If you like high quality food and a place with a vibe,
come here to find your tribe.
Not even sure how may I start this place to describe,
but before I do, like, comment, follow, subscribe.
Plates are designed for sharing you will see,
so instead of ordering for me, go for we.
Variety for meat lovers, plant eaters and diet cheaters.
For the flavour curious, the beer drinkers and for the plate repeaters.
Staff and service is outstanding,
I guess it becomes even part of the restaurant branding,
make sure to make a reservation so they don’t leave you standing,
and be ready to claim that this place has been your finding.

Perfect stop for lunch on our cycle ride. Sat outside with space for bikes nearby. Great meze style menu with plenty of small options that were great for our need.
I’ve visited previously and would recommend to anyone. Great vibe in restaurant and they even sell their handmade pottery.
D. W.
An updated menu since we last visited is now very different to what it used to be and once you've figured out what the dishes are the options are surprisingly varied. Fresh bread, great combination of flavours and textures and always pleasant service makes us come back over and over again.
F. R.
Ambiently lit, food heavily salted, great selection of drinks and cocktails. Brownie let them down, cakey with not quite the right ratio of brownie to ice cream. Excellent espresso

An excellent place for food or coffee . We met at 6pm mid week and easily got a table but it filled up later . The portions are perfect sizes and cooked to perfection ! The place has been recently refurbished in great taste . 100% recommend .
C. L.
One of my favourite places in Newcastle, certainly my favourite cafe. Amazing hot drinks, good beer, great small dishes. Extremely cosy and atmospheric, staff and owners are fantastic, as well as the pottery.
P. R.
Had several loaves of sourdough from here to takeaway during lockdown and it's the best bread I've ever had. Their cakes are absolutely delicious and twice the size you'd usually get for the price. Recently also visited the lemonade stand where they had a great set up for outdoor drinks. Service is always impeccable.

We had a wonderful meal here and the service was very attentive. Everything was really tasty, the only small downside was the chicken was a bit dry. But everything was so nice, we didn't mind too much!
M. C. W.
Went in and got a table with ease, the lad who came to us for a drinks and food order was polite and pleasant to speak to and very helpful with my allergen needs. The meal I asked about, chicken with bacon and cheese, was beautifully cooked. I am allergic to ingredients in bbq sauce and found the meal to be fresh and no trace of sauce in sight.
Everything was perfect and we definitely will be returning returning our favourite place again soon! 😁

