reviews of SUNDAY cafe & restaurant

Favorite neighborhood joint. Friendly staff but most of all the food is AMAZING. The pancakes, British breakfast and courgette fritters are a must. You can get half portions which are sometimes enough. Coffee is great.

Coffee wasn’t good, as a barista myself I was shocked when I was served extremely hot, no texture burnt taste coffee and I had to send it back. Food was really good. I would come only
For foot not for coffee. I recommend training on coffee more.

You can tell this place is popular there was barely any time a seat was empty. The cafe is small but fantastic, the staff were incredibly friendly and had a lovely vibe to the place we visited pre game for the NFL. You can't reserve a table at weekends but it was worth queuing we got lucky and were seated within 5 mins. I had brioche French toast which was amazing it cos with berries, banana, creme frieche and salted caramel sauce. My husband had the potato and chorizo hash special which was also incredible. Coffee is also very smooth and delicious will be sure to visit again when London keep up the great work x

Favourite brunch spot in London and so easily to say that. Living here for nearly 10 years and having visited more than 500 places in the city, it is really definitely the best place for a real brunch. The Islington branch is the original one, super cosy, in a posh and friendly neighbourhood and their menu is fantastic. Highly recommend the french toast, divine, and the avocado toast. They simply have the best ingredients, support local businesses and have passionate hands to prepare everything for you. Go now! P.S.: they have a secret garden on the back.

We went on a Sunday and did get caught in a hefty queue, but the weather was nice and everyone in the queue was in a good mood. Someone near me said that if the queue reaches to the corner, you'll be waiting over an hour. The waiter said if you come on a weekday or first thing on the weekend, you can avoid the queue.
We ordered 6 plates between 3 people and everything was delicious! The pancakes were the best I've ever had. I honestly thought nothing could be good enough to make the queue reasonable, but now I understand the queue.
Staff were lovely and helpful even though they must have been incredibly busy.
I've already planned my next visit.

Best Brunch you will have in London.
This is HALF a French Toast. Just £4!!!
Thank you for the amazing service!
M. H.
A bit of a long queue on the weekend due to limited capacity, and service might be a bit slow. But the food is great, cheap and massive portions:)! The French toast are yum but careful for the sugar rush, and the omelet in brioche bun was yummy 😋
F. G.
This was my first time at Sunday. I had to stay in the queue for an hour (a good sign!), but it was totally worth it. The food was excellent (I had the courgette fritters and a banana bread) and the service fantastic, so friendly.
If you go, try the fermented soda, it's truly amazing.

I’ve been meaning to visit for a couple of years now but was always put off as I thought I’d have to wait in a big que. Finally visited this weekend at peak times and got a table straight away!
It’s a calm and lovely cafe, the food was delicious, great range of options from the regular English breakfast to more unusual things like courgette Fritti and corn fritters.
I loved that they did half portions of the sweet things too. It’s often so difficult to decide between savoury and sweet but this way my partner and I could have our main breakfast and share half a sweet option!
My only criticism would be of the acoustics inside.
I found it very hard to hear the waitress and my partner. It could be solved with some soft furnishings or padding under the tables probably.
A.
Cosy place, does get busy
Great brunch, loved the courgette fritters and eggs and for dessert we had half pancakes and half French toast... Was definitely full after that! French toast was lovely!!
N. G.
Just had an amazing sourdough bread with mushrooms and poached eggs in this local cafe. Service is really smiley and welcoming and the space simple and cozy 😁 Exactly what you need to start your weekend. Arrive early or expect to find a long queue - but definitely worth the wait!
P. A.
AMAZING!!! I had the buttermilk pancakes and WOW. My boyfriend had the full English breakfast and it was also amazing. Such a good atmosphere and vibe with the friendliest staff☺️Would defo recommend!
S. N.
Cozy cafe, and good food. Waiting times are a bit long during the weekend.
A. C.
Wonderful little place with delicious food. The staff is super nice and attentive to allergies. On Sundays there's a big line so keep that in mind. It's totally worth it though!
B. S.
Their breakfasts are so delicious. I rotate between different ones as they have plenty of vegetarian options. The half portions are also a decent size.
p. b.
Amazing food. Had the cornbread (with haloumi and other bits) blew my mind. Superb French toast and pancakes too. Friendly, chatty staff.
A. Ł.
Warning!: The usual brunch time queue on Sat/Sun is 1h (sometimes more, rarely less). But the wait is worth it :)
This is probably one of the best brunches I had in London. Have visited twice, tried a few things, and I have to say the portions are large and the flavours are great! The specials tend to have more exciting combinations, and the menu is full of amazing meals; it's really hard to only recommend one thing (pancakes, fritters, english breakfast), this place really has perfected most of what they offer.
The staff is nice, but it did seem like they could use one more person to quicken the service. However in these times we all know it's not easy so can't really hold this against them!
Will definitely be back on my next trip
H. T.
The food at SUNDAY is delicious and the portions are very generous. Be prepared to wait in line for your table, but once you get there it is 100% worth it. The staff are friendly, the location is lovely, and the overall experience was 10/10.
J. R.
We had to wait for quite a while to get a table but it was totally worth it. One of the best brunches I've ever had. At one point I saw someone eating with their eyes closed just to fully enjoy the food which was nice to see
B. F.
Second visit and yet again not disappointed. Recommend getting up early as this place fills up fast and rightly so. A menu for any appetite with big servings paired with big flavour. I would happily eat every item on the menu. I had the big breakfast with a side of corn fritters this visit, previously I shared the buttermilk pancakes and Turkish eggs.
C. M.
One of THE best brunches I’ve ever had in London. Be prepared for a wait but it is worth it. I had the corn fritters and despite being completely full (portions are generous), I kept nibbling on my meal until I cleaned my plate. Attentive and friendly staff.
J. B.
We adore Sunday. Food is insanely good. Cannot recommend them heartily enough. It’s so tough for all restaurants at the moment, so please support them and use their takeaway service if you live locally. You won’t be disappointed! Turns out they’ve managed to make all their hits work so you can eat at home.
