Reviews of WA Cafe (Covent Garden)
O. L.
Great Japanese café with lots of beautiful cakes you would find in Japan. Their curry buns and katsu sandwich sell out quickly, so you'd have to be quick! Really nice place. Currently, no indoor dining.
S. C.
I brought my non Asian friend here for lunch and we both enjoyed the food and drinks very much. The serve was very good as this is a small cafe and it was quite crowded on a Saturday morning, the server has requested some customers to sit together around a table to make space for us. The drinks are definitely worth the price as it was a decent portion and it was good in taste (not watery at all). The sandwiches were very good as thick Japanese style bread with good portion of chicken in the sandwich. My friend returned in the afternoon to buy further 2 strawberry cake to bring home!

Wonderful staff, food & experience! For our anniversary, we splurged a little & got all the Japanese foods we always wanted to try :) We bought the croissants, tuna bread, soft bead, some cakes, and sandwiches! 10/10, staff was super lovely & let us pick some things up later on.

WA is a very small cafe with only few tables to sit in , the cafe looks very clean and the staff are very friendly and efficient. The cakes are very scrumptious and light and not too sweet as for the coffees is worth the money. Shame the cafe is not bigger and cakes can be sold out very quickly as it can get very busy. Highly recommend you should try this little cafe you won't regret it .

This japanese patisserie has become one my new favourite places!! Went yesterday with a friend for the first time to try their matcha latte and cake and loved the whole experience! Cakes are delicious!! (I tried the "strawberry short" one and i reccommend it). The place is tiny but spacious enough to enjoy your time and the atmosphere is nice and relaxed, they have something like 6 or 7 tables so you might have to wait but we didn't wait for long. Staff was amazing.. all the girls were welcoming and helpful.. you order and pay at the till and then they take everything to the table.. they sell their matcha bowl with a saucer for anyone interested.. (£28) and probably other things too but I just asked for that.. prices are not cheap but worth it! Will definitely come back and reccommend!!

I love the cute minimalist vibe of this cafe! I had a matcha gateaux which tasted really cool, although it would've been better with lesser sugar in it. They added £1 vat which made the total order value different than the menu price, so beware of that. All in all a good experience.
K. P.
Lovely little Japanese cafe in Covent Garden. Just 5-7mins walk from Leicester Square station. I enjoyed Matcha Tiramisu a lot. Cake itself was light and sweet. Black sesame was nice too. Shop was clean and lovely atmosphere. They only have 3-4 tables on the ground floor. Would not recommend trying to catch up with your office work in this place. I’ve been there twice and will come back again to try the other items.💕💕
陳.
love this cafe ! a bit small so there’s usually a wait for a table if you come during busier hours but it’s definitely worth it! the ume and yuzu cha (both hot and iced) are super refreshing and the cakes never disappoint (not too sweet and the sponges are always the perfect texture) ! will definitely continue to return here :)
J. T.
Love it! Was searching for birthday cakes for my little ones and found this gem…. Absolutely in love with their cakes. Bought 3 within a month 😅 fav is the chocolate banana one!
A. J.
Amazing desserts! Really cute spot with a variety of treats. We got the strawberry shortcake and the matcha tiramisu. Both were delicate and the flavours were bomb. Qould definitely go again and try more of their cakes and pans
H. S. (.
such a lovely, but small, japanese cafe! the food tasted sooo good — the flavours were so fragrant and the filling was so generous. the interior felt very cosy and clean too. definitely would recommend & would come again :)
E. R.
I went there with my family back in early 2020 and I'll never forget my experience. A very cute cafe with delicious pastries and drink. We loved it
P. P.
Amazing sweets really worth wait the queue to sit and have a lovely time. All the cups are beautiful 😍 and the sweets are as good they look. I want to come back soon :)
H. H.
A very lovely and tranquil patisserie that serves an array of the finest quality desserts that are so pleasing to the eye, you wouldn’t want to eat due to its prettiness.
I went for the berry mousse cake that was topped with raspberries and blueberries. The dessert was quite small, but very light upon eating. The fluffiness of the mousse and the lightness of the cake complimented really well and made it an all-round delicious dessert.
With that, I ordered the matcha latte. Like other places, the matcha taste was barely noticeable, perhaps overpowered by the milk. I like to have the matcha noticeable, but not strong. Still made for a great pairing with the dessert.
I would definitely come back here whenever I’m in the need of a treat to try their other desserts that they have on offer. Staff were lovely and the service was prompt
C. h.
Flavourful and lovely looking cakes.
One of my fav Japanese patisserie place but tbh, the price is higher than what it is..
the service is always up and down depending on who you meet.
Great location.
Hope it will improve but i will still visit when im in the area.
m.
I came here upon recommendation and was impressed. My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed the Matcha Tiramisu and Strawberry Short! You can tell a lot of thought, energy and love went into crafting these cakes. They were delicious! and not too sweet. They also pair well with the matcha and houjicha tea lattes which are earthy and the milk was frothed to perfection.
