Reviews of The Blacksmith's Coffee Shop
L. N.
Not a bad coffee shop. Limited cake/dessert offerings, but they were tasty. Seating area inside and outside were also clean and good. The views across the countryside were great (it was a sunny day!).
I did like the bottomless filter coffee option.
Z. B.
What a little find after being wet and cold. The staff were absolutely lovely. The sandwich was fresh as was the home made cake which was delicious and the coffee hit the spot to warm us up. Would really recommend finding this place.
C. F.
Lovely and clean place for a bite to eat when out on a cycle staff very friendly ,Deffo would go back ! We sat outside and had poached eggs, bacon on toast and a cup of coffee
M. W.
A regular visitor to this lovely Coffee shop.
Highly recommend either the Cheese & Bacon Scones or a crispy Bacon bun served with a mug of coffee of which you get a free refill.
Highly recommend
C. H.
First visit here and it certainly won't be the last, friendly staff, excellent choice of food, plenty of seating area and the views outside are amaxong
I. W.
A cosy, friendly coffee shop, serving good quality coffee and home baking close to Belsay castle and gardens. Good quality Bacon sandwiches available am only.
I. W.
First visit. Very nice cafe with lovely views. Good selection of food and drink, staff friendly and place nice and clean. Had logburner in place, so on a chilly day will be nice and snug.
J. B.
Very much a premium coffee shop and can be busy at times. The food's good, but it can take a little while to arrive depending on how busy it is. Pro tip: parking is at a premium, so be prepared.
S. L.
Lovely outdoor space, great view.
The food is homemade and very delicious! Quiches excellent, salads fresh, tea strong and a mixed berry pie with custard that I’m still dreaming about!! I’ll be back soon to try the rest of the menu
C. H.
The quiche and panini was lovely and reasonably priced. Well worth a stop for a lunch. The scones looked the business, might try them later.
P. G.
Took a drive out to the Blacksmiths at Belsay and had a lovely quiche and salad with a good cup of coffee very enjoyable. Staff are very cheerful and helpful carrying my tray to the table as I have mobility problem .
R. P.
Stopped while cycling. Clientele is almost exclusively elderly people and cyclists, and serves them both very well. Good food and coffee at decent prices. Lovely outdoor seating on a nice day.
R. B.
Had the homemade quiche. It was delicious.
Canned drinks were a little expensive, but food was reasonably priced for how tasty it was.
M. B.
Honestly the best scone I’ve had since my grandmother passed. Light and fluffy and just perfection. The coffee and atmosphere at the Blacksmiths Coffee Shop was just what this weary traveller needed. They were closing soon when I arrived but were friendly and happy to serve me. The shop and surroundings are stunning, the jam is lush and handmade and the cream is proper thick whipped cream … not that aerated stuff from a can.
R. F.
Fantastic local cafe. Lots of lovely cakes and fresh local produce. Great afternoon teas too
I. B.
Always our first stop when we get off the dfds Ferry and drive to Scotland
M. M.
Lovely setting excellent food spotlessly clean fast service
B. L.
Superb home cooked pastries
A good coffee
And tea
I went back twice in one day
N. W.
Lovely cozy interior with a roaring log burner for a windy, cold day. With a straightforward menu. Lovely soup, cheese scone and bacon sandwich for us. Friendly and helpful staff. Only downside was that it is not dog friendly.
H. S.
This coffee shop is utterly delightful. Everything tastes light, fresh and homemade. The service is efficient while retaining a sense of welcoming homeliness. What a lovely find while passing by. Our mushroom quiche and apple and berry pie were just excellent.
h. c.
Good service and great quiche and cheese scones. Couldn't see if dogs were allowed. For that reason 4 stars however there are plenty of tables outside and water bowls provided
S. N.
Friendly and cozy spot with a lovely view. Soy milk alternative available
S. W.
Excellent little cafe, good service and friendly staff. Food was spot on and good selection.
Also has some great views from the garden/pick-nick area, will be back soon 👍
R. F.
Best flat white coffee I've had in ages. Delicious Hummingbird cake. Others had a cheese scone, fruit tart, tray bakes and everyone highly rated the food.