Thanks Terence and the rest of the team. Good luck in these turbulent times!!
A. M.
Service was superb and nice atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating at the front and in the back garden. The corn fritters were stodgy sadly but perhaps just a once off.
L. M.
It's small and tight, but a lovely place with eclectic versions of classic breakfasts. From a Full English to the inspired stuffed French toast, there is a taste for everyone - savory to sweet. The coffee comes with heated milk and there is always a large bottle of minted water at the table.
The kippers with perfectly poached eggs, sourdough toast and watercress were full of flavor and a wonderful combination. The poached egg smoked haddock rarebit with avocado and bacon (did I mention how perfectly they poach an egg here?) was also incredibly flavorful and made a wonderful savory breakfast that is easily shareable.
I also got a half order (which easily is enough for 2 as well) of the stuffed French toast which was filled with a light a fluffy creamy filling , berries and a banana that was bruleed on top, giving it a crisp Carmel texture that I almost could not stop eating (even after the previous dishes).
The chai latte was delicious and had perfect little designs floating in the warm foam on the top. The tall black came with hot milk on the side that came in an adorable mini glass milk bottle.
If you come alone or with just one other, they may ask you to share a table, as this places gets quite busy, but the tight fit and sharing just adds to the ambience and character of this popular spot.
Just be prepared for a likely wait at peak times.
G.
Great flat white , always like their French toast, my favourite brunch place
R. “. M.
Absolutely the best brunch in town! There is always a long queue on weekends. Personally, it's worth the wait. Weekdays are less busy if you want to avoid queuing. (You can make a reservation on weekdays). Food is amazingly delicious, so creative! You can order anything from the menu literally. You won't be disappointed. The portion is big. Always make me full all day (easily skip dinner haha). Pancake is a must! It's totally worth the calories.😋
M. G.
It's as good as they say and worth the wait.
P. P. O.
Service was not great, and it wasn't even about the wait. My meal had to go back to the kitchen twice by which time I was barely breathing from hunger. They just couldn't get a 'well done egg without runny yolk' order right. I ordered a side of avocado for my main which came after my friends and I were done with all our mains (include the time for my meal re-visiting the kitchen).
I did enjoy the pancakes and the maple butter. I guess I just didn't enjoy it enough to go back for bad service!
A. M.
Amazing staff, amazing food. Try the french toast !
S. E.
Oh my goodness. There are no words to describe the deliciousness of Sunday’s, the pancakes, sweet corn fritters and French toast are out of this world.
When open, this is a warm, welcoming place for brunch. Today, we had the evening specials that are available, along with their full brunch menu for takeaway during lockdown 2.0. The three course menu was ridiculously tasty and we got lovely wines in to pair with each course.
Thank you Sunday’s for a fabulous night in ❤️
S. L.
Living nearby I try to go from time to time, sometimes alone so I can avoid the long queue. Before ten on weekends it tends to be quieter, but don't go with a group or you ll wait forever. The food is a delight. I miss the shakshukas! I bought the chef book the other day, hope I find it in it. Brunch is our favourite meal isn't it?
D. T.
A brilliant little cafe! It’s really busy on the weekends, as it’s opens relatively early compared to other cafe in the area.
The pancakes, french toast, corn fritters, corn bread and pork are all highly recommended.
The queues are really long on a weekend morning, so it’s good to get there early. They also won’t seat you unless your whole party is there.
L. L.
Great good! Personal favourite is the buttermilk pancake stack with berry compote, honeycomb butter and maple syrup! Though I'm not a big fan of their coffee, their food never fail to impress.
E. C.
Sunday never fails me. As usual I had coffee and corn fritters with smoked salmon. Always delicious. The French toast is a must try! They offer in 1/2 portion incase you are too full after an amazing brunch meal already.
A. B.
Sublime coffee, full english, pancakes of the gods. We wanted to try it all and will be back over a series of attempts to do so.
The food was so tasty, big portions, the tastes, flavours, textures, the vides. Just that magic that is why we dine out.
Pro tip - two mains and a half side of one of the sweets. 🙌
The service was impeccable. Coffee fuelled service staff delivering smiles on Sundays. What more could you ask for?
E. E.
This place is definitely one of my favourite places to go for brunch!
It’s reasonably priced for the quality and amount of food you get with each order.
The banana bread is sooooo dreamy with the cinnamon butter. Just wow!! I’m salivating just thinking about it.
I ordered the courgettes fritters which was presented to me in a gorgeous geometric structure that concealed all the other elements of the dish so magnificently. It felt like I was digging into a kinda surprise.
Honestly, I can’t go on enough about this place.
The staff are also superb!
C. P.
Great brunch, wonderful large menu with plenty of vegan / vego options. The staff even made the kimchi eggs dairy free for me which was amazing! Phenomenal coffee - the strength and almond milk tasted just like home in Aus, not overly sweetened like everywhere else in the U.K.
Highly recommend!
N. R.
After a 25 minute wait we got seated, it was cosy but a bit noisy. The oat flat white I got was excellent and a bit later I got the avocado toast and quinoa granola. The composition of both these were straightforward and the ingredients were really good. It was a bit surprising that the granola and avo sandwich was the only two brunch items on the menu that was vegan, with small changes a few of the other dishes could be made vegan. All in all we had an excellent time, and would be happy to be back soon
A. P.
Great little place. Had the buttermilk pancakes with bacon, super tasty! Coffee is probably one of the best in the area. The honeycomb butter was a little too rich and most was left behind but the rest was great and fantastic presentation! The queue was pretty long earlier in the day around 11-12pm so came back later on in the day around 3-4pm and only had to wait a few minutes. you can order a coffee while in the queue though so not so bad.
A. M.
Really good food (amazing for vegetarians)!
Cozy place and perfect for Sundays indeed ☕
We had to queue as they don't accept bookings on weekends. It was okay for us but be prepared for a busy café specially lunch time.
H. B.
Had a lovely brunch here, the food was delicious and the staff were all very friendly, especially considering that I was abit hangry on the lead up to being seated !
I would recommend this place to anybody looking for a quiet bite of deliciousness
E.
