Reviews of The V&A Cafe
K. P.
“Three new refreshment rooms – the Gamble, Poynter and Morris Room – were opened in 1868, although work continued on their decorations for many years.” One of the most stunning cafe in London that I have been visited. Coffee and carrot cake is sort of reasonable price. Beautiful historic gem in London that I can stare at decorating all day.
M. S.
Fancy interior, live piano performance, and good coffee. A comfortable place to sit while waiting for someone else in the museum.
D. R.
So much better than I anticipated. I have been before but had coffee and cake, this time I had my son with me and he was hungry so had no choice.
We went for the deli choice which included a main and 2 salads to go with it ... there were 4 salad choices and all looked amazing, cauliflower and chickpea, Greek with feta, barley salad and caesar salad, very healthy and freshly made.
My son had the beef and I had a falafel style wrap
So tasty, really enjoyable and a bonus that we found a table in the original part of the building ... this place takes my breath away ... I love it here
A. C. C.
Extremely tasty food, for a reasonable price, in a wonderful setting. To be honest, I was surprised about how tasty and well prepared my food was. The menu is not very extensive, but my soup, bread, and portobello mushroom were super-tasty. The rooms themselves were super-beautiful too.
E. T.
Wonderful decoration and cozy place with lots of offerings. I ordered a earl grey flavored scone and a chicken wrap. Not really satisfied with the scone because it tastes like plain scone ( couldn't even smell the earl grey). But would recommend this lovely place for a cup of tea😊
S. S. P.
Amazing place. Delicious pastries and nice ambient. Stuff not that nice, but breathtaking decorations. Recomendable.
M. D.
The cafe of the Victoria and Albert Museum. The decoration of the tea rooms is fantastic. Coffees are good and they have a nice selection of pastries. They also serve breakfast and lunch, and an afternoon tea with recipes from the Victorian era that is worth trying. For afternoon tea it is recommended to book.
S. W.
Beautiful location and delicious cakes. Bit slow at clearing the tables but the surroundings more than made up for it.
S. W.
Iconic ceramic tiled tearooms. So rare to have a 'museum cafe' that is an attraction itself, as well as having a good selection of decently priced hot and cold deli proper meals (as well as usual tea and cakes). Don't make the mistake of sitting in the bland white cube of an entrance, push your way into the proper tea room bit.
C. C.
Good service but just not that many food options available.
H. M.
The Morris Room and Afternoon Tea on Fridays is to die for. A wonderful selection of savory and sweet plus a great selection of teas. A very nice way to enjoy afternoon tea in a room designed by Robert Morris.
M.
Victoria’s afternoon tea at Sunday, We could sit in Morris Room. Good atmosphere.
K. A.
Wonderful place to visit .. lots of art work ranging different cultures
R. B.
Spacious, many seating but a lot of people were just hanging around taking up too much space. Great food, all fairly priced. Staff were friendly and made sure customers were served immediately
D. B.
A lovely place to sit (in the summer) when you need a rest from all that gallery walking...
N. C.
Had a lunch here with my friend and love the history building style. Also with the good Tea ☕️
N. J.
A nice bustling cafe with excellent decor. Recommend the afternoon tea (scone, clotted cream butter and jam) for £4.95. It’s busy on weekends and might look a bit daunting to find a seat but worth it if you do.
A. L.
Great experience! Tables were very clean, there was a wide range of food and the staff were very fast too, it got a little crowded at times however we got somewhere to sit down and it was a nice experience inside the newly regenerated courtyard. Very calm and enjoyable experience overall and would recommend the V&A cafe in the summer!
X. Y.
Nice place and tasty scone with classic piano performance! Fabulous!
A. 3.
A really beautiful and hidden spot. Remarkably calm when one considers the surroundings, namely the middle of the museum drag. Has a lovely central water feature that cools the place down. Frequently popular but not frantic, so a great place to gather breath. Comes with free international level museum.
S. O.
Great for people watching, as the world stylish people gather here for a quick non calorie snack and reflections in the latest exhibitions. If you're lucky and it's sunny, people will even diptheut feet in the central water fountain! If not so so sunny, they offer a Victorian afternoon tea at the cafe!
N. G.
Love everything about V&A so much history special jewellery house. All floors of glass pottery furniture pictures and fashion history. Well worth a long visit. South Kensington.