The staff were very polite and accommodating, they greeted us upon entry. We specifically loved the peaceful and calm vibe of the cafe as it allows for quality time spent with family while enjoying these lovely deserts. We hope that their customers can also follow suit! :)
J. H. T.
A perfect little cafe with delicious (and adorable) cakes and very nice matcha latte. The stuff are Japanese as well, which creates a really unique and comforting vibe of an authentic Japanese cafe, and truly matches the name of the place -- Wa (和).
D. H.
Great Japanese patisserie! Amazing matcha tiramisu!it was not overwhelmingly sweet and the tastes were so on spot! We loved it!
P. S.
Best looking cakes in town! Good value for money too. I recommend the banana and chocolate cake. There is an area for indoor dining where you can sit and have a tea or coffee too.
y. 8.
I ordered a whole Cheese cake for a Christmas party with my friends, and everyone loves its sophisticated looks and taste. I added extra Christmas decorations such as a mini Sugar Santa and a Chocolate plate with Merry Christmas message, and the cake was absolutely cute with them ! I’d love to order a Christmas cake of this shop again next year : ) One of the best Japanese cake shops in London 👏
s. b.
Really friendly staff, and love food. Could not stop bowing because I wanted to show my gratitude for the staff. Plus it feel I was transported to Japan
M. M.
I am very well surprised by Wa Café. The inside is quite small but there few places to sit. The cakes were absolutely amazing and the drinks too. I just hoped that they will have more cold drinks like more milk tea choices. I will definitely come back to try more cakes.
C. C.
Super friendly staff and good deserts with selection of Japanese teas. Anything matcha is amazing.
R.
Lovely dessert place - the desserts are delicious - good tea selection- the staff was friendly and helpful- normally busy - the sitting area is quite small and you might have to wait but it’s worth!
伍. W.
We had three cAkes. Sesame, chocolate and Matcha Tiramisu. The sesame one is the best we think
S. F.
This is the place to go for a cake in Covent Garden! They have a wide variety with unique flavors, and every piece is gorgeous! Definitely a picture perfect location when you're craving something sweet!
C. K.
Offers a wide variety of japanese cakes. The strawberry shortcake is nice if you want to something light. Their gateau chocolate is also nice but a little dense.
J.
Everything here is beautiful. Such impressive detail. We had the matcha tiramisu which was good but didn’t really taste anything like tiramisu. The chocolate praline was too chocolatey for my taste. The green tea was fine, but would’ve been better not in a to go cup I think.
A. L.
Amazing Japanese patisserie. The staff are all so sweet and wonderful. Cakes, sandwiches, rolls, pastries, hot and cold drinks always on offer. The strawberry short cake is THE best. Wa Cafe never disappoints.
Z. M.
I love their cakes, yes it’s incredibly busy and packed (especially with eat out to help out). We got a takeaway instead, it was so nicely packed when we got home, they are still immaculate within the box. They are delicious, light and delicate. I strongly recommend their Mont Blanc - it’s the lightest and nicest version I tried.
K. Y. L. (.
Lovely little japanese cafe hidden in back streets of London. Staff very welcoming and always package takeaway items securely. Only downside is now this branch is getting too popular and sometimes hard to get a sit
L. A.
When we got there, almost everyone had ran out. And since its a small store there was no space to eat in. I got the matcha frappe and the matcha Tiramisu. I was dissatisfied with the drink as it tasted more like milk then what it should be tasting like. By 1 look at it, its obvious there was more milk and a little amount matcha. Didn't even look that green.
The Tiramisu was the best Tiramisu I've ever tried! It was so soft, creamy, I dont know how to describe... ! The cookie at the bottom of it was a bit hard and didn't tasty that nice so I didnt eat that, but omg I want more of the Tiramisu!!
L.
I strongly recommend the matcha roll and matcha tiramisu! I am a big matcha fan and I think this place is famous for its authentic Japanese patisserie!! It’s my second time to buy the matcha roll from there!
N. C.
I like cake this place so much not too sweet for me and nice bakery.Shop is clean and nice staff👍🏻
H.
Lovely Japanese cafe with plenty of options. We loved the food and the tea. However, way too much single plastics so not very eco friendly cafe.
S. J.
Calm and peaceful place with minimal style interior. You can feel the Japanese vibe (Zen) and soothing background music. Cakes look good, but the tase is alright for me; altough I think it's a little expensive. I will perhaps recommend if you wanna find a quiet place with Japanese dessert and coffee/tea.
H. P.
I love those soft cakes!! Also, they have lots of good malcha taste dessert :)
T. A.
Ordered an iced matcha latte, strawberry short and a custard pan. The latte wasn't too sweet or bitter which was a great complement to the fluffy strawberry shortcake and custard pan. Would definitely recommend the cake which is my go to with most Japanese patisseries. Yum!
H. Q. L.
Crowded but friendly service. The cakes are a bit too sweet for me.
L. S.
Been in this place many times and tried different cakes and sandwiches and it is always good. The cake is light and not too sweet and the their bread is really soft and tasty.
Staff are so nice, polite and helpful.
A. J. S.
Very friendly, nice staff. Good coffee and tea, but their cakes are too sweet and heavy than I expected.
S. H.
Always a lovely experience to go to WA Cafe (Covent Garden branch) my fave is their Mont Blanc cake and the soufflé cheesecake. Service is always friendly and helpful. They need a much bigger site however!
