Reviews of Missing Bean Turl St
K. K.
Great coffee, lovely service and banger of a ham and cheese sandwich. Couldn't find a menu online ahead of time, but they had three savoury food options at the counter and a few more sweet baked goods in the shop window. Came for the food/coffee though stayed for the eavesdropping and people-watching.

The weather was rainy and chilly when we visited Oxford, so we really needed some hot drink to warm up our body. When we walked by The Missing Bean, we were appealed by the crowd in the store so we decided to give it a try.
The decor is narrow-spaced with limited seating but the ambiance is pretty cozy. There are lots of students gathering there with coffee & pastries. We had their hot latte, the taste was decent and the best thing for me was it’s super hot which was a must for me, especially in this chilly day.
T. M.
Food here is great! Can’t recommend the little quiches enough. Went to kill some time before heading back to the train station and has a lovely window seating and outdoors area to enjoy the weather. Friendly staff and cafe merch for sale ❤️

The Missing Bean at Turl Street has been my home away from home while studying as rad at Oxford. I have spent numerous hours people watching from its windows, meeting friends, and frantically writing essays with the perfect cup of coffee and a warm smile to cheer me up. Its a student favorite for good reason: there are plenty of delicious pastries and food choices, numerous drinks (hot and cold, and lots of milk alternative options), and even an outdoor patio for summer time.
On my last day I did my final walk around the streets of Oxford and of course I had to stop by for my last latte, but I didn’t expect to be so deeply impacted when saying goodbye to the staff there, I won’t go into detail but they are truly a wonderful bunch and I won’t ever forget the act of kindness I experienced there that made my final day. Hope to return soon!

