Reviews of Tried & True
J. C.
Loved this place, nice vibe, nice art, friendly staff. Food was really good as you can see. Wasn’t too busy either as there’s more seating than it appears from outside. Outside area looks nice if wasn’t so cold today! Pictures that show: creamy pesto mushrooms for (11.50 with egg) and a Benedict with spinach and bacon for £13)
L. M.
This is truly a hidden gem! The place is small and unassuming from the front but wow! The food is outstanding, fresh, delightful! I really can't say enough good things about every item we ordered. Even the simplest dish - fried eggs on seven seed toast - was exquisite! If I lived closer, I'd be back weekly!

Loved our visit to Tried and True. We were 3 people and I had my 2 month old with me. We sat at the back garden and they were very nice to accommodate me with a dairy / soya free option. We had pancakes, French toast and avocado on toast. The food and service both were great.
R. G.
It was close to a 5 star (4.5), because the staff are really nice and the food and drinks were great. The menu is really good for brunch, I am looking forward to trying a few more things on it.
A few constructive points:
1) the price is a little high for what you get when compared to other places in the area
2) we sat at the table near the entrance and when the door was open you get both the people flowing in/out and the cold air in the winter, a little screen would be nice
3) the waiter cleared up before we had finished everything
4) ordered a coffee and took ages to come and then 2 came at the same time
Overall a pleasant experience on our second trip to Tried&True, I would recommend it and will be going back soon.
F.
Went there for brunch after reading all the positive reviews, and wasn’t too impressed overall.
Ordered a pulled pork which was nice however didn’t like the sweet-ish bread it came with. They only got canned beers which was a major downside. Service is just ok.
M. F. B.
Really lovely service very tasty options food wise. Great for a brunch or lunch 5/5

Only my 2nd visit
Worth the walk across the commons from Barnes Bridge.
Excellent breakfast, coffee and menu. Great service
O. D.
Pulled pork benedict is absolutely divine. As it is very flavorful and succulent by itself, BBQ sauce is unnecessary. The staff is very friendly, helpful and polite. This is a great place to enjoy breakfast.

A lively cafe with good coffee and food
We were here on a Saturday morning (maybe closer to midday but it's Saturday so who's counting) and the place was very busy with most tables taken. Despite the busyness we were seated quickly (as were most other groups that came in while we were there) and the friendly staff took our orders without any wait.
The coffee was our first and was strong and good.
I ordered pancakes (as I had heard they were good) and I wasn't disappointed, they were light and fluffy and very filling. My girlfriend had one of the many scrambled eggs options and enjoyed them too.
The menu had lots of options for all day brunch so there should be something for anyone.
Prices were reasonable for the quality.

I've tried it and it's true! Tried and True is a great place.
I called to reserve a table for 4 with my 84 year old dad. The guy who answered was super pleasant. No, they don't take reservations on a Sunday for brunch but the wait is rarely longer than 10 minutes. He left me feeling super positive about my visit.
When we arrived we were looked after quickly and the very same person I spoke to pointed us to a table that would be free in 5 minutes or so.
Very pleasant waiters came to take a drinks order promptly then followed up with food orders later. The pace and attentiveness of the service was just right. They were on it but not too fast.
We went for their award-winning pulled pork and corn bread thingie, a vegetable pesto dish and scrambled eggs on toast.
All were great dishes. If you're particular about your scrambled eggs tell them and they'll make them runny, dry or in-between.
Tried and True is a great place. It feels cosy and local. The coffees and food were great and the service was spot on.
They're a lovely bunch of people and look forward to coming back soon.
f.
Went for brunch, it was fantastic. Great menu with a good selection of dishes, served all day which is a big plus for those of us who like a little lie in at the weekends. The pulled pork Benedict was really tasty. Will definitely.l be back to try more !
S. T.
Staff always friendly and food is great. My favourite is the big dill bagel. Sooo good. Great cafe for brunch or an after swim snack as it’s quite close to putney leisure centre
P. B.
Quiet cafe with good food. Pricey breakfast (£30 for 2 pax) but average in the area. I love the pancakes (pictured) and banana bread!