C. N.
Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Honestly they creat the most amazing masterpieces for the taste buds! Only had take away here but eaten in at the branch in Ealing a few times! A small but unique selection of sweet and savory treats. My favourites are definitely the matcha tea cakes and the strawberry shortcake.
L. L.
Amazing cakes! Super fluffy and light and not too sweet. Drinks are good too. They use soya milk normally which is a plus for vegans and dairy allergies. Matcha roll cake is a favourite, perfectly balanced sweetness and matcha flavour. I find the strawberry shortcake a tad too sweet as our slice didn't have much strawberries.
K. C.
Nice atmosphere not too busy in a busy street.
a small variety of cakes and pastries.
Y. C.
Very good hot drinks and Japanese style cakes. I'm glad they opened store in city center. We tried matcha cake roll and sesame cheese cake , both texture light and full of flavour. We ordered hojicha latte, which also impressed us.
The price is a bit high because the volume, it's a small pic of cake, but the flavour does worth it.
1 drink plus 1 cake is around £9-10 per head.
Friendly service, small but nice sitting area.
They also provide savory options such as sandwich, all with Japanese twist (ie tempura sandwich)
O.
Deliciously yummy desserts! Definitely planning to come back to try out all the cakes! Great packaging! They put a roll inside the box so the cakes wouldn't wobble or break apart. Good idea!
One downfalls to this place is the heat itself inside the cafe...its extremely humid in there. I understand it was winter and cold outside but the cafe felt was unbelievably un-breathable. I ended up taking it for take out and wanted be outside as soon as possible.
L. D.
The cakes are not too sweet and yummy! I'll order again and the staff on Haven Green are soo sweet too and smiles even though it's busy.
J. H.
I can safely say WA has to be my top choice of Japanese desserts in London. Their quality is unrivalled. My strawberry shortcake had a light sponge and the airy cream was delicately sweet. The sakura roll cake while pleasant but I wasn’t too sure what to make of it. I have never tried anything inspired by this flower prior. There’s more tables but due to its popularity, we still weren’t able to get a seat.
K. S.
I just wanted to give you 5***** for your Matcha Tiramisu. It was the softest, creamiest, best ever matcha cake I had in London. Omg. I don't know what you do with it, but pretty please, do not change the recipe!!! Big hugs and load of love. I will send my bf back to buy more :* xxxxxxxx!
A. M.
Very high quality patisserie and the taste was exquisite. I will definitely visit again.
S. L.
relaxing and quiet place to enjoy an afternoon tea, few seats at front and back of the counter. My favourite is always their houjicha latte. Their sweets are light and delicious but portion is small, if you are after for small bites which is not sugarly then you are at the right place.
s. c.
Amazing cakes, delightful and helpful staff. quite possibly the best cafe in London!! absolutely love everything on the menu.
M. G.
Given the dearth of gluten free coffee and cake options in Covent Garden area, the two slices of Japanese-style cake this place offered were welcome and tasty. But at about £6 a slice, plus coffee that was ok but not great, it's a gluten-free option of last resort.
L. G.
Fantastic Japanese patisserie - if you've never tried this style before you are in for a real treat, on completely another planet from British cakes. Their shortcake in particular is amazing - perfectly soft and creamy. Also highly recommend their frankfurter / hot dog rolls too - a classic convenience store snack in Japan but very hard to find them properly done like this in London.
S. Y.
Very soft sponge cake and not too sweet taste which is my favorite one.
Cosy but clean and tidy.
The cakes are bit pricy. They have many kind of drinks.
A. L.
WA cafe has a beautiful and delicious selection of cakes and desserts that are light and well priced. The Easter Sakura Panna cotta was the highlight of their selection. Also available are hot drinks and sandwiches
C. W. W.
Luxurious ✨ WA is s Japanese patisserie that serves variety authentic cakes and Amazon coffee.
The Japanese are renowned for quality and being immaculate WA is exactly that, which is why it is slightly more pricy compared to other patisserie. However it is definitely worth the value!
The place is small but cosy a place to go with friend or drop by to buy a cake to takeaway.
The coffee is great and definitely comparable to other high end coffee shops and the cakes are like light , creamy and just the right portion.
K. W.
Amazing!
If you have East Asian patisserie craving…this is where you should go!
The barista lady is always helpful and nice to the customers and would tell you about the seasonal flavours if you ask. Would visit the store whenever I’m nearby, such a tasty and enjoyable experience.
Л. В.
One of my favourite cafes in London! So precious and wonderful in every way.
N.
Love this beautiful little Japanese cafe in Covent Garden! This is an outpost of the original cafe in Ealing. The pastries - both savoury and sweet - and cakes are absolutely delicious. My favourite is the strawberry Swiss roll. The drinks, especially the matcha latte, are really yummy. The service is friendly and efficient. Definitely stop by when you're next in Covent Garden!
K.
Large selection of Japanese patisserie/cakes which are regularly restocked. Modern and clean design which is consistent with their Ealing branch. Serves matcha/hojicha tea lattes and drip coffee, although their matcha latte is not as well made as their other branch.
There are also savoury breads, katsu prawn/chicken sandwiches as well as the classic Japanese curry fried doughnuts.