Great selection of drinks and food. Friendly staff and fairly fast service. The wait during a Saturday brunch time is about 1 hour for two of us. No reservation but can be alright on a sunny day. Not the typical brunch cafe in London, quite good!
S. L.
SUNDAY Cafe & Restaurant has certainly earned it's rave reviews! First time visiting & only had a five minute wait to be seated - there's an area outside of the shop where you have to wait to be seated as there isn't enough room for ppl to wait inside. Step inside at your peril as the waitress who seats you can be a bit abrupt (saw her do it a couple of times whilst we were there)& she will tell you to go back outside to wait until she comes for you. However, it's the food that deserves the highest mention! I chose the corn fritters & my daughter had the courgette fritters & we both tasted each other's & decided they should both be best sellers! Such generous portions, definitely get value for money. Must also mention the almond milk hot chocolate👌🏽We are already planning our next visit & know what we want to try next😋shout out to our lovely french waitress who did everything to ensure we enjoyed our visit. Highly recommend SUNDAY, we will be back!
S. M.
Delicious place for breakfast or brunch! It’s a cozy spot with really friendly service and great pricing considering the quality of the food and portion sizes. A truly wonderful place to spend a morning! I imagine it can get very busy, but on a Tuesday around 11 am we did not have to wait for a table for two! My friend got the pancakes (which were some of the best I’ve ever had!) and I had the avo on toast with poached eggs added.
J. R.
The food was fine but nothing more than that. Two vegan options on the menu and the staff seemed very frustrated with us when we asked if they could adjust any of their dishes to suit our needs so we just ordered the same thing all of us. I'm happy we tried it but won't return. There are so many avo toasts in London with friendly service.
D. M.
Prices for lunch menu definitely more restaurant than cafe but the rarebit on toast was sensational and the portion was generous. Full of wealthy looking Islington trendies - but it turns out they have very good taste. The menu was so inspired that I could easily go back and try everything. Inside was extremely packed and noisy at lunchtime so I sat out the front which was just lovely. Definitely worth the few extra pounds you spend here - top notch.
E. C.
Hands down the best breakfast I've eaten in my life. We shared three breakfasts between the two of us - they were all incredible. The french toast will blow your mind - so custardy and delicious.
Book a table on a weekday to avoid the wait - this place is popular.
Z. Z.
One of the best breakfasts and brunches in London. Good service and atmosphere, good Florentine eggs and very delicious French toast.
E.
Have been here several times; top brunch cafe. Food, coffee are excellent and service is nice and friendly too. Decor has the whole hipster vibe going on. Best to go early at weekends as it gets busy!
M. M.
Huge wait on Sunday. Waited 30mins to get a table. The menu was relatively more expensive than other brunch places. The service was slow and took about 30mins for the food to arrive. However the food was delicious, fresh and cooked with good quality ingredients.
J. C.
I make a point of not giving five stars unless an establishment really deserves it. SUNDAY really does, great service and of course fantastic food. There is always a queue from 10am onwards so plan in advance! Highly recommended
F. i.
Great service
Very cute and will amend menu for your dietary needs.
Coffee: sweet and black
Pancakes: soft airy fluffly
French toast was a disappointment, it was undercooked and soggy.
Salmon side was very fresh, almost like it was handpicked yesterday.
Highly recommend, get the corn fritters!
D. N.
Little gem hidden in Islington. Nice brunch cafe, went there without reservation and had to wait 10 minutes for a table which was fine.
Shared a few dishes: Pancakes, French toast and the English breakfast. All were super tasty, service was fast and attentive. Price was decent. Can't fault it.
Would definitely go again!
V. V.
AMAZING LUNCH FRIENDLY SERVICE FAIR PORTIONS AND GOOD PRICE!
S. V.
Lovely place. The wait is long but it’s worth it. The food looks good and tastes even better.
R. O.
Very good selection of food, definitely an amazing brunch! Small place so you're squished against other customers and it's noisy. 1-hour wait is pretty tough to endure when hungry, but they served us fresh mint tea while we were standing in line, waiting in the cold. Good customer service indeed!
A. W.
Beautiful breakfast - good sized portions so you don't walk away hungry, lovely coffee! Will definitely be going back!
B. M.
The food was delicious, and the coffee was tasty. The staff were friendly, and nice. But, the wait outside to get in and inside to get someone to take our order was long. So, this place is a perfect for a lazy Sunday brunch
A. M.
The locals love it and it’s got great coffee. Plus it’s beautifully decorated and located. But the really high price knocks off quite a few points for me and doesn’t make it worth it unfortunately. The croissants are very old (they are rock hard sometimes) yet cost a fortune as do all the other cakes (and the coffee). There are many independent cafes in London that sell nice coffee and really crunchy croissants for less than that. Still giving it 3 stars for the location, coffee, staff friendliness and decor.
V. C.
This café is a nice place for a brunch with friends, I strongly recommend the pancakes as they taste great and the dough is amazing! the place is small and quite cold in terms of temperature but in general it's cosy
M.
The food was absolutely divine, we had the half portion of pancakes (yum!) but just the right size. Couchette fritters, halloumi and avo - recommended! Service on the other hand was a bit, waited for 15mins to pay as the waitress forgot about our section. The queue is long tho so beware!
N. S.
Everything on this menu is delicious. My recommendation, come in once a week and have something different each time.
T. R.
Enjoyed a bacon and egg sandwich. Have been wanting to try this place out. Always looks 'packed' during lunchtime hours so decided to visit around 3pm.
Inside looks cosey. Pay at the till, and you can see the chef's working away in the back, which also seemed to have some greenery at the back (not sure if accessible to public).
Generally liked the look and feel of the inside, definitely going back to try a day in option.
The sandwich was amazing. Best bacon and egg sandwich I've ever had.
P.s tissue will be greatly appreciated.
G. H.
You will have to queue on a weekend, but it's a absolutely worth it. Best brunch in London.
S. M.
friendly staff, nice atmosphere, a fair wait for a table and food which was a bit overcooked. But the other 2 diners with me were not, so variable.