A. G. M.
Attention is good. Quality of the food was good but unfortunately I can't give 5 starts because is very overpriced for the quantity you get. Decoration inside can be better to make it look cosy and unique. It can also have more unique New Zealand dishes (the pulled pork was nice but besides it a lot of things are very standard)
H. L.
Great for value, lovely back garden terrace, friendly staff, delicious food
I. M.
One of the best Brunches places in Putney and one of my favourite in the world.
Serving breakfast all day up to 3pm
Such a treat.
Food & coffee are great!
Lovely staff.
A. B.
Great food. Lovely staff. Relaxed atmosphere. Nice little outdoor space at the back. Not the cheapest. Can't actually comment on their coffee as I don't really drink the stuff.
S. T.
Every time I've been here, it's been great! Food is delicious. This time I had the scrambled eggs on seeded bread with chorizo picante - so tasty! They mentioned that their eggs are done a bit runnier so, being pregnant, were accommodating when I requested more 'well done' eggs. Coffee is definitely good, one of the better coffee places this side of town. Staff super friendly and let you get on with the joys of just sitting and eating. Dog friendly, child friendly and nice, bright open cafe, with great music.
K. P.
A warm greeting from every staff member as you walk in. Delicious coffee and lovely brunch items. I felt like I was on holiday eating in their outside space. Look forward to visiting again!
E. S.
Very nice cosy cafe, the food is fresh and tasty, its very child friendly too which is mainly why we go there.
J. S. G.
Awesome scrambled eggs as usual, you can always bet on the food being top-notch :).
S. T.
Lovely little café, was very busy when I nipped in to buy coffee, but it's cute and the staff are friendly. If I'm in the area I'll pop by again
J. H. L.
My new favourite breakfast restaurant in London! Great food, decent coffee. Love the ambience of the restaurant. Pet friendly and they have garden at the back.
E. D.
Brunch was ok, definitely overpriced. The staff was very friendly and coffee was good. Not a very cosy coffee shop and the decoration is very plain.
M.
The staff are great and the quality of the ingredients is excellent however it is expensive and sometimes a matter of style over substance. For instance, instead of a typical sausage sandwich, you get a sausage PATTY sandwich which at £7, is pretty expensive. Maybe a patty is healthier? Still, it tasted good so no complaints (apart from the price!)
M. A.
Love the food and coffee here. Always delivers!
However, it's quite cramped and it's very loud! If they could sort the acoustics and give people a little more space I would visit more.
H. W.
Lovely staff and atmosphere. Gluten free options available
H. I.
Friendly staff, quick service and really tasty food. Especially nice in the sunny courtyard out the back with a glass of lemonade.
A. W.
First time back since lockdown, been really looking forward to going and it did not disappoint! Staff were lovely as always, love the relaxed atmosphere. All 3 of us enjoyed our breakfast immensely.
N. “. J.
Coffee is ok - for a specialty Fistmile coffee place this should be better. Eggs Benedict was ok, could have buttered the toast or given more hollandaise... Service is impeccable and setting is comfy and nice!
N. M. C.
Coffee is ok. Food was OK. Service is very good and setting is comfy and nice!
V. L. B.
Great place for a brunch with a terrace at the back. Very friendly staff, good coffee and love their food! My personal favourite is the pulled pork benedict - only order this one if you’re hungry!
M. G.
Amazing poached eggs! Whilst I was there it was obvious that the people coming in were regulars, and it is not surprising people come back when you get such a lovely welcome.
R. J.
Lovely atmosphere and great space with room for Prams which is rare in Putney . Good food, particularly the bacon sandwich, the bagel and the brownie! Service is always lovely and friendly too. Only criticism is they shut at 4 so not ideal for a long afternoon. Definitely a yummy mummy spot as the portions aren’t big enough for the hungry person!
H. A.
Lovely place to go for breakfast, brunch or a catch up
Excellent staff, friendly and relaxed
D. F.
Highly recommend this place for all day breakfast and brunch. And for informal business meetings... Cooking done with love.