M. G.
My favourite place in covent garden, hands down. Japanese patisserie, their black sesame latte and their white sesame cheesecake are my favourite treats. Not too sweet, an explosion of taste. The staff is always super lovely. Highly recommended.
M. O.
Recommend ebi sandwich, their tempura are crispy and going very well with the soft buns. For dessert, would recommend matcha roll and strawberry short cake, especially the cake part of matcha roll has an ideal texture and taste for me. Their cheesecake pretty too heavy texture in my opinion. Too sweet for monbranc and too dry for raspberry pistachio tart but not bad to try.
J.
Best Curry Bun, Ebi Tempura Sandwich and Sesame Latte in the whole of London.
Beautiful plating, crispy tempura and really unique bread.
The strawberry roll cake is just out of the world. The cake layer is soft and goes well with the creamy texture. The strawberry chunks inside are very refreshing and wouldn't be too sweet or too sour.
S. S.
The only authentic Japanese cafe in Central London that I know of set up by two very talented patisseries who also run the hugely popular WA cafe in Ealing. All the friendly staff, the ingredients, chefs, cakes, bread — it’s all Japanese and if you have ever been to a bakery in Japan you’ll know that’s a very big deal.
L.
I am a huge fan of WA cafe! They do the best cakes in town! I'm not a huge fan of the English very heavy cakes but the Japanese ones are not only very fresh but very light as they don't put too much sugar! Only gave it 4 stars because it gets pretty crowded and there's not much seats available which is a shame. It's pretty good for takeaway though! Once you try these cakes you won't go back to any others 😉
B. R.
I love WA. Super authentic cakes and drinks. I go there whenever I miss the cake shops I adored so much living in Japan. The mont blanc is to die for! As is the strawberry shortcake. Honestly, you can't go wrong. Only downside is it's often full of loud Chinese tourists. So maybe get your cake to go.
M. M.
Small cafe at Covent garden specialized in Japanese Patisserie. Friendly staff and fine sweets. Clean and cosy.
S. T.
Delicious cakes and doesn't feel sickly sweet either. Love the range of cakes, teas and coffees available. Good variety of Japanese cakes and sandwiches. Do wish the place was slightly bigger as at times it's hard to get a seat.
P. B.
On the search for a good cream cake, I went to a lot of cafés in the UK - most of them only sell sponge with loads of icing. WA Cafe is different. We had a delicious matcha roll and a strawberry cake, both one of the best I had in the UK. The drinks are nicely complementing the food.
The cafe itself is very well situated, clean and offers lots of places to sit and enjoy. The staff is friendly, helpful and delivers quickly.
If you're near Trafalgar Square and up for a break, WA Cafe is definitely worth a visit!
W. L.
WA is my favourite Japanese style cake shop in London! I’m glad that they are finally opened in Covent Garden as they only has one shop in Ealing Broadway previously. Although there are fewer cake selection in this shop, their cakes are still by far the best in London! Not too sweet and have complicated flavours! My favourite is the black sesame cheesecake! The flavours just go so well with one another and so smooth! I hope they can have as many cakes selection as the shop in Ealing Broadway one day! PS their hojicha latte is amazing! It’s quite rare to find hojicha latte in London and make sure to try it out!
C. L.
I’ve been here several times, tried pretty much all desserts and drinks. I personally feel sandwiches are of better value and quality than desserts. If you just want Japanese dessert, you can also try Lanka or Tombo. Highly recommend chicken katsu sandwich and Hojicha latte. Please be reminded that the sandwiches do run out very fast, I usually find nothing left if I arrive after 5pm on weekends.
A.
I was fortunate found this cafe with my best friend, definitely become one of my favourite cafe to hang out with, their matcha and strawberry shortcake are the besttt!!!customer service is great, i really love them!
T. T.
Japanese cafe. Staff are awesome and so helpful. Great cakes- the strawberry shortcake is lovely. The hojicha latte is amazing. Fully recommended.
The black sesame latte is also great!
M. K.
The Matcha Rolled Cake was exquisite. The best matcha cake tasted so far. Souffle cheesecake & sesame cheesecake are worth a mention. Staff are ever friendly and helpful. Try the egg mayo fried doughnuts. Out of this world.
A. J. P.
Very good place for Japanese themed desserts and coffee/teas. Always friendly service.
H. M.
The cakes here are really nice and always will give you a surprise with new things on the menu. Also the hot drinks are nice as well with different flavours as well. Especially the black sesame latte.
C. &. P.
In love with @wacafelondon
Beautiful and tasty cakes, friendly service too!
It's my go to cafe when I crave for cakes.
Convenient location, nice and quiet inside.
D. D.
Lovely cakes and very good coffee
P.
Desserts are fine. Spaces are too tiny, hard to find a seat. Suggest to order take-away or come early.
G. L.
Japanese style cafe in Covent garden.
The cake is SUPER goooooood!
If you would like to feel relax, you can go :)
A.
Found this wonderful place inside a small street and was so cozy and subtle. The desserts looked so delicious and tasted even more so. I tried the Sakura roll and honestly is the best cake I've ever tried, such soft subtle flavours, but so yummy. The prices were a bit high though.