B. M.
Beautiful cafe with an excellent range of home cooked food
S. R.
Ohhh! The best Bacon and egg pie anywhere, ever.😘😋
P. J.
Really nice sitting outside with a lovely view , coffee and scones delicious and a good varied menu to choose from back up by very courteous staff
O. A.
Prawns Marie Rose sandwich delicious. We recommend the corned beef pie and the soup. cake was lovely. I enjoyed the pickle pickle (tomato pickle)
M. S.
This is a popular cafe and it's easy to see why. Great food nicely prepared and friendly staff. Worth a visit. Parking can be a challenge sometimes. Maybe that's why it's popular with cyclists.
S. D.
Everything a coffee shop should be. Lovely well maintained surroundings in beautiful countryside, tables are well spaced inside and out. The very tempting menu includes bacon rolls, eggs, smoked salmon, various pies and quiches, excellent scones, cake and plenteous coffee, teas and soft drinks, served with grace, efficiency and friendliness. Spotlessly clean, Covid management in no way detracts from the hospitality on offer. Popular with bikers, ladies who lunch, young, old, all are welcomed.
C. M.
Nice place for tea and cake. Families, kids, cyclists, pets everyone will feel a warm welcome.
B. T.
Nice fare and lovely staff. Sit indoors or outside if weather is okay.
J. K.
Coffee and cake very tasty and good quality.
Coffee and tea, both good.Took last available table. Crowded but clean.
Today coffee and scone, excellent.
G. A.
Lovely coffee shop with stunning views but food very expensive
M. F.
Lovely little place to stop on a cycle ride. Nice outdoor seating area to make it possible to have a sit down meal during current restrictions. Delicious raspberry pie :)
G. M.
Lovely location. Warm, welcoming staff. Superb coffee and a cherry scone that was more cherry than scone. Fantastic. Add in butter and the raspberryest raspberry jam I have ever had and I almost had a calorie conscience. Almost!
N. G.
Delicious coffee, cake and a wonderful view. We will return again when passing.
J. W.
LOVELY CAFE IN A BEAUTIFUL LOCATION. STAFF ARE SUPER FRIENDLY AND DELICIOUS FOOD CHOICES. PLENTY OF OUTSIDE SEATING FOR DOG OWNERS OR ALFRESCO LOVERS AND COZY INTERIOR WITH REAL FIRE .
R.
Nice cafe with friendly service. Had soup and sandwiches, both were delicious. Will definitely go again. Would recommend. 👌 …
P. G.
Great selection of savoury and sweet items, good coffee, friendly staff and plenty of space. Looking forward to a return visit.
P. D.
Lovely country setting with fab coffee and cake. Perfect for a summers day and if the weather is on the cooler side the indoor log burner looks very welcoming to.
D. P.
Good food, well worth a visit
R. W.
Lovely place for a Lunch with friends. Really friendly staff.
G.
Fab little place.... very busy, so they must be doing something right 👍
A. S.
This place has adapted with the ebbs and flows of covid-19 restrictions and has remained consistently fab, even this month when they are only allowed to sell takeaways. I can't wait for a time when I can use this as one of my favourite cycle destinations again and sit out in the garden in the sunshine to enjoy the wonderful baking and a great coffee.
j. o.
Poached eggs on toast with ham always very tasty and fresh. Sat on the tables outside which has a great view of the fields.
Amazing cakes.
Gets very busy with elderly people during the week.
Many cyclists stop here.
Lots of parking.
Very kind staff.
Belsay hall nearby
K. M.
Its great to see they take the pandemic very seriously - service still ace despite all the new measures that are required. This sometimes effects service but this is understandable. The BLT is outstanding something I keep telling the staff about, let alone all their other cakes and pastries, its worth having a look at some of their local produce too. This is often a passing place for cycling clubs so bear in mind the lycra!
M. R.
Always try to call in on journey from Hertfordshire to Peebles. Just made it this time 15 minutes before closing time but staff couldn't have been more welcoming and made us feel they had all the time in the world to look after us. Lovely lemon and almond slice and millionaire's shortbread. Took another cake each to enjoy later!
T. W.
Lovely cafe, had the soup with cheese scone, very tasty!
k. w.