A. R.
Lovely food after a short wait for a Sunday brunch. Our group of three loved every dish that was ordered. Even though it was very busy, the waiting time was not bad. Lovely coffee. I personally found it noisy, but no one else minded, saying that it added to the atmosphere! Professional and friendly service. Will definitely return.
G. W.
Tried and True are wonderful, let me count the ways:
- dog friendly
- covid safe
- good inside and outside
- splendid coffee
- *amazing* food, the best brunches you can get
C. O. C.
We were disappointed after having high hopes. At £15 for a vegetarian skillet it’s one of the priciest breakfasts in London (£70 for two(!). The BBQ pork Benedict was way too sweet and the corn bread had the consistency of cake very bizarre. Service was good initially but dropped off and it got tough to order anything or even get the bill. For the same price you could go somewhere more elegant for the money e.g the ivy in Chelsea. Sadly we won’t be making the effort to return as parking is so hard to find too and we aren’t local to the area we made a special trip for this place. It’s average and overpriced.
L. B.
Great coffee, delicious food and speedy friendly service.
J. E.
Food dishes are abundant and satisfying. Staff is brilliant. It does remind me a proper New Zealand cafe. Even the waiters conserve their kiwi accents.
A. W.
Great coffee. Recommend the T&T skillet. Friendly staff. Quick service even when busy. Really good brunch spot with quite large menu
L. B.
Good coffee, really good brunch, nice staff
A. Y.
We had breakfast here back in Sep 2017 while travelling around UK from New Zealand. Delicious food. Vibrant atmosphere. Busy and staff coped with excellence. Helpful waiter folded a flyer up to stop a wee wobble on table. Reasonable price. Would recommend
B. C.
Lovely food, lovely staff. 4 steps from my flat. Big win there
D. M.
Friendly local cafe serving good coffee and delicious food (the chocolate brownie is amazing). Can be bit pricey, but it's worth the treat! Really popular at the weekends so get there early.
T. C.
Good food, nice environment friendly staff. A bit too noisy for my taste. Pets allowed!
D. M.
Favourite brunch place. Very child friendly and the staff are some of the friendliest I've met in london. The menu's excellent, pancakes are phenomenal and the pulled pork cornbread combo is a winner. Miles better than 'The Breakfast Club'
M. J.
This is my local cafe and I often can be seen having breakfast with my fiancee or grabbing a coffee on the way to work in the morning. The coffee is great, not the strongest but smooth and full of flavour and the food is simple, filling and more importantly tasty. The staff are pleasant and welcoming making you feel relaxed and comfortable. I would definitely recommend Tried & True.
J. I.
Excellent square mile red brick espresso, exceptionally family friendly service. A great brunch menu ranging from light to substantial and awesome. Try the pancakes and the pulled pork Benedict. A real local gem.
A. T.
Stopped here yesterday whilst driving through Richmond - what a great find. Stylish interior, friendly staff and an absolutely superb lunch/ brunch menu. They also serve/use Square Mile beans for their coffees. Highly recommended.
E. K.
This place has the best coffee in the south west area. I drive to it from Teddington frequently, as it tops most others. I give it 4 stars as their food is disappointing for the price, so tend not to sit and eat.
W. R.
A favourite (and local) cafe. Great coffee (mean flat white), excellent food and fantastic service. Not a budget cafe but worth a visit and has a lovely little back garden which is delightful on a sunny day. Busy but not rammed like some other cafe's in the area. Highly recommended.
S. G.
Great menu I may have an outside garden around the back - makes a great place for a cheeky bit of brunch
M. M.
Really lovely and lively cafè, with good choice of breakast and brunch dishes. I love that they also offer glutenfree bread and pastries, as well as almond milk. The coffee is also very good! Nice for small groups, yoing couples and families.
S. S.
Really good coffee. Great food. This place is dope. Don't order the bacon sandwich. It's quite underwhelming. The Banana bread on the other hand...
K. E.
Excellent breakfast and brunch menu with plenty of options. The food was delicious! The staff are friendly and helpful and there is outdoor seating at the front and back.
