Reviews of Society Café
D. V.
Lovely customer service with nice chatty staff who makes you feel very welcome! They allowed me to try both of the batch brews which were lovely and the options of pastries where great as well. The outside seating is nice and having some seats downstairs is great as well.
Having some savoury pastries will make it even better and also the downstairs felt quite dark so having a bit brighter light could bring up the environment as well. The barefoot cake slice was quite small compared to if you go to the barefoot cafe so having that bigger will be great. It did feel a bit dry so was not sure if it was fresh.
Loving the card system and having two options for batch brew, v60 and espresso was great!! Customer service and the music inside was great as well :)

I was on a short day trip to Oxford and I was pleased to find shelter from the winter cold in here! Bonus points because they are dog friendly. Loved their selection of coffees and hot chocolate and even got to try their yummy lemon cake. Would also highly recommend to anyone who wants to read while enjoying coffee as they have a quiet space downstairs with lounge chairs.
I. K.
Great place to work, although it can get pretty busy by about 10:00 (don’t forget about downstairs seating).
There is a really nice atmosphere and super friendly and quick service.
The food and drink selection and quality is really great- I personally recommend the carrot cake that has a slight hint of ginger and perfect sponge to icing ratio.
It is a bit pricey and not the best for families but otherwise a perfect cafe!
A.
Well made flat white even though the queue was very long but they managed to do good coffee. It was busy inside so I took my coffee to take away. I did not try their home made dessert but it looks worthy.

The barista advised me to take matcha with almond milk - it was a great choice. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I'm happy I've chosen this cafe to have morning coffee during my stop in Oxford.
A. N.
We came for coffee and cake - nice selection of cakes and good coffee. Milk pouring to perfection! Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
T. D.
Came in for a coffee, and got a full experience. Cannot believe I’m paying £1 more than a Costa Americano and getting a beautiful Rwandan single origin, well presented with a tasting card. 5x the experience for 1.33x the cost.

In an easy to miss street, adjacent to the busier Cornmarket St and George St, you'll find the Society. You'll be greeted by very friendly people and able to try tasty treats and a wide selection of coffee based beverages. I tried their batch brew with a slice of chocolate cake and did not regret it.
Z. D.
Best coffee in Oxford! For espresso coffees they have a House and a Guest coffee, with tasting notes to help you decide. I usually go for a flat white and they all taste delicious - a great balance of flavour. Also they have quite a large seating area inside and out, so great for takeaway or “dine-in”.
R. G.
Really nice cafe just off Cornmarket. Staff were friendly and there is a wide choice of espresso based drinks or filter coffee. They also sell proper dark chocolate.
R. V.
Really good coffee, but the cake/pastry is a bit of a let down. Also downstairs smells like the toilet. If you sit outside and just order coffee it’s a 5/5
L. L.
Such a buzzin’ and lively place! I enjoyed the vibe, the decor, the friendly and helpful staff and of course, the great coffee from Origin Coffee Roasters! I will definitely come back! Thank you!
刘.
Relaxed atmosphere. Mocha was fine and cakes were delicious, especially the white chocolate and raspberry cake.
V. S.
Good, though not great. Have a nice variety of coffee and related drinks, also offer nice options of cakes. The coffee itself was of a good quality but felt a bit too dry and too roasted. Cakes we tried were solid ones, however I can't say they were a something special. Staff was friendly and welcome, as well as the entire atmosphere.
F. K.
Top-shelf coffee with many varietals and brewing options including V60 pour-overs. Cozy student-filled establishment with nice ambient lighting, additional seating downstairs. Smattering of fresh pastries and milk options. A+
I. B.
Brilliant place to work and get away from the student throng. Particularly love the cold brew coffee. Not the most amazing sweet treats but a lovely drink selection and great atmosphere. Really nice place to go in Oxford and could not be done better is . outdoor seating is very nice and located in the middle on a cobbled road. Really very lovely place.
A. B.
Lovely spot to sit out in the sunshine on a nice day - great selection of teas and coffees
R. F.
Nice café with clean, industrial style. Lovely staff. Coffee was really delicious, one of the best I've tried so far.
C. G.
Enjoyed the service, tea and cakes. Carrot cake was vegan and tasted amazing. Tea is a lovely brew with big tea leaves and great light colour. Friendly team and interesting crowd. The outside of the building is a bit sterile but the space inside is spot on.
O. A.
Coffee is OK but the view if you set outdoor is very nice
M. O.
Great coffee, nice staff, reasonable prices. Flushing of toilets was not strong enough to flush everything in the bowl. I suggest to check it or replace it.
T. W.
Great ambience, friendly faces, beautiful and delicious latte!
S.