A. W.
If you love all things Japanese then WA Cafe is for you. Exquisite cakes individual and larger occasion cakes. Beautifully presented and delicious to eat. Also great sandwiches and hot and cold drinks. Large cakes can be ordered on line and picked up. A great experience all round. Enjoy.
G. C.
Absolutely loved the white sesame cheesecake! Also took away some bakery - would definitely recommend the matcha bun with azuki and cream cheese too!
R. M. B.
Authentic pie and mash meal. Tasty grub! Plenty of options (including vegan) on the menu. Highly recommended.
J. L.
Cozy Japanese cafe - good place to try Asian-flavored desserts that use French patisserie techniques. The white sesame cheesecake along with the black sesame latte were both unique and delicious. The strawberry roulade was light and fluffy.
S. C.
Food
Ordered the white sesame cheesecake. The cheese part was velvety smooth as butter. Bottom crust made with black sesame was deliciously crumbly and nutty. At first glance the portion size seems small but it’s actually the right amount before you feel like you’ve had too much.
Ambience
Love the clean atmosphere of this place and definitely feels like something you’d experience in Japan. The place itself is quite small and despite going in just after opening it became quite full quite quickly. Even being full, it felt quite spacious if a bit noisy.
Service
The service was very friendly and attentive.
Price
Reasonable prices. It’s what you’d normally pay for desert and coffee but given the quality I’d say it is well worth it.
L. J.
The matcha roll cake is absolutely delicious, perfect sweetness! The matcha latte could be a bit sweeter however. Very crowded and have to wait for seats.
Y. P.
Lovely Japanese dessert place with friendly and helpful staffs. Cozy but good seatings for couple or small group of people. Matcha roll (in the photo) is super soft and yummy, along with good flavour of red beans. Ok coffee.
A. D.
Bakery is really delicious and pretty (instagramable ;) but matcha latte is not as rich as matcha latte normally would be.
m. T.
Very unprofessional waitress. We were asking an extra fork for cake. The girl was like throwing the fork on the table.
I like the green tea latte, it was not very sweet. The iced latte was tasteless. The strawyberry cake was OK.
j. d.
absolutely love all desserts from this cafe, but usually do take away as it's always packed
v. T.
Cosy nice little Japanese patisserie in between Leicester Square and Covent Garden. One of my favourite cafe in Central London. If you are looking for something different, not too sweet. This is the place for you. White Sesame Cheese cake definitely worth trying.
S. L. L.
Needless to say the desserts here are incredibly delicious! Staffs are friendly. Tip: don’t go too late in the evening when they are about to close( 7-8pm) as you won’t have much choices left.
T. L.
Their cakes seem to be tailored to a more western palate (ie. sweeter than you'd find them in Japan/Asia) so your mileage may vary depending on what you're more used to. I personally found the Mont Blanc too sweet and Kova just across the road does a much better rendition of it. Environment is nice enough but on weekends they have a 1-hour limit for table seating and will ask you to leave once you actually hit that limit. Considering that a cake + a tea comes up ot £10, it's pretty bad value for money IMO.
S. G.
Brilliant service, friendly staff and delicious food and drink. Been here quite a few times but today was the first time in a long time. One of the best places to have Japanese patisserie!
p.
It was so nice and minimalistic.
You can read a book and relax while eating their delicious deserts /savoury food.
J. X.
I absolutely LOVE this café. The cakes are so good. Highly recommend the white sesame cheese cake and strawberry slices. Matcha croissant and black sesame croissant are also good. I tried every single type. Of course, depends on your own taste. they are all amazing, you would not be disappointed. Teas and coffee is not as exceptional as the cakes. Enjoy!
J. H.
Cakes are so pretty and taste amazing!!! Nice cosy atmosphere and lovely staff!
F. Z.
Good tasting cakes but very pricey. The black sesame-based cheese cake is a good choice, and everything is not overly sweet.
f. y.
Food is perfect. It is a Tokyo pastries cake house setting. Limited space in the tea house. One hour for customers to dine in. Overall ,perfect ambience and food!
g. b.
the cakes here are very light and fluffy, with the exception of the chocolate ones, which are rich and would taste great alongside some warm coffee. the cakes aren't too sweet and they taste so delicious. my favourite was the strawberry cake :) i loved the cafe aesthetic: it was clean and minimalistic and looked elegant. the only thing is the cakes are a bit on the pricey side, but still worth it. The drinks are really refreshing too.
B. L.
Great cakes, the mont blanc is pretty special. It's just a shame it's not bigger and there aren't more seats to sit and enjoy the wonderful cakes.
J. T.
One of the best cafes serving Japanese patisserie. Would recommend the black sesame latte & Mont Blanc
k. W.
3 cakes, and 3 drinks came to £30. Average overall for the price it cost. One time visit is good enough.
K. C. (.
The sesame cheesecake is very delicious, beyond my expectation. The strawberry shortcake is tasty too. But the matcha latte is bland
J.
High quality cakes that are not-too-sweet, light and melt in your mouth. Could eat two in one go!
G. L.
(25/08) The best matcha latte in London. You can actually taste the matcha and it's not overpowered by the milk.