Stopped for lunch after Shafto Crags walk, a very cozy coffee shop with a great service. Lots of homemade cakes on offer, which looked rather yummy. I've opted for a roasted red pepper and tomato soup with rather delicious cheese scone which I enjoyed thoroughly. Coffee was very good too. Amazing views over the fields. Will be visiting again very soon :)
T. J.
Warm and welcoming, delicious panini. The tea is a very deep bitter taste definitely needs some water added.
p. g.
Super friendly service and atmosphere spot on as always
t. r.
Always love to visit here for a nice afternoon Cuppa ! And a lovely selection of cakes , or even poached eggs on toast yummy ! Scones are so tasty too , staff are so nice , always helpful , nice cozy fires in winter too , but summer u can sit outside looking across fab scenery , a real nice place to go for a treat! 😋 …
K. v.
Food is fresh, well-prepared and well-presented. They serve morning coffee, scones, cake, light lunches. The service was, however, frustratingly slow.
M. S.
Delightful afternoon tea with husband and in-laws -tea with scones and jam. Delicious and just what we needed on a rainy day. The views across the fields - including new lambs- were lovely.
V. P.
Amazing place , with the most gorgeous food baked on site , can also take away . And lovely friendly staff who carnt do enough for you .
C. C.
Popular brunch/lunch cafe, very popular with local cyclists. Good quality wholesome food at reasonable prices, in a nice rural setting.
S. W.
A quaint little place, full of custom, serving homemade cakes and drinks. Worth a stop en route to Scotland as they have toilets too.
l. l.
Lovely place great views but why on earth do the not open windows .... hands , face, space, ventilation they have a lovely fire going so it's not going to be cold .....
G. G.
Delicious coffee served just as I asked for. The bacon and egg pie was great. Just like the best homemade pie you could imagine.
L. L.
It is very homely the staff are very welcoming We have visited it quite a few time before lockdown We heard they had reopened for takeaways We where not disappointed My husband and I had Bacon sandwiches followed by their delicious scones
P. C.
Great stop off after Belsay castle and garden's very nice helpful staff very quiet, enjoyable coffee and cakes
T. M.
Have driven past here many times but today was my first visit and certainly will not be my last. Covid measures in place. Had cheese scone and cappuccino. Both were super!
e. H.
Very pleasant atmosphere. Good food. Lovely staff
J. s.
Good outdoor space nice food
P. G.
A pleasant coffee and tea room, very popular with the grey money brigade. Having visited many times before we knew arriving early we would beat the lunch time rush. We ordered lunch consisting of bacon and egg pie and salad. Soup of the day with fresh brown bread. And tea. Very nice. My only criticism would be some of the clientele having been there before us and having finished their beverages before we sat down, persisted to sit and talk when the place was extremely busy and people were having to be turned away. Very selfish..They were still there when we left after 45 minutes.
T. C.
Great location with outdoor seating for those warm days, as well as cosy fire heated seating inside for cooler days.
Good selection of home baking, scones, cakes, hot and cold meals, and good coffee, all at reasonable prices.
Friendly and poy staff.
Highly recommend.
A. P.
This is a lovely place at any time of year. It's great to be able to look out at the countryside while having your food and drink. The staff are really nice. The food and drink is good, too.
E. D.

B. E.

S. H.
Probably THE best scones on the planet, free coffee refills, ginger cake is to die for, dog friendly, (outside). As a café connosier one of my all-time favourites. Unfortunately far too many people have discovered little haven :(
L. B.
Lovely cozy in front of fire on a cold crisp afternoon , lovely light fresh scone, clotted cream would have been nice instead of squirty cream, free fill up of filter coffee.
A. S.
A lovely, popular little café with plenty of good choices on the menu. Cosy on a cold November day
A. M.
On one of these cloudless, warm days, I went out to see the recently formed Belsay Woodland Burial site, and was welcomed and told all about this new enterprise. The set up looks fabulous, set as it is, nestled next to the castle estate. With so many amenities: the village, quarry garden, castles, tea shop all so close, it would be a stimulating experience for families to go when visiting the grave site. Most impressive!
L. B.
Love to pop in here whenever passing, food is always delicious
H. L.