One of my favourite places in Newcastle. Delicious food, tasty cocktails, great selection of hot drinks. Staff is very helpful and friendly.
A. N.
One of those places where everything is just a bit better than you expect from the understated menu, e.g. " Tahini cauliflower" side is roasted leaves on with hazelnuts. Great attention to detail and really well balanced spices in the giant couscous accompanying the stand-out 16hr lamb shoulder. Good value for the quality of the cooking and prep.
C.
Only had a coffee & a tea, but the restaurant was warm & cosy & the prices weren’t too bad.
E. C.
New menu - huge portions- great value. Lovely glass of cold water with lemon on sitting down followed by the quick follow up with our drinks order. When the food arrived it was fresh and delicious. If you want some bespoke handmade pottery - The pottery is really fairly priced for the quality of the work. The staff were friendly and helpful in finding us a seat (it was so busy). NB I know there have been some mixed reviews and our own experience was great - I can confirm there did not seem to be a consistent service as the people who sat beside us did not get a glass of water, the chap took their drinks order and it took the woman to ask them again before they got anything - she had to apologise for the delay. This is purely a training /organisation issue which I am sure they will iron out. Don’t let this put you off!
P. S.
Wonderful spot. Great service. Knowledgeable barman - fab cocktails and the food…fresh, tasty and fab for sharing
H. T.
Iced mocha and chocolate cake were average. Ambiance and deco were alright. Could do with some AC especially during summer.
S. N.
Cozy atmosphere, and the dishes are served in Kiln’s own ceramics - ties everything together quite nicely. A Newcastle gem!
D. B.
I really wanted to give this place the full 5, but it was just lacking slightly in something which is paramount to me, customer service. We waited at the door for quite some time despite there being ample staff on hand, and we had to repeat what we ordered for dessert, don't get me wrong though the staff were nice and friendly. Food was different and nice, enjoyed it. I liked how the menu was viewable online only however this might put off the oldies. Love the fact you could buy the pottery however 1 plate was £40 so unfortunately could not justify it, lol. Cozy place with outdoor seating as well.
S. C.
Had a fab experience here first time visit and very pleasantly surprised. Service was very welcoming and breakfast was very good and different from you usual if you are looking to try something slightly different. I'd say this would be more for the health conscious. Pricing I thought was very good too. Awesome coffee and atmosphere was fab. Also doggy 🐕 friendly too
J. B.
Excellent food and really friendly. Pro tip: take your phone, because the menu is a in the form of QR barcode on the table which you'll need to scan...
O. B.
Can't recommend this place highly enough. Incredibly food and a great vibe. Being next to The Valley Bouldering Centre is the icing on the cake.
Z. T.
Friendly staff, nice rustic ambience and honestly the carrot cake muffin was the most incredible muffin I've ever eaten. Pillowy soft, moist, and with a lovely crumb topping. Highly recommended. The huevo rancheros tasted more like a shakshuka with hash, but it was still pretty good. Food prices are reasonable as well. Will definitely come back again
r. m.
Simply fantastic, great atmosphere and great food......dont tell anyone or we wont be able to get a table in the future
J. F.
Absolutely outstanding service, extremely helpful staff and the food has been perfectly prepared each time I've dined here!
C. D.
Great place, had a nice chilled atmosphere and a good beer selection. Staff are friendly and helpful, the food options look great - we'll definitely be returning to sample a few things off the menu. It has a small outside area which is a cracking sun trap. It's dog friendly too - can't wait to go back 😀🐶👍