It's off the main roads, tucked in a quiet street, the crowd here created a very friendly vibe, and the staff members are amazing. They've got oat milk as milk substitutes, which (almost) always make coffee great and smooth. The downstairs seating is a quiet place to do some work if the ground floor is a bit noisy to concentrate.
B. F.
Good iced coffee and loose leaf teas, good atmosphere.

I was visiting Oxford for the day and found this coffee shop after reading reviews online. I was certainly glad I came across it. It’s a lovely little shop up a side street and is quite spacious inside with additional seating downstairs.
I ordered a simple Latte, some Banana bread, and a random energy ball they had by the counter. The coffee was fantastic first of all, but the Banana bread was also excellent. Just moist and sweet enough that banana should be. I wasn’t blown away by the energy ball but that was personal taste. I’ve knocked a star off for the toilets, as these could do with a simple renovation. They were not pleasant
F. F. (.
Pleasant terrace in the middle of the street to have your V60 brew
J. A.
A nice little independent. Coffee shop located in the heart of Oxford. I brought a v60 and banana bread for around £6.60. Which is very similar to the prices in london, both items tasted great. The atmosphere is nice, the staff seemed friendly. With very fast free WiFi so great for work or travelers.
M. P.
Great atmosphere to work, but the food was pretty pricey. The wifi was not the best in the basement, but the overall experience was pleasant.

My fav coffee shop in Oxford for the following reasons:
1. Service in impeccable! Staff is so friendly, always smiling and have created such a welcoming vibe to the place. Makes all the difference!
2. Coffee is on point with the taste, texture, and temperature.
3. Plenty of seating space inside and out.
4. Cakes and small bites are also quite good and freshly made.
5. Did I mention positive vibes ?
Y. M. N. A.
Honestly one of the best spots in Oxford, it's cozy people are super friendly, place is vibey and coffee is amazing
T. L.
The coffee and wide tea selection here is some of the best in Oxford. It's also some of the lowest priced. This is a great place to work from with good tables and charging points. The staff are really great and friendly without any snobbery and look like they want to be there. Its also off the highstreet which means it never gets properly rammed. The only way it could be better is if the cake was free.
R. “. J. P.
Excellent cakes, coffee and tea served in a friendly informal environment. Just don't expect anything traditional Oxford about it.
V. D.
Such a lovely place to drink coffee first thing in the morning! The staff was friendly as well! I love my latte ❤️
T. S.
Nice spot. Friendly staff. Good espresso, little burnt. Better v60 and batch brews. Nice all rounder.
K. P.
Very good coffee; I had the Aeropress. Loads of cakes and juice available too. It is a good place to work for a short while too. Restrooms are available in the cafe.
I. B.
Fantastic coffee options, nice vibes, and pleasant staff
J. V.
Amazing coffee and even more tasting salted caramel chocolate brownies and caramel shortbreads
L. A.
Longing for a decent coffee after getting off the train from London. Checked the review and decided to pick a coffee here without hesitation.
Love the ambience and the friend staff. Coffee is good too.
A. N.
Fantastic Café that always seems hopping! A really good Americano and a lively vibe. Street seating is great (weather permitting of course,) but the stars here are the beans and staff. Can’t complain about either!
A. S.
Smiley and please t staff make this place such a great find in Oxford!
The coffee is delicious and the seating is plentiful. The norwegian style decor is very sunny and uplifting and is a great backdrop for your first (or second or third or fourth) coffee of the day.
M. B.
Very good coffee, great gluten free brownie and friendly staff.
Great vibe, looks like a common place for students to work.
Can be quite busy.
T. B.
As always, the espresso has been amazing, fruity, refreshing. Just one note: please brew espresso as the last thing when preparing another coffee for the same order. An espresso gets cold very quickly while waiting for a latte, etc.
A. C.
Fabulous - best coffee in Oxford try the batch brew
N. B.
Great cafe in Oxford, love the little Society newspapers on the side and baristas are all lovely and friendly!
Y. J.
Such a lovely outdoor seating for covid friendly. Lovely croissants and coffee!
G. B.
Excellent coffee, good pastries, strong wifi. Nice space
Y. P.
Lovely café with great minimalistic design! You can feel how much effort the staff has put in to create a space like this. Definitely recommend the Sweet Orange Tea :)
b. d.
Excellent coffee including aeropress and V60 options. The spiced apple muffin was delicious too. Stylish interior. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.
M. R.
Had a latte here for the first time and it was a great experience overall. Super welcoming and friendly staff, wonderful coffee and great atmosphere!
M. K.
Great speciality coffee. Good service. Cosy place. Sweet roles and cake that I tried could be better.