We tried three different desserts, and all of them were incredibly satisfying. The care that has been taken to produce the product definitely shows, as each cake/pastry was made to perfection. Definitely not overly rich or stodgy, but each bite was heaven.
The cafe was clean, with the toilets being no exception.
The staff were a credit to the cafe and friendly. The service was extremely quick.
A. A.
Hospitable staff, minimal decor, good pastries, earthy drinks
L. C. K.
Small cosy Japanese cafe located between Leicester Square and covent garden. Cakes served are of high quality but portions are quite small for the price point.
C.
It’s expensive, but the cakes are delicious - especially love the matcha roll!
G.
Good for dessert and coffee. But seats are not many
Z. B.
The best Japanese patisserie. Can’t get enough of their black sesame latte (kurogoma latte). Their matcha, chocolate praline and black sesame desserts are great. The melon pan is yummy too.
I. W.
Japanese cafe style. Delicious and healthy. Kids love here.
A. J.
Cakes are delicious. Bit pricey though for the size of the cake slice I got.
G. S. W.
The croissants here are my absolute favourite. Lots of pretty little desserts available too.
G. K.
Cakes are better than the breads, service is so so but not bad, but I don’t find better Japanese or Asian style pastries in London! Note if you order from deliveroo they often can’t complete your order so items were often missing from my orders...
H. L.
strawberry cake Recommend!Cakes are all good ~but a bit overpriced ~
S. N.
The strawberry shortcake is very nice as it is light and fluffy. The sesame cheesecake is also delicious and does not have an overwhelming taste. However the cakes are expensive so it is something you wouldn't have often.
E. S.
Love this place. Delicate and delicious Japanese patisserie. Super attentive and friendly staff. Good presentation. Well worth it. A+
F. A.
Cake and tea are not too bad but the extra charge for eat in is extortionate, they don't even provide wifi...
A. O.
Cakes are good and close to Japanese quality. But I was disappointed to find that the hoji tea they sell there is marked up so high. The hoji tea is wrapped in WA brand paper but when I looked at the tea bags inside it looks like £5-6 tea from any Japanese super market. I bought it for £14 lol
G. L.
Five stars for cake and pastries. Five stars for hospitality. Three stars for coffee.
S. L.
Super packed in the weekends and evenings. This is not a place to relax but a quick tea break and off you go. Eat-in prices are extortionate so I would recommend take-away if you can.
Most cakes and drinks are good and well-presented. There are some unique creations with lovely Japanese flavours, not too sweet/heavy. I like the white sesame cheesecake.
J. T.
Always enjoy the cakes there. You will never be disappointed.
J. H.
Found this little Japanese patisserie by accident. Popped in for a drink & slice of delicious looking cake. I had the chocolate & banana sponge & my partner had the souffle cheesecake with apricot glaze. They were both as good as they looked. Unfortunately we ate them before we thought about taking a photo. Would definitely recommend and will go back if we're in the area.
A. A.
The food is very delicious and the staff are very friendly.
A.
Desserts is great!! Love the staff there 😊 One Japanese girl is really friendly.
B. A.
The strawberry shortcake was really nice. I wasn't a fan of the black sesame latte but others might like it. Staff were very friendly and the service was quick.
S. D.
Something beautiful for people who like desserts. Tasted like it looked, really good.
M. J.
I will give 5stars if it's for the tast/flavour of their products, no doubt!! They are the best patisserie and cutest cafe in London!! But unfortunately, their staff are not so friendly though...
X. L.
Very nice place, match ice tea and match latte are very good!
D. L.
The black sesame coffee was the most amazing coffee I have ever tasted! Cakes were too!
B. K.
Super surprised this cafe has no ratings yet, as its always packed!
Located down a small street near Leicester Square and Covent Garden. It's an oasis, as its a calm quiet Japanese style modern teahouse.
Great for conversations and dates.
The main attraction are their cakes. Their signature is the white sesame cheesecake, and IMO this is the best Japanese cake in London! Hot drinks are also a good choice, including the hojicha lattes and match lattes.
My favourite Jap cafe in London, and I'm torn writing this review as I want to keep this a hidden gem to myself, but also it is so good I want to shout about it. I rarely give 5 stars but this place deserves it!
P. H.
I visited both both branches and ordered a whole cake a few times.
If you don't like typical too much sugarly cakes, this is the right place.
Their cheese cake tastes heavenly as well.
The only issue is it is not cheap !
O. G.
I loved it! Worth visiting it and great japanese treats- @Discoverwithouidad
G. M. (.
My favourite café/patisserie in Central London, definitely must try the matcha tiramisù!
N. Y.
Little place with Japanese cakes, teas and coffees. It's cozy and the cake we tried was delicious. Green tea tasted like real Japanese tea. I will come back but I think it is quite expensive! That's the only bad thing I can say about it.
A. L.
They make the Best Japanese cake in London, especially the white sesame cheesecake, strawberry roll cake, matcha roll cake and Mont Blanc. They are delicious!
T. T.
Pleasant and relaxing Japanese dessert place. Very detailed in service and nice to see Japanese staff employed. Strawberry short recommended 👌 clean and well maintained toilets too.