I. B.
I had nothing better to do today, so I rode 40 minutes on the overground to Sunday. Kinda crazy to go that far out of my way for a neighborhood cafe. But wow, I am so glad I did. Wonderful eggs on sourdough toast. Delicious pancakes with caramelized banana and sausage. My new favorite breakfast spot in London.
C. G.
Is it worth the hype? It’s certainly different, it’s certainly 5 stars, but is it worth the hype? Just. Probably. You’ve got to be willing to queue, you can’t mind smug, and you will mainly be surrounded by tourists, but it really is very good. My only bone of contention is that they don’t give you nearly enough maple syrup for the pancake stack, and decline to provide extra. Pictures below are of the courgette fritters and haddock rarebit. The latter is one of my favourites, but it’s a heavy option.
H. Y.
I went here with my wife for a nice breakfast after having to cancel our UK based honeymoon because of suddenly introduced new covid regulations. The staff were so lovely and helped cheer us up. Thank you so much Sunday.
K. M.
Delicious food ... service was slow (half hour to be seated on a Tuesday afternoon & an hour for the food to arrive!)
G. v. A.
Wow, this place had been hyped so I was a bit anxious going in but it really delivered!
Wonderful food and wonderful coffee.
I recommend you get there EARLY to avoid waiting.
I. D. O.
Delicious. Great staff. Be prepared to queue for a table
R. H.
I have travelled far and wide upon God's green earth and pride myself on my discerning pancake taste buds. I can confidently say that Sunday's pancakes are the best I have ever tasted. Beyond words delicious.
A. D.
The food is tasty, the coffee is great and the staff is lovely. Get there early if you want to skip the line!
D. C.
Great food. Huge portions. Good coffee. A huge line and but worth the wait. Wish they had a bigger restaurant. I will be on the line again.
J. C.
It was a delicious brunch for me after having not been there for a while. I liked the food, the coffee and the vibe that brought brought family and friends to this place.
N. H.
Food was of a very high quality. Seating is a bit squished. Be prepared for a very long wait in the queue at peak hours on weekends, e.g. over an hour
T. B.
Nice cafe. Lots of different options for breakfast. Service was great. Gets very busy, be prepared to wait on weekends.
S. D.
A lovely atmosphere and huge brunch menu. The staff were super helpful and the food looked as good as it tasted.
E. P.
Great food! Really pretty special. Nice vibe too
M. A.
Corn frtters is delicious, pancake is a must and you can order it as half portion.
P. C.
Fantastic food! The French toast and the avocado on sourdough are absolutely delicious!
M. G.
Always a pleasant visit, friendly staff, good food choices and nice atmosphere for a small crowded place.
D. R.
An impressive breakfast menu, vibrant atmosphere. I like the outdoor tables. The spicy pork omelette was delicious.
I. S.
Absolutely love this neighborhood brunch place. We have experienced different waiting times outside (from 15 minutes to and hour and 15 minutes) but it was worth it every time. Their food is delicious and their options are amazing. They have great options for meat lovers, fish lovers and vegetarians! I love having their dishes with scrambled eggs because very few places do them as well. Their coffee is also great. Their toasted banana bread is a must!
O. D.
When open, this is a warm, welcoming place for brunch. Today, we had the evening specials that are available, along with their full brunch menu for takeaway during lockdown 2.0.
w. l.
Great food and super friendly service. Will return to try the pancakes and cakes! Yum.
C. Z.
Brunch dream. Delicious healthy food, quality coffee and nice waitresses. The venue was packed but service was still smooth
M. D.
Eggs Royale were very good! Cosy place to have breakfast.
I. S.
My favourite brunch spot in London... Its worth the travel but be prepared for a long line outside - yes it's that good!! I can't do the dishes justice if I describe them, but you can be assured that anything on the menu is amazing. I give the coffee 5 stars as well
M. A.
Expect to wait over 45 min in London’s biggest lunch queue. Busy but no wait during the week, so best enjoy a lunch or coffee here in a relaxed fashion. Courgette, halloumi and egg plate is my favourite savory option, but the pancakes are also some of the best in London. There likely isn’t anything you can order that you won’t like. Service is also lovely.
A. C.
Really tasty brunch with a very cosy atmosphere. They have a great variety of dishes that are all good portions and reasonable value for money.
The pancakes with maple butter are particularly delicious but they have a range of really tasty vegetarian breakfasts too.
Really lovely spot.
s. h.
Yes, you will have to queue there at the weekend, but the food is wonderful and the service very friendly and very efficient. Can highly recommend the smoked haddock rarebit ( with poached egg, bacon and avocado) and the warm banana bread. Excellent coffee too, and a short but well chosen wine list.
L. F.
Incredibly tasty brunch and it’s a dog friendly place
S. M.
Best pancakes I've ever had. Avacado on bread and coffee was great as well!
J. B.
Worth the queue...best pancake breakfast ever!
l.
4.5 stars. Really enjoyed this little hipster cafe!
Food was super tasty: from the banana bread to the pancakes & kale/courgette/feta omelette - liked it all!
Plus the service - quite good! They allowed my little pup indoors (rain was bad outside, ahh London), gave her water, gave us water, & food / drinks all came out rather quickly.
If you come on a weekend, ready yourself for a long queue though. Weekdays should be better for seating.
s. T.
One of my favourite brunch places in London! Been here several times and highly recommend their buttermilk pancakes and corn fritters, one of the best around!
Queues get a bit crazy over the weekends, but well worth it if you’re prepared to wait.
H. H.
Sunday is one of my favourite brunch places in London and never disappoints. Be prepared to wait on a weekend (at least 45 min and more if it's a sunny day) but don't worry, it's worth it :) I always make the 'mistake' of ordering too much but that's because the portion sizes are generous and there are just too many good options to choose from. My personal favourites: banana bread, french toast, and courgette fritters.
D. L.
Walked in on a Friday afternoon, no wait. English breakfast was amazing, especially the toast and black pudding. Waiters were attentive and refilled our water as soon as I finished the jug. Good coffees too. And there are power sockets so when it's not too busy you could probably get work done here! Free WiFi
J. C.
Nice small cafe with nice fresh prepared dishes everyday.