S. H.
I often use this cafe when I am in Oxford - unfortunately the grotty toilets let it down
A. S.
Nice atmosphere and design. Great coffee - V60 pour over.
J. D.
Really nice independently run cafe just off Cornmarket — no unkind words for this place! The cakes are good and the outdoor seating is a plus, although make sure to get there early— it’s popular!
E. M.
Favourite spot to sit down and have a relaxed coffee. Quiet street means you can have a chilled sit down but stay right in the centre of the high street. Hot chocolates are epic, just a great vibe about the place!
J. W.
Really nice coffee, really nice atmosphere and really friendly staff! Can get a little busy because of its popularity, so I’d recommend take away
M. A. R.
This continues to be the best coffee shop in Oxford. Throughout the lockdowns they've found so many ways to make things accessible and safe and continue to offer delicious drinks. Don't miss the Cascara iced tea, a new addition that I hope will stay for a long time!
R.
A friendly and warm welcome to Oxford, with a white hot chocolate I'd come to the town for alone.
S. R.
Their batch brew is great and cheap and they have nice seating and good baked goods.
S. S.
Awsome coffee! Nice and full of flavor, good prices and cool baristas.
D. F.
One of our favourite cafes in Oxford, but probably the best. Fantastic vegan options and terrific coffee. They obviously choose their staff carefully too - always very courteous, attentive and clearly love their job.
C. Y.
Staff are super friendly and considerate! Enjoy my quite writing time over a cuppa in the corner
L. A.
The staff seems either tired or unhappy about something and that translate into the overall service provided. Rushed, a bit unwelcoming, like they're not happy with you being there. On the other hand, the coffee is good, the place is clean and they're great at enforcing the social distancing rules.
Y.
Excellent pourovers and espresso-based coffee. I particularly appreciate the availability of both House and Guest coffee (which change every few weeks) for both brewing methods, as I really like trying different types of coffee! Great seating place with friendly staff as well!
J.
Great quality coffee and (usually) great service. However, I would not recommend it as a place to work as the seats are not comfortable enough to sit for a long period, and because the WiFi hardly ever works. Also, they occasionally hand out leaflets asking people not to work for long periods unless they keep buying coffees. A lovely place for visits of less than 40 minutes.
A. P.
Great friendly and atmospheric place to have a great tasting coffee.
C. D.
Quite possibly the best cappuccino I had in all of Oxford. Truly fantastic coffee with a barista who knew what he was doing and delivered. Tables are bolted and seats modern and a little hard, but music was great and the quality of the coffee could make me forgive anything.
V. B.
Very good coffee and cakes, and nice friendly/helpful staff. It's a popular place and you can see why.
C. G.
Best cafe in Oxford. Try the capuchinno and the peanut brownie
J. J. S.
Excellent coffee, with good selection of beans from multiple roasters and a great guest espresso.
Super friendly baristas that are really passionate about their coffee
G. C.
Very cool cafe. Lovely to sit around in if you visit Oxford, good energy all around, with awesome coffee served by great employees. They publish their own zine and newspaper which I greatly admire and are lovely to flip through when killing time and genuinely interesting. I would definitely patron if visiting Bath or Bristol as they also have cafés there as well.
J. H.
Don't have the most comfortable chairs ngl, but a cute cafe with excellent coffee
T. P.
Waited at least 10 minutes for our coffee which was expensive. It was very thin, and went cold quick. Shall not be going back.
M.
Thank you to the lovely barista who made my coffee speedily so I could catch my bus. I'm on the bus now and the coffee is delicious!
X. W.
Lovely little modern arty coffee shop with top quality beans, good espresso and an array of simple but well made pastries and sandwiches. My flat white was spot on. There's several different types of seating so it's suitable for groups, couples and people that just want to nurse a coffee and stare at a laptop. Big windows mean lots of natural light, and there are some thought-provoking works of art on the walls.
G. K.
Excellent coffee, great place to take your reading material and waste an hour.
A. D.
Am here every day and it is without a doubt the best place in Oxford for coffee. Batch is always on point, new guest bean every week, never been disappointed with the quality. And lastly the staff, killing it, day in day out, great team
H. S.
The have a delicious selection of specialty coffee and hot chocolate on offer, and their staff are always really friendly and happy to chat about their products. They also have a very good amount of space at the moment.
K. P.
Love it!
N. K.
Great and friendly customer service....tempting pastries on offer. Stuck with the house coffee speciality and was the best coffee I had outside of Italy.
D. D.
The brutalist interior and ubiquitous hanging bike may give the impression that this is a typical ‘me too’ artisan coffee shop. However, don’t be deceived. Cafe society is a serious destination for good coffee. The team are knowledgeable, skilled and friendly. I also found the cakes to be as high quality as the beverages.