K. R. S.
Really good place! The food is amazing, really tasty and the presentation is beautiful. I tried the chicken Manakiesh and was excellent! I recommend order without chili if you don't like spice.
K. H.
I was rooting for you Tiffany, we were all rooting for you. Kiln seemed like the perfect cute coffee shop, and the brunches looked gorgeous, but I'd recommend just sticking to the coffee there.
I think it may have just been an off day at Kiln, but the egg dishes we ordered came out a bit tasteless with getting to be cold eggs (not a nice texture with a poached egg), and part of one order was wrong. When we left we got an order of hummus to go, which none of the staff seemed to know was on the menu (again, an off day?), and was given it in a paper coffee cup with a sipping lid (not completely sealed). When we tried it later it didn't seem seasoned at all (although the freshness and texture were good!), but after we added our own seasonings it made for a solid spread.
All being said, the location itself is beautiful, the made-in-house pottery used for everything served is lovely, and the atmosphere is gorgeous. Just don't get the eggs.
S. A.
Tried this restaurant a few times, it's delicious. Highly recommended. Good fish dishes, I enjoyed the lamb and the cakes for after, all worth it. They also allow dogs, a huge plus.
S. J.
The best seat on the house!
Warm and comfortable atmosphere and brilliant service.
Amy was a great host.
A. G.
Hidden gem in ouseburn, great beers and even better food with a focus on sharing platters. Also well known for its fresh baked bread and artisan pottery. All round - well worth a regular visit!
C. T.
Such a beautifully quaint little place to grab a beverage or have a bite. Chill with a coffee for the afternoon. Delicious food, great beer selection. The dishes are stunning and you can watch them being made! Super cool spot.
D. H.
Stunning food, gorgeous venue.
P. B.
Dog friendly.
An awesome find and well worth travelling out of your way for.
Draught beers Moretti, Heineken and Orchard Thieves Cider.
Food looks and smells outstanding, will need a return visit to try it for sure.
Cool outdoor are too.
R. B.
I visited for the first time today and it was amazing, coolest place in Newcastle by far! Great food, great service, great pottery.
E. S.
Delicious food, great ambience but slow service let it down. The staff were friendly and helpful when we managed to get their attention but on more than one occasion that entailed getting up and going to find someone ourselves.
C. H.
As always cosy, warm, with a great atmosphere. Weather you be meeting friends or going for a date, kiln is definitely worth the visit!
M. D.
Exciting food in an unusual setting
T. B.
Wonderfully designed dining and drinking space, great atmosphere and a brilliant daytime menu. Looking forward to returning.
K. S.
Really enjoyed our chilled child free afternoon! Nice food (sharing platter, shackshuka), good selection of drinks and cool setting.
Being able to see the staff in the back actually make the plates you're eating off is pretty cool, parking is limited, but you can easily park in ouseburn and walk along!
And dog friendly for those with 4 legged friends
G. R.
Great little bar/cafe in a great area of town. Was busy when we went, but had a great atmosphere. Staff were friendly. Will definitely go again
L. M.
We happened to be passing and dropped in for a quick bite to eat. Omg, it was great. The food felt really quite rustic and so so tasty. Loved the place and highly recommend.
T. S.
Delicious mezza and super friendly, kind staff. Would definitely come back
M. A.
The best restaurant ever👌🏻
G. B.
Great venue, lovely staff and top notch scran. Good selection of drinks and tasty coffee.
Well out of my way but totally worth the travel for being so good.