Z. S.
My favourite Japanese patisserie in London! The old chocolate banana and strawberry shortcake is a must. And their new invention always surprise me :)
H. J. K.
First time at the Covent Garden branch - layout is pretty much the same as the original branch, but it’s definitely a lot more crowded and they don’t have enough chairs. Had the sesame cheesecake, matcha roll and strawberry shortcake - all were very light but delicious. Their tea lattes never disappoint as well. The black sesame latte is also quite unique!
A. R.
Lovely little patisserie with cakes that taste just as nice as they look.
P. U.
The cakes were amazing
K. L. N.
Delicious food and lovely quiet atmosphere for the middle of busy covent garden
M. G.
Staff were friendly and matcha tiramisu was supreme.
G. Q.
Very relaxed and minimalist Japanese coffee shop, small but good quality selection of normal and matcha coffee's and tea's and sweet light desserts. Can be a bit cramped when it's busy, but the decor is calming and simple. Maybe could do with a few more sweet and savoury food selections but apart from that, a good place to sneak into to get out of the busy streets of the Covent Garden area.
V.
The place is super cosy with extremely clean restroom! Like matcha croissant and bun with mochi inside. Would love to have the mint terrace tables back
T. O.
Tl;dr: Get the strawberry shortcake!
No photos unfortunately, as I was so eager to eat my buns/cakes that I forgot and forgoed the precious phototaking moment.
I used to frequent the one down in Ealing Broadway, even though it was on the very end of the Central line - always sniggered to myself that it was my secret little 'Special Find'.
Now that it's in Covent Garden too I'm going to have to share with everyone else.
The cakes never disappoint me - great since they only do a few cakes and boy do they do it well. My all-time favourite is the strawberry shortcake. You haven't lived til you've had a Japanese strawberry shortcake.
I like the matcha roll too, just not as much as I love the SS.
The buns are great too - there's an egg-mayo filling, cornflake-encrusted bun and the other curry-potato-filled soft bun as a savoury option. I personally like the egg-mayo more, probably cos of the cornflakes.
They've got other buns too, red bean buns, matcha buns, etc all nicely packed so you can take a bit of heaven home for tomorrow's breakfast or tonight's little cheat.
P.S. I also tend to get their cakes for birthdays. Did you know they do full size?
M. L.
Not a lot of tables where you can sit at but an overall very cosy atmosphere. Some tables have plugs next to them so you could study/work whilst charging your device. There are more tables and the back of the store. There is also a stamp collecting scheme where you collect 10 stamps they give you a free drink I believe.
F. W.
Love this place. Heaven for Japanese dessert lovers, love matcha 😍
S. T.
Superb Japanese cakes! Fresh, light, fluffy and creamy !
M. S.
The best Japanese cafe in London.
Lovely place ❤️❤️❤️.
E.
Beautiful cozy interior. The strawberry shortcake is amazing—well, all their cakes are amazing tbh. Be sure to try their houjicha, matcha, black sesame lattes served in the most beautiful ceramics.
A.
Great selection of Japanese cakes :)
L. R.
Probably my favourite of all the Japanese cake shops/patisseries in London. I called to save a Mont Blanc for my husband’s birthday, which the staff happily put aside for me. When I went to collect in the evening, they had sold out so I was very lucky, and he was very very happy!
t. j.
yummy desserts and drinks small place so be prepared to wait for a table unless your gonna get a takeaway but it’s worth the wait
A. L.
Neat little Japanese place for dessert, cakes and various type of teas. It was a nice place for a much needed break after a long walk. Very crowed with many young Asian customers.
T. G.
This place is so nice. The staff are so polite. The food was amazing and so was the service. Tried one cocktail and stuck to that because it tasted SO GOOD! Called the hurricane. I would highly recommend this place.
V. K.
DUUUDDEEE! I am not even a fan of coffee or sweets and I love this place!
M. G.
Lovely Japanese patisserie! Closest thing you can find in London to the fancy cakes you can get in a Tokyo patisserie where they took some of our European cakes and made them better!
A. A.
Best strawberry shortcake I’ve tried so far. The iced coffee is good
J. F.
Tried their strawberry shortcake and the sponge was incredibly soft and delicious. The whipped cream was too sweet for me personally though
D. V. C.
Drinks were very good, tried the matcha latte and hojicha with my partner. The cakes were very good and not too sweet.
Only downside was that the tables/space were quite small
N. B.
Very lovely and clean place.
5* rating for not having over sweetened cake.
The prices are to match the location at £4-7 per slice.
Very crowded during the weekend but ideal for a Saturday morning break.
S. K.
I was so excited to try matcha tiramisu. But All i tastes was cream, no matcha flavour at all in it. At least matcha latte was good.
C. S.
The strawberry shortcake was very light and delicious, although a bit pricey.
Drinks were very good too, and served in a nice cup.
T. W.
It's pricey but I think their bakes are worth it....I especially love the Mochi An Pan and Matcha Roll!
H. H.
Very good cakes, slightly overpriced but the setting and service are high quality
J. B.
The staff are very nice. The cakes are very expensive but very good. I tried the Roll Cake and the Short Cake which were both light, fruity and just the right amount of sweet.
d.