E. T.
Great coffee. Friendly staff. Very clean and socially distanced tables set up. Industrial style so a bit echoey/noisy when busy and stools are sharp edged and hard so not comfy or I’d have stayed longer.
C. C.
Easily one of my favourite cafés in Oxford. The team that work there are excellent. The coffees are also wonderful as well as the food, and the atmosphere (pre-COVID), was always fantastic.
P. D.
Friendly staff and great coffee.
B. J.
Personally: best Caffe in Oxford
B. J. H.
Great coffee and a cute and clean look combine to make a lovely space to work and be in. The selection of coffee and cakes here is beautiful and the staff are always lovely. They have a nice selection of lone and group seating and tastefully selected magazines and books to read.
M. K.
Excellent coffee, smooth flat whites and lattes. Also a gourmet selection of drip with detailed (and accurate) descriptions of what flavour to expect.
Stable wifi, and enough plugs to keep your devices powered as you power yourself up with coffee.
I. C.
Coffee is very good. Cafe is popular, so it is a bit crowded. There are some people working with laptop, but it is little bit distracted atmosphere. Staffs are all kind and energetic. highly recommend.
H. B.
Came here to do some studying. Great vibes with lovely staff, coffee and freshly made pastries :) will come again !
D. C.
Coffee is really great. Espresso and pour over both delicious. The space is really good for working and/or meeting a friend. I've seen quite a few interviews take place bere too. BUT. Every time i order a pour over (well over 15 times) they sigh and say its gonna take 10 minutes, and have even asked me to order something else as they are busy! DONT offer it you ARENT prepared to serve it. Overall a great spot but cant give 5 stars beacuse of that.
L. a. L. J.
The coffee is affordable (£2-3) even for the fancy manual brews, with tasting notes on a board. The service was very fast and professional, and the coffee was perfect. There is lots of space to sit with extra seats downstairs and the wifi password on a back-lot board.
Seems like a bit of a departure from the usual independent Oxford coffee shops. The staff wear uniforms and don't really engage you in chit-chat, and instead of second hand furniture and exposed brick we get sleek modernist tables, tall bar chairs, high ceilings and geometric patterns. It isn't as cosy as other places, and doesn't exactly feel friendly, but it definitely has its own sense of style. A good, relaxed but professional place to meet someone or to get work done, maybe?
I feel like, regardless of anything else, an independent coffee shop with good service that serves a wide range of good, reasonably priced coffee and has lots of places to sit deserves five stars.
M. F.
Great cafe with great coffee. The staff are amazingly friendly and always welcoming, and thank you when you leave too! A good range of speciality coffees too. The chocolate salted caramel brownie is amazeballs, but you will get addicted
N. S.
Good coffee but slow service
M. R.
Wow. Great coffee and a really tasty flapjack.
G. P.
The environment is a bit austere and industrial but the service is warm and consistent.
The place gets busy with the laptop crowd in the late morning and so finding a table can be a challenge (you can try your luck downstairs but it can feel a bit dungeon-y). They do great coffee, have a wide range of teas and even offer tempting treats to kill that sugar craving. There is Wi-Fi and you're in central Oxford whilst still being save from most the tourist crowd.
A. C. C.
Really nice cappuccino. Good cake selection.
M. S. W.
Very good coffee. An excellent place to work or meet colleagues and friends. The coffee selection is great and the hot chocolates are also very rich-tasting. Nice atmosphere and music
E. H.
Best place for coffee in Oxford. The interior is Scandinavian minimalist and the place is invested with people working on their Apple Macbooks. Staff is always really friendly. Prices are about what you would expect for a place like this.
It's the kind of place that let's you choose between batch, V60 or Aeropress coffee - and different single source beans. Pretentious, but not in a bad way.
n. r. b.
Excellent coffee and cakes, friendly staff. Usually not too busy, and plenty of space to sit (there's an extra seating area downstairs). They also stock bonsoy soy milk (which my mother prefers to alpro) and sell it by the carton - I haven't seen it for sale anywhere else yet (except amazon in bulk).
A. L.
Always a great, friendly service from the staff. Good coffee, brought to your table. Lovely place to relax with a book or paper on a Sunday morning.
W. P.
First time having a chai Latte. The service was polite and kind they did not make a fuss of the guide dogs. The time when my partner and I was around 10, it was.very quite so if that is your atmosphere I would suggest to go there.
C. D.
Lovely friendly staff, atmosphere and coffee. Very unique. Would definitely recommend
J. A.
Great coffee and banana cake, very reasonable prices. Immeasurably better than your milky bog-standard coffees served in the huge fish bowls at Starbucks and Costa.
J. C.
Love the flat white, rich and aroma💓