Beautiful side street location, fantastic quality coffee and delicious food (the Spiced Carrot + Clementine cake was superb). Really great vibe and a cute little suntrap.
E. T.
Good quality of coffee and friendly staff! I went two times in a row there, when I visited Oxford for a weekend, because whenever I find a nice coffee shop, I get obsessed.😂 Next time I am revisiting Oxford, I know where to go!
M. Q.
We ordered a cinnamon bun and a plain croissant.Pretty average croissant, Cinnamon bun recommended if you want something balanced-coffee pretty moderate
K. C.
Lovely place to stop in for some tasty coffee and pastries. The staff was friendly and the place was cozy without being crowded.
G. Y. T.
decent coffee. nice environment. din try the snacks or food though.
N. M.
I visited the Missing Bean on my trip to Oxford to do a bit of reading and relax. The atmosphere was extremely cozy and welcoming, and the staff were super friendly and attentive!! The coffee was just phenomenal, had to treat myself to a second cup to go ☺️✨
N. Y.
Good quality of coffee☕️, fresh food and pastry 🥐
P. S.
The first real good coffee I got in Oxford, if you miss tasty coffee, come here!! 😋
N. F.
A regular for reading and resting in the middle of a busy day. Lovely to sit outside and watch Oxford walk up and down one of its loveliest streets, coffee in hand.
P. W.
Great place for morning coffee and a croissant...with a buzzy atmosphere and warm welcome. There’s a quick turnover of sit-down clientele as well as a constant stream of take-away customers. The place is modern and hip. It’s accessible on street level for those with push chairs and less able people. There seems to be no toilet at all, for anyone, so accessible toilet facilities are not an issue!! Would happily return on subsequent days.
R. M.
Specialty coffee in the heart of Oxford. Happy baristas & great coffee. 4 ⭐️ as my personal preference runs towards a full bodied blend for a flat white.
M. W.
Now that Turl St Kitchen next door is no more, there aren't many coffee shops in this part of town...so it's a relief that this one passes muster! Decent coffee, very tasty-looking dishes and a reasonably large outside bench seating area out front.
F. Q.
Smooth, rich, not bitter, but strong flat white with the cutest art. Staff also very cute and helpful.
M. K.
Staff is friendly, but coffee without flavour. Cinnamon bun was good.
No toilets.
C. G.
Beautiful Coffee Shop in the heart of Oxford. Skilled Baristas and exceptional coffee.
Would recommend if you're in Oxford and looking for specialty coffee with a mellow vibe
A. S.
We did not get anything, but, despite the shop was going to close, a girl there helped us with a bowl of fresh water with my dog. These are small gestures, but tell a lot about a place.
W. K.
A fantastic little place, superb coffee and friendly staff. A must if you like coffee.
A. A.
best iced mocha I have ever had! good quality coffee used!
J. M.
Excellent coffee and nice cakes. A bit too busy for my liking - but luckily they have a couple of other cafes for me to visit
L. T.
Stopped by here on a bike ride through Oxford. Coffee was good, the espresso had lots of flavour and was good quality. I even helped myself to a tasty pastry, which went down very well!
J. B.
Exellent coffee, exellent food, exellent staff. My favourite place to get coffee in Oxford!
C. K.
Great little cafe near the covered market, central Oxford. Dog and people friendly, fun staff and the best hot chocolate!! So thick you can eat it with a spoon! :-)
M. B.
Turl street staple. Great coffee, great cakes, great choice of beans and fantastic staff.
E. L.
Cosy place that serves a really good flat white. Friendly staff that gave me a free coffee when they forgot about my order!
Downsides - no loo (eduroam works!)
J. V.
Simply great coffee- one of the best in England 💚
I went yesterday and it was busy. Yes I had to wait, but barista clearly was knowledgeable and knows that speciality coffee is a very subtle product and needs care.
Despite busy times she did not sacrifice QUALITY of the single cup (she could speed up and the coffee would be ruined).
Nowadays people need to learn how to slow down and enjoy the things which are clearly worth every minute of waiting time.
The aroma and taste were astonishing. I will add this company to the list of my favourite coffee placed and definitely will return.
J. A.
This place was rammed when I went in for a filter batch brew. But the coffee was amazing. They also had a salted caramel chocolate brownie for tasting which was great if a little rich.
L. S.
Amazing coffee, delicious food and warm and welcoming staff and atmosphere! My go-to coffee in Oxford
A. N.
Really great americano but always a lineup (a good sign but not the greatest experience). Service is exceptionally slow even after ordering and the spot is usually pretty packed( the coffee is on par with the best options within walking distance.
R. H.
Fantastic coffee and the iced frappes are great on a sunny Oxford morning
S. B.
Lovely location in a typical Oxford steet that is out of the way of the main hustle and bustle.
Tucked neatly in a row of shops selling second hand books and whisky, this coffee shop has a cosy artisan feel. With many people on laptops, reading or writing.
I had a long black and it was ok. Needed more crema but still good.
H. N.
Great price. I had an espresso and was presently surprised with the sophisticated flavor profile of their bean!
M. P.
Excellent service from the friendly team this morning. Coffee with a smile, thank you once again.
M. H.
Typical hipster place, but the service is sloooow. Bit bored of hearing “I’ll be with you in just a moment.” Otherwise a good option.
M. K.
Good speciality coffee, nicely served. Cake that we tried was not the freshest.
R. H.
A genuinely outstanding cup of coffee. Really. You wouldn’t think I could tell any more. But it is.
A. H.
Best latte that I've ever had. It was a lovely occasional treat throughout my degree to pop in here. Also you cannot really fault the prices- a takeout bagel and a coffee for around a fiver is excellent by Oxford's standards.
It is difficult to get a seat here and the service can be pretty slow, but if you're not in a rush or looking to sit around a table with multiple friends then I most definitely recommend.
T. W.
Amazing coffee! These guys roast their own coffee and I must say they do a great job. The coffee has a lovely natural sweet cherry flavour to it. Really friendly knowledgeable staff too. Best thing about this place is they sell whole beans straight from the barrel so next time I'll be brining my coffee jar for a zero waste refill
D. M.