A beautiful cafe in Covent Garden. Enjoyed the Tasty matcha tea and a pastry of Matcha😊😊
X. D.
If you like the typical superb Japanese department store food court cakes then you are in the right place. But if you wonder what that is like, then give it try anyways.
L. P.
Cake is normal, but experience has been ruined by lack of queuing system. We came first and were queuing but another party just went straight in and took our spot.
R. R.
Absolutely fantastic Japanese patisserie in Soho, London. I would of uploaded pictures but the cake was so delicious that we finished it too quickly! Thank you.
M. W. N.
Great chill place for aesthetically pleasing cakes. However it is the desserts are on the sweeter side.
C. D.
Yummy cake but sadly there's 1 unfriendly shouty staff 🥺
K. W.
Amazing love it, cakes are sweet but not overly rich, I get a valentine's Day for my wife every year from here and her birthday cake as well
M. K.
Great, atmospheric Cafe shop, lovely cakes and coffee
M. R.
Strawberry roll cake is yummy!
F. A.
Really nice Japanese coffee and closes at 8pm on weekdays.
G. P.
Love the Japanese cake selection here! Not overly sweet and very refreshing. Give the sesame cheesecake a try in particular!
I. A.
Ok , so here is the deal
It is Japanese shop so different taste for cake , tea and coffee
So either you like or you don't like it
Me and my friends, didn't enjoy the drinks ( we try more than one ) , we enjoy some cake ,
The shop itself looks good , staff are very friendly and helpful ( try to advise as much as they can) and seats are comfy
A. L.
Cakes are very fine and delicate! But the shop decorations are bit too plain, no character.
S. S.
Covent Garden. Modern cool, calm, uncluttered Japanese style patisserie. Offering very rich and utterly indulgent treats😋. One cake and hand drip coffee £9.20
R. C.
Omg, I loved their berry cheesecake! It tastes amazing!! It is quite a small place but cozy!
r. r.
if this place has a down side then it can only be that's it's very busy most of the time
n. f.
It's incredible! Loved it
l. h.
Lovely cosy place, very clean, cakes are nice and light but a bit pricey.
Staff were nice but I do think more training is needed as the service was so so.
I. K.
Probably the best cheesecake there is in town. The black sesame cheesecake is to die for. The space is very small it’s better to get it to go!
G. Y.
Delicious cakes. The strawberry shortcake and Sakura (cherry blossom) cake were beautiful!
S. 쏘.
most gorgeous Japanese style cakes and patisserie, perfect for birthdays or even just a small snack
A. Y.
Good fluffy cake, exactly the same as I had in Japan, especially the strawberry short cake, the classic Japanese strawberry cake!
M. B.
The cream pan's are soo good!
S. S.
Lovely cafe with nice staff. However they didnt have any vegan/animal free options which I thought was very disappointing.
a. m.
Very nice place good quality of cake staff is very friendly i reccomend to try the mount blanc chestnut cake fab fab fab
J. M.
Had a sandwich, which was excellent. Too much single use plastic is in use though, paper bags / cardboard serving boxes would have made it 5*
P. M.
Love the matcha cake and croissant
A. S.
It's a nice place where to pretend you eat/drink Japanese specialities. Quite expensive though. Two teas, almost 9£.
H. L.
I never disappointed ♥︎ my favourite is strawberry-shortcake and matcha roll cake :) friendly staff and good location.
M. M.
Delicious food, cozy atmosphere, nice stuff! Exactly what I was hoping for.

Cakes are really nice but far too expensive...I would have given 4 stars but anything that requires excessive sugar isn’t that good.
D. C.
Really like their cakes! Especially the white sesame cheesecake that I decided to get another takeaway too!
M. V.
Everytime i've been here I've tried a different dessert. I haven't found one I don't like yet!

I highly recommend: egg sandwiches and black sesame latte!

(Translated) Although it is Japanese style, it's too easy to follow the customs when it is opened in the UK (referring to sweetness). The croissant is made of black sesame seeds. I was surprised because I thought it was chocolate when I picked it. The aroma was quite strong. The matcha is a bit disappointing. It doesn't have the taste of Japanese matcha at all. I don't know which matcha powder is used. It is similar to mochi and feels a lot of saccharin. Picture 3 can only say that only the white sugar on the surface appeared. Considering the price, I feel that the price-performance ratio is really not good. It can be expensive, but it can’t be expensive and average.

(Translated) The Japanese-style dessert shop near Covent Garden is staffed by Japanese people. It must be said that the three stars are the scores of similar desserts in Taiwan and Japan; London is one of the few stores that reproduce Japanese desserts.
Dessert We ordered the matcha roll and the strawberry cake. The drink was made with tea latte and matcha latte. The dessert performance was quite satisfactory. The taste of the matcha roll was not rich but not sweet. The strawberry cake had a distinct strawberry sauce and cream. Slightly greasy mouth is not a refreshing taste: the taste of tea and latte is heavier than that of charcoal; the taste of matcha latte matcha is quite light, and the aroma and taste of matcha is insufficient. The cake price is about 5 pounds and the drink is about 3-4 pounds.

Recently, there are many cherry desserts because of the cherry blossom season! Matcha rolls and sakura rolls are delicious! The decoration of cherry blossoms is also very beautiful!