M. M.
Visited the place with a posh lady, and with high expectations on a Sunday. We had to queue about an hour, but that is a good sign. The staff was super friendly 🌟. Coffees were outstanding 👍 The food was quick and very well presented, good and definitely above average but for me around 8-8.5/10 not as outstanding as previously expected from high ratings, just been missing a magic touch to rate more. Overall a good experience. Recommend for sure.
M.
Food is good and the staff are friendly. However, considering the length of the queues I was slightly disappointed- tables are packed in tightly, and the menu is not labelled with any allergen/diet information which should be given nowadays. The layout of the menu is also poor and difficult to read. Overall, pleasant, but nothing special and would not bother queuing again.
瑞.
Have been there for the first time a couple of years ago and yet I still can’t forget those buttermilk pancakes - YUM! Hope I can back to London soon to get them again :)
C. R.
Queued for 30 mins to get in, but it was well worth it. We had the corn fritters and Turkish eggs. Both were incredible. Coffee on point, too. Can't wait to go back and work my way through the curry, the pancakes, the waffles, the haddock rarebit... the list goes on.
R. B.
The food is good and the staff are friendly. But the queue to get in is always ludicrously long. I don't understand why as there are plenty of other great breakfast / brunch places in London that you can go to without half the hassle. Still, recommended, if you don't mind waiting ...
T. W.
Decent quality, but pricey. The menu really needs to be better at listing allergens. I have a milk allergy so checked with the waiter beforehand that no milk was used, however my toast arrived covered in butter.
V. G.
Perfectly amazing place for your weekend brunch. But beware there is almost always a line. Wait is worth it though. Turkish eggs is must try. French toast is also very good. Do try iced mocha on a hot sunny day.

Love this place! The food is always great and the atmosphere is lively - but not too lively. The queues do get long during the weekend, so expect to have a bit of a wait. They’re helpful with ordering coffee while you wait outside though, so it’s not that bad. Staff are friendly and helpful.
S. C.
There is always a queue so make sure to bring or get a coffee from inside while you wait - on a (rainy) Sunday morning we arrived at 9 and waited nearly an hour... But so did about 20!other people. Food is very filling and menu very extensive - though it did feel a few bits were missing season and far too much use of creme fraiche in everything. But it's a lovely place to go for brunch with friends, great coffee and cakes - just be prepared to wait. But you'll be happy you did :)
J. E.
I love this place, full of character and the food is delicious. The banana and caramel French toast is a solid favourite, if a little big on portions for some. Get there early though, queues start building at around brunch and hour long waits outside aren't out of the ordinary.
S. M.
Sunday is a cute cafe tucked away in suburban North London. The brunch menu is extensive and on point for those who worship at its alter in place of church. Expect to stand in a queue for over 45 minutes on the weekend to nab one of the coveted seats in this tiny establishment. We waited so long one cold January morning that I was frozen to the bone by the time we were seated and no loving crafted latte or bespoke breakfast stack could make it right. Don't be that dumb.
j. C.
Quality plating with quality food, nice - looking pastries and cakes, very good coffee and tea selection, exceptionally loved by locals, must - visit place if you are in London. booking is necessary especially on your first visit cause it might take a journey to get there if you are not around this cafe, drinks comes first so if you don't want to finish your drink before the food comes, ask them to bring them together. no added service charge on your bill;) Have a nice journey to have your best pancakes and french toast!
J. V.
The excellent food and efficient service make this spot worth the inevitable 30-60 minute brunch queue (grab a coffee from inside for the wait). You can't go wrong with anything on the menu, though the corn fritters are a highlight. Dinner here used to be magical but they only do brunch/lunch now; hopefully they find a way to bring back evening hours without wearing down the cook.
K. M.
I love this little cafe tucked away in a quiet residential area. They do not take bookings on the weekend so the wait can be quite long (usually an hour), but the food really is worth it. I would highly recommend the pancakes and corn fritters with salmon. Coffee is good but not great.
K. J.
Delicious food and incredible portions, great coffee, good service. Worth the wait
H. S. D.
I've been to Sunday twice, once on a Saturday morning where despite the wait looking long, we only waited 30 mins, and once on a Wednesday morning where we were seated right away. Service was wonderful and food was even better! The pancakes with the honeycomb butter and the fresh fruit compote are AMAZING. My other favourite is the courgette fritters. I would recommend sunday for breakfast or brunch as it is laid back, delicious, a nice atmosphere and delectable food! Thanks Sunday!
K. N.
Someday Google Maps will let us give half stars, until then - 3 stars for Sunday because of the wait staff (I get it, the place is tiny so they want to make sure you're in and out as fast as possible, and that's part of the gig for the wait staff so don't take it personally!), and a tad bit of overdoing the butter on the breads, sugars, etc. Overall the food is simple and no complaints here! We lined up for an hour in 2 degrees weather outside, and as soon as we were given a table, the wait staff were swarming all over us to order. Not a place to go if you want to catch up with friends over lunch.
V. G.
I go here a lot with my wife. They have range of dishes that are cooked fantastically - it is genuinely a treat to go there. So why 4* and not 5*. I consistently find the service a little disappointing - not terrible but disappointing.
One bug bear that I have, as they are very rigid, when asking if you can swap ingredients in their dishes, no matter how reasonable these requests are. The answer is nearly always - "you can buy that item separately.."
S. N.
Had a lovely time! There is usually a queue but the food is well worth it. Had a waffle with heaps of salmon, perfectly poached egg, lots of avocado, cress and rocket salad and wasabi cream cheese. Was delicious!
J. W.
The food is not bad, good by brunch standards, but the service is horrible. I don't understand why they would keep people waiting while there are multiple tables open. Is it to make their restaurant seem more "desirable"? Every time I come here I think I will never be back, but as it's right next to my house I erroneously have hope that the next time service will be better.
I. S.
Service: 8/10
Food: 10/10
Selection: 9/10
Value: 7/10
Environment: 6/10
Service was kind and as quick as they possible could. However being a very popular place the restaurant was very crowded.
The food was spot on delicious, perfectly cooked and displayed magnificently! The favours worked so well together.