Decent coffee shop, it's recently been refurbished so there is more seating. Coffee is good but not great, cakes, cookies, and other snacks are very good. It does get very busy as it's right in the middle of the university quarter so you get a lot of laptop hogs, and people who read all day. Not sure if there is a toilet or not but it is not that cold friendly due to the restricted space between tables. They have an outlet/pop up shop at the natural history museum too. Personally the columbian coffee roasters shop in the covered market is the best.
S. W.
Best coffee in Oxford. Easily, for years.
H.
I enjoyed my recent trip to The Missing Bean. I had an iced latte which had a delicious and rich flavour. I also had a piece of the chocolate praline cake - the flavour was amazing but sadly I think it had been on the shelf a little too long and was rather dry. Busy and hot but service is friendly. Bear in mind that there isn't a loo for customers!
J. T.
Stopped off here for a quick bite to eat and a little rest.
Between us we ordered some apple juice, which was freshly squeezed and very nice. I had a smoothie which was very refreshing.
I also had an open sandwich and it was delicious. Overall it didn't come to that much, so well priced also.
The only thing that brings this down from 5 star in my eyes is that although this place is kinda cool, kinda trendy and vegan friendly. My smoothie came in a plastic cup with a plastic straw and had I known this I would definately not have ordered it.
C. H.
This cafe is popular with academic types which makes service rather slow around lunchtime. Cake selection not great either.
Y. D.
Very good coffee, but not really consistent, on different weeks coffee tastes different. Their bites section is quite good, but is a bit empty towards the end of the day. It's always very busy. But the service is slow. There are quite a few tables there, all usually occupied plus 3-4 people waiting in front for their take out coffee, so the place feels like a barrel of herrings, very cramped.
H. a. r. r. y.
The coffee blend is pretty nice, tastes a little of brown sugar (unsweetened). I tried a salmon bagel - perhaps a little too much cream cheese for me, but the salmon was excellent. There's not a lot of space inside, so I'd not recommend eating in. Overall, though, a great place for a quick brunch.
K. P.
The Missing Bean must be one of the best coffee shops in the world. I love coming here for a coffee and a bagel! Lovely staff and great atmosphere.
T. C.
Great coffee, flat whites not too milky. Roasted in Oxford every week (or 2 weeks I forget), ground in the cafe. They also sell beans and will grind them to your spec. I've only tried the croissant's but they've been ideal, crispy and warm
D. F.
How can this place be so popular? It's cramped, its seats are small and hard (if you can get a seat that is) and it doesn't have toilets. But for some reason, it just makes me feel so GOOD! And I don't think it's the caffeine. This is my favourite coffee shop, ever.
C. H. (.
Wow, that espresso was amazing, a full head and shoulders above anything I've had in any generic chain coffee shop. The beans they use here are from their Oxford roastry and the quality really comes through. My partner had a mocha and said it was the first coffee they had ever actually enjoyed.
Beyond the amazing coffee, this is one of the first cafés I have been to that has oat milk, as well as cow milk, soya, almond, etc. They also sell their own beans (various blends and varieties), and will grind them to your requested grind and then reseal in a proper coffee bag. Overall, can't think of a single improvement.
A. M. U.
Great coffee, even better affogato
E. D.
Fine fresh coffee, tasty pastries and friendly, efficient service.
Minimalist decor, good natural light and fair prices; comfortable spot for short visit.
We need more independent coffee shops like this 👍😎
T. W. R.
It is somewhere I would go daily so definitely worth a visit. Excellent coffee and ITALIAN hot chocolate. Cakes are also amazing - even with the gluten-free one. So definitely tried out their chocolate GF cake.
K. M.
Delicious. Nice, simple way to start the day in Oxford.
B. M.
Great little find in Oxford off the beaten track. Very friendly staff. Coffee was a good price and smoothy was eagerly accepted and drank. Comes complete with eccentric Oxford characters (such as the chap wearing two pairs of glasses simultaneously carrying his lecture notes). No toilet in situ though which was a pain and had to head to the Covered Market loo.
V. S.
Excellent coffee. Great pastries.
J. N.
Came here based on the positive reviews during a day trip to Oxford. Lovely hummingbird cake and tahini blondie. Great coffee - very fresh. Good chai according to the bf (though still just from powder). Nice staff too. Recommended!
C. N.
Needs access to a toilet but Tue coffee is peng.
Z. K.
Wonderful cortado and amazing blueberry and banana shake. I also tried their croissant and it was very flaky and delicious, and their salmon bagel sandwich was good too. Def worth checking out while on your walking tour of Oxford.
C.