M. F.
A good cafe with a reasonable selection of food which varies dependant on the time of day. The decor is wonderful particularly if you are able to sit in the 'older' area of the building. It can get a little noisy but that's the same in any place if you have a lot of people around so it's obviously quieter at less busy times. Toilet facilities are easily accessible.
J. H.
Really impressive Victorian decor in these, apparently the original refreshment rooms built for the museum - the the Morris, Gamble and Poynter Rooms.
Every time I've been there's been a bit of a wait for a table, and as it's cafeteria style service it's basically a free-for-all, which means you may well end up spending a while wandering back and forth waiting for a space at a table to become free (many of the tables end up being shared). The food is reasonable, not fantastic, but not bad either.
None of that is hugely important though, as it's the wonderful decor which is the undoubted star of the show here.
D. A.
Always a glorious experience, easily the most beautiful museum cafe in London and occasionally you have someone playing the piano. Dishes are generally expensive but coffee is sort of reasonably priced.
N. P.
Lovely courtyard great for kids and yummy food, quite pricey and the waitress took my food while I was still eating it straight from underneath me without saying a word....odd behaviour when your paying so much.
G. H.
We had Victorian afternoon tea in the William Morris tea rooms. Original recipes for the savouries and cakes which were great and a little different to the norm. Really friendly and helpful staff and the beautiful surroundings make a great treat. The V&A cafe was the first museum tea room in the world.
K. A.
Excellent place for a pre- or post-exhibition glass of wine, a coffee or one of the hot entries. I savoured my favorite fish pie at this location. Caveat: difficult to find seats in all three lavishly decorated rooms, so watch empty chairs like a hawk!
E. C.
Visited the cafe last week. Absolutely delicious Mushroom, puy lentil, onion, squash and smoked vegan Gouda pie. So amazing ....I'm seriously considering converting to a vegetarian !! How can I get this recipe ?
C. Y. L.
The environment is fabulous, but food is soso and little expensive!
P. P.
Not many places where you can you have a drink and bite in an interior like this and then wander out to see world class art
S. C.
Beautiful setting Courteous staff and good food
T. S.
Was a bit of a queue. Food and drink was good but a little expensive. Good service.
S. C.
Decent place for afternoon tea with friends
S. D.
Stunningly beautiful space - marble walls, stained glass windows, Liberty-print trays and huge lights - with high-quality cafe food to match. Try out unusual treats such as beetroot and chocolate cake or giant pistachio meringues for prices that you'd expect in South Kensington. I like this cafe so much, I'd consider coming here even without a trip to the V&A first.
S. J. G.
Delicious food - I had a chedder and chutney. baguette with 2 salads - very reasonable. Crowded but easy to get a table. Beautiful surroundings.
E. C.
Great scones with tea.
d. d.
Grab a cup of coffee in a beautiful faux piazza... This is the place... go during off peak seasons - we stay away during the peak summer times and weekends...
If you can manage to avoid the tourists - this is an unbeatable spot to relax and get some work done...
T. M.
Quick service, polite staff. Good food. Highly recommend.
I. S.
This no doubt is one of my favourite cafés in London.
My friend introduced me to this place a few years ago, and I’ve been coming back time and time again, sharing this “Victorian time capsule” with the rest of my friends from UK and abroad.
We usually have an afternoon English tea with scones or coffee and cakes. Very affordable and very tasty.
The photos do not do any justice to this magnificent café! They have 3 Victorian rooms right next to each other, but all have their own theme – it’s worth popping your nose into all 3 of them to pick the one you prefer the most. The middle room with mosaic windows is my favourite, especially if they play the grand-piano in there on the day.
I like the V&A museum, but I like the V&A café the most ;)
T. L.
Overpriced for okay foods and drinks, but the advantage of free entrance to v&a should be considered. Great ambience except for the weekends when too crowded.
k. k.
Fantastic cafe with live music.
A. B. M.
Very good cake, nice setting, a bit expensive.
K. P.
A beautiful gem of a casual restaurant. Yes, it is a cafeteria where you pick up your food from different stations and pay before you sit down, but the ambience is beautiful, the food is delicious and it is very reasonably priced.
M. H.
Very nice cafe which is located in the museum. The coffee is very good and everyone chooses what they want and how much they want. The food is tasty and the service is good. Good place.