C. P.
This bright, light cafe serves some of the best coffee in Putney. Away from the high street, the cafe boasts a sweet little garden at the back, friendly staff, and a sumptuous menu offering - making it an ideal brunch destination. An electronic loyalty card scheme rewards loyal customers with points and offers too!
J. C.
Reasonable brunch at steep prices. The signature pulled pork benedict (which basically only shares poached eggs with a real benedict) was a bit disappointing - underseasoned (no salt/pepper on the tables outside), with one poached egg cooked all the way to hard boiled. Not good enough at £13 a pop.
The interior is nice and service was good. Probably a nice local place if you are independently wealthy, but not worth a detour.
M. L.
Just ok. A bit pricey avocado toast, coffee was of the acidic kind. The garden area looks nice but it is a pity that two massive extractor fans blow hot air directly onto half of the tables... on a positive note, staff werw friendly and polite
C. J.
My flat white was delicious, the atmosphere was great! My eggs bene was a bit dry which was disappointing and a side order of chorizo for £5 is pricey for the quantity. It is a great cafe and food is responsibly sourced which equals taste.
L. N.
Best cafe in Putney - fabulous food, great coffee and the best brownies you'll ever taste! Really friendly staff. Only down side is that service can occasionally be a bit slow when they're really busy but that's not a problem if you're after a leisurely weekend brunch!
D. M.
Hands down, best brunch i have had in London. Dog, bike and child friendly and the coffee is great! Super friendly atmosphere and outdoor seating at the back
C. S.
Really tasty food. Simple, but oh so well done! Think it's quite well priced too, portions are just right! Place can get a tad on the noisy side, but earplugs and delicious food ain't such a bad combo!
A. L.
Friendly staff, baby and child friendly. Good food
K. H.
Whenever we go have a brunch there, we are never disappointed! We have brought friends and they absolutely loved it. You have to try the pulled pork with corn bread, it's amazing.
Definitely recommend it
V. L.
Coffee and tea was good but we didn't eat. We were seated quickly despite it being busy.
The only issue was that we were asked what food we wanted 3 times, by 3 different members of staff despite saying we didn't want to eat!
D. D. H.
Best breakfast/brunch place in Putney / Barnes in my opinion. Coffee is on par with the best (artisan, ...), Food is great (I recommend the skillets and the eggs Benedict), and I also love the environment.
C. G.
Excellent brunch with friendly staff, great food, good selection of teas and an outdoor seating area at the back so it's not too noisy. It can get busy but it's worth the wait you might have to face
S. R.
Very friendly and professional staff! Very good food as usual! Definitely recommend! I would like to see more non dairy options and the acoustic is not amazing so it's often quite noisy, if I am being picky
S. P.
Generally a nice local place out of the way from bustling Putney, it might be stretching it to say that their breakfast is the most innovative in London (corn bread and pulled pork, inspired by Louisiana cooking), but overall coffee is good and likely to be good for families.
A. G.
Been here several times and always had a great brunch. The signature pork brisket benedict is great in both fire cracker and regular form. The pancakes are also a good choice.
R. C.
Tried & True is a nice looking place inside and has a pretty decent menu. The food is a little different and can be quite tasty. The coffees is good, the service is great and the menu is well priced.
S. R.
Awesome styled kiwi Cafe. Exactly like the cafes in New Zealand. Great little gem in London. It has great food with friendly staff. Definitely get the pancakes 👌🏽
C. H. (.
Best cafe in Putney in my eyes. The food is extraordinary. The coffee is consistently great
Staff seem lovely and they even send you a voucher on your birthday for some free food.
Love it love it love it.
C. P.
One of my favourite brunch places in Putney. Friendly service, great food (with ingredients sourced from local shops) and best of all, for a coffee addict like me, they do great coffee.
M. N.
Amazing service. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Food is put it simply... great.
M. G.
Went here at midday Sunday, thinking my white t-shirt would be see through by the time I'd finish.
It was probably the coolest place in the UK.
The food and the coffee was great to.
Smashed it.