Nice professional cafe. Does get very busy so getting a seat may be difficult. Of course this does depend on term time etc. The menu choices are good and the prices are reasonable. The taste does not disappoint. Worth a visit.
B. C.
It's was good coffee. Not too crowded on a Sunday at 2.
O. L.
Great coffee! Didn't have any food, but who needs it.
B. M.
Excellent place for coffee and food! Every time I have been, their coffee has been wonderful and the few times I have had something to eat, I have been very impressed. The only negatives are that they do not have wifi, and they are busy most of the time (hard to find a seat).
M. D.
Small coffee shop, bohemian feeling place with lovely toastees. I could see myself sitting there for hours, reading and absorbing the Oxford atmosphere. Liked their self roasted coffee
B. S.
Great place for coffee. Usually have a different filter coffee each week or so. Provide oat, soya, coconut, etc as alternative milks. Decaf option also available. Would certainly reccomend their dirty chai latte.
K. M.
Fantastic service, a great selection of quality coffee and other drinks. The atmosphere is perfect for working or meeting up with friends. Friendly staff and and holistically good experience!
J. R.
one of the only places in Oxford that have bagels, is central and where you can get a bagel/pastry + latte for less than 5 pounds. the only issue is that it is small and therefore not good for laptop work or groups. also, the service for food is extremely slow (I waited 20 minutes for a takeaway cream cheese bagel and I was only 3rd in the queue behind 2 avocados on toast...hire a new chef!) and the "chef" was very rude/cold.
B. S.
Popular. So popular you may find it hard to find a seat. A cheeky gem on their menu is the Iced Chai Tea for £2.80. Shame the minium card payment is £5, below which you get charged 30p for using a card. Would have been a five star review if this wasn't case.
Coffee paraphernalia is sold here such as Keep Cups (made from both glass and plastic), filters etc. + you can get the real beans here too.
Background music pretty decent ...sometimes fantastic.
b. h.
Although lacking in the history of some of Oxfords other coffee houses, it does serve what is easily the best coffee available in the town coupled with freshly made and interesting cakes (earl grey with lavender - works surprisingly well!)
T. K.
According to a friend who lives nearby this place is always packed. But when I found a seat (on my second attempt) the coffee was really good, and the staff really nice. You just have to be lucky with the crowd.
m. h.
Best coffee and almond croissant I’ve had in a long time
T. G.
Good coffee, seems like lots of the students spend time around here
P. J.
Nice laid back atmosphere early in the day. people having coffee/breakfast and doing stuff - reading/on laptops/phones.
Coffee very nice, but cold have been warmer. Delicious cake.
S. C.
Great coffee and cake, and sandwiches. Excellent choice of tunes on the stereo and the lack of wifi only helps to move on your average coffee shop essayist. ;-)
T. P.
Great coffee. Always very busy
M. A.
Lovely sandwiches, cakes and coffees. Great place to people watch opposite Lincoln College. Only problem is getting a table as it's quite small.
L. E.
The place is cute and the coffee was alright. But when i orded 'Avocado on toast' I expected them to make the effort of actually serving the avocado on the toast, not an oily avocado half next to the toast.
T. T. N.
Lovely and friendly coffee shop. Coffees are well priced and taste amazing.
Visited a few times now and service are consistently good.
E. D.
Great coffee and cakes 👍
F. L.
One of the best cafe I love in Oxford. If you would like to read or do some work. Come here early in the morning. Say 8am-ish. It give you a feel of tranquility and freshness.
A. A.
Nice coffee, amazing atmosphere, quick service. It's a lovely place to work; chat with a friend or two; or just enjoy a cup of good coffee.
S. D.
First time visitor. Asked if they made "blended drinks, like frappuccinos." was told "Starbucks does that," to which I replied "Oh, so you guys don't?" and the waiter looked amused, like I was a moron for asking, then chuckled "No."
Regrettably I bought a sandwich instead but I won't be going back.
EDIT: Emailed the manager who got back with me right away. He was interested to address the matter and so I'll be trying the shop again when I'm in the area.
E. M.
Best espresso in Oxford. La Marzocco machine with decent prices. Need I say more!
K. B.
Great place, good location and lovely set up. Lots of plants (a very happy Monsterra)
T.
Best coffee shop in Oxford by far! If you like good coffee this is the place to go. Loyal customer for many years.
A. H.
Friendly service, good music, and one of the nicest lattes I've had in my life!
J. C.
I've already reviewed the Magdalen Road site but it needs to be said again and again. The Biscoffi brownie is the best.
P. C.
Nice coffee, but quite small.
Like a lot of places in Oxford they will refill water bottles, a good thing.
Conclusion: coffee.
A. C.
Cute, trendy place in center of Oxford. Coffee was very small & definitely overpriced, but good. Delicious paninis.
B. F.
Delicious coffee starting at £1.60 (and every 9th beverage free with punch cards) and great atmosphere! Also donates its leftover food to the homeless.