The selection of the menu was concisely brunch with a few nice twists, including vegetarians options.
Personally I found the prices to be slightly highee than what I would pay for just the food but how the food was presented and put together it was okay.
The restaurant is very small, it was essentially someone's livings large living room size with multiple tables thrown in. Cozy.
J. M.
Awesome brunch, corn fritters and any of their corn bread dishes are off the charts. Food and coffee always great. Used to go way more often as just round the corner, but queue at weekends gets intense so arrive early.
A. C.
Beautiful renovated interesting food that will excite the taste buds. This is a great place for a business meeting, morning brunch with friends, or place to bring family when they’re visiting in town.
They accommodate to dietary restrictions including celiac’s and provide a wide range of gluten-free options.
J. L.
Food was nice. Do not order the chai tea latte as it was a tea bad with condominiums in hot milk.
Would be nice if they offered drinks when waiting outside in a queue.
H. P.
Queued for an hour to get a table (we got there at 11am) but it was 100% worth it. The menu was the most interesting I've seen for brunch in London, service was fast and friendly and prices very reasonable considering the quality and portion size. Definitely coming back, though earlier next time!
C. R.
What a beautiful restaurant - very cosy and quaint, lots of candles and plants. You're going to look amazing in this lighting while eating some delicious food. Everything is cooked really well with great flavour combinations that don't feel pretentious. Friendly service in with an intimate atmosphere. Make a booking and go have dinner soon!
N.
Nothing annoys me more than queuing for food, but this place is worth the twenty minute wait. Fantastic breakfast menu, good coffee and attentive staff. The Sunday big breakfast and bloody Mary combo will cure the heaviest of hangovers
R. J.
Well, one of the best place I have been in London. Plan be there at least 45 minutes before as it's super crowded (I have been on a Sunday, so not sure of other days). But rest assured, the food is amazing. Do try the hot chocolate.
D. C.
The food is perfectly decent and the service friendly enough. There's ALWAYS a queue on weekend mornings, but this is more to do with a lack of other options in the area rather than Sunday being specifically amazing. If you're from Auckland or Melbourne you'll be pretty underwhelmed.
A. E.
The best brunch place I've ever been to. the thing that's so amazing is that they change the menu every time I go. portions are really big, the food is DELICIOUS and the staff are really friendly. it's the only place where I would actually consider queuing for an hour (you rarely need to) - it's actually that good. really.
C. B.
We went on a weekend to have breakfast despite it was weekend we did not have to wait for taking a seat. Not too much space specially as we went with two babies. Regarding food, we had pancakes which were good but I did not love the toppings: bacon, mapple syrup and berries sauce all together. I would have preferred only one topping or at least on a separate way.
m.
i get to finally try this restaurant that has been a buzz in instagram for a while. waited for 2.5 hours in the rain and thankfully the wait was worth it! their brunch foods are super delicious! we ordered an extra dish because the wait was too long and we’re too hungry haha but they’re all good! especially the mousakka and oh the mocha was excellent too! nothing to complain about their food really! i wish they expand their restaurant like add a second floor or something because man you have a lot of fans😂
M. S.
This place has a really well thought out menu, a lovely atmosphere and nice staff. Could easily cruise into 5 stars but it's too popular for its size and I lament waiting 50 minutes to be seated for brunch.
E. W.
Love love the french toast! Half of a portion is big enough, can’t wait to go back for it again!
D. P.
Best breakfast I've had in London so far. Not too pricey but very impressive flavour combinations. Everything that comes out looks so gorgeous you almost don't want to ruin the presentation. Amazing.
J. B.
Great brunch, food is simply executed but remarkable. Lost a star because of service that can sometimes be hit and miss. Also a word of advice to the kitchen: we can see you whilst in the dining room so sitting on the counter top isn't the best of view we can get of you talented people...
A. B.
Terrific little spot. Amazing variety of brekky choices. I had the waffle pulled pork benedict with bacon and it was sensational. Coffee is perfect.
Only downfall is the lineup as it is a small cafe. However the food makes it worth it.
R. H.
Amazing brunch. Top marks for coffee, freshly-squeezed orange juice and avocado toast with poached eggs. No matter what your main choice is, get the corn fritters as a side. They are lovely. Friendly staff too.
Only not 5* because it was so busy we had to share a tiny table with strangers and it was very loud so hard to hear each other speak. Not a relaxing, lingering brunch spot! Approx £35 for brunch for 2.
U. J.
Loved the place! Definitely try the pancakes, latte, freshly squeezed orange Juice and corn fritters.. Best time to go - before 10 am or after 2 pm. You can order coffee from inside when standing in the queue for long.. Food is delicious and reasonably priced - definitely worth queueing for.
F. A.
Excellent place for brunch/breakfast
Cozy setting with friendly service - the place is mostly filled with locals which is a warm change for a popular breakfast restaurant in London. We got eggs florentine, french toast, pancakes, quinoa omelette and corn fritters. Everything was delicious!
F.
I would have LOVED to give this place a 5-star! It is cute, charming and the neighbourhood place that we all wish we had next door.
However, while I had the french toast, which literally is TO DIE FOR. My girlfriend had the eggs florentine which was very very boring and tasteless, with a buttery taste of the sauce. On top of that there was a hair in her dish - while they were nice to take it off, it still ruined it a bit for us.
It was a sunny day and we had a great spot outside, but as people started to cue up later on, it soon began to be extremely annoying to have all this people around us while eating so we left quick.
Victim of its own success, maybe, but still I give it a 3-star.
H. W.
Fresh ingredients and tasty food. Their coffee is amazing. There will always be a wait for a table as they don’t take reservations but it is worth it and will be the best thing you eat all week. Atmosphere, food and staff are all wonderful
V. F.
Photos can't show how good is a the food at this place. Small, cozy and usually crowded, worth anyway to get up early and stay on the queue. Very good portions and very tasty.
N. S.
Their Brunch is by far one of the best I tried in London, the food is a pleasant experience every time. The reason I only give it 4 stars is because of the long queing time. Expect 40-60 min during the weekend. Not cool!