Amazing food, friendly service and a great place for business meetings
S. C.
Delicious. Again. Their roast potatoes with aioli is frankly a thing of beauty!
l. l.
Great food and atmosphere, quick service. I went after seeing a great review about the Mediterranean sharing board which was discontinued the week before which was a shame.

Dear Team,
Just a note to say how wonderful dining with you was last night.
Atmosphere was fab.
Service was just the right style of casual, the staff are very informative enthusiastic and extremely pleasant. My wine decision was guided by the waitresses favourite tipple which she kindly allowed me to try beforehand, she also guided us through the menu perfectly.
Our food was selection was delicious, we ordered the lamb kofta which we were informed was sold out, the waitress told us the chef would like to give us a lamb alternative which was so well cooked and very juicy with flavour. He then popped over to see how are dishes where, we enjoyed a great conversation with him about wine food travel. In conversation we discussed the corn dish and how it could be adapted, chef proceeded to head back in the kitchen and put together exactly what we had been chatting about. This attention to customers and engaging convention between us and your delightful chef and staff made the whole experience really enjoyable and left us wanting so much more. Will we be back! We also love the idea of chefs table!
Thank you for having us!

Amazing! The most wonderful meal , service and just an all round brilliant evening. So good to be back. Love love love this place possibly my number 1 eating place in Newcastle !
t. t.
Can't recommend this place enough, the quality of food and the amount you get is well worth the price, the service we received was top notch. I WILL be back again.
D. L.
Enjoyed the food , flavours were lovely, good atmosphere.
Helpful friendly staff, but the service a little slow and could have been quicker. Find the prices on the expensive side just for a lunch.
M. I.
Tried the pistachio croissant and a cappuccino. Absolutely gorgeous, friendly staff.
K. M.
Lovely staff, nice food and great drinks.
Proper trendy atmosphere
S. H.
First time I've been since the easing of lockdown. So we'll organized and spaced out. Great use of a online menu. Jasmine tea and lavender cake were amazing. The land food platter looked superb. Definitely going back soon!
f. g.
Shared some small plates at Kiln today and it was a real surprise.
Hummus was delicious, deep fried cauliflower, fabulous and the Egyptian pitta best I have had in a long time.
We eyed passing plates with envy and shall definitely return to try the kebab.
A definite good food experience with tip top service, friendly and efficient.
C. M.
The staff here are fantastic, and the environment is so warm, welcoming and fresh it's fantastic. Dog friendly (all the best places are, obvs), and I've been told the place has fantastic food, but we haven't had that yet. That's next time. Anyway, lush staff, great atmosphere, excellent drinks, so give it a go. But save us a space, it's dinky!
J. W.
Great variety of options and the quality is first class. I tried the fried cauliflower and Moroccan chicken salad. Great location and styling of the place is really cool. Would recommend to anyone passing through Newcastle upon Tyne.
J. P.
Great food, great service by delighightful friendly staff.
W. T.
Great service and a lovely warm, relaxing atmosphere. Excellent quality wine, the cocktails looked impressive and a little bit different. The food was really delicious too.
T. D.
Food, coffee and service were all great. Ordered a pint of Gamma Ray and at £6.25 is the most I've ever seen it be sold for across the country. Feel like that should come with a warning.
N. M.
Utterly wonderful food. Good but not intrusive service. Can't wait for my next visit.
J. M.
Very pleasant venue with an interesting menu and charming staff
G. B.
Lovely spot of lunch this afternoon, will definitely be back soon
E.
The food was lovely and the staff very friendly. It's great to see Kiln using an online menu which you get onto your phone by scanning the QR code on your table. If you get the chance to try the lemon meringue, trust me it will not disappoint!
A. I.
Speak as I find.... The latte was lovely and the Cranberry scone was beautiful. The menu looked very interesting with lunch and evening options. The place is licensed and they sell a range of craft beers as well as all the usual thing's. We will definitely come back for a meal. The interior is done out in a interesting way with a glass partition through which, you can see the ceramics being made. Recommend you give it a try.
s. k.
Nice ambience (if you’re in to that kind of thing haha) good food, super fast service and friendly staff, not too expensive. Deffo be back 👍🏽 only slight criticism.. the menu is a bit vague, wasn’t sure exactly what I was ordering with certain dishes.
I. J. C.
My son already knew about this place and decided it was somewhere different to take me to for a Mother's Day treat. I was not disappointed! Lovely atmosphere, service excellent and cinnamon rolls and coffee...both very tasty. Do not be put off by the, not very inviting, entrance. You'll be pleasantly surprised, once inside🤗
M. S.
Great bar/bistro hidden away in an old warehouse/garage. Has the feel of a New York warehouse apartment with a glass wall into the pottery. Good selection of beers, wines and coffees. Small but excellent vegetarian menu which changes daily depending on what's in season. Good cake and sweets options also available. Beer garden to the side which catches the afternoon/evening sun
P. J. W.
Great new cafe bar in the Ouseburn, with a delicious vegetarian menu and working pottery with kiln on-site. Definitely worth checking out!
T. E.