P. G.
Coffee was ok. Staff were very friendly.
B. D.
Great coffee, good food, nice location. My only complaint is how popular it is for its size - gets a bit loud!
p. l. h.
Great little coffee shop. The little green area outside is nice in the summer
R. S.
Cafe with good vibes on Turl st. Had a latte, it was good but the balance of coffee to milk was a little too much to the latter. Will try as espresso or macchiato next time.
S. B.
Brilliant coffee, great service, lovely atmosphere. Can't wait to come back!
A. R.
Nice, cozy place. Very good and smooth coffee. Flat white better than any others I drank.
E. S.
Delicious coffee and a nice spot. Worth looking up and heading to if in the city. Not great / no Vodafone signal inside.
J. M.
Coffee was fairly good. Very good consistency with the cappuccino. Service was very very slow. Really need to work quicker in a busy coffee shop
A. G.
Good coffee quality. Flat white it's not really flat white, more like a soup with milk. It's unacceptable that there is no toilet, and I am surprised that this is legal.
M. L. F.
Brian and the crew, I truly believe make the finest coffee in Oxford!
M. H.
Great coffee, will gladly fill your own cup of you prefer, sometimes a bit of a wait as it's popular
d. s.
Great coffee and cakes. Service was efficient and polite. Limited seating inside, coffee also available to go.
J. A.
Little cozy cafe. Dirty chai tasted good but a tad cold and the music a bit on the loud side, but that's my preference
L. S.
Very good coffee. Some of the people working should think of being a bit nicer to people tho.
D. W.
First time eating British food that tasted flavorful for the most part. Nice environment with the Thames River right outside.
D. A.
Very good coffee, decent sandwiches and friendly staff. Very busy... Prepare to share a table.
Y. Z.
Excellent coffee, nice cakes, pretty street view, a little crowdy but what can you say.
M. S.
Good small cafe! Delicious chai tea and good coffee! There are some seats along the window which are perfect for people watching!
Z. Z.
Good tasteful coffee and excellent service.
M. V.
Went for the good coffee and tasty bagel with salmon for breakfast. Service is relatively slow though and they don't have a toilet.
T.
Great coffee, easily one of the best shops in Oxford. Walk that little bit further and you'll be rewarded!
C. R.
I loved the baguel. Great place to meet and talk.
A. G.
Great coffee selection- the beans they roast are always very high quality.
J. T.
Very friendly staff with true passion for coffee. Warm welcoming and quality coffee guaranteed. Follow their cool Instragram page!
T. S.
Best Coffee in Oxford. Good vibe, friendly staff and top quality food/drink. My go to.
M. J.
Small coffee shop with typically great coffee. I only get my coffee there to go to not disturb these many first dates in this rather unfortunate venue.
R. A.
Lovely place, great hand poured coffees, really enthusiastic baristas who know their stuff.
N. L.
Lovely, relaxed, and easy to grab (to-go) good coffee under lockdown.
D. W.
Good quality coffee shop but it is popular and busy most of the time, so be prepared!
L. L.
Wow best place for coffee in town. The veggie panino is AMAZING. The cakes are also quite nice.
D. L.
Delightful coffee shop, would recommend
A. M.
Great coffee and the best brownie I’ve ever eaten. Bit hipster but that’s par for the course.
E. S.
Great coffee and delicious italian hot chocolate! The only problem is that it's a small place and always crowded...
D. P.
Serve very good coffee. Located in the centre of Oxford, only thing is the place is quite small.
M. K.
Very hipster place but coffee is good!
A. N.
Great coffee and service! Unfortunately it’s always full of people and the windows are always foggy - not very appealing.
Y. W.
Good coffee in central oxford. Pastries are meh.
E. H.
Cosy place, lots of vegan options. Can be a bit too busy.
A. T.
Best coffee in town :)
M. E.
Best Coffee I've had in England, which is about as good as your standard Aussie coffee. No Wi-Fi though.
D.
Place is small and full of people drinking cold coffee while working on laptops. Keep your expectations on getting a seat low. Get take out coffee and walk around
J. R.
Great coffee, nice place. Quite small and usually busy
L. G.
Truly excellent coffee. Average ciabatta
A. S.
Beautiful little artisanal coffee shop. Lovely coffee, great service.
C. D.
Great coffee and good cakes. The roastery's better, but this has a more central location.
M. J.
Lovely coffee and fresh avocado on toast, yum! Great service and atmosphere.
S. S.
The coffee here is great but it's a small space and gets crowded in the morning so be prepared to queue for a bit.
A. v. N.
Good coffee, small place, full of people without masks, probably a good place to catch some Covid
T. H.
The staff and coffee could not be better. My favourite cafe in Oxford, I couldn't be happier to be working next door!
C. P.
The best coffee in Oxford. It's a very small place, so can get very cramped in term time. But it's worth persevering.
Е. Я.
Great coffee, fast service, reasonable prices.
R. S. M.
The Flat white was perfect 👌🏻..