E. T.
One of the best brunch venues in London now, but a victim of its own success as the queues after 10am tend to be about 1.5 hours, with no way of leaving the queue and coming back when your table is ready (unless your neighbours are super friendly!). French toast is INCREDIBLE!
J. J. S.
Great food in a friendly, communal atmosphere. Decent coffee as well.
The only downside is that it's small and popular so be prepared to wait. Last time I was there there were 10 people waiting outside, despite the rain.
N. W.
My favourite brunch spot in London, and I've tried a few in 9 years here. Freshest ingredients making some of very interesting and tasty menu options. Courgette fritters and pancakes are my tips
M.
Amazing as always! Bug portions, amazing amazing value for money- great food and taste amazing. Be prepared to wait for a table because it's that popular but worth it. Make sure to say Hi to the amazing chefs
D. L.
Really enjoyed it here; great decor, top quality coffee. Would recommend.
M. Z.
Anything I've eaten here has been so good and I don't think it's overpriced for what you get compared to some other similar cafes. Really nice place to spend time with friends or even alone. Staff are always really genuinely friendly and helpful.
A. B.
Incredible!! Doesn't matter if you live here or you're visiting London, just go and try for breakfast or brunch. Amazing dishes and really good service, highly recommended! You might have to wait 10min to get a table but definitely worth it.
E. M.
Great place, staff and food but the wait is long. Not sure if that's for a lack of other good brunch places in the area as I wouldn't prioritise waiting 45 minutes of your day just to go here. Would help to have a reservation system or list/call back when the travel is ready
M. Z.
Great coffee, awesome menu, nice service - what’s not to like?
R. W.
One word : Amazing, the food and the staff
A. B.
Absolutely stunning brunch place. Food was delicious, coffee (Caravan) beautifully made and delicious. French toast a must. Bit of a wait but well worth it! Go mid-afternoon midweek for the shortest queue.
T. H.
Great brunch places in the Islington area are surprisingly few & far between, but Sunday is a triumph - great food, a stylish and charming interior, and a great garden out the back for hot days. Tucked away in the backstreets of Barnsbury, its relatively remote location belies its status as the best breakfast place for miles around - the pancakes are sensational. A touch pricey, but a great treat.
D. K.
Advice for those with an angry stomach: on weekends, get there before 10am to avoid the queues. Delicious food, great coffee. Sit facing the window and enjoy the view of other people queuing and admiring your food ;) Reservations only possible on weekdays.
A. L.
Great tasting food and beautifully played, though 1hr wait in queue a bit much. Also drinks a bit average (juice and coconut chai - sounded better than they tasted). Keep up good work!
M. S.
Very cute cosy place and decent food. Always a queue so finding a seat is difficult. I had lunch and Sunday brunch and food was good but not amazing enough at a price to convince me to queue for so long.
R.
The food is delicious and the portions are big but be prepared for a long queue, waiting outside. At 9:30am (aka pretty early) we queued for 20 mins but if you show up at 10 it might be an hour. If you could reserve, this would be a 5 star.
A. U.
Small and nice room. Relaxed staff. Gorgeous organic but tasty food. The smoked haddock with poached eggs and sweet potatoes was brilliant for under £10. If in the area it is a must.
S. M.
Tasty and beautifully presented food was worth the 30 minute brunch queue on the weekend. A bit cramped and average coffee but the food was amazing.
K. G.
Great food and super friendly service. Book ahead to be sure of a table.
R. P.
Really nice cafe.
Maybe I wasn't lucky that day but I went there to warm myself up on a very cold winter day but not much comfort I get then. Rustic design.
But food... O my Lord! Fantastic! A bit pricey but absolutely worthy £. Great service. And busy busy busy.
Highly recommended.
T. G.
There is high demand for this place so there is always a line for at least 30 mins on weekends. Service and food is amazing and the menu changing every few months. Very fresh! Coffee is amazing!
A. B.
Had to wait about half an hour to get inside, like most brunch places here was busy on weekend! The service was good and food was tasty but bit pricy!
D. F.
My new find in North London and my new love. This is THE place to go to for breakfast/brunch. It does a stack of wonderfully fresh and tasty pancakes, some ace iced coffees and if you can get a table outside it’s a delight.
S. L.
Literally nowhere better for Brunch style food in London and possibly the world. The absolute best. Amazing staff too!
Y. L.
Quite long queue and waitress rushing us towards the end. But the food especially the french toast is fantastic. Cappuccino was wonderful too.
J. J.
Awesome fluffy pancakes!
A. E.
Great little café that serves up delicious breakfast. Cozy with a friendly staff. Gets ridiculously crowded on weekends with people queuing outside (the place is not worth queuing for 30-40 minutes) so go during the weekdays.
A.
Tried different time and I never been disappointed about it! Love it!!!
K. B.
Desperately long queues. Food is really great but they're really short staffed, so you'll end up waiting for a table outside (whilst there's tables waiting to be turned), waiting to order, and waiting to pay. If they hire a few more people it would be 5 stars.
K. W.
Excellent food - a cut above your average brunch menu and big portions. Worth the 45-minute wait on a Saturday at midday.
J. F.
Love this place for breakfast/brunch. Long queue, but more or less standard for brunch. They can get you coffee while you stand in line. Charming interior. Reminds me of NYC.
E. M.
Really good. Totally worth the wait. I love the cornbread and the pancakes are the best I’ve found in London. Definitely recommend.
H. A.
Good coffee and food, pricy .. but friendly. Nice for a quiet daytime work space or lunch, but sooo crowded on the weekends in the morning, be prepared to queue. The portions are quite big.
M. C.
It's a wonderful place to have a brunch. They are a bit tight on space, but they have great personnel and delicious foods. Totally recommend it!
N. V.
Great pancakes! Nice people, and the back garden is a good place to eat when the weather is nice. There's a bit of a queue sometimes, but it's well worth the wait
G. S. W.
Amazing banana french toast sandwich and perfect chicken and waffles.
P. A.
Amazing brunch place! Doing takeaway at the moment too, great tasty food.
R. P.
Delicious- absolutely worth queuing in the rain for.