G. J.
Comfortable café attached to the V&A. Good coffee; attentive, polite staff. Good coffee and a great pastries and cakes for an indulgent elevensies. Don't forget to go in the museum too!
N. O.
My cake was really good!
B. S.
Actually this is the world's first museum cafe and restaurant, opened in the 1860's.
Three magnificently designed refreshment rooms in a highly elaborate Victorian style named after their perspective designers (Gamble, Morris and Poytner) offer the perfect setting to taste a variety of freshly prepared salads, sandwiches and food made with top notch ingredients.
Excellent tea options as well to match this historic gem of an interior space.
Highly recommended.
V. C.
Very good food but a little bit pricy. Although one has to consider that those are the only means of income that the Museum has from the public.
J. I.
A nice Cafe, pricy but very pleasant on a warm day. Get yourself a cup of coffee and a muffin and people watch for a while before you head back into the Museum for another culture fix.
J. D.
oldest cafe restaurant in a museum in the world.
a peaceful place after a great museum.
love to stop by every time I visit this great museum.
i like the old tiles and the knowledgeable staff.
A. P.
Lovely setting. Very good choice of food and drink. A little pricey though. The toilets weren't clean.
A. B.
Amazing decoration. Lunch offerings are tasty at a fair price. Good for cup of tea or coffee too.
S.
First time I've had something to eat here. A good selection of both hot and cold food. Loved what I had, will be coming here again.
T. A.
Amazing location. Though tables can fill up quickly. Lunch of duck leg cassoulet was delicious
D. L.
A must go Café just to see the amazing decor. Great for an afternoon session of Art appreciation and some coffee to go with. Selection of savoury and sweet is available.
V. E.
I like going into the tiled interior but like other reviews it is hectic and disorganized system and not cheap. If you had hot food it would be cold betime you queued to pay.
O. V.
Food is nice but way over priced. Same meal in Europe costs held the price at most. The whole tea and cake section just gets in everyone's way.
L. I.
A nice place for a relaxing tea time.
S. A.
Great salads and a lovely space. Wish you could look out into the courtyard from the tables more.
J.
Very nice setting, good cafe food and drink but as to be expected, it's a bit pricey.
R. F.
Beautiful place for a cup of coffee and a slice of yummy cake. It's a must for me whenever I visit the V&A.
C. C.
Not so much abt the food but the environment, in all not bad.

A. A.
Very nice cafe in the heart of the V&A museum. I love the decoration and they have fine selection of drinks and cakes.
A. U.
A little pricey for what it is. Good quality food for a cafe, amazing location.
W. W.
Gorgeous setting for a nice cuppa coffee. Pity is far too busy. Who wants to cue for 10min for a coffee!
A. C.
Great plaice to grab a coffee and cake after exploring the museum. A little expensive but makes up for it with interesting surroundings and decor in some of the rooms.
K. B.
Very beautiful cafe setting. Only had scone to eat but it was very tasty.
N. B.
Very quick service given the mass amount of people. Lovely food lovely surroundings

(Translated) V & A Gardenin Cafe seems to be the world's first cafe with a museum. Cospa was reasonably good. It's self-service, so you don't need a tip. I went off lunch time a little around 14:00 on weekdays in June, but it was still crowded. There were more dishes than I expected, and I ordered pasta with lasagna and salad. There was also a quiche. Even though it was a self-service cafe, the atmosphere in the dining area was good, and the wallpaper and lighting were just fashionable. I think the museum is tired from walking all the time, so let's heal and walk again at this cafe.

There is also a terrace seat.
Compared to other cafes in V & A, the number of items is less, but there are menus that can be used for meals such as sandwiches and large carrot cakes, bite-sized lavender-flavored financiers, small baked goods, and a little with tea It's also good when you just want something sweet.
There is one multi-purpose dressing room in the store.
There is also a point card, and the 8th cup of coffee / tea is free! !

(Translated) I found everything to be very consistent. Have rarely tasted such well prepared vegetarian (even vegan) food. Was very pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly and attentive, worked quickly but without stress. After a round in the museum we were back, tried the cake and the coffee. There is really nothing to complain about. And the ambience contributes a lot, even though it's busy, you still feel relaxed. Thank you for everything. 🌹🌹🌹