Not my fav in Oxford but not bad either

Very good coffee in rather small cafe. No toilet and no wifi
G. B.
Great Latte. The shop has a great atmosphere. Yet if you go at the wrong time, it can be crowded.

A place with its own roastery. If you are after great coffe MB is a certainty.

Expensive YES. But worth it, it is one of the best coffee spots in this town.

(Translated) It's a cafe with a lot of customers. The seats are always full or there is only one. The salmon bagel went well and it was delicious. I especially liked the savory bread with sesame seeds. I ordered a bagel in one large flat white, 6.9 pounds. The price was also very satisfactory. It is a small café, so there is no other meal menu other than focaccia with bagels and cheese. It would be perfect if there was only a toilet, but it's a bit disappointing.

(Translated) It is a shabby place where mostly young people hang out. Their coffee is good, but I wouldn't recommend americano. Their desserts are great. Their sandwiches are also delicious.

Çoğunlukla gençlerin takıldığı salaş bir mekan. Kahveleri güzel ancak americanolarını tavsiye etmem. Tatlıları harika. Sandwichleri de lezzetli.

(Translated) We ended up in this little cafe almost by chance. Touring Oxford, wanting to stop for a drink, I look at Yelp for coffee and ... right next door!
Upon entering the first feeling it gives is the typical "hipsters cafes" ... a lot of MacBook, iPhone and posturing: D But the coffee looked good, so there we stayed.
I ordered coffee with ice, quite tasty, but it's all I tried. Therefore, I can not talk much more about the quality of coffee or food, but yes, everything looked pretty good. And for what he put on the different posters, and the "coffee" pots that were on the shelves, he looked like a specialty coffee place.
The price was right for the site (let's not forget that we are in England), and the dependents quite nice.
I think there is nothing better to finish a review than say that I would return, so you can deduce that I left the site happy;)

(Translated) The best coffee in Oxford. The dirty chai is delicious. Good options for breakfast and snack and for a quick lunch. Cozy place although sometimes it can be bustling. Very popular.