L. S.
Small little place in a quiet street. the food is good but the place is overcrowded and either you wait a long time in line or end up in a crowded shared table with little elbow room. Staff can come of as a bit "rude", although they smile a lot.
S. D.
Love this place some nice views and some good walks
O. P.
Delicious brunch, generous servings and food is super fresh. The best hangover cure AND romantic getaway in Barnsbury. Don't miss the secret back-garden in summer!
A. W.
Waited over an hour outside for a table, this used to be my favourite cafe but it's getting ridiculous and the staff are getting worse. Guaranteed the wait would have been half the time if the staff seated people when there was a table free, or got the bill when asked for! Bit disappointing, won't rush back...
H. B.
Incredible brunches, attentive waiters, nice decor. (Cookies cake is 10/10)
S. T.
I love this place, either for a sophisticated but low key dinner or their amazing brunches. The staff are really genuine too. Get there early for brunch, and expect to queue!
E. S.
Amazing food but it is exceptionally busy. It is sometimes quite hard to hear your friend as they manage to pack quite a lot of people into a very small space!
V. B.
Best spot for breakfast in Islington
A. M.
Fantastic healthy breakfasts with many options for brunch and lunch dishes. It is very popular with trendy crowd so be prepared to queue on weekends!
b. b.
Impeccable cuisine! Innovation in the kitchen! Sunday's offering never fails to please the palate.
l. b.
This is by far one of the best cafes in London. The banana bread is to die for. The dinners on Thursday - Saturday are equally as brilliant. It's relaxed and the staff are relaxed and professional. A MUST !
S. L.
Epic cafe. The food here is made with heart and a love for making you feel good. In a very short list of my favourite brunches in London.
S. H.
Fantastic food, good coffee (not as great as Kobo Cafe though!), okay service, I think the staff was a bit stressed that day.
A. S.
🤤
M. C.
Great breakfasts, nice portions
L. B.
Usually extremely busy so have avoided but went in on a calmer day. I still waited for long, waitresses seemed unwilling to serve me. Food was nice and worth it.
R. W.
Great breakfast and is my local cafe. Be prepared to queue if you don't get here early. You can reserve on weekdays.
F. U.
Great brunch but very popular so expect to queue up for a while. Pancakes are amazing here!
d. C.
It has excellent service and very delicious brunch. Strongly recommend to all people coming here to spend your time with your friends.
a. v. d. e.
Perfect little neighbourhood brunch spot with delicious sourdough bread, avocado goodness, pancakes, lots of eggs and friendly service. Worth venturing to (10-15mins walk from highbury&islington).
K. W.
I'd give this place a 6 if I could. Had the Full English Breakfast. I think it was the best breakfast I've ever had. Excellent food.
S. D.
Food and the service was amazing 11/10 definitely would recommend
P.
Amazing pancakes with a delicious compote with a lump of butterscotch butter which I'm still dreaming about now.
A. B.
Food is always great. Staff is friendly. A shame the space is restricted and therefore, there is often a queue.
I gave up trying on week ends.
D. B.
This place does the most unusual but delicious brunch options. Courgette fritters were brilliant. Large portions as well.
k. a. (.
Great flavoursome dishes with fantastic presentation and great customer service. Be prepared to queue if you're there at a weekend.

Great menu ! Excellent food for average price. Nice and friendly staff. Really cool place for brunch with friends ! 🤗
E. K.
Yum yum yum what a great brunch the brioche French toast with caramelised bananas and banana compote 👌👌👌 5 out of 5. The corn fritters with avocado and salmon were super fresh too.
M.
amazing food, great service. Very small, but worth the wait!
R. R.
Quite possibly my favourite brunch spot globally, I always enjoy the menus here, especially the pancakes!
B. L.
Great food, If you don't want to wait then be there at 9am during the weekend otherwise it's a wait
J. C.
I feel very lucky to live just down the road from this wonderful little place. Breakfast, dinner and drinks have all been great, served by happy, friendly staff. Well done, Sunday.
S. I.
One of the best brunch in London!
A. P.
Amazing breakfast place! Arrive early to avoid the queue. I'll have to save room for the bakery items next time!
J. T.
Great brunch food, try the pancakes they are simply amazing. Only downside, expect to queue for 45 min at least for a table.
a. s.
Delicious food and relaxed trendy atmosphere. Recommend their French toast, pancakes, poached egg breakfasts and cakes.
B. G.
Surprisingly delicious food. Really really tip top. One minor nit: there is a surprising amount of sugar used in "healthy" dishes like the salad.
E.
Delicious food, but be prepared to wait. Service can also be slow and quite cosy/tight squeeze at some tables.
B. A.
The food here is great, you have to be prepared to wait in line but it's always worth it! The banana bread is a special treat.
M. P.
Great food, lovely live atmosphere. The banana bread is a must and one portion can be shared between two!
A. M.
This place has good food but there is always a queue. It's worth getting there before opening to ensure a seat on weekends
G. G.
I love this place! The queues are always long so be prepared to wait an hour or so... But it's totally worth it! If you go during the week days it's less busy!
N. S.
Great specialty coffee and really good breakfast. Only problem the queue you need to wait which often long
A. L. C.
One of my best cafes around this area. Good menu and service. Would like to happily recommend them.
a. r.
Lovely coffee and nibbles place.great staff - the owners should be proud of this little gem, however beware at weekends queues can form from hungry people wanting to get tables ..so get there early!
C. L.
One of the best places around for breakfast. It's tiny so get there at least 25 mins before opening on a weekend or you will queue.
E. A.
Amazing food and staff - what more can you ask for?
A. J.
Simply the most delicious brunch I’ve experienced in London.
But don’t go and add to the queue!
C. L.
Fave brekkie place in london. Unique take on Brunch. Only thing is the long lines

R. A.
Super cool brunch place!
B. Y.
The queue on the weekend is INSANE but the food is so tasty that you immediately forget how long you waited! Would defo reccommend!

Long wait for brunch - would be ok if it weren't so cold! Great brunch though.

Sunday is the best brunch in London.
Small floor space, so be prepared to wait.