D. A.
Amazing Café with friendly staff. There is absolutely nothing better in this neighborhood. The food is incredible and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Can't ask more, really.
S. D.
Great little kiwi coffee shop. Brunch menu is also great. They sell Square Mile coffee here so I'm a big fan!
M. F.
Really tasty brunch, good sized portions and friendly staff. I wish I could eat here every day. Busy at lunch time, so sometimes you have to wait for a table.
M. M.
Very good . Staff great and polite , food fantastic and value for money .coffee the best in Putney as far as I'm concerned . Great little area out back for dining in the summer . And children very welcome . I will be back here to eat soon
C. M.
Really great for brunch or lunch during the week or weekend. Healthy, filling good stuff! Coffee isn't the best around but the food is tasty.
A.
Went here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Had to wait for a table (there were five of us) because it was so busy.
I don't quite see the point in buying breakfast things at a restaurant because dishes like poached egg on toast are so easy to make at home- and you don't have to spend £8 on it.
But if you have superfluous money to spend and you want to escape the monotony of your kitchen then I guess it makes sense to come to a place like this.
W. W.
Very child friendly place, lots of space. You can tell the owner and staff truly care about their food, customers and experience. Highly recommend for a weekend brunch.
k. l.
Really nice place, Lunch menu is excellent. All within a relaxed area. Also managed to get a free coffee (which is really good!) using the letyano app. I defiantly would recommend Tired andTrue.
E. E.
Super friendly service and great relaxed atmosphere. I've been here for brunch a few times and the food never dissapoins. It's a little pricey but worth it
A. R.
How did I forget to review this??? We moved 7 miles away a few years ago, and still go back when we can for the best pancakes in London.
D. M.
Nice to have a supplier of Square Mile Coffee at your doorstep. Glad to see they’re still open given the national circumstances.
M. S.
Good size meals, good menu with variations for gluten free which is great. Coffee hits the spot and friendly staff.
K. M.
Top quality coffee and food. Service was good and friendly. Not pretentious or overwhelmingly cool. Will be going back for more.
L. R.
TRIED it AND it’s TRU(E)ly good 😉
Super nice service, cozy interior and great food!
Def will be back! Can only recommend for a great brunch, super tasty coffee and good value for you money.

My local! 💕 I’m here every weekend. Can’t fault the fantastic coffee and friendly service. Expect a bit of a wait during busy times. Quality takes time ;)
P. T.
Lovely coffee shop, great for breakfast or brunch.
K. S.
This is my preferred place for breakfast & weekend brunch in Putney. Food and coffee are good, staff are friendly although it can get quite slow when the place is busy. I also find this cafe good for working.
A. M.
Great food (whether meals or cakes - their lemon drizzle cake is amazing!) and really friendly staff - I just wish they had longer opening hours!
S. J.
Brilliant, friendly and great food
S. L.
The go-to spot in the area for good coffee and excellent breakfast. I heartily recommend the pancakes. The service is excellent - friendly, attentive.
S. S.

H. J.
That is definitely one of the places you have to visit when you are in London. Products, service and atmosphere are great. In case I will ever visit London again I will come back for sure. Keep the good work!
N. Y.
Delicious Skillet Hash with chorizo.
c. d.
Friendly atmosphere and good brunches. My only complaint is that the acoustics are somehow always bad and it feels hectically noisy.
S. F.
I eat in here weekly, superb service, great menu and most importantly good coffee.
J. L.
Always good organic food and a choice for all tastes. Coffee's excellent and staff are exceptionally helpful and attentive.
J. Q. L.
Super friendly, good covid measures, still open, great food and coffee.

Visited for brunch with friends at the weekend. The found the food very average and overpriced. Never paid so much for breakfast anywhere in London.
J. T.
great coffee and food, super nice people and it's also dog-friendly. once of the top cafes in London.
7.
Bright, airy, consistently friendly staff, and the best coffee in Putney. Always worth a visit and never too crowded!

Great but slightly overpriced and over complicated menu. The pulled pork Benedict is huge and is really enough for 2 people