TEMPORARILY CLOSED TILL JAN 10, 2019, while being refurbished. Beautiful place though, when I visited a week ago. Gorgeous cups & plates, nice strong coffee, friendly staff, and tasty food. That said, I won't give it 5 stars as the eggs in my shakshuka were way overcooked, even after I'd expressly asked for runny or at least soft yolks, which is a fairly standard request in a restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed the place though, and I was in fact just trying to visit it again, but the ongoing renovations scuppered that plan.
S. T.
Kiln is excellent - the sharing plates are incredible, beautiful ceramics and a good selection of beers. Not too cheap on the booze side, but that seems to be a general Ouseburn trend, besides you definitely get what you pay for here.
Recently called in for brunch and they were even giving out free custard tarts, which was a nice touch. Pleasantly surprised by the coffee too - having spent a number of years in the specialty coffee industry I'm often dubious about the coffee in places where staff have to be both bartenders and baristas, but these guys nailed it.
B. H.
Great place to get a drink and hangout with friends. We were there on a trivia night, however, the bartenders still took really good care of us even though we were not participating. Absolutely love the atmosphere of this bar.
a. h.
Great beer, good vegetarian Mediterranean food, great casual vibe with good music. Very friendly staff. Enormous loo!! (Which could be a minus if I was queueing for it since it's the only one). They make there own crockery in the attached pottery which is cool. All round great place
J.
Amazing food and service and unbelievably priced for what you're getting.
K. S.
Really enjoyed our afternoon! Nice food (sharing platter), good selection of drinks and cool setting
P. i. M. M. L.
Great food and friendly staff!
J. R.
Distinctly less-than-average burnt-tasting coffee and dry, powdery cake. If you like a place with lovely surroundings amidst a dusty, noisy industrial building site with plenty of wow factor - including hot drinks served in milk jugs and food on ceramic tiles, but you don’t care for the taste and flavour of the things you buy - then you’ll almost certainly love this place. Perhaps next time I’ll stick to a can of beer from their amply stocked chiller and watch the rest of my group eating and drinking... the only snag is that I don’t drink.
D. P.
Excellent coffee in beautiful, chilled surroundings. Friendly and efficient staff. Good choice of beers and other drinks. Didn't have food but menu looked good and meals going to other tables looked great.
J. A.
Lovely atmosphere and unique interesting venue.
Food is always wonderful and well crafted and serves up a good quality coffee which is rare.
May be a little out of the way for some, but worth the visit.
E. 9.
Stuck between recommending this little gem of a place to everyone and wanting to keep it a secret. Lovely staff, chilled vibe, food was tasty and creative without being annoyingly pretentious...well worth the climb up and down that big hill. The odd review mentions not having the best experience to those I’d say it’s worth going back again.
J. M.
Delicious food, lovely environment/ambience and friendly staff. Roasted harissa cauliflower and sourdough are amazing 👏😋
R. B.
What a fantastic experience! Staff amazing and food absolutely yummy. I enjoyed every minute and would highly recommend you find this hidden jem. Watching the working potters was a bonus.
N. F.
New place but really nice. Simple home cooked menu all vegetable which tasted yummy. Good place for a meet up for coffee. A works lynch or an after work drink. Small friendly and cosy. Oh n by the way, they make clay pots n stuff too! 😀
J. H.
-1 star for getting the order wrong and arguing the fact. The drinks and food we ended up with was very good however; a sharing plate of humous and bits followed by treacle pud and ice cream, all vegan, all delicious.
C. M.
A fabulous cup of coffee and some belter grub to go along side. Outdoor area is great and relaxed.
G. K.
The best! Delicious food and good vibes all round. In the summer there's space to sit outside and in the winter there's a cosy woodburner. The staff are top-notch, and it's a delight to eat and drink from the beautiful ceramics, which you can watch being made through the glass wall between the cafe and the pottery.
D. C.
Fantastic place to eat friendly staff good food
B. T.
I adore this place. The food is delicious and cooked with love. Superb vegetarian options, lovely staff and a properly nice place to be.

Nice setting, but super slow service. Staff need a rocket up their back side.
You’d be sacked if I was boss.

J. M. F.
So glad you're back open! Really good arrangements for distancing whilst indulging in gorgeous coffee and too tempting cakes!
J. R.
Maybe not my scene in the grand scheme of things, but having been for several beers over a couple of sessions in recent weeks, I would definitely say this is a great place to be. The naff lockdown restrictions mean it's outside only for the craic (for now) but the venue has done their best with simple seating arrangements and it's reasonably sheltered on one side from the wind too. The vibe is top. Minimal bulbs seem to frequent the place which is always a bonus. The grafters are friendly and work hard shipping the beers out, and get you seated as quickly as possible when you rock up. Head along and try the joint.
C. C.
Really nice ambience and they will make you any cocktail on request, even if it's off menu
N. Y.
Food is insane. Staff are very friendly. If you gunna try anything get the Garlic dip, your life will be changed forever

(Translated) It is a unique and very nice place where a cozy cafe & restaurant and a pottery workshop are in harmony. You can try and purchase unique ceramic tableware that can only be found in Kiln, and you can spend time looking at the inner working site of the ceramics workshop. If you come to Newcastle, we recommend you to stop by!
